I can report that the attraction was also at Walt Disney World until the late 90's.
Alas, it has now joined Mr. Toad, the World of Motion, and Horizons in Attraction Heaven. :(

You are right Mel. There is a ride (or at least was the first few times I went to DL in the late 90s.). From Mouseketrips: "Frontierland: Splash Mountain, Walt Disney World Railroad, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Raft to Tom Sawyers Island, Mike Finn Keelboats, Country Bear Jamboree". Can't find it on the DL website, but when you search for Mike Finn, it comes up with Tom Sawyers Island.
THE WOMEN ARE RIGHT AGAIN!!!
Of course, we women are right ALWAYS...But i am talking about in WDW, not in DL.. so i can't present this arguement to DH...he'll snap right back at me and "YEAH, maybe in DL but not in WDW!!"

Tracy--
I realized when I was switching out the photos that you had short hair in both pictures. I don't know what I was thinking. Perhaps it just looked longer because it was darker in the original photo!
At any rate, I like the new photo! ;)

THANK YOU!!!!
Ok i just yelled at this back to BOB and he is shaking his head NO NO !! He is beginning to aggravate me!! He just said, "i was there in the 80's and i don't remember no keelboats!!" I told him he has Amnesia!!!!
Are you sure it ended in the 90's???? I thought it was in the 80's!!!! We got married 1990 and i don't remember those boats after that!!

I think Tracy mistakenly put "DL" when she meant to put WDW. If you look at her post, the quote details WDW not DL. That is, unless DL now has the Walt Disney World Railroad! :)

Thanks! I wasn't going to say anything. It's been short for a long time now. Maybe its the weight loss? The new photo is about 15-20 pounds lighter. DH is lighter too in that one!

It could be that the attraction only operated seasonally at times. I know that they were operating, at least at times, in the mid to late 90's. The first year that I got my Annual Pass was 1997 and they were operating (again, at least seasonally) in that year.
The launching house is still there. Next to the Haunted Mansion queue entrance.

I know what you mean Tracy, but my DH would fight back on that!!!! DL IS NOT THE SAME AS WDW!!! he would say!!
I just told him to shut up and watch the darn movie...I won that argument and that is that!! He is now laughing at me!! He is really Pis*** me off!! I now wish this homeoffice is not next to our family room...I need peace and quiet here.

Actually Melinda is correct. The Stuffed Pork loin with apple sauce and baby roasted potatoes with brussel sprouts is great. I like to start it with either a Caesar salad or the New England Chowder. Its very thick and creamy but isn't fishy tasting.
For dessert I love their Coconut Cream pie. A nice coffee with a Baileys finishes off the meal.
I've been reading if you just drink lots of water with it there is no problem as to quantity. ;)

We stayed at Ron Jon's for two days prior to our cruise last Aug. We had no problem checking in early. Even got a room with a view of the port so we watched the Wonder depart. Beware the water slide. I felt every seam. We did walk down to the beach and over the pier to do some sealife spotting and were rewarded with a seaturtle. My kids are used to the Atlantic Ocean further north so the shallow water and lack of waves was disappointing to them. The resort does have lots to do, we played mini golf and watched a movie in their theater.
Grills is very close to Ron Jons our group had a meet there the night before the cruise. Dixie Crossroads is about a forty five minute drive and worth every mile. DH is trying to figure out how he will return on our next Fl. trip.

Andrew I'm just annoyed to hear that! I still have the messages from DU stating that says you are charged the prevailing cabin rate! The first message I have is from May.
Seems they keep changing there minds on the policy, as mentioned before, I can only think they had maybe a chain, someone wanted a CAT 8 at the current rates and by agreeing to my move this freed up space.
Checked with DU before, and on the quotes and that was the upgrade?
Andrew DEREK UK
01-08-2005, 08:22 AM
Be careful with what you do with Andrew's info. Reminded me of my Air Force days when two guys I knew went on a temporary duty together. When they got back they submitted their travel documents for travel pay. One guy got $100 more than the other for the exact same travel. So the guy who got shorted the $100 complained. Finance checked it. They took $100 back from the other guy!
please, cannot afford an increase!

We have the transfers booked too, and the CM for DCL told me they were from LAX to the port only! It had better be that way or we're going to have a serious transportation problem on August 20!!
Morning All!
I guess it's the old "Talk to one CM get one answer, talk to another, get another answer!" I guess when the time gets closer we will definately find out!
Wish they would have some info to give us!

