THIS SWAP IS OPEN TO ALL SWAPPERS. NEWCOMERS ARE WELCOME AS ALWAYS. If you are new to swapping on the DISboards, please limit yourself to 2 groups.

Due date is September 15 (that is when I need to receive your package). Please mail packages out by September 8.

Check in Dates:
July 22
August 18 (last call for angels*)
September 1

*You must check in by the August 18 date. If not, I will send a PM/Email and if you don’t respond within 2 days, your spot will be angeled.

Instructions:
Choose your resort and an element that has not been picked. When choosing elements try not to choose the same element at more than 3 resorts to give everyone a chance to choose the different elements- if they are still open on the weekend then you are welcome to add more of the same element. Please note the color scheme for the resort. The last resort swap was run this way last time and it worked out very well to have all the items coordinate with each other within a group. I have mostly kept the colors the same as last year, with a few minor tweaks. For this swap, Bazzill cardstock is NOT required, but I have included some suggested colors for those who would like to use it. You are welcome to use patterned papers that go with the color scheme also.

There will be a max of 10 swappers per group. I will open 2nd groups for the more popular resorts. If a group has at least 2 people, I will include it. Please wait for the swap to close to note how many items you will make for each group. The numbers will vary from group to group

Once sign ups close, if your name is not highlighted, please PM me with your DIS name, name, home address, email address, and phone numbers. Email and phone numbers will only be used to follow up if I have not heard from you.

PM me if you have problems and need to drop out or if an emergency happens (we all know things happen beyond our control sometimes), let me know so we can make arrangements for an angel or other help if needed.

Packaging Instructions
Place your completed elements in a Ziploc bag with your DIS name, name and group number. Place all your baggies for a group in a GALLON size bag, and label with the same. Please use a gallon bag – even if your pieces are smaller and may not require it, the pieces you will be getting back may be bigger.

Postage:
Please include cash, check or stamps (No Click-it/ship-it postage). If you are in less than 4 groups, include $4.95 for the priority envelopes. If you are in 4 or more groups, please include $10.35 for the priority box. If you would like delivery confirmation on your returned swap, also include the $0.65 and a filled out slip.

HAVE FUN AND BE CREATIVE!!

Element Selection:

For this swap, the elements must be embellished at least once.

Suggestions for embellishments include:
Die cuts, stickers, stickles, flock, ink, chalk, brads, charms, flowers, eyelets, ribbon/fiber, sewing, tearing, embossing, stamping, clipart, additional layers of paper beyond double mats (if it would look weird trying to fit in another embellishment, specialty paper (such as embossed, glitter, Bling).

If you can think of no way to embellish your item, without it looking weird, you can provide an embellishment not attached to your item, such as a Cricut icon cutout, or a set of 4 brads/eyelets, a yard of ribbon/fiber, etc.

Note: Please no handwritten items.

In general, please follow the “hopemax” guidelines for quality – Do you love it? Are you proud of it? Would you use it in your book? If you can answer yes to those 3 questions, you should be fine.

Choose ONE element from the following list:

- Signage/ Topper: should be the name of the resort, does not have to be traditional 2x8 – other sizes/orientation acceptable also, double matted.

- 2 Journaling Boxes: at least a 3x3 writing area, double matted

- 2 Tags: no smaller than 2 x 3 and larger is fine, double matted, (do not have to be typical tag shape)

- Box and Tag: 1 each of journal box and tag, described as above

- Library Pocket and Tag: no smaller than to hold a 2x3 tag

- 2 Slide Mounts

- File Folder: (2 per person if mini-sized)

- Matchbook: Include a blank page inside

- Shaker Box

- Paper Piecing

- License Plate

- 1 matted song/lyric/poem/quote/wordle: double matted, minimum text area 3x3

- 3 Altered Paper Clips

- 4 Embellished Shapes: at least 1 ½ by 1 ½ inches each, double matted (unless double matting is not feasible for the shape – use your judgement)

- 2 Borders: 12 inches long, double matted

- 2 Photo Frames--for a 4 x 6 photo (Sizzix frames okay), double matted

- 2 Photo mats: double matted, sized to fit a 4x6 photo

- ATC

- Altered CD

The Halloween Party was going to be going on at the time I wanted to go between 10/2-10/9.

Halloween is when my son's dad died in 2007. He is coincedentally out of school the Friday before and gets out a half day that Thursday.

But if we did it around the 5th - it would be my 45th birthday. Maybe I can use that angle with DH - it would mean a 75 dollar gift card for us since we have APs and that would be a nice dinner. HMMMMMMM

I'm sorry about your son's dad...That must be very difficult for him!

I looked online, it looks like the Halloween party is the 6th, so go for it! 2009 dates (http://www.wdwinfo.com/holidays/halloween.htm). I'm still working DH about going this year, but I have a feeling it'll be a cruise in 2010 (which I'm dying to start planning!), over Halloween.

I think I have everything up to date - please double check me just in case.

I will leave signups open through the weekend and close it out on Monday. I may join a few more groups myself at that time - I covet everything from this swap and truly want to join every group, even if I've never been to the resort!

Oct 2-8 are our dates for WDW too - also going to MNSSHP on the 6th, and celebrating my bday while we're there. I keep forgetting we share the same birthday, Susie!

I have a quick question about the file folders. When you say mini, do you mean the kind that you punch out or do you mean the smaller sized sizzix? The sizzix comes in two sizes. A complete one that you can fold and a larger one that you have to fold the paper first and then doctor up the front of it. Just wanted to know so I can plan on which die to use.

I'd like Yatch Club, file folder.

While we don't have a trip for the 2-8 or so I would love to get together with people on Tuesday the 6th if they are available. I have an AP so which park(s) don't matter but Tues is when DH drives to Orlando in the fall.

Wow, there are a lot of people going to WDW the first week of Oct!! I have reservations for the previous weekend Sept 24 to 28, but that may have to be canceled due to my pup's shoulder injury. We'll see.

I may consider joining a couple of groups like Swan / Dolphin and Shades of Green that only have one person now. Those are the only groups I don't have tons of swap items already. I met Rebecca at Shades of Green last Dec. and have some photos (plus old ones when it was Disney Inn a thousand years ago) and of course tons of Swan / Dolphin where I've stayed several times.

SIOH, I absolutely love Kidani Village and their new restaurant is my new WDW favorite restaurant with such unique and delicious food and the very best service, by far, of any restuarant in the whole world!! In fact, all 3 AKL sit-down restaurants are my WDW favs. Can you tell I have no food in the house for breakfast?! No time to shop either...LOL!!

I didn't eat at Boma on honeymoon but when we stayed 1 night at AKL I found a pack of Zebra Domes in the fridge at the counter service place, think they were from Boma the previous night. I just had to try them after all the raving on the DIS and wow, they were amazing! I'd go back to visit AKL just to get another pack!

I just had to try them after all the raving on the DIS and wow, they were amazing! I'd go back to visit AKL just to get another pack!

Oh, I love those, too!!! Chicken Pepper Pot soup is my absolute favorite thing there, and sometimes, they have it at Mara, too. I eat it every chance I can find it!!

:sad2::sad2::sad2::mad::mad::mad:where is a stamping one's foot smiley when you need it!!! My dates would have been Oct 3-10th if my boss had approved my vacation. All of the stars had aligned - free dining, f&w, our anniversary, Better than Ezra (one of our favorite bands) performing, and cheap flights. But, alas, the boss vetoed the vacation time. So instead - and I know I shouldn't complain too much - I will be a DL/DCA staying in the new Grand Californian Villas from Nov 30th to Dec 5. We get there right after turkey day (once everyone has gone home!) and leave on Friday before all of the weekend folks arrive. :D Guess I should have joined the DL/DCA swap!

Did you go to Sanaa? I'm so jealous! I can't decide whether to try it in Oct or wait one more trip ('til DS is a little older). And y'all know how I feel about Boma!!! It's my very favoritest!!

Yes, celebrated my birthday at Sanaa! It was fabulous! The food and the service are wonderful! If you're a hamburger person or steak and potato person, you won't like it though. I like anything different since I can get regular food at home. Vacations are meant to try different experiences.

Being a family destination, Disney has children's menus everywhere, though the regular entrees are definately for adult palates. There were young children there, but not a lot. I loved the decor, too! Sanaa, Jiko, and Boma are my favorites!

Whew - multiquote is getting a workout with this post!

First, Swap related:

I have a quick question about the file folders. When you say mini, do you mean the kind that you punch out or do you mean the smaller sized sizzix? The sizzix comes in two sizes. A complete one that you can fold and a larger one that you have to fold the paper first and then doctor up the front of it. Just wanted to know so I can plan on which die to use.

I'd like Yatch Club, file folder.

Well, that's a good question. I copied that from previous swaps and I've often wondered that myself which is why I haven't used my Sizzix die in a long time. I think the smaller Sizzix die is fine for making just one - I think the needing 2 would be the ones that come from a hand-held punch.

Do you think you could let it go just a touch longer. I get home on Tuesday evening, and I was hoping to be able to go through my stash and check my cricut stuff, because I might also sign up for a few more groups.

No problem - I'll leave it open until you tell me you're done signing up!

Can I have

P. Wilderness Lodge
2 Borders

How Wide are they to be?

I would say about 2 inches, give or take a bit either way.

I hope you do decide to join at least a few groups!

Then, Trip-related:
While we don't have a trip for the 2-8 or so I would love to get together with people on Tuesday the 6th if they are available. I have an AP so which park(s) don't matter but Tues is when DH drives to Orlando in the fall.

Rebecca

I don't know all my plans for the week yet, but I know that day because MNSSHP is that night - I'm pretty sure we'll be doing AK in the morning, Tusker House for lunch, and an easy afternoon. I'm definitely up for a mini-DIS meet at some point that day!

:sad2::sad2::sad2::mad::mad::mad:where is a stamping one's foot smiley when you need it!!! My dates would have been Oct 3-10th if my boss had approved my vacation. Yeah, no whining from you - it's a very close race between which is the more desirable trip!

See, we keep going back and forth on Sanaa. Initially I was really excited about it, but when the menu came out I was underwhelmed. We love Indian food and eat it all the time and I moved beyond tandoori chicken and chicken curry a long time ago. The bread service appetizer sounds like reason enough to go, but none of the entrees get me excited. What did you order?

NEE, I had the Indian Bread Service and was really full after that, but I had also ordered the Tandoori Chicken, which I was kind of hedging on. The bread service was great!!! If I were doing it again, I would have probably ordered another appetizer along with the bread service. I find you usually get more unique offerings and varying tastes with appetizers.

Desert was the chocalate cake!

I thought the same as you when I saw the menu, but that bread service was really worth it. I would have liked to have had the Samosas, too, but I had those at Jiko which was delicious!

When I picked the original colors (last month), I was going off my swatches and I had checked that they were all in stock at www.acherryontop.com, but I didn't actually order any of them, so they may have been updated to be discontinued since that time. I don't know of a way to find out which ones are discontinued - maybe someone more familiar with Bazzill might know? I don't know. Can I get some other opinions on that one? I don't really think of green when I think of that resort, although for sure there is greenery on the savannahs, but not so much like jungle leaves. Think of the Kilimanjaro safaris - would what you have in mind work for that? If so, go with it.

It is more of a thatch roof feel than jungle leaf.
Think masks from My World feel.
Or jungle ANIMAL feel.

There are leaves, but they are more spikey than the rounded Hawaiian type leaves.

I would assume that they have a shank, because it says "Add these wonderful embellishments to clothing apparel, home decor projects, paper crafts and more", and since there are no button holes, I would think that is how you would be able to put them on clothing. If they have a shank, you can usually cut them off.

They're very cute... and I agree, they look like they have shanks. I had some buttons that I pop-squared around the shank so that I didn't have to cut them off, but if they're plastic, I usually snip it off.

Well -- would it too much repetition for me to use them too? I haven't ordered them yet.

And does the whole shank come off so that the back is flat, or are you left with trying to adhere a kind of bumpy object?

AlexWyattMommy

I use these really cool wire cutters that were meant for jewelry, smaller blades.
If you hold the flatter side to the button back, they do usually cut off cleanly.
If not, glue dots work well with the little bit I've had left over.
It goes quickly. 40 would take 10 minutes, tops.

No, the buttons I have are different than the ones you posted.

AWM said it exactly right about the bumpiness. The wire cutters I use are jewelry ones too and I use glue dots to adhere them either way so it doesn't matter if there are a few bumps. I agree with her about the time too. Very quick.

A second title/topper option sounds good to me.

Question for this Group

Group IA - Animal Kingdom Lodge Group 2 - MAKE 10
1. velrox - borders
2. AWM - photo mats
3. NEE - license plate
4. ZeroToHero - Box and Tag
5. SusieStone - paper piecing
6. SIOH - topper
7. 123SA - shapes
8. hopemax - flocked animals
9. Michellepooh - journal boxes
10. kkbeaton2 - shaker box

What do you think about a title welded and double shadowed in SCAL that reads "Savannah"? In place of the shapes, that is. I'd use the DCWV safari stack. I checked with our hostess who suggested I put it to a majority vote.

Sounds good to me!

Checking in... didn't know I had to help YOU.... (just kidding, please still feed me dinner tonight...)

Anyway, I've finished the AKL shaker box (I changed it from a lyric inside to just "AKL", so Susie, you can do whatever lyrics you want without us having the same one), but that's all I've actually finished.

I have ideas for the other things, and supplies purchased. I had to go online to find some pictures for SCAL, so that took a while to get good ones. I am on track though. I hope to have this finished before I leave, so I can get you back your cartridge.

Topper is fine since there isn't one in that group. Let me know if you for sure wanted to change it and I'll change the list on the first page.

Your plans for the other groups sound good. I don't know what the HM frame is like for the ASMo group, but I think as long as it's a nice frame, the size isn't crucial. The Sizzix frames have never been true for 4x6 and we've gone with them.

It's "Sure Cuts A Lot", and you can download it from a bunch of different websites - shop around for the best price, we got it for about 50$? But they just came out with a new version, which I think is more expensive. We'll be upgrading though - it sounds a lot better.

It lets you hook your Cricut up to your computer, and you can cut out different fonts and pictures, etc, so you're not just limited to carts. It's hard to learn at first (if you want to do pictures, you need to download a free program called "Inkscape" too.), but once you get the hang of it, it's really neat!

It is like Design Studio, but you can use any font on your computer with it (some weld better than others though). You can also cut all kinds of shapes. The Latte card I did for the card swap was a file that I cut with my Cricut using SCAL. I really like the versatility of the program (and being able to cut whatever I want). I think it's a good investment, and since the new version just came out, you would have a year or more before a third version comes out and you'd have to think about upgrading.

Unlike us, where we got it less than a month before the upgrade came out.... :headache:

Oh well. It works when we need it to - and makes swaps easier, instead of having to stick down over 100 individual letters to shadows and shadows to pages. (Too bad I didn't find out about it until after the ABC swap!) :rotfl:

Z2H and MM2000 - thanks for the info. I LOVE my Cricut. I have the first one that came out and haven't upgraded to the expression ---yet:rolleyes1

I've been mulling over the Cricut Design Studio, but it sounds like SCAL is better - being able to use any font or design you can find online. Have I got that right?

How easy is SCAL to learn? I'm very computer savvy and pick up on most programs without really having to read the instructions. The one program that I wasn't able to get the hang of - even after buying an $50 book of instructions was PhotoShop Elements.

How long did it take you to figure out SCAL?

morgansmom2000
07-30-2009, 10:51 AM
I've had the program since April, I consider myself computer savvy, and I am still learning. You can download a free trial and test it out. It uses SVGs, which are edited with a program called Inkscape, a free downloadable program.

There are TONS of tutorials out there, and I really like the program, it just takes a little time to get the "steps" down.

That stinks about the ACOT order, Susie - do you not have the swatches? I did, so it wasn't a problem for me, but that is lousy.

Sorry you had a bad swapping day. If it makes you feel any better, I was doing this WAY too late at night (should have known better) and ruined 2 sheets of Bazzill and one of my Cricut markers (one that I *needed*) because I wasn't paying close enough attention to what I was doing and trying to do too much at once.

2 lessons learned when dealing with Cricut markers:
1. Don't forget to change the pressure back to normal after you switch from marker back to blade. Had a lovely time cutting air the first time around. :headache:
2. Don't forget to actually PUT THE BLADE BACK IN after changing the pressure back. You will completely ruin your marker if you use it with maximum pressure. :headache: What an idiot I am.

Needless to say, those pieces are now on hold waiting for me to pick up a new set of markers and will be done when I am fully energized and not trying to multi-task.

On another note - I have 4 groups done now. Plugging along.

I am hoping to get these done by the middle of next week, because I was thinking I could maybe send them to MichellePooh with the Cruise Swap and she could hand them off to you sometime in the next month?

And a kudos to Stampendous the makers of Fun Flock. I ordered some flock from their website yesterday, for flocking giraffes and I got it TODAY!

Here's the prototype for my Group Q Yacht Club paper piecing (thanks to Z2H for her Inkscape tutorials!!!) I'll turn my little bundle over to you on Friday, NEE - thank heavens I'm only in one group! I didn't attach the flag poles to the roofs - folks can do that themselves - so they'll fit in my ziplocks. When attached, the entire piece is 11 inches high.

You will be getting mine tonight - my mom is bringing them to the crop. I spent a while packaging them all up the other day, and put them in a priority box, but didn't close it. You can write my name on it or something, so that you have something to sort into, if you want. And if you seal it so that nothing falls out until you see me again, that's fine (it'd be like getting mail to open!)

Your cartridge is in there too - thank you for letting me use it!

This Tuesday is the 2nd check in, and the last call for angels. If you haven't done so over the past week or so, please check in with your progress. If you think you will have difficulty finishing in time, please speak up and ask for an angel. I have a trip scheduled shortly after the due date, so I will need to keep firm to that deadline to make sure this is wrapped up before then.

Thanks to all who have checked in recently!

For my own progress, I am more than halfway done. I did a ton of work at my crop Friday night and I hope to finish over the next couple of weeks.

It was so great to see you the other night at the crop! You were a busy bee - we didn't even get much of chance to chat and catch up with each other! Thanks for taking all Z2Hs and my swap stuff - and I hope you enjoy the spools of ribbon. I thought they were pretty cute and hope that you can use them somewhere...see you later!

It was good to see you too! I was a busy bee with my 10 zillion groups for this swap! We have to find a better seating configuration for the crop because my back is always to you. Thanks for the ribbon! I didn't open all the baggies yet, just took a peek at the stuff through the plastic, but what I saw looks terrific!

Progress update - I am on track to complete these. I plan on

Completed
A- All Star Music
B. All Star Sports:
C. All Star Movies:

To Do:
D. Pop Century: Teal, Purple, and any bright colors (the place is full of them and they are all mixed together)- MAKE 4 - topper
Suggested Bazzill Colors: Patina, African Violet, same colors for All Stars - use your judgement

G. Port Orleans French Quarter: Kelly Green, Black, Yellow, Purple - MAKE 3 - license plateI am really not liking the license plate idea now. I think it will say Mardi Gras
Suggested Bazzill Colors: Grass Green, Raven, Sunshine, African Violet

H. Port Orleans Riverside: Maroon, Light Yellow, Slate blue, Light Green - MAKE 4 - journal boxes
Suggested Bazzill Colors: Barkley, Chiffon, Skyline, Midge

I. Animal Kingdom Lodge: Browns, Dark Greens, Tan - MAKE 10 -matted quote/lyric/etcQueenie sent a PM about changing spots with her but then that would give me another paper piecing group. I checked and there are some people that are in both groups so I don't think that they want 2 african masks and I don't know of another paper pieicng on the cricut carts I could do....Does anyone have any suggestions? I also have to watch how much paper it could take. COLOR]
Suggested Bazzill Colors: Mud Pie, Mocha Divine, Cinnabar, Aspen, Ivy, Cahshmere

Group IA - Animal Kingdom Lodge Group 2 - MAKE 10 - paper piecingI plan to use the masks from the my world cart.

J. Beach Club: Ocean Blue, Peach, Light and Medium Green - MAKE 4 - shapes
Suggested Bazzill Colors: Dragonfly, Just Peach, Midge, Katydid.I was thinking of seashell shapes. Anyone have any better ideas?

K. Contemporary: Maroon, Golden Yellow, and light yellow - MAKE 5 - title lettersSelf explanatory
Suggested Bazzill Colors: Barkley, Amber, Chiffon

M. Grand Floridian: Metallic Gold, Bright Yellow, Dark Red (think the roof), Ivory - MAKE 6 - matchbookWould the people int he group rather have something besides matchbooks?
Suggested Bazzill Colors: Starburst (metallic), Desert Marigold, Barkley, Sugar Cookie

N. Polynesian: Jungle Green, Brown, Red, Orange - MAKE 8 - slide mounts
Suggested Bazzill Colors: Patch, Mocha Divine, Bazzill Red, Rio de Janeiro

P. Wilderness Lodge: Dark Brown, Dark Green, Slate Blue - MAKE 7 - paper piecing was going to do a stand of trees like I did for the Sports and more swap but there isn't enought color variation in the group colors to be able to do that.
Suggested Bazzill Colors: Mud Pie, Aspen, Skyline

R. Boardwalk: white, metalic gold, royal blue, light blue - MAKE 4 - topper
Suggested Bazzill Colors: Avalanche, Starburst (metallic), Mediterranean, Kevin

S. Old Key West: Light Pink, Mint, Peach, Light Blue - MAKE 4 - shapes
Suggested Bazzill Colors: Petalsoft, Midge, Just Peachy, Kevin I wanted to do life rings or life guard chair but that would be differnt colors than what is listed so I need to think of some shapes to do. Maybe some conch shells.

T. Saratoga Springs: Medium Green, Yellow, Peach - MAKE 6 - photo mats
Suggested Bazzill Colors: Patch, Pollen, Bluff layered and sewedI accidently cut up all my pollen so I don't know what I am going to do with this group now. I didn't order any Pollen[COLOR="red"] either......

Do you have any raffita? That fake straw stuff? You could make your masks in different colors and one could have the raffita sticking out around it in short pieces and the other one could have longer pieces just coming off the top.

You could use inks to change the tones for the stand of trees. I cheated and used some Ivy with the Aspen for the trees on my photo mats.

See above.

You could always do a few different animals from the AK cartridge. Those wouldn't be color specific either so you wouldn't have to worry about rationing your Bazzill.

Thanks! Those shaker boxes turned out to be QUITE a pain! Those itty bitty Mickey heads are not done on the Cricut, becuase it distorts the head when done very tiny like that, so that is done from a punch I got at Disneyland. My, was I tired after punching enough for 12 shaker boxes (had to do 1 for dd, and 1 for friend)! I'm glad that someone else can see the railing in those tags!

Wish I was in the SSR group now, those are adorable! Next year... I'll have stuff to scrap from it still, I'm sure.
