Fitness on the cruise.

Has anyone used the fitness center? Is it all treadmills and weights?

Cheryl

Sad to say we haven't use it but have gone through it. There are a number of treadmills for currently overlook the bridge. This will change when the Wonder goes into drydock next year.

There are also a number of weight machines like you would find in a normal healthclub. Also some stair climbers and free weights.

I believe they also do a number of classes (yoga, etc.).

I plan (note the word plan - didn't manage it on the 10 day) to walk deck 4 in the mornings. That and we try and take the stairs a lot for our exercise.

Happy Anniversary Scott and Lynn!

We are staying at the Dolphin the night before cruising and then over to OKW for Thurs and then off to our house hunting up in Leesburg for the weekend.

We will be back to BWV on Sunday thru Wednesday and then back to reality til my next trip.

Amy - good catch! Yeah Mark! We usually really celebrate those milestone posts on our May thread and didn't even think of it here. :)

VERY cool! I didn't know I did that either. :)

I have been busy this am, have updated the website with DVC's Cruise News Email #5, sent out June 30.

Thanks to FoxxBoys for posting about the personalization. After reading the DVC Member page I was a little confused and asked DVC for some clarrification. My question was basically if the personalization link should only be used if you wanted something other than the name on the reservation (which in our case is Mark and Mary). Here is the response I got.

Great questions! You're exactly right... if you do nothing, than the names on file will be used for any points of personalization. No need to specify last name... it's only first (middle, or nickname) name preferences.

It's only necessary to provide a preference for those individuals who have a request to use a different name or variation of the name. We'll sort through each request, by stateroom number and name on the reservation, and match up requests accordingly.

So if you have a common first name and that is what you go by you don't have to do anything. However if you have a given name of say Dorothy but you go by Dot you would want to change it. Maybe I was the only one who wasn't 100% clear but hopefully this will help others as well.

We have taken DLC transportation to the ship without staying in a pick up hotel, but it does necessitate taking a taxi early in the morning. We picked the Grand Floridian because they were the first pick up. We would get a taxi from OKW to the Grand Floridian, drop off our luggage at the cruise desk area, then walk over to the Poly for breakfast of stuffed french toast. This was several years ago, so I don't know if it would still work now. This time we will have a rental car, we will drop it off at the port, and pick up another one for the way back. We have also used various limo services, which, for the two of us was only slightly more expensive than the DLC bus and less hassel getting to the right hotel very early in the morning.

Thanks for all the Anniversary wishes, that is very thoughtful of all of you.

Lynn

Update on the Key West electric cars -

Chris called Tropical rental cars, but they were unwilling to work with us at all. They do NOT do ANY reservations for holidays and weekends, and since we'll be in KW on Labor day, they wouldn't work with us. The owner told us that they only have 26 cars and on the holidays, they get a lot of people that come early in the morning and rent all day. So, since we only looking at 4 hour rentals in the afternoon, he said that there was NO guarantee that he will even have any cars. So, just because they are the cheapest, there is no guarantee, since we don't get in until just before noon.

We called another company, and that owner says that he has TONS of cars and he WILL work with us. He told Chris to call in a couple of weeks with how many cars and he will make sure that he has what we need. I'll keep you updated, or have Chris post with all the details.

Mary I was a little confused about the personalization name thing too. I decided not to fill out the form and thought I would e-mail DVC this morning about it. Looks like you already took care of that! Thanks. We won't need to fill out the form either.

   Whew! We have become a chatty bunch!

Grumpy 1 congratulations!

Bcvprincesses, have fun on your camping trip. The is a lot of people going should be a great time for sure!

Passports, yup, we have them as well. I went to Europe with gfs and upon my return made the rest of the family get theirs. I figure you never know when you might want to take a trip and having them is easy. We have used them with great ease going to/from Canada and Mexico. Even DSs found it better as they were being checked through. One of their friends was denied entry bc papers were not in order (driver’s license and birth certificates) so everyone else had to turn around since they all traveled together. Almost happened with us and our neighbors when we were traveling too. Anyway, it is just easier this way.

I call that incentive to book another cruise. ;)I so love your thinking! I am trying to get DH to comment on the fact that we need to bring our 2006 calendars! He remains silent.
Our plan is to definitely book a new cruise. We're planning on booking the Castaway Cay double-dip cruise to Costa Maya in October 2006. I'm sure hoping that there's a great incentive to cruise again, but we'll see.Hmmmm, might work, but 2007 might be a better shot for us. We are on borrowed points for Jan 2006 already. :)

We are going to WDW after and staying at BWV! Yippee!

My apoligies in advance. If you see wierd spelling etc in posts in the 5:30 - 6 or 6:30 range. You see my smart DH set up a computer with monitor and keyboard on the treadmill. Now I can walk and Dis at the same time! :cool1:I want one of those!

Scott & Lynn, Happy 25th Anniversary!

What are the dates for the Oct double dip? I’m too lazy to hunt for them myself.

I starting hinting at DH this morning about this....what about maybe possibly looking into maybe booking while we are onboard for next year?? Honey, sweetheart, love of my life.... We'll see what the deal is when we get on board! Hey, it wasn't a "NO" so, I'll take it!

On a side note, I also got my whole transportation dilemna squared away. We are changing our ressie from AS Movies to PO Riverside, that way the bus will just pick us up there and take us to the port. Not the baragain rate I was looking for, but I'll save a ton in migraine pills trying to work a cab to another resort with two kids plus luggage!

OK--I'm ready to go now! :Pinkbounc

I spoke to the guy at TropiCar Inc. way back and he said "don't worry, we'll have plenty of ev's..." boy am I glad you got the straight story. I forgot we'd be there on a holiday. I can't see why a co. wouldn't want to work w/ such a large group - it's to their benefit. :)

I think that the reason that they weren't willing to work with us is because we are only going to be renting for 1/2 the day, and on holidays, a lot of their business comes from people who go early (he said 8am) and rent all day.

Amy - thanks for the update on the Elec Car situation! I really appreciate you guys doing the legwork here.

Diana Lyn - glad you got your transportation situation figured out! At first we were not going to rent a car the entire time, however I managed to get what we feel is a great rate with National so we are keeping for the entire trip.

We need a car for 2 days before the cruise and 3 1/2 days after the cruise. It was actually cheaper to get the rental car for the whole 9 days and pay the $40 to park at the port then it was to get two seperate rentals.

Diana Lyn - it does feel good to get all the transportation and hotel reservations taken care of - now you can focus on the cruise itself instead of worrying.

Amy - won't bother me - I like chatty groups. The 10 day cruise we were on has over 26,000 posts on it (24,000 at cruise time). The May cruise for next year already has 11,000 posts on it (I got #11000 last night).

Besides we are talking great stuff here. The pesonalizations, door signs, the electric cars. Sharing is what the cruise meets thread is all about.

UPS just delivered our Passporter. I can't believe I ordered it yesterday morning and it arrived this morning. Awesome customer service. :cheer2:

I had not thought about us being at Key West on Labor Day. I think it will be more crowded with people visiting for the day. All the more reason to plan ahead. I'll let my DH know as he's taken on the responsibility for Key West plans. :rotfl2:

Amy, thanks for the info on the electric cars. We are definately interested. I think it will make it easier on the kids instead of walking all over. And, they look kind so unique. :cool1: :moped:

I definately went to the DVC last night to make sure anything personalized does not come with my given name. I grew up having to be called "Cynthia" for the first weeks of school until the teachers finally realized I much preferred Cindy. Yesterday, Walker overheard me on the phone saying my name was "Cynthia" and he gave me the strangest look -- as if to say, you're who?? :rotfl2:

I don't remember anything personalized from Member Homecoming? I remember they asked for names but don't recall anything personalized. What am I forgetting? :confused3

I'm really super excited. I can't wait to walk onto the ship and hear our name announced! I can't wait to be on deck with those frosty drinks! And I can't wait for my girls to see Mickey!! Ooooh, and frosty drinks, YUMMY!!! I didn't get to have any on the last cruise since I was preggo with Maddie. I see a Konk Kooler in my future!!! (and, it can't be soon enough for me)

I was pregnant for two years straight! I actually had 4 months in between my two pregnancies when I wasn't pregnant. So I was at Disney 4 times, including my last cruise and was drinkless. So if anyone is looking for either Amy or myself....just look for the girls with biggest frosty drinks!! Our poor DHs! They are going to be chasing the girls around the ship while we sip our konk koolers!

Happy Anniversary, Scott & Lynn!

Congrats Grumpy on the Passporter! It looks interesting and even though we've cruised with Disney before, I'm seriously considering purchasing one (much to the dismay of my DH Tom!)

For those of you who are Disney Visa card holders and live near a big city, the free movie screening for Sky High is up now - just checked yesterday. Looks like they'll be doing it a little differently this time - tickets in the mail to go anytime over the opening weekend.

We'll be staying after at SSR until Sunday (anybody else just a little trepidacious over traveling 9/11?) My hubby is trying to get a tee time for golfing (not sure where exactly) for Friday morning. We're going to the Night of Joy Friday night and will take the morning easy with no park outings. Saturday will be Epcot and I think we're going to try to get in MGM too - last time we went Tom didn't get to ride any of the rides - too long of lines.

Any more word on the scrapbook class? I need to know what I should pack...

Thanks for looking into the electric cars - not sure how we're going to go yet - or to what.

Have a great day everyone! Kristi

We too are flying home on Sunday and yes, I spent a lot of time thinking about the safety aspects as well. I really didn't want to go home on Saturday and since we both must be at work on Monday we're just going to be extra safe, extra early and remember to honor those who gave all 4 years ago.

For some reason I am having the hardest time planning meals this trip. I normally plan our meals simultaneously with our park plan and I just cannot get into a groove and I do need to call and put in some ADRs.

What's everyone doing Saturday night after the DVC presail party? We are thinking of trying to get O'Hana reservations and heading over to the Poly to chill out, eat some food and possibly see wishes from the beach before we head back to PI or to bed.

The Oct double scoop may be interesting. Will hafta think on that one for sure. The dates may work out for me. Anyone have room in a suitcase for me if DH can't go?

Yes, thanks again on the ec rental checking.

I am looking forward to those delicious adult beverages for sure!

Amazing how fast the Passproter was delivered.

I need to check with DH if he updated my name. He gets all the email as he is the one who was burning to go!

Besides bringing your calendars to reserve your next cruises, don't forget that you may find unbeatable prices to add points if you are thinking of it.
We added 100 points, were entered into a drawing and won the free Cancun week. Grand great deal!

Georgie - the party will be for all ages. Those who are cruising will have access to the Pleasure Island clubs at no charge for the evening. I don't consider the clubs to be child friendly so you may want to check out other things for later in the evening. The expanded Lego store at Downtown Disney is very very cool and there is always Disney Quest as well. Either one I think Brandon would enjoy. Or you could head back over to one of the parks.

Ok, I think that this is a sign. I saw this recipe online here on the DIS the other day too. I was at Publix and saw that they did have the Welches passion fruit juice concentrate. SO, I think that this is a sign that I should make a batch of these this weekend. My kids will be with us at the party. We'll be leaving afterwards. We are not taking advantage of the PI clubs.

Afterwards, I think we're going to either hit the pool or activate those AP's. We could be tempted with Ohanas if there is a pre-cruise group heading over there.

I guess we don't really have much of a plan. :rotfl:

BTW - 1 room left to go and we will be OFFICIALLY UNPACKED... whoo hoo!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

And it only took 4 weeks! Of course, this doesn't include the boxes of "miscellaneous" that went into the attic, or the boxes that went into that "man world" we call a garage. ;)

As for chatting a lot, I feel like this is my own little coffee circle lately! It's really been enjoyable. I wonder how many people are being driven crazy???

Mary - didn't realize the pub would be open by then! Anyone have an idea what the menu might be like as that's another great idea! Wonder if they will take ADRs/PSs?

We'll be staying after at SSR until Sunday (anybody else just a little trepidacious over traveling 9/11?) My hubby is trying to get a tee time for golfing (not sure where exactly) for Friday morning. We're going to the Night of Joy Friday night and will take the morning easy with no park outings. Saturday will be Epcot and I think we're going to try to get in MGM too - last time we went Tom didn't get to ride any of the rides - too long of lines.

Never even thought about the fact that we were flying out on 9/11 until you mentioned it. I'm not really worried about it. Guess it has to do with dh being in the military... I try not to worry about things I can't control.

We're looking at attending NOJ also, but on Saturday, not Friday. We're not sure though, because we're doing the Sunrise Safari on Sunday, and I don't know if I can handle a late night at MK followed by an early morning at AK.

:rotfl:

We'll have the girls with us too, so no PI clubs for us. And, I KNOW that if I mention O'Hana to Chris (or he reads it on these boards - hi honey) we'll definitely be going. So, count us in for O'Hana.

HookdonWDW

What's everyone doing Saturday night after the DVC presail party? We are thinking of trying to get O'Hana reservations and heading over to the Poly to chill out, eat some food and possibly see wishes from the beach before we head back to PI or to bed.

We'll have the kids with us, so we're thinking about exploring the shops at DTD, and grabbing a bite to eat at Rainforest Cafe or Earl of Sandwich before heading back to OKW.

We added 100 points, were entered into a drawing and won the free Cancun week. Grand great deal!

I know what you mean! Before we moved into this house, I had moved 5 times in just 2 1/2 years. I told Chris when we moved into this house that I was NOT moving again. And, if we were going to move again any time in the future, he had better hire someone to pack us, move and unpack everything.

The first 2 years we were married, we moved 8 times. :sad2:

When we moved here, I said, that's it, never again. It's been 13 years. We've long outgrown our home. Now that we are ready to move, Cameron is very adament against it. This is his home, these are his friends, this is his school. Oye!

One of these days, we'll tackle an addition. That's a really scary idea to me.

I made a promise to myself to lurk less and post more and am failing miserably. I am finally caught up reading the thread and thought I may as well jump in now.

Since I can only take one Saturday off we are flying down to MCO late on Saturday night the day before the cruise and I am paying a a ridiculous room rate at the Hyatt rather than rent a car for one night to stay offsite. We will miss the PI party. We hope to be able to use the DCL busses from the airport to get to the port and back.

We are staying after the cruise at BCV and attending the pin event at Epcot. My sister's two friends are flying in Thursday morning fron Philly and we plan to meet up , rent a car and drive to WDW. When we realized Sunday was 9-11 we decided to fly home Monday instead- I just couldn't do it as I am scared to fly as it is. I did book the Segway tour for Monday morning.

I am enjoying reading about everyone's plans and am getting very excited. :)

We'll be arriving VERY LATE Friday, 09/02, hopefully checking into AKL... great place! After the cruise we'll be staying at the Beach Club Villas so Brabdon can try out Storm-along Bay! We're planning to get 4 day hopper passes. Since they expire 14 days after first use, we'll be okay before and after the cruise. Saturday night we'll probably do MK, because, the weekend after the cruise will be Night of Joy and MK will be closed unless you have a ticket for the event.

Brandon told my mom this weekend. "I know September is a long ways away, but I am SO excited about this cruise!" :goodvibes

We have our matching tropical shirts, and matching Mickey logo shirts. As a surprise I even bought Golden Mickey pins and Golden Mickey ears to wear the night of the Golden Mickey show!

You will LOVE the Segways. It did take me a while to get used to them.. especially the turn knob on the left side... but I am glad I decided to keep trying until I felt comfortable. By the time we got to France I was doing the can-can on the Segway! :rotfl:

We tried to get BCV for either before or after our cruise, but they didn't have any studios available. I'm still tempted to get ourselves put on the waiting list, just in case someone cancels. We wanted to play at Stormalong Bay, but if we can't do it this time, no big deal.

We also have our matching Mickey logo shirts and matching tropical shirts for embarkation day. We didn't end up getting the group shirts because we couldn't get them small enough for the girls. So, my mom is making us matching shirts & dresses for the girls.

WOW!!! I get home from work and can't believe how far behind I've gotten with the posts.

Our plan is to check out the Irish Pub after the party on Saturday. Can't pass up the free admission. Also, my DS10 enjoys the Adventurer's Club, so we will probably stop on in there as well.

We checked into the transportation options (WDW to port and back) and found it less expensive to rent a car for the whole trip and pay for parking.

The Irish Pub is in Pleasure Island right near where the party is going to be. As for food it says they will be serving authenic Irish Flair with a modern twist. They are bringing one of the top chefs from Ireland over for it.

Night of Joy is a hard ticket event that I believe highlights some of the top Christian singers and groups.

Ok, the main batch of button production is done! I have completed 153 custom buttons, along with a bunch of blank spares.

This doesn't mean it's over, just all the ones I have confirmed info for as of this list (click here) (http://monorailgreen.info/member2005/list.html) are now made.

I will now check email and start off a folowup list of anyone who happens by as of this point.

I am NOW setting a ETCHED IN STONE cutoff date of August 12th. There will simply not be time to make any more buttons after that.

Following the picture, I will attach the button instructions for anyone who may still need them.

Here, have a look!
http://monorailgreen.info/member2005/buttons.jpg
Important instructions!! Please read thru carefully!

I have compiled a name list of the buttons I have information for.

I need everyone to proofread theirs and make sure I have it right.

If you have a 'Don't have' in the Member column that's because I don't have that information from you. It is optional, I will simply not add it to buttons that I don't have it.

If you want to add it or see anything that needs correcting, email me at member2005@monorailgreen.info.

If you don't see your name on this list at all , you need to send the following info to the above email address:

Your Dis Name and real name (only 1st name goes on button)
Names of anyone else going you want buttons for
Your cabin # (required)
When you joined DVC and where you own (optional)
Will you be attending the night before the cruise DVC event at Pleasure Island(click for info)? (http://monorailgreen.info/member2005/email/email4.htm)
This list is closed, but for reference to see if I have yours already: Member Cruise Button List (http://monorailgreen.info/member2005/list.html)

It is also linked from the webpage.

I'm so glad we're sharing our pre and post cruise plans. I don't know what I'm more excited about. DBF and I will be at the Beach Club (concierge level) Friday & Saturday nights. Back in October when I booked this I was able to get the cast member rate cause CP hadn't bought TDS yet. We were told any reservations made prior to the sale of the stores would still be valid for a disc. Soooooo I splurged and booked concierge. I've stayed on that level there before, but w/ my parents and sister when I was MUCH younger. It's been a while since my DBF and I have gone just the two of us (we usually travel w/ large groups of friends or family) so we're catching up on the "couples" stuff. We're also celebrating the completion of our masters degrees - I know I've mentioned this but I'm BEAMING about it - 3 weeks to go :bounce:

Anyway, here's our plans...
Friday - Dinner w/ my aunt and her friends at Flying Fish (we'll have one day coincide. she's a DVC member and joined me for MH, but as a teacher in NJ the first week of school conflicted w/ this MC. she's very sad :guilty: ) Hopefully we'll stop at Jellyrolls too.

Saturday - Exclusive Concierge Guest Safari, PI Party (just for a bit), Dinner at V&A

After cruise...
2 nights concierge at RPH at Universal
Thursday - Cape Canaveral & Lunch w/ and astronaut
Friday - Universal and or IOA

Amy - the Lego store is real close to where we'll be meeting between 3-4 pm so after the girls naps you could head on over and check out the store before meeting up. One back wall is all full of bins and you can buy the pieces by the pound. Very cool store.

Edited to add - of course the pieces are really small so don't know if your girls (especially Madison) would be into them yet.

Thanks Mary - we'll probably try to go to DTD on Saturday too and check out the Lego store. Right now, they are both still into the Lego Duplo blocks, since they are a bit bigger. But, I'm sure that they would love to check it all out.

I'm sure they will love seeing everything made from Lego's outside the building. The serpant in the lake, the family walking a group of dogs - all made out of Lego's!

Here's our rough plan for before and after the cruise.

We'll get into Boardwalk Friday night after driving down Thursday/Friday.

Saturday our plans call for meeting up with a friend from our December '04 cruise to ride Soarin'. Sometime that day we have to meet up with someone from our May '06 cruise to pick up the cruise mascot. Then we'll head over to Downtown Disney to set up by 3pm. After the party we are looking at doing the Irish Pub and then I'm sure we'll call it an early night.

Sunday we plan on driving over to Mary Queen of the Universe for Mass, maybe stopping for breakfast, and then driving over to the port.

Thursday we'll drive back from the port and check back into Boardwalk. Epcot will most likely be our park of choice and we are having dinner with friends on that night in Japan.

Friday we are totally open. Not sure what we will do.

Early Saturday morning we head out for the road trip back home.

...and try to get the girls to take a nap.

My goal for the entire trip is to get the girls to take ONE nap!! Like a real nap, not just passing out in the stroller from utter exhaustion because mom is a park commando!

Our plan is for Friday, we get in at 10am so we are going to head over to MGM to see Bear and JoJo. I'll be the mom sobbing with joy the entire time.

Saturday we are going to do AK. It's a quick park and that way we can make it over to DTD for the Bon Voyage Party after....dare I say....naps!

We are pretty much up in the air for Thursday/Friday/Saturday after the cruise. Our flight doesn't leave until 6:45pm so that gives us almost all of Saturday to play. We'll probably spend most of our time at MK, because I need to do those VMK quests and Julia needs her 1st haircut!

You and I are so much alike, Diana. I would love for them to get a good nap, but I know that it probably won't happen. We'll see.

Also, Madison needs her first haircut too. Right now, she has the Pebbles ponytail on top of her head to keep her hair out of her eyes. I just haven't had the chance to take her to MK to get it cut yet.

This is don't get.

Little kids fight to take a nap. When they get to be teenagers (or pre-teens in our case), we can't get them to wake up in the AM. When we get to be our age, we'd love to take a nap everyday.

It's such a vicious cycle. :rotfl2:

I guess it's time for us to really finalize our plans. Right now, most of our focus is getting ready for Disney's Hilton Head Island the end of next week. :teeth: Our most favorite family vacation spot.

We need to work on our September plans. And, October plans. :teeth: Cameron & I are returning to WDW in early October. We've never done back to back trips before so it should be fun. That will also be our first mom-son trip ever. We are going to have a blast but I'm starting to feel bad for Walker who will be left behind - going camping for a long weekend with Gary :( . It's just my mommy-guilt kicking in. :guilty:

Well, I called member services about a studio at BCV for Saturday before the cruise, but no luck. I'm on the waiting list, but I'm not hopeful since it's only a couple months away. No big deal though, we have ressies at BWV.

I got very excited this morning when I went to the post office, I got mail from DCL. It was only the info on excursions and a card to fill out for names. Which is old news, so it was a tad less exciting. My big dilema is what name to put for my DD. Her given name is Dakota, but we have been calling her Kody since she was born. Just this year, I found out that some of her friends call her Dakota and others call her Kody. I asked her what she wanted me to call her, she said it didn't matter. She still doesn't know about the cruise, I'll have to ask her in a tactful way how she wants to be introduced to new people, I just wish I knew what was being personalized. Though I do love surprises.

Surprises are a LOT of FUN!!! :goodvibes

When we were asked to provide names for last years DVC Member Homecoming, we spent all kinds of time wondering what kind of personalized "gift" we would receive. As it turned out, DVC was very overwhelmed with pulling everything together for the event, and never did get to use the names for anything... ;)

I am hoping, along with you that this time, the name information will be used, and, I'm trying VERY HARD, to just go with the flow and let the surprises just happen! :goodvibes

If this cruise is like the Member cruise in 2003, we will be in for a WONDERFUL time. They really rolled out the red carpet and treated us like royalty! :wizard:

Since this is our first member event, I have no expectations, except to have fun. I've read reviews of the last member cruise on Mark & Mary's website, but I can't wait to experience the whole thing. We've been so excited since this first was announced, and I was amazed when I got in to book so quickly. We even ended up snagging a SPH room. So, in 7 1/2 short weeks, we'll all be sailing away, and I can't wait!!!

Amy, we didn't know what to expect when we booked the first Member Cruise. We had already cruised DCL and had put up with a lot of negative talk on the DVC board about how stupid we were for booking a cruise more expensive than a regular 4 day cruise.

It didn't take long toknow that we were in for something special. Coming up the escalator we saw the Welcome Home signs. Then it was getting special Member Homecoming KTTW cards. Our check in materials were also special for this cruise and we also got the Member Challenge which was a way for everyone in line to start talking to each other.

Boarding the ship we were welcomed home again. Not welcome aboard - welcome home! Up to the buffet and the watermelons say welcome home. Got to the room and the tv had welcome home on it. Oh yes this was going to be special.

Of course what made it extra special were the DIS'ers. We had half as many DIS'ers on that cruise but it was fun! Sailaway came and we took over the ship. They hoisted a DVC flag! Then we were off and sailing away on our magical voyage!

To me that would have been special enough but was DVC finished - no way! First there were the gifts...the paper hand for sailaway, the mesh bag for shopping in Nassau, the t-shirts, the tea pot. It was like Christmas coming to our room every night.

There were also the guests. Getting to hear a concert by Andrea McArdle was nice. My favorite, however, was taking the ship tour with one of the Imagineers who helped design the rooms. Awesome!

Most of all it was the feeling that it was a giant reunion. You had something in common with everyone. It was a DVC Block Party that went on for 4 days.

I don't know what surprises they may have in store for us this time, but I know that it is going to be awesome!

Thanks Mary! We cruised DCL once before, so I know that the cruise part of it will be awesome. And, I know that I'm going to have a good time, because of the DISers that I've already met on this board. I feel like I already know some of you, and I've never met ANY of you. Plus, this is DVC, and it was popular the first time, so it has to be even more exciting the second time.

This really is going to be a LOT of fun!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Sorry Diana - didn't mean to tease. You are right about the bag. We used it on our June trip and the guards said the same thing to us as well.

For this trip we got a great lime green zip bag as a gift. It is perfect for the buttons we'll be bringing. I'm sure I'll be bringing the blue mesh one as well for our visit to Key West!

Mary, what a great story of our first Member's cruise. Yes, it was exactly as you said. It was our first ever cruise too and I know I have been spoiled. We haven't taken the opportunity to cruise since. So looking forward to another great story.

DH just emailed the name choices in last night. That's set. Still no door magnets, but not too worried about that.

Looking forward to everything. Oh, and I will be a DISgirl too. tee hee.

We are going to Universal for a few days before the cruise and I just booked BCV for the 2 days after. Thanks Mary for the trip down Memory Lane! The first Member Cruise was really neat, on top of that it was going to be my first ever cruise. I had no idea what to expect - but I enjoyed everything. I never expected to get hooked/addicted to cruising! The meeting at the Radisson the night before was pretty cool too.

The only plans we have for before the cruise will be the DIS meet/Bon Voyage Party and then Sunday morning we have reservations at Chef Mickey's with my sister and her family.

Here's my question for today. :flower:

What do you do to prevent sea sickness. I was reading a thread over on the CB and someone posted that if you take dramamine not to drink. :earseek: That would definately blow any thoughts of a DISgirl party for me.

My DS5 is very prone to car sickness. DH is prone to migrains and I would hate for something like that to ruin our days. I've read that a lot of people start taking something a day before and just continue every day they cruise.

Or, are patches better?

I would like to prevent any type of motion sickness all together for all of us. :scared:

Thanks.

I'm sorry but I can't help you with the seasickness. We never had an seasickness issues. My DD (who was 2 at the time) normally had car sickness, but she had no problems with sea sickness. Now, at the time, I was only 12 weeks pregnant and I did have a little bit of queasiness on the first night before dinner. But, I didn't know whether it was the ship or the pregnancy. I asked for a dinner roll quickly, and I felt fine. So, that was our only incidence of sickness.

I've heard people comment that the Dramamine makes you sleepy. We carry the Bonine with us, but in 4 cruises we have never had to use it - we are not prone to motion sickness, so I'm sure this isn't a big help.

My sister (when younger use to carry a coffee can in the car on our trips) does take something (probably Bonine) on the cruises. I believe she told me she takes one before the ship starts to sail. Hey Scrappy if you're out there let us know what you take and how often.

Since we are picking on Mary about the measurements I might add that the picture of the shoe holder is on your "other" right :confused3 Nice rose petals - was that part of the REAS package? Pretty Neat!

Going back to seasickness.....on my honeymoon, my first cruise ever, I got VERY seasick. Seasick to the point where people kept coming up to me asking if I was ok. We had an veranda cabin that cruise. I got up in the morning on the first day, saw the ocean whizing by and well, it didn't get better from there. My solution was to go on another cruise! ....this time 12 weeks pregnant, so I didn't want to take all the meds, I tried those bracelet things and they were wonderful. On top of not getting seasick, I didn't have that pregnancy sick either!

And for the record, I'm an inside stateroom girl now! I happy give the outside views to those of you who like to lie in bed and watch the world go by!

Amy--I'd be happy to bring some buckets! Our pool overflowed a couple of weeks ago in a whole week of rain. Luckily, it overflowed into our sunporch and not the family room. Good Luck.

Sorry it's been a while since our last post, but work has kept us hopping! I've just spent the last couple of hours catching up on reading (almost 20 pages) posts--- you guys have been busy!

Our plans have us arriving on Sat., checking in at BWV before heading over to the pre-cruise festivities with you guys at DTD. We have opted to use the ME service (trial run for our cruise with DH's family in November) for arrival/departure, and probably use the DCL transfers to the port and back to BWV for a couple of days after.

So, we have our rooms (land and sea), flights (Sat./Sat.), buttons (thanks, Mark--- they look fabulous), shirts (thanks to Kay and everyone), party plans, spa/excursion ressies and priority seating ressies (Spoodles before/after the cruise and LeCellier after the cruise one night). I think we're pretty well set.

We're really looking forward to meeting everyone!

I would also throw out some opinoins on seasickness.

Don't take other forms of motion sickness as for granted seasickness will happen. I do get very motion sick on 'virtual' rides like Body Wars, and coasters with loops, like Rock N Roller. I also will get carsick if I'm reading. That don't happen too much since I'm usually the one driving.

But I dont even get a teeny bit seasick on the cruise ships. The motion isn't the same and may or may not affect you.

I have been on 2 disney cruises and 1 RCCL cruise (it was my sisters - #1 Mouse fault). I am very prone to motion sickness, and as Gail mentioned use to travel with a coffee can when we would travel from Michigan to SC every year.(those mountains would get me everytime) I can not read while riding or flying. Sure makes for some long trips. While cruising I have taken the Bonine. I only take it when the seas get rough and the boat sways. I still have my original box (which has probably now expired) since I only had to use them a couple of times. The Bonine was great because I did not get sleepy from taking it. (note to self check expiration date on Bonine and see if I need more before repo cruise). The first time we cruised we followed a hurricane so needless to say the ship did do some rockin but still I only took a couple the whole time. Usually in the evening around dinner time was when I had the most problems.

You guys are going to have a great time on the cruise. Hope to meet up with the group at Pleasure Island.

Tiggerhappy, Pam, you're all set if you have your door magnet. Don't want to forget that. ;)

Mark, I'm with you on the motion sickness thing. Although not often, I will get that feeling even if some of the videos at EPCOT. I need to keep my eyes focused on the horizon and I manage ok then. Other times I am fine. Go figure.
:confused3
Sitting back and probably going to let my magnet go for the last possible minute. I don't want to take the time to play that just yet.

Otherwise, I'm ready!

Oh, I've been on that cruise before - it had another stop in Saratoga.

Seriously, can you transfer your cruise reservations like that?

Gail - good point. I'm not sure. I would think if anything they would have to pay the $75 rebooking fee. Doesn't seem fair to those people on the waiting list. Unless, of course, they've all been taken care of. Wonder if the person will get any takers.

Doesn't seem to be a regular DISer - only posts so far have been about renting points. Wonder if they don't get a buyer if they will come find us.

Personally I don't like that someone has decided to SELL their member cruise location when they won't be out any money (except possibly $75) and there is a waiting list.

I'm wondering how much they've investigated the entire process. First, as has been mentioned, the cruise to Old Key West doesn't have staterooms. :rotfl2: and then they state that they have a ressie for 3 and can increase it to 4.

We know that isn't true. The ship is sold out, and they are being VERY tight about adding people on to the cruise ship. Plus, I wonder if they've realized that there will be an additional fee if they are adding adults instead of a child for #3, and a charge for #4.

I think they would be better off cancelling, using/selling the points that are in hold status to someone else, and gifting the person at the top of the waitlist... oh well... :confused3

I don't think door magnets are one of my strengths, Tiger Lily. DH thinks that I already have done more than enough "event planner" things for our trip. ;) But I do have to say that all of you have been very creative with your designs--- is there going to be a competition/prize?

Key West plans---- because we're going to be there on Labor Day, are there going to be any special activities that Key West will be doing? Fireworks?? I don't think we're going to do any organized activities, other than watch people pass by one of the many bars that DH and I plan to visit. We love to watch crowds.... just not be stuck in them.

Am I reading correctly that most people do not take preventative measures against sea sickness and just deal with it if/when it happens?

Years ago, my MIL who is tough as iron, went on a cruise and was sick every single day. I'm sure being as stubborn as MIL is, she refused to take anything to calm her stomach down. I certainly want to avoid any problems.

WDWLVR
07-13-2005, 09:43 PM
Cindy - how many years ago did you MIL cruise? The reason I'm asking is that I've been cruising since the mid-70's and things have really changed since then. For one thing the ships of today have large mid-ship stabilizers. They make for a very smooth ride.

In addition the route we are taking is not one that takes a long time. So I don't think the Captain will be pushing the Wonder to its limits. The last Member Cruise we did was smooth as glass because we went so slow.

Now does that mean I don't think you should be thinking about it or not be prepared? Of course not. However at the same time I wouldn't worry too much.

Mary, I don't really remember but I know it was since Gary & I have been married (16 yearsago :cool1: ). I'm not exactly sure what cruise line they were on. I think it was probably a 7 day cruise and do remember they went through the Panama Canal.

I'm not so worried about Cameron -- he's tough as nails. It's Walker who sometimes will get carsick when we least expect it. Sometimes on a drive as short as 5 minutes and he'll start complaining. A lot of the times it happens when he's watching a DVD in the car or after playing a computer game and then getting into the car.

While it's on my mind, I will call the pediatricians office tomorrow and see what they have to say.

WOW! And I thought I was just lucky! I, too, get sick reading in a car, vowed to *never* ride Body Wars ever again (well, I could stand vomiting for a million dollars), and atthe end of Mission Space when they announced that we landed on Mars, I was about to yell to let me out if we had to "go back to Earth"! I was [ickky tummy - i can't spell nawshis] for half an hour later. My wife mentioned that it was the same feeling she had while pregant - I asked her why she agrees to have a 2nd kid?!?!?!

I did get a little sick (almost vomited) on a fishing trip with my DBIL, but the boat was tossing a bit. Amy's brother yakked - he downed a McD's sausage biscuit (or 2) before we got on board in the morning. He only kept them down less than an hour.

But I had absolutely NO problems on a 7 day Magic cruise Oct 2003. I did walk a little funny for a couple of days *after* the cruise. Walking in a straight line down an office hallway felt funny - like I was walking hard. heh heh In a meeting I could sit really still, gaze off, and feel the slight motion of the boat. Then they would disturb me by asking some work-related question!

If they have free meds on board and you are not sure if you would ever get sick, maybe you don't have to worry about it until it happens...

If they went thru the Canal, they had to be really moving to get there and back, it's not exactly close by. I can guarantee we won't be making speeds like that at all.

And that is the right thing, talk to your pediatrician. And I'd say get something as a precaution, but don't go dosing unless you really need it.

And Chris said right above, they do have free one doses of one of the two major seasickness meds in a box at the entry to the medcial center.

My two cents on the whole seasickness thing. Before I had a lot of surgeries and medications galore, I could handle just about anything. Now, not so much! Our first cruise, I got Transderm-Scop which is a little patch you wear behind your ear for about 3 days. You get a whole bunch of them with a prescription and they last for several years - so have only had to refill once since getting the first box in 1998. The thing I like about them is that you're not all groggy and sleeping away your vacation. You could feel the motion on the ocean, but it didn't affect the appetite (let's face it, good eats are a big draw for cruises!) or anything. You'll need to see a doctor first, but I recommend it - not sure about how good it would be for younger cruisers.

On the 7 day cruises there is a member meeting. Usually held on a sea day morning. There is coffee and pasteries. Everyone usually gets a hat and they have drawings for other prizes like beach towels, bags, etc.

DVC does not usually do anything on the 3 or 4 day cruises.

Good morning everyone!! The rain stopped last night, but they are saying that we'll have the same storms this afternoon too. :umbrella: I guess that we are finally in the regular FL summer pattern of afternoon thunderstorms.

I have LOTS to get done today around the house, so I probably won't be online much. (This is torture for me!!) But, I have a question, when is everyone arriving at the port? Even though we have our ressies made for Palo and the spa, I think that we're going to get up early (we do that anyway with the girls) and have some breakfast. Then, we'll head over to the port. Gosh, we could use that rain up this way. Everything is so brown. Even though I water, I still can't soak it like a good rain does.

We'll be there early too. :wave2: We have decided to drive the rental car to the port and park it (along with everything we don't need for the cruise). I'm not exactly sure what time we'll be there, but I suspect it will be early. By nature, I'm always early whereever I go so I don't think it will be a problem.

I've read we can bring a carryon bag with our bathing suits in it so that if the kids decide they want to swim, they can. Other than that, I think we'll just get ourselves familiar with the ship.

My guess is that yes they will leave envelopes with us and also leave vouchers for the pre-paid tip. Then we could add additional if we so wish. We'll be getting phone cards again as they always seem to go over well as an extra (not to replace the tip but as an extra little thank you).

Just a guess on my part.

I can't answer your question, but I've read the the crew does enjoy the extras like Wal-Mart gift cards and phone cards. I know I planned on having some on hand in case we met up with someone who goes above and beyond.

If we were bringing small children with us, we would have their swimsuits available for swimming. Once they see the pool and the Mickey hand slide there's nothing else in the world that matters. Actually now that I think about it, since we never seem to find time to enjoy the pools during the cruise maybe that is a good time to get some pool time in.

I have heard that the staff especially loves it when the children do a thank you card in their own way. What I have heard many people do (and those of you who have cruised with children please chime in) is that they ask their child to pick the one or two people in the clubs who have helped them the most - then they give the gift card to the child to give to them,

Will Cameron go for the short sleeved button up over a t-shirt look? This was very popular with Sam and his buddies last year. They could wear whatever t-shirt they wanted underneath, button up the shirt and tuck it in when required, and then unbutton & untuck it later on so they could do their pre-teen rebellious thing ;).

Sam found out that one of his teachers HATED the button down shirts, and preferred the polos (his old school had a strict dress code, his new one has uniforms)... bad mistake. I thought it was strange when he dug out every button down he owned during the last month of school. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

It must be for international calling. Otherwise it won't do much of the crew very good.

Also the minutes listed on the front are for US minutes. The number for international is much lower than that.

I know what you mean, I can't seem to stay away from these boards. I'm sure that you won't be able to pull me away when we get within a month of the cruise.

LOL... I'm kinda here. Unpack a box, check on line, unpack a box, check on line...next thing you know, I'll be done :wizard: DH finished setting up ds's tv/video/computer station, and it is SOOOO cool! I wanna be 10 years old again!

His room is spaced theme, and we ordered an old Mission Space Astronaut Training Station on line. DH rigged it with a flat screen monitor and keyboard, and we stored the tv converter, computer tower and video system in his bookshelves. It turned out SO nice! We managed to keep it a secret, and he is completely psyched. He's been messing with it all day today :3dglasses . The best part is that he's willingly been helping me set up the rest of his room today. After that, all I have left is the computer room I've been "unpacking" for the past four weeks, and I'm done! :bounce:

Sam is sworn to secrecy about what his room looks like. :ssst: I hear from Cameron a lot how lucky Sam is that he got to go to space camp. You do know, Cameron's spinning his wheels trying to figure out how to get to aviator camp next summer, don't you? Cameron doesn't need to know how cool Sam's room is, really. :teeth: Between you and me, it really sounds awesome.

We really need a photo of that room to appreciate it - I think I want to be 10 also!

Ok question - I understand the point of gift cards etc, however wouldn't the staff simply appreciate the cash tip more since they can then spend it on their needs?

LOL... and here Sam is telling us that this is the worse summer of his life, because he just had to leave all of his friends :guilty: ... we think of it as a "guilt room" - every time we move, the kids get to redesign their rooms. A little something to keep moral up ;). If Cameron is really interested in space camp/aviator camp (guess Sam talked about next year's camp, huh???), have him check out spacecamp.com. They run an essay scholarship contest every year. Also, last year, Sam got a certificate so that friends could register at a discount (hint, hint ;) ). :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

From what I hear, Cameron wants to fly the navy jets. Has Sam mentioned the Navy Goat we have hanging from a noose in our house???? :rotfl: :rotfl:

If I understand this correctly, the can't accept cash but can accept gift cards.

If that's the case then how would a tip envelope work if it's not cash?

I cannot remember where I read it, however, I do recall reading a while back in either a newsletter or on a website that the staff loved the calling cards etc, but could make more use of the $$ (can't we all?).

Well, now that I let the cat out of the bag (I mean goat :rotfl2: ), I'm sure Cameron will be emailing Sam to find out what this is all about.

Isn't it interesting that our boys look at each others lives and feel like they are missing out on something the other has experienced. I didn't realize that grass was greener on the other side of a 10 year olds life.

How I understand it is that mousekeeping (I know there's another name on the ship, can't think of it!) and servers/waitstaff are considered "tipped" positions but kids club/program staff aren't. So they can't accept $$ tips, but they can accept gifts.

Ok, here's how I take it on the tip thing. First off, all of our tips are pre-paid for this cruise, so I think that someone mentioned giving an extra gift card for the "normally" tipped positions (stateroom host, server & asst server). Also, there are other positions like the kids clubs staff & Flounders staff that are not tipped positions, so if you'd like to give them something extra, you can give them a gift card or some kind of goody.

I love to see how the kids breakdown by age. It's funny that there are no young baby boys, only girls. And, it's cool that they are pretty much even numbers for boys & girls.

We have always tipped additional at Palo. The service has been above and beyond.

When we went to Palo, we certainly tipped cash.

As for the rest, it's already been gotten right: your cabin steward(mousekeeping, if you prefer), and your dinner waitstaff, along with anyone doing wandering wait service are cash tippable. The club counselors can accept other forms(gift cards, phone cards, etc..) but not cash.

As I think Mary said back someplace, they'll probably have some kind of info as to what the 'auto tip' part will be, so you can do as you feel beyond that.

. . . so, as I was flipping through my binder for this trip (yes, I keep a binder with all relevant info, and yes, I understand that I may be a little over the top with my planning/organization), I suddenly realized that I had not made our ME ressies or DCL transfer ressies (we don't want to have to touch luggage this trip). Good thing that MS is open late on Thursdays.

With just the two of us traveling, it's a wash as to the cost of the transfers vs. car service, and since we now don't have to do the Palo/spa rush, it's nothing but relaxation for the Labor Day holiday.

The only glitch to our plan is --- how do I satisfy my addiction for diet mtn. dew? We've always had a car in the past to do a quick stop by a 7-11 or publix. Does anyone know whether the shops at MCO stock diet mountain dew or not? I have put a bug in DH's ear that The Perfect Gift would probably create a basket to help with this addiction--- we'll see if he remembers. I did happen to mention that Shirley could probably throw some of his favorite beer in with it

Hi everyone!! Boy, it's been quiet on this thread tonight. Well, we've decided to head to WDW for the weekend. (I love living so close!) I think that we're going to Madison's 1st haircut at the MK barbershop and we're going to celebrate my birthday (which is Monday). Chris ALWAYS goes to MK on his birthday, since it's the same day as Earth Day (4/22). So, I decided that I wanted to go for my birthday too (or at least close enough).

One of the things at the bottom of the intro to Key West I wrote many many pages back now(maybe I'll copy it to the webpage..) is there is a real, reasonably priced grocery store a few blocks from the port in Key West, if you can wait till morning. I'll do a cut and paste here..

The best grocery store on the island!! (http://www.faustos.com/)

Fausto's!! If you are trying to figure out how to get the groceries for in your cabin before boarding the ship at Port Canaveral, dont bother. Go here instead. It's a short walk from the dock, their prices are very reasonable, and they have a great selection. All you do is walk up Duvall until you get to Fleming, turn left it's the next block over.

For a review of the intro to Key west, just click here (http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=9100321&postcount=2575)

I'm having the same problem. I just got home from shopping (for the cruise :teeth: ) and found DH reading my Passporter. :magnify: I think this is a first that he's interested in helping plan one of our vacations.

DH tells me I have to share. :confused3 I guess I'll just read over his shoulder.

I hunted down one of the clear over the door shoe holders. :smooth: It took 3 different stores to find one in stock. So, for anyone whose procrastinating and plans to buy one, I would not put it off much longer. The one Target told me they sell a lot this time of year because of college kids taking them to school. Just a heads up.

Pam - we are doing a binder too. I usually only use a ticket holder/passport case for trips (and will again on this one) but when we do a road trip I make up a full binder. Print out of all the maps showing our route. Print outs of the hotels we are staying at. Our confirmations from DVC. I also do print out of things like Cracker Barrels along the route (you can always find a good clean bathroom and something to eat there).

On our road trips, we've always printed out the locations of Waffle Houses. DH & the kids really love their hash browns. Gary mentioned just last week since we are flying to Hilton Head, he won't get his Waffle House fix. I'm sure he'll survive. ;)

I'd much prefer the bathrooms at Cracker Barrel over the ones at Waffle House.

Mary, didn't I first meet you and Mark at the Cracker Barrel by Gurnee Mills? Or was it at the mall the next day? I remember looking through your scrapbook from the first member cruise. That's when I decided if there was ever another member event, we were going.
