We just returned on June 1st after a fabulous week at POFQ. Before our vacation in 2008, I spent hours here reading reviews and trip reports and did the same thing this year...I have NO idea why I didn't join in then.
Anyway, I miss Disney World soooo much and all I can think about is our next vacation. :yay:

Thank you! Where are you in S. Jersey? I have a beach house on LBI, Harvey Cedars, but my main residence is in Sparta.

Welcome to the board.
I have noticed lots and lots of Jersey people here. How is Jersey week at Disney World, are the crowds horrible? 'Cause that's the week I'm thinking of going next, DH's birthday in Nov. 7th. :)

YAY for Loveladies! We just drove down last week to get the house opened up for the season.

If I had a house at the shore I would be there EVERYDAY (in the summer that is) and skip Disney completely. Of course, if hadn't bought so many DVC points, and other high priced timeshares, maybe I would have had a shot at buying a place in Harvey Cedars or Loveladies. Have a great summer you two.
Hey, Welcome back to the Garden State. My husband calls it the warehouse state!!! because in Central NJ where we live there aren't anymore farms--only warehouses.

Gotta love the summer traffic, although the backups on 72 didn't seem so bad this past weekend. Probably the bum weather that kept some at home.

We live here year round, so the allure of the beach is lost on us. That's what happens when you grow up with it in your back yard. We have DVC too and its a welcome change of scenery.

Well, we bought the beach house in '81 when our kids were little and now that they've grown up (one daughter lives in California), DH and I don't spend as much time there as we used to. Thinking about selling this year and maybe *fingers crossed* I can talk DH into investing some of the profit in DVC!

We'll be there during "Jersey Week." And it's been a number of years since we've done it, but it's definitely not as bad as the summer, and everyone's from New Jersey! :dance3:
Wear a shirt from your local high school or something and you'll be sure to run into someone from your area.

I try not to travel on weekends, but if I have no choice, I hit the Parkway by 4 a.m. Don't try to drive south of the bridge during July and August either. We had a market analysis done this week by HCH because we're thinking of selling, DH is going to retire in a year or two so we've been looking around Lewes, DE (no sales tax!).

I've never been in Summer but I really noticed the difference in the crowd level this trip (Mem. Day-June 1) from last year during the last week in April. November is when I start going bonkers because I know that winter's definitely on it's way, so a trip to Florida would be fabulous. Just waiting (impatiently) for a pin code...or something.... ;) It'd be fun to be there with the rest of the state!

Nice area. We take the ferry over there sometimes. Very quiet and relaxed. We also do a lot of shopping there. We're looking to bail soon where we are and head south. DH retired this year and the kids will be done with school soon. We're just hoping in the next 2 years the property values bounce back a bit because that's when we're looking to sell, although the shore homes seem to have retained most of their value. Hope you got good news with your market analysis. We thought about getting a CMA done too, but since we're not quite ready to pack up and go we figured we'll wait. Just curious, but what was your experience with HCH? Good to use?
Also about Jersey Week, IMO I think its a little overblown. Some folks like to make it out like the whole state of NJ packs up and funnels down to Disney, but we find it quite manageable at that time. The weather is milder, the crowds really are not bad and you also get to hit the tail end of F&W Festival.

Yep, that's what I was thinking about Jersey week, I just can't stand the really hot weather and I'm thinking November would be great.
Originally, we considered moving to LBI year round but then we'd still be stuck with Jersey taxes. HCH was ok, that's who we bought from in '81, but we're going to get someone else in as well, maybe Coldwell Banker or Weichert. Wasn't surprised at all with the numbers they gave us...I wish we had sold three years ago though! We'd rather wait til the market bounces back a bit, but then it might go even lower and we can't wait forever. Nevertheless, we're going to take a beating on capital gains because it's not our primary residence. :(
My grandmother used to live in Rehoboth so I'm pretty familiar with Lewes and always liked it there. Close enough to the beaches but not too close.

Jersey Girl! Born and raised at the Shore. I can see
Parkway South from my front door and in the summer
on Fridays it's not a pretty sight!
Welcome to the boards!!
I can tell you Jersey Week this year might be a little
different...I know our school district (Brick) and
another huge district (Toms River) will have no school
from 11/2 through 11/6. (There may be others, but I just
did a random search of a few school districts in
Monmouth/Ocean county areas.) If hubby wasn't
unemployed at the moment, I would be taking the kids
to WDW for sure! I had priced some packages earlier this
year when I saw the school calendar for 2009-2010 but
I guess it's a good thing I didn't make final plans...
Oh well, there's always next year for my (gulp) :scared1: 50th birthday!

When I was younger (much younger!), I thought that driving down the Parkway on a Friday night was fun....I must've been insane.
We're only going in November if I can somehow manage either free dining or a 40% pin code, can't afford two trips in one year otherwise.
50? Ha! You're a baby....I'm dreading my 60th come this December. Eeeeek!

This year, Ocean County moved to a county-wide calendar for 2009-2010 school year so it may be a little more crowded.

We went during "Jersey Week" in 2007. Never again.:scared1: It was not only Jersey week, it was the end of the Food & Wine Festival so it was very crowded. We waited forever for buses both from POP in the morning and from the parks at night. The crowds were rediculous and fast passes were usually gone before 10:00am. I'd never do that week again. In fact, I'd take my kids out of school for a week before I went that week.
Just my "Jersey" opinion!

Yep, we re-thought the Jersey week thing and decided that late November would be much better for us and get out of there before Pop Warner for sure! I'm not a big fan of the heat either, we were there the last week in May and I thought I was going to die, so Nov. will be better I'm sure. :)

I respect your opinion! We've decided to go late November rather than the first week, I had forgotten about the food and wine thing at Epcot. Just waiting patiently (!) for a code or Disney Visa free dining. Besides, I spend my entire life with Jersey people, why would I want to spend my vacation with them as well? ;)

Hi Summer Lady.
Thanks for respecting my opinion;) Have you gotten your code yet for Free Dining in November?? I'm going the week of Halloween and got free dining this past weekend. Substantial savings for us since my oldest daughter is an "adult" as far as Disney Dining is concerned!
Good Luck with the Free Dining! and I'm with you, we see enough of Jersey people all the time, why run into them at WDW too!!!

Well, I did a complete flip-flop...we're going the first week in November after all, looks like I'm going to be shoulder to shoulder with some of my neighbors. ;) Yes, I booked the Disney Visa free dining last Friday morning but then today, when the room only discount came out, I changed my reservation and cancelled the FD. Sheesh. Then I added the QSDP and park tickets....didn't save much $ but DH and I both prefer the counter service dining (we've done the regular DDP and and QSDP before) simply because neither of us is wild about having to be at a certain place at a set time when we're on vacation.
I hope you have the best time at WDW ever! :)

There are many on this board. I am also amazed how many I run into in the parks. Most of the people I run into are from Bergen County.
