OK guys! I've actually been checking this thread several times a day from the beginning and I'm still confused!! Is this thread being done away with totally and split into several different threads? And what is this about a tip threads? Can someone please take the time to explain exactly what is happening so this DENSE diser can feel like she has it all under control???? THANK YOU!!! :)

I personally am in favor of us still posting here but the beginning of the thread referring people to the design gallery and tip thread and then they come join us in this thread without having to go through hundereds of pages!

Thanks so much!! :cool1: They look possitively magnificent  I like the shirts with the border around neck and arms. It all looks so pofessional! What kind of transfer paper did you use?
Thanks again for helping me to see your beautiful work!!! :earsgirl:
Debi
I used Avery transfer paper for light colored shirts for all but the black T. For that one I used some brand I've never heard of from Micheals. (Julie something...). It was just 3 sheets and I had a 40% off coupon. I cut close to the design for all the white shirts using scissors as I don't have experience with an exacto knife. I cut the Mission Mickey design right up to the edge so I wouldn't see any white.
After my trip I'll start thinking about making shirts for my October trip. DD has already asked where hers are. I think I may try the BJ's transfer paper that is $18.99 for 30 sheets. I paid $24 for 18 sheets at Staples for the Avery paper.

I am sitting here utterly exhausted and almost in tears because I was up until 5:30am working on everything I'd gathered up for the past couple weeks together in one place.I thought I was doing a good thing by moving the thread to it's own board since people were complaining about ALL the pages to read and too much to catch up on. Hard to find design ,tips etc.:guilty:
My mind is in a haze at the moment. But I'll try and explain.
My outlook on the whole thing was...say someone wanted a design. They'd start their OWN thread on the board like with a title "Looking for a Design for my son's Birthday trip" then inside the post it would say he'll be 12 loves Sticth, anybody have any ideas. Then everyone could disuss on that thread about that particular design etc.
Or start a new post that says Hey J&nMom,can you make me such and such....
He Midnite....can you design a 3 D design for Space Mt?
Hey can you make a Titans football design for me...
etc etc
I was thinking THAT WOULD MAKE IT EASIER for everyone...now I'm not sure. :confused3
Finished shirts I thought would be in the Finished Shirt thread.....make comments there about the finished product.,oh I love your shirt it lookes great...etc...so ALL THE FINISHED SHIRTS were in one place and easy for people to veiw.
The Design GalleryI was trying to keep a place where people could just look at designs and NOT have to wade through a gazllion post...that's why I've locked it so it will only consist of pictures... similar to the webpages some have set up.ALL the designs would be in one place so people could scroll through the pages and find a design they liked.I have the designer listed and will customize so the person can PM then for the customized design...then when the design is done whoever made it...say MOMOF2OH she'd start a post on the CSS Board and say...your design is done...then everyone would be able to see it and make comments on it and ask for one themselves if they liked it.Then everything wouldn't get lost in a huge thread. Then I would add the new design to the Design Gallery.
Welcome post I thought this would be our chit chat post...oh you're form TN ...me too...etc etc so all that didn't get lost in pages and pages.
FAQ&TIPS...where you ask questions about how to make shirts.Chit chat about that.People were giving the same tips over and over...now there is a post to refer to...there's plenty of room up there for more tips as people discover new secrets as they make their shirts.
Honestly I'm not going to be some post Nazi....I want every one to have fun :cool1: and chit chat etc wherever you want to in your posts :sunny: ...You have the ENTIRE CSS Board at your disposal !
Right now I'm too hazy and sorta overwhelmed...I'm sorry if I've confused everyone. That was not the goal I was aiming for. :guilty: I was trying to make things easier...I'm not sure I accomplished that at the moment.:(
We'll see how things go over the next few days...I'll listen to suggestion and we'll see if we can all get this working smoothly as the community that we came to know and like. :grouphug:
Ya know Rome...and WDW weren't built in a day! :earsboy:
Once again I'm sorry to cause so much confusion. :guilty:

Aarrgh!!!! I have spent days reading this thread trying to catch up. It was around 200 pages when I started and is over 280 now that I have finally finished! AND now it morphs into an entire BOARD?!?! Aarrgh!
Kudos to all those who have posted designs - they are all fantastic. Now, I just need to get started on my own!
Just a few thoughts that I have been holding onto as I read the whole thing...
For those going in early December - from over 10 years of visiting WDW the 1st weekend of December - most of the time the weather is gorgeous. Maybe a little cool in the evening and early morning, but a little layering works great. HOWEVER, there was that year that it was well below freezing! The orange groves all froze and Disney gardeners were frantically replacing plants in the parks. We were very grateful for our long pants, jackets and even scarves & mittens that year. Assume the weather will be nice, but then pack one warm outfit "just in case"!
There hasn't been much said about Paint Shop Pro. This is certainly another alternative for this type of design. It is very similar to Photoshop and has most of the same features. Although most professional graphics folks normally use Photoshop, a lot of "prosumer" graphics people use Paint Shop Pro since it has most of the same features and costs less. I have been using it for years for photo editing and recently started using it for digital scrapbooking. Just wanted to mention it for those who are still choosing which program to use....
Once again - great job on the designs everyone! This thread is the internet at its best!!!!!!!
pdarrah
pdarrah Thank you SO MUCH for the Paint Shop Pro info. I have it, just haven't figured it all out yet...so it's good to know I got the right tools, just have to learn how to use them!
Oh, and I couldn't agree more on #1. We lived in Jacksonville for 3 winters. The first 2 we wore shorts on Christmas....the 3rd we dug out our ski parkas! No lie! The weather can really do anything and it's a good idea to have some layers! ::yes::

Baloo - you did exactly what your goal was - I think we all just love our little thread SO much we don't want to abandon it -
I think the design, tip and finished product thread is PERFECT!!
I just think we like the convenience of keeping up with only one post - and since we are all caught up - we don't care that there is 4500 posts to read to get to the end (he he)
so I say keep the three threads as they are -
add a link to the first post of this thread to the other 3 - telling people they are the summary of the 4500 posts in the thread and that they can come to the end of the thread to join our DDA community - or is our thread too long and we need to start over in the introduce yourself thread?
I am also worried we are going to overwhelm the scrapbookers!!! They might hate the DDA pretty quickly if we are posting new threads and theirs get swallowed!!
We REALLY appreciate your work - it is awesome - we just are a simple group reluctant to change!!!
WE LOVE BALOO!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you're on to it julia & nick's mom! We like to have the one thread to keep up with each other....this is our chatter thread....we know where to find everyone, ask for designs, etc. But I also agree that the 3 new theads were desperately needed, 'cause it makes stuff easy to find!
So, what if it's like this:
This thread...continues as is...our happy little community keeps on keepin' on :)
Design thread....where designs are posted so they're easily found (GREAT idea to keep it locked so the designs don't get buried by chatter, Baloo!)
Finished shirts...where we can ooh and aah over the finished product
Welcome thread...use it to explain/link to the other 3...
I also worry about overwhelming the rest of the board....as much chatter as we have on this one thread, everything else may get buried if it becomes all individual threads, and we'd hate to wear out our welcome in our brand new home! We'd also hate to lose a request if it happened to slip on to page 2!
Good job, Baloo! :goodvibes You done good! I know this took hours and hours to put together and you should know how much we ALL appreciate your hard work! We just need to get everyone operating on the same page, uh, so to speak! :teeth:

Ok. . .with the help of many wonderful people on this thread I have finally finished Phase I-which is to say my t-shirt design in PhotoImpact. Thank you all!!! :cloud9:
Phase II-Design to t-shirt. I bought the Avery Dark T transfer paper on the advice of several posts that it was quality (I like that you don't have to print your picture in mirror image-with this paper what you see is what you get). Read the directions. . .sort of. Decided not to print a test page even though it was suggested about 100 times-didn't want to waste ink. Well guess what?! It came out portrait instead of landscape :badpc: so I wasted not only ink, but a $2 transfer sheet!!!
Second attempt (after printing out a test sheet). Design successfully put to transfer paper. :cheer2: Iron is heated, pre-washed t is ironed, design is ironed onto t. . .and ironed. . .and ironed! Oops. . .in tiny print on the bottom of page one of the directions it says to remove the backing off the transfer paper before ironing. Missed that! Now up to $4 in transfer paper ruined!
Third attempt (thank goodness I didn't ruin t) was finally successful. :bounce: The moral of this story is:
1. Start with a practice t-shirt-you're probably going to need it!
2. Do not skip the test print page-the gods will make sure that you do not save ink!
3. Read all of the instructions-do not forget to remove the transfer paper backing before ironing!
4. No matter how tempted, do not begin iron-on project after midnight. It will be doomed to failure!
If you do the above. . .it's not hard at all. Will post pics when I am finished with all 10 shirts.
I'm looking for the Avery transfer paper and have a question. I looked at the transfer paper for white shirts, and it says I need to have a program that will flip the design. I'd rather not have to do that since I'm a complete computer dunce! Does the transfer paper for dark shirts not require that you flip the design? Is it a specific type of paper that I need to look for? What does it say on the package about flipping the design? Thanks for helping me.

