Cindy - yes we first met up at the Chicago area meet in Gurnee (the only one we've made it to). We had lunch at Cracker Barrel followed by setting up shop at the food court in Gurnee Mills. That's when I brought out the scrapbook.

Mary (IluvDisney) and Gail (#1 Mouse) saw the same scrapbook when we went to a Detroit, MI meet the following year.

You know we've never stopped at a Waffle House. We always usually eat breakfast at Cracker Barrel. For lunch on the road we look for either a Chick*fil*a or a Sonic. Two things we can't get around here.

I've only been to a Waffle House once on a road trip from Chicago down to college in FL and my mom got sick (I don't think it was the food, but I associate it anyway). We've got them ALL over down here, and I never, ever think about going there. But, we did get a new Cracker Barrell just about 2 miles away, and now we go less than ever. We used to make special trips to the one on the other side of Tampa. But, now that it's practically in our backyard we never go.

We have a couple of Cracker Barrels near us (not super close but an easy drive) and we never go to them. Seems to just be on road trips.

Now if we had a Chick*fil*a or Sonic near us we would go much more often. So maybe it is a good thing we don't. :)

Mary's scrapbook is great! Yes, we got to see it when they ventured out this way one weekend.

We have a Cracker Barrel near here, but never go to it either - we do go to Cracker Barrel on our road trips. I agree if we had a Chick *fil*A near here we would go all the time. Not famililar with the Sonic - but I did have a shake from there last August when we were in South Carolina, and it was excellant. Maybe it's best we don't have a Sonic around here.

After reading the breakdown of the kids, I feel bad were not bringing our 11 yo dd. She would have a blast with the kids. Ok, bad feeling over! We are going on a cruise in December and because we have to work around 3 college/work schedules and hers, she will end up missing a few days of school just before Christmas break so I didn't want to take her out for the week in September too.

Okay, I have a cracker barrel, chik-fil-a (or as one of my sisters calls it chik a fil) and Sonic all close by. Any one want to come and visit??? Isn't it funny how you have certain places you like to eat that are never close enough. Guess that is why they are "special". When we travel to Michigan we have a list of food places we have to hit while up there. A&W drive in use to be one, but with us now having Sonic (had it for dinner last night) A&W isn't as necessary as it was in the past (gotta love their root beer though). Also my latest craving when going north is Olga's. Hey Gail, since you are flying down in September maybe you could bring some down!!!

Back to crusin info.

Hey everyone! Well, we're still planning on dropping by WDW this weekend. Does anyone need anything while we're there? Souveniers, pins, etc. I know that we'll all be there in about a month, but just in case, I figured that I'd offer.

Thanks for the offer Amy - I have my extra bag already to go - you know for all the stuff that I really don't need but buy anyways! I tell John everytime we go that I won't be getting any souveniers cuz I don't need anything and everytime we come home with a suitcase full. Darn that Disney!

Have a nice Birthday trip - don't forget to get your birthday button!

Cheryl that is one nifty organizer - different size pockets, hooks, mirror, definitely the cadillac of shoe holders! Mine is just a plain old plastic shoe holder. I might swing by BB&B today and look at getting that for my dd's room.

We are going to MK! We'll probably bring the girls early to the barbershop. Emily and Chris need a haircut and I'll probably break down and get Madison's first haircut done.

Then, I'm sure that we'll head to Fantasyland, and then everywhere else.

My DS got his hair cut in the Magic Kingdom for his 8th birthday. They spiked it, made it blue and spinkled "Tink dust" in his hair (it was mickey head confetti). The whole group got "Tink dust", Me, DH, Grandma & Grandpa. It was great. I'll have to post a picture to the gallery

Sorry, but I just had to post this somewhere... I finally got up the nerve to mention Pirate Night to my husband, whom I thought would be mortified at the thought of dressing up... But we happened to eat next to a special effects store tonight (I did NOT plan that!) and went to see the pirate stuff after we ate and he just went overboard! (Oops, no pun intended.)

I had already emailed DVC to make SURE we were having a Pirate Night (THAT would have been ugly), and now he's talking about getting a gold tooth, and fake scars ("AAARRRRR"), and a gun (whatever pirate guns are called) (can't wait to see THAT go thru security), etc, etc.

I shouldn't have doubted my big sweetie (who skips with me at Disney - and yes, he's 52 and I'm 42). :wizard:

Cindy probably knows about this, dunno who else is local to have heard about it.

Yesterday there was a truly horrific accident in a local intersection about a mile away from us. Two cars upside down, three dead.

Today the news turns out it's even worse, if that was possible.

The driver of the car that caused it was a 20-something female that was attempting to kill herself by crashing her car.

They estimate she was going in excess of 70 on a 30 street when she hit the two stopped cars. She's fine, in the hospital, going straight to jail with three charges of murder 1(I think) when she's released. Truly sad, and a bit scary, that's a street we go down almost every day.

Mark, I had heard about the crash. Not the update until I read this and then looked it up. Very sad.

What I will never understand is why if someone wants to kill themselves, they pull other, innocent people into it. How sad for those people who were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Here's the story I found.

Unbelievable.
Did you ever notice when someone tries to kill themselves like this or similiar ways which would involve others, that the person who thinks they would rather be dead is the one with the least amount of injuries if any and someone else dies. It just boggles the brain.

Off of that subject. Is anyone else up right now because they are waiting for midnight to get the new Harry Potter book?

Hi Beth,

It sounds like your DH is gearing up for some fun.

I thought I would find the same resistance from my DS10 but he surprised me. We were looking online for pirate attire and he willingly picked out a pirates outfit. I hope when we receive it he's still willing to wear it. :confused3 I know how fast he can change his mind. My DS5 also picked out a costume and I plan to order tshirts for DH and me.

My DS5 had a pirate themed birthday party this year. We have a lot of extra bandanas that I'm planning on bringing along (to share with friends :teeth: ). I also ordered a bunch of pirate gold coins. I don't know what to expect from pirate night and haven't done a lot of reading about it intentionally so some things are a surprise. I bet we're going to have fun.

We lucked out as my DS is not a Harry Potter fan. If he starts reading on of the books, he really gets into it. But not as a rule.

Well we have Harry Potter in hand an DS Nick is reading it now. I told him he can read for 30 minutes then off to bed!

We stopped by the local bookstore earlier in the evening because they were having a little party for the release, but ended up at Walmart and buying it there.
We also ordered the UK version from Amazon, that should be showing up in the next few days.

Thanks so much!! Actually, that was the EASIEST photo shoot that we ever did. We all couldn't believe that we were done in about 10 minutes. We always just go to Sears, and the manager know us because Chris plays Santa in the photo studio at Christmas. Anyway, she was even amazed at how easy it was to get their pics taken. I'm sure that it won't be so easy next time.

Any plans to come up to Chicago around Christmas? I would love to hire a Santa to come and visit with my daycare kids. I'm sure they would all react like this :scared1: and I'd react like this :rotfl2: . I've just never done it because I don't personally know anyone who plays Santa and would never let a strange man in a red suit into my home (even if he did have some good presents stashed in his bag ;) ).

When he shows up while we are sleeping, it's another story. ;)

It's so funny, because a couple of years ago, we were getting Emily's birthday pictures taken in Oct. The asst manager said, "hey, would you like to play Santa here in the photo studio". Chris said "what are you saying?" referring to his belly. Anyway, she said that they were looking for someone to do Santa and take professional pics with the kids. They offered to pay him and that he would get a 20 sheet picture package for free. We said sure, as long as we could get Emily done before anyone else (because that place is a ZOO for Xmas pics). They like him so much that they had him do it again last year.

The first time, they had 2 Santas. Chris for Saturday and another man for Sunday. Last year, Chris did it both Sat & Sun. This year, the manager is talking about doing it for a whole week because it was SO popular. They even call Chris "Santa" whenever we go in to get pictures taken.

The best part though is that Emily was so scared of Santa. She loves the characters at Disney, but she wouldn't go near Santa (strange man, I suppose). She even liked the easter bunny at the mall, but not Santa. Anyway, in order to get Emily's picture with Chris, I had to have her watch him put on the Santa suit. But, she still believes in Santa, because we tell her that daddy only plays Santa at the picture place.

OK guys, we just got a mailing from DVC about the cruise. Included was info on making shore exc, Palo, spa and kids stuff reservation on line, Shore Excursion info for Key West and CC. Info on PI party and getting you limited edition stuff. Finally a name preference postcard to mail in if you do not have Internet access.

Here is my question, use just first name or full name?? Wish I knew what was planned as it might make a difference. I.e. coffee mug verses a certificate , suitable for framing.

Here is my question, use just first name or full name?? Wish I knew what was planned as it might make a difference. I.e. coffee mug verses a certificate , suitable for framing.

I'm guessing it is just a first name. If your name on your reservation is Scott but you normally go by "Bud" (have no clue how that name came up) you would send in your card with your nickname. Our names on our reservation are listed as John and Gail and that's what we go by, so I didn't make any changes. I think it was Cindy (cgcw) that mentioned that her legal name was Cynthia but she goes by Cindy so she needed to send in that change. On the first Member Cruise our lanyards had cards in them with our name and home towns, but that was all that was personalized. There is no telling what they have in store for us. I'm sure this was probably more of an answer than you wanted - sorry :earseek:

Is anyone else up right now because they are waiting for midnight to get the new Harry Potter book? :wizard:

We're not HP fans, but I did want to go to Meijer last night. They were having a release party. I wanted to see that kids that were there dressed up. My dd-18 was at Barnes & Noble and she said you couldn't move in there. She later went to Meijer and bought her book - haven't seen much of her this morning!

It was me, Gail. I know my luck, something would be nice and personalized with the Cynthia right smack in the middle. As much as I would love whatever it was, it would bother me forever. Because of having a given name and preferring a nickname, we named our children Cameron & Walker so that there wasn't a chance of a nickname.

By the way, my uncle was called Bud all of his life. His given name was Clarence. :confused3 My dad became Buddy (the younger brother) and his given name was Robert. :confused3 How that happened, I wish I knew. :confused3 I should have asked when I had the chance. :guilty:

Believe it or not that problem arises often. Or I have to tell him to stop writing or typing on the computer because he loves to write stories.
It's a beautiful thing!

I love to have these type of problems. I remember the first time I found Cameron reading on his own (past the required school assignment time). It made me feel like it did when he met all of the major milestones as a toddler.

Cameron also loves to write and is in the excelled writing class for 5th grade.

Photo Gallery Update!

We have two new updates to the photo gallery. Stop by the gallery and meet Karen (apurpebrat) and her mom Kaye as well as the Peter (Yensidfan) and his family.

I enjoy seeing the faces to go along with the names. I've very bad at remembering names but usually can remember faces. It's nice to put it all together. Thanks.

I think Sam & Nick will have a lot to talk about this summer!. :sunny:
Nick will look like a little he has grown a new appenage until he finishes the book. :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

LOL... I can relate... Sam is a "multi-reader", so he always has 2 or 3 books going. Right now he's reading The Magician's Nephew along with the new Potter Book (although I think he'll be concentrating on Book 6 until he finds out all of the dirt!). I love the fact that he likes books! It's great to have a child thinking that taking away their reading material is worse than taking away the TV. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We do the 1 hour of TV/Computer/Videogames per day during the school year, and I have friends who can't figure out how I do it. Between school, Scouts, sports and reading, I don't think he could fit much more than an hour of the others in anyway. ;)

Scott,, I just bought a shorty wetsuit at costco. $29 for a large that should fit me. Is there any reason to bring it on this particular trip to Castaway Cay? Are you bringing yours? How about Lynn? I thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and buy one since the odds of going to a cruise are high when it is not summer and I don't like being in water that is not real warm. Also, should I get one for Billy, Angela , or Kristen?
Bill :cake: :cake: :bday: :bday: :magnify:

OK guys, we just got a mailing from DVC about the cruise. Included was info on making shore exc, Palo, spa and kids stuff reservation on line, Shore Excursion info for Key West and CC. Info on PI party and getting you limited edition stuff. Finally a name preference postcard to mail in if you do not have Internet access.

Here is my question, use just first name or full name?? Wish I knew what was planned as it might make a difference. I.e. coffee mug verses a certificate , suitable for framing.

Scott - I had asked DVC about that when we first heard about it here. It is for first names only. You only need to register if you go by something other than a given name. For example if a womans name is Elizabeth and she goes by that she does nothing, but if she goes by Betty then she should register that. Hope it helps.

Bill,
The price is great, we will bring our shorties for this trip, in May we brought full suits. The water should be warm at CC in early Sept, I would guess mid 80's, warm yes but if you are in it for awhile the convection effects will start to take their toll on the old body core. As you say chances are pretty darn good you might be taking another cruise.

Happy Birthday on this thread to you.

Thanks Mary for the response, we should be set. Great job on the site you guys, the pictures are great.

Can you tell me what the surprise is and what we would need to do if we decide to participate? Also if we can still participate.

Our kids are 14 and 17.

send us a PM about the details.

Nick is a "multi-reader" too. His plan is to just work on the Harry Potter book and get that completed. He was getting a little caught up with the anticipation of the release of the book. He already has asked when the next movie is coming out.

Tonight at dinner, my DH asked me what a konk kooler was. Guess whose been lurking? :confused3 Hi Honey! :wave2:

I've never seen my DH as excited as he's starting to be over any vacation we've taken in the 20 years we've been together. Gary tells me it's our first cruise and he wants to help plan it. :confused3 Maybe it's middle age creeping up on him but this is definately a first. It's nice to have some help in the decision making. :teeth:

One would think with the excitement in our home today that this cruise was next week. The kids have their pirate outfits tried on and put together. Later this afternoon, we went to the mall because DH needed to look for some clothes for the cruise.

We should have spent the day today getting read for our trip to Hilton Head. We leave a week from today. For anyone whose been there, it's an easy trip to pack for. Swimsuits and shorts. We don't even bother taking dressier clothes for dinner as we do a lot of cooking in the villa. The couple of times we dine out, it's usually a casual affair.

We'll get back and the cruise will be right around the corner. :teeth:

I'm sure we'll have a great time at HH. How could we not? :confused3 I haven't read all that many negative comments about HH. Good thing. But, those of us who have been and plan to return really need to stop talking about how great it is there. Happy 7 weeks left anniversary to all

I am desparately trying to catch up with all the posts... don't count me out, it's just that life is too busy right now!

I called DVC on Thursday and was told there wouldn't be a pirate night... instead they were doing a TROPICAL night... has anyone else heard this. We are planning on packing our pirate outfits pirate: I do hope the cast member I sopke to was wrong...

Also, has anyone heard if there is a schedule yet... when the tropical night will be? Now I am even wondering if there will be fireworks.

We just got the update in the mail from DVC on Friday, which told us, as repeat cruisers, we could start booking Palo ressies on the 20th... They're a little late on that announcement. They also mentioned the great opporunity to see the sunset at Key West. My questions: Are they planning on adjusting dinner/shows accordingly, or, if you want to do the sunset watch, you miss the shows, etc? Does anyone know? Thanks!

Mark... the accident you wrote of was absolutely awful, and to have happend right near you.

Bill... HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :bday:

Scott... Thanks for your help! I did get Joe a nice "toy" for his birthday. He will have it when we cruise! :goodvibes

I concur. They will bring on the fireworks in Key West as they are required to shoot them off after they leave port where they are loaded. Captain also told us they are required to notify ships within a certain distance so as to not think it is a distress signal from the ship! Imagine that!

We will be one smashing group of pirates as we leave Key West!!

the mopeds are a blast. However, since there are three of us, we have to get two, so we figure this time we will try the electric car. I had a blast driving a golf cart around Peachtree, Georgia on golf cart paths, so this is probably a similar thing, just dodging cars instead of golf balls!

On pirate night, do you go to dinner dressed as a pirate? Or is it for a party later?
Would there be a show that night?

I've been wondering if the entertainment on the member cruise will be the same as their "normal" cruises, i.e. the nightly shows. I kind of don't want to miss any of their regular shows! Does anyone know about the entertainment?

I saw on Mark and Mary's scrapbook that the last cruise had a guest performer one night. Did that replace another show they usually did at that time?

Thanks,

I have no pirate outfit, but will surely enjoy watching others in theirs. I don't think I will have time to get one set up for us either.

If they are doing pirate night on night 2 does that mean that it's our repeat night for the same restaurant as night 1? Anyone know what happens with those of us who stay in town for the sunset party that was mentioned in the email from DVC/DCL?

Ough - just read on the restaurant board that Sci Fi is closed for maintenance from 9/6 - 9/13 and we have an ADR (ps) for the 8th when we return to WDW after the cruise. Just when I felt like I had everything under control. Darnit!

WOW, we have PS (ADR-whatever!) for Sci Fi on the 2nd, so I guess we are just making it!

And, yes, I have my packlist all done. I actually have a standard packlist that I use all the time, that I just add details to. I'm the ultimate compulsive planner.

And about the shows....on the last member cruise, Andrea McArdle performed. There was still the Hercules show, Who Wants to Be a Mousekeeter (I think this was all DVC questions) and Dreams.....so I'm not sure which show she replaced. Either way, she was great. I saw her MANY years ago on Broadway when she was the original Annie when I was a kid, so it brought back some good memories. :goodvibes

Cindy I love the boys Pirate Costumes. I hope Nick will look as good.

My husband said if there is a tropical night that would be easier for him, one less thing to pack. I want a pirate night so I told him there better be a pirate night or I will have to go buy a coconut top and grass skirt for tropical night. :scared1: Ha Ha Ha :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl:
Needless to say he rolled his eyes and gave me the "Yea right" look

I truely have avoided this board for fear of being disaapointed if I had to cancel our cruise :sad2: .
However, it looks like we are A-GO-GO- :cool1: :cheer2:  GO!!

So. let's see-I need to get some pirate gear inorder-AAARGH!!

Questions: Can I still get the shirts that were previously mentioned on this board by Mark(I think)?

Also, is there a way to find out our dinner itinerary prior to cruising-I woould hate to book Palo's on a night that we would go to one of the other restaurants I would not want to miss.

Are there any "swim w/ dolphin" options?

Other than the DVC organized meet at Pleasure Island are there any other meets?

We just got back today. It was an extra bonus trip we won--off property. We still managed to visit OKW-went to Olivia's for lunch one day. It got me excitied to return for the cruise?

I can't wait to see what people end up with for Pirate costumes!

Kay is the one who was working on the shirts, and I believe that she ordered some extras, so I would send her a PM.

I have no clue when we get our dining itinerary :confused3

Great question... I think there might be some available at Key West, but not through the cruise line...

I believe that Mark and Mary are planning one on the ship right before the sail away party, and some of us will be meeting for a scrapbooking class...

Glad the cruise is a go for you nezy.

On Saturday before the cruise we are meeting at 3 PM, but I don't remember where. I think it is near Fulton's and then we were going to make our way over to PI at 4 for the DVC meet. As HookdonWdw mentioned I believe there is a meet before the sail away party. If it's the same as the First Member Cruise it will be on Deck 10. I'm sure Mark or Mary will keep us updated on all the specifics - stay tuned!

Look back through this thread for MarkRG - he has a link to the site he has set up with our info for the buttons (just in case you haven't given him that). There is a picture of the buttons he is making in his sig.

On previous cruises we didn't find out our dining rotation until we checked in. So if that is the case it might not be of much help to you.

Hi Gail! I was putting that below together while you posted. :)

Due to the influx of new people, I guess I should repost.. I've been a bit busy, have gotten 6 new emails to make updates from, just havn't coordinated the updating part yet, been a short weekend.

I'm making buttons for all the Dis people going on this cruise and with my wife, WDWLVR(Mary), arranging the meets.

I have set a firm cutoff date for button of August 12th!
I must have all final requests by then.

Please visit the website for detailed info of where/when the dis meets will be.

S.S. Member Cruise Dis Meet website(click) (http://monorailgreen.info/member2005/index.htm)

If you want to add the logo to your signature, look at the first post in this thread for instructions.

Now, time for my usual cut and paste part for the buttons...

The button sample(this is a real button folks!):

http://monorailgreen.info/member2005/scannedbutton.jpg

Important instructions!! Please read thru carefully!

I have compiled a name list of the buttons I have information for.

I need everyone to proofread theirs and make sure I have it right.

If you have a 'Don't have' in the Member column that's because I don't have that information from you. It is optional, I will simply not add it to buttons that I don't have it.

If you want to add it or see anything that needs correcting, email me at member2005@monorailgreen.info.

If you don't see your name on this list at all , you need to send the following info to the above email address:

Your Dis Name and real name (only 1st name goes on button)
Names of anyone else going you want buttons for
Your cabin # (required)
When you joined DVC and where you own (optional)
Will you be attending the night before the cruise DVC event at Pleasure Island(click for info)? (http://monorailgreen.info/member2005/email/email4.htm)
Here is the link directly to the list: Member Cruise Button List (http://monorailgreen.info/member2005/list.html)

It is also linked from the webpage.

Thanks for looking, as you are the final check on what I make for you. http://disboards.com/images/smilies/smiler.gif

I'm behind again.... I was on a short vacation to Vegas and it looks like a lot happend while I was gone!

Is there a pirate night? Not sure if I should keep looking for pirate wear for everyone. I found a pirate t-shirt while in Vegas for my DH.

I am also wondering about the electric cars? Are they safe for children? Since we have never been to Key West I am not sure what to expect.

Pirate Night, YES as we leave Key West it begins. I would say look to be dressing up, and that includes dinner which is special too.

Electric cars, per my DW Mary, Alikat99/Amy is looking into that for anyone who is interested, pm her if you want in. We might be able to get a group deal. They are basically big golf carts. Howsafe they are for kids? They do have seat belts, don't know how a car seat works with them. Might want to ask Amy.

I have also just finished adding the Key West info that I posted in the thread back a ways to the website. No need to dig for it now.

I'd guess, depending on when you get back, you might miss dinner. Which would be a shame.

The following link is a quick and dirty scan of the Pirate menu. Pardon the rough cut and paste, as it don't all fit in the scanner at once, and I was more going for readability than anything.

Hello from WDW!

I'm enjoying some time at SSR this week and just got home from a nice day at MK - I figured that would be a great place to start my visit this time esp. since it's the official birthday of Disneyland. It was a fun day and I have lots of catching up to do here - plan to take some time to do some reading tomorrow after a restful night.

Thanks for the menu scan Mark and hello to all my friends - see ya real soon!

WDWLVR
07-18-2005, 05:56 AM
Sunset will be at 7:41 that day. Which means it is kind of in between dinners. Those of us on early seating should be able to catch it if we hurry a bit and those on late seating should be able to see it before heading into dinner.

If you stay in Mallory Square you might have to miss dinner in the dining room and opt for something quick up on deck 9. The good news is that usually on Pirate night they also have a late night buffet up on deck 9.

The one time we caught the sunset we did it from deck 10 and it was wonderful! Disney had a band set up on the stage by the goofy pool playing nice music and they had a bar set up there as well. That was back in May '03.

On the 10 day last year we got back to the ship just it time but it was a little too cloudy and the sunset didn't go into the water like it did in '03.

Hi Mary! Hope you continue to have fun down there!

To what little buisness I have this am,

I have updated the Button List (click to check it). (http://monorailgreen.info/member2005/list.html)

Included on this list is intent to attend the Pleasure Island precruise meet. If I don't have the info or it's wrong, you can either email me at the button email or pm me here.

I am going to cut and paste again.. pardon me if I do this more often than I have, but with the cruise getting close, we might continue to get people dropping in.

And a reminder I have a firm cutoff on August 12th!
Nothing sent to me after that is going to be addressed.

Hey everyone! Thanks for the birthday wishes!! We had a blast at WDW over the weekend. We went to MGM on Saturday and then to the pool at Wilderness Lodge in the evening. Then, we headed to MK on Sunday. Chris, Emily and Madison all got their hair cut at the barbershop. Madison did really well, and she looks so cute. She looks more like a toddler now, and less like a baby. We also realized while we were there that it was the 50th anniversary of DL, so we got some limited edition pins. We got home about 7pm last night and I crashed pretty early. I'm still tired today, but I've been hanging out with my mom here at home, and then we're making a nice steak & shrimp dinner on the grill tonight to celebrate!!!

Hey Guys...I haven't posted in a week, but I've kept up w/ reading 'em (even when I was at DBF's family's shore home this weekend!) As usual life is hectic and as I read these boards I get more and more excited...Mary, I loved your comments several posts back about your feeling that this is going to be a great cruise - I agree...I'm that much more convinced that I need a vacation NOW! I've been suffering from a terrible allergy flare-up, work is crazy all day long w/ kids coming to the library for dif. programs or to get their summer reading and my school work is piling up (3 weeks to go w/ that though!) Now for the catching up:

I bought my shoe organizer. It's 19" wide - I hope it fits :) I have more shoes than is humanly necessary and I have a habit to pack what I think is "enough." Note to self - buy another!!!!!

I'm a little confused about the possible change of Pirate's Night. I know Mary had it on a good source and I'm going by that, but I got all my stuff together and I'd rather pirates than tropical. More info as you get it would be great.

I have EVERYTHING squared away w/ the exception of actually packing. The only thing hanging in the air is booking the electric car. Alikat...is this a definite thing you're handling? I had PMed you. If not let me know and I'll book it on my own.

Some of you mentioned using a planning binder. I do the SAAAAAMMMMMEEE thing : ) My DBF happened to be reading over my shoulder when I was at one of the posts discussing the binder use. His exact words, "Oh my, there are OTHERS like you!" It's pretty funny how this group is so homogeneous. For example I love Cracker Barrel too. Non are near me, but we always go on road trips or make a special trip just to go to one : )

Finally, I don't think I mentioned this but my parents and aunt each closed on a condo in Celebration this past February. My mom and aunt are teachers so they're headed down this Friday for four weeks. I'll be going down on 8/6 for two weeks. I CAN'T WAIT. I've been wanting my parents to get a place there since DAY 1 and now I'm doubly blessed w/ two condos to go to. Just thought I'd share.

Sorry for the length - more convinced that I should post more, write less :flower:

Hi, all. I was at Bed Bath & Beyond on Saturday and discovered a really cool over the door bath organizer. It had hooks for over the top of the door and elasticized hooks to secure it to the underside of the door. It looked like it would be very stable that way and wouldn't flop around. Also the packets were made out of mesh and had a shallow one and a deeper one on each one. The mesh might not work for things that are pointy or skinny, but I thought it would be alot easier to clean. Probably just throw it in the washing machine. You wouldn't have to wipe out each pocket with a wet washcloth. I tried to find it on their website but couldn't. So, if you happen to be in a BB&B, you might want to take a look at it. I think it was $19.99 or maybe $29.99. Can't remember, but it would hold alot of stuff.

Yes, Chris and I are still working on the electric cars in Key West. Basically, we tried the guy who's the cheapest on the island, but he wouldn't even work with us. Heck, he wouldn't even make reservations for us because it's a holiday and they don't take reservations on holidays. It's a get there early and maybe we'll have a car. He told us that if we're there when they open, that we'll probably get a car. The problem is that we don't even arrive in KW until just before noon.

So, we called a couple of other places and Chris finally found a guy that will give us a group discount. He told Chris to call back a few weeks before the cruise and they will work out the details. So, I would guess that Chris will call him back in early August for more details.

I'll keep everyone filled in on the details through this board. And when the time gets closer and we need final numbers, then I'll ask for confirmation of individual interest.

If you have any questions, put them up here on the boards (because I can't stay away) or PM me.

Mary, you beat me to it this morning. You are an early bird.

Between reading the Passporter and reading online, I now have about 12 dinner outfits for our 4 day cruise. :earseek: I haven't been shopping for real clothes (my work attire is shorts/jeans/tshirts) and I've had a lot of fun picking things out. But, now I know I have much to much and need to sort through some of it and make my final selections.

So, here's my long drawn out question. What do woman wear for dinner? We are not doing Palos (that would be easy).

Here's what the Passporter says for dress:
Tritons - upscale casual
Animator's Palate & Parrot Cay - resort casual

I would never consider wearing jeans or shorts. But, can someone define what upscale casual & resort casual are? Being I don't have an extensive wardrobe because I don't need it and haven't worked outside of my home for many years, I just feel a bit out of touch. Are slacks and a blouse upscale casual? Skirt and blouse? Are capri's resort casual? Are sundresses? And the last thing I want to do is got on the ship and find out I made the wrong choices. But then again, if I'm going to error, I'll error on the side of dressier is better. Thanks. :)

Cindy - any of the options you said would be fine. Mark usually does dockers and polo shirts. I do pant sets or a skirt/top. Capri's would be fine as well and I'm thinking of bringing a capri outfit. We also have matching Disney shirt/sundress so I think we will bring that as well. Oh and of course our outfits for Pirate night!

For the days shorts, swimsuits and a top to cover it will be fine!

Thanks, Mary. That's good to know. I spent most of last night tossing and turning, changing outfits in my sleep. What I need to do is pick out my favorites, return the rest and then stay out of the mall.

I'm also very anxious for the cruise. Planning that has been a thrill and the excitement is building. I don't know how my kids are going to start school with the antipation of the cruise being a couple of weeks later.

And, we're also all ready to go to Hilton Head this Saturday and in my spare time, I'm planning a trip for me & Cameron to go back to WDW in October. I never would have thought that having 3 trips so close together would get mind boggling but it is starting to.

LOL, I was thinking the same thing Cindy, and then the school sent out classroom assignments and schedules for this school year. I looked and saw that midterm reports come out on the 7th, so I told Sam I was going to check with his teachers and make sure his mid-term grades were high enough to pull him for the trip.

He rolled his eyes and said, "Yeah, like that'll be a problem..". :rotfl: :rotfl: Ahhh... the joys of raising an honor roll student... :rolleyes1 He's never gotten below a B, but I figured the knowledge of a grade report before the cruise will keep him at least a little focused on school work...

Cameron does well in school too. We don't have honor roll until the upper grades so I can't use that as a parenting "tool". :rotfl2:

Midterms -- is that 9/7? When on earth does Sam start? Tomorrow? :confused3 I think you must have mentioned it along the way but WOW. What happened to the days when school didn't start until after Labor Day? Oh wait, that must have been the "olden days" when I was a kid. :earseek:

The pools here now open around Father's Day weekend and close by mid August.

ROFL... Sam goes back on 8/8. Alabama schools are on that "modified school year" thing. Don't feel too bad for him though. He gets a week off in October, two weeks at Christmas, a week in March for Spring Break, and a week in April for Easter. After all of that (and misc. other holidays/teacher days), he STILL gets out of school at the end of May.

I grew up in MA during the stone ages, and I remember going back to school after Labor Day, and getting out around the 3rd week of June... ahhh, the good old days... :goodvibes

After all of that (and misc. other holidays/teacher days), he STILL gets out of school at the end of May.

I would actually prefer that kind of a schedule. I personally think summer is a bit too long and know the kids would excel having more of a dedicated schedule towards learning.

A couple years back, our principal wanted to pilot year round school. The PTA was in an uproar and looking for parents to write letters discouraging this idea. I was asked to NOT write a letter because it would be right up my alley. I could see their point in that it would have to be an entire community on year round schooling - not just our school. I know it would be difficult to arrange schedules when younger kids were on one schedule and older kids were on another. I'm also in a different position because I don't have a need for daycare (as I have my own ;) ) and could see how scheduling childcare could be a major problem for working parents.

8/8 :earseek: I'll tell Cameron he shouldn't complain when he starts on 8/23. :teeth:

I like his schedule. He gets just enough time off in the summer to enjoy himself, and just as the "I'm bored" comments start, it's time to get ready to go back to school. As you said, it also helps to increase subject matter retention and limit the amount of re-teaching needed in the fall. Plus, it's nice to have the break in October. A little reset time in the fall is a good thing... as is time off of school during the F&W Festival. ;)

When we were in Hawaii, they did what your school was looking at, and it was a NIGHTMARE! All of the schools were on modified schedules, but their days on/off didn't line up. I had one in HS and 1 in Elementary, and their schedules tended to run a few days off of each other. If you had kids in middle school, it could be different again...

Since I was either a SAHM or teaching at the time, it didn't affect me too much for childcare, but it was a total PITA when we were trying to plan family trips around vacations, since they didn't line up. They were trying to straighten it out when we left, but I don't know if they ever did.

Walker is going to start kindergarten in a 3 full day program. I think part of the decision was because of the consistency. When Cameron was in K - they went 2 1/2 hours a day 5x week. How much could really get done in 2 1/2 hours a day?

Walker will go 9-3 3x week. Not only will he get the extra session a week but he'll be better prepared for 1st grade when it comes around. When Cameron started 1st, it was a tough transition to a full day. I'm hoping to avoid that with Walker.

I would love for our kids to go back the first of August. I'm guessing since our summers are so short they won't ever go to that schedule. It will cut too heavily into tourist season here. Our kids go back for 2 1/2 days then get Friday and Monday off for the Labor Day holiday.

Back in the day we always started after Labor Day too. Gotta love the school schedule operating around the pool opening and closing schedule :rotfl: Gotta have priorities!

I really like that kind of schedule. That's what I put Sam in also (except his was 8 - 2). He had Tuesdays and Thursdays at home to decompress, and went to school on MWF. I was so worried about him feeling like he was in school too much, and he ended up being upset because he couldn't go on T, TH :rotfl: :rotfl:

The problem with a 2 1/2 hour day is that when you add in 20 minutes transition for arrival, 20 min for snack and 20 min for departure, all you have left is 90 minutes. I just don't think that 90 minutes a day 5 times a week produces the same results...

Cindy is the 3 day K program being done in the public schools there? What a great idea. I agree the 2 1/2 hours doesn't give much time to get a whole lot done. At least with a full day they can spend some quality time on individual things.

Kids no longer get to be kids like we were - that's for sure. When I was 10, I was still playing with dolls and Barbies with my friends. I can't imagine the 10 year olds today doing that. :confused3 Cameron hasn't really played with "toys" in a long time.

I was just saying yesterday that it won't be long and we'll be able to grow back into the size of our house. :rotfl2:

It sure seems like life is rushing kids to grow up rather quickly. I often wonder what life is going to be like when my kids are my age. :earseek:

One of the good parts about moving was that a lot of the toys Sam had been ignoring were taken out and played with (how could I forget what a PITA all those small pieces were???). OTOH, I was trying to "reallocate" some of those toys to other homes. I guess I'll have to wait until school starts... :rotfl2:

To Cindy cgcw, another answer to your clothing question, you will see women wearing everything from formal to casual at any given dinner, so you would have to be really extreme to not fit in. I wear skirts or what most folks would probably consider casual dresses to most dinners. It seems that lately that Tritons is not as fancy as it used to be, but I will wear the best dress I have packed there, and Scott will usually still wear a jacket or tie. It seems that the only thing frowned upon is shorts. I have also worn capris to dinner. Also, if you have 12 outfits for 4 days, sounds like a good reason to me to book another cruise to get use out of those outfits!

Scott and I are still around, even if he has not been posting lately. This board is getting very chatty, I can't always get here every day, and sometimes it takes me a very long time to catch up. We are also getting excited about this cruise. I agree with the sentiment that if there is not pirate night, there will be enough of us in pirate outfits to take over anyway.

Most of our public schools are still the traditional 2 1/2 hour schedule 5xweek. There are a couple of charter schools where they are full days.

Walker's preschool ended up offering the 3 full day program. So, he'll stay on there (at a mortgage payment of tuition :earseek: ) but I know it's the best option for him. They opened enrollment up to only 15 students. And, he'll have the same teacher (who we  ) that he's had the last 2 years.

Compare that to the public school and it really was an easy decision to make. My only hesitatancy came from him not going to the public school and having the same kindergarten teacher Cameron did -- who we also  . That teacher helped me make the right decision for Walker by telling me that she felt he would excel in that type of program.

