DF & I have been together for 9 years now. Will be 10 by the time we tie the knot!

We've been living together for 7 years and on October 29th 2008 DF proposed with this lovely ring:

We had our engagement party in February 2009 at Chris’ mum and step dad’s farm. About 3 hours from where we live.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Wedding%20Planning/100_4146.jpg
These were our invitations.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Wedding%20Planning/100_4149.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Wedding%20Planning/100_4153.jpg
This was a poem I put in regarding gifts – please don’t flame me for this! Honestly, this is what is done in Australia! I tried to get my mum and Chris’ mum to spread the word, but they both told me to put in a poem. It was only after they were all sent out that I realised there was a pretty big mistake on it… Can you see what it is? :rotfl:

Inserts for accommodation for our guests.

The envelope I made to post the invites in.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Engagement%20Party/100_4175.jpg
This was our cake, it was supposed to be a mad hatter cake, but clearly the cake maker had no idea…

We only paid $100 for it though, and it was really quite pretty still.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Engagement%20Party/100_4179edit.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Engagement%20Party/100_4183.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Engagement%20Party/100_4249.jpg

Then I tasted it, and got pretty mad:headache:. I asked for mud marble cake on the bottom layer, and carrot cake on the top layer. The cake maker told me it wasn’t possible to put layers of frosting inside the cake, because it wouldn’t hold together… Clearly Disney are the better cake makers then! She also told me that people are supposed to eat the fondant. I told her we wouldn’t be, and I’d be adding ice cream or something for everyone to have with it. Not only that, but she put alcohol in the mud marble cake… Bleh! It was so gross, and I was so disappointed with it. I don’t like carrot cake, that’s why the smaller top layer was carrot cake, for people with not as much of a sweet tooth. The bottom layer was supposed to be for the childish people like me, who like really sweet, decadent cakes. People like me, who like really sweet decadent cakes, do not like alcohol in their cakes…

I didn’t complain though, because she did it for $100 as a favour to my family. I could have spent $450 and gotten someone who had done mad hatter cakes before, someone who knew how to put layers of frosting in the cake, and someone who knows what a mud marble cake is supposed to taste like, but I went with the $100 option…

Yay you started a PJ :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:
I loved the oics of your engagement party, must be so nice to live somewhere that you can party outdoors and not have to worry about the rain!

Where are you having your wedding?

BecBennett

I want the wedding pavilion for the ceremony, no questions about that, but I haven't completely decided on the reception. I like the Whitehall room, and it's probably the front runner, but I'm open to some of the ballrooms that are about. Especially some of the ones that can be divided up.

Excellent! :rotfl:Anything I can do to encourage people to use smilies in a responsible manner! :lmao:

I loved your engagement party! Looks like it was loads of fun and the sunset was gorgeous! I'm sorry your cake didn't taste the way it was supposed to - not sure about that alcohol thing either! But it looked spiffy! :thumbsup2

Ok, so when I first started planning our wedding. Someone told me that to visualise how you want your wedding to look, and describe it. The first word I thought of to describe my ideal wedding was “Rich” and by word association, I came up with chocolate and gold! So that’s how I decided on my colours!!

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Wedding%20Planning/Inspiration.jpg

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Wedding%20Planning/2420771195_23a313d797.jpg

I’m not going to do an actual theme for our wedding, but these colours will be used throughout it. Nothing is set in stone yet, but I think my bridesmaids will be in latte/chocolate coloured tea length dresses, and the groomsmen will possibly be in black suits with black shirts and gold vests and ties. I’m not sure about the groomsmen, because I get worried that it might look a little tacky, I might put them in all black yet, and have more gold as table decorations instead.

I bought this Christmas decoration back at Christmas. It’s just too cute. You may have noticed it on the cake table at our engagement party. It’s a permanent fixture at home now.

I also bought this for our cake topper.

It doesn’t look anything like Chris and I, but I love it. I love how they appear to be clinging so tightly to each other.

I’ve been assigned a wedding consultant! :cool1: Thanks to Vanessa for hooking me up with an email address so I didn’t have to get up at the crack of dawn to make the first phone call.

I’ve been assigned to Joe De Matei for the first stages. He’s been good so far, he’s sent me through the first lot of information, and I’ve told him that we’re hoping for either a 12:30pm or 2:00pm ceremony at the Wedding Pavilion in March, and I’m not sure on which reception location yet. We’ll probably have roughly 30 guests. I also told him that I’d like some information on gluten free meal options.

Hopefully he’ll get back to me with some suggestions on what locations he thinks will work. :thumbsup2

Your engagement party looked wonderful. I am sorry the cake wasn't exactly what you wanted but it was beautiful. I also loved the "rich" concept for the wedding. I think it will be amazing. Will be keeping up with your pj to see what you will be doing for the wedding.

Yeah! For starting a PJ...I thought I had missed it :rotfl: All the details look awesome! Love the Christmas Ornament...Where have I seen that before :)

Ooh I am loving your PJ so far!

How did you get a wedding consultant assigned so early on your planning? Please do let me know, we are planning a wishes VR and we would like to do it on Feb 2011, and also at the Wedding Pavilion and I am leaning towards White Hall as well.

Ideas for cakes:
I want the cake to appear chocolate covered on the outside, with strawberries draping the sides. I haven’t decided yet whether I want the strawberries to be covered in chocolate, or just plain.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Wedding%20Planning/ChocolateStrawberrySwirl.jpg
I like this Disney one, but it’s not quite the look I’m going for.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Wedding%20Planning/RoyalChocolate.jpg
I don’t mind this, but with strawberries instead of flowers.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Wedding%20Planning/P3120083.jpg
Sorta like this, but without the pattern on the cake… Maybe….

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Wedding%20Planning/grooms_cake.jpg
I like this, but I think it’s too messy for a wedding cake.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Wedding%20Planning/StrawberryShortcakeweddingCake_000.jpg
This one is nice too, but once again… Not quite right…

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Wedding%20Planning/Cake.jpg
I really like this one, it’s neat, it’s got the draped chocolate covered strawberries. It’s not milk chocolate covered, but it’s nice enough to make me have 2nd thoughts. I also think it would go with my cake topper, which a milk chocolate covered cake may not do…

You're ring is gorgeous!! Very original! The engagement party looked like it was a blast, I'm jealous :p I called yesterday afternoon to speak with someone and they basically told me to call back end of summer, as if I were calling too soon. :/ oh well, I'm inspired now so I'll try again tomorrow.

I've seen this absolutely gorgeous wedding dress that I want, but it's by a couturier (sp?) so I think that means it's a one of a kind dress, plus it means it's $$$$.

I can't find any photos of it online, not even on the couturier's website, but they use it as advertising in magazines and the like. I'll try and scan in a photo later, but right now it's driving me insane! :rotfl:

I suppose I could always email the company and see if the dress is available "off the rack" or even if they could tell me roughly how much it would cost to make for me...

