Well I am bummed. I had an interview for a pt job last night and I was there for all of 2 minutes. It's funny I used to work there (for 2 years) and as I walked by several of the cashier's said "Vanessa, are you coming back?" Well, the front end supervisor asked my availability and said "oh well, we ask that part timers give us one full day a week of open flexability" (ability to schedule anywhere from open to close). "call HR back when you can work that out". I was flabbergasted. Really. I had my choice of schedule when I was there and when I put my notice in they begged me to stay one day a week which I did for a while.
I was pretty upset about it, I mean, I filled out my application online putting in my availability. Obviously they did not look before they called me. I called HR this morning and spoke with a rep that actually used to work here, she seems to think it isn't an issue and going to have the head guy call me back.
Not sure why it bugs me so....:confused3

John, we are more excited for her parents than anything else. This is the family who's son died last year while sleeping next to his mother. She has severe MS and my Uncle has been just a shell of himself since Brad died. It is wonderful to see them so happy! When she won Miss Utah, we were there and my Uncle, who is a corporate real estate attorney, just had tears rolling down his face. They need a good thing.

Quiet this week. Dennis is working 10 hr days, 5 days with an hour drive each way. Not much time to sit in the RV. We did enjoy the one night this weekend with my momma. We are planning our first big outing March 24-31. We will be RVing up to Montana, taking DGS17 and a couple of his buddies to visit the University of Montana admissions. Last night his best friend Sam (Samantha, not a girlfriend! ;) ) and her mom came over and they are going to go with us too! :woohoo: We love Sam and her mom is alot of fun. The plan is for Sam to ride with us and the boys and her mom and a friend to follow in a car. Her mom is just in the midst of a divorce and Sam's boyfriend just broke her heart :sad1: so the diversion will be good for both of them.

I am glad to be home...but very tired. Being a peace keeper yesterday was exhausting! :( The time change just made it worst. The kids had a ball playing with their friends Saturday & Sunday. We took the early train from Fburg into DC Monday...Arlington, lunch at the A&S museum then DS, SIL, & I went to the National Gallery for 2 hours while DD, DH, BIL & his 2 DSs did the A&SM. We walked down the mall to the WM & the WW2 memorial before returning to the train station. Rode home on a train that lost lights so they handed out light sticks to the kids. OY! Tuesday was another early day. It was good to see some family but I ended up being the one pushing people to behave...then take group pictures with all the GKs & GGKs after the service. I am really glad to be home.
I haven't gone to see the monster thread yet. OY!!! Kids have homework & classwork to catch up on. UGH!
lbgraves
03-14-2007, 07:51 PM
OK, get this...today on the noon news report I heard something that sent my BP up. The legislature is considering a new bill that would return the school calendar to the way it use to be...starting with the 2008-2009 school year. That totally screws us for either of the repos! Sorry but I have had it with politicians not considering how their decisions affect real lives. :headache:
No, we would not be able to do the May...for one no rooms at the moment...because they probably wouldn't make the decision until 11/07...only 6 months before the May repo. So....if that happens...I will withdraw the kids after they get out of school in 6/08 and sign up to homeschool them the next year...at least until we return from the cruise. I would then enroll them in school. I would start working with them in June to be sure that we would cover enough days for the 3 weeks we will be gone.

Aww come on Lisa...It could be worse....
Dh was in DC today...He got on the MARC train to come home at 5:30 at Union Station. (SHould've been about 1 hr - 1.5 hr trip)
Got to near Rockville. Bomb scare on Amtrak DC to Chicago train in front of them so they sat there for hours..... Turned out to be misplaced luggage or something like that..
It's almost 9:45 and he's still not home...
THis better be billable time.
lbgraves
03-14-2007, 09:48 PM

Marielle....would you mind sharing the recipe?
I got the recipe from the cake mix box, but it's good!
Peppermint Pattie Poke Cake
Cake:
1 box Betty Crocker SuperMoist triple chocolate fudge cake mix
Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for in cake mix directions
Filling:
1 box (4 oz. serving size) White Chocolate instant pudding and pie mix
2 cups Milk
1/2 teaspoon Peppermint Extract
Frosting:
1/2 teaspoon Peppermint Extract
1 container of Betty Crocker Whipped Milk Chocolate Frosting
3/4 cup coarsely chopped Chocolate Covered Peppermint Patties (8 candies)
Heat oven to 350º. Make cake as directed on package for 9 x 13 pan; cool 15 minutes. Poke top of warm cake every 1/4 inch with handle of wooden spoon
In Medium bowl, beat filling ingredients with wire whisk about 2 minutes. Immediately pour filling evenly into holes in cake. Cover loosely and refrigerate about 2 hours until chilled.
Stir 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract into frosting. Spread frosting over cake top. Sprinkle with the peppermint patties. Store in the refrigerator.

When you can feel that your blood pressure is up, then it is really up. :scared1: So I drove them out to him, about a 45 min drive each way but it is out thru the countryside on two lane roads and the weather was picture perfect! It was a very pleasant drive. While I was at the store (he's working at WM today) I did a little more MH shopping. Among other things, I bought us each a really nice journal. His is black and mine is burgandy. Leather looking covers, although I am certain they are not real leather. Very nice though. I thought it would be fun for us to journal on our trips in the MH. There are so many things each day that just happen and then you don't think about them or remember. I already did an entry in mine from our trip last weekend with my mom. I can't wait for Dennis to get home so I can show them to him. I know he is gonna love them too, because he us just a much a geek as I am. ;)

Good Morning Geeks! :) Well maybe Good Afternoon by now but you know what I mean. ;) I am so jealous that all of you are getting together again this December. We are just going to miss some of you by a few days. :sad2:
Things here have been busy. I guess I have a bit of spring fever (although it was SNOWING when I woke up .... What the heck is that about!!!! :sad2:) because when I woke up I started cleaning and doing laundry and then I started baking. I have some banana bread and brownies in the oven right now. The brownies are the special ones I make for Nathan that he loves and the banana bread is a test recipe. I tried to modify it for Nathan so we will see how it turns out. It smells like chocolate bananas here. :rotfl:
Nathan has a birthday party to go to tomorrow evening at The Little Gym and other than that our weekend is pretty free. I am going to make a new salmon dish tonight for dinner called Maple Salmon. You marinate the fish in maple syrup and some other stuff before baking...it sounds interesting.
I hope everyone is doing well. :)

Oh I almost forgot to tell you about DH. DH has his own food allergies (nuts, peas, soy and beans) and has had them since he was a kid. Since DS was getting all this testing done DH decided it might be time to get some more testing done since the last time he was about Nathan's age. He went in Thursday and the results were interesting.
They tested him for around 40 environmental allergens (trees, grasses, animals, molds, etc..) and he tested positive for 39 of them! :scared1: The only thing he didn't test positive for was some mold mix although I figure it must have been a bad batch.
They then tested him for 24 food allergens and he was allergic to all 24 of them!!! :faint: Can you believe that? He was allergic to EVERYTHING!!! Every fruit, grain, meat, nut, vegetable, milk, dairy, soy, etc. they had! :scared: :scared1:
When DH called me up to tell me I just had to :rotfl: and call him Bubble Boy because it was better than crying. I can't believe he is allergic to all of that. The allergist is going to have him start weekly allergy shots for the environmental allergies. He actually will have to have 2 shots a week because they can't get that much "stuff" in 1 shot alone. :sad2: As for the food allergies well actually there is not a lot they can do. He can't stop eating so he basically needs to continue to do what he has done in the past. Eliminate those things that bother him the most and try not to each too much of any one thing. He just needs a really varied diet and try to cut back on the things he was most allergic to. Some of his top offenders were soy, chocolate, black pepper, garlic and rice. :faint:
I told DH that I was sorry but I couldn't deal with cooking all separate meals for everyone. I am having a hard enough time cooking for DS's allergies. He told me that is fine. He is a big boy and he can eat or not eat what he feels is right for him.

If SWA or AirTran have a CHEAP fare we might fly. Then we'll be in early on Thursday. :)

Raymar Morgan, from MSU went to the High School I graduated from . . .
Our team (where I am on the school board) won our region tonight, and we are now in the State Division I final four. We are cancelling school on Friday (day of the first game at 5:15 - they will add a day on in June) which works for us, since now we don't have to call Sophia off school when we leave for Orlando!

DrHug and I decided it was weed and blackberry spraying day. I had just gotten started when I stepped in a hole in the yard, fell with a 5 gallon sprayer on my back and sprained my ankle. :sad2: What a klutz! Darn gophers! The sprain is not too bad. Hurt like the dickens for a while, but after some ice and some tylenol I am now able to hobble on it. I did have one of those amazing boots they give you for really bad sprains (from a few years ago when I did a real job on both ankles!:headache: ) and I put it on so I could manage to help Dennis finish up.

I know, PJ. Actually we are heading over to the coast tomorrow afternoon. We will have a little playtime then Dennis will work 9-7 each day. I will be able to nurse my foot while he works. He wants to spend a little time at the casino nearby one evening also. He can just sit me on a stool in front of a slot machine I guess. :lmao: I think it is not going to be too bad. It hurts when I put weight on it, but not enough to make me stop, just enough to make me limp.:sad2:

Thanks for all the birthday wishes for Autumn. She is improving everyday. She is now able to sit by herself and yesterday she walked about 20 feet with just holding my hands. They thought it would be months till she walked again. The last 3 days she has managed to eat enough so I did not have to feed her through her tube. She is smiling and laughing again.

Jill, thank you for updating us. Glad she is improving, we will keep praying.
I have just a walnut size swelling right in from of my outside ankle bone, so I think it was not too bad. It is my driving foot, but I will be able to manage. I am limping around this morning and doing ok, I just can't walk straight up and down stairs, I have to turn my foot to the side and do the one step hobble up and down. :sad2:

You know, I know we are a very special group...but it's funny how this site brought us all together. Sure I can talk a great game on the net and all...but I find it so fantastic that we got to meet people that we WANT to see, spend time with, talk to, etc again....how often do you get that?
What's even better is my dear Johnny...he doesn't post, doesn't visit - I have to fill him in....(poor thing, not sure he could get here if this wasn't saved in favorites....ok, don't tell him I said that!!)...but he is alwyas asking about what's going on with who...and wanting to know if any of the "who's" are coming to WDW anytime soon.
Anyway ---- just want to thank you guys, just knowing that I have a "place" makes me feel good!!

Maybe it can be used later for negotiations. The Ipod is great like that for DS. He got 1 hour of ipod time for standing still & smiling for pictures at the service. It handled quite well on the curves and he stayed right at speed limit on the inclines. Good job, Dennis! Now he is at work and I have a whole day to relax. I brought two books with me. I have not sat down and read a book in ages. I brought The Street Lawyer by Grisham. Dennis said he thinks I will like it, BUT just incase I can't get into it, I also brought One Soldiers Story by Bob Dole. I LOVE Bob Dole! I got to meet him once at the VA. I even got to put a pin on his lapel and got my photo taken with him! It rained all night, still raining...but it's Orygun what did I expect?? We did not sleep real well since the rain on the roof of our home on wheels is very different that in a real house. It will take a little bit to get used to the different sounds at night. Of couse, the fact that I "ouched" with my ankle everytime I turned over did not help either. :sad2: It was actually getting much better, then I twisted it just a little getting into bed and OUCH! again. I'll rest it today though and it will be better.
Breakfast is made, dishes are done and put away. Now I just need to make the bed and shower and I'm done until dinner time. Dennis gets off at 7 and is less than 10 min away so we are thinking we will run over to the casino, even closer than the store, after dinner and donate 20 bucks to the local tribe. :rolleyes1 We played Skip-Bo after dinner last night, he won first game and I won the second. :thumbsup2

We feel deprived now, but I remember when that was always our only choices.:rotfl2: We will check out the casino tonight when I pick him up, it is right by the store where he is working. Will see if they will take a $20 donation from each of us. :rotfl: :lmao:

Hi guys,
It's been a long couple of days . . .
Yesterday I got a call when dad was at physical therapy that he had passed out and they called 911. I got to the hospital, and he was not well, his legs were swollen and he looked ill.
Three hours later, we found out he had a clot in each leg, a low blood count, and fluid around his heart. They admitted him to the hospital. So I spent a good part of the day and the evening at the hospital.
You may recall that mom went into the hospital right before we were to leave for the cruise, and now dad has landed in the hospital and we are to leave for Florida on Friday.
Today things looked much better, and he is in good spirits. They gave him two units of blood, and medication to clear and disolve the clots. The doctor said that other than what he came to the hospital for, for an almost 85 year old man, he is in fairly good health. If the clots get resolved and they do not find any other issues, he could come home in a few days.
Oh, and Brack, close but no cigar on the 10,000 post on the WB thread!

I picked Dennis up at 7 last night and we went directly to the casino. We had dinner there. They have a restaurant that looks out at the ocean, it was just at sunset, the waves were pretty big, the weather had just cleared enough so that there was some blue sky along with the clouds. It was beautiful and dinner was amazing! I had coconut/rum shrimp and Dennis had sauted scallops....we shared. Every piece of dinner was perfect, the roasted potatoes, the grilled veggies, and the presentation. It was so good that I sent a 10% tip to the chef. I have only done that a few times, but it was that good!
The Siletz Tribe is $90 richer now also! Fun evening though. I only lost $10, so that tells you the luck DrHug had with his slots!
Today the weather has cleared. The sun has shone all day. I took a walk around the park this morning and realized I should have taken Dennis' camera...so I came back to the MH, got the camera and did the walk again. The lake here is quite pretty, it was very quiet with only one man and a child fishing today. The whole park is silent since it is off season here on the coast. Only us old folks in RVs here. Lovely, lovely days for me this week, but alas...back to work tomorrow. BUT the good news is that I just work one day and then I am off Friday thru next week for our trek to Montana with DGS and his buddies.

Lisa, Angie, and everyone else, thanks for your kind words and prayers. They will continue to run tests on dad the next few days to determine the cause of the low blood count. There is a concern for possible tumors. He is under good care though, and his spirits and color were even better today. We plan on keeping our trip plans intact. My brother will be here, and since there is no iminent danger, we feel OK about going.
Thanks again friends!

Annette and I went to one of their outlet stores in Rehobeth Beach, DE. (not too far from here) She bought a bunch of their things for the price they normally charge for one piece!
I grew up at Rehoboth when it was just a sleepy beach town - no outlets - just great caramel popcorn and taffy. We were there with the kids right after they were born and it has really changed a lot.

Geez - you think someone at the physical therapy place would have noticed that he looked ill. thank goodness you caught all this in time to get the healing started.
I hope your Dad makes a very quick recovery. Is he taking good care of himself? - or maybe he is slightly depressed since your mother's passing - make sure he doesn't neglect himself.
Have a wonderful trip to the World - Sophia looks all grown up in those shamrock pics - very cute!!! Hello to Amy too.

LOL! Of course they have markers! Up until 4 they used those crayola wonder markers though...no sense asking for trouble. ;)
I think grandparents tend to not be that up to date on the developmental side of things - they forget that a 4 yr. old can be responsible enough to use markers without a problem. So a knee jerk reaction is often that it is too early for them to have something. We got this a lot but you know what your kids are ready for.

Thanks Elaine, will do. I think losing mom has been very hard on him. When you spend almost 50 years of your life with someone, it has to leave a big void. It seems like with men it happens quite often when they lose their wives, they start to go downhill. Women are better survivors I think!

I am having a Crumpler crisis....
Which one do I want?
I have the Rebel XT, kit lens, 75-200 zoom, 50mm fixed, and intend to get an external flash soon.
I usually wouldn't carry all that with me -- we have a padded LowePro backpack for transport. I just need something for when we are touring -- to hold the camera and maybe one extra lens.
Tana has the $4 mill and says she wishes it were bigger, but my boss just got the $5 mill and it seems soooo big to me. You have to understand I'm the kind of gal who, if carrying a bigger purse, tends to fill it with crap.... so I carry a small purse so I don't accumulate stuff I don't need. I fear that if I have a larger camera bag, I'll wind up toting the farm with me...
So that's my crisis for the night. And now I am going to bed :)
Sweet dreams everyone :cloud9:

I have a "big old" backpack for my XTi but always want something really small to protect it and carry the flash just in case I need more power than the built-in flash can give.

John - I saw the update on your Dad and I hope you continue to get good news. I figure by now I have probably missed you but have a great trip!
I know this is probably not the place to come to to get good rational advice but I will toss this out here anyway. DH and I will be celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary this upcoming May 24th. We originally had planned long ago to take a week long Disney cruise to celebrate but the Med sailings prevented that. That is actually how we ended up on the Geek cruise. :)
Well we really would like to get away for a few days around our anniversary not only because it is our anniversary but because we are just at one of those points where it would probably be very beneficial to get away just the two of us to reconnect and have some fun. It looks like the 3 night DCL cruise that leaves on 5/24 is on sale and it would now only cost us $998 for the 2 of us in a Cat 12. We had been looking at some Carnival 4 night cruises that are just about $50 less but we just were not too excited about them.
The plusses would be obvious but there seem to be a lot of reasons why we should not go. The price is still really high when you consider airfare (right now over $500 total for the 2 of us), a car to the port, a night in a hotel the night before the cruise, tips, etc.. I figure we are looking at close to $2200 for just a 3 night cruise! We will have that money from our tax refund but we had planned to use it to pay for all of our November WDW vacation and to use some it to pay down a credit card balance.
Plus I would have to take 3 days vacation from work when I am already pretty low on vacation. The kids could stay with my parents but with DS's new food allergies it seems like an awful lot to ask. Plus Allie has been acting weird lately and has not been the easiest kid to take care of. We have never left DD overnight with my parents and while she knows them she has not seen them since Thanksgiving - that is a long time for a 2 year old. If she has a bad time there will be nothing we can do because we can't come home early and/or even call to see how she is. Plus I figure DS may be really, really upset if we go on the "Mickey boat" without him.
I just don't know what to do. Part of me thinks that we should take the time (and spend the money ) to get away. 10 years of marriage is something we should celebrate. Another part of me says that we can keep it lowkey and celebrate it without spending $$$$. Are we going to look back someday and wish we had taken this trip?
So what would you guys do in my place?

i know how it is to need that mommy/daddy "alone time"....
It's just a little far for you to get to a boat to cruise....
Is it possible to find some alone time closer to home? Maybe a B&B with a hot tub or something like those hotels in the Poconos with honeymoon suites and other activities..... Maybe even Niagara Falls...
I know i had plans that i wanted to happen for our 10th last year.... Well Elvis and Las Vegas never happened but i did get to sail with all you guys a couple months later and it was one if not the best vacation we've taken.

Becka, we, of course, are always in favor of a Disney Cruise! But, with all the circumstances you described I think Kristina may have some good thoughts. A three day weekend at t bed and breakfast can be a wonderful way to reconnect. Bed and breakfast hosts are very good at pampering you, yet giving you lots of space. Lots less money, less time for your parents to deal with the kids, less vacation time used. You could easily prepare 3 days worth of snacks, food, etc for DS so your mom won't have to fret about what he can and can't have. You would be able to talk with the kids by phone if you need to, although for a reconnect weekend I would advise not call them, but give let your parents know that if they absolutely have to call they can. You will also be guilt free when you return instead of thinking how "bad" it was to do the Mickey Boat without DS.

Hey, Becka,
I think time away is a great thing. But I'll add my voice to those saying that the 3-day DC may not work for you right now. I bet you can find something fun nearby.... Visit St. Louis or KC and do all the tourist stuff. Have a cheesy, campy time with the shows in Branson. You get the idea.

Becka,
I know your not crazy about Carnival, but Carnival and RCCL both have ports in New Orleans and Galveston which I believe are alot closer than Florida to you. Also like Kristina mentioned there's Niagra Falls or maybe the Mountians of Tennesse (Gatlinsburg) which maybe nice in the spring.
Of course what about Branson. You are there afterall (MO) i know my parents liked it but not sure if its your cup of tea....
