I'm sure I'll be in line somewhere well before 5 am to make sure to cash in on the big early bird specials. The question is will it be Best Buy for a computer, Staples or Walmart? So many decisions....

I guess I need to read all the posts before I respond. But at times the posts happen so fast I can't get to the end before I feel the need to post.
I guess maybe it would help my reading if I got hyped up on diet coke, but I don't like the stuff give me a wild cherry pepsi. Actually the diet coke would be a bad idea because it would prolly give me a head ache.

You would not believe the lines of people here on Black Friday! DH is a cameraman for a local news station, and by the time he gets all him gear set up at 5:00 a.m. on Black Friday at the local Walmart, there has already been a line since about 3:00. I just don't get it! I HATE shopping in crowds. I really enjoy shopping from my computer.

People get up at 5am or whenever the shops open and just mob the stores. That is why I will just not go out that day.
I LIVE for Black Friday! I feel sorry for those that DO have to work, but I have been there in the past too. :( I get SO much of my shopping done.
Talk about your COMMANDO TOURING! My plan for that day is like MacArthur!!! LOL I go - so does Mom. (DH stays home). My aunt goes, my 18yo nephew (been doign it for 5 years!). My cousin.
Basically, I plan it all. We all make our lists -- they give them to me. I break up the lists by store. Then I assign the stores everyone goes to. I can't even begin to tell you how much fun the THRILL of it all is to me!
Dh is SO excited to be goign this year. Mom wants to stay home -- and she'll be with our son. Black Friday is NO place for children! LOL

Last year I was one of the crazies who get up bright and early and I might do the same thing this year. However this year I must be at work at 7:30am so that I can work on black Friday. Last year I ended up getting about $250 worth of stuff free after rebates at Staples and Office Max. I only ended up spending the stamp costs. Got loads of good stuff for nothing.
Hundreds of free burnable cd's, a laminator, two storage thumb drives for computers and loads more for nothing but a stamp. I also bought two $120 a piece office chairs and ended getting them for $20 a piece after rebate.

I planned out ahead of time as well. Speaking of not a place for children. Last year in line for Black Firday at Staples at about 4:45am there was someone who had three kids still in their pjs and wrapped in blankets standing in line waiting for the stores to open. The oldest might have been 7. They kept complaining they wanted to home to go to bed. I didn't blame them one bit. They were being forced to be there, I was there on my own will.

I didn't think that going back to school after graduating from college 12 years ago would be this hard. But, either having kids has dumbed me right down, or things have gotten harder. I'm only taking two classes this semester, but it's really killing me. In order to get this paper done, I'm ignoring the assignments from my other class. Luckily, that teacher is understanding about my circumstances and is cutting me some slack, but I've got to lead a discussion in her undergrad class this week, so I've got to read the book and formulate my discussion for that as well. Oh well, somehow it will all get done.

I'm only taking one course but after teaching all day and sitting in class for 4 more hours, my brain feels like mush. Sometimes I wonder how I drive home. I am just starting my masters. I've taken 18 hours of other classwork but it was too long ago and I can't count them. Oh well, will see it through this time.

Regarding Black Friday. It was either last year or the year before that I went to Toys-R-Us on that dreaded day. I stood in line for an hour and a half to check out. Never, never, never, never, never again!!! I should be used to lines from Disney World, but I wasn't hauling around a load of toys with me!! With no cart.http://www.dismates.com/board/images/smiles/104.gif
Now, on the other hand, our Office Depot had some very nice deals and was barely crowded at all, so I might venture into that one again.