I'm in a bit of trouble... We haven't started saving for our wedding yet, and I've now estimated that we need to be putting around $1000 a month away to make sure we've got the required amount by the required time  we're paying for the whole thing by ourselves, and I keep that in mind when I'm planning everything, but the other day I was on the phone to FMIL and she asked whether we we're all going thirds in the cost of it. I told her no, that Chris and I were paying for the wedding, we just wanted our family to be there. I have a really good relationship with her though, so we had a chuckle as I said, "so we're not asking for any money, donations on the other hand, will be happily accepted" :rotfl: That makes me breath a bit easier, knowing that there will possibly be help if we need it. However, I'm not going to budget in possible cash donations.

Yeah it is really nice, my parents would probably help out too, but I don't really want to ask because we're already asking them to travel so far for the wedding.

Here's a pic of the dress I love: (sorry, the pic is a bit big)

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Wedding%20Planning/MarkHolt.jpg

It's by Mark Holt Bridal here in Australia. I have no idea of the name of the dress, or anything, and the most similar dress on their website is really, nothing like it!

However, I want a ball gown, and I'm not quite sure if you could put a hoop or a crinnie under this to make it sit right, because it looks like it's supposed to be flowy and what not... :confused3

Ooooh I love the flowery detail on the dress it is stunning!

I have the same darned problem with my dress, according to the website it is under $2,500 :scared: under?! LOL

My DH minds the financial side of the whole thing, he has this extremely detailed spread sheet that he balances out every single day to calculate our budget. It even has graphs and whatnot. To be sincere it bores the living lights out of me, so I normally don't even ask what it means... I am sooo spoiled.

We are paying our own way through this shindig as well, we are used to doing everything ourselves, we put ourselves through college, etc. Once I moved out of home I never asked for a penny from my parents, I love them, and I know sometimes their budget is really tight, so I try to be kind on their wallets at all times.

DH has figured out the rate of our savings... still its gonna hurt to make those payments :rotfl2:

I generally do the budgeting side for us, and DF just complains that we never have enough :rotfl:

I guess it makes me feel a little more in control :confused3

The problem with wedding dresses in Oz, is that they're so much more expensive here then in the US. To begin with $2500 was my budget for my dress, and then I went and tried on a bunch while I was in Connecticut, and none of them were over $1000, so now I'm rethinking my budget.

Ok, so here's a small update:

I really like this dress from Alfred Angelo for my Bridesmaids.

And this suit for the groomsmen and Chris

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Wedding%20Planning/large_image.jpg
Not in this colour though. I'd have Chris in the white shirt, vest and tie, and the groomsmen in the gold.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Wedding%20Planning/MensWarehouse-Groom.jpg http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Wedding%20Planning/MensWarehouse-Groomsmen.jpg

Without the jackets.

I think the gold looks good in the picture, but I have a feeling that it might look a bit tacky when actually worn... So I might have to drag Chris around a few places and make him try some suits on...

Has anyone seen something similar actually worn?

Originally I wanted the dress in gold, but the closest they have to gold is Sunshine, and it just looks a little washed out, for what I want.

I love the latte colour too, it just seems to go with everyone's skin tone, and it's so pretty! I did consider the latte coloured vest and tie too, it's not out of the question yet either.

I've been looking into our honeymoon. We've decided on Mexico, and it looks like we'll be staying at an All Inclusive Resort in Puerto Morelos, near Cancun. I've never been to an all inclusive before, and I'm getting really excited about it! :dance3:

I explained it all to DF before, but last night we were driving home and we got to talking about it, the conversation went a bit like this:

DF: So what's all inclusive mean?
ME: It pretty much means that the price we pay for accommodation, pays for almost everything, food, drinks, non motorised water sports...
DF: So we have to eat at the hotel all the time?
ME: Yes, but there's 8 different restaurants, there's a Japanese restaurant, and a french restaurant, a mexican one, I think there's an Italian one. Plus there's room service.
DF(starting to like the sound of it): So could we eat at a restaurant, and then, order more food?
ME: Yep, you can eat until you puke if you want to.
DF: Surely they limit you or give you coupons to use or something?
ME: Nope, and there's a bar in your room set up like a shot dispenser!

I don't remember how the rest of the conversation went, but it ended with us being excited, and wanting to go now... :lmao:

So here's what I'm thinking so far:

Wedding Pavillion Ceremony at either 12pm or 2:30pm. Followed by a reception, most likely in the Whitehall room. Then hopefully a Wishes dessert party at Sago Cay Point. Depending on what time that finishes, we'll probably head to Jellyrolls.

Bridesmaids:
Melissa - Sister
Jess S - BF
Jess W - BF
Courtney - DF's Sister

Groomsmen:
Don - DF's BF
Michael - DF's BF
Jarrad - DF'S BF
Ben - DF's Brother

I'd prefer only 3 attendants, but DF jumped at asking as many people as possible as soon as we were engaged, without thinking about it. I think he has actually asked two more people then what are on that list... :sad2:

I will still most likely end up with 3 people (I haven't asked anyone yet, and I'll wait to see who's coming before I ask them.)

My Bridesmaid's will all be in the Alfred Angelo dress seen above, and I'll let them pick their own shoes.

The GM's will all be in matching tuxes with matching vests and ties. Not bowties, I don't like them.

I want Misty Miotto for my photographer, and I'll probably go with her 10 hour CD only package. I've already emailed her, and I know she has the 8th of March avail. now I'm thinking about changing to the 2nd though, it will all depend on what I get through Disney though.

I'm going to have the Ipod set up, as apposed to a DJ. I've never had much luck with DJ's.

I'm not too fussed about whether we have a buffet or a plated meal. I think I'd prefer a plated meal, but the price of a buffet cant be beat. DF will have the main say over the food. However we will be having Mr. & Mrs. Strawberries.

If possible we'll turn up at WDW about a week before the wedding, and do a tasting session popcorn:: we'll most likely be staying somewhere cheap or if the budget stretches, somewhere like POFQ or the mansions, just coz they look so nice, and I don't know when we'd ever get back, then we might move to the GF for the wedding and honeymoon part of our time at WDW, because it's close to everything that's going to be happening, and even if we do get the chance to come back, chances are we won't be able to afford to stay there.

If possible, I'll convince my family to rent a DVC villa, so there's lots of room for getting ready before the wedding, and I'd probably stay with them the night before the wedding. :bride: I'd like for us to keep with the tradition of not seeing each other before the wedding, no reason, except I think it's a cute tradition.

I'd like to get Chris the Richard Petty Experience for the Groom's gift. Tell him he's getting the $400 odd dollar experience, and suprise him with the really expensive experience.

Honeymooning in Peurto Morelos at Excellence Riviera Cancun, for 7 nights.

Not sure if I want videography, not sure what I want for flowers or what I'm doing with my hair... :scared1:

That's all I can think of at the moment... Let me sleep on it and see if I remember anything else...

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Wedding%20Planning/100_5308.jpg
On the back.

Here is the wording:

Yes, it’s true.
We’ve decided to get married at Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida!
And we would love for you to join us!
We do understand that this is a big ask, and that not everyone is going to be able to join us on our special day, that’s why we’re giving you as much notice as possible, and sending out as much information as we can, in hopes that you might just come along.
At this stage we’re hoping for a March 2011 wedding. Due to Disney restrictions, we’re unable to book an official date until 8 months before the wedding. In the mean time though, we’d like to give everyone as much notice and information as possible, so you can start saving and planning!

