No docs here either - but it is raining - I like rain over snow and ice!!!
I contacted Mickey 1122 but did not get a reply yet. Can't believe it's Friday already or that December is finally here.
Going to the theater tonight to see "White Christmas" I love the movie and can sing all the songs :lmao: So my DH got us tickets to the play in Seattle for tonight.
Jen - bought my DH a canon coolpic 630 camera and a Canon waterproof casing for christmas. I hope he likes it - I did a lot of research and it looks good.
OMG its getting closer - only one more full week of school
You have been added to the list...of cheerleaders...so that is your reply from him that he got your PM...I look forward to cheeing with you...J
Jen..looks like you are going to have your own personal cheerleaders on board...lol...don't forget your pom poms girls...

and you know the funny thing is...the effects of today will still be felt by the time we cruise...did you know that everytime a flight is canceled...it effects flights for at least 2 weeks after the cancelation...pretty cool stat

They haven't told us much....they're trying to get the players in place first and have been having all sorts of technical issues. Sounds like they are worked out now. The game won't start until next week.

Ahhh, 2 weeks and we will be cruising. I have so much to do, I need to get my head out of my butt.
Congrats on all of you that have got your Docs - May I dance with you :goodvibes ? :dancer: :dancer: :dancer: . Hopefully, next week I'll get mine.
For those who were interested in Pinapple Beach Resort, this is what I have been able to find out -
Reservations with the resort - They are not accepting reservation requests for Day Passes before the two week mark. That would explain why my last two requests have been ignored. If anyone is interested, I would suggest that you send your request Thursday night (Friday will be the two week mark). You do not need to give any billing info, just the people's name. Be sure to print off your confirmation to bring with you. I plan on reserving the "Plan B" pass. 10:30-6pm, $45/pp +10% service charge. allegroantigua.com/english/daypass is the reservation site.
Transportation to the resort - In November it was reported it was $34 each way for a party of two, but they were told that if there were 4 or more people it would be $8 p/p. I m thinking during the Christmas week this may be higher????
When I send my request in, I will ask (again) if the resort can recommend a taxi company we could pre-arrange. Anyone interested can PM me(please don't email me) after they have received their day pass confirmations so I have a proper head count for a quote. If I can't get any info, we may have to just get off the ship together and see what the price will be :confused3 .
Bracelets are ordered. I had to order in increments of 20 so I have extras (mostly kids size since I only needed 11) if anyone wants one. The CS Rep knew the DIS boards - I thought that was funny.
We have crazy weather - yesterday was 70, today is windy and about 40 :cold: :cold:
Well, lots to do today...Hope everyone has a great day.

I have to say that I'm a little disappointed with the holiday decorations offered by DCL. Looks like they contracted them out because there is no Disney connection. They're just generic holiday things. Guess I'll have to scour our decorations for Disney stuff. Definitely bringing my stuffed sorcerer's apprentice stocking to hang on the fish :santa:

Ooh, great! I thought we might be too late for that. Mickey can go inside the room. I was gonna have to cable tie him to the fish so no naughty little person could take him.
I counted rooms on the two lists we have going, and it looks like there are 36 known room numbers listed and three GTY (or at least 3 people who haven't listed a room yet). There are some rooms on the Yahoo group list that aren't on the Holiday Cruise website list. And there's a contradiction for Disney Rocks - one site says 8046 and the other says 8048. Just want to make sure we have enough goodies for everyone and know where everyone is staying.
Do the GTYs get a room number with their docs? Don't think we've ever been through that before to know what the procedure is.

happy saturday night! and hello from disney world! hehe... my mom isn't feeling well. so we came back to the hotel after seeing the osborne lights. i went to go play in the pool but the waterslide was closed. so i sat in the hot tub and then played in the pool for short bit before coming back to the room. i would have gone to the adventurer's club (i've been wanting to go for ages) but i didn't want to go alone. so here i am. :rotfl2:
if you haven't seen the new osborne dancing lights this year, and you have the chance... it's amazing. i totally recommend it. we only have tomorrow left before we go back home *sigh* oh well... at least the cruise is only 14 days away! 14 days from now we'll be on the magic!

