Merry Christmas Eve from NC :santa:

I just finished transferring all of my photos to my laptop. My one fear is that I have misplaced a CF card. I hope it is at home in Baltimore and not on the ship. :scared1:

I'll try and post some later.

I hope it is at home too.. :wizard: Maybe still in a pocket of a suitcase?

I worked all morning.. ick.. I was suppose to be on call for 11 - 4 but at 730 am I received a phone call, is there any way you can work 9 - 2 today? I of course said yes, followed by I have a Viewing to attend tonight so it helps me out alot.. I also took the day off tomorrow "in case" DH decides we are going to the funeral.. For some odd reason, he doesn't really want to go.. :confused3 Funerals don't really bother him, so I am not too sure what's going through his head right now..

Anyway... I was told to expect tempertures back up in the 50's :cloud9: I really can't stand the cold anymore :sad2:

Hope ALL are well and enjoyed their Christmas

Sorry, Julie! Merryl--I'm eagerly waiting for the soup picture. Jim says he will post once the soup is posted and he wakes up from his nap, whichever comes first!;)

I said "Never again" at first, too. I'm one of those people who gets motion sickness everywhere, but had never been sick on the ship before. However, I realized that it really didn't affect my enjoyment of the cruise too much, and it gave me quite a story to tell the veteran sailor at work! We will cruise again, but haven't decided exactly when. We want to take a family cruise, but it's hard to plan with DDIL's fertility treatments and the fact that DS has to set his vacation up in March and it's not changeable. So we're hoping for some positive results in the treatment by March so that we can plan to cruise either before it's too late or after the whole thing is over!

BTW, I'm posting this from the new computer. Set up was a breeze, everything went exactly as I had hoped! I still haven't gotten this new computer hooked up to the household network, but I had to take a minute to stop and post here, right?

Beth

HI ALL! Well we are in total denial that the cruise is over! We have rebooked for Thanksgiving 2009! A LONG WAY OFF! But oh well!

About the motion sickness! - Matt & I wore the motion sickness patches the whole cruise - they work awesome! You change them every 3 days and forget about it. They are prescription only but we will definately do them again. We had one of our kids get really sick Monday but dramamine helped the rest of the trip for them.

well here is an update on my hubby:

recap: on Friday early am (like 2 am) he had pains so bad we went to the ship dr. and was seen - sent back upstairs, 2 hours later we went back down at 7 am - was there till after 11 am - never got off for castaway cay :( but his pains got better while he was on percacet - dr. wanted us to get off ship - boat to island and then fly to orlando but we managed to stay on ship till we got in Orlando - we changed plans and did not go to disney instead flew home a day early and went straight to dr. here.

He then sent us on for ultrasound which hubby did yesterday and they have sent us to surgeon ASAP and now he will have his gallbladder removed at 6 am in the morning!

so this was an expierence to say the least. He was to return to Iraq on Saturday but will now be home for 2 more weeks while he recovers.

Thanks to everyone for all the well wishes from before! Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas season.

Krisanne,
Thank goodness he finally got a definite diagnosis before he left the country. It would've been terrible if he'd been ill on that long flight overseas. I hope he has a speedy recovery.

Oh my, Krisann! I too had my gallbladder removed due to attacks, and there is nothing like that pain...I had just had my 2nd c/section and it did not have a patch on the gallbladder pain. The surgery however was a breeze...I hope it turns out the same for your dh. Did they know what it was at least on board? It's not such a big deal if you know what it is and know enough to give really good drugs... Hope he's feeling himself quickly and gets to use some of that two weeks to catch up on the break he missed.

Krisann, I am so sorry that your long awaited vacation with your hubby ended on a bad note. But I am glad to hear that it turned out OK and that he will soon be on the mend. My DH had a bad gallbladder attack a couple of months before one of our cruises and all I could think of was how awful it would have been if it had happened onboard. I feel for you!

Wishing you and everyone else a Happy and Healthy New Year!