One of the best things about having a Disney Fairy Tale Wedding is that they really do a lot of the work for us! As one of the people invited to our wedding ceremony and Walt Disney World reception, you will be receiving a save-the-date directly from Disney sometime in July 2010. This save-the-date is actually a packet of information that will explain how to reserve rooms as a guest of our wedding. This will allow you to receive discounts on your hotel stay, park tickets, etc. Our guests will be able to book discounted rooms at their choice of three Walt Disney World resorts, and purchase discounted Disneyworld park tickets.

Because our wedding guests cannot officially book rooms under our wedding party until after they’ve received the save-the-dates, we encourage you to wait before making travel arrangements, in order to receive the discounts. Of course, you don’t have to book a room through our wedding and you definitely don’t have to stay on Disney property. However, we recommend Disney hotels, because transportation between the airport, the hotels, the parks, and the wedding chapel is very convenient (and free!) which means Disney hotel guests won’t need to rent a car.

So What’s Next? Start thinking about whether or not you’ll be making the trip to Florida. If you’re coming, but you’ve never been to Walt Disney World before, we strongly recommend getting a guide book!!! There’s a lot going on down in Orlando and it’s easy to be overwhelmed the first time around. A guide book will let you consider all of your options, especially when it comes to restaurants! People make reservations at Disney restaurants months in advance and if there’s a restaurant that you just have to eat at while you’re in Florida, we recommend booking those tables early!

We’ll send out our own Save-the-Date, as well as another newsletter around the same time that you’ll receive the Save-the-Date from Disney. The next newsletter will talk about travel options and other discounts that you may want to take advantage of as you plan your vacation. We will also give you the details of our wedding website, so you can keep up to date and you can check there for more information if you have questions. If you already know you won’t be joining us, or later decide that you won’t be able to make it after all, just let us know and we can take you off the mailing list.

Feel free to let me know your email address if you have one, so I can send all future letters there and save on paper.

We hope you can join us one way or another as we celebrate! Thanks for all the love and support!

Love Chris & Bec.

Thank you to all the Disney brides that I’ve plagiarised from! I wouldn’t have known where to start without you! :rotfl:

I will too use your newsletter as inspiration :lmao:
I have started talking to my guests about coming to our VR, they seem rather receptive, overall since a lot of them live in FL, (thank goodness!), my parents aren't sounding too thrilled about the whole thing, but then again it is like pulling teeth to get them to visit me and they only have done so after I spent months in recovery after the hospital.

oh i like what you have written!! its everything you need to let the guests know and to the point!

I might just *cough cough, ahem... borrow a little bit from you! heheh!!!!

Wonderful!!!:thumbsup2

I will too use your newsletter as inspiration :lmao:
I have started talking to my guests about coming to our VR, they seem rather receptive, overall since a lot of them live in FL, (thank goodness!), my parents aren't sounding too thrilled about the whole thing, but then again it is like pulling teeth to get them to visit me and they only have done so after I spent months in recovery after the hospital.

Still I will keep insisting, it is imperative they make it!

Steal away! I will feel much better about my stealing if I know other people are stealing from me! :rotfl:

More and more people are getting excited about my wedding, which I think is great when I'm talking to them, and then I get home and start working out how much this is going to cost us!

 Oh well, it's my fault for inviting them all because I didn't think they'd come!

The newsletter is perfect ... I think it gets the right balance of "we'd love you to come" and "we're doing this anyway" :lmao:

2011 will come round really, really fast! You'll enjoy your planning all the more now that your plans are 'out there' and other people are begining to get excited too.:yay:

Yeah, I'm actually getting worried about how fast it's coming. We haven't actually started saving yet, so as each week (or month as the case may be) passes by, I have to recalculate how much we need to put away each week to make sure we reach our goal! :lmao:

So I think I may have found my shoes...

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/BecBennett/Wedding%20Planning/LilyRoseGigiCrystalsIvory.jpg

I love them and I think they're gorgeous, and they're just right, all except for one thing - I wanted gold shoes, and I mean gold - so you look at them and say "yes, that colour is gold." The one's pictured are Champagne, which is that little bit too light, you can also get a coffee like colour, which is really nice, but still not gold...

So, I don't know whether to get them and think about it, because I'd probably still wear them every now and then anyway. Or if I should just keep looking, because I already have wedding shoes in a champagne colour... I got them to go with another wedding dress, which I explain shortly :rolleyes1

So what does everyone think?

I adore the shoes :yay: hmmm - they definitely are not gold though but, as my daughter says, a girl can never have too many shoes!! How about wearing these for the ceremony, and then swapping into something gold for the reception (dancing) and/or beach shots (sandals)??

You can always recalculate the budget again from next month .... :rolleyes1

The newsletter is fantastic!! Makes me wish I had a reason (or excuse even! Lol) to do one! :upsidedow As far as shoes go, if you're having doubts about the ones you already have then maybe they're not THE shoes for your big day! Besides, the ones you just posted are super cute. ;)

I love the newsletter, it reminds me of a scroll which would have been used for announcements hundreds of years ago but more modern of course.

I also love the shoes but you have plenty of time to find the gold shoes you really want before the wedding. Also, if you buy those shoes would you really wear them? I know I would keep them in a box until the wedding day so they couldn't get damaged :scared1:

You could set up an automatic transfer to your savings account every month, it is amazing how quickly your savings build up and you hardly notice the money disappearing!

The reason I already have a pair, is because they go with the dress I already have  ok I'll explain a little. When I was in the US in May, I went dress shopping. I was amazed at the prices, so dirt cheap compared to anything we have here. I tried on a dress and fell in love with it. It was gorgeous, but not what I wanted for my wedding dress, because it was so cheap though, I couldn't leave the store without it. So I bought it, and the matching shoes and hand bag. Now I've known from the beginning that it wasn't going to be my wedding dress - unless I simply can not find another one that I like - it was always going to be my At Home Reception dress, so the shoes and the bag were always going to be my at home reception accessories. However, I can't really justify buying more wedding shoes unless they are exactly what I want, because the AHR shoes will match any dress anyway, so there's really no reason to spend more money, on more shoes... :confused3

I think I will... Maybe I'll buy these shoes in black as just going out shoes...

That is usually what I do, but at the moment our auto transfer is paying off our credit cards from our last trip  They'll be paid off soon, and the money can start going into the wedding fund...

Oooh such cute shoes!!!

I have a friend who is a complete shoe-a-holic on the lookout for mine. I too want golden shoes, or a very specific shade of blue.
I am not a girly girl and I have zero balance so I need short heels of just flats.

I know what you mean about clothing prices in Europe. I lived in Spain most of my life and whenever we made it to the US on holiday we would always bring extra empty suitcases to load them up with clothes! :rotfl:

Does anyone have pictures of blokes wearing a tux similar to the one that I want DF to wear? By that I mean a black jacket and pants, and a white shirt, tie and vest?

I've got the picture that I posted earlier, but I want pictures of it on people, DF doesn't really like it, because he thinks you wouldn't be able to see the tie and vest, but I know you can and now I just need to prove it to him :rotfl:

I think I've decided that I'm going to have the groomsmen in white shirts instead of the black shirts, but everything else the same - gold vest and tie - I think it's the safer way to go. I'll post a pic later today.

