Yeah, now it's time to do all the stuff that kept getting put on the back burner because we still had so much time until the cruise. We leave 2 weeks from today and I'm sure these two weeks will fly.

Stephanie how about adding binoculars to the list. No, we don't use them to look in the rooms of the other ships in port :rotfl:

The docs have finally arrived here!!! I met the UPS guy at his truck so he didn't even have to come to the door - I think he said something like - "something you've been waiting for I take it" - and my reply all the way back to the house was "thank you thank you thank you" :cool1: :cheer2:

We have documents!:jumping1: :jumping1:

Ok here's something that might help those of you still waiting. I had to run out and do a few errands this morning. Well in the course of 1 hour I saw 5 UPS trucks. Everytime I saw one I yelled out "I want my documents". Guess one of them heard me! :)

So one of my errands this morning was the scrapbook store. I know have my things for the scrapbook exchange. I hope whoever gets them likes what I got.

Ok, you guys have made me cave. Sign me up for the scrapbook exchange. I kept telling myself that I didn't need anything new, but it just sounds like so much fun.

Yippee for the docs dance.

I'm guessing from the description, that there is no formal sign-up for the scrap exchange. It's just bring a bag-o-scrap stuff ($20 value) and those with stuff will play, no? I like it that it is no pressure then. Cuz, if I forget to pack it, I won't feel bad about it so much.

I think I will spend this weekend figuring out what I need to get and next weekend putting it out to stuff in the suitcases.

Whooo hooo!

I'm thinking that's the rules, although I was just going to verify it when I saw your post.

I'd be interested in playing, but not sure I'll get myself to a scrapbook store before we leave.

If there isn't a formal sign up then if I get there, great, if not, no harm no foul. I just don't want someone DEPENDING on me bringing something. (plus, if I play, KT will have to play too!)

Hi Gail,

What cruise did you go on in Feb 04? We went on the 7-14 Feb 04 Eastern cruise. We might have been shipmates and not even known it :earsboy:

This is pretty funny. I just got this really cute thing from Disney in the mail. I'm wondering if anyone else has gotten it. It came with a little book with park maps in it, a packing list and this very personalized letter, even with our name in the header.

The letter reads: Here's something to make your visit in September even more magical. We want you to have the most magical vacation ever--after all, this is your first trip to the most magical place on earth.

HUH??? Surely you have me confused with someone else!! This isn't even my first trip this year!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I don't know why I got such a laugh out of this, maybe I'm just REALLY excited to go!!

I'm noticing a pattern here....
Mary's docs were delivered when she stepped out for some errands....
bunnymkc's docs were delivered when he/she stepped out to the post office....
now I see that grumpy-1's docs were delivered when he/she stepped out to Wal*mart.....

(sorry, don't know your real names/genders)....

I think if you're waiting for your docs you should go away. Run an errand. Head to the grocery store. Drive around the block a few times....

Seems like the UPS man likes to sneak in when you're gone and deliver them! ;)

Another thing to consider to pack for younger kids is the Crayola Wonder products. They have markers, stamps and even finger paints that only work on the special crayola paper. They are great for the plane and even at dinner to keep them occupied.

We added on during the last member cruise. Or I should say my DH added on. I don't think he could resist the DVC crystal piece. (It does look really nice on it's lighted base.) The girls and I were sleeping in our cabin and DH decided to go for a little walk and "maybe" talk to the sales reps. When I woke up in the morning we had another 100 points.

WOW Debbie!!

What excitement!!! :scared1: Nothing that wild happened to us there, we just took the bus tour. My favorite part of that cruise, (besides the food :teeth: ) was the beach at St Johns Trunk Bay. I had never seen so white and fluffy sand like that before!!! That was our first ever cruise and it sure made a GREAT impression on me!! We are hoping there will be a discount like the last member cruise so we can book another one soon...most likely a 7 day double dip!!  We were in cabin 7068 last time ( I only remember because I looked at the cruise doc's that we saved :rotfl2: )

No docs here yet either, but this is about the time UPS comes around our neighborhood, so I'm waiting...and waiting...and waiting...

Don't know if anyone was following the sentencing of the BTK serial killer here in Wichita. He was like a dark cloud hanging over the city for 30 years. Now he's in prison for the rest of his life. He was really demented. I feel so sorry for his family...and of course for the families of the people he killed. Maybe the healing process can start now.

Well, on to happier thoughts!! Can't believe it's only 2 weeks away. Don't have anything laid out to pack, don't have pirate costumes yet, don't have a magnetic door sign! Aargh!! pirate: Gotta get busy or I'll be walking the plank!

I know, I couldn't believe that she didn't even make a week without getting sick. And, she's been healthy since early summer. I actually got Emily up this morning and she sounded a bit stuffy, but she said that she was fine. We got her to school and when we got into her classroom, she had a runny nose. I went to go help her blow it, and noticed that she was warm. We basically turned around and went back home. The teacher said that one of the other kids had stayed home the day before with a fever. So, I'm sure that's where she got it.

Chris and I were talking that if things are still going around the preschool the week before the cruise, we just may keep her out that week too, just to keep her healthy. We'll see, I guess.

And yes, you and I chatted late into the evening last Friday night. But, it was very, very fun!!!

Hi Gail,

What cruise did you go on in Feb 04? We went on the 7-14 Feb 04 Eastern cruise. We might have been shipmates and not even known it :earsboy:

Mike

That would have been cool, but it was just a 4 night that we went on, it was that week that's Presidents week. My sister and her dh were going and she kept calling here bugging us to go. We finally gave in, booked the cruise, but didn't tell her, until we got down there the night before the cruise. Needless to say, she was a bit surprised and I was so proud because I was able to keep it a secret for a week! That's saying alot since I talk with her pretty much everyday and I was busting at the seams trying to keep it a secret. :teeth:

Another thing to consider to pack for younger kids is the Crayola Wonder products. They have markers, stamps and even finger paints that only work on the special crayola paper. They are great for the plane and even at dinner to keep them occupied.

Oh I love those Crayola Wonder Crayons. I bought it for my dd, but I colored most of the pictures in the book. I showed it to my sister and she went and bought one for herself. We love to color and those books and markers are so cool!

After receiving the docs, I read from cover to cover, the Passport info enclosed. Some interesting things, First DCL gives some suggestions for what to pack.

THERE IS NOT ONE MENTION OF BLINKIES!!! That must be amended!

I also noticed that ESPN is still listed as as a plce to hang out for adults. I thought that was converted.

I also read that no coolers or food could be brought on. That is not something DCL enforces, is it? I know I have brought on a soft pack cooler in the past.

Now, should I try to get in chat again?

Myabe I'll try a different computer! :badpc:

DH keeps asking-what are you so happy about?
I GOT DOCS!! He knows nothing of all of this pre palnning chit chat. I told him he has no idea!! :rotfl2:

Congrats to everyone who got their docs today!

We just got in from the fest. Walked in the gates at 4 pm when it opened and stayed through the last act. Heard some great music today.

Blarney - a local Milwaukee group who is a favorite of ours

Brigids Cross - a group from Cleveland that is great

Liam Clancy (of the Clancy Brothers) one of the names in Irish Music

Leahy - a group out of Canada

oh and a band you all might have heard of OFF KILTER! They were wonderful and closed out the night!

Luckily the fest doesn't start until noon so we can sleep in.

Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Tip Of The Day

Looking for a spot kind of off the beaten path where you can relax, read or maybe listen to some tunes? Well then head on up to deck 9 and the Cove Cafe!

If you are also into speciality coffee drinks this is the place for you as well.

It is adults only and has large woven chairs outside and inside has a collection of big comfy chairs. There is a large screen tv, some games on the tables, I even saw a couple of music listening stations. I've only been to the Cove on the Magic but I think the Wonder's is pretty much the same.

Here's a tip - the computers up here are usually not as busy as the ones down on deck 3 if you want to get on the internet.

We are hoping there will be a discount like the last member cruise so we can book another one soon...most likely a 7 day double dip!!

Come on and join the 5/27/06 double dippers. We've already got a good number of DVC member cruise ppl on there.

And, best of all....we've got Mary and Mark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! doesn't get much better than that!! :)

But, Emily is running a fever (after only 4 days in preschool for the year). It's amazing how quick they get sick once they are back in school. :earseek:

Insert Twilight zone music here. On my double scoop thread we have a mom who said her little girl, named Emily, is sick after just starting school this week!!! I think that's a sign you need to join us on that cruise too!!! :)

Mary, Thought you were going to sleep in…. you are tough to beat to a good morning post. Thanks for the great tips. Very Very good.

The big question is this: Is Off Kilters show different that when they are at WDW? I just think they might be a little bit bawdier away from the mouse. Inquiring minds want to know.

Congrats to all who got their docs yes this is really happening and not tooo soon for me. Will have nadda, zip zilch for days off plus some travel, before we leave so we are starting to pack this evening, and doing a little at a time. Then we will forget what we packed tear the bags apart to find whatever it is we thought we forgot. Repack asn so the circle of travel life goes on. Sad but true.

We actually started about a week ago. Started to put stuff on the spare bed to pack and could not find the shirts we had received from Kay. Actually spent a week plus looking for them tearing the room apart. Finally found them last night in a new lunch box.

I really need this vacation and it can not come soon enough. Gotta get SCUBA Class stuff together.

Good morning!! Two weeks from right now, we'll be packing up the car and driving over to BCV to spend the day in the pool. Ahhhhh!!!!

Emily's fever is gone now, but it looks like she has a little bit of a cough. I still can't believe that she didn't even make it a week before getting sick. It's gonna be a LONG year.

Scott well I was going to sleep in but my internal clock had me awake at 6 am (which is late since I'm usually up at 5) :) I'm sure I'll grab a quick nap before we head back to the fest today.

To answer your question. Yes Off Kilter's show is a bit different when they aren't on Disney property. For one thing it is longer (over an hour), a little bawdier and a lot LOUDER! They do their usual plus some old school rock as well. Wish we could see them again but the other times they are playing are against things we want to see more.

Nope, but we've only done the 4 day to Nassau and CC. I would NEVER miss CC. But if I do end up going to Nassau again, I would probably stay on the boat. We've done the dolphin encounter and the Atlantis tour, there's really nothing more I'd want to do there.

We have always gotten off the ship. The last time in Nassau, we got off the ship for a couple of hours just to walk around and then we were back on the ship enjoying the jacuzzi.

So I guess it is just me! That's why I wanted to know.

This will be my 4th Wonder cruise-2 were w/ family and one was w/ friends. Only one of those trips did DH and decide we better get off the ship, other than at CC.

So waht did we do on board? Adult pool, sipping cocktails, reading, spa.

I would in the future like to go to Atlantis--someday.
I am not a big strawmarket type. In Nassau, DH walked passed the market and found a beach to sit on that we could have a view of the Wonder. The kids were on board in clubs, so we didn't want to stray too far.

DS has asked if we can get off the ship this time. :rotfl2: After the cruise he has asked-Where did we go? I guess I really should have the kids get the local flavor. Of course, Key West is a port that I am looking forward to!

Hey Squid check out this site. I think that is the Magic in the background. It's still a bit dark there so it's hard to tell.

I have it bookmarked because my sister and her dh are on the Aug repo, so I wanted to capture a picture of the ship in each port for them.

Mary-Glad you had a great time at the Celtic fest. You got me thinking-there is a Celtic Fest this weekend in Hunter Mtn.(catskills). we used to go all of the time, before kids. DH played the pipes for FDNY, so we were heavily involved. At the end of the fest there are over 400 pipers who march down the Mtn. It is a sight to see and hear! Maybe we'll have to check it out.

You poor man 91 weeks till you retire. I don't think it's a good idea to start counting so early, it makes the time seem to drag. I stared counting when I had less than 4 weeks to go.

It will take 4 months to do the exit paperwork. LOL At least it gives me a goal.

Lunch break then off to the pool for the rest of the class.

Hope the room tour is early on in the cruise, gotta keep the place neat LOL. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain....

Gail sweetie, I think that is the Queen Mary. It is on display in Long beach I think that is it. She has 3 stacks and the Magic only has 2.

But that just shows when they designed the DCL ships to look like the Ocean Liners of the past" they succeeded!

Oh well the Wonder will be at Canveral tomorrow.

Yep, no rules, no formal sign up. You bring stuff, you exchange. Although I am keeping track and we have 19 who have posted that they are planning on it. YIPEE!

I went shopping this morning, didn't have any problem spending another $30 on scrapbook stuff!

Seems like the UPS man likes to sneak in when you're gone and deliver them! ;)And I went to Indy to visit my sister and DD, and when I got home, the docs were on my coffee table. My mother-in-law brought them in for me along with our mail.

I am doing the mental checklist-driving myself crazy!
Do I have... Do I need..., etc.

Anyway, a couple of questions:

1.I read in the docs you can check-in at the resort if you are doing a combined Land/sea type trip. Would this apply to DVC resorts or only Land/Sea Packages thru DCL?

2. Do all of the members have to be present to check-in at the port? For example, if kids and I check-in for us and then DH parks, etc, can he check himself in later?. We are doing car rental so I am trying to figure out the most expeditious way to get me on the ship!!!

3. RE:Pirate costumes for kids pirate: pirate:
Are your kids willing to participate in the costume aspect of Pirate Night-if so hwta are they wearing?

Noreen I can only respond to this one question. I believe the check-in at the resorts is only if you are booked on a DCL land/sea package. Plus since our cruise is a charter what you get at check-in will be differnt than a normal cruise. For one thing we'll have the voucher to redeem if we want one of the special pins.

Ok, I'll try to answer these.

My understanding is that you do not have to have all members present at check-in. You can check in with the kids and then have your DH go to the same CM that checked you in, and he will show his ID and the CM will give him his KTTW card.

3. RE:Pirate costumes for kids pirate: pirate:
Are your kids willing to participate in the costume aspect of Pirate Night-if so hwta are they wearing?
I am going to make quick pirate costumes for the girls. I'm just using plain white ts that I'll cut the bottom & sleeves jagged. Then, I'm making them cheap black skirts and a red sash. That's it. Same thing for myself & DH, except DH will wear black pants.

Wow, it's been quiet today. I just realized that we have over 7800 posts. For a while there, I thought that we were going to make 10000 posts by the time that we cruised. But with as quiet as it's been, I'm guessing that might not be possible.

Anyway, I know that we can make it to 8000, and maybe even 9000.

We have 2 weeks to go, and I want to get to know everyone, even those that don't post much (but still read everything). We know you're out there, come on out of the woodwork and start chatting!!! :cool1:

I liked the last fluff question a lot as I have a good friend that cruises regularly on DCL and I don't believe they get off the ship that often, in fact I know they don't at CC as she is not a big fan of the beach.

Went to the scrapbooking store today and Matt was brave enough to join me (I think it's his first and last trip). Spent a TON but they had some awesome stuff I couldn't pass up for the grab bag and of course for me. There I was going "one for me, one for my invisible friend" lol. Are we putting these in something fancy like a gift bag or just a regular scrapbooking bag? Just want to make sure I am prepared. The check out lady was asking all these questions and when she caught on this is what she said "so you are going on a Disney cruise and doing scrapbooking and an exchange with total strangers you met on the internet?" YES!

I discussed pirate outfits with Matt today and he wasn't too keen on dressing up. He said he'd wear his Pirates of the Caribbean Tshirt and possibly an eye patch/bandana. For the theme night are jeans appropriate and allowed? Don't want to get in trouble. Of course I don't have a POC tshirt so now I either have to create one or buy one when we arrive. Suggestions anyone?

We went to a GWRRA chapter fun day.
Goldwing Road Riders Assc.
Each area of TN has their own chaptrs, but all the monies raised in TN from fun days go to St Judes.
We went to one in Reelfootlake about 1/2 hours from Memphis.
It was very, very hot.
We do wear riding jackets which are great.
They keep the sun off and are vented os the air passes through.
But, I wore shorts, because i dont have rieing pants.
So my legs got burned.
The point of this post, is I hope I'm done peeling by Sept 4.

Squid, I think you are right about the ship. It was early morning and still very foggy when I first looked. I did talk to my sister after they boarded the ship - if she could get a signal I'm sure I would hear from her everyday. DH and I went shopping yesterday and we were discussing the cruise. The sales clerk at the store asked which cruise we were going on and we said Disney. Has anyone who has cruised before had a problem with the shrimp?

On Cindy's suggestion, we made Emily a paper chain with the days left until we leave on the "Mickey boat". She's very excited each morning when we cut off one of the rings.

I'm glad it's working for her. Sometimes a visual is easier to kids (and adults) to relate to. :) .

I can't believe 14 days from today

In many ways, it been a long time coming. But, in a lot of others, it seems like just yesterday that Gary and I had 3 phones dialing in trying to book.

This type of trip planning is new to me - sharing the experience with DISers. I've really enjoyed spending my time here waiting it out. I wonder if I'll ever have this type of experience again on a future trip. It's been fun and I'm going to miss it when we're through. :( Okay, enough sappy for today. After all, we still have a trip to go on. :teeth:

Here are my answers to the questions from yesterday.

1. I graduated high school from Elk Grove High School, Elk Grove Village, IL (Amy Elgin Larkin is about 10 miles from where I live)

2. I am currently employed as a home daycare provider. I have 6 daycare children full time Monday-Friday in my care.

3. My dream job would be -- I don't know. I'm pretty much doing what I enjoy doing. If I were to have made other choices, I probably should have continued with my early ambitions of being a school teacher.

Yesterday at dinner I was trying to explain all the "fluff" to Matt - you know, blinkies, door magnets, Henry, fish extenders and Mrs. Lips. Well when I got to the fish extenders and Mrs. Lips he LOST IT laughing at me. He thinks we are all crazy and that some lady Mrs. Lips is coming on our cruise :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

edited to add - Ok you can't just see the pictures but you can click on the link and see them! Notice the reflection in the window. That's our hubby's.

I saw them clicking on the links. :cool1:

I will show Cameron Nick's picture when he gets home. I'm sure he's going to tell me he didn't know Nick had a little sister. :rotfl2: It will be nice for him to put a face with a name.

We have never had any problems with the shrimp, and have never heard anyone else saying they had problems with the shrimp, we have been on 11 or 12 Disney cruises, so we have had lots of chances to eat the shrimp.

There is ONE problem I have with the shrimp. You have to peel it. I'd rather shovel it in as fast as possible and not have to work so hard for my food. After all, I go on vacation to RELAX, not "prepare" my own food for eating! ;) ;)

That's why I bring John with me on my cruises - he's my shrimp peeler, but he does have his limits on how much he will peel for me. :teeth:

I'm having trouble with the DCL website, and wondered if anyone else is too. Whenever I click "Reserve Excursions" in the Shore Excursions section, no choices show up. I get a message that says "You may have applied filters that are affecting your results" but as far as I can tell, no filters have been applied. The drop down boxes read "All Ports" and "All Excursions." I can access Spa ressies just fine. Shore Excursions worked for me until about a week ago, and I did make some ressies, but after I canceled one of them, nothing seems to work. I thought at first it was my computer, but tried on a different computer and got the same results? Any one have any ideas?

Jenny, we just went through this last week. I was planning on bringing our originals (for me & Gary) with the footprints until I asked here about carrying them without creasing. I found out there could have been a problem with them being accepted.

Gary went to the court house in Rolling Meadows (as we were all born in IL). There was a green form that he needed to fill out -- date of birth, mothers maiden name, fathers name, city of birth, legal name. Gary & the kids went to work on the 1800's farm today. They try to keep it as close to that time period as possible. They left here about 6:10 this morning and didn't return until almost 10. The house was so quiet, I got to sleep in until the dog started wrestling to go out. Sometimes, I just can't win. :(

They had fun over there doing farm chores. Cameron & Gary got to clean out the animals stalls (for this we pay? ). Walker got to help feed the cows and horses. They all worked on making an old fashion breakfast. Walker helped in the kitchen chopping up onions & picking things from the garden. They look forward to it every year and always enjoy it a lot. Not really my cup of tea, but I might join them one of these years.

