Just bumping this up to say Happy July to the Rebel-ers!
I've been doing more walking than running over the past week. I am in that funk where I know I'll get better about runs when I start running, but I don't want to start running, either. I may have found a way to get treadmill workouts in, so that may be my new motivation!

Hope everyone had a safe and wonderful fourth of July weekend!!! I went to the zoo yesterday and walked around.. that was fun! We have a new penguin exhibit here... talk about cute!

New team member checking in. Last week, I ran 17 miles and spent 4.5 hours active. This week, I'm doing my 2 week National Guard thing and working out every night and doing cardio of some type every morning so my totals should be glorious!

I ended up doing my hard walk today on accident. I went to meet some friends at a botantical garden that I've never been to and got lost inside, LOL! Lots of hills and pushing the stroller through gravel and dirt made for a good workout!
Is there a link for a spreadsheet or anything we're supposed to use, or do we just post miles/time here?

Laughing at the botanical garden story... some of those places can be HUGE!

Hey Team,
Just checking in. I've been MIA for awhile. We finally bought a house in Ohio so thats one less thing to worry about. This house is also right next to an awesome park with a great running track. So no excuse for me to skip running, but I'm sure I'll find one. Were not moving until the end of July so things probably won't calm down until early august. So my workout record will continue to be lack luster until then probably. Sorry about the slacking and I hope everyone else is doing well.

Hey teammates!!
Question of a bit of a delicate nature:
I train with my in laws, whom I love dearly. FIL is racing with me, MIL is just doing the training. We are following a mileage based 1/2 marathon program. Tomorrow is an 8 mile run, my longest distance yet. We have a number of bike paths and running trails available to us. One is just under 3.5 miles each way (we ran it last week for our 7 miler). But when FIL called me today, he said MIL wants to run the trail by her house that includes some monster hills. "We'll just run til your watch (meaning my Garmin) tells us we have gone far enough". I explained that I thought we were running the flat trail again this week, and we could do the hill route next week when we only do six miles. No, no, no, we have to do it this week because SHE wants to.
Am I out of line to be a little miffed about this? I don't want to start a fight, since my inlaws do a lot for us, including watching DD sometimes during the summer. I really want to be successful with my training but I don't want to be doing killer hills on such a long run. I know that I need to do hill work, but I do it during the week on my short runs.
Thanks for letting me vent, I am stressing about this run tomorrow. Oh and both my inlaws are retired, so they don't have to worry about going back to work on Monday like I do. They can rest all day.

Veronica~ Sorry for my late post but I would have done the hills in the longer run anyway.. builds confidence and your muscles will hate you during, but they'll be building from the hills even in the long run. To really just concentrate on hills, you should just run a *steep* hill as many times as you can until absolute failure... to me that's hill work. On runs, its better to have hills worked in than just straight flat... works different muscles on the up AND the down.
As for me, on Friday I had softball, Saturday I ran a 3 mile race (28 minutes 58 seconds) and then played a nine inning baseball game right after the race. Wow was I tired after all of that! But of course, I went hiking on Sunday... ha!

Sorry I didn't get a chance to post my miles/minutes. We are actually headed to Disney next week and I've been trying to actually do some planning and getting ready for that. We've been getting some work done on the house and doing other traveling. I thought this summer was going to be laid back. So much for that. I only ran two days last week and so far only one this week. My running partner is moving while we are at Disney, so I've got to come up with a plan to keep myself going.

Hi fellow Rebels.....I'm new to running and now new to your team. But excited to have a group to motivate and share with. Please share all your wisdom with me.
My name is Jane. I'm 32 and just decided to start the C25K program. I've always wondered what all the fuss was about running but am now finding out how much I really love it. I'm at the end of week 8 (last run tonight) and have registered for the Everest Challenge at the end of Septemeber. I'm sooooo excited.
What information should we share here? Minutes and mileage I see. How often should we post this?
Any tips or words of encouragement would be appreciated. Have a great week!

Welcome wdwprncess77 (Jane)!!!
So jealous you're doing the Everest event! You're going to love it! If you have any questions on running stuff, gear, etc... ask away! :)
Send me a PM with your email address so I can set you up on the spreadsheet!
And you can post as often as you would like!
Update on me.. I've been doing baseball, softball, bowling and triathlon training for over a week straight now with no breaks. Phew, I'm tired!!!
How's everyone else doing??