Krisann:

 I am so sorry to hear about your DH. I am glad he has been properly diagnosed and can be pain free. Like JoAnne, I had my gallbladder removed. It has been almost eleven years now and no attacks since. The pain is unbearable, like a heart attack. I know it was probably scary for you all. I am VERY glad your DH had the surgery and had his gallbladder removed. He was very lucky to have it act up now and not when he was back in Iraq. Things happen for a reason and now you get a little more time with him and you just have to baby him a little. Please tell him, we wish him a speedy recovery. :flower3:

...The thing that would really get me to re-book was Castaway Cay, that was such a great day; everything you want from a beach with no effort. Jennifer, we loved having you join us too; dh was saying on the (long) drive home, "who was that nice couple from Texas again...?" :goodvibes

:goodvibes Thank you JoAnne! It was great meeting your family. It was nice seeing your smiling friendly faces on CC that we could eat lunch with. We found we were more outgoing this cruise than our last because around every corner we saw other DISers. It was nice having friends onboard. Like you, we love Castaway Cay and that is why we have two future cruises booked with DCL. There is no other place like it on earth. We can't afford our own island. So, CC is the second best thing. :thumbsup2

We are out of luck on getting a discount on the cruise we re-booked onboard. Why don't they give any discounts on the suites? I'll have to check with Bill on onboard credit. I'm not even sure what/if any onboard credits we got. I heard "Walt Suite" and everything else was a mumble, like Charlie Brown's teacher. :lmao: We've heard great things about DU from Angie (MrsMork). We were in the mall on Wednesday evening and that was fun NOT. I couldn't believe how packed the BaB and Apple store were at 8:30 at night.

DH found a GH3 for our Wii and has not left the upstairs TV most of the past few days. I remind him that the Wii is supposed to be for our daughter. :confused3

On the other hand, I was in Sam's today and got to play the Drums with ROCKBAND. That was very fun.

On other news, we have sent a letter to DCL praising those who deserved it but also to let them know of our disappointment in our first experience. The only way it will get better is if someone lets them know where they are falling down.

Jim said the same thing. He usually doesn't socialize much, but he actually enjoyed all the people he met on the cruise. I'm still trying to convince him to log on and post here. I convinced him that he knows almost everyone on this thread, and that the ones he didn't meet are just as nice. He said that once he's over the flu, he's going to try it. He has some questions that he wants to ask about DVC, so I told him that lots of people here can answer whatever he wants to know before we make our decision.

We usually use TurboTax also. Our tax return is pretty simple, but it's nice to know that it's done properly so that we can get our refund with no problems!

AAAHHHHH, I am so frustrated right now, I left the boys Disney World blankets at the hotel we stayed at on Christmas and before we left town I went to the hotel to pick them up and they said that housekeeping was gone for the day and to call tomorrow, well I called Wednesday and told the person that answered the phone my story and they said they would call me back well I called again yesterday left my number and description of what I left and still no luck. So I called again today and was told that the head housekeeper was gone and to call back on the 7th. So my question is if my 2 blankets are locked up so tight that no one can get in to get them how in the world did they get in there in the 1st place. I keep asking for the manager but he/she is out too. Sorry, just had to vent.....:headache: :headache: :headache: :headache:

You'll still get the $200 OBC, just not the 10% discount. Then if you transfer to DU before the end of the year they'll give you another $200.

DCL would only give us the $200 OBC on the first week of our B2B, since we'd only booked one cruise onboard. I thought that since there were 2 of us paid and deposited that we'd be able to get the credit both weeks....nope. But we are getting the $200 from DU for the second week, plus the Disney Visa credit.

They will keep an eye on the price and if it should drop they will automatically get the new price for you. You will not have to watch that yourself.

OK what are the reasons I should change other than the room credit? What can or will they do for us? :confused3

I switched mine for the room credit. We booked 2 connecting cabins for August 09. We get 200.00 OBC from DCL and now 100.00 OBC from DU. That is 300.00/cabin for a total of 600 to spend onboard. It should cover tips, shutters, and a few drinks of the day..maybe throw in a few arcade cards for the kids  .

They will also let you know if the price drops, and for me I have them checking for deck five for the SPH rooms. Since it is so far out, they may become available.

And on the WB PC cruise when Disney said they were increasing the fares by $100 per person because of a change in how Panama charges, DU stepped right up and said they were increasing all OB credits by $100 per person. Then when DCL decided not to charge the increase, DU said their customers were keeping the additional OBC anyway. I like them! :)

Now that the whole family is over the flu and all of the other things, we have to catch up on the day-to-day details. We finally had our Christmas dinner last night, so we're moving right along!

We got our Castaway Club Cards yesterday.

We never received Castaway Club Cards :guilty: and we have been on DCL 7 times so far.. We do have a Number that I was given over the phone a long time ago.. But you have an actual Card with it?

We got our Castaway Club cards sometime late last spring. Our first cruise was in May 2001! We never even received our number, although our TA at DU was able to get it to book us as returning cruisers for cruises 3 - 7.

BTW, I always come back with a cold, too, although this time, since I had a cold when I left, I guess it was the same one when I came back. It's finally gone, however! I can actually talk again. Jim says he enjoyed the month of peace and quiet.;)

When I did story time last month the tuesday after we got back I could not talk either my allergies were so bad when we got back..... I can say the best thing about the cruise for me was being SNEEZE free for a whole week. I have had bad allergies since I was in grade school and when I was pregnant with boys I was in heaven without sneezing almost makes me want to have another one to be allergy free but I think it be cheaper if I just moved to coast.:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

This past Spring DCL was revamping their Castaway Club system and sent everyone in their system a new CC card. People that had sailed with DCL 13 times and never got a card in the past received a card this past Spring. There was whole thread on this somewhere. We received ours this past May after first cruising in November 2006. So, you may want to contact them. You should have received a card.

Yes we got an actual card with it. For all three of us as a matter of fact. Some literature to tell our friends about DCL, a CD or DVD I am not sure and a letter with three cards attached. Kudos to DCL for sending them so quickly.

RCCL has a program for youths now, and we linked our DD to it in May and never received anything. It took both Celebrity and RCCL about three months to get us our cards after our first cruise so two weeks with a couple of holidays in there is not bad.

In other news, our gas and water bill was MUCH LESS last month than normal...of course it cost us a $5000 cruise vacation for lower bills. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Happy New Year everyone!

Hope everyone who is sick recovers soon. I seem to always get sick onboard or when we get home. I spent Christmas with laryngitis. I always have antibiotics on hand when we travel because I almost always end up needing them.

Did anyone receive the limited edition (500) collector's pin in a Shoreside Survival Kit from DCL? I am not a pin collector but I love them! They are really nice. For this cruise I got Donald Duck sitting in the porthole eating an ice cream cone and watching a pelican. From our previous cruise I got Mickey and Minnie sitting in the porthole. There is one more pin in the series. Sure hope I get it when we do our next cruise. With only 500 of them I guess I was lucky to get two of them! I was really surprised to receive the last one so quickly. We got it about two weeks after returning.:thumbsup2

Just wanted to be clear...this wasn't with the CC packet. This is what is called a Shore Survivor Kit. Doesn't seem like everyone gets them after every cruise. Although I have gotten quite a few DD cruised twice and didn't get anything. In the past I have gotten a CD, magnet, hologram (or something on that order) and a set of three Ducky Williams prints. Seems like this is a rather hit or miss thing, kind of like the CC cards. I did around eleven cruises before I finally got my actual CC card when they revamped the CC.:confused3

Dude...... you got 3 Ducky prints??? What's your address, just for curiousity sake?? :rolleyes1 I think Disney may need to work on their consistency. For them to send out random things, doesn't seem very "magical". OMG... I'm starting to sound like a clown!!!!! :scared1:

Uh oh, hope I'm not starting a mutiny here. The Ducky prints were a real surprise. Actually, everything was because I know how inconsistent DCL is. You may still get something. I have gotten some of these things a couple of months or longer after cruising. That is why I was so surprised to get something after only two weeks.