I'm not sure about the Avery for white.
I used the Avery for dark.
You don't have to reverse the design.
Here are a few of my tips.
Don't try to do all at 1 time.
Did in steps not as stressfull.
I wash shirts 1 day, printed designed 1 day, ect.
1. Wash & dry all shirts.
2. Print your design on the Avery paper.
3. Trim your design.
4. Peel the back paper off.
5. Measure for position on shirt. (I placed all designs 4in. down from collar)
6. Place design on shirt.
7. Put the paper sheet over your design.
8. Iron about 2 min. on hottest.
9. Let cool 2 min.
10. Peel paper sheet off. (save this paper can be used again for touch ups)

I don't have a design to share, but I do have some Christmas/Holiday phrases to throw out to the group:
Magical Merriment in the making (possible cruise phrase)
Merriment with Mickey and the Gang
Dreaming of Magical Holiday Memores
If I were to come up with other catchier sayings, where would I post them if this thread is being divided up? Should I PM a t-shirt designer?
I don't know if the following has been posted before, but I've used the Print and Press product from Wal Mart. It is a iron-on transfer. You can find it in the Craft/Fabric section of the store. It comes in sheets of 3 all 8 1/2" x 11" in white. Its for color injet/ color injet copy machines. I used the product to print photos for pillows. My computer iink and the print and press product worked really well and it only cost $4.96 at my Wal Mart.
I've finally caught up on reading all the pages of this great thread so post away! :cheer2:

Hi all!!
I'm okay just tired and overwhelmed.I was expecting more positive comments than negative this afternoon so that took me by surprise! :earseek: I'm sorry if any one is confused by all this new stuff...I think I AM CONFUSED now!! ;)
I have gotten some really nice responses and the things people don't like are helpful as well ...just bear with it as we get the kinks worked out. Thanks y'all are sweet! :goodvibes I care about all this and you people taking part in it and I don't want to muck it up.
I added some designs that people sent me but I think I need to take a step back for the evening and think about the suggestions I've gotten and take care of it later when I'm coherent! :earboy2:
I'm going relax now!! What did Scarlette say? "Tomorrow is another day."

Hard to find design ,tips etc.:guilty: (snip)
Baloo! Don't be upset! Please. Your hard work is fabulous! I LOVE the tips pages and the page to see the finished products. The finished product makes my day and to have a whole set of them together!? :earseek: :hyper: :faint:
You've done a great job and we do so appreciate it. :worship: :worship: :worship:
Cheer up or I might be forced to design a t-shirt for you! :earboy2:

Baloo- So sorry if you felt bad earlier! But- I have to say that now that I've read all the information in one spot that it is pretty darn clear to me now... and I think your thoughts are good ones. Thanks so much for all the time and hard work you put into this for us. When everything is all done, if you could just put the links all in one place that would be great! Now..... go and have a nice relaxing evening!

I agree with MidNite, Baloo! PLEASE don't be upset!!! :flower3:
I think some of the confusion came from moving to a different board. I know that I personally hadn't visited the Cooking, Crafting & Scrapping board. Plus I know I am subscribed to the Post your Homemade WDW trip shirts thread so I just go to User CP to see if something else has been posted to this thread. Actually looking at any board hadn't occurred to me.
This is awesome! I can easily go to the Tips thread (holy cow - LOTS of info there!), or the Finished shirt thread or the Gallery thread and find just what I need *AND* we still have this long going thread. This is really great! Love it!! You just need to give us a little time to get used to the changes.
So.... should I go to the Hello thread to find out what part of TN you are from? We used to live in Nashville. :wave2:
PS: I think you should pretend to still need cheering up. Midnite makes AMAZING designs!

I have been in on this thread from almost the start although I don't really contribute much other than a couple of design suggestions for Midnite to run with :rotfl:
But, here is my take on this. The work you have done is exemplary. It is exactly what needed to be done. :love1: The only problem is, we weren't in your brain as you were thinking it through! (Maybe that is a good thing) :earseek:
Now that we see your vision, so to speak, it is making more and more sense to us and eventually everyone will figure out how to post in the right spot. Hang in there with us, please? We are learnin' as fast as we can :grouphug:

I took my grandson to Disney for Christmas (well, I took my entire family) and his favorite attraction was Playhouse Disney. I put the video camera on him instead of taping the show. He was just so cute. Clapping and dancing to the music (he was 13 months)
Anyway, he's not going this trip, but I'm going to make him a tshirt with this transfer. The Wiggles! He'll love it! Thanks..... :goodvibes

Baloo--I've been here from the beginning as well, though I haven't posted since about the first page. All your hard work will definitely pay off. It just takes a little while for everyone to "get on the same page" so to speak. This has been the BEST thread, and it will just continue to get better and more organized. Thanks for your work!

You know, I wouldn't mind helping out a few people with some transfer designs. How about this: first three people to pm me with their design idea that they want illustrated I'll create for them on a first-come, first-served basis? Should be fun :)
Be sure to inlcude what text you want, what colors you want, style ideas, what color background, etc. -- from page 19!

Okay - so I spent my day updating my website - it took forever and went to upload it and guess what - I had too many designs for Tripod - UGH!!
so I finally decided that I would link from my webpage to my photobucket account and then you all will also get instant updates!!!!
to do that - I had to delete all personalized designs (with names) if I deleted one of yours - and it is no longer in your PM - don't worry - I still have it - just let me know!
personal designs will not go in this account - they will go in my other photobucket account - a very nice DISer set my tshirt account up for me!!! so I will still PM those to you -
but if you want to see all my designs together you can now follow my link and they are all there!!!!

Ok, really gonna get off for the night.... But I wanted to ask Mommyof2OH (if you're still taking requests) for a few more FABULOUS stadium Mickeys. I was hoping maybe for Oakland Raiders? And (for my DH, mind you) the Bengals? (no laughing anyone.... for real :))
AND - please, please 'just say no' if I'm being completely overdemanding - If you CAN do it, I would ADOOOOOORE a Miami (of Ohio) Redhawks one like the Minnie cheerleader you made for triplefigs ('Bama). I would actually have something to wear to the games now that I've graduated from the uniform. :guilty: If you need pictures or any other details feel free to PM me.

Earlier today I also finished reading all of the pages - it has taken me a little over 3 days and everyone wants me to get a life! However, I am addicted to all of the fabulous designs and ideas everyone here has.
I actually even did a tie-dye shirt that turned out okay and have my 2nd try sitting right now! I will post them when I have a couple done.
I also sent a message to julia and nicks's mom about some designs for our October trip - I was so shocked with her quick reply back to me that she would work on them! You guys who are doing all of the designs are incredible and so generous with your talents. I can't wait to see more ideas!

Btw - I went to AC Moore today because I needed more shirts (now that's a surprise :rotfl2:
The shirts are 50/50. They were 5 for $10. All children's & Adults shirts, up to XL. Now if you need something bigger than XL (Who Me? :p ) they are full price. My store was stocked. Also, they had the light & dark transfer paper on sale for 50% off, so I bought 4 packages of them. Now I have about 25 dark transfer sheets and 20 light transfer sheets so I will be forced to make even more shirts. :teeth: Also, I have a 10% educator card, so that made the transfers (can't use it on tshirts) even cheaper. :bounce:

Well, I FINALLY got most of my shirts done tonight. I had NO issues with the transfer paper, and (knock wood), did not have any burning. The only this was that I used the Avery paper for white/light t-shirts, thinking it would work better---WRONG......all of the white areas in my designs ended up being the color of the shirt (ie, I have a PINK mickey mouse.... :rotfl: ) DH says they look fine, but I would have rather'd the white areas be WHITE. Oh well......I just have MY shirt left to do, and now with knowing that the design come's out looking like the color of the shirt, I think I may go and exchange mine for a white shirt :bitelip:
Thanks to EVERYONE on this thread for their designs, suggestions and general advise. This t-shirt "business" is HARD WORK :earboy2:

We are waiting for clarification from Baloo
I personally am in favor of us still posting here but the beginning of the thread referring people to the design gallery and tip thread and then they come join us in this thread without having to go through hundereds of pages!
Kate - I second that suggestion - I know there are a lot of pages to scroll through but I love this thread and I think if I had to look at several different threads I'd give up looking... just my 2 cents...

