Storybook Canal & Casey Jr. Train (I am NOT sad they will be closed for refurb during our Sept. trip)

I don't mind Casey going, but please leave the canal boats where they are. I love seeing the ducks there. They need a quiet place to live.

Roger Rabbit, waste of space.

I have more than one:
HISTA
Astro Orbiter
And I could live without Roger Rabbit and Autopia, although I think they are popular with many.

Mulholland Madness at DCA. I can't believe they are actually retheming it instead of just getting rid of it. I've only been on it once but it gave me a headache and it was just like the roller coaster they bring to the fair. In other words, it's so un-disney.
Also, I'm sad that Casey Jr. is getting a bad rap. As far as little train rides go, I think it's pretty fun with the hills and everything plus the scenery is so nice. But I guess everyone has their own opinion. :)

I love Casey Jr., too! Such a great little ride. Both CJ and Storybook are classic, and Fantasyland would be very incomplete without them.

This was a great idea for a thread, Emmers! I hope most people find it over here because I think you will get a lot of responses, and it is always amusing to see which things some people love but others cannot stand!
Hee hee - see, I LOVE Roger Rabbit! It is actually one of my favorite rides overall at DL, and definitely my favorite of the dark rides 'for kids.' :rotfl:
I also agree about wanting Storybook Land Canal boats to stay. I don't always manage to work it into the schedule, but it is unique and a childhood favorite and when I think of going to Disneyland as a kid, I think of that ride. That ride has 'Disney magic' and 'charm' written all over it.
Who was it that said HISTA needs to be gotten rid of? Was it DangerMouse? BINGO!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I agree 100% with that!:cool1: Ditch HISTA once and for all. For some reason, after only a couple of times sitting through it I was bored to tears. I just cannot bear to watch it now.
You know, it would be easy to list off all the ones I never go on and say I want those gone, i.e., the various vehicles on Main Street, but I would never want to see those go because they belong in DL. They are part of the landscape. Hmmm...maybe the canoes? It seems a lot of people kind of forget those are there. I guess I think most of the things there have their rightful place in Disneyland (and, in fact, some of the past rides that have been removed should NOT have been removed), so I really just want to get rid of HISTA once and for all and bring in something new.

haha I wanted so badly to put it in the other part of the Disney board, but I wasn't sure if this was considered chat or what!! I was gone when they added this side board so I don't know the rules LOL
For me..RR. GAG. But it looks nice on the outside and people who like it LIKE IT ;) so it should stay.
I wouldn't be sad if Mulholland left. I've never been on it, but we have a wild mouse in our amusement park here that i HATE that is basically identical.
I haven't been on casey jr or the storybook boats..we were going to for the first time this year, but we won the suite that day and never got around to it..then we FORGOT?!!? lol
Hmm..OH never been on Astro Orbiter, so I woulnd't care if it was gone lol
Aaaaand...ya the canoes, meh.
Aaaaaannnnndddd I'm sure I'll come up with something later LOL

I agree that HISTA should go.
About the canoes, I think i've only been on them once in my life but I don't want to see them go because I like that it is something different than the usual amusement park ride. That's the great thing about DLR is that there is such a variety of things to do. The canoes just seem unique because you are actually paddling a canoe and not just on a boat with a track guiding you along. Hmmmm.....maybe I need to go on the canoes again. I think it's been 16 years! I just remember it was tiring but now I'm getting all nostalgic over them. :rotfl:

Your points are all good. I would have a hard time seeing the canoes go, too, because, as with the various Main Street vehicles, even if I don't ride them I am just used to seeing them at DL going way back to childhood. It seems like the canoes are a ride that many people forget about because I guess they are not running all the time, but they are one of those integral stitches in the great fabric of Disneyland and they really visually represent Frontierland and the Rivers of America well.
That's the thing - I hated those darn Skyway buckets of doom that went form FL to TL and back when they were a fixture in the Disneyland skies way back when. I hated dangling from a precarious cable above hard cement - call me crazy - but I MISS seeing them glide across the skyscape of DL! They were yet another stitch in the fabric of DL.
But I have no sentimental attachment to HISTA - and I think it is definitely dead weight at this point!

I agree with HISTA! Dump it and bring over Philharmagic! :thumbsup2 They talked about putting it in the Muppet 3D theater when they announced the DCA changes a couple of years ago, but I haven't heard anything about Philharmagic since.
For the Astro Orbiter, I wouldn't necessarily want to see it gone, per se since it's a classic, just put it back where it goes! It's such a nuissance up in the front. :headache:

There was a movie, it was lame, and HISTA was its name-o
H-I-S-T-A,
H-I-S-T-A.....
You can fill in the rest....;)
But I am also not a fan of Innoventions. I think I am just not "tech" enough to get what it is trying to do. I thought the first ten minutes felt like a sales pitch at a state fair, and the rest was "eh...." But ASIMO wasn't "up" and my DS says he is AWESOME so maybe it just isn't aimed toward my old, boring demographic.....
However this is so much usable space there that could be used in fantastic ways if they only put some thought into it....

