I almost booked a trip yesterday--I went to the official site to check out the dining ADR thingy, and saw that they extended free dining....I put it some days & a hotel & I loved the price. But I resisted temptation. I need to be more fiscally responsible so I can't do a trip. But boy did I want to do it. :rolleyes1

towards the end of Sept/beginning of Oct. A slow time at work, Disney isn't horribly busy, FREE DINING!!!!!! But I've resisted so far.

Well, we'll be there Sept. 20-29, so maybe you should come :teeth:
How long out did they extend it. It was at Oct. 3.

And.....dining is online now....we'll see how that goes. I can book on Monday. On taking a look it is going to be slow going for this dial-us user

Hey! We'll be there at the same time! I didn't realize free dining was that far into October. Can't get it with the DVC, tho. rats. Maybe we can meet up for a few minutes somewhere?

OK...I have CLEARLY not had my coffee this morning...why I thought you were in October when it does indeed say 8/15! I guess I got excited that the 15-20 matched! LOL! That makes more sense with free dining, too.

Oh yeah. But it's probably best that I didn't. Yes, Nancy, we have to wait 11 months to book DVC. I imagine those VGC villas are gorgeous, and hope to stay there some day.

Our 3 night DCL cruise will be with DS's family as well as with my DSis and her DSO. We're eagerly waiting word on an SSR resale to see if we can book a treehouse villa for the pre cruise stay! That cruise begins November 11th 2010. It's a Thursday, so I don't have to miss any school for that stay if I go to FL after work on Tuesday.

Nancy, did you have a wonderful time? Apologies for not being able to meet up. We had to change so many plans last minute because of transport issues, but everything worked out great in the end. I definitely want to plan another visit, but possibily not for a good few years! lol.

I think we're aiming for Disneyland Paris in December 2010 - saving the amount money for that is more realistic than saving for a WDW holiday!

Nancy, how's the house selling going? Do you have people looking at the house, this is the perfect time to buy, with low interest rates, I'm surprise it hasn't sold yet, it's been on the market a long time.
Sending you some pixie dust for hoping it sales soon.pixiedust:

Since summer we have been getting more lookers. I think it will stop now or at least very few, until after the holidays.
Our agent wants us to lower the price.....again  No one else thinks it will really help.
We need all the bank owned ones gone....you just can't compete with those prices.

Glad to hear your good news, Missy1961!

We will be going for a F&W/MNSSHP (hopefully a party) weekend, October 1 -4.

My DSis and her friends ate at Kouzzina last month and raved...took leftovers back to the room and loved them, too.

Not at WDW, but DH and I went to Savannah, to two restaurants associated with Paula Deen over the weekend. Uncle Bubba's Oyster House...loved the Low-country boil, and the to Lady and Sons and loved the crab stew appetizer and then the buffet, the fried chicken was out of this world. There were healthier offerings of chicken, but I stuck with what I loved!

We had a great rate from Disney Visa at Disney's HHI resort and that was wonderful too. The 2 nights there went by so fast, but the trip was definitely worth it. It was our first visit to that area, and we're looking forward to going again sometime.

I hadn't know anything about Paula Deen until I began researching Savannah! Today at Krogers I noticed that they are featuring Paula Deen Spiral sliced hams! It's funny how when you learn about something/someone, you begin seeing that everywhere!

Actually we're back from our trip. Had a great time! Drove it and really enjoyed that with the changing of the leaves. It was a beautiful drive both ways. We got back late on Saturday night, the 31st, and the next day our good feelings came to an abrupt halt, as my 58 year old brother had an acute heart attack. I'm so thankful we were home. Would never have thought he was a heart attack candidate. It was a shock. Anyway, he's doing better now. So I'm still playing catch up with all the after-vacation stuff to do and put away. :goodvibes Oh, and waiting on the pin exchange!!! :rotfl:

Im going October 15- 24, 2010.

We booked the Poly, but if a good deal doesnt come out between now and April-ish, we may change resorts. I have one in college this year and another not too far behind. I think my deluxe resort days are coming to an end!

This year it will only be DH, DD and myself. DS18 wil be at college and DS15 will have his license by then and will stay at Nanas and drive himself back and forth to school. Im not worried about pulling DD5 out of 1st grade for a week! She can make it up during the next 12 years!

Anyone else going?