Happy belated Holidays to everyone. Sorry took me so long to get back on here.

It was great meeting as many Diser's that I was able to meet. I had a great time at dinner each night, great tablemates. Great sitting and chatting with other diser's while on deck 9. oh shoot it was just great all around <G>

For Florida its freezing i know its nothing like what northerners go thru, but hey this is Florida and we shouldn't be having 30 degree weather.

The news channel this morning showed Disney cruise ship coming in and the reporter made the statement that the cruisers are going to be surprised when they step off the ship and find the wind chill is around 18-20.

Hope to see some of you guys again on another cruise. Depending on my health and finances of course makes the difference when i can go or not.

Krisann glad to hear hubby found out the problem and can heal now.

thanks to you all that assisted me when needed, shared a smile and laugh everytime I saw you, and for just being you.

thanks, feel free to email or PM me anytime.

I am back to reality of not having income, fighting with unemployment compensation (UC) being denied, and filing a charge against my former employer. I have a telephone hearing on the UC on Jan 9 but really no need to go thru appeal process. I filed for short term disability and that was granted. So I can't get both for the same time period. I will pfax/email the UC person (i have already emailed someone else at UC) to see if have to go thru hearing. Disability was approved for one month. They want more documentation to grant it further. Geesh look my at diagnosis <G> this is short term thru former employer so I have faxed them more and asked doctor to fax them more of what they are asking for.

it is cold down here, i know i know at least we don't have snow, or freezing snow/rain. but hey I am a floridian and anything lower then 70 is cold. LOL

last night it was 31 with wind chill in the teens. tonight cold again grrrrrrrrrrrrr I went to walmart and bought an electric blanket as I was freezing. Apt I live doesn't have central air/heat so i only have two small space heaters. But that's all I have needed like last year. get this snow flurries actually fell on Daytona Beach and down the coastline last night. LOL

Hi, Marsha! Glad to hear you got back home safely! It was a pleasure meeting you, and, of course, everybody else!

I wish we could commit this far ahead to the Tortola cruise, but our schedules can't be predicted this far in advance. We're lucky that we get about six months to plan. It doesn't help that Jim is looking to change jobs, so we're not sure what will be happening by the fall of 2009. I would appreciate all your good thoughts and prayers for the job change. He's been interviewed once, and he's going through the background check now. It's not a big job, but it's a municipal job here, and he'll be able to work long enough to get a fairly decent pension by the time he reaches the mandatory retirement age (which is 72 right now!). His pension from his first career will barely be enough to cover the postage for the check each month:mad:, even after 28 years of working. The funny thing is that my son had this same job back in 1994. Jim would be replacing the person who replaced him!

OK, back to work--I'm alone in the office today, so it's a good time to do all that silly paperwork that piles up.

Thank you. It is a little better today as the pressure has gone down a bit but I can still feel it. I have felt puny since about Saturday and have lived in a hot bath several times a day.

If we got snow, it happened in the middle of the night and did not stick. The lowest we got was 16. I do love that the sky at night is so crisp and clear.

Hi Guys, I haven't been on this site for quite awhile. Paul has been sick and in the hospital since we came home from our great cruise. If you don't remember us, I wouldn't be surprised. We were unable to do all of the great things that we had planned to do on the cruise. Paul had some complications from his CABGx5 just before our trip. We more or less stayed in our cabin most of the time. He did get out to dinner every nite and did the shows every nite with Mikaila and me. Mikaila's mommy apparently is very sensitive to sea sickness and now land sickness so she didn't make most of the shows. Mikaila had a blast and loved the Stocking event especially. Thanks to all of you who participated. Thanks to all of you who make this a great site. Hope to explain more later. Paul and Cheryl Lattin

Hello, fellow cruisers. I haven't been able to post since the cruise due to all the craziness of the holidays and all since we debarked.