Oh ... I forgot to mention .... the stores are so close together wher dwe shop, we are able to to use ecxtended range walkie-talkies to keep in contact. LOL But for the last couple years, we'vegrown up to cell phones! (sucks when they don't work in the big box stores!!!!)
Oh -- Mom is over my shoulder and reminded me that I actually got a credit card on my account for my nephew 2 years ago. BECAUSE 3 years ago .. he was waiting in line and having tolet person after preson cut in front of him til we rescued him with a credit card. Tyhe line for Best Buy where I go starts forming at 11pm on Thanksgiving night. Now, mind you , this isn' tin the South where it's warm! This is in Massachusetts!!!!
DH plans on going with my nephew. They will bring thier sleeping bags to keep warm! DH is getting me a laptop (most likely from Best Buy) They always have SOMETHING we want to get at BB. It's mainly a matter of getting INTO that store and then getting OUT! Ccheckout lines snake around the perimeter of the interior of the store!!!!!!!

I use the Gotta Deal site also. We usually have a game plan for BB check-out. One person gets an item and stands in line while the others search for what they need. Then we just pile it in the cart. This year the problem will be with the computers. It takes so long for them to get them set up. I am 1 1/2 hours away from the nearest big stores. The closest we have is super wal-mart. So my morning starts very early but I am usually home by 11 and ready for a nap.

Great idea. Problm is .. .we normally only have one per store. I know both DH and nephew intend on laptops though. Once they get THAT squared away ... they can do the check-out game. I KNOW nephew will be looking through CDs

Gotcha. We travel to my Mom's for the holiday. Like a lot of towns, nearby there is a strip with a mall and almost all the big box stores. Very little traveling on BF .. but the traffic moves SO SLOW!

Sorry I haven't been able to keep up with all the posts here - busy getting ready for the trip, the holidays, and the shirts, as well as day-to-day stuff! DH keeps asking why I am still on the boards, don't I have all the designs I need already?! I don't know how so many of you guys manage to keep up with reading, posting, designing, planning, working, and taking care of your families!! I'm a SAHM with only 1 little boy, and still feeling overwhelmed!
Neat that we have a "home" with more room to spread out so the designs can hopefully be a little easier to find and share.
Triplefigs - sorry to hear about the ear tube surgeries your little ones need before the trip. Hope all goes well. Sending prayers for peace - I know I'd be a nervous wreck!
You designed the awesome "4 Parks" design, right? I added the park names to it and hope DH, DS, and I can all wear them (white shirts) on the Sat. at Disney Studios - maybe we'll run into each other. :)
I printed out most of the white T-shirt designs last night. Didn't get to iron them on today, but hope to do so tomorrow.
Question: How do you go about putting a design on the front AND on the back? Doesn't ironing the second one goof up the first one, or is there some trick to it? :confused3

Cheriepenguin,
If you are using a cutting board or something portable to iron on you can put it inside the shirt. Otherwise I am not completly sure, maybe you can stick heavy weight cardboard or something else inside to prevent the heat from messing up the transfer on the other side.

I do not care for their fresh meats. In regards to thier produce -- if you pick it, you're pretty much OK. I no longer buy the bagged produce (other than potatoes, onion carrots -- root vegetables).
Just like the other stuff - you have to have the ad with you.
I make up my list and head to Wally World first. Depending on how many of the loss leaders I can find there ... I can cross some of the stores off my list. With the price of gas (and my time) I don't want to be running all around the world!)
By the way -- their fresh items are GUARANTEED!!!! (meat. dairy, produce etc) I once bought a 3 lb block of sliced cheese - only to gind a hole on one side and it was dried up over there. No problems with the return.

I could never keep up...besides, most of our Christmas shopping is done. I'm ready to wrap! :teeth:
LOL That's because Alyssa is too young to change her mind about what she wants for Christmas another 45 times before Christmas Eve!
You seriously might be one of the biggest goody two shoes I have ever met!!!
What did you get me? :listen:
Please cite your reasoning behind your name-calling Queen. :listen:
And, besides Goofy and Fish out of Water, we do have a "family gift" for you, but I was planning on bringing it Saturday, rather than waiting until Christmas. You might already have it (I know you stack codes on DisneyDirect or DisneyShopping or whatever it's called now), but you can never have too many of these. :p

Doubt it. They usually hand out ickets for the BIG items. (like PCs / laptops) One per person. Youre only chance is to see if someone near you in line doesn't want that item and have them grab you a ticket -- but that's a chance .....
I am comparing the laptops myself. I'm not totally sold on the Best Buy one. I'm looking at WM's HP and CompUSA's Acer ......