Oh no Baloo now I feel really bad - you went to soooo much effort and it is a great thing that you did for us - I think we were all just a little confused!

We could just keep this thread for the DDA ;0)

Yes because it is basically a sheet of plastic film that you iron onto the shirt BUT...some designs (like most of the ones I did) would be hard to cut around completely. The designs that have solid backgrounds with borders would be easiest to cut out. Well thats my understanding anyways. I actually only used light transfer for my white ts and the one dark transfer I did was on a black T.

I have a question...i just got Avery transfer paper for dark shirts (not cheap stuff! :sad2: ) It says for use on 100% cotton shirts...can you use this on 50/50 cotton/poly blend? Anyone tried that? Or do I need to go get more shirts in all cotton? :guilty:
I am trying my first shirts today..hopefully they will come out nice & I will post a picture.

I only used 100% cotton. The light transfer says cotton or cotton blend so if the dark says 100% cotton I don't think I'd try the blended T's.

What brand and where do I get this glitter? It really makes a difference!
I got spray on glitter near the transfer paper at Hobby Lobby. I don't remember the brand. I'm at work so I can't check. I know some didn't say they were permanent. It was really easy to use. Remember to spray from a distance, the first time I sprayed to close and it looked gloppy. I dabbed the excess off with a paper towel. Good luck!

I was worried about this, too, when I bought the Avery transfers. On the outside of the package it says for 100% cotton, but inside on the tips sheet it says "any color cotton or poly/cotton blend fabric", so 50/50 shirts should be fine. I haven't actually used it yet, though. It also says to not use a glass surface to iron on. Some had suggested using a glass top stove, so maybe it is okay with some of the brands, but I am not going to chance it with Avery. If anyone has any actual experience with either of these, please respond! :)

loridee-check out the finished T's thread and you can see some white T's done with "dark" transfers. You can see the white around the design.
Completed T's thread (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=892911&page=1&pp=15)
I used Avery for my white t's and some "off" brand for the dark. I don't remember what the dark transfer I used said as to fabric content.
I did read that on Avery not to use glass but after reading that someone else had success using their stovetop I decided to use mine too as the last time I used my butcher block kitchen island but that was a bit too high. I didn't have any problems using my stovetop.

Geez I was lost on what page to begin today! :p When I finished everything up yesterday morning I tossed the post-it I had on my screen that I'd mark what page was the last when I read!
I have a few thoughts but not sure I'm going to have enough time to write it all down right now...have to leave to pick DS Erich up in 45 min.We have Open House later this evening so it will be awhile until I get back online.
Anyway I guess we can just keep chit chatting around on this thread.I still think it will overwhelm anyone new coming to it BUT the link I have on the TPAS Board links to the entire board not just this thread so I
I'm hoping newbies can peek into the other places, read the welcome post and then jump in here to this community thread.I also have NO IDEA how many posts a thread can handle :earseek: ...I'll have to ask a WM about that! :)
I know some have suggested links in this thread...I'll have to read through those more as it all was not clicking in my muddle mind yesterday! :earboy2: But what I'm getting from alot of you is that you have the THREAD booked marked/Saved as Favorite...not the CCS or TPAS Boards .I didn't know people did that! :confused3 I've always book marked each board I visit then click onto whatever board I'm going to then I scan the entire board for new posts or ones I've responded to and I'm still interested in. Bookmarking a thread was a new one to me! :earsboy:
I was hoping that when anyone had a TIP they could put it on the FAQ&TIPS thread.http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=892906
lovesdumbo,Mrs Squirrel,Brendita,Mommykds and taeja71 had several great tips as I read the new pages from today but I'm afraid they'l get lost in this thread in a few days.