I feel bad just trashing HISTA like this, but yeah... it needs to go.
I think autopia can be made better. When chevron's sponsorship ends, I bet they will go electric. Hope they add better scenery though.
Innoventions need to be maintained better. It needs to update more often in the second floor. The attractions up there are lame.
Sorry girls... Princess Fantasy Fair needs to go. There is a lot of space there for a potentially cool ride. Or they could just put in another musical. Disney shows draw big crowds.

There are a couple of rides that I wouldn't mind if they went away (Astro Orbitor, Autopia), but lots of people (mainly little kids) would be sad to see them go, so those aren't what I'd choose to wave my Magic Disappearing Wand :wizard: at.
No, I'd want Innoventions to go. It takes up so much space, and it's not really worth seeing more than once or twice, IMO. They should make use of what's still a "futuristic" concept (revolving theater), and put in some new show. It'd be a win/win situation: a not-so-popular attraction makes way for a new attraction, the show building is already existant, and it'd be a nice, air-conditioned 20 minute or so break form walking around on a hot day.

That's a great idea, Krissy! I think that a great way to modernize the Autopia ride would have been to somehow make it "Cars"-themed. They could have essentially kept the same foundation they use for Autopia but just change the overall theme and paint the vehicles accordingly. I grew up with Autopia - actually with the inexplicable Autopia in Fantasyland and an Autopia in Tomorrowland (??), which never made sense to me, as they could have used one of those spaces for a different ride - and it holds a certain retro-futuristic, nostalgic place for me. I think I would miss seeing that track entirely gone because it has been there so long, but there are ways to make it more current. But now that Carsland is headed for DCA, I don't think they would ever revamp Autopia in a Cars theme in DL, sadly. That would be Cars overload, I think.
Even though I am sure I will love the upcoming Little Mermaid ride, I feel it would have been a better fit in DL rather than DCA, and some sort of Nemo ride would have fit better into the Pixar-heavy DCA (they could have done a whole 'ocean'-themed land in DCA to fit in with the sun/surf aspect of California, and stuck a Nemo ride in there). But I have to make do with what is there, I guess!

Ugh, HISTA REALLY needs to go. What an awful show. Put in Alien Encounter or something cool like that! Or at least Phillarmagic.
Another ride that needs to leave is Innoventions. It's a waste of space.
Hmm, and Maliboomer. I feel like I'm gonna fall out every time! Well, their already demolishing Maliboomer, so :thumbsup2
And, that's about it.
HISTA, Orange Stinger, Mali boomer, Jelly Fish jumpers, Autopia, Fairy Hollow and innovetions. All are serious wastes of space IMO, Well Autopiia is ok I just hate the way they smell and never ride them, so I wouldn't miss them. I also think that Finding Nemo could have been better I would have liked to see the old subs back instead.
Also I love Casey Jr and would be sad if he were gone :sad1:

I hate the canoes, but I would never wnat to seem them go. When I was a kid my Nana always made us ride them and I thought they were awful. Why would I want to paddle my self around when I could be riding pirates? I rember being afraid the Mark Twain or the Colombia was gonna run me over. Now I see them and remeber that from my childhood. I seem them and say Who wants to wait in line for sore arms. If they were gone I think it would be like a little piece of my child hood would be too. Its a love hate relationship. :lovestruc:mad:

Lmao yeah I miss the Beauty and the beast show. Also I spent two hours there once people watching and drinking hot chocolate. It is a nice place to have a seat, but I agree Its to much space for a meet and greet.

Innoventions is a big waste of space - basically just a hall full of advertorials for a bunch of corporates - when we were there in April half of the stuff wasn't working either = b-o-r-i-n-g!
HISTA is cute enough, but after you've seen Tough to be a Bug and Muppets 3D you realise it is pretty lame.

DL should get rid of
Space Mtn - Too dark!
Indiana Jones - Too bumpy!
Splash Mtn - Too wet!
Matterhorn - Too many holes in the mountain!
BTMRR - Too many ups and downs!
POTC and HM - All those AA characters are obviously fake! Duh!
DCA should get rid of
Soarin Over California - Too smelly! Always smells like oranges for some reason.
Tower of Terror - The elevators are all broken! Would somebody please fix them!
California Screamin - Too long!
Grizzley River Run - Also too wet!
Toy Story Midway Mania - Too hard!

Tied for third place is Astro Orbitor and Mulholland Madness
Tied for second place is Innoventions and Autopia

Any of those, I wouldn't be sad if they left. Maybe Autopia, but probably not.

I would be sad if Autopia left. It has a lot of history and I actually like that ride, although I admit I don't go on it very often because the line always seems so slow. And I agree with PPs that it would be better with electric cars.

I have so many ideas for how DL and DCA could change things. I have never been in Innoventions because I don't know how to go inside, I never really tried, but that whole area is a mess to try and figure out where to go. They should just get rid of that whole building and make some sort of ride. Tomorrowland is hard to get into with Astro Orbiter up front and I would love to ride it if it was in the same location as it was before! Add another vote to HISTA, I was 5 the first and last time I ever saw that and I was sooo bored. They could get rid of that and make it into a Wall-E show or perhaps Space Mountain JR. :lmao:
But, I would never want them to get RID of a ride and not replace it, because that just means more people in a different line!

HISTA...never even seen it, no desire to see it, lol. I'd have no problem if it left.
The Orange Stinger could go. Takes up a lot of space.
The silver-flyer-rocket-spin-in-a-circle things in DCA could go too. The ride is so boring I can't even remember the name, lol. Is it even still there?? ;)
Astro Orbiters--I'm torn. I don't like where it is. It seems to be plunked down in the middle of the foot path and i hate that. On the other hand my kids love it, and it's pretty at night (that counts for something, right?)

Since I've been going to DL since I was a little kid, I have a soft spot for any ride that's a classic, especially the ones that have been there from the opening. I have to say that Casey Jr and Storybook are probably our two favorite attractions. Crazy, I know. It's the first two things we ride when we hit the park in the morning and usually the last two before we leave. Something about both just screams "Walt Disney" to us more then anything in the park.
If something had to go, like others I can't stand HISTA. RR could disappear and I wouldn't be upset either. Canoes? Never been on them, probably never will. As far as DCA .....I'll pass judgment after 2012.

Part of it is the charm that both rides have. Sure, neither one is thrilling or exciting, but it's so quiet, relaxing and I also find anything in minature fascinating. It seems to be so separated from the park when you're on Storybook. Casey Jr is just a great way to see a birds eye view of it all after you ride it. Plus, hearing the train say "I think I can, I think I can" in the choo choo voice cracks me up every time.
Ok, I sound like I'm 5.

And yes, Sleeping Beauty Walkthrough is really wonderful. I was told I got to see it was I was about 5 years old, but don't remember. From what I'm told, it's done so much like the original with many plusses. Great special effects on some. Little things like peeking in some of the small door windows and things will jump at you, etc. It's another thing we never miss and try to see early in the morning after we've bought our coffee. :)

I totally agree that HISTA needs to go.
They NEED to update Star Tours- BAD.
I wouldn't be sad to see RR go. That one makes me sick.
I wish they'd bring back the people movers :(
PFF needs to be moved somewhere else. Way too much space for what it is. They need to make the line move faster too. Maybe have different lines that go to different places with a few princesses in each place...we got there 20 minutes before it opened and STILL ended up waiting almost an hour.
Autopia needs to be updated. That line is awful.
Innoventions. Nuff said.

I'm gonna have to say I love Star Tours. I enjoy how old the video looks, especially the hair!
:3dglassesI wouldn't mind HISTA leaving and It's tough to be a bug scared me so bad years ago I cant ride it again anyway. So both may go.
I also agree that all the lame, non-disney DCA rides should go. I like themes! That's what makes disney special!
And hey, take out Innoventions too. The intro bores me to death and once I'm in I wonder why I bothered.
The rest, however, is amazing. I can't wait to be back...:cloud9:

I am a big fan of themes too. The rides I like the least are Autopia and Roger Rabbit, but I think if they made smoother tracks, cooler vehicles, and better (Disney-er!) theming for Autopia, it could actually be really cool! Innoventions and HISTA are wastes of space at this point, the Princess Fantasy Faire could be smaller as well. I love Storybook Land Canal Boats, Casey Jr. not so much, but I think it looks appropriate. Basically...more themed rides and shows! :D I have always thought a Lion King or a Beauty and the Beast ride would be REALLY cool. The Little Mermaid ride sounds amazing too; they should be doing more of that stuff in both parks.

Innoventions, HISTA and Pooh. Dh went on Pooh for the first time yesterday and said the only good thing about it was the AC. My girls didn't even seem too thrilled.

I made my first trip to DLR this past June, and I'll be coming back for another week in January at VGC with my mom again (yay! SOOO excited!). Having spent a week at both parks I can say I'd be happy to see HISTA gone and Philharmagic added, because it's fantastic! I also wouldn't mind Mulholland gone &...dare I say Zephyr?
JMHO. :)
And Sherry E, I completely agree with the Ocean-themed land. I believe it would have worked out quite nicely. IDK why it hasn't already been done...? Hmm?
:)

Yes! I am glad someone agrees with me! I really like ocean-themed things anyway, but I envisioned that the brains behind DCA were struggling with and continue to struggle with how much of a Pixar influence they should work into the California-themed park. I don't know if they did struggle, but that is what I imagine!:lmao: Somehow, they decided to work A Bug's Land into a California-themed park, and now we are getting a Cars-themed land which can remotely tie into the California car culture, I suppose, so it just seems like it would have been logical to work in an ocean-themed land (Paradise Pier doesn't cut it) into a theme park centered around a state which is known for its beach/ocean culture! And this mythical ocean-themed land could have played host to a Little Mermaid ride and any Nemo-oriented things (had they not put Nemo in DL). Plus, it would have been a nice and colorful addition/complement to a park that is kind of drab (color-wise) in several areas (for example, Condor Flats is a dull area, aesthetically speaking).
But, alas, no ocean-themed land. Paradise Pier is about as close as we come to it, but that is more boardwalk-themed than ocean-themed.

HISTA for sure!!! Nothing to do with Disney, and my kids don't know anything about those movies. A close second would be RR. Such a long line for such a short (silly) ride. UGH.
One of my all time FAVS is Storybook Canal!! :lovestruc And DS's favorite is Astro Orbitors (I like where it is, its so awesome to be up there at night, especially during the fireworks!) We also like Autotopia, but I agree the fumes are headache-inducing. PFF MUST stay! Its the only place in the park JUST for the princesses and little girls! When you think about it, almost all of DL is geared towards the "boy friendly" movies.

I have to agree on getting rid of HISTA...I really like the idea someone posted about putting Mickey's Philharmagic there. I love that show.
I don't care for Innoventions either, personally I would like to see an updated Carousel of Progress there but I know that won't be happening.

Star Tours needs to be either updated or removed. I would really love to see them remove it, and replace it with an updated Journey to Inner Space.
Also the people mover tracks, either bring it back or get rid of them.

I wouldn't care if Autopia was no longer there, because I don't go on it anymore.
I'm too tall for it, and it's boring.
I'm 6 feet, 2 inches tall. Not exactly a fun experience in those tiny little cars. :rotfl2:
DBF is 6'3", we feel your pain, and because of the stench  we don't ride it anymore. When we past it for the train station the girls always say "WHY does ANYone ride that more than once?" LOL none of us like it, too stinky!!!!
The Golden Zephyr is the silver thing, the girls love that one and the Orange Stinger, they were so excited in July when it was actually open (the Zephyr). LOL They like the Astro Orbiters too, but I really think they should put it back up where it was before, it was neater when it was up higher.
Storybook Canal, went on it one time with DH. Bored us to tears, looking at all those little houses and stuff. The CM was trying really hard to make it fun, but I can't imagine why little kids would like that. Mine would fall asleep! LOL And it seemed to go on FOREVER!
HISTA can also go.
I don't care for many of the more "carnival" rides they have over at DCA.
NO!!!!!!! Never say Story Book Canals, I LOVE that ride!!!!! Especially at night, when it's all lit up. It's one of my favorites!!! :) My kids never fall asleep, they ask if they can ride on the front of the boat. :)

OMG!...I'm gonna have to start using that word: 'SIGGY'. I usually call mine my 'Co-Pilot in Life' because he drives everywhere we go and I sit shot-gun with the maps, directions and stuff needed to get us where we need to go...
DallasDisneyDork: I too love your pics...I've been to DL in 2006 & 2008...my 'siggy' was last @ DL in 1981!...so yes his return is long over due...we're going Thanksgiving weekend for my 40th B-Day before we cruise the Mexican Riviera on Royal Caribbean the following week...
Here are our pics...1st Jon, then Joey:

Well....it's hard to pick since you start messing with classics or picking on others' faves, but since you asked...
Toon Town. The whole thing
Innoventions
Autopia (as is).
Daily Fantasmic and parades
Astro Orbiters
Pooh
Most of the carnival rides in CA
And though I love the ride and it has a definite nostalgia factor going for it, I would sure like it if they did something with Jungle Cruise. Rarely, there is a captain that can turn the lame script into something funny. Usually, though, I just chuckle because I don't want them to feel bad and cringe while I'm doing it. It was SO much better when the captains were allowed freer rein with the spiel.