Thanks Grumbo- I took Bob's advice and visitied Dave's site and found their link and coupon. Is it pretty easy to get there from the area around the Radisson?? I can't find a decent map and I only know the area around the Radisson. How did you like Ron Jon's?? Any advice to make the stay better?? Room selection?? We're renting from Budget. How'd you get to the pier in the morning. I think I'll drop the car off first thing and take the shuttle with the family to the pier. Does that sound like a good idea?? Was the water park area as good as described? How were the rooms??...Mark
Hey Mark,
We did RonJon/Grill for our last cruise (May,2004) too. I agree with Grumbo, if you are looking for dinner with the kids at Grills, get there early.
We had a studio at RonJon. We'd (4 of us) go bigger next time. RonJon was great. DD's loved the lazy river (watch out for sunburned shoulders!) and mini golf. If I remember right, the pools close early, so if you are getting in later in the day you may not be able to use the pools.
For transport to the Port, we rented from Hertz. Returned the car early and took the Hertz shuttle to the Port. Some people suggest to drop off the family and then the car, but if you get there early enough (we were at Hertz by 9am!) I think it's easier to stay together.
Ok, now a caution about Budget: Since we were at the Port so early, we waited in the parking lot by all the shuttle stops for a while before we could enter the terminal. The one line that was always the longest was Budget. This shouldn't be any problem getting to the port, but when you return you might want to be prepared...unless they've addressed this since May.

Estelle,
We are leaving out of Philly I think. I have no details so far. Last week ,DU told me that they won't have any info for quite a while yet. As long as we're not flying US Airways, I don't care how I get to LAX. I'm just trying to figure out what time of the wee hours they'll be flying us out in order to get us to the ship on time(we are not doing a pre-holiday at DL before the cruise). As for documents.....we're getting passports for everyone. I married a Mexican who I tease won't be able to get back into the country without a passport. That might not be such a bad problem but he's not taking my 3 little Mexitalian beauties with him!!!
Carla
On the question of passports. My gut feeling has been all along that we will be required to have them. But wether we do or not they really are a good thing to have.
Carla, are you flying out of LVIA or Philly.? We are leaving on the 18th from ABE(still trying to remember that it's LVIA), on Delta.
All of you who do a little or more imbibing ever hear of a Flaming Dr. Pepper? Our youngest dd came home today and mentioned having one on New Years Eve. If you are interested I will get her to give me the recipe. She says it really tasted like Dr. Pepper.
We are due for freezing rain here tonight. I'm beginning to think we will never have snow just ice. Yuck.

Hi Janet  - which model did you buy? We have a Sony P92 5.2 MP that we bought last Christmas and now a Sony DSP-V3 7 MP that we bought on Boxing Day. I didn't realize you were considering a Sony - wasn't the last camera you looked at an Olympus???
I wish I'd known; our 5 MP is looking for a new home - for around $200. The "trade-in" value at Henry's was something like $50, although the camera is in absolutely perfect condition, whereas THEY are selling the same camera "refurbished" for $379! :earseek: For $50, we'll just keep it and let Lara have a digital camera for the trip!
Martin, of course, has researched every Sony model to the n-th degree. (What can I say ... he's an engineer :D ) so if you PM me the model you bought, I can get him to provide a quick run-down of the pros/cons for you. I know there's one 5 MP that he would run away from but others are pretty good.
"Talk" soon!

I picked up a Sony Cypbershot. It's a 5.2 mega with a Lithium battery. Any comments? We're looking into upgrading our very basic digital camera too. I've been over on dpreview comparing and evaluating different models and my head is spinning. There doesn't seem to be a perfect camera...I want something that is relatively small, but with more control than a point 'n shoot, with a fast picture recycle time, able to take good pictures in low light, able to take pictures of fireworks, and a really good zoom. I started out looking at the Casio Exilim P600, but the recycle time is 14 seconds on the camera I tested, ick. Then checked out the Canon G6 and am comparing it to the Nikon Coolpix 8700. Leaning towards the Canon.
Just booked airfare to WDW for next November for our stay at SSR! Had to add the counter too! :earboy2:

I've been over on dpreview comparing and evaluating different models and my head is spinning. There doesn't seem to be a perfect camera...
That's a really great site for doing research, Val. Pretty straight forward and easy to read. I think you really hit the nail on the head though, there isn't any such thing as the perfect camera. Thay all have pros and cons.

Congrats on the new camera Janet! Just in time to enter the Winter Season Photo Contest, huh? ;)
What's the camera model?
It's the DSCP100 Cybershot
According to Steve's site it's OK but who knows?
I'll only have six days to figure it out for the photo contest!
Too bad Arlene ~ but then Lara will need a camer too!

Oh and I finally bit the bullet today and purchased that Digital Camera! After this last trip and my "Oh there is nothing wrong with your camera" didn't work once again! I picked up a Sony Cypbershot. It's a 5.2 mega with a Lithium battery. Any comments?

Congrats on your new camera. I got a Sony Cybershot too. It's the DSC-F828 that's 8 MP. I like it since it takes memory sticks and memory cards so I have a 1GB of each loaded so I won't have a chance to miss any pics because I ran out of space.
You might want to get a spare battery since the battery life can really get drained depending on how much you use the screen instead of the viewfinder or how much you zoom. Don't forget to check Amazon.com for batteries, cases and extra memory or the external charger.

One more thing, I'm off to Best Buy so buy a digital camcorder with the money we got from my Sister and Brother-in-law for Christmas. It's on sale and I have to go to Reading to get it since that's the only store in the area that has it! :earseek: They're holding one for me for I have to get there before they close at 7pm.