I haven't contacted any companies, but is anyone able to tell me roughly how much it costs to rent a suit, as apposed to buying one?

Oh, and I found a seller on ebay, who has a dress shop, who has told me that she could sell me the Alfred Angelo BM dress for $110 each, plus postage. I think this is pretty good because the dress at my local wedding shop is $270AU. and $110 in AU$ is around $140... So I know that it's better to buy it from her, then from here, but does anyone know of someone that sells them cheaper? I mean the real dresses too, not knock offs.

TIA.

Great job on the garter! I'm so impressed, what did you use on the inside of it?

I would wait a little bit on the shoes. I know what you mean, while it would be nice to have fantastic wedding shoes, do I really need to spend the extra money on them? I just got a pair of silver shoes I'm going to wear to DF's sister's wedding, I figure if they are comfortable, I'll just wear them to my wedding too. Then they'll already be broken in. Have you tried zappos or shoebuy? They are online sites that have a ton of shoes, in the US they have free shipping and returns, not sure if it is the same internationally but I always order a few pairs and return the ones I don't want, it's awesome!

I like the new groomsmen outfits, the black on black was a little dark and I think the gold goes better with the white.

Congrats on finding the BM dresses so cheap! Have you looked at them in person anywhere? I just ask because I really liked an Alfred Angelo dress for my BM's but when I saw the dress in person it didn't look the same at all and it was super cute on their website. Not to stress you out and it was not the dress you picked, but I would hate for you to get the dresses and then not be able to return them if you didn't like them.

Thanks, I basically just sewed a fat ribbon in half, and fed through some elastic that was shorter then the ribbon, then I put the ends together and sewed it all up. Really easy!

I think I've decided that I will wait on the shoes, it's just so rare that I find shoes that I like, so when I do find a pair I think "omigod! Buy them quick!" :rotfl:

I've seen similar suits to the black and gold before, and it looked pretty hot, but then I saw a wedding party locally that had all black with white ties, and I couldn't stop thinking how tacky it looked, then I realised that it was pretty close to what I'd picked! :lmao: The gold on the white is really growing on me now, so I think I'm happy with it.

They've got the Alfred Angelo dress in a local dress shop here, it's just what I want, but the price here was just a little over the top  So I was happy to find them cheaper!

I mentioned previously about having already bought a dress, the reason for that is because while over in Connecticut in May, I wandered into a David's Bridal and tried on a few dresses.

I fell completely in love wth one dress, but knew it wasn't going to be my wedding dress for 2 reasons:

I wanted a ball gown or A line gown

My mum would kill me if I bought my wedding dress, without first taking her dress shopping :rotfl:

But on the other side of it, I loved this dress, and I'm from a place where wedding dresses are roughly 4 times the price of this dress

So I bought it :goodvibes

Your dress is beautiful! When it's the one, it's the one, and it's even better when you can get a deal.

Wow that is a lot for tuxes! Is that what they normally cost? I feel like you probably could buy one for close to that, but then does your DF really need a tux? Tough call.

BecBennett
08-21-2009, 09:42 AM
To be honest if that's roughly what it costs to buy the tux, we'd probably buy DF's and let the groomsmen decide if they'd prefer to rent or buy. DF could do with a new tux/suit that was made for him.

For his grandmother's funeral at the beginning of the year, we had to get an old suit he'd had in his cupboard for ages altered so it would fit him. It was still a little short in the legs and snug around the waist...

I've never actually priced a tux or a suit before, but after my friends wedding where they rented them all, I think I assumed they were at least around the $300 mark to buy :confused3

You know what they say when we assume though...

Just found out from DF, who found out from FFIL who found out off FSMIL (step mother in law ) that my shoes and handbag still haven't arrived at the DB where I ordered them, so that's why I haven't received them here yet!

So, FSMIL is going to go abuse them this week, and find out why they're taking so long. :rotfl:

On a side note, I'm looking forward to this weekend, it's my sister's birthday, so my mum and I are taking her away for a weekend to a little coastal town, where we're going to spend a day at a day spa being pampered and what not.

I'm getting an oxy facial, a swedish massage, a scalp massage, a brow shaping and an eyelash tint, the package that I'm getting also includes a foot massage, but I'm going to try and swap it out for something... I have something against people touching my feet :rotfl:

I might see if I can get my makeup done, and get pictures taken of it if I like how it turns out.

So DF and I started discussing stuff again. He has said that he wants us to pay for the groomsmen and bridesmaid's clothes :headache: Every wedding I've ever been in I've paid for my own clothes, hair and makeup... Every wedding he's been in - (one) he's had his suit and shoes bought for him, so that means we have to pay for our attendants...

Now I always thought that if we could afford to do this we would, but that it would be a nice added bonus for them... Now DF has decided that we can't ask them to be our attendants, and expect them to pay for anything... I think I'm more annoyed by this because we're both going to be in a wedding party in April, and I know we'll be paying for our own clothes (and hair and makeup for me) so if I hadn't brought it up until after then, he may have had a different opinion on it :sad2: maybe I'll just leave it for now, and try bringing it up with him around then...

Hmmmm DH had to rent his own tux for his brother's wedding, and he has been a groomsman before and had to rent his tux each and every time. My BIL offered to pay for our room when we went to their wedding, but we graciously declined since we know a wedding is very expensive.

I can see your DF's side, I mean if a bunch of the attendants there have been former grooms or brides that have paid for his tux I can see how he would feel uncomfortable making them pay for theirs.

I also see your point, and it might def break the bank being a destination wedding and all.

Maybe you two need to sit down and draw exact budget figures and see on black and white how much the tuxes and dresses will cost for the attendants.

This is one of the reasons why we decided to not have any attendants for our do-over, we didn't want to force people to buy or rent an specific outfit and we cannot afford buying everybody an outfit, so off the attendant idea went.

BecBennett
08-27-2009, 04:40 AM
Yeah, I'd happily not have any one, I could let one of them be our whitness and let the other organise the hens night, because really that's all they'll be doing any way, and then they could wear what they want to the wedding, and no one hs to pay for anything, but DF must have as many groomsmen as possible... He'd probably have every male we're inviting standing up there if I hadn't put my foot down :rotfl: and I know that if DF has groomsmen, my friends and sister would be extremely offended if I didn't also have them... :confused3

I might need to show DF our budget and see if that helps... lol, wait, that made it sound like he has no say in anything money wise... Well he does, he just doesn't understand that a bouquet costs around $200-$300 so he doesn't see where our $20 000 budget has gone...

malibustacey
08-27-2009, 07:23 AM
In the UK the bridesmaids usually have to pay for their own dresses... its a hard choice to make isnt it - because it would make the costs add up very qucikly having to buy for groomsmen and bridesmaids.

Like you said, perhaps its best to sit down and plan out the budget stuff for the wedding first, see how you go with that then you will be able to decide whether you can afford to pay for the attire for the rest of the wedding party.

Oh and i love your dress, its stunning- i love the back of it! You know when its the one- you dont want to take it off! (oh and i love the big princessy dress too hehe i have seen that one advertised on Davids bridal) hehe. Yay isnt it great when you get your dress!??