Brendita--congratulations on your post & on your tag!
I'm glad to see that there are other people like me who head out on Black Friday! That's the only day of the year when I actually look forward to getting up that early! We have already bought some stuff, but you just have to save some stuff for the BIG shopping day! :rotfl2: I usually case out Target, and DH hits WM on his way to work! Our Disney Store said they were going to have some major sales, but only from 5 a.m.-10 a.m.--last year, they handed out tickets to show that you were in the store before 10 a.m. to prove you should get the sales. DH wants to go to Best Buy for a computer, too, but I think I'll let him handle that one--last year, you could not even get near the store!
Much, much caffeine will be needed that day! :teeth:

Question: How do you go about putting a design on the front AND on the back? Doesn't ironing the second one goof up the first one, or is there some trick to it? :confused3
Yes there is a trick.
Very simple.
Here is how I did it.
Do 1 side front or back no different.
Then put the cutting board on the ironing board.
Slip the shirt over the cutting board.
Let the 1 done side hang down.

Itslisa what town are you shoppin in. We usually start out in West Lebanon then head to either Salem, NH or Nashua, NH with a stop in Manchester for good measure. I typically get an 18 hour shopping day in and get most of my shopping done. DH takes the day off and keeps the kids. I actually have fun planning where to go, when and what to buy.

Mommy lives in RI. We'll be traveling the for the holiday. I'll be doing the majority of my shopping on Route 1 in Attleboro MA. I think I would pay more in gas moving from store to store in NH than I do pay in sales tax in MA. Still ... I HATE paying the sales tax! LOL

Another dumb question from me -- several times people have mentioned Black Friday ads on here. How are you seeing them before they are printed? Have they been released on their websites?
Saturday's are so stressful here in this house. My husband says his blood runs orange, and he paces in front of the TV or turns it when the games get close. Thankfully, his team hasn't had any problems yet this year. But they always manage to falter on a team that doesn't seem that hard to beat. We'll see what happens with the rest of the season.

There are websites (http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/) out there that get leaks of Black Friday store ads. People send them into the sites and then the information is posted for the public. Some of it might not be entirely accurate, but it gives some what of an idea of what is out there.

10 pages overnight AGAIN :earseek:
People get up really early, and go shopping for the day
in the UK that's traditionally Jan1 - start of the January sales :Pinkbounc , but increasingly they start on 26 or 27 December - don't these people realise sales staff need a rest?
DH will be working right up to closing time on 24/12, and probably clear through for 10 or more days up to then. Just hoping his company closes the shop for an extra day after the Bank Holidays so we can go to a pantomime! (Oh yes we will! Oh no we won't!)
Watching Prizzi's Honour last night DH was reminded how he liked the Californian climate and even said we could go there and have a couple of days at DL :faint: and a couple at Las Vegas :Pinkbounc  . I pointed out we were all but settled for Vancouver, but tht I'd be happy to only do one week there and fly down to Ca for the second week, but DS(12) said he wanted 2 weeks in Vancouver now, and we could do 2 weeks in Ca in 2007.
Maybe I won't have to wait 10 years for my Disney fix :cheer2:
Anyway I've done my pawnbrokers balls for DH's sweatshirt
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y243/MazdaUK/grumpy2.jpg
The idea is to have Grumpy on the front and the balls on the back. I wondered about wording under them, like "What sort of Mickey Mouse pawnbrokers is this anyway?" - what do you think?