We had no electricity since 5 am this morning and just got it back an hour ago!! We had to go out to lunch after church...and i didn't like the fact that i could not blow dry my hair this morning!! YiKES!!
Just checking in and you all talking about cameras. We do have a dig. camera but i don't know what kind or what..i am clueless!! We do however, would like to get a new dig. camcorder with a dvd...Does anyone have that??
I also got a nice e mail from Andy and Hazel (vernadahman) who just got back from 4 night Magic. He and Hazel were the lucky ones to be able to pushed the ship horn when they were departing from CC!! GOOD FOR YOU Andy and Hazel!! What an awesome memory!!! :cheer2:

Just before Christmas I got a HP945. It's 5MP and has 8x optical zoom, 7x digital zoom. I wanted the most zoom I could get for an affordable price. I'm very happy with the pictures I get. I'm thinking of getting either a wide angle lens for it or some filters or both.

Thanks for the info, Renee! Our new DSP-V3 (7 MP Sony) has the two card slots as well, so we went and bought Compact Flash cards for it this weekend. (Only 512 MB though - we'd rather switch cards more often than lose a ton of shots if a larger card goes bad.) It's really cool to have the extra storage available to never miss a shot, though - just replace whichever media is full! We have Memory Stick Pro's from our P92 so we were happy to stay with Sony. An extra battery sounds like a good idea. We'd better get one before August.
Has anyone used the teleconverter lenses??? We're thinking about getting the Sony 1.7x Telephoto lens adapter to improve our range. Any thoughts???

Still deciding on which digital camcorder to get -- stuck between a Sony and a Panasonic model. I like from the stats & the feel -- the GS-PV200 with a 3 CCD lens (for great color) on the con -- not sure how well it will do fireworks -vs. the sony models.
One thing I did read about the digital camcorders that write to DVD's was wait a couple of years - they are still getting the bugs out (I think it was on C-Net's reviews).
Anybody else looking at models too ?
Just a side note - about camcorders & humidity - on my Magic trip in Sept. '03 (Western) my current camcorder did not like the humidity outside - and if I stored it in the cabin (A/C) - it would take several minutes of warming up before the dew sensor would go off and it would tape. Solved the problem by storing the camcorder on the verandah. I'm thinking of doing the same - esp. when going thru the canal.

Boy oh boy, I couldn't get on here this weekend for crap.
I booked my air, I had been waiting for SWA, but yesterday I went to Delta, looked at the SkyMiles pages, and low and behold, they had TONS of flights. So I booked both ways for miles. One less expense I need to worry about. Now it's just paying for the cruise.

I had heard the same thing about the camcorders that write to DVDs so I decided to hold off on getting one of them too. I got a Canon ZR90 that is supposed to be pretty good. We'll see this weekend at my niece's birthday party.
Thanks for the tip about the humidity and the cameras. Makes sense though since my glasses always fog up when I go from our room to our verandah.

Ok, late to the posts, but what web site for info on Digital cameras? I have the basic onr that came free with my printer. I am confussed as the difference between optical and digital zoom.
Grumbo
01-10-2005, 11:22 AM
Optical zoom is how the camera magnifies the picture or what is seen. Like using a magnifying glass. This is much sharper/clearer. It is mechanical as opposed to electronic.
Digital zoom takes the image and enlarges it by making the pixels/information larger. This causes graininess and distortion if you go really large on it. Some cameras (lower end) have NO optical and only digital zoom. Stay away from that.
I have found that anytime I use my digital zoom my photos suffer in quality.
My explanation is a bit confusing but hopefully it makes a bit of sense :)
Cheers,
Grumbo

About passports: I don't think they will be required, but it is always good to have them. Say if the "men" on this cruise went out drinking in Mexico and got a little wild. Would you rather have a birth certificate to avoid those Mexican jails or a Passport?
Everytime I look at flights, they are either more expensive or the same price they have been for months. We need some cheap carriers here in Cleveland. We need to drive down to Akron to get the best price. I still need to find flights for our June trip.
I know nothing about digital cameras. I like my point and shoot, although I will need a new one soon. DH dropped it and it acts funny sometimes. Maybe I can get a new one before the cruise.
Has anyone heard anything about the Christmas cruise? Were there any special shows or dinners or anything? Paul, didn't you go on this cruise?

My husband and I already had passports but we got them last weekend for the kids. First both parents must be present (unless you get special forms notarized ahead of time). We went to the PO but they were out of film. So then we had to go to a PhotoMoto or something like that to get the pix. Then back to the PO. Parts of the form must be witnessed by the PO employee. It was a little pesty but luckily we had downloaded all the forms prior. In case anyone is wondering it came to close to $100 PER CHILD to get each passport. I guess they are good to have.