I want to say thank you to everyone who put something in our stockings. More than once it was the thought of what was in there that got my son out of his bad mood after I had to drag him out of the Lab when he wasn't ready to go! And I only caught someone once! Everyone was very sneaky! And I don't think anyone ever saw my son and I (he in a santa hat:santa:) sneaking around with a bag of goodies. We did get smiles from neighbors, though.

And, just like I predicted over a year ago, I got all shy and didn't make it to any of the meets. I did see a few green shirts and green lanyards (thank you, Wendy!) around but never introduced myself. I recognized Brack outside of the adult pool area and sat behind he and his lovely wife at the second Ducky Williams talk (congratulations on winning that drawing :thumbsup2 ).

The cruise was great, over all. The first few days were rough, of course. Not only the weather, though...

Wednesday, I was diagnosed with a sinus infection and received a prescription for antibiotics. Friday morning I woke up and the lymph node in my right cheek was swollen. So I got in to see the doc (again!) and she told me she had no idea what was causing it. But she also said the antibiotic I was on was very strong, so it should take care of anything. Well, it only got worse. It swelled up so much it hurt to chew, and my jaw wouldn't close on the right side - my teeth wouldn't touch. So, if you noticed someone on the first few night with an absurdly swollen right cheek who was slurping soup and crying while chewing bread, that was me! Then the rocking started. So I was laying on my bed with a hot water bottle on my cheek and a trashcan nearby. Not fun!

But then my jaw stopped hurting and my cheek went down and we docked and it all got better. We snorkeled and shopped and walked and played bingo and drank champagne and saw movies (loved Enchanted!) and shows (loved The Golden Mickeys and Jeff Civillico) and saw butterflies and traded pins with officers and saw Don "Ducky" Williams (twice) and learned to fold towels and took tons of pictures and got sunburned and so much more... It was wonderful. :thumbsup2

I was one of the ones watching us leave that couple on shore, only to scoot back in and allow them to board. What a hassle.

Last week I received the Shoreside Survival Kit and my CD was cracked! I'll email DCL and ask for a replacement.

The strangest thing happened to me yesterday...

When I came home from an outing, there was a message from the Disney Cruise Line Lost and Found saying they had found a blue suitcase with my name on it. I had to name something in it, and I mentioned the portable DVD player I lost. I assumed I had left it in the hotel room the night before the cruise. Well, that was in the blue suitcase, so they're sending it UPS on Monday.

On the cruise, I ran out of clothes for my son near the end and had to do unplanned laundry, and I kept telling my family, I can't believe I didn't pack enough, I am very organized and that's not like me.

Well, it turns out it's not like me! The suitcase never even made it on the cruise and I never even noticed. I guess there were only clothes, nothing I absolutely needed. And the DVD player was never on the cruise, which is why I thought it was left at the hotel. :confused3

So I can't wait to see what is in there. It will be like Christmas morning again! And now I can return the new DVD player I bought since then.

Well, I wish I could say I'll be seeing you guys on the next cruise thread, but with finances as they are, it will be a long while before I cruise with DCL again. But I'll keep poking my head in here to say howdy.:wave2:

:thanks: Thanks again to everyone for your friendliness and invitations and ideas and suggestions in the months before our cruise. l:disrocks:

I'm glad you had a good time. I hope that next time you do cruise that you are not shy. I've been playing the two times that you mentioned in my mind to see if I remember you.

I'm glad also that your lost items showed up. My lost item has still not surfaced.

Blessings to you and your family. Maybe the next cruise will be sooner than you think. :thumbsup2

Brookdale is great! A friend of mine is the comptroller there (at least for now). If your son takes any classes at their Long Branch center, let me know--it's directly across the street from their building. They offer some of their courses here in Long Branch because it's very easy to get here by train and bus.

Have a great time in Florida! I'll be doing fun things like ripping the carpet out of my living room;).