Good Morning DDAs!
WOW! :earseek: :earseek: :earseek:
You all have been the chattiest I've ever seen you over the last few days. I've been reading along, but I just couldn't reply yet. We've been pulling 18 hour days the last couple trying to tie up loose ends moving out, finalizing travel plans, etc. Not to mention that sometime last week I woke up with random back spasms and was practically bedridden for a few days. I can breathe again, though.... thank goodness for drugs (right, Denise?)
So anyway... I kept sort of a running list of things I was going to reply to... but since there were about 30 pages a day for a few days in a row (not to mention our own BOARD with other threads!) I don't think it's quite feasible to do that anymore.... I'd take up an ENTIRE page for one post, or have about the next 1000 talking to myself trying to keep track! :goodvibes
Hope everyone is feeling better (Marti, Denise, everyone with sinus infections, etc). Denise -- hope your three are feeling better VERY soon!
All the new designs are VERY cute... both Disney related and not! ;)
Mac - When you get back, we can't wait to see pictures and hear about your trip! Hope your wife got to feeling better VERY quickly.
Regarding black friday -- EVERY year I get up at 4 or so and shop alllll day, only to come home and say "why do I do this every year?!" Like Amy, I have all my Christmas shopping done except for 3 gifts (that I can think of).... and this is sort of late in the year for me, but we've been so busy! So Kate, I guess I'm a goody two-shoes, too :rotfl: And yet.... I'm sure I"ll be out on the 25th "just to make sure" I don't miss anything spectacular. I totally only ever end up buying stuff that's NOT for Christmas, because of the great deals. :rolleyes1 Thanks everyone for the links though, what cool websites! :teeth:
Anything else? Oh! Welcome to the new DDAs! So glad you came out of lurkdom and/or stumbled across our boards during the various moves.
Baloo -- SO happy to have you back! We love you!
I'm QUITE sure there are a million other things I was going to say, but you all will be spared the rest of the novel - for now ;)
I don't know how often I'll be on for the next little while, but if you don't post TOO terribly much, I might be able to keep up. It just got so stressful trying to keep up with all that's going on in my life here AND the banter on this thread .....
Missed you all, though! I've enjoyed reading everything that's been going on, and thought I'd check in just in case any more of you were worried.... lol.
Congrats Kate on 10,000 (and 11111 :)) and Tammi on 11,000. Oh! And all the new tags! Don't forget -- I claimed #20,000 a while back.... so if it creeps up while I'm gone, someone PM the heck out of my mailbox and email because it's MINE! :rotfl:

Oh! Two more things (until I think of more) :rolleyes1
That thing that was "dropped on me" a few weeks ago.... decision is made. I have coached some young girls at my old high school for a few years now... they are some of the biggest joys in my LIFE, and this coming season I won't be able to do it. With the traveling, moving x2, illness, etc I realized that I just HAVE to take time for myself and DH. It broke my heart, and we all had a good cryfest, etc.... but it's done, and I KNOW it is the decision that had to be made. Just keep them (and me!) in your thoughts and prayers. There is especially one young lady, Emilee, who I was sort of mentoring.... and she is the most upset. I hate change more than anyone I know, and yet even I remember how much worse it all seemed when I was 16. :guilty: Pray that I'll be able to keep in touch with them and maybe still be of some help in their lives.... and that the next lady who comes along is good to them.
ALSO, on a brighter note....... 31 days for me!
Ooh! And Christmas decorations are going up this week, darn it, DESPITE what my mother and DH say. Who cares if we're in the middle of all this other stuff? Not this girl! Everything will be better once they're up and that Christmas music is going ALL around me, and not just in my car .... ;)
Have a good day, all! :goodvibes
ETA: Why isn't my banana dancing? All the other GIF stuff is going to town..... :guilty: I LOVE that darn banana (although I can't stand the real thing) .....
Morning Jennifer! I know we PMed each other yesterday, but it's so good to see you on the thread!
Should we start our own little goody-two-shoes thread?!! :teeth:
I'm sure it was very hard to make the decision to stop coaching. Pre-Alyssa, I taught high school, but I was also the yearbook and Key Club advisor for many years. Those kids took it very hard that I was "leaving them." I knew they would rebound and eventually accept their new advisors (especially if I stayed out of it), but it was still very emotional. Sending you happy thoughts! :goodvibes

Yet another reason the DDA's and these boards are magical. I am in the exact same situation (not with the moving and stuff, thank goodness, but with the giving up coaching). I have coached for several years, and just this past weekend, decided I was going to have to give it up. It's a long, boring story, but it has been hard to make that decision! I'm sending prayers and :wizard: your way that this will be a good process for you!

