I've been going back and forth on this one. It's only $38 to upgrade him for the whole time we're there, but DH says it's a waste because he prefers chicken nuggets, pizza, etc. Typical kid fare. He also loves fruit and ice cream, but I know at some of the TS places (Ohana in particular comes to mind), he's going to want the same kind of dessert we have. On the other hand, we have very few TS meals that are not buffets, and, as for the CS desserts, I haven't seen many adult offerings that were much better than the kids. Of course, I certainly could have missed something.

Can you share some of your dessert with him? if he likes the pizza and nuggets and stuff, i wouldn't upgrade. Will he still be hungry after eating kids meals? Then I would upgrade.

At Ohana the food is served family style so he would get the same dessert as everyone else.
If he prefers typical kid food, I wouldn't upgrade him.

The previous poster is correct - everyone eats the same food at Ohana. Same is true for buffets. Doesn't seem to be much sense in upgrading if he eats the kid food and you're doing a lot of buffets. If you're not going to many a la carte restaurants, and he wants a regular dessert, you can always buy him one and pay for it OOP. That might work out cheaper than upgrading him just to get the desserts.

Would you have to upgrade his park ticket too? Which dining plan you have is based on which park ticket you have isn't it? Not sure, but I would probably just stay with the child plan. :goodvibes

Yeah. We are going during free dining, so the extra $38 would actually be to upgrade his park ticket.

I'm thinking we'll just stick with the child's plan too. I'm a little confused about Ohana though. I read on some thread on here that the kids got just ice cream and the adults the bananas foster, and something about a "limited kids' selection" that wasn't very good. So, is that just something different for the kids IF you request it, and otherwise, they just eat the same thing as the adults?

Wow, the difference between a child and adult ticket is only $38...I haven't priced those in a while. Have fun with Free Dining...we will be there too!!! :goodvibes

We are also going during free dining we upgraded our 2yo to a 3yo we have AP's so we only needed to buy him a one day ticket match ours :thumbsup2 what a deal it saves us a ton of money.
'Ohana does offer everyone the same. We went in March with 3 kids and they all got the bananas foster they were offered ice cream instead if they didn't like the bread pudding.

Ohana offers alternatives for kids who don't like the regular food. If the kids like the food, they're welcome to eat as much of it as they want.

I'm just curious why upgrade the 2yo? They eat for free.

No, they don't eat for free....they have to share from an Adult meal....

That's why we upgraded our little man can eat. He will not share he wants his own meal :rotfl2:It's very funny. It winds up being cheaper to buy the one day ticket then it is to buy his meals. Also it helps having those extra snack credits for drinks etc...

If you were doing the BDP I'd say do it for the CS meal choices alone. But since you are going DDP I'd stay with the kids price. I think the TS resturants have a pretty good selection on the kids menus. The CS resturants are a whole other story.

My 3-year-old ate at 'Ohana with us 2 weeks ago on the Dining Plan and got the same food we did, including the desert.

So my 8yo is at the point he prefers adult offerings , it would cost me ONLY $38 to upgrade during free dining?
Thanks

Wish I knew about that last year-my neighbour's son was 9 and the kid's meals were kind of small for him.
I don't think I could do a large age increase 8 yr old or 9 yr old, but at 6 yrs do you really think he looks 10.

I'm aware of that. I just think in her situation, they may be better off getting the AP discount than paying rack rate and paying for 3 one day tickets.

I wish I would have known this last year as my then 4 yr old granddaughter did not really like the choices of kids meals on the counter service menus so she basically ended up sharing most of my meals. I called today and upgraded all 4 grand-kids so they could eat off the adult menus for counter service and table service meals and the wonderful CM went and back in and readjusted our ADR's and put all the kids at 10 yrs old.

I don't really think Disney cares about the age of the kid if you are paying to upgrade their plan. You've paid for them to have adult meals, regardless of their actual age.

This is the 3rd year we have upgraded our DD9. We don't eat at buffets, so we wanted her to have many options. She has never ate chicken strips etc. It is a lot of food, but it's worth the extra money.:lovestruc

Not if you go during Free Dining! The cost to upgrade is about $38 (the price difference in tickets).
