View Full Version : Should I Upgrade to DLH??!!!

As we get nearer to our trip, DW and myself have started asking ourselves, shall we push the boat out and upgrade to the Disneyland Hotel instead of Newport Bay for our 4 night trip next month! I phoned up today, and was quoted an extra £598 to upgrade.
I am sorely tempted - the proximity to the parks and the better breakfasts are very enticing, but my son has his heart set on swimming in the Newport Bay pool, which looks much better than the DLH pool.
What should we do - shall we go for it? :confused3
Also, can anybody tell me if all DLH rooms get the VIP Fastpasses, or is this just the Castle Club rooms?

I've only just read the title and I'm saying yes :lmao:
Only castle club get the vip fastpasses, but you will get one fastpass each per person, per day in a standard room.
I've not used the pool in DLH - but I reckon that's a pretty good price for upgrade.
If you have the money, then i'd splash out - but I know a lot of people who'd rather use the extra money for buying pressies and stuff.
I think everyone should experience the DLH at least once, and the location just cannot be beaten.
Good luck deciding - wish i had your dilema :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

It seems a lot of money to me to upgrade
The VIP passes are only for Castle Club rooms but normal rooms get one FP per person per day - a voucher that you just show at the FP entrance when you want

Fastpasses from the DLH are only valid during certain times of the day, I think its in the afternoon.

Yes I think the fastpasses are valid from 2-6 from memory. I've stayed in the DLH twice and while I loved it and would stay again at the right price, £600 seems an awful lot to pay for an upgrade. Depends how much that money means to you I guess! If there's another 50% AP offer on the DLH I'll be there like a shot!

Exactly my thoughts! For £600 I've had a 2 night stay at NPBC, a 4 night stay at DCR AND a 5 night stay at DCR so personally I'd rather have three trips than just one.
If it had been £100-150 I'd have said to definatly go for it.
I'll be 1st in line for another 50% off offer at the DLH

if it were winter time id say go for!! as the walk back to the other hotels in the cold seems extra long:sad1: also as you son is looking foward to the pool in the npb which looks fantastic id stay put, you could always put the £600 towards ur nxt trip and the dlh:goodvibes

The DLH fastpasses are valid anytime except for between 1pm and 4pm.

I wouldn't upgrade for that money... The money will buy you at least a couple of nice lunches/dinners and some souveniers...
That's my thought anyway.:)

I would say GO FOR IT...even if you only do it once
We stayed at the DLH in January becasue we got a great price (£650ish for 3 nights) and we've booked again for October with the 40% discount (£647 for 2 nights) This was with 2 adults and DD (9)
We have stayed at other DLP hotels and yes we loved them but after staying in the DLH it really is a whole different world.
For us the hotel is part of the experience for others it isn't, I suppose it really depends on what you want from a holiday. Personally I will never go to DLP without staying at the DLH even if that means less trips.
It really is amazing and I think that once you've stayed there you really wont want to stay anywhere else.
I'm sure others disagree, my DH is sitting next to me shaking his head and tutting at me becasue he thinks although the hotel was gorgeous it wasn't worth that much however me and DD LOVED it from start to finish hence the October trip with my Mum (who has never been and is desperate to stay there!)....
If you've got the extra cash go for it, you wont be disappointed :goodvibes

I've decided not to upgrade - as has been pointed out, for the money it would take to upgrade, I could probably get another complete trip at a cheaper time of year. Plus DS has reinforced (quite loudly as he does!) that he prefers the NPB swimming pool and lighthouse.
So, what can we spend £600 on - hmm, I could do with a new PC, or how about a new flatscreen TV, can i get away with a subscription to Sky Sports.... :confused3

I'd say go for it definitely!
I loooooooooooooooooooooove the DLH and will not be staying at another DLP hotel from now on (unless they build some fancy new one!)
It completely changes the way your trip feels and makes everything so much easier and more relaxing. My finace and I have agreed we'd rather go once every 2 years and stay at DLH than every year or more frequently and stay elsewhere. :)

You could go to the DLH at a cheaper time of year to make it more affordable. That's what I did when I upgraded to the DLH. I didn't regret upgrading once. It was worth every penny.:goodvibes

off topic - why is the disneyland hotel only billed as a four star hotel when it has 5 star prices?
thanks!

Star ratings are to do with Staff:Guest ratio I believe, I've stayed at a lot of 5 star hotels and also a 6 star one, and I can honestly say that the DLH seems 5 star to me. :)

No, star ratings are given based purely on what facilities are provided e.g. tea and coffee making facilities, trouser presses, minibars in rooms, etc. etc. Quality of service doesn't come into it - I have stayed at some pretty poor 5 star hotels in my time, ruined by poor service.
Disney is (or should be!) all about the quality of service and ambience about the place, but they don't exactly overdo the facilities they offer you - for example, no tea or coffee making facilities as standard in most of the hotels is pretty poor.

Yep, as said, star rating is based on facilities available like tea/coffee making, trouser press blah blah. The DLH may have scored a little higher now it has a Spa - obv didn't have that when it was opened and first rated.
I agree that it's poop that it doesn't have tea/coffee facils in the standard rooms - definately missing imo.
The location though is out of this world and I recall coming on here as a newby last year and saying 'should I book the DLH' and someone said, nope, not as your first trip because if you do, you won't want to stay anywhere else - and they were right :lmao: In my opinion, the DLH's location is first class and with two little ones it's ideal for us right now. :lovestruc:cloud9:
However, I do like the look for the SL for Christmas time (but ssssh, I can't even talk about a Christmas trip :rolleyes1).... I believe the SL gets v booked up at Christmas :santa:
