I am packing and realized I am out of personalized Mousekeeping envelopes, so instead of reprinting the ones I have, I am making some new ones. Something else to do with all of these wonderful designs. See you all in a week. :wave2:

I have NOT a craft bone in by body, i tryed the tied dyed shirt and it was a joke, you cant even tell what it is.......oh well my question is

I just use my work computer for the interent,oh (and a black and white printer) my home computer is old has has no memory left to use, so with these iron on tranfsers do you have to have some kind of program you buy to get the iron on from one of the sites to your computer and then printer??

Well, back a week ago and it's taken me this long to recover LOL!! I finally caught up with all the new posts and everyone's designs are great.

We wore our shirts and had a couple comments from people, not many. The CMs at Columbia Harbour House loved my husband's shirt with the Mission Mickey created by MidNite (thanks, MidNite!) I wasn't with him at the time, but they all wanted to know where he got the shirt. He told them about how his wife is on the DIS boards and got the idea from there.

Anyway, I wanted to post pics, but I can't use the DIS boards to host the photos right now for some reason (tech difficulty?)

Baloo--I can't find the place where I'm supposed to post pics of my t-shirts so the designers can see them on shirt--I thought you had started a separate sticky for that, but now I can't find it, or am I just supposed to put them here?

Thanks to julia & nicks mom and MidNite for the great designs!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :flower3:

By the way, we wore our shirts. . .10 en mass. . .to the Pooh Character lunch at Crystal Palace in MK on Wednesday, August 31. Everyone was making a huge fuss over the shirts, even the characters. Our waitress said to my DSis, "How did you know about the opening? It's suppose to be a secret!" When my sister looked confused, our waitress got embarassed and said, "Oops, I slipped!" She told us she would talk with her manager and get back to us. She came back a little while later with the restaurant manager in tow. They explained that because of our shirt design, our waitress had thought we had some pre-knowledge of the secret grand opening on September 1st (the next day) of the Winnie the Pooh themed play area for ages 5 and under. It is located in the MK across from the Pooh ride in Fantasyland. The waitress had gone to the manager to explain her slip and to request permission to tell us the whole story, so we wouldn't be left hanging. We were not planning on visiting MK again that week, but had to see this before we left so went on Friday, September 2nd. It is sooo cute. So you see fellow DDA's. . .our addiction does have its perks!

I also met a lady at the POP food court who's family had the most beautiful pastel colored Mickey head tye-dye tees on. She was very shy and told me she has never posted, but got the idea as a DIS lurker. I encouraged her to post her shirts, because they are gorgeous!!! Maybe she will see this and get the nerve. :goodvibes

:rotfl: I'm the same way. Have 10 million cute designs saved, and none made! Can't decide which ones. And, I've never done iron-ons, and I'm VERY nervous about actually applying what we've all done to a shirt. I'm much better just making them on the computer! ;)

Triplefigs,
The iron-on process is really easy & mine came out great. I love my So This Is Love shirt that you designed & my MNSSHP shirts that J&N's Mom designed. You guys did the hard work & you all deserve a big :grouphug: from me & all of the other DDA's out there that have used your beautiful designs.

I love the DDA & :disrocks: .
I was just telling my DH yesterday how much I love this site because people are actually nice to each other & like to help each other out. I am so glad I found this site. The first disney forum I went to had fighting all the time & couldn't be more different than the DIS. I don't even go to it anymore.

I can't believe I have some help I can send your way.
Easy tips to apply iron on transfers.

Most important read the instructions different brands are used differently.
Important wash all shirts first.
Iron out all the wringles where it will be.
Don't use a ironing board to apply transfers.
Use a hard surface.
I have a big pull out cutting board in my kitchen. (Worked great)
Use a ruler to find center.
I measured 4 inches down from the collar.
Place tissue paper over transfer.
Use iron hottest setting no steam.
Press firmly for about 2 minutes.
Let cool about 2 minutes.

Don't try to get it all done in 1 day.
I printed transfers. (1 day)
Cut out transfers. (1 day)
Ironed transfers. (1 day)

Believe me you designers have the hard part.
The only thing hard about this is.
Finding the quiet uninterrupted time. :rotfl2:

Now can I get some help with sewing Halloween costumes?

AAACCCKKKKK! Now I know I'll never get any shirts made! I'll be at WDW and see all the DDA designs, and I'll be in a generic t-shirt with no transfer! :rolleyes1 Seriously, thanks for the tips. I really need to try it and make the Bama shirts that Momof2OH made for me!

