PIN TRADING....
Don't forget, if you are a Castaway Club member, you will also get those pins as a returning cruiser. Since we've taken three cruises, and the pins are always the same, we traded ours last time with CMs and got some great pins!
DAN -- could you up our order to an even dozen! I promise, this is my last addition. I have a lot of pin collector friends!

big cheeser, in an effort to make it easier on you the consumer to pay for goods and services offered by JGE they are currently excepting payment in Euro's at an 'at par' value, or simply put 1 euro = 1 dollar. No wasted time standing in line at the bank to convert your silly euros into US currency. See it's the small things like that, that helps differentiate JGE from the rest...Mark
Laugh all you want - but I have two things to say to y'all - first, we're not part of Europe - and second, the sterling - dollar rate keeps improving in our favour - so guess what, by the time we have to pay all those pesky US dollars for the cruise, in sterling it will have gone down to £1.20.
And don't accuse us furriners of being slow :sad2: and behind the times  - don't forget, you were the original aliens - with your wild front ear, and then your final front ear - and anyway, we're always ahead of you - we see tomorrow before some of you see last night!!!! :teacher:

Chats not free!! The costs is usually dependent on your field of expertise. In your case it'll cost you 2 free pins for each Fool on before you arrive. Come to chat about 9:30, that'll give everyone a chance to get there before you!!...Mark

For privacy reasons, we are not using the cabin #s from Grumbo's list on page one of this thread (didn't want to anger anyone). So if you want your cabin #(s) included, send them to me in a PM and we'll get them listed there. You can list all cabins in your group if you want; it doesn't just have to be "your" cabin.
If you want to look at the graphic, but don't know where to go, PM me and I'll point you there (that url is not allowed to be listed here for some reason).

Up bright & early with the doggies (Husky & Jack Russell). They have been to the park (ran around like nuts), ate breakfast & are now napping!
I sent two PM's - one to get the newsletter & the other to see the cabin assignments. It should be interesting to see who is close by or your next-door-neighbor.
Is everyone thinking EAGLES WIN? GOOOOO EAGLES :thewave: We really NEED it. The Patriots don't NEED it but we do!

Agree, but the Dollar is now but in favour a bit since the hike in US rates, but for how long. I paid my cruise off when the pound was high in December. Somtimes its best to be a bit slow, maybe consider all the options before rushing in!

Good morning, Everyone! JoMouse, love the pirates song! Great signature...you did a nice job. Well, we returned home last night from our fundraiser. We were all overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and generosity toward this very nice family. The family even made an appearance with Katelyn (age 6) and her younger sisters. At the end of the night, an unbelievable $43,000 was raised. Yes, $43,000. This was a group of dance moms who got together in a room and decided that we could accomplish something no matter how small. Well, needless to say, this went well beyond our expectations. Sometimes in this world, with all the evil and dark occurences that can occur, you find a light. People and businesses and celebrities came out of the woodwork to donate, help, anything. It was just stupendous. It certainly reinforces what you've always known: people are good. I am so thankful today.

Lynn, what a great thing to do for your friends.
Jomouse, love the pirate pin in your signature, too.
Gotta make some superbowl food. DH wants 3 bean dip, I have no idea what that is, and he didn't bring home anything that even looked like that from the grocery store yesterday. Guess I better find a few recipes and make something up!

Yes I did. Some pricy stuff there, but it looks pretty good. Gonna see if I can find any locally. (The Sangiovese sounds very good and not too pricy like the Cab). You can't get it shipped to you in OH. I was also going to see local wineries near your home.

Couple of questions......
(1) DH is now working on a design for the May repo folks ... I get the impression they like our design and just want to tweak it a bit (BHTM changes to "Kingdom to Kingdom" and of course Eastbound becomes Westbound and the dates change) ... how do you guys feel about their pin looking a lot like ours? Would you prefer their pin be totally unique?
(2) for you lanyard wearing types, would you like a lanyard MEDALLION (for the end of your lanyard) that looks just like the pin we've designed??? It would be approximately the same size (2 inches across). It would cost slightly more but not gobs & gobs more.
--- do you think a 2" medaillion is big enough? If not what size??
As a point of reference, this Stitch lanyard medalllion is 2.5 inches tall and about 2 inches wide.
http://www.pinpics.com/img/p611/pin30551
I don't think the medallion would come with a clip --- so the clip would either have to already be on the lanyard --- or we'd have to figure something out.

OK, here's my opinion on these.
1 - I think the May cruise should have a pin that does not look like ours. Then maybe we can trade with some of them so we can have one of each if anyone wants that.
2. Since the name tags are supposed to hang from the lanyards, wouldn't that be too much if we added a medallion too? Also, the medallion would block the info on the name tag so people couldn't read them.
This is just my opinion, though.

The lanyard will not come with a clip. I agree with Renee, I would only want the name tag. Also, I think the Westbound should have a totally different pin, otherwise, it's gonna look like WE copied them, as they are first through.

I think the May pin should be totally unique and I think we should skip the medallion. I will already display our pin on my lanyard so to me the medallion would be a duplication. Also, I believe the lanyards we are getting do not have a clip, just a ring. So that would complicate displaying the medallions properly. AND Renee is right that the medallion would block the wonderful lanyard cards she is making so we couldn't see peoples names.
Renee - How are we attaching the cards to the lanyard?

Renee - How are we attaching the cards to the lanyard?
I am buying a hole punch that makes the oblong punch holes. I think someone said we need to buy the clips that hold them on the lanyards. Maybe a place like Staples have them. I am going to use clips that I have from other lanyards so I don't have to buy any.
Correction - I just bought a slot hole punch so I can punch the name tags before mailing them.

Nancy, you should be able to get the clips at Staples, Office Max, Office Depot, etc. There are a couple of places on the web to order them, but you have to order either 100 or 500 from one site. Plus the shipping to me and then out to you.
Perdita&Pongo
02-06-2005, 10:58 AM
I'm remembering that someone suggested a piece of lime green yarn or ribbon to attach the name cards to the lanyards? That's a cute idea if you don't have (or want) a clip.

Dan, sounds great. You'll be a wine lover in no time. Try the Gewürztraminer or the Pinot Grigio, they won some awards regularly for the winery.
Big Cheeser, love your way of thinking! Gotta talk DH into going to France for the wine, but I don't think it'll happen.
Ivanova, I agree, with Marsha and Renee, but would like to add, I think it would be nice if the westbound cruise would have a different pin so I don't end up with two alike (hint Peter lol). The medalion looks neat, but I would put it behind the name tag, defeating the purpose of having the medalion. Also, I'd probably want the medalion instead of a pin, not in addition to it. I vote to skip the medalion.
One other thought Dan and Susan, where are we at number wise for the pins and where will the next price break be? After we send out a notice to the e-mail group, we may end up with enough more orders to bring the price down, so we may want to include the price now and potential price to see where we end up.

Okay, this is what we might do.
We order pins setting LE size based on how many are preordered (I'm going to make sure there's a few extras when non dissers on the cruise say "hey, I want one" :teeth: )
Since there isn't a lot of interest in medallions I might get 100 of them (minimum required order) so that those who want them can have them - I'll turn the rest into KEYCHAINS and sell those to whomever might want one.
As for the May cruise pin design hubby is working diligently right now (ignoring his chore to start making chili for the super bowl party :sad2: ) and I think it's safe to say their pin will be TOTALLY different (and yet just as cool lookin' ) y'all might wanna trade for it ;) (hint, hint)

Personally I would like the lanyard medallian. I wouldn't neccessarily use it on the cruise but would love it for my main pin lanyard. As to the lanyard clips, I realized that a place like Michaels or any craft store would have them. Especially one that sells the plastic laces they used to make lanyards at summer camp. Maybe they don't do that anymore. But Girl Scouts probably still make that sort of thing.
DD is making her traditional hot onion dip for the game. This is the one meal that the family eats in front of the tv. So after the dip is ready DD and I will be straightening and cleaning up the family room. Other DD bought the family an ice cream cake shaped like a foot ball. She wanted to get paper plates in the nice Eagles green. Unfortunately they wanted $6.00 for 8. Felt that was way too much for plain green plates.

