We have been given permission to be gone for 2 weeks. YEA!!!!!!!!!!!. :cheer2: Two weeks on the Magic!! Joining in on all the good times. We will be getting in on the afternoon of the 18th. Is anyone flying from MCO that day? We will be leaving our car in titusville for my brother to take to the port. We have a lot of reading to catch up on. :Pinkbounc

Congrats on getting the time off Patty! Now all you have to do is join us in waiting for August. Of course, time goes pretty fast when you have as much fun as this group does. :)

I'm also flying in on the 18th but have a morning flight from TPA.

Enjoy the cruise Mark. You deserve it after working so hard to provide such a wonderful lifestyle for Sandra and the kids. Two Disney cruises in a year. What a wonderful husband and father you are.
It never ceases to amaze me how great the guys are on here to their families.
Thank God Doris doesn't read here so I can get away this chauvinistic crap ;)

Welcome Ladypoo ! Don't forgot to link with EileenamI for late seating :flower1:

Well - have transportation to LA & Karmel Shuttle picking us up at Long Beach on the 17th. We should be at our hotel (HoJo's) by 11:00 AM - then planning to head over to DL (Not sure if I i will be picking up our 3 day park hoppers prior to getting there).

I figure we will spend one day a DL & one a DCA and the remaining day doing our favorite rides again. If the parks are open til Midnight; are both parks open that late & do they do two evening shows of Fantasmic & Electrical Light Parade ?

The DL website has a sale on hoppers right now, adult pays kids price. I didn't look any closer than that since I won't be dropping in this time, but it looked like a deal!

I forgot to check the park hours or the parades. I love the ELP, it is so fun. I still haven't seen Fantasmic at DL, both times I was there it was not on, guess one of these days I will have to go and watch it!

I have a confession...I sometimes forget stuff!

Anyway, somewhere in my feeble brain I recalled one of my cruises started a "Let's introduce ourselves to each other" string. Low and behold, it's this one! I found em, and enjoyed rereading them. They mean more now that we "know" each other. So I cut and pasted them to Word. Thought I would revive them here!

They get long, so I will do a few today. If I get positive feedback, I'll add a few more every day or so.

Here are the first few. Thanks Kathy for the original idea!

KPGCLARK
"I thought it might be nice for everyone to kind of introduce themself and maybe say what their hobbies or interests are.

I am a stay at home mom. I love to travel, cross stitch, buy and look for antiques, decorate, cook, and spend time with my family. My husband is very involved with what used to be known as Indian Guides and Indian Princesses. His big hobby is anything related to time and watches. He has had several articles published and has been asked to speak on this topic around the world. He works as an exec. in a small pharmaceutical company. Our son is going to be 10 on Thursday and he loves electronics, cars, lights, and loves to take things apart and put things back together. My daughter is 7 1/2 and is very athletic, loves to draw and read, swim, and other typical girlie things.

Let's hear about you and your family!

MOM2BELLE&PETERPAN
Nice idea kpgclark!

I was a stay-at-home mom for 10 years, but now am back to work 3 days a week as a speech-language pathologist at a local public school. Pre-kids I worked with 6th, 7th, & 8th graders in a low income area and I LOVED it! Now, I'm close to home and work mostly with preschool students who have been diagnosed with autism. These little ones have captured my heart! I love reading, weight training to tone, not to build muscle (though have not done this routinely for quite a while), anything Disney, and spending time with my dh and kids. Also love the beach and the mountains.

My dh of almost 22 years is an engineer for the Boeing Company. His baby is the C-17. You should see this baby fly! Dh had a thrill ride on this one time Charleston, SC and it was a memory of a lifetime! He's a loving, participatory dad and husband, and I'm lucky to have him as my husband. He loves reading, swimming, boogie boarding, scuba diving, and now Disney!

Our children are our greatest joys and blessings!!! Ds is age 13 and a goof-ball, but a cool goof-ball, LOL! He likes to get those expensive tennis shoes for Christmas and his bday, go figure. Often, he has to pitch in his own $ to make this purchase. He is a good basketball player, an excellent writer though he would not tell you this or to his friends, LOVES his friends & electronic games, and loves to watch movies.

Dd age 9 is a loving and sociable young girl. She is compassionate and has many friends. She loves dancing, singing, playing hand ball, her friends, Lizzie McGuire, making things (especially tents in our family room with dining room chairs), and she is an animal lover, especially loving dolphins.