I'm going to start doing these tonight. I'm a little nervous as I am not as crafty as I wish I was. I pretend to be, and sometimes that can be disappointing. Wish me luck.

I went about 5 minutes....but you have to watch that you don't "burn" the image too. Just follow the directions that came with the transfers, and maybe go 1 or 2 minutes longer and that is it.

Yippee!!! I just finished my first shirt!!! I used a Stitch Design with my dd's name on all in purple curtisy of MOMOF2OH who was very kind to send me matching designs for my 3 kids. I used Burlington transfer paper for light shirts (I used a white shirt). Worked out very well..I don't have a great printer so the design is not as vibrant but nonetheless looks pretty good for a first try. Now I have to do the other 2. I guess it's back to AC Moore for me!!!!

Here is my first design. My DS6 sat and gave me advice throughout, so I guess it is a collaboration! The "green smoke" is supposed to be like the magic mirror from snow white.... I know the clipart with Mickey & gang in their villain costumes has been used before - but I just love it. We just used lots of effects (Paint Shop Pro 9) on the castle until DS6 declared it spooky enough. The text is the Ravenscroft font with a 3D bevel applied to it.

You guys saved me!!!!! I posted last week about ideas for my son' s fair box. Well we finished it at 2AM the night before the fair. I was in a panic about how to decorate t he top. I was going to print out letter and cut and paste them on, but they took to long to cut, so I thought clear paper (photo protector pages) but the ink rub off.
The ink rubbed off
I printed my words again in mirror mode (which I learned here) and rub them on the the top of the varnished box.
IT WORKED GREAT!!!!!!
I used the Waltogragh font for our family name in the middle with each of our names around the edges. After four days of sitting in a cow barn and
having people sit on the box it still looks great.

julia & nicks mom - As I wrote to you...thank you, thank you, thank you! I thought I was going to keep these a secret but my DS has already seen my computer! He started jumping up and down about how cool the shirts are going to be!
He did have one request that I am not sure can be done (and if it can't it is not big deal because I told him that this is what we get and he was fine with it). However, as much as he loves Buzz, he asked if he couldn't have Captain Hook on the Polynesian shirt since that is who he is dressing up as.
So, if you get a chance, could it be switched? If not, I am still totally in love with them and can't wait to make them.
The ideas on this board simply amaze and impress me.
Thanks to everyone for the inspiration!

I saw a design several pages back (can't find it again, of course) that I would love to have personalized if someone could do it. The design is the stick figure Mickey's and Minnie's. If there is someone who can do it, here is what I need:
Neves Family Vacation
Then 6 of the figures labeled the following way:
Dad, Mom, Katie, Jacob, Leslie, Mary
I would appreciate it greatly. Oh, by the way, Leslie is a girl. My husband says I have to let you know since his name is Leslie, as well. If anyone could help me out, thank you, thank you, thank you. :worship: :worship: :worship:

Here is my first design. My DS6 sat and gave me advice throughout, so I guess it is a collaboration! The "green smoke" is supposed to be like the magic mirror from snow white.... I know the clipart with Mickey & gang in their villain costumes has been used before - but I just love it. We just used lots of effects (Paint Shop Pro 9) on the castle until DS6 declared it spooky enough. The text is the Ravenscroft font with a 3D bevel applied to it.

Good morning everyone! Well, I have made another one - this has been hanging around in my head for a while. It is for a pillowcase for my son for our cruise this fall.
The concept is that the Magic is flying off to Neverland on pixie dust :)
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a301/pdarrah/MagicalDreams_compressed.jpg
How I did it - for those who are interested.....
The hardest part was removing the background from a photo of the ship - it took about an hour to get all the bits around the edges. The "pixie dust" is just little star clips. In Paint Shop Pro we have "picture tubes" (the icon looks like a stamper marker) where you select the "tube" you want and then just keep clicking to put them whereever you want them. I assume other programs have a similar type of thing. Once I had the stars I applied a couple of effects to them ("colored edges" and "dilate") to make them look a little more magical. The moon is a photo - it was easy to remove the background for that one and I made the layer it is on a little transparent to make it blend in a bit better. The text is ChopinScript from dafont.com. I used a gold metal fill and then applied an inner bevel to it 3 times. I'm not sure why it turned silver, but I liked the look so I kept it!. I also added a drop shadow to the text.