Coming back depart 09/03/05 1pm into CMH at 3:15pm
ARe you on any of those flights?

We are flying out to LA on the 17th, but we would be flying home on the 3rd and would be on the 1 PM flight.
The price is unbeatable compared to CLE or CAK. Glad I thought to look. We would drive down the night before and stay at a motel then fly out the next morning. It would be worth the 2 hour drive. We need short flight times with a little one.

I know I am a day late and a dollar short---but I have to agree with Kmiles (BTW, me gustan los labios) about the Magic Kingdom/Disneyland controversy. I grew up in Ca. and went to Disneyland all the time. That being said--when I moved to FL--it took the longest time to NOT call MK--Disneyworld. My dad kept saying--DW is the whole area--Magic Kingdom is the park that reminds you of Disneyland. Basically---I never heard of "MK" till moving to FL. So Disneyland (in Ca) it will always be to me.....while here I finally got the whole MK/WDW thing down. Only took 14 years. (The princesses castles are in Disneyland--Ca/ and MK--FL). Like Charles Barkley would say--I may be wrong....but I doubt it!

The Hilton Garden Inn is our favorite-however we stayed at the Comfort Suites last time cause it was cheaper with 4 of us in a suite. The Concourse is the closest to the airport but the rooms are very dark.

Sorry, I have to beg to differ!
Disneyland has never officially been called "The Magic Kingdom." Since it opened it's name has been Disneyland. There's only one Magic Kingdom and it isn't anywhere near CA. ;)
Of course that isn't to say that Disneyland isn't magical! :teeth:
I googled Disneyland and Kingdom--got this from the first entry, 2nd paragraph
"His first creation utilised his unique imagination creating a series of areas which included rides, Shows and attractions based around a given theme. At a cost of over one million dollars and taking one year to construct "Disneyland's" Magic Kingdom opened its gates in 1955 in Anaheim, California and fast became the most popular tourist attraction in America."
:cheer2:
QUOTE=Az Pirates]"Bit by bit, Disneyland got ready for Opening Day. The staff worked around the clock to get ready. The Mark Twain was being moved, deck by deck, down the Santa Ana freeway to get to Disneyland on time. Finally, everything seemed to come together. The "magical little park" was really a $17,000,000 "Magic Kingdom." Walt's dream had come true and Disneyland was ready to open."
Opening day, was a day to remember. Six thousand invitations to the Grand Opening had been mailed. By mid-afternoon over 28,000 ticket holders were storming the Magic Kingdom. Most of the tickets were counterfeit.
Walt Disney was 53 when he dedicated Disneyland Park. It was a memorable ceremony. There in Town Square, Walt could look around and see the fulfillment of his hopes, dreams, and ambitions in the form of a spectacular entertainment kingdom."
Found the above at Justdisney.com
www.justdisney.com/disnetland/history.html
"At a cost of over one million dollars and taking one year to construct "Disneyland's" Magic Kingdom opened its gates in 1955 in Anaheim, California and fast became the most popular tourist attraction in America."
This one was at the Disneyland Paris guidebook of all places.
www.dlp-guidebook.de/lands.htm[/QUOTE]
"For fun I went to my bookcase and pulled out my collector book published in 1979 "Disneyland The First Quarter Century" Right on the first page it starts out:
"What is Disneyland? For a quarter of a century, millions of people from every nation have visited Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom to find out for themselves. But Disneyland offers no definitive answer, because no two people leave the Magic Kingdom with exactly the same memories, experiences or impressions."
Almost forgot I had this book, very interesting with a lot of photos of the orange groves that once lived where now is the Magic Kingdom. Some of the pictures are a hoot, as I remember going on the air cushioned flying saucers, which are no longer "

I grew up in California, and would like to remind you dissenting east coasters that DL was the model for MK in Florida, from the layout of the park to the attractions they chose to reproduce. The castle is the main focus for both parks, and the symbol for both, therefore, "Kingdom to Kingdom" is completely appropriate--it works for me! :earboy2:
I also found myself using WDW and MK interchangeably on my first visit, but I was over that by the second time around!
Love both pins!

Well, I wouldn't suggest that you change the pin either way. I still don't think that Disneyland was ever referred to officially as the Magic Kingdom. Even the original plaque in Disneyland says "Disneyland."
It was never referred to as "The Magic Kingdom." It was Disneyland.

OT- Ryleigh has a sister!
Hi all!
Just wanted to let you know that the arrival of our newest family member happened on Feb. 1st
Madigan Mikayla Theresa Latin-Fenech arrived like a rocket at 4:13pm after 3 hours of labour at St. Mike's Hospital in Toronto. They say she weighed 7lbs but I have questioned that since I laid eyes on her... she is very tiny! But she was 21 inches in length and a very content baby!
Ryleigh was very unsure of her at first especially when she cried. She was very freaked out by the little person in the car seat next to her, but seems fasinated now!
We are tired but all settling into a routine nicely. Hopefully looking forward to our 1st Disney trip with baby in Nov. 2005 or sometime in 2006! Still Travelling with a disabled child is challenging but now we have to add an infant too???? Yep! Can't wait! Bring on the magic!!!! Wish we were still able to do the Repo cruise with y'all! We will actually be returning from our England/ Ireland trip the day you sent out... so you'll be in our thoughts!!!
Thanks for all the support and encouragement you sent us when things looked rough! Much appreciated!

I know many people have talked about Acapulco and the thread on Cruise Critic is great (It was posted here by someone earlier but thought I'd put it up again in case you missed it.)
http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=103695&page=1&pp=25
We are really looking at the Shotover Jet Boat excursion. It looks like alot of fun. It can be booked on your own as well.
To get time frames, It takes you about 40 minutes to get to Shotover, and 40 minutes back, you can ask if they can pick you up at the pier or take you from their office and drop you off back in to town. Any time is good to get wet, although I should warn you that the lagoon smells like sewer water, according to the driver it's due to a chemical reaction from salt water of the ocean, the fresh water from the lagoon and the mangroves that give it this particular smell; just don't have breakfast, it worked well for me. At the end they will take many pic's where you can buy them all for $15 USD on a CD
There are also interesting warnings on the areas to walk in in Acapulco.
In referring to the market and walking to the divers this was the comments.
Both, daylight crime and getting lost; these places are located in rough neigborhoods with many narrow alleys that lead to dead end streets after walking over a little less than a mile (I went to one a year ago and was surprised of who it feels like a termite nest, very narrow streets and alleys where its only for pedestrian traffic); I have heard from passengers that have gotten their purse, camera or gold items snatched while walking to these areas.
Although the municipal police patrol these areas on a regualr basis when ships arrive, I would recommend to pay a few $$ to get there and back and avoid any risks or just get exhausted from the heat, humidity and car fumes. (average temp is 94°F and 70% humidity)
The municipal market is a bit dangerous, for wondering on your own; if you don't know how to move around; but if you go with a guide, it would be much easier, the market is divided in many sections, such as meat, fruits & vegetables, flowers, etc.
Remember to use your common sense; do not where flashy jewlery, carry just what you plan on spending, usually no more than a $100, 1 credit card, an ID, ships pass and the port agent's telephone number (found on the daily activities patter); this would be the best way to get help if you get lost or need emergency assistance.
The guy giving the information on the thread is the Port Operations Manager where the cruise ships dock. Fascinating reading and great info on what to see etc. If you want to use a hotel for their facilities some interesting info..
I would recommend the Mayan Palace.
The Princess hotel charges approximately $25 UDS per person for day use privilages(not sure, I'll check tomorrow) the Mayan Palace is a time share resort and they will pester you into sitting through a "presentation" that will eat up at least 2 hours of your day, and this way you can use the facilities for free: I know for a fact they do not allow day uses outside of ship arranged full day thing, haven't seen many people go on their own, because it's 30 minutes away and a cab will charge you $25 each way for either resort.
If you want to spend some time at a pool and the sea, try the Hyatt only 15 minutes away and you can use their facilities if you have lunch or drinks.
If you look he goes into the fact that even if you go to the 9:30 pm cliff divers they "may" not have the torches. The 10:30 pm seems to be the only guaranteed torch diving.
Cheers,
Grumbo