Well, that is some stuff about our family!
Take care!
Barbara

EMMASGRAMMY (NOTE I included this one to remind us of Emma, Sophie, and all the family)
I really like this idea of getting to know each other alittle.

My DH and I have been married 27 years (in a row!!!) He works for a wireless phone company (can you hear me now?). We are the proud parents of 3 lovely daughters ages 26, 24, and 22 and grandparents of the smartest and prettiest granddaughter in the whole wide world, Emma. (What?? Me?? Brag!?!? NOOOO!!)

I have owned my own daycare service for the past 20 years. I have had the privilege to have shared in the care of 196 children over the years. I love my job!!! I also have spent the last 8 years working weekends as a banquet server. I love that job too!! I'm kinda a "people person".

We don't have many hobbies ('cause we are always working!!) but we love watching our granddaughter grow up, and we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our second granddaughter any day now!!! We are season ticket holders for our beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. And we are planning another wedding. This time for DD #2 who will be married May 14th, 2005. (The same day the Magic sets sail for CA!!)

Oh and by the way...in case you hadn't figured it out... We are Disney Freaks too!!!!"

Thats it for today. If you want more, let me know!

Anyone know how to tell how full the boat will be Saturday?

We are sailing on the January 15th Saturday Magic 7 day. Anyone know of a way to tell how many people have booked? It seems like it may be not that full with the ease we had in booking our excursions 2 days out.

Well everybody, tell us about yourself!
Why sure, be glad to!

I am a life-long (well, not yet actually) resident of Rhode Island. After a successful stint as a fighter pilot in the US Navy, I gave up a promising career as a jazz trumpet player in favor of Astronomy. Following several highly-significant discoveries, this also became routine, and I settled into my current position as a philosopher and philanthropist. After refusing marriage offers from several movie stars and a couple of European princesses, I settled down with a local beauty pageant winner and raised a family. We have two girls; one is the current artistic director of the Museum of Modern Art, the other is a leading dancer now touring in a production of 'Fosse'.

I actually crossed paths with Grumbo twice - once when he was my kindergarten teacher, and once when I did a brief stint as a parole officer (he was an exemplary parolee).

All absolutely true - just ask Denise...

Great idea kpgclark, everyone should also post their pictures so we can put faces to the names!!...Mark

Actually the Kindergarten teacher part is true. Now remember Jazz IS older than I am, I was his teacher, so you can see that Jazz's intellectual portion of his brain, not to mention his reality portion ;), has some developing to do.

btw please will you guys not tell him that is Tom Cruise's photo. The doctor at the home says it is good for him to fantasize about something like this, as opposed to those dark fantasies that got him committed originally. Thanks.,

OH and I did catch Jazz's stint as a Jazz professional. It was on the Bass fiddle and I have a photo I took http://www.richardanddeborah.com/Hillbilly%20silly%20close%20up%2035.jpg

Just heard back from DU:

Disney reports there is no availability in Category 6 or any categories
higher on your sail date. The Cast Member I spoke with said that some
staterooms had opened earlier in the week with just double occupancy, but
those are now sold out as well.

I am sure this frustrate you, doesn't it Kathy?? :guilty: Cann't figure DCL myself esp when my parents were on the waitlist for the SPH since 1st day and they ended up giving it to someone else!! Go figure!! probablry can get more $$ that way!!

Well, i guess you can either bug em more or lay low for now...I am sure there will be cancellations at the 90 day mark!!

Is DU going to keep trying??

kpgclark
01-13-2005, 03:51 PM
It does bug me and I've also been on the waitlist for a SPH since the beginning. I e-mailed Disney a few weeks ago about them giving the rooms to new reservations. They said they go over the waitlist manually and only once per day. Very frustrating. I doubt DU will check on rooms for me. I wish I could call Disney directly since DU seems to be slow and miss the openings.

Hello Everyone,

We hope this post finds everyone doing well and that your new year got off to a good start. Lynda and I have been doing the best we can and made it through the holidays though it was hard.
I know that some of you were wondering if we were still going on the cruise or not. We have thought long and hard about this, and have done alot of back and forth on our decision. The thing that finally helped decide what to do happened on New Years Day. Lynda and I went shopping at a local mall that has a Disney store in it. We went inside and once in, Lynda found it very hard to be there, and I started to cry. It was then we realized that we couldn't go on the cruise just now. We have cancelled our ressie with Disney and HoJo's.
We know that it will take sometime, but with the grace of God, and support of our friends, all of you, we'll be able to do it another time.
Thank all of you for your support, & prayers through this time, and as always, God bless you all

Hello all, We'll be heading to the airport in about 6 hrs. I'm in charge of waiting until after midnight to print out our boarding passes. Kids are both healthy again, Sandy had a root canal/ temp. crown this morning, and I set up my workload for my employees for the week. Is it just me or is your second cruise a lot less stressful then the first?? I don't have that nagging feeling that I'm forgeting something. I will try to remember about your online meet Sat. night at 9:00pm. That last time was fun, since it was my first chat session I've nothing to compare it to. I'll need to try it a little drunk while onboard!! (I'll skip the naked part). Anyone want anything measured while I'm onboard??(Melinda)

Have a wonderful trip Mark!

We just got back from seeing Cathy Rigby in Peter Pan, and it was wonderful! This was the kids' first professional play and it was fun to see them enjoying it. When Peter implored the audience to believe in fairies, even DD12 was clapping as loudly as possible! (so was I) :D

Believe it or not, they still manufacture and sell those fake cigarettes. I know, I was floored too!

I was at an outlet mall this past weekend. One of those deals where everything is supposed to be a great deal because it didn't sell well in the store but where, in reality, you wouldn't want to buy any of the stuff anyway and the prices are not that "great." At any rate, we went in a store and found the fake cigarettes.

When I was little I remember two kinds. The candy kind (they were white with a dab of red paint on the end and came in a flip-top box) and the gum kind that had real paper wrappers and when you blew through them a puff of white powder came out.

The ones we found were the gum kind. We got some strange looks as we browsed through the rest of the mall puffing away at those fake cigarettes. No one actually told us we couldn't "smoke" in the store but I think a few people were ready to.

Lynda and Mike--so sorry you won't be going but totally understand. You are always in my prayers.
So excited that we'll still going to meet Andy and Hazel!
Have my room booked at Hojo's for the 16th-20th. We get into LAX at about 9:30 am. So we'll be at the hotel early the 16th. So excited to meet everyone and how nice to be able to meet a lot of the FOOLS prior to boarding.
I will hopefully be sending a pic. of Addison, Heather, and me to Three Circles site soon. I took one of the 3 of us on Christmas but Addison wasn't looking at the camera and got all squirmy so we didn't get another one. But Heather is baby-sitting her tomorrow so my DH and I can go to the movies and dinner so I will get a pic. of the 3 of us then.........!!!

Did they have the powdered candy in them so that when you blew out it made it look like real smoke!LOL

Subject: Computer Hard and Software:

Dear Tech Support:

Last year I upgraded from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0. I soon noticed that the new program began unexpected child processing that took up a lot of space and valuable resources. In addition, Wife 1.0 installed itself into all other programs and now monitors all other system>activity. Applications such as Poker Night 10.3, Football 5.0, Hunting and Fishing 7.5, and Racing 3.6 no longer run, crashing the system whenever selected.

I can't seem to keep Wife 1.0 in the background while attempting to run my favorite applications. I'm thinking about going back to Girlfriend 7.0, but the uninstall doesn't work on Wife 1.0. Please help!
Thanks,
A Troubled User. (KEEP READING)
______________________________________

REPLY:
Dear Troubled User:

This is a very common problem that men complain about.
Many people upgrade from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0, thinking that it is just a Utilities and Entertainment program. Wife 1.0 is an OPERATING SYSTEM and is designed by its Creator to run EVERYTHING!!! It is also impossible to delete Wife 1.0 and to return to Girlfriend 7.0. It is impossible to uninstall, or purge the program files from the system once installed.
You cannot go back to Girlfriend 7.0 because Wife 1.0 is designed to not allow this. Look in your Wife 1.0 manual under Warnings-Alimony-Child Support. I recommend that you keep Wife1.0 and work on improving the situation. I suggest installing the background application "Yes Dear" to alleviate software augmentation.
The best course of action is to enter the command C:\APOLOGIZE because ultimately you will have to give the APOLOGIZE command before the system will return to normal anyway.
Wife 1.0 is a great program, but it tends to be very high maintenance. Wife 1.0 comes with several support programs, such as Clean and Sweep 3.0, Cook It 1.5 and Do Bills 4.2. However, be very careful how you use these programs. Improper use will cause the system to launch the program Nag, Nag 9.5. Once this happens, the only way to improve the performance of Wife 1.0 is to purchase additional software. I recommend Flowers 2.1 and Diamonds 5.0! WARNING!!! DO NOT, under any circumstances, install Secretary With Short Skirt 3.3. This application is not supported by Wife 1.0 and will cause irreversible damage to the operating system.

