Sign-ups are open
I would like to join. I'm a newbie so I'm limited to two:
1 Page
Group E - Expedition Everest and
Group H - Giraffes
If you are looking for more people to fill. I would also like to do a 2 page spread in Group N - Asia.
Thanks,
Meg B princess:
DisneyIsTerrific
06-19-2009, 09:06 AM
Thanks for joining Meg. I don't think there's going to be a lot of interest in the AK pages, so I've gone ahead and let you have all 3 of your choices rather than making you stick to just 2 groups.
NemoMom07
06-20-2009, 10:10 PM
Okay i decided to join in :
I would like a place in the following:
Two page layouts
N. Lands #2- Dinoland USA
One Page Layouts:
C. Africa- Kilmanjaro Safari
Thanks DIT
Shawn
Since one of the groups that I choose isn't filling up, I can switch if that makes it easier.
If you'd like to take me out of group E and instead put me into
group C - Pangani Forest Exploration Trail
I'm a newbie, so I don't want to make it harder (be a pain in the behind). But I thought having one group almost filled instead of me being all by my lonesome in Group E makes more sense. Is it too much trouble to switch?
Thanks.:flower3:
DisneyIsTerrific
06-21-2009, 06:47 AM
NemoMom, thanks for playing!
Meg, it's up to you. Which group do you prefer? There's still time that someone could join Group E, but if you wait to switch to Group C, you might not get Pangani. Also, I will join a couple more groups. I've been waiting to see where it will be the most helpful.
Anyway, what I'm saying is, that it's up to you what you want to do. Switching during sign-ups is easy so you just tell me what you want.

06-21-2009, 08:14 AM
Hi MegB,
Usually if groups don't fill and there open spots in other groups the hostess will combine groups to fill them. So if you prefer making your first choice stick with it unless of course like DIT said you really want to be in the other group then go ahead and switch. Hope that makes some sense.
DisneyIsTerrific
06-21-2009, 11:47 AM
Meg, NemoMom is correct. After sign-ups close, I will try to combine groups that aren't filled. So, let me know if you want to stay where you are on move to another group.
Thanks for the help NemoMom!:goodvibes
Hello again, Hope everyone had a nice day with husbands, dads and granddads.
I was hoping that groups would be combined if not full, but wasn't sure what to anticipate since this is one of my first swaps. In that case, please keep me where I am with Expo Everest. Thanks! princess:

Hello - I give in. I'll do Kali River Rapids. :)
I've been trying to stay away, but I just can't!
Also, DIT, I'd be willing to take a few more spots to help out, to prevent you from having to re-jigger things too much. You can PM me with possibilities or just ask here.
I don't know much about Animal Kingdom (thus not signing up for much at the moment), but it's DBF's favorite park, so I have a feeling we'll be doing a lot more there than usual, and since this swap is due after I get back, I can get some inspiration while there in August.

ZTH thanks for signing up for Kali River Rapids and offering to help with other groups. As for which ones, any you want to choose is fine. The ones with only 1 or 2 swappers will be the ones I'll be combining, but you can sign-up for whatever you like.
Thanks!

Today is the last day to sign-up for this swap. I will close it out first thing tomorrow morning and will then combine and remove groups as needed. So, if you have been waiting to sign-up, now is the time!!!!!!
Thanks to all of you that have signed up. I'm looking forward to seeing your work!!!!!

Okay, this is the Progress thread for the AK Pages swap. Please verify your groups and send me a pm with your info (Dis Name, real name, mailing address, phone number, and e-mail address). Please pay attention to how many you are making for each group as some groups have 2, some 3, and some 4.
NemoMom and SusieStone, you both are in the groups of 2. I am in all of them with you. Please let me know now if you want to do these groups of 2 or just drop them. I'm fine with it either way so I'm leaving the decision up to you. I just ask that you decide now.
There are a lot of check-in dates for this swap so that we can be sure everyone is staying on top of things and we can get angels early if necessary. Please mark the check-in dates on your calendar. If you will be out of town on one of the dates, then check-in early.
Thanks to all of you for joining and I hope you'll have fun creating these AK pages!

Hey DIT,
Wanted to go ahead and check in for July 15, because I will be heading out of town for almost a week then and mostly likely will not be on the computer any if at all.
I am actually right now designing my Dinoland USA page on DS. That is all the progress I have made, so far. I am wrapping up my Disney ABC swap and then I will begin on this one.
DisneyIsTerrific
07-11-2009, 07:54 AM
Thanks NemoMom. Have a good trip.
I've been collecting supplies and thinking of what to do, but that's all I've done. I need to finish up the color swap first.

I finished the Discovery Island 2 page layout (yay for only needing to make 3!!! Sooo much faster than 8 or 13), but haven't made any other progress other than ideas for the other two.
NEE is letting me borrow her Animal Kingdom cart for the Cricut, which is very nice of her.