BecBennett
08-27-2009, 08:35 PM
Usually bridesmaid's pay for their own stuff here too, but just my luck, the one wedding DF was in, was for a generous couple who paid for their attendants...
Df isn't having the groom from that wedding as one of his groomsmen, so maybe there's room for convincing yet...
I've been trying not to say anything about it, so he'd either forget, or so he wouldn't have a chance to take a really strong stance on it - because I know if he does that there'd be no changing his mind! - but I couldn't help it, last night I slipped out that if we were paying for their clothes then we'd only have 2 each, he didn't like that either, but I just felt like I had to say something!

On a different - slightly ranting side - I'm getting problems from one person I really thought I never would - my sister! Originally she was going to be one of my bridesmaids, and my best friend was going to be my MOH (I was hers a few years back too, it was always the plan) but my sister has assumed from the get go, that she'd be the MOH, this was ok though, because by having a maid of honour and a matron of honour, DF would be able to have 2 best men, because he couldn't decide between his two good friends, we'd just have different jobs for each of them - whitnesses, hen's night and bucks party organisers, speech givers and so on. No big deal.
Then when explaining to my sister the colour of the bridesmaid dresses I wanted she said "I always pictured myself in blue..." like she expected me to change my whole wedding colours just so she could wear blue! I just pretended that I thought she was joking and laughed and said, well you'll look lovely in a blue wedding dress at your wedding!
Now, she's not married, not engaged or planning a wedding or anything, she's been to a few weddings, but never been in any, she very well may have looked up certain things and the like, but yesterday she started giving me grief that we're having a destination wedding and not paying for everyone's flights and accom!!
This was never an option, and we never pretended that it could be an option, after a bit of an argument about the correct ettiquette for destination weddings I ended it with "If people want to be at our wedding they will be, if they dont want to then they wont go" and left it at that, but then that coupled with DF's thoughts on attendants reminded me of when I asked her what she thought about paying $140AU for the bridesmaid dresses, he answer was "That's pretty reasonable for a long dress" after reminding her what the dress looked like (tea length one pictured earlier) she was pretty dismissive and said "I'm sure you'll pick out a lovely dress for me to wear" :headache: I'm pretty sure I may have snapped something like "Yes, that one!" back at her, but I don't remember :rolleyes1 anyway, it's got me to thinking that because she's never been in a wedding before, she most likely doesn't know what's expected of her in the way of what she needs to pay for...
So my thoughts are, over this weekend I'll speak to my mum alone and see what she thinks, and maybe she can mention to my sister that the bridesmaid's pay their own way the whole way, so she knows that it's not just me being a tight ****... That way if we do buy the dresses and tuxes she'll know it's not the norm and we've done something nice for her, and the next time she's in a wedding party she'll know what to expect....

Ok, rant over. I do love my sister and we spend a lot of time together, but I just think that her thoughts on my wedding are a little twisted...

Oh and you know another thing that annoys me! I'm sick of people telling me when we should have our wedding so it suits them! FFIL wants us to have it late March/April so his kids are on school holidays, and they live in the US, so they have it the easiest already! FMIL wants us to have it on the 10th of March, so it will make her holidays easier to organise, :headache: DF's aunty wants us to get married next year, because they're already going to be in the US then! I'm just going to say that the 2nd of March is the only day we could book our photographer, and leave it at that!

I rarely get stressed, and really I don't think I'm stressed now, but sometimes you just have to let it all out to complete strangers! :lmao:

Oh deary dear. I know how you feel I am having issues with my party as well. I don't know if there are duties for MOH (I know there are...I just don't know them) but i'm SURE my MOH will not have anything to do with them hahahaha. She also said to me "Oh i'm sure I will like the dress, just as long as its not like yellow or something!" :rotfl2: so I feel you on the whole MOH issue headache. blah. I also am pretty sure she doesn't realize she is paying for her dress!

I am also having the whole "you should get married on this date" thing. My friend was angry at me last night because my wedding is too close to her b-day! My other friend who will be in Australia at the time asked me why couldn't I wait til July. People are crazy! and totally don't understand weddings. Best of luck dealing with everyones "issues". Its YOUR day and everyone will have to work it out so they can make it. Thats should not be your problem.

hope everything works out!

Hey! Did I mention that you are getting married on my b-day? :rotfl2:
I might even be at WDW then to celebrate with friends.

Don't let the demands of the family get to you, it is good to rant to help with it though. I understand that asking to make a trip across the big pond is a big imposition, but truly it ISN'T mandatory and you won't send the firing squad to them if they can't make it.

I have already prepared myself mentally and emotionally for all the whining I will have to listen to at first, but I know I will have to be sweet but firm with them, after all I love everybody I am inviting.

I guess I have it easy since we have already been married for 10 whole years and pre-established ourselves as very independent from both our families. They know we'll do it regardless or what they say and that we will do it when we want to do it. If they can't make it, no biggie, we won't be upset, we will dearly miss them of course and we'll make sure to send photos and tell them all about it later.

I just would never dream of telling someone how and when or where to hold their wedding :confused3 it is their day, and if I don't like it or can't wing it, then I won't, what's the drama?

Maybe you need to sit with your sister and have your mom mediate, just explain to her how things are normally done and tell her that you truly appreciate her being there after all is said and done.

I find myself nearly apologizing to everybody I invite before I even start explaining all about the VR.

I hope I never hear myself apologise to someone because they can't make it to my wedding... That just seems wrong... :sad2:

We have the same quandry about suits. It would be expensive to hire in the US and UK (for the home reception) but if we bought we would be restricted to a colour they would all wear again! I never expected the mens' clothes to be the problem :confused3

I'd probably only have two teirs though, in pale gold - with 1-2 shades darker gold on the frilly bits. I'd have the cake stand (you know the flat cardboardy ones) also covered in fondant so I could have the frilly things at the edge of it too, and where the white flowers are, I'd replace them with a strawberry dipped in chocolate

So, what does every one think? I can picture it in my head, but things usually turn out different to how I've got them pictured, so tell me if you can see it in your head too :rotfl:

:lmao: I kept going back to your PJ to stare at it, so maybe after the 4th visit, I decided it was worth my while to save a copy of the pic

At least your wedding is before mine, so if we both do go with it, there should be just enough time between our weddings, that not too many people start seeing the similarities :rotfl:

Great cake, I can just picture it in gold.

I know! I can too, unfortunately either DF has a terrible imagination, or just terrible taste  I tried to explain it to him, and I think he's picturing a bright, dark, metalic yellow gold, and that's not what I'm thinking at all, so I found other wedding cakes in the colour that I want and showed him, so he could see what I was talking about, but the cakes I showed him were just plain gold, and no more decoration, so his thought's were that it was going to be too plain... I flicked through a few more gold coloured cakes, and found one with swirls all over it, and he told me that it looked better, more too it...

So in conclusion, I don't think he can picture that cake in gold, or if he can, he thinks it needs added swirls... :scared1:

I'm not going to discuss anything with him any more :lmao: I'm going to tell him what to get dressed into, and when to turn up and I think that will do!

On another note, we looked into some exotic car rentals in Florida, because neither of us are too keen on either the rolls or the ford - and neither of the coaches grab me either...

