I know there are a lot of broadway fans on this board.
Tonight PBS debuted a concert revival of the musical by ABBA.
It has Idina Menzel (of Wicked fame), Adam Pascal (of RENT fame), and Josh Groban (of 15 minutes of fame).
Don't know when it will re-air - but it's on iTunes as of yesterday.
The music was never a mainstream success - but the score is phenomenal (IMHO).

I watched most of it. It is an interesting score. It's a show that was never quite "right"
The other musical that I can't quite grip is "Nine" There's a movie version coming out in November....wonder if that'll clear things up......

I remember really liking the song "One Night in Bankok" in high school, and anxiously awaiting to see the musical. Alas, Chess seemed to fizzle out before ever making it anywhere near me. I've never seen it.

I half-watched, mostly listened, to that last night while I was in DIS chat. I've always been curious about that show, but had never seen it or heard all of the music before. The performers were great, the music was "okay" (with the exception of "One Night in Bangkok," which is a great song), but the story was kind of weak I thought.
I knew I loved Menzel, but had never seen Adam Pascal. He was AWESOME. I thought that Josh Groban held his own too. That's an accomplishment in and of itself when you're paired with Idina Menzel.

Adam Pascal is awesome.
Do a YouTube search for him, and watch the duet of Suddenly Seymour (from Little Shop of Horrors) he did with Mandy Moore. It's one of my faves.
(then, go back & check out some of his work in RENT. melts)

I second Adam Pascal being awesome. Besides Rent, he was also in the original Broadway cast of Aida.
I forgot all about Chess! Darn. I hope they show it again soon.
Idina Menzel is so talented. I saw her in concert back in March and she actually mentioned filming this special.

I actually saw this show in HS and really enjoyed it. I'm also a fan of all three of the artists. I'm so sorry I missed it! Anyone know if it's being replayed? (or how to find out?)

You could do a search on the public television website maybe? It looks like you're in Indy like me - I saw it on WFYI. Maybe they'll have it in their listings on a website somewhere?

I'm guessing they'll replay it - they normally do after awhile.
It's available on DVD at amazon.com for around $15.
Regarding the musical itself - horrible script...but some glimpses of great music!

I have it DVR'ed - haven't seen it fully yet.
I have a feeling they won't replay it for a while. Gotta get those DVD sales going...