Best of luck,
Tech Support

If you men are having troubles with your Wife 1.0 program you will need to install the anti-virus "Lotsa Cash 10.0" program. This wipes out the Nag, Nag 9.5 program all together. Just remember you can NEVER return to Girlfriend 7.0 or your computer will be FRIED!

Have fun computing!

Live from the Cove Cafe onboard the Magic. What a crappy first day!! Very rough flight in. We get to hotel, finally after getting lost, and Sandy realizes she didn't get all the luggage!! Call to airline and they have our bag and will send it to us in about 5 hours (for 40.00), O.K. it's our(sandy's) fault. We go to eat at Grills and then take the kids to game room. Sandy come in with tears in her eye's, what's wrong now?!?! She forgot ANOTHER piece of luggage at airport at home(it was never tagged) Many, many calls later, no luggage. It only has ALL the shoes, ONLY?!?! Off to WalMart. 80.00 later, we all have new shoes and sandles. Sandy's still blaming me!! I bet that when she goes to church services on Sunday and they talk about Original Sin, you know who will be blamed for that too!! Today was better, what couldn't be better?? We were 2nd in line to board and made all reservation in less then 5 minutes, great times too. Sandys going parasailing on Castaway Cay. Mark, sorry about the luggage. My husband flew 2 times in the last 2 weeks on US Air, Both times he made it, his luggage didn't. Fotunatley, they found it and delivered it the last time. The first time he found it himself, back at the airport where he landed. They has the bag but never called his hotel until the next day when he was checking out. Maybe the shoe case will be in the lost and found at the airport when you return. What a hassle. Now for the repo cruise you can just pack a pair of flip flops and black sneakers. THat covers all footwear needs for the entire cruise.

3 Dudettes???? Even more fun. Don't forget to update the list on page on (Jazzman?)

I thought I might get a quick tip in to WDW in February. I got the notice to vote my proxy and thought I might attend the meeting. It is in Minneapolis, February 11. Not a place to go in the winter. I was telling DH I might want to go, he suggested I go to see my favorite sister instead. So then it occured to me that we (she and I) might go to WDW instead of just me going to her house. But the resorts are very full and the airfare if mot very low. So no trip to WDW, but I did book a flight to Dulles, and will at least get out of NH for 3 days.

Don't forget CHAT is live at 7pm eastern time tonight!!!!!!! PM me if you need the location or any other info. While we don't have a set topic, I think we will be talking excursions.

We are planning a wine tasting on the Ship of Fools! We have approx 65 so far! Each couple will be responsible to bring one bottle of wine to taste. If information on the wine is forwarded to me no later than August 10, I will put together information on the wines we will be tasting including room for tasting notes! I'm working on the location, date and food for the event. Quite a few who have shown interest are planning to bring regional wines, but almost anything goes!

Off to get ready for fire drill, I'll check in later and try for your chat tonight...Mark

Gleaned this from the May Cruise thread:

Interesting tidbit - DH called DCL last week regarding tux rental and the CM he spoke to said that there was going to be a "big surprise" on this cruise - said lots of bigwigs and media would be present for it. It's had me SO curious....another ship maybe? New iteneraries? What could it be? I almost wish she hadn't said anything, but it will give me something else to be excited about now.

My guess? At least one new ship. If not two.

My guess would be that there will be something very special the morning the Magic comes into Los Angeles port, for the first time, a Parade? Etc. Likely to be very enjoyable, but also, a good PR Publicity stunt for Disneyland's 50th. Many VIPs could join here or in Cabo or Acapulco?