I was all ready to book the flights with Airtran when DH says to me "I heard that Delta was going to lower their rates." I said O.K. I'll wait and check out their rates. Now I see Grumbo's post saying, will they still be in busy in August??????
What should I do?????? Wait for Delta or book with Airtran? Is Airtran going to still be in busy in August, should I worry about them too. I'm paying cash $607.40 with Airtran.
Plus, while we are on the subject of transportation, any suggestion on that from LAX to Holiday Inn? Looking to land at LAX a little after noon. Anyone else coming in close to our time on the 19th staying at the HI maybe we could share a van or something. :crowded: There is 3 of us DH, me and DD who will be 8.

Hi Denine, I just finished reading some lovely detailed trip reports from the 10-day Christmas Cruise and actually made a few notes  while I was doing it (just in case I found any great ideas we could “borrow”).
Their cruise had two formal and a semi-formal night, although they had only been expecting one of each. They also had both Pirates Night AND Tropicali… Night. As additional entertainment, they had the group “Rhythm Extreme” onboard, who gave both an evening performance and an afternoon “workshop” demo on one of their sea days. Christy Carlson Romano (who appears on Disney Channel’s “Even Stevens”, the voice of “Kim Possible” and had a run on Broadway as “Belle”) also gave a Concert one night. I read that she was very good ~ it must have been a real thrill for her many young fans. She also went to the Pyjama Party for the 8-12 year old girls in the Lab to answer questions for them AND did a general Q&A/Autograph session later in the cruise.
Aside from the usual DIS-Meets and arranging to go on excursions together, they also organized “Morning Walks” for the Sea-Days. I’m going to post this on our Sisterhood thread, but there may be general interest as well. Walking groups met outside the Walt Disney Theatre at 7:30 am and 8:30 am on the sea days and covered about 2 miles on Deck 4 in just over 30 minutes. It was casual, and different people seemed to be there on different days and times, but what a great way to get some early morning fitness into our days! (Especially on the sea days, where we’ll all be onboard and probably not be missing any meals!)
I hope this helps; hopefully we’ll hear from Paul soon with his “first-hand” impressions!

We're staying in Anaheim for the week before the cruise, flying into LAX. We want to get a car rental that we can pick up at the airport and drop off as close to the cruise terminal at the port as possible.
We've looked at the Alamo and Budget websites, but it's a little bit confusing when you don't know the area.
Anyone know which rental companies would be best for this and which rental company location (code if possible) we would drop off the car at the port?
Many thanks

Lorraine we have rented with Budget. The prices ont he websites are up and down but I found they were closest to the port, they SAID (though it is still disputed) that they have a shuttle to take youb ack to the ship but I'll just cab it if not, and we got the best price on a mini van from them. I think some others are using Alamo.

I'm going to call the Budget office by the port again later (I called once already and they said they WILL drive you to the port as long as it is before noon I think on a Saturday) to confirm the shuttle.

Just wanted to jump in here... I usually just lurk and have had a lot of fun getting to know everybody through their posts. And even though I don't post much I would really like to meet everybody once on board the ship.
So, Mark, could you please add my family to the list for the meet? I am going to say 4 people for now. Because this is our first cruise, and my boys will only be 7 and 4 I am unsure if they will want to stay in the kid's clubs on the very first day of the cruise. Then again, I could be surprised!
Tracy, I would also love to add our names to the wine tasting. And for this I will make sure those kids stay in the club!
Since we live in Southern California we only need airfare home and I got a great deal on American Airlines. $112.60 from MCO to LAX on Saturday. However, I purchased this last month so I am not sure if this rate would still be around.
Many thanks to everyone who is organizing all these activities!

1. Because I am not very good at it.
2. I lose track of this thread easily at least once a week.
and 3. You know the old saying ingrained by Mother, "If you can't say something nice..."
But...this was just down right funny! LOL (Sorry, Mark)

I know exactly what you mean by #3, Darlene!!! It used to be called "The Thumper Theory" when I was growing up in honour of Bambi - "If you don't have nothing nice to say, don't say nothing at all"
The fools here are causing me to set it aside sometimes, though! :earseek:

The idea of the walk in the mornings appeals to me and I think I can say my DH will be interested too. On our cruise in April we were relaxing on deck 4 and noticed that the captain was doing his power walking. He must have gone by at least 10 or 15 times. Really had worked up a sweat. Maybe we could invite him along. :teeth:
Right after my last post the Sun finally came out. 5 days of gray cloudy yucky weather is just not right. Tonight the stars are out and of course that means a nice cold night. Oh well at least it isn't snowing.

Maybe you could have Pam write us a small report.
Hi Denine! The cruise was the best one I've been on! What made it so good was the great group of DISers we sailed with!

I noticed that they did indeed offer these types of activities (yoga, pilates, kick boxing) on previous mornings. For a short time at the beginning of 2004 they started charging a fee for the classes but when we sailed with DCL a few months ago the fees had been removed.
I remember watching a yoga class that they offered on Serenity Bay!

Just wanted to say hi!!
Work has finally caught up with me and am busier than ever at home. I get sleepy much earlier at night now.
I have been lurking here but too tired to post.
I def. want to get that "Get out of my face, Mark" taser..Sign me up!! LOL!! Also, i will get up and walk with you too!! Not that i do it at home, but it will be fun on the deck...
Getting my 1st paycheck this week and going right to AAA to put toward the cruise payments. Bob is also teaching College one night a week starting next week and will use that paycheck toward the cruise..so i am glad it is working out...I was a lil worry how we were going to pay for this exp. cruise. Not a cheap trip, that is for sure...Not using DVC points at all for this vacation.
Uh, is anyone doing the live chat tonight?? Maybe i will see you there..If i can stay awake...

I know we all love to find wild and wonderful excursions but this is in today's local Niagara Falls paper. Something to think about before you book an outside excursion....
Vacation tragedy for Falls family
By JOHN LAW
Tuesday, January 11, 2005 - 02:00
Local News -
NIAGARA FALLS – Andrew Vitaterna was always proud of his son Adam’s adventurous spirit. And a bit afraid.
So he wasn’t surprised last week when Adam, 11, was the first in line to jump off a short waterfall during a family vacation in the Dominican Republic. It was the last stop on a Jeep safari tour attended by several people. Minutes later, everything changed.
Andrew watched helplessly as his son was pulled under the waist-high water. Adam was a strong swimmer. He thought for something to suck him in that quickly, it must have been serious.
It took 10 minutes for the tour guides to find him, then nearly an hour before he was brought to a hospital, but it was already too late. He had drowned.
Today, nearly a week after the incident, Andrew and wife Marilena are looking for answers and warning tourists about the perils of vacationing in Third World countries.
“We worry about whether we go to a three-star resort or a four-star, a five-star,” said Andrew. “Little do we know what’s outside the walls of the resort. You’re playing with fire.
“It’s a Third World country. You have to be aware,” adds Marilena.
The Vitaternas were anxious about the first vacation in a few years with their three children (Adam, 13-year-old Nicolas and nine-year-old Livia). They chose a Caribbean resort in Puerto Plata.
The safari tour last Wednesday gave tourists a chance to see the countryside and concluded with the waterfalls. Tourists held onto a rope as they waded through the water to jump off a series of ledges. It looked safe enough, but Andrew immediately noticed the water was unruly. He discovered later it had recently rained, making the currents more powerful.
Adam couldn’t wait to jump. “He went by me with the biggest smile,” recalls Andrew.
When his son went under, Andrew frantically screamed at the tour guides to help. But they seemed to be arguing among themselves. Finally, another woman in the tour dove under and managed to grab Adam’s hand. That’s when the others pulled him out.
“It felt like hours,” said Andrew.
With Adam on a stretcher, the family made a frantic trip through the brush. Andrew recalls having to step over barbed wires, finding it odd a tour company wouldn’t remove them.
They then had to wait 15 minutes for an ambulance to arrive and bring Adam to a hospital. He was dead upon arrival. The family even had to sign a DOA form.
The tour guide lawyer approached Andrew with condolences. He was then brought to a “shady looking” police station to give a statement.
Days later, Andrew and Marilena got hold of the police report. In Spanish, it said Adam died “while swimming with father.”
Before he returned home, Andrew warned as many people as possible to stay away from the tours.
“We have to let people know that these tours are falsely advertised,” he says. “I ended up walking on the beach and talking to every couple I could find with children.
“I think Adam’s death saved a couple of people that week.”
Adam was an athletic, “competitive” Grade 6 student at Mary Ward school who was always inquisitive, says Marilena.
“He was a deep thinker. He would come up with the most amazing questions out of the blue. He had a deep, deep soul.”
“I just felt this kid’s too good to be true,” adds Andrew. “Of all three kids, I was worried about him the most.”
A visitation will be held today at Patterson Funeral Home from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 10 a.m., at Our Lady of the Scapular Church.
Cheers,
Grumbo

Very sad story and worth keeping in mind. :sad1:
I've done both Disney-organized excursions and excursions that I've arranged on my own. Generally, I've found both to be very safe but I did extensive research when organizing on my own. Listen to what other people have to say about their experiences and use common sense.

Grumbo ~ what a tragic event! Ironic timing, as I was just browsing RCCL & Princess's websites to look at Mexican excursions. It's a country I would be VERY cautious about water-based excursions, even through Disney.
We booked the Chankanaab snorkelling excursion in Cozumel through Disney last March. It's rated as "suitable for children 5 years and up" so we took Lara with us. She's as strong a swimmer as she can be for her age/size (she was 7 and in Aquaquest 10 but only weighs 50 lbs). It was a one hour GUIDED snorkel tour in 15-25 feet of water, and everyone was required to stay with the guide. They had some snorkel vests for adults, but none that would fit her. They finally gave us a ratty, torn, PFD and said she could wear that. I don't know many five year olds who can keep swimming for one hour! Lara did well for 45 minutes, but then was cold and wanted to get out. The guide screamed "NO" at her when she tried to go under the buoy line of the swimming area to return to the beach. I had to "piggy-back" a sobbing child back to where we entered the water.
I considered this excursion to be very unsafe and mis-advertised. I'm doing my research before booking snorkelling excusions in Mexico this year! (BTW - we bought a vest and wetsuit for her this time!) Luckily, we were still able to snorkel at Castaway Cay with her after that experience, so she's not soured on the sport.