Hi teammies!!
Just checking in. I had a good week-ran all 5 times I was supposed to. Today was 8 miles, did the hills (see my previous rant about this, though I am enjoying them kindof:rolleyes:)But today was EXTREMELY humid and I drank a lot during the run. Both my water and G2 gone completely by mile 6. When we finished and got back to the car, MIL had water. I pounded one bottle and started on a second. Got home and did my own version of an ice bath-got in the pool, which is kind of chilly. But it felt good.
It is hard to believe I am halfway through my training plan for my first half marathon! In another week, I will be able to say that "next month I am running a half marathon!!!"
Welcome Jane!! And cwnhokie, you are a better person than I, running during a WDW vacation!!
Suzann

Chrissy~ You rock!!! I always have an excuse for not working out on vacation, but you did it! You totally are a runner now!
Veronica~ 8 miles with hills? SWEET! Keep up the great work! And you are totally going to do awesome on the half marathon!!!
I did some triathlon training yesterday.. felt great during the swim... I think I'm getting my grove back! YAY!!!

Hey Team,
I finally moved in to the new house and I am somewhat settled. Last night I planned on getting up real early and going running at the park. Well, I got out of bed at 6 am but i didn't really wake up until about 8:30. Never the less, I did manage to go for a half hour run with Moose. I also went to the driving range for an hour. Hopefully I'm back on track.

Hey Rebels:)
whatsup?
Sorry I havent been posting much I have been lurking but I have been unable to run for nearly a month now so I haven't really had much to post about.
I have had really bad shin splint so I had to completely stop training and have been told to stay off my feet for 6-8 weeks while it heals, unfortunately if any of you have ever had the pleasure of looking after a 3 yr old "staying off your feet" just doesnt work, between taking her to Busch Gardens/Disney/the pool/park/beach I think I am on my feet more than when I run!!! :rotfl2:
Soooo that is me right now, not up to much and getting very restless, on the plus side, I am going to Disney on Tue for my Birthday with the Kid and we are going to have breakfast with the Princesses, life isnt all that bad :)
Hope all your training etc is going well and I will try to stay intouch a little better :)

Hey Suzann-
I am having trouble with the spreadsheet. It won't register my miles for the last 2 days, only the minutes. Could it be a glitch?:confused3
No running today as it was POURING rain all day. Tomorrow is supposed to be much better, a new month to rack up the miles. Sunday is our long run, my longest yet at 9 miles. Looking forward to it!:goodvibes

Hey Team,
I've been relatively consistent over the past week with running (or atleast taking my dog for long walks). I only missed one day so far due to the moving truck bringing all of our stuff up from South Carolina. Unfortunately I lost every ounce of fitness I've built up in the spring. So I'll be starting from square one but thats ok. I'll put up my times and miles up when I download them off my garmin.
Kirsty - Happy Birthday! Have fun at Disney.

Helllooooo, Rebels!
I'm sending you two new players: UGAHokies/Ben and K80K (Kate? not sure). Please welcome them with open arms, and direct them to the new August thread. :goodvibes
Hello Rebels! K80K reporting for duty.
Hi everyone. I posted on the biography thread, but I will go ahead and do a brief introduction of myself here. My name is Katie and I am a computed programmer living just north of Baltimore. I have a Labradoodle named Tillie. I started running in June of 2005 and have completed 54 races including 9 halves and 1 full. Of those 54 races 19 have been at Disney. Currently I am training for the Marine Corps Marathon followed by my first Goofy.
I am looking forward to learning how the teams work and getting and maybe providing some inspiration. Thanks for having me. :D

Veronica.. the miles are there, you just can't see them for some reason. Not sure why, but they are counting towards your totals :)
Hi Katie... welcome to the team! Glad to have you with us! You've done a ton of races.. that's awesome!!! Maybe you could help out with some of the newbies here that are just starting out... would love to have extra advice!
For me, I had a huge softball tournament this weekend. Twelve hours of play on Saturday and 10 hours yesterday. We won the championship though! Totally worth it!!!
Congratulations on your tournament Suzann! Sounds like a lot of hours but it definitely paid off in the end. That is awesome!
I would love to help in any way I can. :) I personally am looking for the accountability that being a part of a team includes. So excited to make new friends here.

Congratulations on the softball tournament! I would love to get on a soccer team or something fun like that, it's just so hard with the kids and their sports and my DH works late except for when he is coaching the kids.
I have to find a way to get through the next couple weeks now that my running partner has moved. When the kids go back to school I'm going to try to go after the bus stop with the jogging stroller, although I hate pushing that thing. My running buddy said we could still go together using bluetooth. I told DH, I guess at least that way if one of us got attacked the other one would know it.
cwnhokie: I know it is going to be hard with losing your RP. Hopefully you will find a way to feel comfortable during your runs so that you can get your mileage in. The kids will be back to school in no time and just think how much stronger you will be during your races when you don't have that baby jogger with you.
cwnhokie
08-04-2009, 06:28 AM
Katie, I was thinking the same thing. Even though I hate pushing that stroller, running without it should be a breeze. Last night I went to the grocery store after the kids went to bed and when I was pushing the cart out to the nearly empty parking lot I was thinking I would probably be safer running in my neighborhood than being in that parking lot alone, and I had never been afraid to do that before. I'm going out today even if it's just running around the circle in front of my house 20 times.
You are actually not too far from me, which town are you in? Maybe we could schedule a race together. My running buddy and I are going to try to schedule our 10K for the first weekend in October that I found yesterday. It's called Freedom's Run. It's a marathon, half, 10K and 5K that goes through Harper's Ferry, Antietam, C&O Canal and Shepherdstown. Looks like fun, although a little hilly for me. But without the jogging stroller a piece of cake, right?
Unfortunately you are probably right about being safer running in your neighborhood than being in the grocery store parking lot at night. I run a lot in the dark during the winter. I carry mace at all times and I have a headlamp, a reflective vest, and a blinking light on the back of my vest. I will also tuck my cell phone into my spibelt.
I live in White Marsh, which is just north of the city off of I 95. The race you are talking about sounds like it goes through many of the areas that I ran through during the American Odyssey relay. You aren't kidding about it being hilly. Whew! Unfortunately the first week of October is going to be my last 20 miler before the MCM and then the following weekend I am heading down to the mouse for RFTT. Hopefully we can find something else that will work for both our schedules because I would love to meet up for a race.
cwnhokie
08-04-2009, 07:31 AM
I really want to do RFTT, but we just got back from Disney and DH would fall over if I mentioned going back so soon. I'm hoping they still have it next year, I hope to do it right before leaving on a cruise we are planning.
Maybe I'll go get myself some Mace, suck it up and get out there.
I've done ToT the last two years, but this year it is the night before the MCM, so I decided to do RFTT instead. I am glad that I did in light of the rumors that they may be cancelling it.

Hey team,
Welcome to the new teammates.
I decided to restart P90X today so I just finished Chest and Back. I actually decided to start it yesterday, but I'm lazy. Anyway, I'm starting to get back into workout mode finally. so I should be posting a little more often.

Hi Steve, nice to meet you. :)
Hello fellow Rebels! :) Sorry to reply to myself but just wanted to say that I added my mileage to the spreadsheet today and have it updated from the beginning all the way through my 7 miler this morning.

08-05-2009, 11:47 AM
Well I talked DH into us restarting our gym membership today. Unfortunately our gym is a little run down and only has 3 treadmills working and they were all occupied while I was there today. I'm going to go back tonight to let my son use the pool. He is scheduled for his first triathalon in September and really needs to start practicing his swimming. I'm hoping to jump on the treadmill for a little bit then.
I also priced a quick weekend trip for just the two of us to go do the Race for the Taste and it was pretty cheap, I just haven't gotten up the nerve to mention it to him yet since we just got back from Disney on Friday.
If you need any help convincing him just give us a call. :D

Hi again Steve... its ok with being lazy once and a while.. we all do it! How are you feeling today? That first week is brutal!

Hey guys, sorry for my absence in over a week. I got sick, very sick :( Turns out I had Salmonella poisoning! Ugh... I don't wish that on my worst enemy! I'm SLOWLY getting better, but this has wiped me out! Worst thing: I can't compete in any of my triathlons for a month. Apparently you're not supposed to swim for up to a month after you take antibiotics for this. Ugh. Talk about a downer!
Ben, welcome to the team! PM me your email address and I'll send you over the link to the spreadsheet.
How's everyone else doing?????
Oh wow Suzann, so sorry to hear that. I hope you feel 100% real soon.
My training is going well. I am now 2 months and 11 days from my marathon and my long run this weekend will be 17 miles. Thanks to the fact that I started doing run/walk intervals I am really looking forward to it. :)
Suzann
08-14-2009, 01:43 PM
Katie... Thanks so much! It feels like a long recovery ahead.. but I'm trying to be patient. What ratio are you doing the intervals?
I am doing a 2:1. I have been running between 13-14 minute miles and according to Galloway that equates to a 2:1. My minutes/mile have been coming out about the same if I do the ratio or I don't so I think that is a good sign that I chose the right interval.
Yesterday I used to for my 17 miler and I feel good today. Before I would be laid up on the couch all day.
Today I am going to tour a gym I am interested in joining. I want to add spin classes as a form of cross training and this place offers them 3 days a week at 5:45 AM, which works great with my work schedule. Then I am going to lunch with my parents. I plan to do a light yoga this evening to get in some stretching and some core work.
Where my rebels at? :)
I did get that core workout/stretching in last night. Today I went and took my first "sample" class at the gym I toured yesterday. I did a spinning class, which I have heard is a great form of cross training for running. The teacher competes in Triathlons, so I thought that was pretty cool! I am going to go back Wednesday and try a yoga/pilates/TaiChi combo class and see how I like that.

Hi Fellow Rebels! I know, I know, you're sitting there scratching your heads wondering... where have I seen that name before? Yes, I WAS on this team before I fell off the face of the earth... or into a dark hole... or whatever...
I got so darned depressed about not being able to run and my knee not healing that I just stopped posting... I mean, what did I have to share? Not miles or minutes, since I was only doing Physical Therapy; not race reports, since I was on total inactivity... so, you get the picture. I had an MRI done and I have some swelling in my meniscus and some arthritic wear, but no tears or irreparable damage. So its been total rest for me... and a cruise to Alaska, which I just returned from.
NOW I have to think about how I'll do the DL 1/2 in 9 days without any base training... hmmmm.... on a prayer, maybe?:confused3
But I'm back and thought I'd check in :goodvibes
Hi Tammy! Nice to meet you. :) I am sorry about your knee troubles, but I think Physical Therapy would have been an appropriate thing to check in with. Oh and the Alaskan cruise would have been something nice to check in with as well, lol.

Tammy~ Very cool about the Alaskan cruise! I went up there almost 2 months ago now! Oh, and you can totally complete the half!! Here's some encouragement: I ran the half marathon less than a month after having knee surgery and never having a training run longer than 4 miles :goodvibes
Just remember: YOU CAN DO IT :cool1:

Thanks Suzann and Katie for the encouragement! Suzanne, I have to ask - could you walk after that? LOL ... I know I can do it, I just don't know what price I'll pay for finishing...
Yesterday I did an 8 mile walk at just below the sweeper's pace of 16 m/m. It was hard! I tried running 15 second intervals but gave up in the first mile since my knee was just screaming at me... no sense making it worse before Sunday!
I'll keep you posted on how it all goes...
Wow Tammy, great job on the 8 mile walk. I will be pulling for you this weekend.

Here are my August number: 21 hours and 12 miles. Not very much running but I have been working out regularly.
Suzann - could you send me the link to the spreadsheet again? I had to restore my computer and I lost all my links.

Hey Team,
Welcome to all the people who joined the team while I've been MIA. I should be on the boards more often now that I'm at school, but I've said that before. I didn't get out running this morning because, at the time, sleeping seemed like a better idea. I plan on getting out tomorrow. I just bought some new running shoes so I'm pumped to starting breaking those in. Also, I had to skip signing up for the USAF half because I was able to buy some Ohio State tickets for that weekend.
Thanks Suzann, I have the spreadsheet again.