My husband and I went on our first real date since Addison was born yesterday--and I bumped into a guy that golfs at the golf course I was Food and Bev. manager at for 3 years. Anyway--after telling him I had moved to Harmony (which is closer to Orlando)--he brought up his son who lives in Orlando. Anyway--his son has been a CM for Disney since he was 18 (parking lot attendant). He is now 25 and after doing some time as a lifeguard at Castaway Cay--he is now helping to build/design a swimming lagoon there where you can swim w/ sting rays, etc . He said it was just in the beginning stages of planning, hiring, etc. but at least we know Disney has probably even more plans for that Island!!
Thought I'd be the first to tell you!!!

Excellent news! I do believe that DCL listens to the passengers suggestions. It may take them a while and it probably depends on how many are suggesting the same thing, but eventually the unseens do get the wheels in motion.

As far as the surprise for the May people, I am sure it's gonna be a big welcome to the west coast hoop la, lots of Disney Big Wigs, etc. We can only hope for a huge send off in LA and then a welcome home in Florida, but that probably won't be happening. The FL part.

kpgclark
01-16-2005, 09:18 AM
Marsha I agree. I don't think we'll have that kind of hoopla on our cruise home. I think if Disney has any big announcements they will be made when the ship reaches California as well.

Sorry I missed the chat last night. Had to go to the mall to buy Lenny a new hands free for his phone since he sat on his and broke it. :earseek: Since we were in the Cingular store, I decided to "just look around" and wound up upgrading my current phone to a better one. Had to extend the contract for another 2 years, but I like them so I don't think that will be a problem. I've already downloaded some Disney ringtones and took a pic of Haley with it.

Hi guys just back from a weekend in Cambridge, Ontario for another hockey tournament for Meagan's team. Made it to the semi finals this time. Good games and the kids had a great time at the pool at the Holiday Inn. Told them if they'd win we'd try to get a hotel that had an inside pool next time :) OK maybe I'm kidding :)

Hey Mark you're lucky. If Doris lost all our shoes it sure as heck wouldn't be WalMart for shoes I can assure you ! :)
I know everyone is hot to trot for visiting DL but I have a friend in Ca that is willing to make the arrangements for a group purchase for Universal Studios, which include the FRONT of the LINE if we get enough folks. Let me know if anyone is interested and I'll get exact prices. She can't get that til Tuesday when their office staff return to work.

Hello Melinda, I was there at 1:20--1:35 back and forth in front of a camera. I hope it was the one you guys looked at. Sandy called Marsha and left her a message, but no call back yet. We are leaving Key West now, so phones will work for a little while longer. It was cold and raining in Key West, but it's vacation, and they have 6 inches of snow coming tonight at home so I won't be complaining.

Hi Everyone,

I had a lot of fun chatting last night. It had a different rhythm to things and really allowed for a more personal and interactive feel. We talked about excursions, occupations, hobbies, families what what Mark was up to on board.

I encourage anyone to join the chat, even if you haven't posted much here. No doubt you will enjoy the playful atmosphere and learn something new which will enhance your cruise-waiting experience. Please do not hesitate to ask how to chat if you are new at it, there were many folks who were chatting online for their first time!

Thanks to everyone who helped make me feel welcome. I look forward to future chats and 'meeting' more of you!

I have trouble believing that anyone would think we really mean all the stuff we put on here. We know we are only kidding... right sisters!?

Melinda you will be pleased to know that the Christmas decorations with the exception of the wreath and the naked tree, are all taken down and put away. :sad2:

Grumbo, I gonna surf some rauchy sites later for some of your photos. Who cares if these computers get a virus from those sites. If you don't hear from me again it means I destroyed their system looking for appropriate material for our thread!!...Mark

Huh? Geez you saying that is NOT you?
I showed it to Jazz and we both agreed it had to be you... :)

Have fun Mark and stay off the damn computer. You paid big bucks to escape... Heck you're gonna be stuck with these nuts for 2 weeks later.

I second everything RobinMarie said! ::yes::

Mark has really become the "black sheep" of our cruise family. It's best not to associate with him.

Did I miss something? What was said that was offensive to the May cruisers?

Hi Kathy; Actually the thread being referred to is the one for the 1/15 Magic cruise that Mark's on now. He's been a prime "ringleader" in posting on the threads of any fools going on a cruise before now (ie, Melinda, Izzinmac). However, he has been a different person (very quiet, laid-back) on the 1/15 thread. A few of the "sisterhood" posted there jokingly "warning" them about Mark and some of the photos he posts here that were absent from their thread.

