Are you kidding, no way was I gonna take those pirates from you after all that work! That would've been rude and uncalled for!

I was over on the DVC forum, and someone said that they'd been waitlisted at VWL for 16-23 December and it came through in August. Now they've been notified that the area they were going to be in is being renovated and they've been moved to OKW. So I guess its just as well you got all your SSR days set.

Btw, shopping on Friday sounds fun. Maybe Jas and I can do DisneyQuest on Thursday. I'll see how much my Sis wants to do it. Even if we do DQ, I think we'll be done by around 3pm since we plan to get there when it opens. Plus we can leave and go back.

:flower3: I appreciate the pirate: . You could have easily got him too. :goodvibes

Everyone on here is going to read all my posts later and wonder "What was she thinking?" :lmao: Yes, I will admit I am an insomniatic and IT IS NOT FUN!!! It can be VERY lonely being the only one up all night. Like I stated before, I am sooooooooooo tired. But, I can't sleep. Maybe, this cruise will be my cure! :rolleyes1 Otherwise, I'll be the one up on deck 10 at 2 AM running around the basketball court. :rotfl:

Maybe, some of my words of wisdom can help others. I have a whole lot more in this tired head of mine. But, I honestly was too tired to type the words. So, I got lazy and started putting smilies. So, I do apologize to everyone on here for my rambles. But, it was all in good fun! :goodvibes

You can pay in either points or $$ for the cruise, but its only open to DVC Members - each member can book up to 3 staterooms. Next year's cruise is Sept 21-25 and will do a double dip at Castaway Cay and a day at sea. During the cruise they have all kinds of special activities and also special shows with guest stars. You also get a gift in your stateroom each night. Who knows about the lanyards now though! :rotfl2:

Member Services is taking bookings for the cruise from 9am to 1pm this Saturday. If you don't get on this Saturday, then the only option is to waitlist. Some folks are already booked because if you bought 250 points on the last member cruise, you got a Cat 6 stateroom on this one!

That was a nice little incentive for those cruisers. That cruise falls right around DD5's birthday. Hmmmmmmm? Maybe, I'll have Bill check to see what if anything we could do to move our early Sept cruise to that one. I wonder if they'd let us transfer the deposit to that one? I am gettng more leary on cruising right after the PC and before drydock. We'll see. :goodvibes

I have to take the kids to the doctor in a few hours. I am up now. So, I am off to start my day here in lovely Texas. Everyone have a great day and I'll check back with you later.

For those going down early, do you have enough laundry for the week plus whatever time you are going to be gone, or will you send it out on the ship? I can send out blouses and shorts and things. Never my underthings. I will NOT be spending any of our vacation doing laundry. :sad2: I can do that enough at home.

:thumbsup2 Alas, this is why we are homeschooling DS7. Like Stefanie, we live in TX too. He is currently in Second Grade. They start the TAKS test in Third Grade. He won't have any part of that! :sad2:

- Jennifer

As I said earlier, we enrolled in the GA Virtual Academy. We will have to test. In GA we are required to test every three years starting in third grade. As a homeschooler we did not have to show the results to anyone. Now that we are in "public school" , my son will be taking at least two tests each year. I really don't care because I know my son is doing well.

I posted a concern about my teacher on our Yahoo Group. No one has the nerve to post a response but I have received several private messages. Why are these parents so afraid of our poor teacher. I guess I realize I can just go back to homeschooling.

Hey thanks everyone for the hugs and cares for Ryan. He'll be ok. Last night he was running and jumping around the house again. After he fell asleep last night, I held an ice pack to his little face for about 10 minutes. It didn't do much, as this morning his right eye is almost swollen shut. But he's not hurting, because he decided to jump off the couch this morning. He's our youngest of four, and he's the first ER trip we've had, so we've been lucky.

I was just ranting about my child's teacher with a friend on another site. Yippee, I got 4 of the 7 passports we need today. It took exactly 3 weeks and 5 days, regular cost. So the two boys are a week behind, so we should get them next week. I have mine already, so it looks like we should have all of them by the cruise.

Forgot about the cost af all theose passports when I booked the cruise on the spur of the moment 3 weeks ago. Oh well, at least I did'nt spend the extra on rush processing. And now we have them.

Time sure is flying by :hourglass .......

Glad you got them! We decided not to worry about them this time - we'll apply for them when we get back from the cruise, so we'll be ready for any trips we might want to take next year :rolleyes1

When I was at that conference I went to Walmart to see if I could find any pirate halloween goodies since the boys bday party next year is going to have a pirate theme so I wouldn't miss out any steals and I saw the cutest little suits for only 29 so I picked 2 up. They are black with a very fine baby blue stripe. I actually found my dress at Ross it is all black with a sort of halter top look to it and is right under the knees, its really more of a cocktail dress instead of a formal dress but for the life of me I cannot find anything that actually covers up the chest area. I don't know why they can't make clothes anymore for women who do not like to show the world certain body parts.

You can be assigned to a table as big as 10 I think. Your table mates are other cruisers who rotate with you to different tables. It depends on the size of your party, and if you linked your dining reservations with anyone else. Except in Palo, there are very few tables for two in the main dining rotation I think.

I have to tell you that the best teachers are quitting because they are not able to teach the children their way and can't handle the "rules" where no one is really learning anything. ........The reason why I am getting my MLS so I can work in a school library and not have deal with the pressure of teaching a child how to pass a test....

They are doing that here in NJ too. I hate it. DD was in the highest math class, but she is supposed to have extra time to take test (she has a 504), but the teacher can't give her more time, because the class is moving so fast she is going to be behind. So they moved her down a level. They all learn the same material, but not at the same speed. DH asked, well if the other class is so fast, they must be learning more material. Nope, they will be taking the extra time to do practice tests. ***. You can't meet my dd's needs with the 504 because of this stupid tests??

That is true. We had a waiter on another cruise tell us he preferred when guests did their tips on account because then he had no cash that could be stolen. :sad2:

AmberDaClown
11-14-2007, 09:06 AM
He also told us a little bit about what he called the "onboard mafia". He didn't mean it in a bad way, but it was what life was like.

He and his roommate had a cabin steward which they tipped. He would also tip the head waiter for better table assignments, the kitchen staff to get his food up in a hurry and sometimes he would tip a co-worker to reset the tables after the second seating. They had to be done before he left the dining room for the breakfast seatings. If he was tired which he always was, he would slip someone some cash to set up his area so he could get a few extra moments of sleep.

I know if you have late seating, you eat on the last day at a second breakfast seating. If you are not going to eat breakfast on the ship, can you just walk off when they announce that people can leave?

Did you see our governor on the news yesterday on the steps of the capitol praying for rain? I am sure that will play well across the rest of the country. Something there about mixing church and state.

I heard a report on one of the nat'l networks this morning about the prayer meeting. The reporter kind of chuckled and said GA might get rain today. He added "less than 1/2 an inch". I think he thought the whole thinkg was rather silly. I don't care what works, we need rain.

I loved the ministers on TAR on Sunday talking about how they had prayed during the race, but said "We do not think g*d really cares if we win the Amazing Race." Very humble and very funny. I was sorry to see them go.

I am reading the most recent Nagivators (as my DD calls them) and on the last day it talks about settling your account. It is a fact of life that many people in America and who take cruises are living beyond their means and overextended on credit. I wonder would it happen if they could not pay their final bill because they had maxed out their credit cards?

Would they be forced to stay on the ship? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Yes, you can just walk off then. Don't forget that Topsider's buffet is open early for breakfast on the last morning. DH and I always go there then. It is very convenient.

The DIS is not cooperating for me. Way too slow today so I'm off for now. Have a good day everyone!

Thank you thank you for your answer!!! We figure we would lightly snack if anything and then get on the road for the drive back.

There is no deposit when you book thru DVC. You have to pay the entire amount at booking. So, if you book 2 people with points and 3 with cash you have to have the total cash for the 3, plus the $75 booking fee.