We bought each of us Snorkel PFD's. The type they provide on tours. They are clean, very light and small, and they fit us as we bought the size we need. Baby elephant for myself ;). We took them with us on the Eastern last time and for the small amount of space they take up we'll be bringing them with us on the Repo. I found them very expensive in Canada Arlene but I ordered them on the net from Florida and no problems at all.

We are planning a wine tasting on the Ship of Fools! We have approx 65 so far! Each couple will be responsible to bring one bottle of wine to taste. If information on the wine is forwarded to me no later than August 10, I will put together information on the wines we will be tasting including room for tasting notes! I'm working on the location, date and food for the event. Quite a few who have shown interest are planning to bring regional wines, but almost anything goes!

Hi,
I have a few questions hoping someone out there knows the answers. Thanks in advance.
1 - Before the cruise we are staying at the Grand Californian, and I was curiouse is anyone knew if Disneyland has a fireworks cruise similar to the ones at DisneyLand.
2 - Since my family does not fit in a single room we have to spilt up. One of our children is sharing a room (on paper) with a separate family. Do both families have to check in at the same time? Or can we check in to the cruise ship independendantly?
3 - How long does it take to get from DisneyLand to the Port of Los Angeles?
4 - What time is the best time to get to the ship right at 1:00 PM or right before we set sail 4:00 PM?
Once again thanks in advance.

Lou I can't answer your questions about Disneyland but I can tell you about boarding time. It doesn't really matter what time you get to the port but I'd shoot for sometime before 3 just to be safe in case of traffic. I think it is a personal choice. Disney does a very good job with traffic flow so it is really your decision as to when you want to board.

Hey Lou. Not sure if I can help, but as far as the sruise ship, You can check in your family and then meet the others onboard. You'll need to get the KTTW card for you child, it's their pass to get on and off the ship. Is the other family going to be arriving around the same tima as you?? I would get there early. Since you are staying in a concirge level room, they'll allow your group on early (about 1 hour) to set up things before the masses are allowed on...Mark

I don't believe so. The fireworks at DL are by Sleeping Beauty's Castle. The only water around there would be in Frontierland or over in Paradise Pier in DCA.

Hi,
I have a few questions hoping someone out there knows the answers. Thanks in advance.
3 - How long does it take to get from DisneyLand to the Port of Los Angeles?
4 - What time is the best time to get to the ship right at 1:00 PM or right before we set sail 4:00 PM?
Once again thanks in advance.
Lou
Lou,
We have a chartered bus picking up part of our group at HoJos and also stopping at Grand Californian. Bus is scheduled to leave HoJos at 9:30. Charging $10 per person from DL to the port. If you are interested let me know. I know your group is sizeable, but we still have open seats.

One question though...Once Marsha leaves, do we all stop chatting??
Also, important announcements for Fools
Arlene is leader of the Fools Exercise Program..7:30 Walk around ship deck every morning and then breakfast afterwards.
She is also a coordinator of HoJo's party.
Marsha is a coordinator of HI party.

As far as the DL fireworks, keep in mind the the entire DL/DCA resort will fit into the Magic Kingdom parking lot. They are both very compact parks, easy to see everything in 3 days if really crowded. And it takes about 5 minutes to hop from one to the other. The castle is only about 2 or 3 stories tall at the highest point. IASW is in a seperate building, there are several rides in fantasy land that are not in WDW. Star Tours is in DL, as is the Indiana Jones ride. Because most of us east coasters may not get there again, I recommend that you ride ALL the rides. See all the shows (Aladin is outstanding). The fastpass works a little differently there, too.
There is an entrance into DCA from the Grand Californian, which makes staying there even more special.
If any of you fools are going to DL before, you really need to go see the GF. It is as beautiful as the WL, the architecture is Arts and Crafts, and the Imagineers got it 100% correct. They have (or at least they did have in 2002) a really good breakfast buffet in one of the restaurants, they have a great quick meal place near the DCA entrance. IT is worth the trip in, for sure.
Gee, I wish I had the time to go now!

Hi everyone! I'm new here but I'll be on the East bound Repo cruise too. I've tried to read many of the posts but there are so many to catch up with. I hope I can put a face to many of the names once the cruise begins.
With regards to Disneyland, our new DLR president, Matt Quimet, has made many changes to the resort. To begin with, he took away most of the fast passes. However, the regular lines seem to run quicker now. He has also raised prices on almost everything within the parks. Disneyland also does not give away as many special assistance passes as the previous president. So if you need special assistance, bring lots of documentation! Yes, the Grand Californian is incredible. If not staying there, you should walk through it and explore. They do offer tours of the hotel too! Remember, smoking is not allowed anywhere in the hotel and if you are caught smoking you will fined. If I can answer any questions about the DLR please let me now. I visit the DLR about 3 times a month and stay at the hotels whenever I can.
My family and I are so excited about this cruise. This is our first Disney cruise. I hope I get to meet many of you in August! :flower1:

MM2U2, welcome aboard. If you read the first posts, there are links to info needed and available. We have a live chat on Tuesdays and Saturdays, I will PM you the info if you would like to join us. We chat at 9pm eastern time on saturdays so the left coasters can join in.'

