BBC Europe News
The price of eating out in France should be set to fall as a government tax cut comes into effect.

Value-added tax (VAT) has been reduced from 19.6% to 5.5%, in an attempt to increase consumer spending and create thousands of jobs.

Hope this reduces the cost of food at DLP by 12%:goodvibes

Wowser, puts the UK 2.5% cut to shame, if even half of this is passed on to the consumer it will make a noticable difference - well done French government, hope it has the positive affect you are hoping for me, and reduces the cost of our Holiday in May!

Is it on everything or just food? Reason I ask is beacuse the BBC report seems to target the catering industry specifically.

When does this start??? We've bought just your basic halfboard vouchers as we've decided on mainly buffets - if the prices come down enough we can use them face value in the posh restaurants LOL!

Edit :Just checked this out - it states that they are not obliged to actually implement the cuts...so guess what I am thinking?!

WHAT? How can they justify that?? That's just plain ridiculous!

My brother and I are dual nationals of England and Ireland, while I choose to live in the South East for the weather, my brother chooses to live in Thailand. HE thinks the UK is now a rip off - he'll have a heart attack if he read your post!

i know its crazy granted it did only go up by half a percent but still when every other country are cutting vat it just seems so rediculous to have it so high.

i am hoping we see lower prices in dlp soon it may be the only place i save any money lol

 I feel for you here - we all go on about how expensive our trips are for food and stuff and reason it with "but it's Disney" but in your case it's everyday living. That's just WRONG! WDW saves me a bundle (I'm already putting $ on my card) and I love going there. The initial outlay or course is slightly higher (notice slightly lol) but when I am there it's caution to the wind. I hope that your trip feels like that when you go to DLP :thumbsup2

You wont get 12% off the food prices just 12% off the vat price. So if a meal cost 30 euros before, it should now cost 26.46 euros (ish)

Hope its still in place in November when we go so we can save a few bob for extra pressies lol

Any saving is good:thumbsup2 & in the UK its not a true 2.5% cut as everyone thinks its 2.13% does it show I used to work in retail:rotfl2:
