So, I figured I could start this seeing that I have already bought a dress, shoes, and booked Randy.

So let's meet the players...
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/P5290150.jpg

My name is Jennifer and I am marrying Daniel.
We are Disney enthusiasts, and try to go to Disney at least once a season. Being from Miami really helps us in that endeavor, lol. We usually go in February, sometime in the summer, October (for my b-day) and always in December.

Danny and I met in high school... heck we dated our senior year but I was flighty and he was crude so we didn't work out. Then we bumped into each other at our local Target when I was a Junior in college. He was working there and I was shopping, my favorite past time ;). I was iffy about dating him, especially because he just broke up with someone but we gave it a shot and look at us now... getting married.

He proposed on a cruise we took
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/th_proposal.jpg (http://s30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/?action=view&current=proposal.flv)
we had friends with us and got a great video of it, even if it is blurry.

My ring is a 1.5 carat totalweight with a 1.36 carat center square brilliant cut stone.

he did a very good job

So onto wedding stuff...

Once he proposed we both had no other thought than this was going to be a Disney wedding. We both love it there and he'd never let me have it anywhere else.

I'm a teacher for emotionally handicapped students and he is a paramedic. Now as a teacher we all know I am sorely underpaid but because I live at home with my mom, aunt and uncle I really get to save a lot of $$. So I have a nice savings account but the fiance does not. So we are doing this on a budget. He gave me a number, we negotiated and came to a compromise (or really the # I wanted :rotfl2:).

So we decided an Escape Wedding was perfect for us. Now all we needed was a date and time. We wafted between summer (easy for me because of the job) or my dream time of year Christmas. We originally decided on June because we could honeymoon right after. Then June came this year and the 100 degree weather started. So we changed it to December.

Our agreed upon date is now 12/20/2010!:lovestruc

Once we got that settled we started planning. Now we all know we can't book anything with Disney until possibly December of this year but most likely even later than that so I can't get into anything official but I will tell you what I have booked.

On May 31st I went dress shopping, I know it's early but I didn't go in with the intention of buying, lol. I had 2 appointments that day, one at Alfred Angelo and the other at David's Bridal. AA was first. We went in, my mom, aunt, two cousins and older cousin's son. Tried on 5 dresses and fell in love with one. It just so happens that the dresses were on sale and this dress that was originally $600 was now $425. Not a bad discount. But this was only my first dress store so I must go to another one. We went to the DB store, had a beyond rude woman helping us and left after only trying on 2 dresses. It just so happens that AA and DB are on the same street in Coral Gables, FL so we just walked back to AA and I paid for my dress. I loved it, yes, but the fact that it fit into my budget was even better!

The Dress

So I picked out a dress, no veil yet, the one in the pic is not the one I want. I'm leaning towards a mantilla veil to honor my hispanic roots.

But I have known what shoes I wanted since even before I bought the dress. I'm not a traditional personal at all, and I want to dye my crinolin but my dress does not have a separate layer of it so I figured the only funky I will have is my shoes.

I own a pair of white/black/red shoes (which many will recognize from Target). They are my most comfy heels and are relatively new. They will be my something old. My zebra print and patent red peep toe heels.

Pictures
I have been following the weddings board for a while now and have been looking at Randy Chapman's pictures forever. I thought I would be fine with disney photography services but after comparing both I knew I wouldn't be completely happy with only disney's pictures. SO I discussed it with Danny and then he did the comparison. He even agreed that we needed to go with Randy.

So I contacted Randy, got the prices, and then flipped at how cheap it was. Even with an extra hour added in we kept it at under $1000. I was so happy that this extra expense was so affordable.

So that is what I have done up to now. I have a few ideas for welcome baskets, favors and of course reception locations in a planning folder. Once I get to it, I'll post again.

Ok, so I'm debating where to have my reception. We are going to be just 25 people in total but those 25 (us included) are party people! SO I want a place we can have an iPod setup or a DJ (he's in the budget now so cross your fingers that he stays) and space to dance.

So any suggestions? I want to be armed and ready when I get to my planning session with all my ideas and places.

And also, aside from reception help...

I'm debating whether we should rent DVC points so we can afford to stay at the BWV or BCV for our entire stay. I know it's a bit too early to rent them for next year but it seems like it comes out so much cheaper. The Boardwalk resort for those night this year is $510 a night, waaaaay to expensive!

If I rent it might be under $1000. I think we're going to lean towards renting DVC points.

When we were deciding on reception site, we used ******************** a lot. The prices may be off but it gives you a good idea of what spaces are available and for how many people.

I am all for renting points, I think it's a great way to stay at a fabulous resort for a little bit less. I have done it several times!

Thanks, I've glanced at the site, I may need to look closer.

The fiance is sleeping in this morning, but I think I'm going to run the points thing by him, he flipped when I showed him the 2009 room prices. Renting seems so much cheaper, and it will allow us to stay at the same resort for our entire trip, instead of switching from a value for the first few nights to the deluxe for a few more nights.

Ok, so I'm thinking of calling the DFTW peeps and asking for a site visit. I'll be in Orlando in August with my mom and Danny so it's the perfect time. I'm not wavering between the gazebo and SBP for the ceremony.

I think a visit will be perfect.

Ok, so I was in Downtown Disney this past weekend and bought a few wedding items. I don't have pics yet because the AC has been out at my house so I haven't been staying there. Imagine 100+ degree weather and sitting in a HOT house, not fun.

So once the AC is fixed I will be posting pics.

I bought the Mickey and Minnie Wedding ears for our Save the Dates, I'm planning on taking a pic with us in them and finally letting everyone know it's a Disney Wedding.

I also bought a Wedding Mickey and Minnie Salt and pepper shaker set. Not to use but for the StD pics. My cousin is a photographer so she offered to do our Engagement session and a pic for the save the dates.

I'll be going back in August to visit the ceremony sites and take pics of them all. I called the wedding number and the man I spoke to told me that I can go visit any site, even the wedding pavillion as long as a wedding isn't going on. SO I will be doing that with my mom, Danny and probably a cousin.

So, I think I'm wavering between the gazebo and SBP. Any opinions? I like that for my wedding I can have everyone sitting under shade in SBP, we're Floridians so even December is hot for us, lol.

So, during the July 4th holiday Danny and I went to the Universal Orlando Resort for the long weekend. We enjoyed our weekend very much. We stayed at the Royal Pacific Hotel and had front of the line passes all weekend which was great because we all know how parks get during a holiday weekend.

On the way home we decided that we would go to Downtown Disney to walk around, shop, and (in my mind) look for wedding stuff :)

We went to World of Disney first and bought our Wedding Ears!

We are going to take a picture wearing the ears in our Save the Date. A family friend has a 1957 Red Thunderbird that Danny dies over.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/2543677296_cb72aa2190.jpg
He has kindly let us borrow it for our engagement pictures and we will also take a pic of us in the car with the ears on for our StD's. I'm really excited for us.

This was a very productive weekend in helping us get our save the dates and our engagement pictures Disney-fied ;)

Next up... centerpieces...

girli565
07-29-2009, 05:39 PM
My mom realized the other day that getting centerpieces done by the Disney florist would be a pretty penny and since she has offered to help with the bulk of the reception costs she wants to save money, and I can't really blame her. I don't mind losing control when it saves me money, lol.

So since the wedding is so close to Christmas we decided that a christmas theme would be appropriate. Now it's nothing overtly green/red, lol. It's just a small touch in the centerpieces that will look something similar to this
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/christmassnow-display01-lg.jpg
Now, the candle will not be red, but white and the hurricane vase will be filled with red gemstones. The wreath around the vase will be plain with mickey confetti sprinkled all around it. I have bought the gems and confetti. The gems were on sale at Michaels and the confetti I had made in the wedding colors; Red, White, and Black.
I also bought Red, white and black ribbon that was on sale for 33 cents a spool. I will need them for the favor tags and at 3 for a $1 you can't beat it.

07-29-2009, 05:50 PM
So, we finally all decided on which invitations we will be using. It took over a month to finally decide between the 3 options I gave them (them being my mom, aunt, cousins, Future MIL and Danny). I knew black was going to be one of our wedding colors so what they chose went perfectly with the theme.

So, I was browsing around at wedding bands for Danny a while ago but never found anything that was "him".

Then I found it... We have a thing we say to each other all the time, comparing our love to infinity. He even went as far as to get his first tattoo and it was the infinity symbol. I'll be going for my tattoo in Sept once summer is over. His is just the infinity symbol on his back between his shoulder blades mine is going to be a little more subtle. I want a japanese cherry blossom on the top of my foot and inside the flower I will have the infinity symbol. So the symbol is very important to us. I also was not going to get him a very expensive wedding band because he is a paramedic and could easily lose the ring (he's that kind of guy, lol).

I was looking at stainless steel rings and found the perfect ring for him
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/Dannysweddingband.jpg
I know he'll love it.

Now my wedding band is a bit more complicated. I am going to have to have it made because my e-ring is a custom made ring. The jeweler who made it doesn't have a matching band for it but has a picture of what it will look like so that's what I am attaching...
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/jennsweddingband.jpg
It's the match to my side stones, it's dainty looking so I'll probably be buying two bands to sandwich my e-ring to make it look more substantial.

So yesterday I finally spoke to Stacy, liked her right off the bat! She didn't try to upsell me but just answered all my questions. And she answered them all honestly without trying to suggest something more grand or something I didn't want or couldn't afford.

At the end of our convo she promised to email me a ton of info on pricing structures for both an Escape and Wishes Wedding. She planned a, Escape package with a small reception and broke down all pricing for me and then did the same with a Wishes wedding package. It was funny how the Escape package break down was exactly what I would have planned or myself. I just balked at the price, I mean close to $10k for an escape package and we couldn't even dance or enjoy the reception like I would want to. Then I looked over the Wishes breakdown (we all know the 12k minimum for 2010) and it was close to 18k but there was so much I could cut out like photography/videography, transportation, bridesmaid bouquets, ect... and the price dropped from 18k to close to the 12 minimum.

So, Danny, my mom and I sat down yesterday and discussed the situation. We could have an Escape Wedding that would cost 10k but skimp on some of the things that are important to us or pay a bit more and get everything we want plus be able to invite the full list of 35 people we actually started out with.

We decided that a Wishes Wedding was for us... now we just have to keep it at the 12k minimum. I'm a budget queen, I mean I saved close to half my pay last year while still paying for a car and all utilities in my house... I can do this!

So, I guess we just moved to a Wishes wedding!

So Thursday morning we left the house at 10am to make our 2pm appointment with Stacy.

We were driving up for vacation with 20+ family members for my baby nephews' first disney trip. So when I finally decided that I was going with a Wishes wedding I asked for a site visit so I could see a few places and make a choice so I can get penciled in.

We made it to Franck's at 2 exactly and were greeted by Stacy. She was so kind and very informative. And she was willing to see and walk with us to everything I wanted see even in 98 degree weather.

We first went to see the wedding pavilion because she said we had to see it even if we want to be married at SBP. We saw the pavilion, loved it and asked where a small reception for 35 would take place at the Grand Floridian so we could see it. She took us to the Whitehall Room and patio and we loved it, it has a view of the castle and we can even see fireworks from the patio. I mean, come on, that sold it for me but I still wanted to see SBP and the St. James room.

We got back in the towncar and drove to the Boardwalk Inn. We walked in, looked around the lobby and started the walk to SBP. And kept walkin, and walking, and walking... see a pattern there? It was hot and the walk was so long. Strike one against SBP. I asked if there was another exit closer for me to walk out of and was told no. Then we made the long walk back to the convention center and to the St. James room. The room is gorgeous and large for a small wedding like mine but it would have been perfect once tables and a dance floor were involved. They were setting up for a wedding while we went to look at it, it had a cake table and a long dinner table in it whe we went. The planner pointed out the new carpet and asked if we like it. I had to admit that it was loud and maybe even tacky but it did go with the theme of the hotel. I just thought it was a bit much.

We left the boardwalk Inn and went back to Franck's. We spoke about photography and a little about $$ and what I expected from the wedding. We also talked theme, colors, and how I wanted a more Mickey theme than cinderella/princess theme.

So now to get to the pictures, there's a lot of them so I'll warn you now...

So between the two places I saw I decided on the Weding pavilion and the whitehall room/patio. Stacy penciled us in and now we just need to wait and talk to her in November and then again a week before our year out date so we can confirm the dates. I'm looking forward to this because this trip made me very excited! The best part was when we were on the monorail going to our car after our Magic Kingdom day we saw a reception going on at the whitehall patio and it looked lovely!

Yay for a wishes wedding! I think it will definitely work out better for what you want since you want a reception with dancing.

You know, I always thought I wanted SBP too, I wasn't crazy about the WP, but when we were there in June we stopped in to look at it and I wanted to cry it was so beautiful. That's when I knew I had to get married there and nowhere else. I love the WHR, I wish we had gone to see some of the rooms in person! We have too many people for WHR but we're going to use it for our pre-reception, so I'm very excited about that.

Good luck with the rest of your planning!

Hi,

First off congrats and can't wait to hear more about you plan's and see more pic's. Your wedding dress looks great on you and cute theme for your wedding.

I'm also a South Florida bride and we are still debating if we should have an escape or wishes wedding. For the amount of enhancements I would like the wedding cost close to $12K, so we figure why not just do a wishes...but that might bump us up to $14-16K.:confused3 Just like your family, my family are party animals and we love to dance and drink (latino'....go figure, lol). We are planning to have our wedding June 29 (the day we were married in a civil union) but as Floridian's we try to stay away from the heat. I'm hoping by reading your experiences I can make the right decision for myself. :)

If you don't mind me asking...can you PM the breakdown for your wishes budget and the wishes packet (once they send it)?

Congrat's again!!!:cheer2:

Thanks,:thumbsup2

Thanks,:thumbsup2Once I get everything I'll probably post the info here in my PJ. I know people are curious how I am going to be able to stick to the 12k budget and I would love to show them how I did it. I know that my Cuban/Puerto Rican family needed a PARTY, and only a Wishes Wedding would allow for that. I discussed it with Danny and we agreed that a party was also important for us, especially the food and dancing aspect. Wishes was the only way to go. And Stacy really did a great job in showing us how much the extras on an Escape package would end up costing and that really solidified our decision to go with a Wishes wedding.

I am in love with your invitations! Those are awesome!I love them too but they aren't as customizable as the site leads me to believe so I may be changing my mind.

I just found your PJ, and I have to say I LOVE the dress, shoes and the all the plans!!

I really wanted to get married around christmas in disney, because I love christmas, and disney is the best place to be for it! However, almost everyone of our potential guests had a problem with it (mostly because we are so far away from WDW, and people don't like travelling in the winter).

But now I will get to see a Christmas-y wedding, so I am excited!!! Oh, and I think the centerpieces are adorable!

So... things have changed DRASTICALLY!

Danny asked me the other day why we were waiting so long and I told him that WE had agreed to a Dec. 2010 wedding because it gave us time to save $ for a house and wedding. Then he asked me the logical question... "why wait?"

So we discussed things and decided that we would go with a smaller wedding, and Escape package, and get married sooner. He's applying to jobs out of state so buying a house is completely on hold until we know anything for sure, so if we are going to have to rent anyway why not move our wedding date up and by doing that save some $$?

I love when he's all "let's save $$", it's kind of sexy, KWIM?

So as of this morning when I spoke to Stacey, we are now officially booked for June 14, 2010 at the Wedding Pavilion and in Dec. we will be booking our lunch at the Napa Room. It's not a huge Wishes Wedding like we initially decided but with the plans to move and wanting to save more money we think this is our best choice. Especially when we have the Escape amount already in savings, that's a huge plus!!!

So everything is different, and now I'm scrambling to see what we can get together for welcome bags, favors and hotel stays!

I'm also looking for a good site to host our wedding site where the recipients of our Save-the-Dates will pre-RSVP so we have an idea of who's coming. Any suggestions?

Wow, you're way too calm to have only started planning in Sept!

It seems like every thing I do aside from work is about wedding stuff right now, lol. I'm sure for the next few months I won't worry about it but once spring break rolls around I'm sure things will pick up again.

Well, now this is really happening. Danny and I will be signing it this afternoon and I will be mailing it out tomorrow. It's a teacher work day here and I'm opting it so I have the whole day off! So wonderful.

I also have an appointment with a friend of mine who does printing work at 2pm tomorrow. He's offered to help with our save the dates and I think I'm going to let him do the whole wedding from STD's, invites, favor tags and all. I want everything to have a uniform look and since we need such small numbers it won't be expensive at all. I mean, from the way our guest list looks right now we only need 15 invites. We only have 23 guests.

I also think we're changing the red color to pink, like a fuschia/hot pink. Red is a winter color and at least pink makes me think summer. I'm going to have to exchange all the red ribbon I bought for pink.

And lastly, I need a sand ceremony set. Nothing monogramed because I just want them to be normal vases once we're home. Any ideas?

LoA is SIGNED!!!!!! My CC has been charged and I'm now waiting to be assigned my wedding planner.

On Friday I met with a friend of mine who does printing and graphic design. He offered to help us with our Save the dates, invites, favor tags and all the other paper stuff I'm forgetting. We met with him and made a color change. Danny was not feeling the fuschia/hot pink so I compromised and went with an aquamarine blue/black/white with only touches of fuschia. Our invites will be FL Marlins colored! LOLOL, the designer and Danny loved that. Ha!

I have pics of the new flowers I want to use for my bouquet and for the centerpiece and altar arrangements. It's a summer wedding now and deep red roses are not summer to me, so I want to go with gerber daisies. I'll post inspiration pics when I'm not sick.

So recap: YAY for signing LoA and paying the deposit!!

So I went to the $1 store today because I had some extra money floating in my bank acct and thought that I could stock up on nonperishable Welcome bag goodies!

So this is the bag I bought a few months ago from the Disney Store, they were on sale for $1.50 per bag. I bought 20
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/BYekItg2kKGrHgoOKjgEjlLmZyqPBKhyC-b.jpg

I bought coloring books for the 4 kids we have coming, it's funny, three of them are 2 years old, and one is 1, so they don't count towards the guest list for the Escape wedding. I also bought them a few toys, they had gliders and kazoos.

Then for the adults I got ponchos, antibacterial wipes, and bandaids. There will be more but I did really well on the kids bags, lol!

I also have to share my amazing luck!

I booked a value for the 4 days and thought that I would change it later when I either rented points or got a great deal when June discounts came out... WELL

We got a PIN Code! So we are now staying at the GF Club Level at just $500 more than the points I was going to rent. Yayayayay!

So, on Oct. 30 we met with my friend from high school who now runs his own design firm. Of course being a guy and being outnumbered my fuschia got vetoed really quickly :headache:

So he brings out his huge book of colored paper and flips to the blue section. There's the normal royal blue, baby blue, tiffany blue... nothing I like but Danny is insistent that we cannot have a pink on our invite! So we finally get to the last blue in the section, aquamarine, and it was perfect. So now our colors are black, aquamarine and linen white.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/Whitelinencardstock.jpg
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/aquamarinecardstock.jpg
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/blacklinencardstock.jpg

The Invites are now 5x5 card stock, black envelope, black outside, white invite inside, white inserts, we're having three inserts (response card, accomodations, and directions to WP and Napa Room) and the aquamarine will be the accent color behind the white. They are going to be gorgeous and once I get a sample I will post pics.

So, Danny won that batttle. But I am still accenting everything small with the hot pink. The ribbon for the favors, my bouquet and the centerpieces will most likely be pink flowers. Ha!

So when I went for my site visit back in August, we were planning a Wishes event then, we got to hang out in francks for a while. I took pics of anything I thought I would like. We came across these flowers...
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/P8130072.jpg
I love them, and now that I am getting married in the summer I can have this summer flower in my bouquet! And everywhere else that I can get it! In your face, babe! ;):rotfl2:

I know that I want summer-ish flowers and Daisies are very summer to me. So I think I'll be cutting roses and going with seasonal flowers, and they're usually cheaper than flowers that aren't in season. So what flowers are in season in the summer?

So I got a call at my lunch hour that should have made me so excited! But my mood today is less than excited...

I got assigned my coordinator, Amy! Anyone else have her? Is she good, prompt in responding?

But it seems that work drama has killed all my wedding excitement. I work with students who have emotional and behavioral problems and I have been with my students since the 6th grade, they are now in the 8th grade. I have moved up with them every year and LOVE it! Now, we all know that the economy has been a huge issue for school districts and now our little Emotional Behavior Disorders (EBD) unit is effected. Out of the 8 teachers in my department 3 are being surplussed to other schools because our enrollment is down. That leaves 5 teachers in my unit when we really need a minimum of 6. I'm not one of the teachers being moved to another school but now I'm losing my classes and being moved into a Severe Emotional Disorder class, with students I am not used to and have never dealt with their types of disabilities before. I'm freaking out here. And I'm so pissed off at administration because the other remaining teachers aside from myself were asked what they wanted to teach and I was told that I was being moved to the other classroom. No one asked me anything. That's not right nor fair. I have seniority over 2 of the remaining 5 teachers in my department and I think that if it comes to that I may have to pull rank. I don't want to but I think I"m going to have to in order to keep my sanity at my job. :confused3

This has been a real sucky day so far, I can't even get excited over being assigned a coordinator and getting my planning kit.

YAY for the coordinator and new colors!! I really like the whole combo (including the fuschia)

Sorry about the work drama, working in education myself I feel for you. What are the grades in your school? Were you going to lose the students at the end of the year anyway? Are they moving you mid year? First off, kudos on even working with the EBD kids, and I'm sure you're very good at what you do, so I'm sure you have nothing to worry about, being transferred. I'm sure it will be hard, but soon (hopefully) you'll become attached to your new students. And that is totally stinky they just moved you, while they asked the others. :( Sorry

I'm sure it will be hard, but soon (hopefully) you'll become attached to your new students. And that is totally stinky they just moved you, while they asked the others. :( Sorry
I would have lost them at the end of this year but it sucks to be a few doors away from them with new students who I have to work double just to get to know. EBD kids need stability and this will kill them. I mean, I'm grateful that I'm not being moved to another school but I just hate the way things happened. Thanks!