I did "Search this thread" and typed in Tink and a second one Tinkerbelle picture. Both searches said no matches... anybody have another idea?? I really want the Tink that looks like she has a wand and pixie dust. The pixie dust is more important than the wand. Can anybody help??

She was very shy and told me she has never posted, but got the idea as a DIS lurker. I encouraged her to post her shirts, because they are gorgeous!!! Maybe she will see this and get the nerve. :goodvibes

Wow! That is such a cool story! :cheer2:

I'd probably just leave it ('cause I'm a cheapskate) but could you just print on the backs of these? That way you're only out the extra ink? Or did you already double-side them?

I would just get some small stickers, perhaps address labels and only reprint the word October. Then stick over the misspelled word and voila fixed.
Deb

I'd leave it - hey if anyone notices it'll be a talking point :0) (actually I'm too much of a perfectionist so although I say that in theory... depends if you've got time to redo them?)

Thanks for the advice! :goodvibes (sorry so long in responding, the computer pretty much is hogged by DH when he's home [stupid online games keep me from getting my Disney fix!!! ] )

I think for now I'll leave the cards the way they are. If I have any ink left in my printer after I print all our tee shirts for our trip then I might redo them. If not it will be something for DD to tease me about when she notices.

If i may make a statement...

PLEASE..

DO NOT link images here from clipart places.
Most clipart places ask you to download the picture to your own webpage instead of linking directly to thier pics..

The reasons?
1. the pics maybe taken down and your left with a little red x
2. bandwith.. Sometimes they excede what they have (if places like geocities..it just goes blank for an hour) other place have to pay MONEY for bandwidth.

When you put up a linked image here everytime someone views the page it takes from the pics bandwidth, And with well over 200k views on this thread alone.. thats why you see some red x's instead of the pics.

We don't want to be a burden to the clipart people..

BUT! I have some good news! (i saved alot be switching to gieco..hehe)

Its simple to sign up for a photobucket account(and free) http://photobucket.com/
Then just right click the images and save them to you My Documents folder (or make a new one called Disney like i did) and then log into photobucket and upload the pics.. then link them from there!

Or even a text link http://picaddresshere.com That way it only uses the bandwidth when people click the link and view it.. and not just from refreshing that page of the thread.

I suggest the saving the pic and uploading.. Its not hard.. and is fast to do too.!

Sorry for the long post.. but i think it needed to be pointed out, as i'm sure alot of the people here didn't know it.

OK - I'll give up my secret... we just bought a new SUV (4 wheel drive needed up here in the north) and I want to buy a custom made window cling for my husband. Since the truck is black I wanted to do it with a night time picture of the castle, then I had this bright idea that I would design a special one, instead of just a picture of the castle. Can you guys say DDA??? :smooth:

That's a great idea!

Which gives me one - you know those fold up sun visors you put in the windscreen to save your car turning into an oven... wonder how hard it would be to make one of those?? You'd have to design to a pretty big scale and then get it printed... I picked up a visor for 2 pounds... but it's just shiny gold... I wonder...

Mrs. Squirrel-sorry we missed seeing you-I'm sure you guys must have been a site. We saw the Pooh tree behind the walls. Can't wait to see it in October. I did briefly see another Diser at MK with a Happy 5th Birthday shirt on. We didn't get a whole of attention with our shirts. Noone at ASMo noticed them. My friend took the Keys to the Kingdom tour and his Thanks Walt shirt was a BIG hit with the guide and 1 other guest. He said the tour was great. I'm a bit afraid to tell this story but it is so funny. We had a 7:30 am flight on 8/31 and didn't go to bed til 11pm then had a 6:15 wake up call for breakfast with Pooh. After several hours at MK I took my DS back to ASMo for a nap but he'd have nothing to do with it so we headed back to MK. I think the break from the parks did help so it wasn't a wasted trip. When going through security back at MK the guard asked me "Do you believe?" "Excuse me?" "Do you believe?" "WHAT???" "Your shirt???" "OHHHH-Yes, yes, yes of course I believe". I was so out of it I forget I had on my Tink shirt. We wore our Incredible shirts on our last MK day and Cruela and Peter Pan and Wendy wanted to see if DS was a fast as Dash. He loved that.

I need to take new post trip photos of my shirts. I used transfers for light shirts and all the shirts are a bit worn and cracked. Another diser pointed out to me that the Old Navy shirts I used say NOT to iron anything on them but those shirts still look as good as the "regular" 100% cotton shirts except that the Old Navy shirts have a stain shield and they have no Mickey bar stains on them. I have to try the clorox bleach pen on the very stained Buzz shirt. My Tink shirt suffered the most. That Gap shirt was more tightly woven and had a slight ribbed texture. It is the most cracked and the navy bottle on that design shows the cracking more than the other designs. When I get a chance I'll take those follow up photos. I did try to reiron one of the shirts and it didn't seem to help any.

Now I've got to get hopping on autograph books for our October trip. What do you guys think if I tried using photos from past trips each child with the characters? Would that be worth the effort or should I just use clip art of the characters that I could use for all 3 of my kids. I was thinking of also doing one for a friend who will join my DD & I for the first 2 days and I have a coworker going the same week as me with her 2 kids so maybe I'll be making 6 sets.

Also the filmstrip WDW one you just did is really cool.

the brand name on the kit is rainbow rock - Micheals has them - I got them at hobby lobby for $10 a kit - I used all three sets they had - I bought an individual color and it is WAY more involved to mix it - so I definately reccomend the kit

here is a picture of them - I did not use the dreamy colors - I wanted them to be bright!

Here a few pics i took when i did my Tie-dye..

Figured it might help a few..
Pic one.. I cutout the mickey head shape.. its 9 1/2 inches across the big circle.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Shriva23/DSCF0322.jpg

Next i traced the shape on front and back of the t-shirt. (used a number 2 pencil.. just left a faint outline.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Shriva23/DSCF0323.jpg

The did a basting stitch (with plain white thread..about 10 foot total) about a half inch outside the line.. (simple in and out stitch..like a drawstring on a leather pouch)
Hopefully you can see it alittle.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Shriva23/DSCF0324.jpg

Then pulled gently on the two ends of the thread.. bunching up the head shape..
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Shriva23/DSCF0326.jpg

Then thie is what it looks like after its bunched up and rubber banded..
Head is the middle and ears are the little flaps on the side..
You can still see the pencil marks after you pull it all together.. i just made sure it looked straight and putt the rubberband right at the pencil mark.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Shriva23/DSCF0327.jpg

Repeated on the other side.. Now if you look at the shirt here.. the neck is toward us and bottom of shirt is away from us..
I folded the bottom of the shirt's corners into the middle alittle (forgot to take a pic)
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Shriva23/DSCF0328.jpg

Then i just pulled the 2 heads apart and rolled from the neck down.. (like a swiss cake)
The rubber banded in a few spots. (you can add more if you want.. i like about this many)
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Shriva23/DSCF0329.jpg

Then you add the dye.. i added alittle too much to the left side.. bleed alittle..sigh
Next time i will add less then wait about an hour till it soaks in and then maybe add alittle more.
Some of the middle areas take alot to soak through.. so may have to try it a few times if you get to much white.
Also, going to try another method to fill in the white later.. will post if it works.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Shriva23/DSCF0330.jpg

What it looked like after i rinced in sink... still wet and needing a wash..lol
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a205/Shriva23/DSCF0331.jpg

Hope that may helped some people out on the basics of how to do it!

Hoping one of the graphic people here might know how I can convert a TIFF file to a JPEG file. I took a bunch of pictures of my nephew this morning with my digital only to discover they are formatted .TIFF! Anyone have any suggestions? I would hope I can still get prints made but Google didn't turn up anything to help me. .JPEG I know how to work with!!

HELP! :listen:

Looks like you need a converter - try one of these? http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=convert+tiff+to+jpeg&meta=

Here a few pics i took when i did my Tie-dye..

Figured it might help a few..
Pic one.. I cutout the mickey head shape.. its 9 1/2 inches across the big circle.

Next i traced the shape on front and back of the t-shirt. (used a number 2 pencil.. just left a faint outline.

The did a basting stitch (with plain white thread..about 10 foot total) about a half inch outside the line.. (simple in and out stitch..like a drawstring on a leather pouch)
Hopefully you can see it alittle.
Then pulled gently on the two ends of the thread.. bunching up the head shape..

Then thie is what it looks like after its bunched up and rubber banded..
Head is the middle and ears are the little flaps on the side..
You can still see the pencil marks after you pull it all together.. i just made sure it looked straight and putt the rubberband right at the pencil mark.

Repeated on the other side.. Now if you look at the shirt here.. the neck is toward us and bottom of shirt is away from us..
I folded the bottom of the shirt's corners into the middle alittle (forgot to take a pic)

Then i just pulled the 2 heads apart and rolled from the neck down.. (like a swiss cake)
The rubber banded in a few spots. (you can add more if you want.. i like about this many)
Then you add the dye.. i added alittle too much to the left side.. bleed alittle..sigh
Next time i will add less then wait about an hour till it soaks in and then maybe add alittle more.
Some of the middle areas take alot to soak through.. so may have to try it a few times if you get to much white.
Also, going to try another method to fill in the white later.. will post if it works.
What it looked like after i rinced in sink... still wet and needing a wash..lol

Hope that may helped some people out on the basics of how to do it!