I went to Church and low and behold came back to a couple of longhorn fans! Actually, my longhorn love came from my DH. He's from Austin and his blood runs orange. I'm an SMU grad who actually was far from a longhorn fan until I met my husband. We went to see the Horns play in the Rose Bowl last year with two other couples he went to school with. It was a fantastic trip.
Maybe we'll need to design a shirt for the game if they go. Of course, I only post so far and haven't designed, but I might try designing if I can ever get over my paranoia of design software.....

I just finished printing out all my designs (8 designs times 3 people), plus 9 sheets of Kate's adorable name design (2 on a page), so I still have to do a couple more of those, but ran out of paper - but more is on the way!!! I still have a batch of shirts that came in the mail a couple of weeks ago (before my granddaughter vacuumed up the mailbox key) that need to be washed. I'll do that in a little while. My daughter and her friend that's going with us are coming to spend the weekend next weekend so we can do all of the ironing and the decorating of the covers of the autograph books. Mousekeeper envelopes are done. I ordered white sweatshirts today. I plan to put the same design on them for MVMCP as on the T-shirts. That way we'll be covered if it gets cool that night. It looks like things are coming together (except I'm still not unpacked or caught up at work from my cruise - doing shirts and reading the boards is much more fun).

Well I made my first shirts today!! I ended up using the top of my dryer.
I did TripleFig's (?) cool 4 Parks design on white shirts for myself, DH, and DS (I just added in the names of the 4 parks).
On the back of DS's shirt, I put Kate's (?) "Walt Disney World" in block letters with characters.
And my white canvas bag got my original "Disney Mom" design on one side and the WDW block letters w/ characters on the back.
Everything turned out reasonably good!! :cool1:
The first shirt I made got a little yellowy at one edge because I ironed it a bit too much when I thought the edge wasn't sticking down. The WDW w/ characters is a little fuzzy, and the canvas bag isn't completely smooth, so it cocmes through a little into the designs, but still looks good. The first two shirts also seem to have fuzzy, lint-like stuff. I didn't notice it before ironing, so I'm not sure where it came from.
But overall I'm excited that they worked!
Next, on to the dark color shirts!
Triplefigs has a CRT invite on her links page. Can someone change the date & time for me?? Need December 8, 2005 at 8:10am. I can't get it figured out.
Thanks much!!!!

That's all there was to the map of MGM on the original design I pulled it from. don't know where the "real" original came from

That was the problem when I STARTED reading the thread ... I saved them all into ONE folder. Now, I have been sorting them by creator ... but I still have a bunch where I have no idea who did 'em.

DH helped. He loves Christmas too. This is REALLY early even for me. Usually we decorate on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. But since the kids are having surgery and we leave in 16 days, we figured we better do it while we could! We'll decorate outside next weekend (only 1 week early).

My DH is a dear and watched the kids all day, took them outside to play in leaf piles, got them lunch at McD's (cool Chicken Little toys!). I literally start and don't stop until it's done. Still have to put ornaments on the tree, but everything else is done. Took me 8 hours. Whew~!

I'll check the paint in the basement tomorrow for you. So do you have a LSU Daniel Moore print? That one is the one he did in 92 when we one the National Championship. Also the year I graduated from Bama. You better not lose those next 2 games. Auburn cannot go to the SEC Championship!
ETA: as far as the tins, last year I got smart when I took them down. I take pictures of the house each year so I can remember where to put all the stuff (I have about 20 boxes of Christmas decorations). I numbered each tin in the order they were with a sharpie on the bottom. This year I just put them in order, got up top and stuck them up there. It only took about 45 minutes (compared to a few hours last year!).