A few of the 1/15 cruisers freaked out about their thread being "hijacked" and whether they should even talk to any of us if we were on their cruise! :earseek:

As Mark discovered this morning, many of them did NOT have a sense of humour, even though he HAD explained to them before what was going on.

Oh well, no explanations required on his NEXT cruise! :cheer2: We love him just the way he is!

Hey Melinda - You will also be happy that we took down all our Christmas decorations both inside and out and put it all in the basement. The bad thing is that Lenny slipped on one of the steps going to the basement and hurt his ankle. After arguing with me (why do men do that all the time?) about not wanting to go to the ER and then having his ankle be 3 times the size of the other and not being able to feel his toes, he finally gave in and I took him. It turned out to be a bad sprain so he has to wear an air cast for a month and be out of work for a week. Now it's my fault, because I told him to take the decorations down! I can't win.

Reneé

Poor Lenny!!!!! Sprains are even more painful than a break! :earseek: Hopefully the aircast will give him some support and help it heal more quickly. Pixie dust coming his way :wizard:

Incredible how whatever goes wrong is OUR fault, though! It's January 16 ~ taking down the Christmas decorations shouldn't have come as a surprise to anyone this weekend!

BTW Melinda ~ we finished taking down all our indoor decorations Friday night. (The ornaments came off the tree last Sunday, but Martin didn't put the tree away  ) However, THIS IS CANADA! Although they're turned off - the outdoor lights stay up until there's a warm enough weekend day to take them down without freezing one's fingers off! (Usually around March  )

Reneé, send Lenny our best. Tell him next time he'll listen to you

We took all Christmas decorations down two weeks ago except the tree. It has no ornaments on it, just lites (it's a pre-lit) and we were going to take that down this weekend, but it is too cold in the attic with outside temps below zero. We decided to wait some more! A friend said I should decorate it for Valentines Day now . Maybe I'll do that, then add some eggs for Easter in March. April I can decorate it for Bill's birthday, then we have Memorial Day in May. June I can celebrate the arrival of flowers and July has the 4th. I guess I can leave it up forever!!! :Pinkbounc It'll come down very soon, I promise!

Cheers,
Grumbo

We may be interested depending on which day. Is it easy to get from DL to Universal?

THE FEARLESS LEADER..

Melinda, Thank you for this public service. In my never ending quest to be a better husband, I look forward to attending all these sessions. I have been pondering your list and have come up with a few discussion items I would like to see addressed in the classes. In order for the instructors to have time to prepare, here are my discussion items in advance.

Class 1. Why should men ever have to do this? We are minimal users of TP. We need it far fewer times than women and use far less when we do need it. (Related Topic - Class 7 below)

Class 2. Just a comment. I should be exempt from this class. Mary says I act like a child already.

Class 3. Is there a Home Depot in Cabo San Lucas? Recommend that for class location.

Class 4. This class is outdated! Need a man to lead it and discuss the proper technique for kicking spilled ice cubes from the ice maker under the refrigerator. I volunteer to lead this one!

Class 5. Real men are never lost. Of course we won't need Spanish-We'll be able to get back to the ship without directions!

Class 6. Of course, its possible. But why try? Since this is a day at sea and the ship will be rocking, 1 out of 4 should be a passing score. (I did type passing, didn't I?)

Class 7. See Class 1 discussion. Related discussion for this class-Do Tighty Whiteys with skid marks go in the light or dark hamper?

Class 8. Since men invented the automatic dish washer, is it too much to ask the women to load/unload it?

Class 9. Will we have to move to see the Panama Canal, or can we just sit there? Will it be on Tivo, so we can watch replays?

Class 10. If we never put things away in the right place, what good does it do to start looking for them in the right place?

Class 11. Real question here is "Is it genetically impossible for her to parallel park?"

Class 12. Discussion item- "The exploding microwave- How long do you have to wait before you can peel off the dried mess inside?"

Class 13. What are wives for?

Class 14. How do I overcome the fear that if I bring flowers, she will assume I am up to something?

Looking forward to some fruitful discussions!