So yesterday my cousin, who is an amatuer photog, took our engagement pictures for us. I got back a sneak peek late last night. Hopefully I'll have the rest by the end of this week. She wants to tweak them and make them perfect before anyone sees them. I guess she thought these were ok so far! :goodvibes

So I finally got back the 300+ pics from the engagement session. Out of that we got mayne 25 images that we were both happy with. Which is fine with me, I wasn't expecting even that much, lol. Danny is a laugher and I swear I have more pics of him laughing than anything else but they're cute for the album. We did get a Save the Date pic so I was relieved.

So when we got engaged I was excited to start looking for a home. We don't plan on having kids any time soon and we will have my mother living with us so it made sense to look for a house/townhome/condo on the small side.

We don't need a lot of space and my mom only wants a nice kitchen ;) Well, we've been looking for a while now but nothing really jumped out at us. We even went as far as looking at apartments because we had no problem renting. 2-bedroom apts were so expensive in the area of southwest Miami (it's called Kendall). I could not see spending $1300+ a month on renting, so we kept looking.

A week ago my cousin tells me that friends of hers at work have a villa that will be vacant by January. Would I be interested in looking at it? I said sure, I've seen a ton of villas in the Kendall area and many were nice just out of our price range. Well, this one was amazing. It's on the small side, but the master bedroom is huge and it had a completed patio that is fenced in and huge! It was surprising to see that in a complex that looks like a normal apt complex. So we jumped on it and told the ladies that we would love to move in.

The current residents will be out by January 5th. She said she needed a week to clean and then we could start moving in. I'm so excited, Danny and I live at home with family now so this is a huge step for us! He's so excited but doesn't show it, lol. He's that strong silent type

So this puts a dent into our savings plan for the wedding but we have worked on our budget and figured out a way to pay for 75% of the wedding in cash. I have a nice savings and Danny has gotten a second job so we'll be ok :cloud9::goodvibes

I totally missed this before (not sure how) but congrats on moving in together!!! Can I come live with you?? The cold weather and snow are killing me! I am seriously trying to convince DF that we should move to Florida...all we need are some work permits :rotfl: I plan on moving there when I retire, so why not just start the process now! Plus, the whole reason I got into my field (urban planning) was because of a Florida planner!

Ha! I can't imagine living anywhere but FL. I love it here, the summer where it reaches 100 degrees is not my fave time of year but it beats the cold. I'm so bad that when it's 60 degrees I'm shivering and refusing to leave my house.

I'm hoping for the Napa Room because it has a low minimum for lunches and a great view. I want to keep it at the $1000 minimum but I think we'll go over because the lunch menus are all $40+ per person and with 24 adults and 5 children we go way past 1k.

girli565

So yesterday I had a phone call scheduled with Amy. We were going to discuss keeping things on budget and booking my lunch reception.

So, now we have officially booked the Napa room from 1pm-3pm on June 14, 2010! We are serving a buffet lunch that sounds so YUMMY! :woohoo: Having a bar of call because it's early and a lot of people are not drinkers. I have to look not drunk in pictures so no drinking for me ;)! We're having 4 tables of 10 but they will probably not be full of 10 people. Our final count as of right now is 24 adults, one 5 year old, and 5 children under 3. So 30 guests in total.

One question... am I supposed to feed Randy, he will be there for about 5 hours, do I get him a vendor meal?

So because I changed the wedding colors from black/red/white to black/pink/aquamarine/white I need to buy new wedding shoes.

I wanted a white shoe that I could dye once I decided what color my flowers were going to be. So once I talk to Rosie about my bouquet and we confirm a color I will send them to be dyed. I bought this shoe...
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/shoes.jpg
They're so comfy! and really pretty. They look beige in the pic but they are white, a satin white so they shine a bit.

I also am now debating what to do for my honeymoon. We weren't planning on taking one until later in the year because we didn't want to put it on a credit card. Well, my aunt found out that we weren't taking one and decided that we HAD to take one. She gave us $1000 and her stipulation was that we had to use it on a honeymoon. So now we are looking at a cruise, they are all inclusive, we live in Miami so no plane rides, and they are cost effective. So we are looking at a western caribbean cruise to Grand Cayman, Honduras, Belize, and Cozumel. It's a bit over the $1k gift but for $1500 we can have a honeymoon that is 7 days long and includes all meals. That's a deal!

That was so generous of your aunt! The cruise sounds like it will be really fun and is a really good deal too. Sometimes if you don't do it right away, you may not get the chance to later on since things always come up. I'm glad you guys will get to go after the wedding.

Exactly! I love the shoes, they look like shoes I would wear normally, and once they're dyed pink I will wear them all the time!

Cruises are so easy for us because the port of Miami is a 20 minute drive from my house, so we don't have to pay to park because my mom will pick us up. Cruising is so economical. $700/person and it includes accomodations, meals and transportation? Awesome!

So I've had my planning packet since November. I know, bad bride :(

I realized that I still had it maybe a week and a half ago. :scared1: I finally sat down with Danny and picked the songs we want to use and his cake preferences.

I had to write a lot of notes for Amy, lol, because Danny doesn't like regular cake fillings, he only eats Red Velvet and cream cheese frosting. I wanted different flowers and here's the kicker...

Danny wants to use the Star Wars theme as his entrance music :confused3:eek: I find it hilarious and kind of scary, lol. I'm hoping Amy will say it's not available.