So, we're looking into perhaps getting a lamborghini or a maserati for the day :woohoo: It looks like price wise, we'd be looking at around $1000 - $1500 for the day, and that includes free delivery. It doesn't include insurance, which we'd need to get, but it's just a thought at the moment.

Has any one else thought about hiring outside cars?

Bleh, it feels like every update I post is a mini rant!

I was telling FMIL about the songs that I want for our Ceremony. Now I haven't set anything in stone yet, and I don't plan on it for a while, but I mentioned to her that I'd like something along the lines of The Rainbow Connection, just instrumental and played on something like a harp as I walk down the aisle. It's very me, and it's a beautiful song. But no, according to FMIL that's very tacky and I must have Cannon in D... "save the Disney songs for the reception" :headache: I'm not going to have any Disney songs at the reception, unless either Chris, my dad or I decide we want them for a traditional dance. I'm pretty sure we wont...

I almost wasn't going to post this, because it's really trivial, and I'm not going to take her advice regardless of what she says, and DF is behind me 100%.

She's a piano teacher if you can't tell... And I'm clearly just a pleb when it comes to music. I don't remember all that clearly, because I pretty much stopped listening to her at one stage, but I'm pretty sure she said that I should leave the music up to her and DF... Umm, no... :rotfl:

Ok, rant over. Next time I promise I will update with something worth while...

Some people :furious: I mean even if any of us did pick something tacky that is our choice as its our wedding. Cannon D is lovely but everyone has that. We've picked Disney weddings because we want something a bit different and not average.

Ah vent away Bec, vent away, let it all out, it's the best thing to do.
People always want to give their two cents on everything. From your family on your personal life to co-workers on your work projects.

If it isn't the songs to play on your wedding it is the food, if it isn't the food, it's the drinks, if it isn't the drinks it is the colors, if not that, then the theme, if not the theme, then the location, if not the location then the date, and on and on and on and on.

After that they'll try and ask why you painted your sitting room walls one color instead of another and when you have kids they will want to back seat drive your parenting route.

It's part of life, and a wedding is great training :rotfl:, listen to their suggestions and if they are not in line with what you had in mind or unpractical just let them know you appreciate their input but things will be done your way. End.

Everybody and their grandma uses Cannon D, my grandma used it and my mom used it and so did everybody else I know apart from a handful that used the "here comes the bride" cliche march. Nothing wrong with it, but you are going for unique, so off with Cannon D! (A beautiful piece nonetheless, but the poor thing is getting dragged up every single aisle nowadays :rotfl:)

Hang in there and come and vent here any time :flower3: even silly problems can amount to a lot if you don't get them out of your chest and let them pile up, better out than in.

Thanks everyone :goodvibes

I don't care too much, but it feels good to b*tch about it

So anyway, I've officially started my diet, I've joined Calorieking and it's free, which is good.

My starting weight is 62kg, and coincidentally happens to be my current weight too :rotfl: and my ideal weight is 53kg. To be honest I'm not too concerned with losing weight because my BMI is fine, it's just toning up that I mainly want to do.

I started a medication at the beginning of the year, and just packed the weight on - as much as 10 extra kilos is packing weight on :lmao: and I'm finally off it, and onto one that doesn't mess with my hormones as much, so it's time to get back to how I picture myself.

I went to the gym with my sister today and it was really good, and I know I should go more often, but I don't like the idea of spending money on things that I could probably be doing for free - walking, running, cycling etc. and I had a gym membership before and never went  so I can't imagine myself buying another one...

I will think about it though... I'll keep going as long as my sister keeps the free passes up to me:lmao:

BecBennett

Just a small inconsequential update.

Next April I'm going to be a bridesmaid for a friend's wedding. Last weekend we went bridesmaid dress shopping and found the style of dress she wanted for us. It's a beautiful dress and looks lovely! The only problem is... She wanted to get it in Chocolate :scared1:

To be honest I didn't really care, because her and her fiance are the only people who will be at their wedding, who are invited to ours, and they probably wont be able to make it any way. So I wasn't too concerned.

However, she sent me a msg a day or too ago to ask me what I thought about the yellow colour - which was the colour I was trying on. I told her it looked really pretty, and I personally didn't think it would make the photos look bad - she was originally concerned with the yellow clashing with her dress, which is technically champagne, but has a slight pink tinge to it.

So looks like now she's changing to yellow, instead of chocolate, and it was only after she said that, that I realised I did sort of care that she had wanted to use chocolate...

It would mean that she'd want chocolate matched into her table linens, and everything! Our weddings could end up looking very similar... But now she's not having it, so it's ok!

pezaddict231
09-17-2009, 10:39 PM
It's okay to care a little if her wedding looked similar to yours. I'm glad she decided to go with a different color too. I can definitely sympathize with wanting your wedding to be different from others that you've been to. ;)

Ok, so here's some things that I wouldn't call updates... But I thought I'd put them in...

We started considering changing from the Whitehall room to the Napa room, I've been reading through the Napa vs White hall thread, and the view is just awesome, so I got a copy of the menus from Joe and we had a look through them. I didn't like them, but I gave them to DF to look through, as he is technically in charge of the food and drinks... He didn't mind the menus, but when it came down to it, he prefered to be able to pick everything on the menu and have a different location then to have a set menu and have that location...

That started us looking at all available reception spaces - outside the parks - I like ariels, but I don't like the fish on the ceiling, and I don't mind the Atlantic Dance hall, but there's something about it that makes me think "Town Hall" I think it's the stage... So we'll probably stick to a small ballroom like thing...

So we're back to the whitehall room. I think it's prettier inside anyway.

Our AU$ is pretty good at the moment, so we're thinking about booking Misty. Maybe paying a lump sum above the deposit just to get it out of the way.

I've also made a "To Do" list which I'll post in the next post, it's pretty long... So you'll all need to go through it and tell me what I've missed...

I'll be adding in things like Dress fitting and the like once I pick my dress, but because I haven't yet I don't know at what stage I'll need to book these in for...

I think I'd like to go see Avenue Q. I don't like the fact that you can see the pupeteers and that they don't hide the fact that they're who are controling the pupets, but I've heard it's supposed to be really funny.

Napa Room is beautiful and the food is really good at Cali Grill, but if you have some picky eaters in your group they may not like it. You can also see the Castle from Whitehall Patio.

I know what you mean, I like Ariel's except for those fish chandeliers. I did like Atlantic Dance Hall but DF didn't, so that was out. I personally love the Whitehall room and wish we could have used it but we have too many people. We're going to have our pre-reception there though.

I do have a lot of picky eaters on my in-law side, so that could be a problem there, but man what a view.

Still White Hall was beautiful and if you see my PJ the monorail passes right over the patio which I think is pretty cool AND you can see the castle's top too.

:rotfl: Just coz I've written the to do list doesn't mean I've done anything! Actually it was Df's idea, b/c he has no idea what's involved in planning a wedding, and I don't really either, so I scouted around all of the wedding to do lists, and used DFTW's timeline and came up with that... Now I've got to work on ticking things off... Maybe I'll give DF a page and tell him to take care of it...