Thanks so much for posting!!!! I'm soo not crafty  and I didn't have a clue on how to Tie-dye, even after reading everyone's instructions. But now with the pics I understand. :teeth: I'm off to A.C. Moore for more T-shirts. :cheer2: Thanks again!!!

Had some other ideas for you for Christmas shirts today.

1) Use the gingerbread house at the GF in the background. You can find a photo on the DCL DIS board at http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=9464280&highlight=Christmas#post9464280.

2) Do a DCL Christmas one. Here is a photo of the atrium http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=8986798&highlight=Christmas#post8986798. You could also PM "tinksdad" as he was on the Christmas cruise last year and took some fabulous shots, so he might have some shots of the Christmas tree alone, the gingerbread house, etc. Also have to look through my own photos from last year's Thanksgiving cruise.

How are you going to go about making a door sign? I've heard of people making door signs for their Disney Cruise doors to make it easier to find their room, but I've never seen one.

Thanks!

Jennifer

I just printed it on regular paper.
Then slip them in Avery plastic page covers.
Tape it to the door.
I have seen on the Cruise thread.
People printing them on magnet sheets.
You just print them out just like the transfers.

We are also decorating the window.
Home Depot Mickey paint samples 1 of each color.
DS idea.

the brand name on the kit is rainbow rock - Micheals has them - I got them at hobby lobby for $10 a kit - I used all three sets they had - I bought an individual color and it is WAY more involved to mix it - so I definately reccomend the kit

here is a picture of them - I did not use the dreamy colors - I wanted them to be bright!

Has there been a discussion about which transfers work best??? I have used the Avery transfers in the past with much success. Creating a mirror image has not been a problem for me.

My big question i about colored t-shirts. Although I have done a few dozen t-shirt ... they were 3 different designs. Two were only black (wording) and the last was full color - but we did it on a white shirt.

I don't prefer to use white shirts .... mainly because of the staining. (DH - pit stains - you knopw the deal) I would love to use some colored shirts ... but will the Avery (for light colored shirts) work well. What color shirts have they worked wel on?

Also, are there any for dark shirts that don't have that "rubbery" feel? I fear that in short order they will crack and the Avery shirts I made in the past have held up fabulously!

You have to go into your temp folder right after viewing the full size pics. (clean you temp folder out before viewing them again). The pic will be stored -- full size -- in your temp folder but I believe they put a "time to die" on it of 5 minutes. So .. don't dally.

Thanks to this thread, my sis-in-law & I were inspired to create our own Mickey tie dye t-shirts for the 8 of us! AY-YI-YI!!!!!!! :headache: It's way harder than I thought!

So here are 3 so far. The fourth one (for my niece) didn't turn out - the Mickey head looks like a koala bear so we have to redo that.

I just dyed the 4 adult ones and will post the successful ones tomorrow.

THANKS to everyone that posted their shirts and the tips! I really appreciate it!

Thanks for all the compliments everyone! I hope the rest turn out as good!

I traced a Mickey head in pencil, then stitched around the head using dental floss. Pull it really tight (don't break the floss though!), tie it, then wrap the floss ends around the gathers pulling really tight while you wrap. Then tightly put about 4-6 rubber bands around it, keeping all the bands below the stitching so it makes a sharp defined shape. You want about an inch of rubber bands.

You'll have a poof with 2 tiny ear poofs on top of the rubber band "stem". Cover these with saran wrap while you dye the rest of the shirt (I just wrapped the shirt in a spiral and rubber banded it following the directions in the dye kit for a spiral design with the Mickey head in one of the 6 sections you create when you do this wrap.) Dye the mickey head last, then rewrap in new plastic wrap. (clear as mud yet? LOL)

Be very very careful not to get the dye near this rubber banded "stem". The dye bleeds a lot further than you think! That is how I messed us my niece's shirt - it bled through the rubber bands and made a mickey head blob.

I let these sit overnight. The kits we used were called Rainbow Rock Tie-Dye by Duncan Enterprises in Primary and Classic colors. The primary colors don't blend, but the Classic colors did, creating green, purple & orange.
We got the kits at JoAnn fabrics. They were $13, but we used 40% off coupons for them. Each kit did about 3 shirts. I think you can get more shirts if you dilute the dye more. We used it full strength.

Also, use an old t-shirt to do a practice run!!! We learned a lot doing a practice shirt first. Good luck!

