Having a bad week 'dis-ers' and need some reassurance!

We leave on the 19th July, travelling from Germany to Liege (thanks to cap'njack for the hotel info there!) and then on to Disneyland on the 20th for 4 nights/5 days at the DCR.

Problem 1 - DS's passport is not back yet  It was sent off mid May, but when I rang the British Consulate in Dusseldorf yesterday, they said they had only received it on June 18th :scared1:. Apparently it is being processed right now and *should* be here in time for our trip. But what do we do if it doesn't arrive? The 'smarty pants' in our regimental welfare office suggested that we just go anyways as 'nobody every does border checks between here and France'. What a load of tripe, and what awful 'advice'!! I would NEVER do that.

Problem 2 - I work with kids, and last week completely put my back out. I have been on diazepam, co-codamol and Ibuprofen but none of these have eased the pain or helped me actually stand up straight. I am terrified that I won't be physically able to go on any rides or even be able to walk around the parks...as it is I can barely hobble to fetch my son from the bus stop at the top of our road :sad1::sad1:

Could anyone offer my any advice (or sympathy) please.

I have done that journey though Germany, through Belgium and through France at least 20 times and not once have I ever been stopped at any boarder...if you look at them as you drive past they are all derelict.

I'd say that you'd be 100% fine on not having a passport for him and travelling by car through that part of Europe.

As for your back I feel reall bad for you  the only one thing that I can say is that you have quite a while before your trip to get better and if things aren't 100% when you are at DLRP then just take things a bit more gently...check out some of the hidden parts of the parks and possibly (depending on how bad you are) look at heading back to the Hotel for rests and using the bus to the hotel...maybe even renting a wheelchair.

Fingers crossed that you feel better soon

Oh no! I can't help on the passport front but hope it turns up soon!

Re your back, any chance of getting yourself to something like a chiropractor or osteopath - I'm sure they have them over there. They can work wonders with backs - I put mine out twice (lifting my two girls as babies!) and a chiro really did help - one time I could barely walk!

I fully sympathize with you here! Every single one of my party apart form me has had something happen to them in the last few days, including asthma setbacks and car crashes! The latter has produced whiplash and DSM can't get to work as she's already disabled and needs a speacially adapted car!

So lets all band together :thumbsup2 We WILL have a good time!!

Thanks all for your replies, it means a lot.
I went back to the docs on Wednesday and was given some different drugs which have really helped with the pain, turning it from sheer agony to a bearable niggle. My German friend is trying to locate a reputable Osteopath or Chiropracter in the local area for me, I am determined to be fighting fit for this trip, although I may miss out Inidiana Jones as if I remember rightly from our previous trip, it was a bit bumpy and jolty!
Sadly, ds is 5, going on 6 so no pushchair for him...otherwise I could use it as a kind of zimmer frame if my back does go again! Mind, saying that I am sure the little tike would be pushed around given the choice ;)
Just waiting for that passport still.........tum te tum te tum....

re your back.
i had a slipped disk when i went to wdw last year. but it didnt stop me going on any of the rides even the big ones at the other resorts.
i have since had the op but still not right but still intend to go on all the rides at dlp
to be honest only 4 rides at dlp are worth being careful on with backs, space mountain, rock and roll , tower of terror and indy.
a tip
i find that if you relax yourself and do not tense your back muscles it will be less painful .
I am not a doctor so please ask your own doctor for advice.
mine said try it. so i did and never looked back

I'm pleased to report that my son's passport arrived this morning, phew! And, although I have occasional twinges, the drugs have really helped my back pain, thank goodness. I have enough to tide me through the holiday should I need them so hopefully it wont limit anything we do.

We managed to book Cafe Mickeys for our first night, we have a new sat nav due to the fact that someone walking past our car decided to help themselves to our other one (grrrr!), we have spending money and we're set to go I think. Just need a few more bits in the way of snacks etc to take along with us, and of course some sunshine....here in Germany we're drowning in rain again!
