Does R&C still offer the scotch flight? If so, does anyone recall how much it is? Would also love recommendations on which one to try. TIA:)

As a lover of single malt scotch . . .

1) Rose and Crown has a $13.00 low-to-medium level Single Malt Scotch Flight:
Glenkinchie
. . . region: Lowland
. . . nose: lemon and cut grass
. . . taste: sweet nose, but with more than a tinge of peat
. . . food: sardines and parmesan cheese
Oban
. . . region: Highland
. . . nose: sweet, with tinge of smoke
. . . taste: misty and briny, with light background of heather and peat
. . . food: chicken satay or even crystallised ginger
Lagavulin
. . . region: Islay
. . . nose: deep peat smell and taste
. . . taste: heavy charcoal taste, with heavy smoky peat
. . . food: Roquefort cheese and biscuits


2) Raglan Road medium-to-high level Irish Whiskey Flight:
Connemara
. . . region: County Louth
. . . nose: smokey peat, heather floral, hints of honey and oak
. . . taste: honey sweet start, complex aromas of malt and fruit, vanilla
. . . food: chocolate
Clontarf (blended whiskey, weak and aimed at a woman's taste)
. . . region: Dublin
. . . nose: floral honey, dried apricot, suede, and oily nuts
. . . taste: dry-yet-fruity, spicy caramel
. . . food: smooth cheeses
Tyrconnell (same distery as Connemara)
. . . region: County Louth
. . . nose: fruity aroma with a citrus spiciness
. . . taste: honey notes, oranges and lemons, strong malt presence, bitter
. . . food: pickled or salty fish


3) Raglan Road has a medium-level Single Malt Scotch Flight: (they have 3 different flights)
Craggamore
. . . region: Speyside
. . . nose: sweet floral, herbs and flowers with some honey and vanilla.
. . . taste: strong malty taste with hints of sweet wood smoke and sandalwood
. . . food: sausages or meat pies
Talisker
. . . region: Island
. . . nose: peat-smoke with sea-water saltiness, fresh oysters, citrus
. . . taste: very intense, dried-fruit, strong barley-malt, explosion of pepper
. . . food: smoked salmon, kipper fillets, grilled smoked mackerel, oysters
Oban
. . . region: Highland
. . . nose: sweet, with tinge of smoke
. . . taste: misty and briny, with light background of heather and peat
. . . food: chicken satay or even crystallised ginger


NOTE: I prefer Western Speyside scotch (Glenlivet 18-yr and Mcallum 17-yr) But, with over 800 scotches in the six geographic areas for scotch, there is a taste for everyone. (Robert Louis Stevenson poem written in 1880, 'The Scotsman's Return from Abroad' The king o' drinks, as I conceive it, Talisker, Islay or Glenlivet.)

Rusty may know this, but Raglan Road has scotch flights too - possibly they have better scotches.

The last time we were at Raglan Road they offered three single-malt scotch flights ranging in price from $15-$40 and three Irish whiskey flights from $15-$30. We tried both and the scotch is waaaaay better, but it was still a fun comparison ... we like to try them with dessert for what that's worth.

Rusty may know this, but Raglan Road has scotch flights too - possibly they have better scotches.

1) Most bars have better scotches than are in flights.
2) Bars usually use low-to-medium level (shelf) whiskys.
3) One would not want to taste several upscale scotches.
4) You can't purge the taste buds in order to enoy the scotch
5) Scotch is just too heavy and too complex for that.

Thanks so much for all the info Rusty. Having rarely tried Scotch I don't know much about it. Sounds like we might prefer to inquire if they have one of the better ones and just sample that. Now if I can just get our ADR moved to a slightly later time we might be able to sit back and enjoy our drinks while we watch Illuminations.:goodvibes