Still have 15 pg or so to catch up! That's what I get for going to sleep early!
Hey have some news. My DD 6 did her first swim meet Saturday, competing with 8yr and under and got 4th in Backstroke and 5th in 25mFreestyle and the only 6 yr or younger that beat her was the Coach's daughter that's been swimming for 2 years. DD started in August training. She's so pumped.

Wow, that's amazing, Mary. WTG for dd! I think when a kid excels that young, she must truly have a gift--good for you for spotting it and helping her along, also! :thumbsup2

Ryan (1) got hurt today pretty bad. He fell on our playground while running and hit his cheek and nose on a wooden step. I took him to the ER. Nothing broken, he might have fractured his nose, but Dr said it's hard to tell with him so young, and there's no treatment for it anyway. I'm uploading a couple of quick pics I just took.

Ouchies! That sort of thing makes your heart stop. Glad he's recovering well, and I have to say even with that big owie, he is as cute as a dickens.

We have good days and bad ones as the worst is to change clothes 10 times per day for both of us since Soy smells so much.

OMG, I had forgotten how awful that smells...ds had a realllllly strong gag reflex and could throw up a belly full of milk for no apparent reason. Bad enough to clean up, then there's the laundry you'd rather just heave in a trash bag and seal up...wishing you THROUGH this part quickly!!

today she was offered a position at a new bank here in town!! NOW I'M MARRIED TO A SUGAR MOMMA BANKER!!!! :woohoo:

Congrats Tina!! And I hope she told them she needs a week off soon. ;)

They applied money from our account to our card several times during the week.

:thumbsup2 Yes, it is my understanding they take out increments of money from your credit card to cover any costs you may have throughout the whole cruise. It may have been like in $300 increments. If someone else remembers, please chime in. So, when you spend that money, they deduct more from your account. Kind of like a toll tag system, where they take $40 directly out of our checking account if our toll tag account gets lower than $10. So, there shouldn't be a case where someone gets an oops at the end of the cruise :scared: Guest Services would contact them well before the end of the cruise if there was a problem with their credit card.

You can be assigned to a table as big as 10 I think. Your table mates are other cruisers who rotate with you to different tables. It depends on the size of your party, and if you linked your dining reservations with anyone else. Except in Palo, there are very few tables for two in the main dining rotation I think.

Tables can be bigger than 10...as of now we are a table of 15 :cool1:

We have never done Disney Quest. I really don't get what it is all about.

Its an indoor amusement park with lots of virtual reality games and rides. It sounds like fun, and something different. I've heard its best to go when the parks are open, as it gets crowded in the evenings when the parks close early. It can also get pretty crowded on rainy days.

And the one of the best things is that the cafe inside is run by the Cheesecake Factory!!

If you have little ones it is a ton of fun, it is also fun if you are somewhat into video games. I always do the "draw" classes, and the pirate ride is so much fun... kinda reminds me of the pirate chase here pirate: They also have this buzz lightyear ride where you sit in a "car" and shot "cannons" at the other people but you really need 2 people to do it :) . They have all of the OLD SCHOOL games too which we love :thumbsup2

Hopefully, they can catch her next time around. :rolleyes1 The tickets sold out within minutes from what I hear. But, I assume 90% of those were to ticket scalpers. DrHug had a very close encounter with a thong in the Rainforest. We were in the hot steam room, which is very tight quarters, he was sweating a bunch and so had his eyes closed. I was :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: One of my many funny stories about my love. :rotfl: So just be aware that anyone wearing a thong may become the butt of one of our family jokes! :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Ok.. so.. BAB story time..
When I was hired, I was not aware my Manager was leaving to go to the New Disney Store in Atlantic City for almost double of what BAB was paying him..

My friend of 11 years is the Assistant Manager of BAB and was up for the Management position.. Well she was over looked and they hired my current Manager..

Well it seems to be that Noone likes him.. :sad2: Everyone complains about the way he "manages" the Assistant Managers and the other Employees.. He never has the schedule done on time nor is it ever fair to all the employees..