I went to Georgian Court & Ocean County College :teacher: There is also some classes DS can take in Howell.. It's a bit closer the Brookdale.. :thumbsup2

Funniset was when the woman told him NOT to take classes that start at 7am cause his Travel time is almost an hour Plus traffic at that time off the Parkway is Crazy... :headache: DS seemed NOT to have a problem with THAT... He wanted afternoon classes anyway.. ;)

We had a bit of snow yesterday--it appears that mine is the only house in the entire city that actually had a bit of snow on the ground:confused3. I think it's because it's in a very protected location.

I was just looking at some of my cruise pictures. I'd really rather be back in St. Maarten or St. Thomas right about now! It's just too cold and windy for me today!

It WAS wonderful. Brack. Angie said you lost a CF card. ARGH! I hope you find it. That wouold make me sick. I have lost pictures before, and it is terrible. I lost the pics of our family trip with our kids and grandkids. That still has me wrankled. I will try to put a CD togther for you, although I know it won't be the same. I'll try to get the pics you got, especially when we were together taking some of the pictures. Did you have it when you got home? My last one was in the camera when I got home. I downloaded it onto my portable drive ASAP, and I have about 1287 pics on that drive, from this last cruise and DW trip. It is almost unmanageable to have THAT many pics. I will try to find some time to post some too. (Sigh!)

It was great cruising with you again. Until next time....

They're predicting the upper teens to low twenties here. We're very close to the beach (about two blocks) so it's usually a bit warmer, but even that's too cold for me.

I suggest that we all pack up and go back to the islands!

It's probably time for me to sign off this thread also. Not only am I working on our WDW trip before the Member cruise, but I also just booked a Baltic cruise on the Crown Princess for June. So I'm trying to figure out how to pack as much as possible into our tour of St Petersburg.

I also need to work on Tokyo. Thanks to a fellow DISser, I've got some great info that will make things much easier for us. :thumbsup2

My guys loved it, he is just pretending that he was freaked out,
my sister does this silly face thing with them all the time where she tells them happy...and they act ridiculously happy, sad....they can cry on cue, angry.....my oldest can even make his veins come out of his head. She has done this with them since they were babies and they just love it, she keeps saying that she is going to take them to California but I say no way......

anyways I screamed when something ran underneath my feet and my boys were like MOM its just pretend.....

I saw the pink Sally and of course thought that was cute, but I am avoiding the minis and just sticking to the regular sized Diecast.

I do know there are new ones already out there including:

Dinoco Mia and Tia
Not Chuck
TOW
Pit Crew Guido
Tom Race Official

Congrats on the rating!!!

We got more snow yesterday and now it is FREEZING . We dropped down to 15 last night and it is about 23 now. The wind chill across the leftover snow is biting. We are not Green Bay cold, but cold enough for us. Good thing this happened on a weekend and the roads are not as crowded today as they would be on Monday. The sun is out so hopefully with the wind, most of the wet roads will dry up today.

We are starting on getting back to being pre-baby fit and meeting with a personal trainer today.

I'm still here now and then, too. I've been really busy with my annual report at work, but I do check in from time to time!

No cruises planned for my immediate future, but if you check my sig you'll see that I'm planning a WDW trip for my birthday in May. I'm also thinking about one for October. My husband has no vacation time left since we used so much in December, so I'll be traveling without him for a while.

Due to the new board rules this thread is being closed because it has exceeded the maximum length. Please feel free to start a new one with a link back to this thread.

Quote:
Update from Webmaster Alex
Sorry for the delay on this, we had to have a piece of software custom written to cut up the existing long threads.
We have also decided how to handle long threads moving forward:
1. Threads will be closed at 250 pages (3750 posts)
2. Any existing thread over 250 pages will be locked as is.
3. The really long threads that were removed will come back over the next week or so. I have to shut the boards down to cut them up so I will try to do it during "off hours". We are also trying index them so people will be able to reference them.

I hope everyone is enjoying the much faster boards!