I'll post more tomorrow!

I am really glad you said that! My DH2B and I both want to learn PhotoShop, and I figure making shirt designs is a really good way for us to learn it. You don't learn a program until you use it a lot, right?!

I surprised him with shirts for our trip over Labor Day. Then I was so excited that I showed him a bunch of designs I had saved from this thread for our future WDW trips. I kinda overwhelmed him with my enthusiasm. He didn't say anything, just sat there numbly. So I was afraid I had ruined the plan to learn Photoshop. Glad to hear some one else's beloved male has caught the DDA craze, too!!

As you will see in the attached photos (thanks to itslisa for helping me with technical issues re: the photos), my DBF and I are wearing what appears to be Ben & Jerry's shirts.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a192/pinkmoonbeams/BJatCastleSept2006_2.jpg

Actually, since I am Jen and he is Berry, the B and J are reversed to say our correct names, as you can see more clearly in the second photo. My parents call us Ben & Jerry's all the time, by accident, so I thought it would be fun to have shirts like this.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a192/pinkmoonbeams/BJatCastleSept2006_3.jpg

I asked Kate if she would mind creating this design for me, since I have been too chicken to try my hand at the software, and she did a fabulous job! The design came out better than I even imagined! I had her cross out Vermont and put Florida since WDW is in FL and since DBF is dying for us to move back to FL. Then Kate and I thought it needed a saying, so I came up with A Premium Combination since B&J's makes premium ice cream.

I made the shirts as a surprise for DBF for our trip last weekend/Labor Day. I was going to pack them in my suitcase, then lay them out on the bed while he showered at the hotel. But I got so excited after I made them that I had to show him while we were packing. He loved them!!

We got all sorts of comments on the shirts at MK. Cast members and other visitors all said "are you from Vermont?" but when I had them look more closely, they realized the letters were reversed. Everyone, including the CMs who took these photos, thought the design was so clever.

Thank you again, Kate, for creating these special shirts for us!!!

Jennifer

P.S. Tropical Storm Ophelia was going by overhead, so we look totally squinty in all these photos. We have eyeballs, I swear!

Mine is a lesson in what not to do - I don't like the yellow mickey head, and I did not use enough pink dye or I didn't get it into the folds well enough.

I decided to go with the less structured tie dye pattern so I wouldn't stress about it being perfect!! Okay - I confess - I decided that while I was doing my rubberbanding b/c I thought the other way was easier!!!! :rotfl: I just gathered pockets of fabric and rubber banded and then add the die in areas that needed it!!

Those are just amazing! :earseek: I am too terrified to even attempt it! :rotfl:

Thank you so much! :goodvibes

I think you should find some old t's and practice - it's not hard (but it is work!) and I definitely got better with practice! Another idea I saw here was to just do 2 colors - do the Mickey head a dark color like blue and the whole rest of the shirt a lighter color like yellow! That would be a lot less work and mess!

Which colors are these...the primary or the classic? I like these more than the darker. They all turned out great!

These are the classic colors - turquoise, fuchsia, and yellow. FOr some reason they blend better creating rainbow colors while the primary ones don't.

Thank you so much! DBF loves "How to Fly" (not sure what the real name of the early Mickey movie is). He's getting this shirt for sure!!

I just clicked through your Disney Designs site, and I love the "Dining my way through Disney" design. Fabulous mix of the ears and the dinner plate!!

Here's another site with some good Disney pictures...

http://www.bestart.com/grid/artist/66/

Some of the pictures have a "watermark" for lack of a better word, but you might be able to clean that up.

This one has some great pictures you might be able to use for shirts as well.

If you do attempt tie-dieing other characters, let us know how they come out!

Actually, I never thought about that! The character head requests were for another project. But now....hmmmm. I have been saving a few of the kids' outgrown shirts just for practice. If they work, dd19months can always wear them later. I may just try it. Have to do the mickeys first though. I will let you know if I try the others and how they turn out.

I was inspired by the "Walt Disney World" and "The Dark Side of Walt Disney World" designs and created my own for my DS. Since he has an unusual name, it is unlikely it will be useful for anyone else! I think he'll really enjoy it since he doesn't often get things that are personalized - his is never in the stores.

OK, so we are now going to the Candlelight Processional since they have made it available with the dining plan. Has there been any CP shirt designs? I can't remember.

Oh, yeah, and I am now doing the double digit dance! :flower:

I made this one a while back.

Totally OT, but these costumes came in the mail today. My boys are going to wear the Prince costumes to CRT and PSB while DD wears one of her Princess costumes. I'm biased, but I think they are adorable!