Ok so I found out Yesterday that several people have called the Home Office on him and complained.. Soooooooo tomorrow at 7:30am.. a Big Wig is coming to our store for a Special Meeting... I don't go in til 10 am so who knows if I will meet Mr. Big Wig or not.. but if I do and he asks me.. I have a few things to tell him..

I wish I could be a fly on the wall at their meeting though.. I just hope that when I do get to work.. Everyone isn't in a Bad moood.. I'm glad I should only be there til 1:30..

:rolleyes1

This whole Hannah Montana thing bugs me. As with all popular concert events, ticket brokers and scalpers buy the tix and resell them WAAAY above face value. Let's be honest, this isn't The Police (which I went to see!) whose average fan has the bucks to spend...these are KIDS and their poor parents.

I wanted to buy as many tix as I could for the show near me in Albany, NY, just so I could give them at face value to some poor kid whose parents can't afford a $500 ticket.

I realize this country is built on the capitalist ideal...but this just takes it too far and kids suffer.

(When I run for Prez, this will be one of my "hotbutton" issues, along with making another Federal holiday between President's Day and Memorial Day):cool1:

Let's be honest, this isn't The Police (which I went to see!) whose average fan has the bucks to spend...these are KIDS and their poor parents.

I wanted to buy as many tix as I could for the show near me in Albany, NY, just so I could give them at face value to some poor kid whose parents can't afford a $500 ticket.

I realize this country is built on the capitalist ideal...but this just takes it too far and kids suffer.

(When I run for Prez, this will be one of my "hotbutton" issues, along with making another Federal holiday between President's Day and Memorial Day):cool1:
Having teen boys, I don't really follow a lot of the Hannah Montana stuff, although we have been known to watch an episode or two :rolleyes1

I have made some extra cruisin' money selling H.M. shoes and purses on ebay though :woohoo: That stuff sells GREAT! :thumbsup2

I just read a news story about a recent class-action lawsuit against Smiley Miley Inc and someone else regarding the fan club. Apparently when you join one of the benefits is supposed to be better access to tickets, but that obviously isn't happening.

When I was hired, I was not aware my Manager was leaving to go to the New Disney Store in Atlantic City for almost double of what BAB was paying him..

:rolleyes1

 hope your new manager treats you good....

Yes you do! Because each one is very important. We need to know if you are going to be joining the Thong Boys. :lmao:

I wonder if on the ship they set up "photography only" lines. Since we are doing the pillow case thing, we will not be worrying about autographs. It really is not like DD at 4 really cares about them, YET.

We think she will love her pillow cases though. I hope we can get TINK to sign.

Nope, although there are some character meetings where they do not sign at all and do only photo, but they do not set up separate lines.

Want to get even madder? The process to get a wheelchair seat and companion seat are this: When the tickets go on sale at ticketmaster you have to email them and request a wheelchair accessable seat. Then you wait for them to email you back, and at that point you hope they reserved you one. Then you confirm you want them and pay for them. It is done by email, you cannot buy them online or stand in line at a ticket outlet.

So, we did just that the day of the presale and did manage to buy 2 tickets at $53.00 each. One for my 15 year old daughter in a wheelchair and one for myself. Then later I went on gotickets.com to see if I could get one more companion seat. They were selling the wheelchair seating right next to us for $260.00!! They went and lied, saying they needed wheelchair seating, then scalped them. So, not only did they use computer software to gobble up all the regular tickets, then they go and lie to get even more tickets. That is pretty scummy.

I am definately not denying you your eBay profitability...I love eBay! And selling some HM shoes and purses doesn't hurt anyone...jacking concert tix up by FIVE TIMES face value is just wrong.

Seriously...what will I do when this cruise is over? What will I do with the hours I am on this board? :rotfl2:

Has anyone seen the Lion King (Broadway version)? It is coming to Atlanta in the Spring. The last time it was here I was expecting DD (5).

