The other day DCL called me again asking if we wanted to upgrade to a Cat 1 for an add'l fee. I thought the ship was booked -- I guess someone reneged again. Anyway, I really wish I had the extra bucks and I would do it, except for the fact that there are 8 in our family and only 7 are allowed in the room. Looks like someone else will be getting another call as well to upgrade. Good Luck!!!

I am curious to know what the upgrade fee was? Did they offer the full price difference between your current catagory and the new one? Or did they offer a discount?

We're cruising on the 7/27th 7-day Eastern Magic. We were told the add'l fee would be $1800. I do not know if this is a discount as I do not know what the different between the Cat 1 and the Cat 3 that we are currently booked for is. There are 3 adults and 2 teens in our current cabin.

ldb1003 -- I think they know how really bad I want the Cat 1. I'm still looking at options in case I get a 3rd call. I'd hate to see the room stay empty and one more family not be able to board the ship. They are persistent, though, I'll give them that.

I bet it won't stay empty. If no one will pay for the upgrade, I bet someone gets a very nice surprise upon boarding! Others here have mentioned receiving a complementary upgrade to category 1. It can't happen often with only 2 of those suites, but it has happened. Everyone on that week's trip.....cross your fingers.:D

In the big picture it's only paper! (I am still trying to convince my husband of that fact)
But you know, you really and truly only live once. I was married in Dec 2002 and cancelled our trip to Europe because I was too scared to fly because of 9/11.
We booked a category 5 (I think--outside state room w/verandah) and we were one of the lucky people that got upgraded to a 1 one bedroom suite! With our own concierge service, it was FANTASTIC!!! You have no idea how they fit the suites on the ship! My husband and I just looked at each other and jumped up and down like 3 year olds we were so excited!!

We were shown the cat 1 suite, while the guest was out and it was being serviced--HOLY COW!!!!!!!!!!!!

What if you cut back to get the $1800 like no groceries? Bread and Water only?

You'll have a great time no matter what you choose!

Have fun!

Eloise --- That sounds like a great idea -- I wonder if I could get my husband and kids to go for that. I could even lose a little bit of weight. I think I'll hope for the upgrade to the Cat 1 as a surprise. Man, wouldn't that be awesome.

As a matter of fact, when we cruised Sep 2000, we had booked a Cat 4 and 2 days before we cruised we were upgraded to a Cat 3 at no add'l charge. There were 5 of us then, too -- 3 adults and 2 teens. I'll hope for the best. You're right about getting spoiled on the CONCIERGE. I am now. They do everything for you.

They allowed you in an occupied room?

I would be more than a little upset if someone was allowed into my stateroom while I was out. If it was during boarding and I hadn't arrived yet, or after I had departed the ship, that's one thing. But to allow someone into your stateroom while your "stuff" is in it--that's just not right. It's an invasion of privacy at the least, and if anything was ever missing, that would be a sticky situation.

Anne...you know, I thought the same thing when I read that. Then I decided it must be a misquote because Disney wouldn't do that. I'd like to know which?

I'd be extremely upset to say the least if someone were allowed into my room when I wasn't there!! :(

We have peeked in rooms while they were being serviced, but NEVER have walked into a room that was occupied....

We have done a lot of picture taking for my website at embarkation and disembarkation time. But I would definitely not want to go into someone's occupied room, even if they were out at the time. We go in before people have arrived or after they have already left. The stateroom hosts probably think we are nuts, taking loads of pictures of an empty stateroom.