quick question... no one happens to know what movies they'll be showing during our cruise do they? my mom keeps asking if i know or if i can find out. she keeps saying i knew all kinds of stuff for our last cruise and she wants to know the same stuff for this one :rotfl2:

Good morning. Another day closer! Just discovered that I may need to go out and get new dress shirts for DH! Ugh. But I am slowly getting things packed and all seems to be well with that. DD saw my blue Disney crocs and now she wants a pair. Cannot find the blue ones anywhere around here. So have to see if she will settle for another color. Can find yellow, green, black and pink in her size, just not the blue. I need to see how the jibbitz work with those too....hmmmm.
Started my baking last night but ran out of flour so I have to pick some up at the store today. Busy day...Mom, groceries, :laundy: , look for shirts for DH, take Sam to the Christmas party to see Santa, bake, pack box to send to DF..... lots to do and not enough time to do it in.
Still much to do for cruise prep too...go to bank, finish packing, finish shopping so I can finish packing :lmao: , wait for docs.....
Soon soon soon :woohoo:

Good morning! I am packing today, too. I know I put away DD's adorable door decorations from 2004 but of course I can't find it. She was 6 then- more little girl than she is now. I'll keep looking.
The first night of Hanukah is the 15th, and we will be driving. Last cruise we did not leave our house until 10 pm and got to the hotel just past Jacksonville at 2 am and I do NOT want to repeat that painfulness.
For some reason, preparing for the disney cruise makes me more nervous than other vacations... I can't figure that out.

Target really is the perfect store.
We are trying to solve the two-way radio problem with limited success. They are never too useful in our hands despite the potential promise of the concept. When we cruise, it seems like impossible to find a channel that the rest of the ship is not using. So, this time I bought one that has over 2000 possible channels and a 10 mile radius (Costco is a great store, too). I just gave one to DD who is on her way to a friend's house that is less than 2 miles away. It stopped working before she got there.
We must be doing something wrong  .

We have tried using the radios at amusement parks and such and they just don't seem to work well with all the people using them and on the ship the structure itself will cause interference and block signals. I have a dry erase message board I am going to hang in the room and DD will have to leave us notes saying where she has gone. I doubt DH will, but it is mostly for DD to let us know where she has gone.

That's a great tip. Thanks! Our children probably would be too busy to remember to leave us a note- but they would also probably be too busy to respond to the walkie talkie even if it works...
DS says that when he wants us he will get on the elevator and, stopping at each floor, yell for us. Yeah, that'll work.

walkie talkies work everywhere except for Studio Sea and the Walt Disney theatre and the Buena vista theatre. I believe they either Jam them or just have no reception. Make sure you set the walkie to a really unique channel.

I guess I better figure that out. We generally stay at a Hampton Inn just because there are a lot of them on 95 and they are predictably clean with a decent free breakfast. I pick one around Jacksonville and make a reservation in advance.
Where do you stay?
-Sarah
PS. I just booked the Hampton Inn St Augustine I95 - it is at exit 318 (instead of 340's where Jacksonville is) so we will be a little bit closer for that exciting Saturday morning drive :Pinkbounc :moped:

Hi--we're staying in Jacksonville, at a Residence Inn...same thinking, decent hotel, free breakfast...we can get a bit bigger room there (good with five of us), and we are using DH's Marriott points. It would have been fun to meet, but I'm pretty sure we'll get in pretty late...don't think I'll be able to take high schooler out early, so he won't be home until after 4:00. We live on the North side of Atlanta, so our biggest problem will be heading South in Friday evening rush hour. Then we'll have another five hours or so of driving...By the time we stop and eat, etc. :sad2:
But it will be SO worth it!
BTW, I love St. Augustine...I think we're going to try to spend a night or two there when we travel back down to Florida for Spring break...have you ever spent time in the old part of town?

We spent a few hours there a couple of years ago on our way back from a Disney Cruise. My husband and older son (George) are very interested in history. I'll never forget when we pulled into St Augustine and they were talking about it being the first settlement and I said something about Plymouth Rock being first (dumb me) and George said "Mom, that was New England! This is New Spain - it's MUCH older!" Who ever heard of New Spain?
I am afraid I will regret making a reservation in St Augustine because although I'd like to get out on the early side (eg 4 pm) I am sure that my husband won't be able to and we will again be leaving at 10 and then have so much further to go. Maybe if he knows we have further to go, he will be more likely to be ready early :confused3 ! Probably not. I may be cancelling those reservations.