Writing this from the new Bay Lake Tower and all I can say is WOW!!! The view is incredible!! We have a room facing the MK and we get to see the fireworks every night from the balcony! Disney sure has done this DVC location right!! Walking to the Mk everyday or taking the monorail is a huge perk! The room is very modern with stainless steel appliances and funky furniture! The best thing about this room for us though being a family of 5 is that the rooms now sleep 5 (with a single bed sleeper chair) and it has 2 bathrooms! Both with tubs and showers! It makes it soooo easy for all of us to get ready faster in the AM!! If anyone is staying here on their next trip I can guarantee you will LOVE it!!! I can honestly say I will hate leaving here to go back to the frozen North!! LOL

I can tell you one thing I have been spoiled! It will be VERY difficult to stay anywhere else after staying here! We have 2 more trips this year one in April with just friends and a 2 week vaca in August with the dance company (DD is dancing here at DTD) In April our friends are staying at AK Kadani Village and they want us to stay there too but I have to tell you I LOVE :love:it here! The Mk view is amazing but the Bay Lake view is also great!:thumbsup2 You can always see the MK view and fireworks from many vantage points in the hotel! Just being so close to MK and being able to walk or monorail it when the crowds are so massive is the best! Believe me if I could LIVE here I sure would!:rotfl::laughing::lmao::thumbsup2;)

I would LOVE a DL Meet!! First visit I was 8...I am so old that it was pretty darn new! :goodvibes Last time we went was 1995 or maybe '96....hmm..when did CA open? It was before that and I've been rather put out with DL for building what looks like an eyesore to me. Oh, yes, I am a DL purest. :rotfl:DL's MK will forever be my favorite - heck, it's the original, Walt walked there everyday. Love the old Happiest Place on Earth sign, love the Disneyland Hotel, next favorite is the Candy Cane Inn.

Be still my heart.

Meriweather
01-07-2010, 04:50 PM
CA opened in 2001.
My first trip was 1957
We used to stay across the street in a place called Fantasy Motel....not there anymore.
Now....DGC all the way!! That is the reason we bought DVC to start with. Wanted to make sure we could get VGC when they went on sale. Now I want more points!!

It is Disneyland.....not DL's MK ;) BE a purest!! :rotfl: I am a CA girl (although northern), so had many trips when I was a kid.

Minnie&Nana
01-07-2010, 04:57 PM
It is sooo true - yes, Disneyland!!! I don't like DL or DLR....just Disneyland, please. ;)

I went after you in 1958...we lived in So Ca. I remember the Fantasy Motel!
Remember all the motels where/around Paradise Pier...what was the name of that hotel before Disney bought it? Usually I still think of it by that name.

We stayed at HoJo once in the '90's and never went back...don't understand why it's so popular - other than some great rates to be had.

Meriweather
01-07-2010, 05:11 PM
Great....we are staying at Hojo in June....it came recommended from one of the DLR meet ladies ;)
Disneyland is the original park. Disneyland Resort is all of it together.
I have read about what PP used to be but don't remember the name.
there used to be hotels everywhere.
It was so odd to go the first time DGC and CA were opened and remember that being the parking lot!! :rotfl:

Are you going on the ladies' only trip? I keep telling Beth I will, but we are never moved for it to work. Maybe next year ;)

Minnie&Nana
01-07-2010, 05:22 PM
Yes, I rememebr the parking lot and cannot imagine what the are looks like now. I just remembered that we also stayed at a Hyatt that used to be directly across the street from the Disneyland sign at the lights on Harbor - is that sign still there and can you still walk in that way?

I did sign up to go on the Ladies Trip, but was overwhelmed by the thread - tried to keep up a few times, but never felt I could get to know enough of them to be comfortable going. then when I saw it would be something like 43 attendees, I knew it was too much for me...and would not have had a roomie, so rooming alone would not be fun either. I am rather shy in person when it comes to groups, so would have been lost.

Dawn's unexpected passing was awful - just so sad. She was a lovely person.

The ladies group loves HoJo's, but I don't know why. I am very picky about a hotel, so maybe that's it...then again, I did read that it has been renovated. When we stayed the wing was brand new - or pretty new - but not a great stay. we had a thick line of ants in the bathroom - when we mentioned it to the front desk the only comment was, "We have ants in CA"...:confused3

Think PP was Pacific something...sound familair?

Meriweather
01-07-2010, 05:38 PM
That is the reason I am not sure I would ever go.....too many people. And I only know one of them....Beth. Met her in Las Vegas, so figure I can meet up with her again there sometime.
I am shy too .....and would rather room alone. So that makes it hard too. I would want to stay at VGC and DH would want to go. :rotfl:
I never read the thread really......just scanned the first page to see what was going on. Overwhelmed is right!! Just saw your picture.

We'll see how Hojos is. As long as it is clean, I am good.
Beth said to get building 1, Disney view, but DD said she didn't want to look out the window and would rather have the extra $$ to spend :rotfl: so we are standard.

couldn't tell you about signs and stuff....didn't notice. We stay onsite and don't usually look. We haven't driven since the change. When we move, we will drive.

PP used to be Pan Pacific Hotel ;)

Minnie&Nana
01-07-2010, 05:59 PM
PP used to be Pan Pacific Hotel ;)

:rotfl: Went right over my head!! :rotfl:

I wouldn't want to room with a total stranger - I did not know any of them and never connected with anyone. I have roomed with a couple of DIS friends, but they had become friends and we just had not met in person yet, so it was fun.

Did you check the HJ website? Oh and one the women who works there answers questions on the Disneyland community board, I think. Anyway, some rooms were refurbished more recently than others, so maybe that's why she suggested bldg one? Even in bldg on you could get a view of the tall trees which block the balcony. We were in the wing - it was definitely clean and again, I am very picky about clean. :thumbsup2

(Dawn posted a lot on that thread and had been to many gatherings - she died from the H1N1. Terrible. She sent me a lovely note when she read my son had passed...then every now and then a cheery hello pm)

Meriweather
01-07-2010, 06:48 PM
She suggested building one because it is closest to DLR and goes with the Disney view.
I figure since we are going in June it will be light late and the parks will be open late, so we don't need a view. Just somewhere to stay. DD hasn't been since 2004, so we will keep busy.
When DH and I go, we take more down time and then enjoy the room more.

That is terrible to die from something like the flu  DH had it and it was not a pleasant one!!

I have roomed with DIS people too, but ones I knew for quite awhile.....online at least and even then, I was still nervous about it. I guess I like my space.

I have not read through this thread, nor read it for awhile. But I am assuming you have thought about getting a grand gathering together. Not like there are a lot of perks or anything. However there are experiences specific to GG groups. Believe it is 8+ guests.
Understandably, I am not too big on off site resorts. ;) (Never having stayed at any myself.) However there seem to be some nice ones at reasonable rates for 1 and 2 bedroom suites.

Well our trip for Christmas/New Year this year has had to be posponed. The friends we were going with need to pospone it for a year so we will do that (I guess I will just miss the exchange meet trip by a few weeks!!) Although this does mean the money we had saved for the trip can go towards the new car I want which I was origionally going to get next summer (I am finally getting a sports car which I have wanted for about 10 years!!) We will be on the look out for a deal for a few days at Disneyland Paris though either in the summer or for Halloween so I will still get a Disney trip this year hopefully!!

We will match up room mates when the time comes, if people want them.
Some of us are DVC, so I assume some will be staying at those places.
Stay tuned......after my June trip (get back the 11th) we will start by setting the date!! :yay:

Looking forward to this!

I can add two dates to your list for next year. Trip 1: Jan 29th to Feb 13th/11 driving:drive: down to DL. Will be in DL Feb 1st to 8th, then taking the long way home, as we want to drive the Oregon/Washington coast. This is a surprise trip, as the kids will not know about the trip till the day we leave. DS7 is a worrier and it's easier for him this way. Both kids think that we are going the last 2 weeks of Aug/11 little do they know:littleangel:. Trip 2 is from Oct 1 to 9/11 in DL for a solo trip for myself to recover my sanity from the kids (at least for awhile):woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:. Will be flying down this trip, as it's an easy 3 hr flight from where I live. Have a great day!

POFQ was okay....our favorite was always POR!! LOve the quietness and walkways.

We chose OKW because it was the closest DVC to it in feel, but POR is quieter and more serene.

Evita_W
07-07-2010, 05:17 PM
why does there have to be TWO of them!!! :rotfl:

We could split time between the two...hahah ok maybe not...

There will be 7 of us in 2 rooms...Me, DH, MIL, FIL, SIL (15 and 13) and BIL (6)

I cannot wait...we make all our resevations NEXT WEEK!!

We will have Free Dining...Here is our sit down choices, what do you think? (We will pick counter service when we get there)

Dec. 21-Dec 28

*Cinderella's Royal Table (takes 2 credits)
*Le Cellier or Chefs de France (for Candlelight Prosessional)
*50s Prime Time
*Brown Derby (takes 2 credits)
*Tutto Italia

Am I missing any that I should do or I can pay out of pocket??

Thanks for the help guys!!

Meriweather
07-07-2010, 06:16 PM
I would of course pick Le Cellier over Chefs de France (but that is good too)

I am not a fan of Brown Derby....but DH loves it.