Forgive me if these items have already been discussed or planned or whatever, but I'm a little behind on catching up to some of these threads. Two things:
I noticed on the May Repo cruise that they are arranging to have the ship's photographer take a group picture [Hygiene99 = Group photo will arrange for Disney Photographer on a Sea day. Probably in Atrium Area.] Has anything like this been discussed for our group?
Also, I know we are having a group DisMeet on Sunday, but has anyone looked into a group lunch at maybe Parrot Cay or Palo's or even Lumiere's? That would be fun to just take over a restaurant!
Just some thoughts racing through my poor "anxious, ready to pack, want to go NOW" mind. :confused3

Ohhhhh, DIS meet lunch on a sea day would be great. I vote for waiting to see the Navigators from the western to see what is going on each day and then pick one. I think Parrot Cay would be great, the whole atmosphere there is fun and relaxing.
I believe Mark is checking on a group picture, but I could be wrong.
My in-laws went to Acapulco as a last ditch effort to save their marraige. They went to the resort that has the pink jeeps. It looked like a nice place, but it must not have been too romantic, as they seprated and divorced shortly after the return! But MIL said she didn't like the city and was glad that they stayed on the property the whole time. This was in 1972 or so. Anyway, it is good to have that kind of info.
I do know where Shotover got the name, from the Shotover River in New Zealand. They invented the speedboats for that river, and now the Shotover Jet Boats are popular anywhere there is shallow water and thrill seekers.
Don't know if I will be leaving the ship much!

I don't know about doing a group lunch at Palo, because we had a problem doing it two years ago. We had several people that were getting ressies for a group of about 10 and wound up having the Palo manager make us go into two groups because they said we couldn't take over the entire restaurant.

Once we hit 500 pins usually the next price break is at 1000 according to their website! I think that 500 should be the cut off point for orders! But that is just my 2 cents!
Pin man dan
if the orders warrant it we can order 600, 700, etc. The price per pin would just be the same as the 500 per pin price.

Cathy - thanks so much for your generous offer!!!
I think a group lunch during the second week would be terrific! I agree with both Marsha and Renee on location, though; we're probably already pressing our luck trying to get Tea for 35 :teeth: ladies at Palo. There's no way they'd let us plan a large-scale brunch.
Parrot Cay could be a good location, though! All they need to do is cordon off part of the restaurant for our group on a specific day and we'll sit wherever within the section.
I'm in for whatever is decided!

Okay so far:
So far the count for medallions (for lanyards or keychains) is:
DisneyElf - 2
Invaderzim - 5
Scratch42 - 2
AuntyBrat - 4
Us - 5
Mississauguamom - 4
Ladypoo - 3
Jhemond - 2
Grumbo - 2
That's 29 so far....
And darn Grumbo - I like that idea of super-duper glueing the medallions to the covers of photo albums - I might have to increase our number in order to cover photo albums and keychains

This is a copyright issue as J.G.E. devised this ingenious idea of taking someone else's hard work, putting a bit of glue on tha back, and coming up with something that cost us nothing but are hoping will make us millions!!!!
Jazzman will be posting shortly with the cost of utilizing this medallion, and where to send your cheques.

Please up my pin order again (last time I promise)I need two more in hope there are pin heads on the other thread willing to trade.
Lunch is a great idea but probably not Palo. The most I've ever been able to arrange is brunch for 14 in the extra room and I thought the manager was going to have kittens when I told him 14. Our last cruise we did lunch on the last sea day to try catch up with everyone's adventures.
Maybe the last edition of the news letter could have a DIS navagator with all the times and events listed?

Okay all you cruising experts -- here's a question or two.....
1. Do you know if the Disney Cruise line will actually ship items home for you that you buy onboard (like photo albums, etc.)?
2. Does anyone know if you can actually do laundry upon boarding the ship while it is still in dock? I know I know -- who wants to think about that crap while cruising, but since we will be spending the week before in Las Vegas and L.A., I will need to do laundry at some point or I'll be one of those people running around naked (trust me -- not a pretty site). Since I've been on the cruise so many times and don't feel the need to run for ressies, I could throw in a load or two before we sail. Just a thought. :teeth:

I hope you realize I was being sarcastic?? I don't want any more snow. We'll be rid of ours by tomorrow if this weather keeps up. It's melting like there's no tomorrow.
It doesn't get much better than this. February 7 in New Hampshire and it's 48 degrees at 1 pm. The sun is shining a little. The snow is melting. The birds would be tweeting if they hadn't all been smart and headed south for the winter. You hear the lovely slurp, slurp (instead of the squeak of snow) when you step :cool1: . I OFFICIALLY HAVE SPRING FEVER!!!!!! and it's only February 7 :guilty: Yup. I could get used to this, but I better not because the temps will be dropping come Wednesday. :cold: They're calling for rain/freezing rain tonight :umbrella: .

I believe DCL will ship items home just like WDW will. Of course this is paid for by the guest but it may make things much easier!
As far as laundry, all the guest laundry rooms are located in the stateroom hallways. These are closed to the guests immediatley upon boarding because the Stateroom Host and Hostesses have to prepare them. Not quite sure when they do open, (1:30 or so?) but I would imagine that once they do you could do laundry at that point. Of course, the only laundry you would have to do would be in your carry-on's as the majority of your checked luggage may not be delivered right away.

Could those folks who have requested bus service to MCO after the cruise PM me their departing airline and departure times. The airline info is to see which side of the airport you'll need to be dropped off at and the time is to coordinate the bus leaving the port and to make sure that those with earlier departures leave as early as possible.
Those intending to continue their already long vacation plans might want to take the bus to MCO for a car rental. The rates to pick-up and return to MCO is about 1/2 the cost of rentals from the port and dropping off at MCO.

Possible Bus To MCO after cruise-Update
Are there any more people interested yet?? Our total so far is 80, and there is room for 55 per bus or 110 passengers in total.
If we use Mears Transportation and manage to fill the bus (capacity 55) the final cost will be $7.29 per person. If bus leaves the Port by 10:00am or so, it should put us at Orlando Airport by 11:00am. Cost for bus is 401.25 and tip is included as per my contact. Departing Airline is needed to make sure you are dropped off at correct side of terminal.
Some people have mentioned the bus times seem a little late. We can make our pick up time anytime we want and if we have 2 buses they can have different pick up times.

Well, I did call --
1. They do not ship items home for guests.
2. Yes, you can use the laundry facilities right away.
Also, just as an extra bit of info -- due to our allergies, I asked the DCL rep how often the bedspreads are cleaned -- and he said they are cleaned every time the ship pulls into port before the next sailing -- so basically every week. That did surprise me.
Can you imagine the cleaning they're going to have to do after we've been on there 2 weeks :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I don't talk like that, but I'm from Northern Vermont (and part French-Canadian). My Dad is one of those people that says "Eh" after all of his sentances.
Do you listen to Rock 93.9/101.7? The station with Greg and the Morning buzz? Anyway, the station manager (and an on-air personality) for the station is Steve Smith. He's from Goshen, NH. He does a lot of the commercials for the station. The guy CANNOT say car or carpet (and we have a carpet store - called carpet mill - that has a sale every week). It comes out CEHRPET. I've NEVER heard anyone pronounce it that way before. When DH had them do the commercials for his business recently he explicitly said Steve Smith is NOT to do my commercials. The lady said "yeah, we get that a lot". Here's his bio http://www.wvrrfm.com/stevesmith.html . I love to hear accents. I'm sure if people overheard me, they'd think I was picking on people, but I really just love the way people say things. It's great. Dh's family is from Skowhegan Maine, so you should hear their accents. I love it. My MIL doesn't have it so much because the moved to VT when she was in high school, but when she's with her family for more than a few hours, she starts to talk like them. If I'm in an area for too long (like more than a day), I start to talk in an accent. DH hates that. I think it's funny. I haven't started adding the r's to words yet though, and I can still say CAR, but give me a few years and you'll probably think I grew up here.