I havent used it on white yet, but I just did it on gray and I found out that where I pressed the hardest the colors were much more vibrant. I had to redo parts to make the colors match. I stood up on a chair so I could get my weight behind it and used the tip of the iron and the colors came out great! At one point I thought I was burning it, because it smelled terrible, but there were no burn spots.

I got the Hanes 50/50 at AC Moore. I was actually trying to shrink one because it was too big for my youngest dd..well it wouldn't shrink very much at all.. so if you don't want them to shrink, I highly recommend the Hanes 50/50. I did 5 matching shirts (for me, DH, & 3 kiddies) in white with the family magic tour design on (curtisy of Julia & Nick's Mom - Thank you!)...also did a lime green one with Mickey & friends saying "Our Disney Vacation October 2005"(KMH1's design - Thank you too!)..those came out very sharp & vibrant. So far so good!
By the way, I used Burlington(printworks) dark transfer paper & it worked out very well.

What brand are you using? I posted that in my very humble experience Avery dark paper makes the colors more vibrant. I don't know about other brands. But. . .I also always use bright colors on my transfer designs. Can you post a pic of your design or t-shirt so we can see what you mean?

mommykds-Oops! I jumped the gun and didn't see that you got your questions answered in the next few pages. Glad things turned out well
Also. . .for the general good.. .I washed my transfers both before and after, because someone awhile back posted that they did not and the colors bled a little on their transfers.
The Avery directions indicate: For best results, wash garment before wearing. Turn garment inside out if possible. Machine Wash Cold; do not dry clean. Color-safe detergent. No chlorine bleach. Remove promptly from washer. Colors may bleed if left wet to long. If bleeding occurs, rewash immediately. Tumble dry low. Add towels to improve drying. Do not iron a transferred image. If garment needs ironing, cover transfered image with ironing paper before ironing.

1. T-shirts are from cheapestees.com. They are Gildan 100% Heavyweight Cotton. I searched extensively on the Internet and this was the only co. I found (inexpensively) that carried matching colored shirts in youth and adult sizes. You can easily find many size shirts at any Tee retailer, but frustratingly they will not carry the same colors for all sizes. Our family shirts span the range between Youth XS which is really too big for toddlers to 2XL. The sizes seemed to run large. I used coupon code W05211 for 10% off before shipping. The shipping was fast and I had a good experience when I had to return a few shirts I accidentally ordered in the wrong color.
2. The design was my idea, but the background map was graciously donated by MidNite. I used PhotoImpact, and I am still learning daily all the wonderful things this program can do. It is fun! The Pooh characters came from a Google Internet image search. All were readily available except Lumpy. I had to extract Lumpy from a web banner image with a lot of cropping and erasing. The majority of the writing is Pooh font and the word ‘World’ is in the Disney Print font. I downloaded both of these fonts from the internet after a Google search on free fonts. I used the instructions found in the tips sticky.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/mrssquirrel2000/04ea2579.jpg
3. I printed all the back transfers at the same time on best quality and with hp premium paper selected after running a test page on the lowest quality setting to save ink. The adult & youth transfers are almost 8.5’’x 11’’. The toddler transfers are about 7.5’’ x 10’’. The toddlers also have a smaller badge size. I printed my transfer on Avery paper for dark shirts. It is more expensive than the light shirt transfers, but I find the colors are more intense and white on a design shows up white no matter the shirt color. Also. . .no mirror image printing necessary with Avery dark paper.
4. I double washed the shirts and dried them on high to get them to shrink a little. Not much luck. Oh well. . .eating room! I ironed the shirts inside out to get them smooth as I didn’t want to make any of those shiny iron marks on right side of the shirt where the transfers would go. I ironed on all of the badges first after trying on my shirt to get the. . .ahem. . .proper placement so to speak! Then I inserted a heavy plastic cutting board between the shirts to protect the badge while I transferred the main designs on the back. I got this tip from a DISer who posted this just recently. The iron-on process went smoothly for about the first 6 shirts. The last 4 started having problems. I think the cutting board was retaining heat. Anyway, a few of the transfers got stuck to the cutting board. When I pulled them free (no easy task) the transfer had stretched out of shape and created a bubble in the material. I thought I was going to loose it when this happened the first time! But, praise God I let the shirt cool a bit and them reapplied the transfer tissue paper over the transfer and VERY slowly reheated the stretched area and worked it until it shrank back into shape. Whew! :rolleyes1 I also noticed that a few of the transfers looked like the colors had blotched. It looked like what happens when you get water droplets on a color printout. Like faded ringlet areas. These turned out to be underdone areas on the transfer. Again, I applied the transfer paper and reheated those areas and the colors corrected themselves beautifully
5. Aside from the fact that the toddler shirts are long enough to be dresses, I think the project turned out well. I learned a lot and am looking forward to going to Disney again so I can try more designs on multiple shirts. I don’t know how you ladies do several shirts for one trip. One set of 10 shirts about did me in. Post any questions and I will try to answer before we leave. If not, I plan on posting a picture of the group wearing the shirts, so I can answer when I get back. I am also going to try to figure out how to post the actual design in the gallery in case someone wants it. Help Baloo!?