It's a 6 hour drive, maybe a little more. We try to get as far as we can the night before (after work/school) and then get up early with the adrenaline pounding us and the disney tunes blaring and drive the rest of the way (trying hard not to speed at this point).
Looking forward to seeing everyone on the cruise. I thought that since we live in Florida (12 miles west of St. Augustine) and I have to travel the interstate system quit a bit from South Carolina to South Florida I would give everyone a heads up for those traveling down the night before the cruise. I-95 is presently under construction in Florida from I-295 south to Jacksonville for lane expansions. It is also under construction from Exit 297 south to just before Daytona Beach. Most lane closings are at night after 7 PM for the resurfacing. (usually all but one lane is closed) After Daytona it will be smooth sailing (Sorry) to SR 528 and the port. Will take us about 2 hours on Saturday. We received our docs on Thursday so we are now getting excited.

I would bring the freshener. On our 10 day in 2004, there was a plumbing oder in our room and Disney couldn't solve the problem and had to move us to another room so they could tear into the pipes. We were in a 5024 and they moved us to a Cat 8 in it's place.

I keep reading about that problem on the trip reports. I think that is why I brought air freshener last time (I had read about the problem) but we never used it. Also, if your room smells like poop - what is air freshener going to do about it, really?

Good morning all. Hope everyone had a great weekend. I will pack next weekend.
Jealous that by next weekend some of you will be at WDW. I love it there but my DH and kids are not as excited as me. I am just a big kid.
Jen - Seattle pulled it out yesterday in football.
Disney said our docs and plane tickets were on the way. Man, I made the mistake of calling the general Disney reservation line Saturday and they told me they couldn't help me. TOUGH. My husband said call the Castaway club number and try again. They were able to do everything we needed, answer all questions, give us some suggestions. It was great.
**we needed to drop kids diving. With the cold and weather we were not going to get all required cert. 4 dives in before we left. Instead they will be touring with me, while DH dives alone. okay, not alone, with Kat's husband and Jen.
I bought another ornament for the exchange and gave away my first one. Can't seem to make a decision and keep thinking the next one I see is better.
Off to school. It seems my days are like everyone else's. Gotta pack, then get doctor appts, dentist appts, ortho appts, etc. all in afterschool before we go.
Take care - hoping everyone stays well.

you don't have to do anything with your bags. as long as you put the tags on them that they sent with you they pick them up for you. after you check them the next time you see them will be at your room. as you're walking through the orlando airport you might see the magical express people. they'll tell you where to go. i can't remember where you will see them. i don't pay attention to them cause i know where to go. but she'll need to go to the B side of the airport (regardless of where they're telling her where to go for luggage). she'll want to go all the way to the first floor on the B side and go all the way down to the end and that's where you check in. but they'll be people there to direct you as well.

All is well here...no snow...lol...no thanks....lol .. it is suppose to be 80 degrees today so will put on my Bathing suit and try to get rid of my shirt lines(on my arms) and short lines(on my legs) cause looks kind of silly when I put on my Bathingsuit...and I look silly enough in that as it is...
As far as the Diseased other ship goes...YUCK...no thanks to that also...One good thing and this is a maybe..is that there are soooo many kids that get sick and us parents get amune to all of it that we tend to get sick less easier...
all those other people on the other ships that are not around sick kids all the time...tend to get sick easier...make sence????
Also DCL is so awsome about keeping there ship...ship shape...cleaning all the time and offering antibacterial jell that that helps also...I use that and so do my kids all the time...on the ship they think it is fun to get jelled all the time so they say yes everytime that they see them...

Thankfully they are all wheeled and they hook together. Makes a nice little train! I will have to take things out of several bags anyway so I have all the stockings to hang when we board. I will also pull the door signs and magnets so I can get our door decorated right away!