Grumbo

Kids are gone as usual, DD made 4 friends and we haven't seen her and DS is now a member of the staff at the clubs. He's there from opening to close!! Sandy and I went to 60's night at Rockin' Bar D and Sandy did the fools proud (a wild night of drinking and partying). She's now doing her womenly duties, 'laundry'. I knew there was areason for bringing her. Did I mention that WalMart shoes SUCK!! My feet have so much tape and bandaids on them I need a larger size shoe!! Sandy doesn't complain that much, I think she realizes it's her fault.

I already have the materials prepared. It is part of my program "The Whole House is NOT Your Hamper". I also suggest that we conduct an additional class for the kids, since they do it because the dads do, and then the dads will keep doing it because the kids do...

I will also add, at no additional cost, for both the males and children attending the class, the following add on:

"Excuse me, but those chocolates on the bed are not just for you!!!!"

On our last cruise we thought we didn't get any from our stateroom attendant, until we talked to him and found out the kids had been bogarting them all!!!

By the way, good news, I moved back to my own home this weekend, and have made it through one week of radiation!!! I am feeling so much better mentally that the physical part is becoming easy to deal with. Bad news is that I have to go get my follow up mammograms today.... :faint: :scared:

THE FEARLESS LEADER...

It is my understanding that in order to book at 90 days out, you must be paid in full. If not, you have to wait till 60 days and then you have to pay in full anyway. No one will contact you, you need to do it either throught the DCL website or your TA (I think)

Not that it is too difficult. Melinda's Bob emailed me last week about crashing on our balcony for a few nights during the cruise just to get a little bit of peace and quiet. Poor guy is whipped already and the ship hasn't even set sail yet!!!!

Carla,

You might to keep tuned to this thread or contact your agent at the 90 day mark. (provided you are paid in full) If you are going to book a shore excursion through the Disney Cruise Line you need to be paid in full.

Someone please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

yeah, i think we have a choice to pay either 90 or 60 days in full. Right?? We are grandfathered when we booked this cruise before the policy have changed. I am looking at my ressie forms and it said, to pay in full at June 21st.... now, of course, the danger of paying at 90 days before in full, is that the penalty phase for cancellations kicks in at that time... pay ahead at 90 days and get excursions at first glance or wait til 60 days and take a chance, but at least it is an extra 30 days to cancel w/o penalty. So , what to do, what to do??

I Guess it depends on how badly you want it!

If space is limited on an excursion than go ahead and pay! But if not, why not keep the money just a little bit longer!

Melinda--sign me up for course #10. My husband can never remember where he puts anything. It is really aggravating...........to say the least. As a Dir. of Operations he frequently has to do conference calls where his managers dial a certain phone number and then punch in a designated code to be part of the conference call. As the host --Shawn has his own host passcode (totally different from the others). Four weeks (COUNT 'EM---1,2,3,4!!!!!!) in a row he was running around at the last second looking for his passcode. Each time----I was the one who found it. He never put it in the same place and it was always in some random spot. So I took it upon myself to take a sheet of printer paper and with a sharpie--write the conf. call phone number and passcode and TAPED IT TO HIS DESK!!!!!!!!!
How can you help a restaurant increase it's sales by double digit percents 4 years in a row, run multi-units-------------yet misplace the same thing 4 weeks in a row?????????
I love him anyway

If you have paid your cruise in full - can you book your shore excursions directly with DCL ? :cool1:

Second - I don't think by paying off our cruise earlier than the 60 day mark will change the cancellation policy (we should still be grandfathered into them).

I prob. won't make the chat tomorrow nite -- have to work :guilty:

:wave2:Thanks for all of your responses.I booked my trip through DU. The gal in charge of my travel plans has been unavailable for questions lately(not her fault....she is still recovering from hurricane damage).

I must say that I am VERY uncomfortable handling all this kind of business via email. I prefer a phone call but apparently that 's not how it's done with DU. I just don't want to miss anything.

They've not even been able to tell me what airlines we'll be booked with yet (better not be USAir or I'll freak.....lost the luggage everytime!!).

We are not flying in early for a few days like many of you ....I'd love to know in advance if we'll be stuck on a really early redeye and about what time.
They just don't have these answers yet (could that really be?). Oh well!

