Well.......technically he is holding 'a' flag of sorts! Makes you wonder if it was a practical job by the manufacturer! lol
There are always debates about what constitutes a true error. Some believe it is only when there is a lot of pins produced with the same defect (the JanuRAY rather than JanuARY pin for example). Some feel ANY variation, even if it is missed ink in the production process is an error.
I am curious to see others views......and while we are at it, do you collect errors? Do you think they are cool? or just stupid?

I am of the type that beleive a true error pin is one in which the defect/error appears across a large number of pins. The coloring on a pin is put in by hand. It is very easy for the person to get confused and accidentally put the wrong color in the wrong spot. Some pins, especially some of the recent DS pins, have so many small areas that I am surprised there are not more coloring mistakes.
As for the a pin being on the worng card... it is an interesting mistake but it is not an error PIN. The pin itself is fine.
To answer Lynnie's question, I do not collect error pins. I am a bit of a perfectionist and I consider a pin defective if it has an error. Although I do have the 1940 Cruella pin and the 1957 Eveil Queen Tokyo error pins in my collection. Only because they are Villains. :D

I learned from Scoop Sanderson's workshop that most "error" pins are just defective or color variations. Very few true Error pins exist. I don't find them particularly valuable or more tradeable unless true errors (as described above)in that the majority of the edition size created all had the same error (JanURAY).

I don't collect error pins either, but I do have the Cinderella History of Art pin, because I don't think they will be re-doing it, and it's kind of a neat way to show my daughter (who is just learning how to tell time) how mixing up the hour and minute hands can change everything!!
P.S. My son has this Disney sports pin where Cincinnatti is spelled wrong. I think all the pins are like that too.

I don't think this kind of thing is a "true" error pin, because there is no error on the pin, just on the card backer the pin is on...
We've had a lot of these "errors" in the 12 month pins...I've seen quite a few of the Aurora pins with various backer cards -- from Jessie to How to Golf (a Goofy pin backer).
It would be tough to prove this came from the manufacturer this way vs. someone just switching the cards.
