How does one get upgraded? Is it something that's offered to you or do you need to ask for it? If I need to ask for it, should I mention something in my room requests? Thanks!

What kind of upgrade are you trying to get? Swan/Dolphin upgrades Starwood members automotically if there is space available.

At the AKL last December, I just asked when checking in "how much to upgrade to concierge?" (from deluxe savannah view). Since it was a very reasonable amount, we paid it and got upgraded. ;)

The question is are you looking for a "free" upgrade our just hoping that the price they might charge you for a better view at check-in would be cheeper then rack rate?

If you are looking for a "free" upgrade then it is luck of the draw. There does not seem to be a pattern as to who gets "free" upgrades. There are proboly many different things including luck that factors into why a person might get a "free" upgrade.

If you are just looking to maybe pay cheeper then rack rate for a better view then I would reconmend that at check you inquire as to how much more a night it would be to upgrade from the view booked to the view you are interested in.

Okay so you are looking for a "free" upgrade. See my first post as to how these types of upgrades are luck of the draw.

If you feel that not having a waterview might diminissh your vaction experiance then I would reconmend booking the water view room upfront.

At a moderate I would not pay extra for a water view room as all of the moderates have outdoor walkways and no balconies.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. A waterview at a moderate is not really worth the expense to me, but free stuff is always great! (-; People here know so much about how to get the most out of Disney and I thought there may have been some secret handshake required or something-- LOL! Thanks for your help!
