I am having real trouble connecting to some internet sites that I previously opened with no problem. The DIS is fine as is a couple of others. But some sites I open regularly (ie the unofficial QPR messageboard - sad I know) just wont link and give me 'the page cannot be displayed' error screens. It was fine this morning but now now.
Any ideas?

this is probably something to do with the site you are actually trying to connect with. Maybe they are updating or maybe their modem has crashed, if it was ok this morning, then it is very unlikely that it is your end which is causing the problem. Just keep on trying i'm sure you'll get through eventually. :p :p

Yeah, I thought that too, but its happening more often that its not and to sites that I haven't tried to connect to earlier.

This occassionally happens to me too - i don't know what causes it.
do you have both IE and Netscape? I sometimes have trouble with one, and it is fine with the other - no idea why. Or the old, switch it off and then back on again trick sometimes helps.

Are you using the most up-to-date version of your browser? Maybe that might help.

I have NTL cable modem, and i used to get the very same error's you describe. I searched the web for NTL Proxy server addresses, and found this list, http://www.proxyinfo.co.uk/nproxies.htm
You can enter a proxy address from the properties/connections in internet explorer.
If it dosent make an improvement you can simply untick the box that allows you to use proxy servers.