Just an FYI - I saw on another post that DCL was showing availability for our cruise online so I called and inquired what it would cost to upgrade to a category 6. It appears they are still honoring the original pricing tiers that we booked into. I paid $4643 for a cat 9 and they quoted me $6823 for a Cat 6 guranteed room or only $2200 more. So anyone looking for an upgrade might want to call. Its not worth it to me for $2200 - thats alot of Konk Coolers and Spa treatments, but to someone it may be.

todays prices:
Category 04 : Deluxe Family Stateroom with Verandah $ 7,374.89
Category 06 : Deluxe Stateroom with Verandah $ 6,324.89
Category 11 : Standard Inside Stateroom $ 4,049.89
Category 12 : Standard Inside Stateroom $ 3,874.89
It looks like there were a lot of cancellations. I will say that the price I paid for Cat 11 was 2475 which is 175% of the 2 person fare. There is no way I could get a Cat 6, even using the tier one pricing, but it's nice to dream.

Marsha are you saying you only paid $2475 for your cabin??? That's amazing! What a great rate. Unbelievable.

A while back I did post I upgraded at the first orginal tier and my upgrade was $2200, but It was felt to be an error so it is interesting to have the exact same upgrade prices now being quoted.
Cat 4 price looks like a basic $11,443.56

Yep, 2475 for me to go solo. Had I booked on the east to west, it would have been 3121.18 for single. It is Cat 11, remember. A small room, no split bath, no window. But it's mine, ALL mine. I booked it the first day they announced the rates. The P/P rate was 1380 plus taxes that day. To go from 1441.89 (inc tax) to 4049.81 is a HUGE increase. See, it pays to book early.
I called Castaway Club a bit ago, the rep said that if I wanted to upgrade, it would be at the same rate, then she said the same as today. I think this is another "One Cast Member" said this and another one said that. I guess you just need to keep asking till you get the answer you want.
I will be enjoying Jazzmanz verandah, he said I could!

Kathy - I booked directly with Disney. If you booked with DU - they can probably get you the price difference between your Cat 10 and a Category 6. Its probably a more than the 2200 since I would be going from a 9 to a 6 and you would be a 10 to a 6.
DCL rep stressed this was a GTD stateroom and no guarantee that you wouldnt get one of the solid verandah's.

Hi Darlene,
I think the timeframe for the "meet" at the HOJO's will be Friday evening. There may be another "in-park" meet either that day or Thursday. From looking at Disneyland's hours last August, I think the park may stay open until Midnight! :earseek:

There seems to be a lot more availability on the May repo, than on ours. The web site showed availability in cat 8 through cat 12 on the May cruise. When I checked, the only price I got back, on our cruise, was for a cat 11..... $6454 for 2 adults and an 11 year old. I doubt if the pricing will ever drop from the top tier. I sure am glad we booked an hour after the reservations opened up.

From a web site about Curacao:
US and Canadian citizens need either a valid passport, or proof of citizenship in the form of an original birth certificate accompanied by photo ID, and an onward or return ticket. Most other nationals need only a passport
For Mexico: As a Canadian you DO NOT need a passport to enter Mexico. You need a birth certificate and a piece of photo I.D. Kids just need a birth certificate. Same thing for US visitors.
As far as the Canal, unless the ship is stopping and allowing passengers to disembark (which it isn't), you don't need a passport there either. You do need the same raised seal BC and ID.
Now all you people that I just save a bundle of money, you all owe me a drink! I'll take it from the drink machine on Deck nine.................
Even though getting passports can be expensive, they offer 100% proof of citizenship. I think it is wise to have one. I don't like to travel with my BC, it is solid proof of my birth, but if I loose it, anyone could take it and use it as ID to get a forged DL or Passport. If I lose my passport, it has my picture sealed into it, it would be harder for someone to turn themselves into looking like me.

However when I go to the Canada Immigration Page it states....
For Canadians travelling to the United States:
Even though a passport is not required at this time for entry to the United States, it is essential if you decide to go on a cruise or to continue your travel to another country.
I agree with your interpretation Marsha, just so many conflicting bits of information out there.
Our family all have passports (and I'm not a Canadian Citizen anyway) so is a moot point for us, but I'd think Disney would be able to tell us now.

Good news and bad news...

As I am apparently helping to coordinate the get-together at HOJO’s, I should ask the same question as Susan/Marsha for the HI – who’s interested in attending a pre-cruise meet at the HoJo hotel on Friday night, August 19?
Also, how should we handle drinks/snacks? ANY input gratefully accepted!
Arlene
We are! There would be two of us! Thanks for your efforts (and all other organizers!)
We are going to need a DIS navigator for this trip!

Okay, I don't keep up. Do I need to send a check for transportation from the port to MCO ? And excursions have been announced ? We can't do the lunch at DL, we'll either be driving or at the Tutankhamon exhibit. Am I the only person stressed about this cruise ? On one hand it seems very far away, I keep thinking of cancelling because I want a vacation NOW !!! On the other hand it seems close...excursions to be decided !!! I think I'm just cross...we've had horrible rain, fog, and grey skies for the past three weeks, I want to be some place warm and away from my computer and cell phone. I also want to take my daily walk. I want to be on the Magic now...I want to sit on my verandah, I want to wear a swimsuit, coverup, and flip flops, I want to eat peel and eat shrimp, I want to sample the wine from the premium wine package, I want to sit in the Rain Forest...I'll read the book about building the canal, I guess that will have to do it until 8/20/05.

Arlene, we would be up for lunch and the meet at HoJo. We DH and I are staying there on the 18th and 19th. Well actually arriving on the 18th. DL is Friday. Since everyone keeps saying DL is much smaller than the MK, I think we will probably be available for both meets.
And here we go again with the Canadian tire money. Ed if I can scrounge up some of it can I pay for the bus from HOJO to the port with it?
Wide awake, you sound like you are from Pa. Our weather has been just like that for the past three weeks. I figure when the Sun finally comes out we will all have aching eyes. The brightness will be stunning. Tonight we actually added fog to the mix. I also would like to be in a nice warm (notice I said warm, not hot) Sunny place. Ah well only 7 monthes or so.

Hi Darlene,
I think the timeframe for the "meet" at the HOJO's will be Friday evening. There may be another "in-park" meet either that day or Thursday. From looking at Disneyland's hours last August, I think the park may stay open until Midnight! :earseek:
I'll be there from Tuesday afternoon on, with 3 day hoppers for the park, so I can be pretty flexible about meeting with people.
Arlene
I will keep an eye out on this thread for meet times. I really would like to get together with everyone. A midnight closing for DL would be great since we only have 1 1/2 days and I want to do both DL and DCA. Wish we had more time.

Only have gotten a handful of PMs or emails from folks staying at HI and wanting to participate in a DIS meet ... thought I'd pop in with another post/reminder :teeth:
We are staying @ HI before the cruise. However, we do not arrive until midnight. I am sure most folks will be sleeping by then. See everyone at breakfast! pirate:

Hi all,
Hope this finds everyone from the Ship of Fools doing great!
I’ve been lurking a little, but we’ve had a really busy week. A teacher at my school is in a coma from a heart attack with no higher-level brain functioning…he is only 52 and was fit and healthy. I feel so sad for his family. It reminded me that this is yet another reason for all of us to enjoy each and every minute, including our cruise together. You never know what tomorrow may bring.
At the beginning of the week, I walked back and forth in pouring rain here in the usual sunny CA to get my students to and from their classrooms. Our playground between the classes was flooded! You should see all the pot-holes in our roads…they’d better be fixed before your arrive in August!
This week, we’ve been going to all the presentations for high school and programs in our district for our ds. It is a new adventure for us.
Most importantly, our dd turns 10 next week, and we are leaving for San Diego on Friday to take her to Sea World for the weekend! We are taking her best friend along too. She requested this versus a party. My baby will soon be in the double digits!!!
Of course, I am getting ready for her actual bday too. We will bring pizza and drinks for her class on her birthday. She is also getting her ears pierced on Monday. Guess we’re really celebrating the big 10. Whew!
Thanks to my Sisters for reading this, and you LooneyHOODs just don’t say anything thank you very much!!! I needed to get my “words” out for the day, LOL!
So, you all take good care, and I’ll see ya’ next week sometime! Be good or at least be good at it, lol!!! (I’m thinking of our D & N drinking parties…Ha! Ha! Ha!)

No plan have yet been finalized, so no money needs to be sent yet. Here's a copy of my last e-mail from Mears Transportation on 1/10/05. I will finalize all the details when I return next Sat.
Hello Mark,
I will be glad to go ahead and book this service for you. I will need your address and phone number, and a fax number (if you have it) to go ahead and book the services. Do you only need the transportation for September 3rd or will you also need transportation to the Port?
Please feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have. Once I get your contact information from you, I will confirm your services.
Thank you,
Melissa Ennis

Thanks Barbara- We hope this cruise is as much an enjoyment as our last one, but not as fun as our next one!!
Sorry to hear about the teacher in your school. I hope for the best. I know what you mean about treasuring every moment. It's one of the ways I justify taking my kids out of school for vacation.

Inspired by Mom2Belle&PeterPan-
"Paradox of Our Time"
The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things. We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice.
We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less.
We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships.
These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom.
Remember, spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.
Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.
Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.
Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again. Give time to love, give time to speak, and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