I really like the Napa room too, but I really wanted to be able to say "first I want us to eat this, and then that followed by some of this..." I don't want someone to be saying to me "Ok, first you'll have this and then that and then we'll bring you some of this" That's what happens when you go to someone elses wedding, I shouldn't have to do it at mine. :sad2: I'm a picky eater, and while I'm sure I could find a meal that I'd be more then happy with at the Cali grill, I don't like any of the menu's right through.

Well that's not true, I'm at work until lunch time today, then I'm going to the races. It's Melbourne Cup day here, which is a horse race that "stops the nation" it's pretty true, come 3pm no work is done and everyone tunes in to watch a horse race.

So I'm all dressed up at work, wasting time until it's time to go... It's also my mum's birthday, so we're taking her to a nice lunch first, then onto the gambling!!

It should be a really nice day, and I'll post pics if I take any...

Bah! :headache: I wanted to book Misty yesterday and DF has asked me not to, because he doesn't know enough about it... :confused3

I'm really confused... and slightly annoyed... because I've been going through everything with him for months, and I must have been talking to a brick wall!! Now when I've told him I need his signature, his ears have perked up and he's not so sure :rotfl:

I asked him about a year ago, when we first got engaged, what the most important thing about the wedding was for him, he said food, and I told him mine was photography, so we agreed that we wouldn't skimp on either of them at all, both would be exactly what we want and no compromising... He's not too concerned about booking Misty, he understands I want her as my photographer and that's it, but what he doesn't understand is that what we would be paying for them is really quite reasonable, and he believes that paying for her, would mean that we couldn't afford a MK shoot, even though I've gone through the budget, and yes we could, we could with no problems... :sad2:

I think he's just getting worried about booking anything, because he hasn't been paying enough attention to know what's going on, and what is included in wedding planning, so last night I dumped a heap of wedding magazines and planners on his lap and said "If you don't want to take my word for it, then read that!" and stormed off... I was a little angry because I've done budgets for us for years, for when we first moved in together, for when we bought our house, for both times we've been on international holidays, and every time I've dnoe them, he's just taken my word for it, but for some reason he just cant come to terms with the fact that I know we can afford this...

He has a motorbike in our garage worth the same as our wedding is going to cost, and he's worried that what I'm planning might be a bit extravagent for heavens sake!!! He doesn't even ride it!!!

Ok, rant over, I just don't get what's stopping him from making these decisions, when really in the scheme of things they're quite small decisions to make! :confused3

Ok, back to your regularly scheduled program... :lmao:

If you're concerned about picky eaters, definitely do WHR, I'm pretty sure in a ballroom you can basically have whatever you want. I really love the WHR too, I think it's so pretty and we love the GF.

Aww, sorry your DF was giving you some grief about the photography. I think it really is one of the most important aspects of the wedding because you'll want to have good pics to remember it by. That's what you'll have after the day is over. And plus, since it's at Disney, I'm sure you have some people that won't be able to attend and you'll want to show them pics. I know, it's like he's biding his time until I'm signing the cheque or something, pfft, men!

Yeah the view at Cali Grill is awesome! I actually really like the look of the WHR, but when I saw the view from Cali Grill it really got me thinking, you just cant have that view anywhere else, if you're going to have a Disney Wedding, you might as well be able to see the park. But one of the main things I love about DFTW's is that you can create "your" wedding, not just pick from a few options, you can do that anywhere... So I think we're sticking with the WHR.

If you're concerned about picky eaters, definitely do WHR, I'm pretty sure in a ballroom you can basically have whatever you want. I really love the WHR too, I think it's so pretty and we love the GF.

 Tell me about it! I know that we will book Misty, no problem there, but I really wanted to have the MK shoot too, so I've still got to wear him down on that!

I think I've learnt that age old rule about negotiating though, first offer has to be something outragous that you don't really want, and then work back to what you want from there. So I told DF that I wanted a photographer for the rehearsal dinner, a MK shoot, Misty for the wedding, and then a honeymoon/trash the dress shoot while in Mexico... :rotfl: I think he's now quite open to having just Misty for the wedding, and a MK shoot. :woohoo:

Ok I'm finally caught up! I love the to-do list...However, it's starting to make me worry! There is so much to do for our Disney wedding...YIKES!

Ahh, you'll be fine! Just consider your legal wedding as your dress rehearsal, you wont need to worry about getting a marriage certificate, and I don't know, but I'd imagine that the nerves wont be there for the Disney wedding.

I can almost tick one whole thing off my to-do list - booking the photographer :hippie: I'll get there soon!

So I had one of those frantic wedding dreams last night. Aren't they fun? :lmao:

Basically it started with us all out shopping, my family, DF and I. We got "home" from shopping - I say "home" because it wasn't my home, but it was our home base, however we had ALL of our stuff there.

I flipped out a little, because DF and I are planning on spending the night before the wedding away from each other, and it was as we came home that someone said "well, we better start getting ready for this wedding" and I was very annoyed that no one reminded me of the date... :lmao: I got over that soon enough and started getting ready, this was my second flip out. I'd only organised for the wedding, what I've actually organised in real life... I've booked Misty, and I have an At Home Reception Wedding Dress. That's all that was organised in the dream...

So I get my dress on, and sort of sit around trying to work out what I'm going to do with nothing else organised... Misty can do my makeup, because I know she does it, I'll just go with a basic hair do, we - for some reason - have lots of plastic chairs at our hotel/home so we set them up out in the yard - not having organised the wedding pavilion  and figure we can get photos there if no ones there.

Misty turns up - I've never met or seen a pic of Misty, I just know she's blond, so a blond woman that I've decided must be what Misty looks like turns up and actually cant do makeup. No worry, not the worse thing that's happened.

There's a bit of a blank spot here, however what I remember next is sitting at a badly made up table in a big ball room/conference room and some random person is making a speech about us... :rotfl:

Next we do the photos, and for some reason we're walking along a train track (not like a Disney train track :sad2:) taking photos at random spots along the way, and random kids keep running up and getting in our photos, which I'm not happy about, because I don't like kids... :rotfl2:

That's about all of the dream that I remember, the funniest thing about it though, is the fact that I wasn't upset at all during it, just a little disapointed at times. Which, I've decided means that my wedding day is not going to be a stressfull affair, and I'm just going to roll with the punches. :teacher:

Hopefully when things get a bit hectic I'll remember to read over this post and remind myself nothings ever as bad as weird cryptic dreams can be! :lmao:

Lol, well, all our invitees arn't web enabled, so I do have to print some, however I only have to do them in English... thank goodness!! :rotfl:

Yes! I got so lucky with the web-enabled bit! I called my mom today to ask her about the newsletter and if she thought it would be fine to leave that one part electronic and she was very supportive of the idea so Yay!

I can't believe January is about to be halfway done. Before you know it we will be on our year marks!

I know! It's crazy! I've got so much coming up this year that it's just going to fly by so quickly!! Makes me nervous just thinking about it!

Am I the only person who searches for other weddings in their colours, and then gets torn about not finding any??

I really want to see what my wedding is going to look like colourwise, but I really like the idea of thinking that I'm the only person who's done my colours!! :rotfl:

I just thought, I don't think I've shown a picture of the shoes that are coming with my dress.