Is there anyone else out there flying from Philadelphia to LA on AUG. 20th?
Love to hear from you. :wave2:

We're flying out of Philly but on the 18th. You might want to look into airfare on your own. We only paid a little over $100 for each one way ticket to California and then just a little over $100 each for the return from Florida. I think it is probably less than what Disney will charge but the best part is that you get to choose your own flight. No red eyes for us.

I think DU does a good job, but I cannot stand relying on emails only. Thats why I use AllSeasons. They have a 1-800 that you can call and speak to them directly if you need information. If it is very important you can speak to other agents other than your own.
Also at this time to use the hurricanes of last August, as a reason not to be able to get back to you in January is lame imho. If the agent is having problems I sympathize but they have a big business. Pass it over to another agent that CAN do it for you.
As for the airlines and your ticket. You won't know that til probably a month or so before the cruise from everything I've read. DCL DON'T give you that info plain and simple. Its one of those things that you'll be going the day of, they'll figure it out and thats it.
Don't know if you can cancel that portion now or not but you are way better to book separately imho. You have control over your flights and you'll save alot of money. If you're going to be able to come in the day before especially see if you can just do your own flight.

Cheers,
Grumbo

I also am booked through DU. I don't have any problem doing business only through email, but that's just me. As far as your flight, if you booked air with your cruise, you won't know anything untill DCL releases the documents. And it could be as close as 10 days before you travel. You may easily get a red eye, or a before the sun rises flight. You could have 3 stops, you could have 2 connections. When you use the cruise line for air, you generally pay a lot mopre and often get some bad flights. But the benefit of using the cruise line air is that they will get you to the ship, no matter what. If you leave home and for what ever reason your flight is cancelled or delayed, the cruise line will get you to the ship, either holding at the home port for your arrival (yes, they do that) or getting you to the first port of call at sea. When you travel on sailing day, this can be a big bonus. As far as which carrier, you probably will be on US Air. They are the dominant carrier in Phiily and will negotiate the best deals with the cruise lines. But you won't know untill you get those documents.

I have cruised 12 times so far. I have done air with the cruise line and with out. Both ways have their advantages. For this one, I made my own arrangements, going in the day before. As Grumbo said, if you can cancel that part of the itinerary with out a penalty and save a ton of money, and can get your own flight arrangements made that you are happy with, then do it. Honestly, at that time of year the weather should be ok, save for the odd thunderstorm, but I would still go in the day before, just to be sure you make the ship.

Hey Melinda,
Hopefully I didn't overstep my authority, but I got so excited about the prospect of teaching one of your classes, I decided to contact DCL to set it up. I was worried you were too busy now that you have a part time job, plus all the posting you need to do, so I did it myself. Anyway, I called Debbie, the person helping you with the dining effort. She only handles dining, but connected me with the person in charge of "Special Events". Her name is Juanita Gomez-Esperanza, but she likes to be called JayGee. Anyway, I explained what you were trying to do, and she was very helpful. I was going to just set up my course, but she said since we wanted one a day, we ought to put in our request now so she can deconflict it with other scheduled events. So I gave her your entire class schedule and requirements. She reviewed it all and said she can make it happen. The only hurdle will be coordinating it with the agency that has exclusive rights to sponsorship of all Special Events. According to the contract, we have to guarantee a minimum of 10 participants per course. I didn't think that would be a problem. Also, there is a $50 per person charge for each event, and they have to count each day as an event. In order to hold the slots, she will have to charge the 10 times 50 times 14, or $7000 now. She has your charge card info from your cruise payments and said she will charge that amount unless she hears from you by tomorrow. She says the charge will not show up as Disney, but go to the special events contractor. You will see the charge under JGE. If you need her direct line, drop me a PM. Glad I could help out on this one!

OK Guys I have an "in" in Palo and can get us a group of 20 for a Palo tea. Now we can also request beer and wings to go with the finger sandwiches and for those with a more delicate palate there is beef on weck.
No gloves, tiaras or thongs allowed. We have to show some semblance of cordiality so golf shirts, or tshirts with no foul language on them, and no speedos. Other than that you're good to go!!!! Let me know as this should be a great afternoon!!!

Melinda read Bob's very informative post before replying. Sheesh.
DCL is NOT charging you a dime. The billing will be way of J.G.E., the "Official sub contractor" of the Mouse.
Mighty decent of you Melinda to do this for the group though. Actually I guess I should thank Bob as he'll have to work more overtime now to pay for your magnanimous gesture.