No progress made.
I have my ideas.
I plan to kit up my paper one day in the next week or so.
I will probably work on these te next time DH works 4p-1a. He does it wvery three weeks so it is prime scrap time for me.
Checking in for July 15.
Ideas - Check :flower3:
Paper and Embellishments purchased - Check :cheer2:
Everything put together in kits - Check :laundy:
Work completed - Nope :rotfl2:
I have the Candy Cards due on July 31st, so I need to get those finished and mailed out before I actually get to work on AK pages. And I will be leaving for my next WDW trip Sept 18th, so my pages will be completed and mailed out well before I leave.
See ya....

Everybody has checked in!!! Thank you!:flower3:
I have deleted the August 5 check-in date since I will be out of town then. Our next check-in will be August 19. You are welcome to pop on here and give us an update on your progress or post photos of your work anytime you want, but i won't require another check-in until August 19. If you think you won't be able to complete your groups, please let me know as soon as possible so that I can find an angel. Thanks!

Quick question: I am in the process of cutting my photo mats do you want them double matted. My top mat is .25 inch larger than the photo so once the photo is placed it will look like it is double matted, but only one layer under the top mat. Does that make sense? I have double one of my smaller photo mats, but not sure on the larger mat.
Also I was reading the requirements and my layout does not excatly match up to the options. I went and redesigned last night, but may need to go back to the orginal idea. For my double page layout I have 3 - 4x6 mats and 2 - 3 inch photo mats (one which could be used as a journal block), because my orginal journal area is in the shape of a bone but the area only measures 4.25 width by 1.5 height. So I did not think that was enough room , but will be keeping them in the page by doing a tuck under one of the photo mats.
Now I probably confused you,because I am thinking I confused myself. :rotfl2::confused3

On the photomats, they should be double matted, meaning there are 2 pieces of paper between the photo and the 12x12 background paper. Does that make sense?
Your double page layout will work withe the 5 photo mats (the extra 4x6 will knock of 2 of the smaller ones). The bone will be fine for the journal area. I like the creativity of using the bone and that will make a cute journal box.
Did I answer everything? Your page sounds good, I can't wait to see it!!!!
NemoMom07
07-27-2009, 05:41 PM
Thanks DIT. So I just need two mats under the actual photo. Is that correct. Just want to make sure I get it right. You know how blondes can be...:rotfl:
DisneyIsTerrific
07-27-2009, 05:43 PM
Yes, 2 mats. For a 4x6 photo, one mat would be 4 1/4 x 6 1/4 and the bottom one would be 4 1/2 x 6 1/2.

For my Kilmanjoro Safari ( I will make sure that is spelled correct) on my title do you think it needs to state that wording? Okay I just completed my last group. I will mail these out when I complete the Everyday Theme swap, which will be a little while. Hope you like:
DinoLand Usa:
http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/rr216/NemoMom07/009.jpg
Each page has a hidden "bone" that is the journaling area. This group took me a looonnnggg time to cut out and assemble. There were a lot of "littles" as I call them to make it complete.
Kilimanjaro Safari:
http://i485.photobucket.com/albums/rr216/NemoMom07/008-1.jpg
I really like this one and how it turned out. I was a little unsure with the busy background paper, but once there are pictures on there I think it will look nifity. I choose the paper since it resembled the icon next to Mickey.I went with a title that did not read "Kilmanjaro Safari", since it was already on the journaling spot. It is a simple title, but hopefully it captures what the ride is like... seeing the wildlife in there natural habitats.

And the paper you used for the "Wildlife" page is really cool. Is it from a stack?

If I had a little boy I would absolutely want those pages in his album! My boy is 15! Those are both great pages NM. Love the dino's. Cute!
Nemo Mom. Really great pages.
Question - I'm trying to make some dinos for the Card Candy Swap. And they are just not looking very good. I've got the same Cricut terydactyl (SP) cut out in blue and green and tried to layer the two, and he's just looking really sad.
I was going to try some others too, but wasn't sure if they'd look just as bad and didn't want to waste any more paper. Your little spotted guy looks really cute too.
The Card Candy swap was due last Friday and I just became an Angel for these pieces yesterday so I want to get it done ASAP. I've got to figure out either how to make the little dinos look better, or move on to something else. I've got two girls so I'm used to princess stuff and haven't made the dinos before. Any suggestions? :flower3:

I've done a few things with these layer-less dinos. The problem for me is that they have no dimension.
1. use chalk to add dimension
2. make your own layers - -you can see where the cricut lines don't cut all the way through -- I've pop-dotted heads and arms to give them some dimension. Cut out 2 of each dino - -you could cut one in a different shade to add dimension too. I think it was the triceratops that I ended up cutting out 3 -- one for the base, one for a head to pop dot and one bone colored for the claws and horn.
3. Do you have the cuttlebug, or something that embosses? You could emboss a layer
4. I haven't tried it, but perhaps the cricut markers? I just assembled 12 reindeer from CHristmas cheer and at then I realized I should have used the markers first:mad: I'll have to use the pens that add dimension now - -you could try that too.
5. the pteradactyl -- if you make a layer by cutting off his wings -- the shoulder area I mean, you could try flocking that
6. THe ones with the open spots -- glue a different colored piece of paper behind it
Last -- do you have scal? There is a free font called ding-o-saurs -- you can cut a bunch of dinos with that. If you don't have scal. maybe you could print some dinos? I'm don't know what the requirements of your swap are though.
Hope this helps.

MegB-
Susan had some great ideas (going to have to try the pop dotting and cutting several of the image in different colors... that was a good one:thumbsup2).
For mine I sanding the edges of the big one and the little dino on the ground. I used the coordination paper on these two. Then I added "googly eyes" to all of them. For the big dino I cut out an extra one, cut off the scales and traced it on different color and glued to the dino. For the little brown dino I just put some pattern paper under the spots of him. For the flying dino I cut him out in the blue and brown. Used the brown for his beak and feet. Then I cut off the under part of his wings, traced on pattern paper and glued back to him.

The DCWV stack actual name is Safari Chic. It came out earlier this year with the "Green Stack". It has a nice texture to every page.

Thanks Susan! I have loved yours so far, but sad to say I am not in those groups:sad2:.
In the Kilmanjaro page I thought maybe with the title "wildlife" once everyone gets them they could add some wordage to it in their own handwritten or something. I was going to put "wildlife and in very small letter under it with () around the work "naturally" or something. I decided to leave it simple and those who want to can add more to the title. I dont mind if others want to revamp my pages to make them fit with their photos.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Those are all really great ideas. I really like the little dinos, but don't have enough time to be messing around with them.
I'm going to print this out and put it with my Paper Doll Ctrdg. This time around I decided to throw in the towel, just because time is of the essence and I have a lot of other stuff on my "to do list". I just want to get the Card Candy done and out the door. I ran to ACM and found really cute dino paper in the color scheme that I was already using so I'm going to spend the night cutting and glueing and get them in the mail tomorrow so they won't be too late. :flower3:

Hey, just wanted to let you know I mailed today.
I know, I know, you're away! But don't worry, because I mailed Parcel Post, so it's not even supposed to get there until the 9th at the earliest. I also have DC, so if it's not showing up after you get home, we can use that to figure out where it is.
I guess consider this me checking in for Wednesday too. :)
Should be fine. Any mail that isn't sent priority to me is usually at least a day longer than it should be! So, I'm sure I'll be home before it gets there.

But we love you for it! I can't wait to see them.
Poor DBF, I have a list of all the places we have to go on this trip so I can use all my swap pieces. At least Animal Kingdom is his favorite park.
I'm using the Safari Chic Stack too and just looking at Z2H's pages we already have a duplicate. The only pages I've had a chance to work on is my Girraffe page and the base page (with the tree) is the same as her Discovery Island Page.
Should I redo the Giraffe's? Fortuately they don't look alike, other than that background page. What should I do? I can't do anything with 3 Giraffe pages. I suppose I could use one and give another one to my mom.
Any suggestions?

p.s. I still don't have a camera, but here is what my page looks like.
Safari sunset with silohetted tree background paper. Bottom border of silohetted giraffes walking towards the tree (like in the Lion King movie)
Then of course I have the photomats and the title, but the basic design is around the tree and the giraffe border. Help - what to do?

NemoMom -- it is SCAL --the font is called Toontime. SCAL is not hard to learn if all you want to do is cut letters, weld and shadow. I still have not had much patience for learning inkscape. However, even if I never learn it, SCAL is still worth every penny to me.

Another way to look at the duplicate paper issue is that we would never know about the duplicates if photos weren't posted. Posting photos of your pages is optional and nobody will make you look at the slideshow when I take pictures of the pages and post. So, if ZTH hadn't posted a picture of her page, you'd never have known and would have used the paper you'd picked out with no questions.

No tools, just Tim Holtz Distress Ink. THe colors are Peeled Paint on the greens, and tea on the browns. THe 12x12 is from Jo-Ann's -- a 25 pack of kraft paper -- usually sells for $4.99, but goes on sale frequently for $2.99 -- I can't remember the name.
It took me a long time to realize that I couldn't be nice and neat -- you really have to just quicky ink it up and not even really look at it. If I pay attention to what I am doing, next thing you know it is all way too symmetrical and that just ruins the effect.