No, we have this one:
http://www.jackjaubert.com/images/FBCentennialWeb.jpg
It's by Jack Jaubert. This print belonged to DH's grandfather, who played football and was a team captain for LSU. This particular print is significant to DH's Grandpa specifically, but I'm ashamed to admit I can't remember exactly what it is. I think he was #80 (which is front and center) and maybe his team went to the orange bowl. It's also sort of a history of LSU.
We inherited it when Grandpa died. It's very special to us. I just thought it was funny that we both had college football prints above our fireplaces. I think most wives would be like no way, while I (and I'm guessing you too) was trying to find the most visible place for it! We'll decorate after Thanksgiving and I'm hoping to have the room painted before we decorate. I'll post a pic then.
Oh, and I forgot to tell you I love the toile. It's very Christmassy looking, but I'm sure you did that on purpose!
I hope we don't lose these last two games, but LSU has a history of choking when it really counts. Remember all those times we would have won the west if we could only beat Alabama (or Auburn). OR, we tied one of ya'll for the west but ya'll won the tiebreaker and went to Atlanta. If it can't be us, I want it to be ya'll. Just NOT Auburn!

I would not consider you a lurker - neither does the TF - I just saw your new tag
I know! My tag is sooo fitting!! Amy should be on here thanking the Tag Fairy because the misspelling in my other tag (that was replaced) was driving her "bezerk" :rotfl: Hmmm...unless Amy is the TF :scratchin
Now she thinks the misspelling in my other tag (no, not GEAUX) is glaringly obvious, so Tag Fairy if you're still flitting about this thread, will you please put Amy out of her misery and correct withdrawal? (Oh and I know you don't take requests, but if you haven't met your tagging quota for the week, my Geaux Tigers would look really cool in purple) :)
I love all of the new tags. It's nice that all of these people who love this thread now have a tag from it :goodvibes I really love your photoIMPACT one. How perfect for you!
As for lurker, I didn't think I posted nearly that much. Must have been all that football talk.
Oh, and a big ROLL TIDE!!!!!! Beat Auburn!!

Well we're not the only ones to have a thread closed reccently. The thread about free and cheap things to do in Walt Disney World was also shut done. In it the original poster asked for ideas of cheap and free things for a family to do on a trip for their daughter's dance club.
Lots of people decided to help out and make the family have a more magical trip bysending items to help the family and make their trip better. It got shut down since it was considered soliciting, even though the original poster or no one else ever asked for anything but ideas.
I guess we gotta all watch what we say and do.

ReAnSt
11-14-2005, 01:26 AM
I have used iron on stuff to attach other fabric to a blanket to hold it before I sewed it. It ironed ok and would have probably stayed attached but I still sewed it. I don't think the t-shirt transfers would work all that well unless it is really smooth non-pily fleece almost like a sweatshirt. But than again I could be wrong. Someone will have to try it.
Or you could always print it onto other fabric and then sew it fast to the fleece. Hmm. ideas, ideas.

Denise - If only I'd have known you last year.... my mother and I got rid of SO many tins. She used to bake 24/7 for the entire months of November and December, and give tins to everyone I think she has ever met. :rotfl2: She had stocked up on so many tins it was rediculous. Some were the typical plastic junky ones (for those people that she SERIOUSLY had hardly met and yet somehow felt like making a holiday tin for :confused3 :) ) but others were absolutely beautiful!
Now, since she homeschools my sister, works with the youth group, etc etc etc she and I have to pull a marathon just to make enough goodies for us to munch on.... still my favorite Christmasy day though, aside from decorating
But we seriously gave away so many! :( I would love t see your collection... some of the tins can be so neat!