Never been to Tutto, but don't eat much Italian (too many carbs)

Love 50's

Love CRT

Evita_W
07-07-2010, 06:55 PM

I do not know if my family would want Brown Derby or not, I just really liked it last time....

My family are BIG Italian fans, but I am trying not to do Mama Melrose as well as Tutto Italia just because I want us to have a variety...:wizard:

Open Question: Would you leave your family and have a "special dinner" with DH? (Because we would love to do a place they would NOT like to do--For example: Boma or Jiko) I am not trying to be selfish...

Meriweather
07-07-2010, 07:18 PM
definitely....go!

We have done it....DS and DDIL went by themselves to a couple of places.
4 of us went to 'Ohana and left DD :rotfl:

I don't think we would survive if it was 24/7 time together.
Even on the cruise, we did different things on ship and different excursions.

My vote would be for POFQ. We love it there. The small size is great and it's very quiet and beautiful. We always stroll up to POR and it is a large resort.

My DSis and I have eaten at Tutto Italia and we really enjoyed it so that would get my vote. :goodvibes

We find POFQ much more quieter then POR (have stayed at both numerous times). However with that may people you may want POR, if you stay in Alligator Bayou (not sure of the spelling) the rooms sleep 5, as there is a trundal bed the 6 yr. old can sleep on.

As for dinning you have my favorite 50's, but I would also recommend Rainforest Cafe. Of course Rainforest does not take the DP, so you would have to pay OOP.

And I would so leave my family behind for a nice dinner with just DH. :thumbsup2

Pooh67_68

After I posted I was thinking, there is the option of renting DVC points from a member and geting a 2 bedroom villa at say OKW.

Evita_W
07-08-2010, 04:47 PM
Thank you everyone for the ideas on PO...It has been very helpful!

As far as renting points from a DVC member, we thought about that and even tried on here (the DIS) to find someone to rent from. The only problem is that we could not find someone that was able to work out a payment schedule with us. As much as I would love to pay it all outright, I cannot....

I thank you for the idea though.... That would definitely give us some room...

I am glad that I am picking some good places to eat....And thanks for convincing me to spend a special dinner with DH...:lovestruc ;) It is just hard for me to leave anyone out, but I know we wil all want some time to ourselves as well....

So, where do you think DH should go?? :confused3 I was thinking Jiko or Boma because we have enjoyed them before and I know nobody else would want to go there....

Pooh67_68
07-08-2010, 05:21 PM
Well if no one else would want to eat at either of thoes places, then yes that is where I would go. Which one though, I can't help with as we have never eaten at either.

We don't do a lot of sit downs because of the ADR's. We don't like being tied to a specific time to eat, so if we decide on sit down we will try a walk up.

CP, 50's, Rainforest, Boatwrights (POR restaurant, especially breakfast), The Wave (Contemporary restaurant), Garden Grill.
Ghirardelli once a trip, sometimes for lunch instead of dessert. :rotfl:

I will be trying the UK fish shoppe this trip and Boma for breakfast (we are staying AKL this trip).

Meriweather
07-08-2010, 06:32 PM
Boma is my favorite breakfast!! The French toast brioche is sooo good. I save my carbs for there!! :rotfl:

We liked Boma dinner too. Fulton's. Raglan Road (although it is noisy).
Artist Point is on our list to try soon.

We're the DGPs so we often let DS&DDiL go and have a quiet dinner. The two places they've eaten at most are Artist Point and Cape May Cafe for the dinner buffet. Of those, AP is the most "special." I like the Cali Grill for a very special meal.

I don't think Boatwrights is opened for breakfast any more. We loved their version of stuffed french toast, if they are opened for breakfast again, that's a place we just have to go to when we're in WDW next.

Bobbi is correct, Boatwrights wasn't doing breakfast in Nov. 09 (dang it) was hoping they would bring it back soon, but probably not. However dinner is pretty good too.

Fulton's - thanks Nancy. That is the other place we are trying, so long as John can get a steak, I want crab legs.
Forgot to mention we are doing HOB this trip too, I even got a gift certificate from www.restaurant.com

Off topic question...

How would I cook crab legs at home? the only fish I have cooked at home is haddock.

Meriweather

We really like HoB...have been many times, even away from Disney :) One of DH's favortie.
I have restaurant.come marked for that too. We are going in Oct to the one at DLR.

Never cooked crab legs, so can't help you there. I don't cook fish.....not a big fan. Luckily DH can get it a lot when he travels.