Just checking in. I need to finish the Resort Swap, because it's due first, then come back and finish what I've started for this swap.
I did decide to redo my Giraffe pages. It was too close to the designs from not just someone else's page, because of the paper used, but I also used the giraffe borders. We all would have had 4 pages that looked similar. Thank you to everyone who said not to worry about it, but I loose sleep over these things......No worries.
Anyway, I was in JoAnne's and they were having a big sale and I found giraffe paper that I liked so decided to "redo".

I'm not done,, but I'm not tardy yet. LOL. I will be done well before Sept 23rd. We had out of town guests for a few days and then back to school stuff. OMG - I totally flaked out on the mail in date. I finished up a few days ago and packed them since I was thinking that I'd mail them from Orlando on Saturday (the 19th), since I have to run out that morning to pick up a few items at the grocery store the first morning of our vacation.
I thought I had already mentioned that in an earlier posting, but I just looked quickly and I guess I had meant too, but didn't post. My bad - sorry about that.
I can mail them from Massachusetts tomorrow - or I can mail them from Florida on Saturday. Let me know which you'd prefer and I'll accomodate.

You'll be mailing Priority so the package should get to me by the due date either way. My only concern with mailing it from Orlando is that I know if it were me, I'd be so excited packing things up for WDW that I'd end up leaving that package behind! I'm looking forward to seeing your pages. Have a great trip to WDW!!!!!!
I wasn't even thinking about that they'd be priority either way. I figured I'd be saving a couple bucks by sending them from FL - guess I didn't think that through very well.
They are already packed with the kids stuff and ready to go to Florida, so I'm going to mail them from there. I'm not home this morning and if I start running back and forth, I'm going to be in a real pickle with everything else on my "to do" list. I kept adding to it and now I'm really starting to freak out. (I decided to make personalized t-shirts for my family - like I didn't have enough going on).
I will have a computer with me in Florida so I'll be able to update everyone and let you know when I get back from mailing on Saturday. Do I post the DC number, or just hold on to it "in case".
Thanks to everyone for your patience. Sorry to be the last one in again. I'm so jealous of all of you who sign up and get everything in early.:worship: I always manage to meet the deadline - but early for me is never going to happen.:rotfl:

Actually, if you aren't sending in a flat rate box, priority might be cheaper from Orlando than your home. As for the DC#, you can give it to me or hold onto it for just in case.
And, the important date for every swap is the due date. Don't worry about being the last one, you will have your stuff to me by the due date and that's what's important. Also, most of these gals in this swap are in my other swaps as well so they can't get their stuff back anyway until I get everything from those swaps and there's still quite a few that will be coming in the next 6 days.
Enjoy your trip!
Thanks, Stephanie. I'll let you know when they are postal and I don't think it would take more than a couple of days once I send them from Orlando on Saturday. MegB:flower3:
Mine are postal. I actually sent them out of Massachusetts on Friday after all. There really was a method to my madness.
Thought process -
Need extra space in luggage for all the stuff we buy at Disney World.
Hey pack the big swap box - it won't be coming home so that's space that will be available on the way home.
Shoot - need more space to pack all those princess dresses for my two girlsprincess:princess:. Great, find and dig out the swap box, jam 7 princess dresses in the suitcase - or pay a million dollars for more dresses in Florida:scared1:.
So, we stopped at the post office on the way to the airport. I have the DC number, mailed priority and was told that it should arrive in Florida on Tuesday, maybe Monday.
Can't wait to get everything. I really liked this swap.

THanks! I forget what I sent to you - -can the everyday swap get in there as well? Did I send you enough postage for all 3 swaps?

I've got everything packed in a large box except for the couple of AK element groups that aren't complete yet (they just arrived today). It is a very full box, but it will all fit! It's also got the leftover bits from the color swap so you are going to have lots of fun things to look at when you get the box! And, yes, you sent enough $$ to cover the postage. All is fine. You aren't in the last group I'm missing so I'm hoping to finish swapping this out tomorrow and should get your box to the post office then too. I'll let you know.

:goodvibes I had a feeling I would get mine today and I was sooooo worried that the post man would leave them sitting on my porch and the rain would get them. Thankgoodness he put my box between my glass door and front door, so they were nice and protected. One day I might get a covered porch.
I am sooooo in  with completed page swaps. I adore every page I got. Absolutely beautiful. I know some I will have to wait to use until I go next year, because they have changed the names of things or added things that were not there in 2001. Yes its been that long since I have been to AK.
Side not on my Dinoland USA page i was looking at it and thinking to myself "now I know I had a bone journal box". I could not find them and realized mine had slid all the way into to photo mat without nothing peeking out. So for those of you in this group look for your bones.
Thanks so much for hosting Stephanie! I got back last night and my package was waiting for me. I L-O-V-E everything.
Can't wait for another swap.
