Anyone have a sun hat to recommend, whether for comfort, packability, whatever? I got way too much sun yesterday and have been thinking a hat would be a good idea for the Southwest Splendors trip.

A hat is a definite need for the Souhtwest Splendors trip. I bought a Tillie type hat that is spf50 at the gift shop at the Grand Canyon and wish I had bought one sooner. I know LLBean sells one that is very similar.

This is what I have (a packable Panama Hat) and I really love it. Rolls up and goes in your luggage just fine. Great sun protection.

I also have one of these, but I bought it at Disneyland...
Be careful, because they make them in kids' sizes that are way too small...

I would HIGHLY recommend a hat! It is very hot and sunny there, and a hat will really save you!

Thanks to you both - can't believe this didn't occur to me before now. But I still have plenty of time... Wonder if my kids would wear them too? They are pretty willing to wear baseball style hats, but these larger ones would give more sun protection.

For serious sun protection you might want to check out the Sun Precautions website. http://www.sunprecautions.com/shop_all.asp?CAT=ha&SUBCAT=0hThey sell their brand and Solumbra brand sun protection.

I also like Coolibar http://www.coolibar.com/. I used their clothing on my Southwest Splendors tour two years ago and was very pleased with it. They have a nice packable lightweight bucket hat.