Good Morning everyone!!!!!
I agree. I rarely get sick and neither do my own kids but I am around sick kids all the time at school and most of the time I skate free of it.
Disney magic also had a big norwich/norwalk ?? problem on the 11/25 double dip. I hope they don't leave any of it around for us :teeth:

I don't usually have tan lines for the simple reason that I put so much sunblock on that I don't tan much. If I don't use the sunblock I burn so instead I am fish-belly white all summer. :rotfl: I need to throw in a baseball hat for myself and find my cover up. I can't find it anywhere :( .

I'm planning my day around getting to the mall and getting my reserved copy...hey I HAD to get it somewhere and they gave me a poster! (I have a history of doing that with movie releases.)
I don't have to worry about tan lines either....after about August I'm not out in swimwear (just not one of those people that goes to the pool much after school starts) so we've got a blank slate to work with!
Robin, DH is out there with you, so he's missing our little cold snap. We were really warm last week, but cold front came through and brrrrrrrrr....it's OK, though, I'm actually in the mood to write Christmas cards, which I'm going to go do this afternoon.

Wow Susan--your to-do list sounds pretty massive!
Hi everyone!
Checking in quickly before I head out....
Just thought I'd mention that I saw on the news this morning that Royal Caribbean just had a big outbreak of notovirus(sp?) on a ship that returned yesterday. :scared1: Hope they keep it over there!
It's cold here today too...after 70s last week, our high will be in the 40s today. Brrrrrrr....but then into the upper 50s/low 60s the rest of the week...and sunny...our normal Winter range.
Everyone have a good day, I'm going to try to get a lot done!
Sorry to say that the 11/25 on the Magic also had a bad outbreak..here is the thread!!!!!

I know what you mean about the packing thing...that would so be me! I'm starting to lay out the things I've collected and start figuring out what I need. I've been picking up spare shorts and stuff for the boys, set aside our pirate stuff, accumulated a little door decor....but do I have enough? So much to figure out!
OK, back to the Christmas cards (these are for our non-cruise friends.)

I stopped home at lunch, no docs yet but UPS always comes very late for us. I swear, we must be at the end of the route.

Glad you're feeling better, Dee. Maybe your GI bug will give you protection from any new one you may encounter in the next few weeks...
I went overboard at Bath and Bodyworks on their antibacterial hand products. I figure that if my kids love the lotion/gel they may be more likely to use it!
But, from what I've read about this virus on cruise ships, the infection may be more likely to come from a food handler than from your own hand.
Oh well, one more thing to worry about, I guess.

As far as the yogurt thing......I always do this before I travel anywhere on an airplane, not just cruising. I received this advice in 2002 from an ER Doc friend of mine and it made sense to me. 2002 was the year they cancelled a Magic Cruise to sanitize the ship just weeks before I was to sail, and boy was I in a total panic about it.
I have never got the stomach bug, but I did end up with the flu coming off the 2004 Holiday Cruise, so I guess you can take all precautions and still end up with the heebie-jeebies :goodvibes
Also, not to bring up more negative stuff, but just wanted to remind people that were interested in Medical Evacuation Insurance to sign up. The company is called MedJet and thier website has all the info right there. It is $175/family for a 14 day period. Heaven forbid something happen, but is nice to know I can get a private jet complete with medical staff to Mass General in Boston if I need it.
OK, just happy thoughts everyone :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

We were on the Magic cruise that sailed just AFTER the one that was cancelled. Disney called and offered us a full refund plus 50% off another booking if we wanted to cancel, but we went anyway. No one got sick but they were being extra careful about everything -- on the buffet, you were served by a worker and couldn't serve yourself and had guys in bright yellow suits (which we called the "CDA" cleaning the pools every night. They also didn't have the refillable mugs (this was before the current free drink policy) and instead just put a sticker on your card if you bought the drink program and gave you drinks in regular cups. But we had fun anyway.

for some reason every pair we've ever brought doesn't work in any of the studios or theatres....i think they jam them so people don't use them
[Wireless Geek Mode]Jamming wireless communication is illegal under Federal law, so I doubt Disney is jamming the radios. Probably the way the theatre is constructed for acoustics and sound isolation interfere with the weak FRS signal.
BTW, I am sure y'all know that those "10 mile" claims are based on line-of-sight, with no obstructions in between, under calm conditions with no atmospheric interference. That's known as "sunny day" RF planning in my line of work. If you get 2 miles, especially through walls, consider yourself lucky. [/WGM]

I should have been clear that I was referring to private entities (such as Disney) that are forbidden from jamming wireless communication. The 1934 Communications Act and the FCC regulations that go along with it prohibit the use of cellular and radio frequency-jamming equipment, except by federal agencies. The Federal Government is exempt from most of laws it passes, including this one.
There is a case currently pending in Circuit Court to have this law overturned to allow state and local governments to jam transmissions, based on the Homeland Security Act.