Cub Scouts had their back to year picnic today. A beautiful day here -- no humidity and even a little bit of a nip in the air when we sat in the shade. The kids did the obsticles course and we all attempted to play baseball. It was a fun couple of hours.

While we were out, Gary was hard at work finishing up those magnets. When we came home he was hard at work cutting them out with my creative memories cutting tools. I'm sure he has some grand plan for our door. Who can believe two weeks from now we'll be sailing.

With all the rain we had the last couple of days and no humidity, it was perfect weather for some gardening. Two bags of weeds later, we're tired out. Gary just finished up dinner and I need to hit the shower. Cameron's in bed at 9 tonight (whether he likes it or NOT) with school starting in 2 more days. Something tells me it might be an early evening in our house. Sounds like it's ify about chat tonight for a lot of us. I'm planning on stopping in. :flower:

At the price of gas that's one expensive nap. But I hear ya. I did that too when the kids were little. I always hated when they'd fall asleep 10 minutes from home and they considered THAT their nap. Whereas if you could just GET them home and GET them in their bed you'd get a couple of hours from them! No - the only version I have shows lots of pixels when you try making it bigger.

Yes we are wearing our DIS DVC DCL shirts on sailing day. We'll wear ours to the port and the 3 pm DIS meet. Depending on what time we get as far as dinner rotation we may change for dinner between the drill and sailaway so we can stay up on deck longer and watch us leave (we have early dinner).

I see it isn't the one on Blond Giraffe but a shop called Kermit's Key Lime shop that sells many many things with Key Lime...from candles to cookies to candy.

Kermit's is where we always go. Yummy stuff there. There is also a Kermit's in Mount Dora in FL if anyone is close to that. Grandma Lightbulb will ship us things from there now and then.

At the price of gas that's one expensive nap. But I hear ya. I did that too when the kids were little. I always hated when they'd fall asleep 10 minutes from home and they considered THAT their nap. Whereas if you could just GET them home and GET them in their bed you'd get a couple of hours from them! Many a trip we were singing at the tops of our lungs trying to annoy them enough so they'd stay awake! ;)

And you wonder why they are giving Mike the gross tasting Bertie Botts Beans (I'm sure I killed that spelling). :)

It looks like a cool place with lots to choose from. We may have to check it out.

Cindy - I never heard of this. Where is it?

Huh? I've been out of the loop....
Isn't main dinner 6:00? Or did I miss something? (I wouldn't be surprised if I did!)

Yeah, I warned them NOT to give me any gross ones b/c I can't drive, laugh, and cough and sputter at the same time. I did eat bacon (tasted like bacon bits) and grass (tasted like pulling a stalk of hay and chewing on it) But I drew the line at vomit and booger! :earseek:

On the Wonder they are trying different dining times for each rotation. Say if you start at Triton's your seating starts at 5:45, then AP starts at 6:00 and Parrot Cay starts at 6:15. It is supposed to help with congestion and lines for before dinner photos etc. I think it is still going on so we may see it on our cruise.

We found it b/c it was part of the walking tour we took back in May of '04. Then we went back there on the 10 day. We *may* make it back this time. Depends on how Grandma Lightbulb is feeling and if she's up for the walk. We're thinking maybe just pirate museum b/c it's close to the dock. No real plans....I do like that. Relax, relax, relax!

I think, (I think, don't quote me on this!) there are 3 main dinner times now for each seating, 5:45, 6 and 6:15 to break up the mad rush for dinner!

Oh, hmm....KT won't like it if ours is 6:15...that means 15 minutes later getting to the kids' clubs! :) Typically that first night we do the "can they have their meals when we have our appetizers" trick....to get the kids out early. :)

That's our plan as well. Relax!

Speaking of Grandma - how is she doing? Haven't heard from her lately.

Got an email from her today. She's been exhausted. Tires very easily. She's doing some sort of weekly maintenance chemo. Starting to pack for the trip. She's getting very excited. :)

I know, I actually said that to Chris. We can't do that, gas is too expensive. But, his logic was that it was maybe $3-$6 dollars, or very aggitated children this afternoon. I went with the drive. We actually were driving real slow in all the fancy neighborhoods with mansions on waterfront property. Basically, we were dreaming!!!