I got the Hanes 50/50 at AC Moore. I was actually trying to shrink one because it was too big for my youngest dd..well it wouldn't shrink very much at all.. so if you don't want them to shrink, I highly recommend the Hanes 50/50. I had to go back to AC moore today & get some smaller shirts & they weren't on sale anymore. :sad2:
Thanks for the info. I don't have an AC Moore, but I should be able to find the 50/50 Hanes somewhere.

I found (inexpensively) that carried matching colored shirts in youth and adult sizes. You can easily find many size shirts at any Tee retailer, but frustratingly they will not carry the same colors for all sizes.

The reason it's not working is it needs to end in either .jpg or .gif and for whatever reason those photos are encoded without the extension end (seems like it's a host thing). :confused3 If it had the .gif or .jpg extension it would show up. Try setting up an account with photobucket.com. They allow you to link photos. Hope this helps!

Paul - cute :goodvibes story. Get up this morning, grab my coffee, check this site (as usaual  ). scrolling down, looking at all the beautiful work. See yours, hit the first one and start checking them out. I get to the Germany one and see Oma & Opa. Now I had never heard these words used until about 4 years ago when my boss at the time had a DGD. He told me he was going to be an Opa? I had no idea what that was. He explained it to me. I have never heard anyone but him use it. Lo & behold, there it was again. I emailed him the picture. He has never been to DW but told me he would be taking his grand daughter when she got a little older. In the email I offered to redo the shirt for him saying Oma & Opa are taking me to see mickey.
Anyway wanted to share. I love your other shirt ideas also. :cheer2:

:goodvibes Hi Everyone -- here is my very first attempt at making a shirt. Don't be too impressed, because I "borrowed" most of each shirt. The Donald one I borrowed from this thread and the Walt one is from another DIS thread. The Walt one may look like its no big deal, but if you look closely in the castle tower, that's me, DH and DS peaking out of the windows. This is so much fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They're great! - I love the first one '*** you "borrowed" it from me :goodvibes
And the second because I can't believe you got that many characters in - and love the touch of putting you and DS in the window!
Now you've started - keep on designing!

What brand are you using? I posted that in my very humble experience Avery dark paper makes the colors more vibrant. I don't know about other brands. But. . .I also always use bright colors on my transfer designs. Can you post a pic of your design or t-shirt so we can see what you mean?
I am using Burlington...I saw your note & yes when you press harder the print comes out much better..However seeign what great results I got from the dark transfer paper, I think I am going to do all my other white shirts with the dark.
By the way, your shirt came out great & your ds is adorable!

MinnieMouseMom-love your Red Sox design!
MrsSquirrel-LOVE your shirts and the details are great. I've got more shirts to make for our October trip when I get home. I hope I get to see your shirts in person. Do you know what day/park you might be wearing them? Are you packed yet? I've got our clothes packed but need to work on the accessories. Hoping to keep it to carry on only since we're only going for 3 nights.

Here's my latest. We used to call all family vacations Quests for Fun when I was a kid. With 4 kids and dad insisting on driving everywhere that's what they were. Lots of stories now that we're older!!

So I don't to search this thread, can someone please tell me where I can get "cheap" shirts. I know that I saw it listed here sometime ago. Thanks.

There is some shirt information located in the Sticky - ~DISIGN TIPS~ at the top of the page. Not sure if that will help you or not.