So I was emailed by Rosie's assistant to schedule my floral appt. After a few emails back and forth due to attachment issues we finally got pictures sent in of flowers I enjoyed and set a time to call and discuss. Feb. 9th I will be making floral choices.:goodvibes

I finally got my reception contract corrected and mailed in and the deposit has been paid.

Last thing I've been thinking about was adding some appetizers to the meal. The meal already has a salad and soup on it but I think I may want to add a sushi tray (since it is Cali Grill, they have AMAZING sushi) and maybe some flatbreads. The sushi I am seriously considering but the flatbreads may not happen because it's too early in the day for them to be made. The menus all state that they have to be done after 4pm and my meal is at 1pm. I'm hoping that this could be overlooked because I would choose flatbreads over sushi any day.

What do you think?popcorn::

that's awesome you'll be deciding on your floral soon. Does Rosie's assistant make the first contact? I was wondering when I needed to start figuring out floral...

Sushi would be such a fun appetizer!!! I think if your guests would enjoy it and it's not too expensive to add it on, it would be a nice addition if it goes with the rest of your menu. I'm a huge fan of sushi - I will have to try it at Cali Grill since the DF and I have that on our ADR for the disneymoon. I'm not too sure about the flat bread but I don't know what it really is I guess. Do they serve it with hummus or a dip? If it's light, that could also work but you probably could just do one or the other.

Ohh that is exciting you have ressies at V&A's!!

Do you know if all of your guests like sushi? I personally do not like it, and I always feel bad when something is offered, or paid for for me, and I won't eat it. I would say if not everyone likes sushi, you should offer flat bread as well. I'm also a huge fan of flat bread!

So now that I have this info confirmed by my wedding planner she is having a sales person call me to discuss specifics.

I am spending at the moment about $9000 on my Escape ceremony and lunch. This is not including extras like different flowers and the added appetizers I wanted to include or taxes/service fees on the lunch. Seeing that I'm close to the now $10k minimum for weekday wedding beginning before 2pm I think I'll be changing back to a Wishes wedding. Gotta make the most of my money, right?

Amy, my planner seemed to think this was a good idea after we spoke and calculated my costs so far.:cool1: And I have to agree that it's a good idea as well. I want more flexibility and maybe some dancing at my reception so this is allowing me to have all that.

So, when I initially started the WDW Wedding planning process we were going with a Wishes wedding because the wedding was over a year away and we had a great savings plan in place that would allow us to pay for the bulk of the wedding in cash. That was with a $12k minimum expenditure. Well when the plans changed and we moved the wedding to June we knew we could not afford $12k plus taxes and service charges that would push us to close to $15k :scared1:

So we went with an Escape wedding and lunch reception, we wanted to spend $10k plus taxes and services charges because we could afford that with what we already had in savings. Then the $10,000 minimum expenditure for a Wishes wedding popped up, and the requirements fit my already planned Escape ceremony perfectly. We were having a 12pm ceremony and a 1pm reception that was just going to be a lunch and cake cutting, nothing else.

Now we will be able to have the full reception that includes dancing and all the extras that I wasn't able to have because I was an Escape bride.

We're excited and we're going to woork very hard to keep our total as close to the $10,000 as possible. I think we can do it!

I just received my contract by email so it's now official!

I think I'm most excited for a planning session. We won't get to taste the food bc California Grill doesn't do tastings but we'll get to do everything else! :cool1:

:goodvibesSo we signed the contract and Danny was mailing out today since he is off from work. :cool1:

According to the contract my $10k minimum expenditure is due Marck 16th so I guess I'll be booking my planning session soon. Thank goodness we just did our taxes and have a really nice size refund coming to both of us. It'll be the bulk of the remaining cash for us.

I'm so proud of us, even with buying a condo, moving expenses and all that we still will have close to the $10k saved and able to pay the wedding off in cash!:cheer2:

Congratulations! A Disney wedding sounds like so much fun!

I think I remember you from some of the CVS threads - I'm from Miami and I remember thinking "Cool, there's at least one other person from Miami who does this"

Have a wonderful wedding and many many many happily ever after.

P.S. Your original shoes were awesome!

So I had a phone call with Stacey this afternoon about the menu changes I was looking into for the Napa Room and we both agreed that CaliGrill would probbaly not be too keen on making those additions.

My second choice, the Whitehall Room, was booked so my next choice was Ariels. It was available!!

So our ceremony will still be at the Wedding Pavilion and then we will be going to Ariels for a cocktail hour from 1-2pm and then our reception from 2-6pm. We're happy with the changes especially now that we will be able to customize our own menu.

I think I'm most excited about that!! Danny's only request was that we serve Le Cellier's Cheddar Cheese Soup. It's summer and hot but if he wants it he'll get it

Yes, we're excited with the change! And building our own menu is such a plus.

I'm glad to hear that a small wedding is ok there, I'm worried that when it says it fits up to 80 we'll be lost in there.

This is my first post to your PJ, but I have saw a lot of your posts in other areas. I had to pop in to say that your invitations are so cute! Your designer did a great job. Ariel's is a nice spot for a small reception. When we were down for our planning session and we went for a site visit there it was being set up for a wedding that day and there were only a few tables arranged and it still looked great, not too big or overphttpowering. In fact, we almost had our reception there, but it was already booked for our wedding date and ended up at LSS instead. Now, I have to go back and start at the beginning of your PJ :goodvibes

And we paid our minimum expenditure! We'll be getting a lot of points on the credit card. I was going to pay it in cash but figured I might as well get some points for it right? My mom and I are going to LA in August so I can use points to book our hotels! Yay!

Exactly! Between wedding stuff and trips to WDW in the last year we've earned a lot of points. We like to pay most things in cash but I'd rather earn points so I charge our utilities and cell phones to earn points and just pay the card off as soon as i get the bills. It's a great way to earn free money on things you normally pay off every month!