The one thing I will say is that Walker doesn't have any special needs. If he needed help with speech, OT or any other aspect of his well being, the public school would have definately won out. We have a fabulous school district when it comes to early childhood and IEP's.

Cindy - I plan to wear capri's or sun dresses at night (except maybe pirate night) so I think what you have planned will be fine. What I do with my capri's is dress them up with a cute top that is a bit dressier that what I would wear to work (or has less coverage such as a sleeveless top or dressy tank top).

Question - is it frigid in the dining rooms to the point the ladies normally wear a jacket?

Will our room have hangers or should we plan to bring extras from home?

Thanks! Julie

I don't think I've ever made it through a dinner without putting my sweater on! Even when I've left it in the room I've run back to get it because I am always cold. I think it's that red hair and fair skin I have. After spending all day in the sun it's just way too cold inside for me!

I have enough outfits now to cruise for about 30 days straight. Not that I've needed to buy anything else, but there have been some great deals out there so I bought more. I got Robert, Jamie and I matching Disney clothes from Disney Direct on clearance. I am sure others will be wearing the same exact tropical clothes we are! We are planning on wearing the first night.

We are going pretty casual this cruise. I am not lugging any major formal stuff all the way across the country for Robert. I have a dress that rolls us pretty darn easy.

So I am going pretty tropical looking casual for most of this trip.

comfortable and casual.........that's the look!

My girls are still young, but my oldest goes to a private preschool that goes up to 8th grade. They start school on August 15, and they get out at the end of May.

When I was in school, we started back to school after Labor day, but by the time that I was graduating HS, they moved to starting the week before Labor day.

As for dinner dress. I have a bunch of tank top style dresses that I wear. They can be dressed up or down so I can't look over or under dressed! For the girls, I'm going to do sundresses. Even though they are 13 months apart, I dress them like twins! I don't know how much longer I'm going to pull that off! Plus, I'm thinking photos with the characters and how cute they'll be all dressed up! I got a bunch of dresses on clearance these last couple of weeks. Can you belive winter coats are already out?? Don't feel bad, my girls are 2 1/2 years apart and I dress them alike all the time. Heck, my mom sews and I'm constantly having her make them matching dresses. As we speak, she's making them matching dresses with a purple fabric with Disney princesses all over it. And, we have a pink princess fabric that we've had for years that she's going to make some dresses out of (we bought it all out, about 15 yds, several years ago, so we still have tons). But, my oldest wants to bring all of her princess costumes that my mom has made for her (Ariel, Aurora, Cinderella, Belle, Jasmine). The bad part is that they take up a LOT of room. They are made of satin with petticoat-type underskirts. They are beautiful, but I might let her only bring 2 of them.

Amy the dresses sound beautiful. Ah........Let her bring them - what's another suitcase ;) I use to dress my two oldest girls alike for the holidays - but it's been many years since they would let me do that.

I haven't decided what I'm bringing - John will bring dockers/button down shirts/polo type shirts. He will bring one jacket for dinner. For our last 7 night cruise he bought a tux - I wished we had a formal night on the 4 night - he looked so, so, so................oh la la in that tux! (I hope he's not lurking :teeth: )

I did some reading up last night about the Spa. DBF and I are interested in the Rasul (Surial Bath) . I went to "My Cruise Plans" and looked under what's being offered from the spa and didn't see this listed. Do you think it will be offered on this cruise (I know the physical location will be there) or is it booked up? If it's still avavilable what will it cost?

Also, I have REAS and I would prefer the Spa Taster over the Well Being since we booked a Couples Well Being for a CC Cabana. However I don't remember the Spa Taster ever being listed. Is this just something I tell the massage therapist when I show up for the appointment?

I'm not planning on being at the ship until 1:00. I'll be swinging by Celebration in the AM and then we're stopping at Ron Jon so this pre-booking really saved us time and running around!!! :Pinkbounc

She does stuff for others too. Heck, she's done wedding dresses for my friends. She made outfits for a group of my friends. And, the other great thing is that she has a home embroidery machine with all kinds of Disney images.

We didn't book anything ahead of time - just going with the flow. We will be to the Port as soon as we get done with breakfast at Chef Mickey's. Our reservation is for 8 AM. I like to walk around the ship and take pictures before everyone gets on board. You can never have enough time on the ship!

Scott... Hmmmm Walmart vs. Colwater Creek??? I vote for WALMART hands down :rotfl2: BUT I ALWAYS vote for a SALE too! :goodvibes

Maybe since Brandon is coming too, I can get Joe to wear a grass skirt. Since I don't know our rotation I'm not sure how to plan that one out... We'll definitely bring the pirate outfits, and probably the tropical shirts too. If I knew we would be at Parrot Cay a night other than Pirate night, the grass skirts would be a go! Also, Lynn + Linda... I'll be bringing the light up flippie floppies! :rotfl:

Hey Linda... sent you a PM about dining...

We too are taking it easy... very laid back for this cruise... still burned out from all the planning/packing/unpacking from the PC cruise.

Yes....I can pack the grass skirts. No problem!

BTW......was in Walmart yesterday.....all the blinkie blinkie flip flops were $5 a pair. So called DD and of course, she wanted a pair. I should have stock in Walmart!

We had so much fun with the blinkie flippie floppies (as we called them) on the Panama Canal cruise.

They came from Walmart, and yes... the NEAT thing is that they light up when you walk! :goodvibes I actually stood in the shoe section dropping the flip flops to see what colors they blinked! :rotfl2:

If Walmart still has them, they are FUN. Bought mine early in May and they still blink. There were children's and adult sizes. Our Walmart was all sold out, but it sounds like in seaulater's neck of the woods they still have some!

Is this your first pair? I was not interested in them until I saw them at Nordstroms one day. They are extremely light. I love my Birkies and would have a hard time giving them up. But, they do get heavy. It would take about 10 pairs of crocs to weigh the same amount.

I would have probably tried a pair on if they were not in the process of clearancing them (none in my size). Maybe one of these days I'll venture into the sporting goods store when I heard they carry them.

I admit, this is my second pair....I easily get addicted to things! I have a sea blue pair that I love. While they definitely don't replace my Birkies, they come a close second. They are SO light it's like you don't even have shoes on your feet. I LOVE funky shoes  and these get alot of weird looks, but are so comfortable, I don't mind them. They do come in "normal" colors, but I prefer the attention getters! I'd let you try mine on when we are on the ship, but you may not give them back to me!

Need to find blinkie flip flops.....Walmart is open 24 hours!

What is VMK? It's an online game (free) where you go around the virtual park and play games like the jungle cruise, pirates and fireworks. There is also a Hidden Mickey search. You chat with other players, have your own rooms where you can host parties and games and collect pins. It's highly addictive, there are LOTS of DIS members that play and we have our own hangouts. Check out the whole new board for VMK here on the DIS too! But hear my warning....VERY ADDICTIVE!!!

If I go out at 10pm to find flip flops DH will have me institutionalized!!

Now, for seasoned REAS cruisers ... how do I request the Spa Ta/ester (seen it spelled both ways) instead of the Couples Massage? It's not listed as one I can book online (or is it Alikat?!?!? ). Do we just tell the massage therapist when we show up that, that's what we want?

Also, I should I pack something Tropical too? When will DCL/DVC give us an answer?

Lastly, I forget what time the ship starts sailing away from PC....

I see the VMK question has already been answered. Fun game. I don't spend as much time as others in it but do enjoy it. I look it almost like chat but with little characters.

We already have our next cruise booked - the May double scoop group. Like Amy with the Cruisetoberbest group our May cruise is full of friends. At least 10 couples from our December '04 cruise booked the May one. Plus there already was a great group on the thread. With two stops at Castaway Cay these double dip cruises are quite popular.

Even Cameron was disappointed to hear we're spending A day at CC and not multiple days this cruise.

I'm fairly certain we'll book a double dip. :teeth: I just have to see when it fits in best to minimize the days off of school. I supppose I should do that before we cruise so I have a specific one in mind ;) .

Cindy - that's kind of a tricky question. A lot of it has to do with current booking prices. Some cruises that are already more full might be higher than other cruises that still have early booking discounts - and those discounts can change as the ship become fuller. Hope that doesn't confuse the issue too much. Plus we don't know if there will be a special incentive to book on board this trip or if it will be the normal one. I would definately go with at least one date (if not two or three) to see what kind of offer you can get.

We'd love to have you on the May cruise if those dates work for you.

Well our next cruise will not be DCL. It won’t be any cruise line. We are hosting a SCUBA trip on a 65’ ketch in Feb of 2006. 9 days to the Out Islands of the Bahamas. Did it last Feb and it was great. Might try to talk the Captain into swinging by CC, if we get over by the Berry’s or Abaco.

I am scared to go to VMK, could be too time consuming.

Also excited about being at WDW this Christmas season, gotta love the parks at that time of the year.

I think Kay, has seen or has one of the DVC DCL items mentioned.

I just have the feeling that this cruise will be pretty laid back for us, as we have nothing set in stone at this time.

Lynn will be gearing up for multiple trips to Cove Cafι.

Thoughts of this trip will hopefully make the summer pass quickly.

Hope those of you trying for reservations today get your wishes.

I know - sorry about that. Let's use my May cruise as an example. We booked it onboard in December 2004. Got what I thought was a good price especially when you consider the shipboard credit that comes with it. About a week later someone is looking it up online and says the price has gone up. Sure enough we check out a quote for the same room type as we already have booked and the price is $1000 higher.

You see as Disney starts selling more and more cabins they offer less and less discounts.

Anyone who booked the repo cruise can tell you that the price was jumping throught the day as rooms got booked.

So a cruise that has a lot of bookings already will not be as cheap as another cruise that still has a lot of early booking rooms left.

Hopefully that made it clearer.

Good Morning Cruisers from SSR! :sunny:

The Member Block Party was a lot of fun last night - Dee Vee Cee was there for anyone who is missing her. I wanted to ask if she will be cruising with us but didn't get the chance. There was drawings for 2 huge baskets of DVC merchandise that cannot be purchased and other fun items. There was also a drawing for a Picture package and there's more ideas for family pictures coming from Disney and DVC. And there was a pin preview for pin collectors. There was a fun trivia game where 3 families were pitted against each other with some tricky questions and if the families couldn't get the right answer they went to the audience for the answer - I got one of them and won a prize!!!
And, the cruise was mentioned but I didn't see anyone else raise their hands as going except me which made David spot me in the audience and he seemed to remember me and says "hi" to everyone! I told him I'll be at the Member Meeting today at 4 and will let you know if I can find out anything else. I think I will mention the buzz about the DVC DCL ship deal that you are chatting about.

And, for VMK interested parties, I found out the other night while at MK that if you sign up at MK, you get bonus points and Mickey ears and other deals which escape my memory at the moment. So.... I signed up and will try and learn more about it when I get back home. Don't want to take too much time out of my trip right now except when I am at MK - seems like a lot of fun and a way to take some of the magic home with us when we leave. :earsgirl:

That's all I have right now - sure is a lot of catching up to do here when I have the time - off to have more fun.

Gail - before I forget - I like SSR altho it is a really big resort - I have a nice studio close to the main area pool and it is really quiet. Just enough room for me! I think you and John will enjoy your stay here. :wave2:

I'm less than happy as a first time cruiser. I'm on the phone with reservations, and they have confirmed that NO BRUNCH TIMES were made available today for first time cruisers. This is one of the few things I really wanted a chance to experience. Also very limited massage opportunities.

I think it's great to give repeat cruisers perks, but they should leave something for first timers. JMHO. I'm sure we'll have a good time, but this has really soured me on DCL.

Cindy definitely check out the prices before leaving home of the cruise you are interested in so you can see what type of deal you will be receiving when you book on board. Take into consideration that you will also receive a stateroom credit for your next cruise for booking on board.

We have another cruise booked for this year in December. We are cruising with RCL on Mariner of the Seas. This will be the first cruise that we are taking with just our children - no friends or family members. Now that I think about it, I don't think we have ever taken a vacation with just the 6 of us. They are really looking forward to it.