We saw it in Portland. It was amazing, amazing, amazing. :yay: Did I mention that we enjoyed it? ;)

Well have sessions with no signing is better than nothing. The rudest people I ever met at DL were waiting to see Buzz and all my DD wanted was to say hello and get a picture. The CM in the suit was WONDERFUL.

Speaking of eBay. We did some speculating on one of the "Top Ten" toys for Christmas. At least it is not the one that has been recalled. Now though we are thinking of returning them as I still see them in stores, but we are close to Black Friday so we do not know what we are going to do yet.

Our ebay id is: learningathome

We mostly sell Disney Pins - we go so often and are always trading, so we started selling some on ebay to help support our habit :rotfl2:

My DH's time on his job is uncertain - we're hoping between my company and an ebay biz that we can eventually bring him home fulltime. Of course that would mean we would need to curb our Disney habit, so we could put the money we make into paying bills :rolleyes1

The biggest problem we see with the possibility of being self-employed is the lack of good health insurance. We had a high-deductible policy for several years, as that was all we could afford and his employer didn't offer anything else. 1.5 yrs ago our youngest had to have corrective foot surgeries (one on each foot - 6 mos apart) and we had to pay a $5500 deductible. :scared1:

With his current, albeit temporary position, we have GREAT health insurance. I don't think I want to go back to the way it was :sad2:

The answer to this is for parents to stand firm and refuse to pay those prices. If the ticket brokers/scalpers cannot sell them then they won't buy them. Those poor parents who can't afford $500 for tickets to a concert just need to say "sorry we cannot afford to go". I really think a kid missing a Hannah concert is not really suffering. Not having money for breakfast is suffering. There are lots of things we adults would like to do that we cannot afford (round the world cruise for DrHug and I) and learning the lesson as a child that you cannot do everything you want is maybe a good thing.

:badpc: I agree! :lmao: I've wanted to throw this computer out the window many times. My favorite is when the man jumps over the desk because the other guy kept throwing things at him and the other men are just sitting there on their phones like nothing is happening. popcorn::

:sad2: No Hannah Montana concert for us this evening. Since this concert is so successful, I am sure she'll be back again. $$$$$$$$$$$ Bill told me to buy DD5 a concert DVD and she can watch that over and over again.:lmao: DD5 had the BEST time at the Gwen Stefani concert this past summer. So, I know she is itching to go to another concert. Her next favorite is Fergie. Maybe, if she comes in concert. I'll surprise DD5 with tickets to that. Yes, my 5 going on 15 year old daughter likes Gwen Stefani and Fergie. :rolleyes1

With that, I still haven't fed the kids. We had a late lunch. So, I'm off for now.

Evening All! :goodvibes

Am I the only one in a slight panic mode?

As of now I have two 6 foot tables end to end and some suitcases are on them labeled "girls", "boys", and "Mom/dad". There is a new rack hanging in the laundry room for "cruise clothes". I picked up the Disney medical form from the doctor today and am ready to fax it to the cruise line to authinticate we do need a wheelchair accessable room. 6 of the 7 of us now have some really nice dress clothes due to some great consignment shops and some super sales. 5 passports are in (yes I know we don't HAVE to have them), and I'll send the #'s to Disney later tonight. Pick up the dry cleaning tomorrow, started making the room lists (toiletries, etc) times 3 rooms, started packing the "medical" suitcase, last night got the hotel reservations in Kissimmee for the 7th, MVMCP tickets came yesterday, tomorrow is my last day off until Tuesday, did I mention I am a part time cake decorator at a VERY busy store and was told that instead of my 20 hours a week I should expect to put in 50 hours between now and Thanksgiving?, squeeze in a Hannah Montana concert (Monday) which is 2 hours away, picked up two mickey mouse ties at JC Penny's today, and then the thought accured to me... if we all get to bring 2 suitcases, how would I ever fit 7 people and 14 suitcases in my van?????

Is it time to panic yet????

I'm not in panic mode - but then again I'm not trying to buy/pack for 7 people who are staying in three staterooms, and the extra medical stuff too. Wears me out just thinking about it! :)

50 hours between now and Thanksgiving?!?! THAT'S a lot of cakes!