So I have been making a list of things to discuss in my planning session. It looks much nicer in my Word document, lol.

Linens - use whats included, no upgrading & chair covers with alternating aquamarine and black sashes
Food (we're having a tasting)
Cocktail hour - fajita station
Entrees - parmesean crusted chicken & a carved to order sirlion
Side dishes - pasta action station & mashed potatoes with a toppings bar
Desserts - mickey premium bars and Wedding cake
Floral
bouquet - fuchsia gerber daisies
bouts - white gerber daisy or a white mum... not sure yet
mom's coursages - daisies or I may do roses bc it seems like such a mom flower, lol.
altar arrangments will be transferred to reception and used as centerpieces - will be made of white/ivory hydrangeas with a few aquamarine daisies throughout. They will be in small short square vases and have a black ribbon tied in a bow around them.
Sweetheart table - same as above
cake table - minimal stuff, maybe a few loose white and aquamarine daisies thrown on it.
Paper - letting disney do the table numbers and place cards. No frills here.
Favors - we are providing chocolate mickey and minnie lollipops that my mom is making and there will of course be the organza bags of almonds but they will be placed at the entrance on the place card table in a basket so people can grab their own.
Entertainment - DJ and of course Mickey and I'm hoping my budget allows for me to surprise Danny with Stitch because he LOVES him.

I think I covered everything... but please feel free to add things so I can add it to my list!

We're leaving tomorrow morning for our PS! Yay!! SO excited!

I also scheduled my appointment for my first dress fitting! April 15 we will see how much weight I've lost. I started Weight Watchers about 3 months ago and have lost weight so slooooooooooowly, I'm only down 15lbs since I started. But 3 weeks ago I started bootcamp and that has really helped jump start my weight loss again. I'm down 5lbs in just the 3 weeks since I've started camp. This guy kicks our butts 2 nights a week but it's actually fun sometimes and I have a goal in mind, all I keep saying to myself is "wedding dress, wedding dress, wedding dress" Ha!

Thanks, I'll be taking tons of pictures so I can do a mini-TR.

Yeah, the weight is frustrating but I also enjoy food too much so while it's frustrating it's also my own fault for it happening so slowly. you know :confused3 ? But bootcamp helps, all my jeans are big and even my belts don't help because I wear them on the last hole. I guess I'm losing inches more than weight.

03-24-2010, 01:36 PM
Yup, you are building lean muscle and that's the ticket. Muscle weights more than fat and it boosts your metabolism, so it is good news!

Just keep an eye on the inches and don't fret about the scale. Keep an eye on the portion size of your meals and you will be just fine.

I have lost nearly 30lbs so far following those rules :thumbsup2

Portion control is my downfall. I think that's why I like weight watchers so much. It's like a puzzle trying to figure out how much I can eat in a day on the points I'm given. But I quickly realized that making dinner at home allowed me much more food for the points than eating out so in the last month we've barely gone out to eat. I think we've only been to a restaurant once and fast food twice. That's a huge step in the right direction when we used to eat out at least 3 times a week. :)

Good morning ladies!

So yesterday I went to Patricia LeJeune's studio near downtown Orlando to have my hair and makeup trial with my mom.

First, let me say, Patricia is so freaking adorable. She's so pretty and the studio is lovely. They just recently moved there because when I first emailed she was going to come to my hotel but then I got an email asking if we could go there.

So onto the makeup and hair. I wanted waves, soft one, nothing too tightly culred and I wanted a bump but not a severe one, just something that would have a little height so when I put my mantilla veil on it won't look plastered to my head. So here's the overall look
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/1.jpg

I have two different smoky eyes, one in a plums palette and one in a brown color palette. I had wanted browns but when Patricia saw my eye color and skin color she said that she would do both and we could choose which we liked.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/2.jpg
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/3.jpg

And I'll give you a shot of the back of my hair
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/4.jpg The product she used on my hair to hold the curls made my hair soooooooooooo shiny!

And then my mom did her hair trial too because she is so picky with her hair and she was worried that she wouldn't like her hair but Patricia did a wonderful job on her hair, she made it look so full and shiny. My mom has issues with her hair because she had some medical problems that really thinned out her hair but you couldn't tell from the hair do that Patricia did for her.

You look amazing!!! I really love the way she did your eyes! I find so many brides who have her go with the natural look, so I am glad to see someone who had her do something more dramatic (since I would like the same). I think the plum makes your eyes really stand out!

Have fun with everything else!:goodvibes

We just got back from the tasting... YUM!

So much food and it was all delicious! I really don't have many pictures because it went by very quickly. I do have a pic of the fajita station and pre reception items but that's it. When I get back from the 1pm session at Franck's I will post things more in detail.

I saw you guys in the room, well I saw your DF. But then you were having a great time and laughing and my planner closed the door on your room so we could discuss the linens.

Glad to hear your tasting went well. I know, we had soooo much food too! Looking forward to hearing all about it!

How long was the planning session including the menu tasting?
Our menu tasting was from 9:30-11:30am and them we went back to our hotel and napped because we actually finished at 10:45am bc we really loved everything on our menu and only changed one thing.

Then we left our hotel at 12:30pm to get to francks at 1pm. We were there for 3 hours jut going through everything from getting hair and makeup to the end of the reception. Timeline and cake took about and hour and 20 minutes then floral came in and that took up the remainder of the time. We also talked a lot because I really liked Carol and Laura, they are AMAZING!!

girli565
03-28-2010, 12:16 AM
So I already covered Thursday's hair trial, thank you all for your kind words!