They're still not here... :sad2: But they'll make it eventually... :rotfl:

I'm planning a trip to the closest place that sells Maggie Dresses, it's three hours away, but that's ok, we'll make a weekend of it, and spend a lot of time shopping... I miss shopping, it tends to take a back seat though when all my funds are sent straight to the wedding account

I can't wait to hear about your shopping excursion.
My shopping has taken a back seat now, getting other things done, like saving :lmao: and getting other things in order for the wedding.

Next week it will be my 1 year mark and I am oh so very excited about it! Yours is just a little bit more away! :wizard:

Oooh those shoes will be perfect with your dress. I love the sparkle on them.

I definitely hear you on the shopping... I did find a loophole where I let myself buy wedding related things though.

Ooh I hope you can take some pics of the Maggie dresses and I hope they have some of the new ones!

I need the help of any Simpson's fans - or googlers

I'm after a screen shot from the Itchy and Scratchy Land episode, I want a picture of all the kids pushed against the glass in the ball pit, so I can add it to my newsletter.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated!

I've almost finished my newsletter (so far it's 12 pages and I think there's another 2 pages to go :lmao:) I don't really want to post it out until April/May so I can give people a date, so hopefully that will give me enough time to work out the best way to compress it for emails and print it for posting.

I can either post pics of it when it's done, or email out copies of it to any one who's interested.

I've also got to send out the Save The Dates and I'm not sure if I should be doing that now or after the newsletter. I'm thinking now b/c one of DF's cousins is thinking about setting their wedding date in March 2011, and that's just not allowed :scared1:

BecBennett

Yeah, I might get them printed and send them now. Most people know when we're doing it, b/c we've already sent out one newsletter, explaining that we want March 2nd 2011, but can't book it yet, so it's not like it will be a suprise for them :confused3

I'm not too concerned, I really only want a small wedding, so people can pull out if they want

I actually printed some STD's last night on photo paper, and stuck magnets on them. I had them sitting on the kitchen bench to show DF when he got home, he was home for maybe 10 minutes and he managed to spill water on them :rotfl: some people just aren't meant to have anything to do with wedding planning!!

I just realised I haven't posted my STD's (giggle)

I ended up ordering them, instead of trying to print them myself. It only cost me $16 to get 60 of them, now I've just got to find some nice envelopes to send them out in.

I got my STD's and they look awesome! I'm really happy I paid for them to be printed as apposed to doing it at home, they've come out a lot crisper and clearer then what I could ever do! :thumbsup2

DF and I spent last night sticking magnets to the back of them. They're currently pressed underneath some large heavy books to make sure the glue sticks, and to flatten them out. :rotfl:

However I now have a slight dilema... I've found envelopes that I can post them out in, but they will cost me more then double the price of the STDs... I don't really want to pay a heap of money for them, because I'm going to have to post them as well... My sister suggested that I send them as postcards, which I didn't want to do, b/c I didn't think it would "present" as nicely when they get them - if you know what I mean...

So, what would you suggest? Keep looking for cheaper envelopes? Or turn them into post cards??

pezaddict231
02-10-2010, 08:03 PM
very cute Save the Dates! I would look for cheaper envelopes. We used postcards as our Pre-RSVP cards and we got them back in varying conditions, one was even torn completely in half . The post office also stamps them sometimes or they get a little dirty so as long as it's not astronomical I would send them out in envelopes, it'll just make for better presentation. :thumbsup2

BecBennett
02-11-2010, 09:48 PM
I found envelopes!! They're not special, but I'll print something nice on them.

They cost me more then I wanted to pay for them, but they're prepaid, so now I don't have to worry about hand delivering some to save on money. Just drop them in the post and let them do their thing!

pezaddict231
02-11-2010, 10:46 PM
yay for finding some envelopes. I know it stinks to have to spend money on that sort of thing, but I'm sure you can jazz them up and your guests will enjoy it and it's great that they're prepaid so you don't need to worry about that.

BecBennett
02-12-2010, 04:16 AM
I feel a bit silly, I made sure to buy 60 envelopes to make sure that I had more then enough for mistakes and so on (I'll only be sending out maybe 53 STD's). Then I got home and started printing them and realised that about 6 or so of our invites will be going overseas, so the great idea of buying prepaid envelopes won't work for them! :rotfl: So now I've got waaay too many...

I know they'll get used eventually, but now I've still got to find several envelopes for the international guests... :sad2:

Any hoo, here's a pic of the finished product.

Eh, How did everyone else decide where they're going to stay??

We're leaning towards POR in a studio king bed room, for $2000 odd dollars, but also on the cards is a one bedroom suite at BWV through DVC points (we'd be renting them) for $3000 odd dollars..

I like the idea of all the space in a 1 bedroom, but I also like the idea of saving around $1000 :rotfl:

How did everyone else decide?

ChocoKat

I love the envelopes! Great deal!

And about where to stay...
DH and I want to stay at AKL for sentimental reasons mostly, and also because as AP holders and FL residents we get great rates there overall in value season. It was our first deluxe at WDW, and we have come back as often as we have been able to since.

We have been thinking of going to the GF for the day before and the days after the ceremony to save leg work and make things easier on us, but we aren't quite sold on the whole idea yet. We love visiting the resort, but we are not sure we will feel quite relaxed or at home there.

We want to get a room that we can get away to when things get a bit stressful, and a Savannah view at the AKL is what we call pure escapism for us. We could just sit there and gaze at the animals when things get a bit crazy :rotfl2:

We decided DVC was the way to go! It was cheaper than a Mod for us during the week. POR was $199 and a studio was $130ish. We are staying in AKL studio and BWV studio. I would have preferred the one-bedroom but we love the studio and it has enough space.

great job on the envelopes, they look great! That's a shame that you have so many extra but I'm sure you'll find something to do with them.

On the hotel we decided on the GF since all of the wedding events will be there, it's our favorite resort and with the room block we get a pretty sweet discount. We decided to book a King room in the main building for the extra space and just to make our trip extra special.

I made a mock up of my invitations. Still a long way to go before I need to send them, but I felt like playing around, and now if I decide to go with them I'll have plenty of time to do all of them

Anyway, it's a really messy mock up, and the finished product will be a lot more polished then this one is. But I think you get the gist of it :thumbsup2

You're welcome :) It's just habit - I used to edit people's term papers and such all the time, and I have a very annoying tendency to correct things I see on TV or, say, at restaurants or in the paper. There's this restaurant near my house that spelled it "restuarant" on their sign, and another that spelled "king crab" as "kingh clab".

But yeah, the invitations are beautiful! Can't wait to see the finished product! :goodvibes

I just got an email from my coordinator. The Whitehall room has been booked for a convention on the 2nd of March!! :scared1::scared1::scared1:

So I have two options, change the date, or change the location... :sad2:

Changing to the 3rd wouldn't be that big of a problem, except I'd have to change Misty. Changing to the St. James Room also wouldn't be that big of a problem, except I really liked the whitehall room!

Oh well, I'm off to work out some scenarios... Anyone have any pics of the St. James Room?

Noooooo! How dare that convention! I shake my fist in their general direction! Such space hogs! :headache:

I don't think I have pics of St James Room. The St Augustine room will be our actual venue for the reception we will be in the White Hall room just for the cocktail hour, it is rather pretty, there are some pics on my PJ.
