Looking at planning a trip to Vegas:cool1: and have some questions:goodvibes

1) Recommendations on hotels-would like to stay on the strip-somewhere nice but kind of want a deal too-kwim!

2) Looking at Alligent Air out of Grand Forks or Fargo..will see which flight time is better for us. So about those 29.00 dollar fares..is that pretty standard??? If I am looking at Oct longweekend when should I book? I am thinking for a long weekend I should book earlier? I see other fares right now which would still be a good price even when you add in the fee for one bag & the other fee's they like to charge..so either way I feel it is a good price:goodvibes

Wait..one more question!
3) Shows in Vegas..what have you seen & what did you think of it?

my favorite is the Bellagio. Sign up on their website to be notified of deals. Compared to Disney, the Bellagio on sale is a STEAL!! LOL

Have flown allegiant to vegas a few times from Great Falls, mt. the $29 flights are their sale price. I know from GF even 59 is a good price. It seems their really good sales go on about month and half before departure, and just get better if the plane is not booked the closer to the departure date. they do charge you for each bag you check with you, so what I found was people just bringing carryon if they were going for only a weekend or so. If you are going on the long weekend I would not wait too long to book, they used to have a thing you could buy and if the price went down you would get the credit, i believe it was 35 dollars or so, have a friend who buys it all the time and always seems to have a credit.

As for hotels, bally's seems to have a lot of sales lately if you sign up for their email promos. so does mgm. you could go on to fat wallet dot com and they have a page dedicated to the vegas hotel deals.

hope some of this info is helpful if you have more questions let me know

Jenn

My wife and I went without our kids in March. Stayed at MGM Grand, LOVED the beds - so comfy!

Saw Wayne Brady at the Venetian :worship:. Amazing improv show, similar to his "Who's Line" days :happytv:. 90 minutes with no break :rotfl2:. Got tickets at tix4tonight - recommended!

We used the Deuce bus and didn't bother with the monorail, taxis or rental cars. Took a shuttle between the airport and the hotel.

I saw a bunch of shows in April: Legends - recommend; Donny and Marie - recommend; Blue Man Group and Cirque de Soleil -- I don't have to do that again.

Ditto about renting a car. Unless your venturing off the strip you don't need one. The Deuce is great.

It is really nice to stay mid strip- Bally's- a little older but big rooms, Paris- very nice with nice rooms, Bellagio- gorgeous but very expensive- Ceasars- beautiful and a little cheaper than Bellagio, and Flamingo- one of the best pools on the strip but rooms are a little worn.

Also be sure to go to the individual hotel websites and sign up for email alerts when they have specials. I get them all the time.

I'm going with friends in September and we booked under a deal where we got a 2 BR suite at MGM for $209 a night!! Amazing deal. (depending on the weekend I've seen it listed for $2500/night!!)

okay..that is one crazy deal!!!

so if you sign up for their email offers...is your inbox swamped with stuff from them? or are they pretty good about not sending out crazy amounts of stuff?

I got an email for 25% off the Bellagio between now and January. There are rates as low as $90/night! I priced out 4 nights at the Bellagio for 2 people, with the $79 each way on Alligeant from Grand Forks (with all their extras for seat selection and priority loading) and shuttle to/from the hotel for a grand total of $955! We paid $600 each on AC last year!

Why did I never know about Alligeant before?!

I got the Bellagio email today too...

4 of us went to Vegas last November. We booked w/Westjet vacations. 4 nights at the Venetian incl air was $529pp CDN. Pretty darn great!

I priced the Monte Carlo yesterday...Sept 20-24/4 nites..it came to $164 for a King suite...air with Southwest (non stop) is just over $1300 for 4 people. That makes it...$1464 for 4. Per person: $366 You could add another room for 2 people for another $164. I am thinking of doing this....

As for shows - my dad and his girlfriend went to "Mystere" at Treasure Island and loved it. They say if you wand to see a cirque show this is the one to start off with.

Also I have heard Terry Fador? is amazing.

In my sixteen trips to Vegas I have yet to see a show.

I wish I had known about allegiant in years past!

I wish I could 'take' to Cirque..I have seen La Nouba at WDW and we saw Ka in Vegas and I find them soooo boring. I am convinced you have to be on something to get them!;)

We saw Tom Jones..oldie but goodie...Menopause the Musical (I think that was the name?) and Bette Midler. They were all excellent, except for Ka as mentioned...

When we went to Vegas we stayed at Treasure Island. Loved the hotel and the service. We too used the duece and also took a cab ride to the outlet malls. We went to see Elton John at Ceasers Palace and Wayne Brady at the Venetian. Check with tix4tonight to get some tickets. I would recommend Wayne Brady. I don't think we ever laughed so hard. Some of the hotels are linked together so if you sign up for one, they send you some different hotels. My aunt stayed at the Riveria at little further down the strip and she said it was a great value and a nice place to stay. Cheapo Vegas . com is a great place to make comparrions between hotels. Good luck and have fun.

The Venetian is a great place to stay. Sign up for their newsletters to get deals, hotel credit for food, etc.

Best to stay at that central part of the strip since that seems to be where a lot of the action is. Hotels in that part of the strip are the Venetian, Treasure Island, Mirage, Bellagio, Bally's, Paris, Wynn, Caesars. I'm sure there are other hotels, but those are the familiar hotels that most have mentioned on this thread.

When we went last year, we stayed at the Signature at MGM (behind the MGM). It was fabulous accommodations but we felt rather far away from the action. You can take the Deuce bus, but it takes FOREVER to get you to the central strip, not because it's a long ways by bus but because of all the pedestrian and car traffic. Things move pretty slow. We walked it several times, but it was really hot (90 deg F), hard on the feet (pounding the pavement in the cement jungle), and really bothersome with the people passing out those leaflets. The monorail is fast but it cost us $9 pp (:scared1:) each way.

If you go to Travelzoo.com, there are sometimes discounted tickets to see Vegas shows.

Vegas is a lot of fun! :thumbsup2 Great eats, super entertainment, and fun gambling (esp if you happen to win some $$$ :cool1:). Have a fabulous time!!!

Tickets2Nite is better than 'that other' company mentioned in post 23 ;) This is the original half-price ticket agency in Las Vegas. Some of their tickets can be purchased in advance by phone; otherwise, for either agency, you need to go wait in line and you can generally only get same-day tickets.

Also, register at goldstar.com - they send out a weekly e-mail with advance sale discounted tickets. Sometimes they even have free tickets. Note that none of these companies has half-price or deeply-discounted tickets to the first-tier shows (e.g. Bette Midler, any of the Cirque shows...).

just discovered that they are having a sale with allegiant right now..buy one and get the 2nd person FREE! this is to vegas only..book in the next couple of weeks and travel thru the end of the year.

we are already booked..if not I would consider this even though the flight times from Grand Forks are not great.

i live in vegas.. the shows i suggest are:
blue man group
cirque de soliel
tony and tina's wedding
watch the fountains at bellagio (they play every 15 minutes and are free)
the volcano show at the mirage (starts every hour at night, free)
Phatom of the Opera
Lion King

Personal experience says these shows are great.

As for pools, Mandaly Bay has the best by far. They have a lazy river, a surfing area, and a regular pool.