Now onto Friday...

We woke up at 7:30am and we all three (me, mom, and Danny) had to shower and get dressed... with only one bathroom. Imagine how long that took. I wished my hair would have held up but the curls were crushed from sleeping so I had to wash my hair :sad2:

We piled into the car once we were ready and drove to the Yacht Club, the guard had a list of all wedding related events going on so he saw our names and let us right in. We parked and saw our names on the entrance screen!!
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/P3260030.jpg

We head to the conference room and are greeted by someone with a headset, she asks if we need anything to drink and I ask for some coffee, mom gets orange juice and Danny some water. We have Gloria as our server and she was wonderful. Finally Carol walks in and already loves us because we are early. We get right to business and choose our napkin fold...
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/P3260032.jpg
After that we meet Chef Tony and we get right to the food.

Our pre-reception options were a fajita station and jerk chicken on a sugar cane skewer.
Here is the whole spread
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/P3260035.jpg

Here is the proteins
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/P3260036.jpg

And a close up of the fajita fixings
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/P3260037.jpg

Everything was delicious. The jerk chicken had a mango chutney with it that was perfectly spicy I wanted to bottle it up and take it home with me.

Now this is where we sucked... everything went by so quickly that the pre-reception items were all we got photos of :(

We tried cheddar cheese soup, an amazing mashed potato with prociutto (sp?), cheddar cheese, and sour cream, pepper rubbed sirloin with merlot demiglace, parm cursted chicken and two pastas one alfredo the other al la vodka. It was all amazingly good and we only really changed one thing and added another. We were done pretty quickly.

After we left we took a picture with our sign at the door to our room...
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/P3260039.jpg

We then went back to our hotel in a food coma, LMAO! we all took quick naps... well mom and Danny napped, I was on the computer, ha! At 12:30 we left to go to Franck's and hit the major details of the wedding.

We arrived at Franck's and Carol met us immediately and we got down to business. She has a list and we worked our way through that list in detail. And then it was cake time...
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/P3260043.jpg
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/P3260042.jpg
We added red velvet, cream cheese frosting and peanut butter cup frosting to the normal flavors. I had to email Carol in advance to add those. Danny is not a cake person and he ended up inhaling almost all of it. It was so yummy. Our cake will be two layers, the bottom will be red velvet with cream cheese frosting and the second layer will be marble cake with raspberry mousse. That combination was DELICIOUS! The cake itself will be square, fondant covered and mickey delight but our stamps will be black and aquamarine (teal). We were very happy that we could get the colors.

Once we worked through all those things Laura Kidd came in and we went though all the floral things we wanted. My bouquet ended up being made up of medium to fuchsia shades of hydrangeas and peonies, it'll be a bit bigger than the normal bouquet size, normal is usually 8 inches and mine will be 10 inches. I'm not a small girl so I need something that will not be lost on me. Danny's bout will be 3 small orchids wrapped in a teal ribbon. The mom's corsages will be a paler pink peony.

We talked chair covers with teal sashes in a rusched tafeta. The cocktail hour tables will be high boys with just a sprinkle of mickey confetti, not too much because people are only going to be there an hour. And our altar and later reception centerpieces will be a square ceramic black vase with an arrangement of pale pink and ivory hydrangea and 3-5 peonies sprinkled in for a pop of color. They will be low vases, maybe 16 inches high. We will have 3 on the altar and two placed on pillars right at the first pews, then they will be tranferred to the reception as centerpieces on the four tables and 1 sweetheart table.

We had a wonderful time and left Franck's at 4pm! We were all exhausted!

So Saturday was supposed to be the day we drove over to Tampa to see my aunt but she couldn't get time off and we decided we would head to Downtown Disney. We parked right by Tren-D and o course what do they have right at the register? The Dooney and Burke purses! And what does my mom surprise me with? The huge tote!
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/P3270044.jpg
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/P3270045.jpg
She's crazy and I told her to return it but she wanted to make it my wedding gift, lol! She's nuts!

Then we went to the design a tee place and I made Danny and myself groom and bride t-shirts with our date...
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/P3270001.jpg
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/P3270003.jpg
And they come in these cute bags.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c332/girli565/P3270002.jpg

And that was our PS trip. We fit a lot in two and a half days! We're exhausted.

If anyone has any questions please ask them, I know I missed some things.

Oh, the fajita station looks so awesome! I really wanted to have that for my wedding...but was out-voted. It is definitely my one regret in the planning process that I didn't stick to it, especially now seeing how nice they set it up.

Your cake flavours sound really good! I haven't had red velvet cake, but I see that starbucks sells red velvet and cream cheese cupcakes, so I am going to have to try it to see what the fuss is about!

I love your bride and groom shirts, I'm totally going to do that as soon as I get to WDW.

And the cake tasting... oh I can't wait for ours!

Your mom is so sweet!

I found an awesome tote at HS in February, it had the castle and Tink smack dab in the center on the front and Mickey and Minnie right on the center on the back, just perfect placement of the pattern.

DH kept trying to make me buy it, he said: "It is perfect! Come on! Live a little! We'll be just fine" :lmao:

But I couldn't get myself to do it, instead I pointed it out to another lady that was browsing around them and let her have it instead, she was so happy it made my day.

I already have a wristlet and I am happy with it, I just don't think I would use the tote as much... now if my mom bought it for me I'd say yesss!

I just got my floral BEO in and it's a lot lower than I thought it would be. It'll be going down because she has the mothers getting nosegay bouquets and they're supposed to be getting coursages. and I will not be bringing my own aisle runner so the set up fee will be taken off too. And our guest count has gone down so we'll need less ribbon wands.
