Woo hoo!
How have you welcomed the day?

I'm been up since 4 to watch the sunrise (or I should say dawn, as it is overcast)!

Sick (flu/sinuses/ear infection, etc, groan) so won't be joining the crowds on Signal Hill to be the first in Canada to welcome the new day.
(instead I'm welcoming it w/ a pot of homemade chicken soup... that I planned to make later, but started it at 4am...)

Rabbit! (for any of you that might have Wesleyville NL roots or otherwise mark the 1st day of each month that way! -- if any of my cousins are dissing: Gotcha!)

H A P P Y C A N A D A D A Y ! ! ! !

Not only are we celebrating Canada Day but my dh and I got married today 5 years ago. So far every year since that has been as beautiful as the day we married.

I found this online yesterday. If you are a true Canadian than you'll understand EVERYTHING is true.... and funny

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWQf13B8epw

here are the lyrics if you miss them in the song

CANADIAN SING-A-LONG!

Yeah I know that you wanna be Canadian, please
Even if in winter things tend to freeze
We've got the world monopoly on trees
And our country's bordered by three different seas

Yeah I know that you wanna be Canadian, please
We invented the zipper, we've got expertise
We made insulin to combat disease
Yeah I know that you wanna be Canadian, please

CHORUS
Brits have got the monarchy
The US has the money
But I know that you wanna be Canadian

The French have got the wine and cheese
Koalas chill with the Aussies
But I know that you wanna be Canadian

Et si ce n'était pas assez
On a deux langues officielles:
L'anglais et le français
Ooh la la

Yeah I know that you wanna be Canadian, please
Where else do you find mounted police
Or go to the hospital and not pay fees
Yeah I know that you wanna be Canadian, please

And when freshwater is in high demand
We've got the world's largest supply on hand
So you know that we could make a pretty good friend
But it's even better if you can be...

CHORUS

So you're thinking to yourself,
"How do I live in this beautiful country?"
Well we've got some steps for you to follow...

STEP 1: Lose the gun
STEP 2: Buy a canoe
STEP 3: Live multiculturally
STEP 4: You're ready, there is no more!

We got beavers, caribou and moose
We got buffalos, bears, and Canadian goose
And we're sorry about Celine Dion
But she did do that good song for James Cameron...

CHORUS
Brits have got the monarchy
The US has the money
But I know that you wanna be Canadian

The French have got the wine and cheese
Koalas chill with the Aussies
But I know that you wanna be Canadian

The Greek chilled out with Socrates
Can't build a wall like the Chinese
But I know that you wanna be Canadian

In Kenya they have safaris
We've missed lots of other countries
But I know that you wanna be Canadian

Happy Canada Day! I have to work this evening but am rushing to join my DH & DD to see the fireworks afterward. And during the day today we are taking our DD to her first movie at a theatre.

HAPPY CANADA DAY

I could celebrate a lot better if we get a little bit of sun today. This is the second week of rain and drizzle and oh yeah, let's not forget the fog.
BBQ picnic later and fireworks.

no fireworks for us this year in Toronto - at least not at Ashbridges Bay or anything else done by the city - City workers have been on strike for 2 weeks now and they are cancelled :(

Cruddy weather here so not sure what we'll do. If it clears off, we'll be at the Town's Fun Fair & Fireworks.

I am celebrating Canada Day by taking my car to the mechanics this am so he can replace my brakes and rotors to the tune of 322.00!! :sad2:

On the upside, he is working on Canada Day for me, even though his wife is not too happy. And I have brakes where previously I had not! :scared1:

God Bless my mechanic:worship::worship:Gotta love him.

Happy Canada Day everyone!

I hope you enjoy your day, whatever you do! For those that are sick, I hope you feel better soon! We too are battling this cold/flu thing, so we won`t be doing much of anything! DH said maybe we will go and watch the fireworks from the car tonight...the joys of being sick!! lol

We went strawberry-picking - came home with 20 pounds of gorgeous ripe red berries. It's been mostly cloudy but some sunshine so far today. I'm very happy to be a Canadian, I have to say.

The mention of Celine Dion in the song earlier reminded me - once I called to make a reservation for a Disney trip, and when I mentioned that I was Canadian, the person taking my reservation said, sounding very excited, "Oh, Celine Dion is going to be here at the same time you are!" Okaaay... I didn't quite know how to respond to that. We weren't going to be making ADRs together or planning to meet up in the Dumbo line, really. I finally said thats interesting, thanks.

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!

We were at the Embro Highland Games today for my DD's first ever Highland Dance competition. She didn't place but she danced great for her first time!!!!
I love listening to the bagpipes and the tug-of-war is always fun to watch!!

Hope everyone has had a great day!

I had never been so patriotic before I spent a 4th of July in Orange County California. When I saw just HOW Patriotic Americans were, I thought, why don't we ever do that in Canada? So now we get right into it!

HEY the weather has certainly BRIGHTENED up here in Ottawa. Considering it's supposed to rain all day and we haven't even had a drop.... I've even got a bit of a sunburn after taking my kids to Walter Baker Park for the festivities there. If the weather continues like this, we WILL have fireworks tonight!

Sorry to all the Torontonians,,,, that really sucks about the public service strike. When I first heard about it, I thought it was a prank. I've since seen it is Definately NOT a prank. We thought it was bad here last winter when our public transit went on strike (well, it was bad), but definately your current strike compares but in different ways. Just as nasty. Hope it all ends soon!

Here's graphic I've made for T-Shirts while in WDW.

Happy Canada Day!!!!! Anyone else cry on Canada Day because they are so patriodic? My husband thinks I'm nuts. I probably am!!!!!!!:rotfl:

"O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North, strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free !
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee."

(according to the federal gov't website that's the official version.. but nowadays we always include verses in french as well)

I ALWAYS get choked up when Oh Canada is sung, and more so when I hear our provincial anthem "Ode to Newfoundland". (Did you know most provinces don't have an official anthem? Before we joined Confederation, it was our National Anthem)

Ode to Newfoundland:

When sun rays crown thy pine-clad hills
And Summer spreads her hand
When silvern voices tune thy rills
We love thee smiling land
We love thee, we love thee,
We love thee smiling land.

When spreads thy cloak of shimm'ring white
At Winter's stern command
Thro' shortened day and starlit night
We love thee frozen land
We love thee, we love thee,
We love thee frozen land.

When blinding storm gusts fret thy shore
And wild waves lash thy strand
Thro' spindrift swirl and tempest roar
We love thee wind-swept land
We love thee, we love thee,
We love thee wind-swept land.

As loved our fathers, so we love
Where once they stood we stand
Their prayer we raise to heav'n above
God guard thee Newfoundland
God guard thee, God guard thee
God guard thee Newfoundland.