And when I say ventriloquism, it's so much better than you would think.
It's Paco time! Chiquita! Do it!
Jen
I have seen him on TV before and he is very funny...his puppets are a hoot and his one liners are great!!!!!

NO DOCS here - sitting on our TAs desk!!! Are you kidding me?!? She told my SIL who is leaving Sun that she will UPS them out today. She was going to call everyone and confirm addresses. I got NO call today. Oh well. I am getting on the plane anyways :rotfl2: :lmao: You all might see me on the 5 o'clock news on the 15th if we don't get those docs. :lmao: :rotfl2:
Sounds like your TA needs to be hurt!!! I hope you get your docs soon!!!

Hi,
We are excited to be going on this cruise as well! I almost feel like we are skipping Christmas! My dd insist that Santa must deliver her presents to the ship! I hope he can make it. Looking forward to meeting other Dis'ers. Do any of you do VMK? My children are really into it but it seems that it is not available on the ship.
For those who don't know VMK is Virtual Magic Kingdom, an online game. :bounce:

Welcome!! My kids are teens 14 & 16.
Counting down the days...only one more Monday, two tuesdays, etc...
Anglea no docs here either. I confirmed the mailing date with Disney as 11/29. We still have very icy roads up here with temps in the low 50s expected today hopefully the roads will totally clear.
Only Dee seems to have gotten them from WA.
Kat I'm off to work and then bound for the dentist as well. I have a troublesome cap. I told the dentist that I had to have it fixed permenatly by the cruise and that was back in August!! Hopefully it will now be really fixed. Also scheduled a teeth cleaning while I was at it so my pearly whites will shine like a beacon on the ship. :teeth:

That's pretty amazing. Thanks so much for that information. I actually told her that a month or more ago but then I started doubting myself that that could actually be true. A disney person goes to baggage claim and takes the luggage off the carousel? What do they do if it's not all there...? I don't want to think about it, actually.
I will pass on your instructions to her.
Thanks!!
yeah they're pretty good. we've never had anything missing on a cruise or going to disney. actually this last weekend my bag came down on a later flight than i did cause i stood by for an earlier flight and it still got to me. so i'm sure they have someone looking out for stuff. that and they ask you have many bags you have.

Do you get a lot of snow where you live??? It is so cool to leave for a island vacation in the snow. :woohoo: It gives the vacation an extra special touch. Last year we went to WDW over Thanksgiving and came home to snow at our house and on the cars - it was great. The kids could rub it in that they had tans and everyone left behind had snow!!!

The temperature has dropped considerably. We have a pellet stove that has been burning consistently for about a week or so.
I'm hoping the snow will come after we leave and the schools will have a snow day or two while we're on the ship. It will be one less day for my DD, age 12 to make up.

I have also had an excursion glitch and maybe one of you has experience with this. We are a party of 6. We have three spots for the dolphin swim and we wanted all of 6 of us to go but only 3 of us to be in the water with the dolphin. Although I did not see that DCL provided this option, the tour operator's web site did, so I booked additional spots with them to just be "observers". But, I am not sure how I can be sure that the observers will be assigned to the same group as the swimmers...
See my problem? Maybe I can call Castaway Club? When I called Disney, the woman was puzzled that I could book with the tour operator directly. SHe said she never heard of that... She was no help.

It fit great and he tried it on and it wouldn't come off!!!! He used this gummy stuff to remove it and it only removed the porcelin. Not a good day. Now I have to go back next Wednesday to try again. This time in order to make it all come together before I cruise I have to take another day off (I am taking Friday off to fly to FL). At least it didn't break on the cruise.
On the good side had my teeth cleaned no cavities :teeth: I never have any. I hate the dentist soooo much I brush all the time. Now that I'm over 40 my teeth just break. :confused3 I do not like this - NO! :sad2:

I don't think they are going to give a theme...each team may pick their theme, but I don't think any of that will be revealed until after it is judged, and that won't be announced until after the red carpet show. So I think you have an open book! "

I don't think they are supposed to tell people what they are doing....not sure, though. :confused3 They gave them all password access places to do their work to keep other teams from borrowing ideas (guess that has been a problem in prior games.)
Did you find out about your docs? Mine came UPS but with you being in such a different part of the country FedEx could have been cheaper!

What size paper? I bought ink that came with the 4 X 6 I think. We don't have that kind of printer. So if it works I will bring it with us. That would be sooo cool.

Does anyone know if you need sign in/out privileges to get into the new Sea Quest? That's the place on Deck 2 for the 10-14 y/o crowd. Keith really wants to try it out but he won't have signing privileges...

I would think it is like the lab. If the child doesn't have privileges then the parent would have to drop them off and pick them up. I haven't read anything specific about how that works there though.
I don't know how many parents are giving their 10-12 year olds sign out privileges but unless she proves that she is not responsible enough Sam is going to at least start out having them. She wants charging privileges too and I draw the line there!

Actually I just searched the boards and it looks like, except for the time they come into Ocean's Quest from the lab, the place is a hang-out spot (no sign-in/out). Bad news for Keith...

Good morning everyone.
Well, no snow day today so kids are all at school. We do have a winter storm warning for tomorrow (starting at 2 a.m.). Might use up our 3rd snow day. They give us 5 snow days per year. After that, we have to make them up. It's never happened yet. We live right by Lake Erie so we get alot of "lake effect" snow.
I never did buy the special t-shirts for the cruise. I wanted the one that everyone had size problems with so I just never bothered ordering it.
I bought light up bulb necklaces (string of lights) from Current for myself and DD. Me and DD will be wearing them on embarkation day so come say hi if you see us. I'll look for those of you who will be wearing the t-shirts.
Kat--room # is correct.

Sorry, Dee - don't know much about that club either.
Julia will have sign out privledges also. She is at an age where she really wants that independence. We've tested her with it a couple times at home and she has done well. I have put much more stress on the safety rules that MUST be followed, and I think she understands how important those are. She usually doesn't break rules that are set down, but sometimes can forget to use her common sense  .

Honestly Judy, I don't know if my shirt is going to fit me comfortably enough for me to wear them at all. Not a total waste, though. Julia can use them..along withthe one I bought her. I guess she's all set  .
Ah, Lake Erie. I was wondering why you were getting so much snow. We have had anything yet (knocks on wood that it doesn't decide to blizzard on Dec 15th).

The info that I was givin was that it is not a "Club" per say ...and there is no checking in and out...but there is a councler in there making sure the kids dont jump on things and that the kids are age appropriate...there is also a schedual when younger than 10 can come in...It is just another place for them to hang out..for the 10-13(or is it 14?)abyway that is what the DCL said to me but it would not be the first time they were wrong...have you tryed to check on these boards aby typing in to "Search" under Sea Quest...have done that a while back and there were posts in there on it....

We should get together and make sure they have similar rules! :rotfl: That way there will be at least one other child that has to follow the same rules, eh? Sam is going to have to let us know via the white board in our room if she has gone somewhere other than the place she last told us. No going to someone else's room withouth parental permission from a parent on both sides. That sort of thing....

Well, we have to sit down and make our contract still, but our biggie (and she remembers this one from last cruise) is she is not allowed to be in the corridors unless she is going to a destination and is with a buddy, and is not allowed to be on elevators alone.

I'm kinda in the middle of where you guys are for the junior set. Kevin will be allowed sign out privileges, but there will be rules around it, only 3 or 4 places he can go from/to, other events only with pre-approval, etc. He's usually pretty responsible, so unless he messes up he'll be fine. He won't be going to people's rooms unless we've planned it ahead of time. I try to make mine hang out in the common areas as much of the time as possible...as long as this cruise is I might have to back off of that a little, but we'll see. He doesn't need charge privileges.
