Greetings all from the BWV! DJ's DH and I celebrated ourt 25th anniversary on Wednesday and received some pixie dust on Thursday when we were treated to a quick tour of the rennovated rooms. The project isn't completed yet but they are scheduled to open this section (fifth floor) tomorrow.

New paint and picture as you enter the foyer of the 1 BDR.

Sorry these are dark but I felt I was really pushing it by taking photos since the project leader was being so nice to me. These are the new drapes in the living area. The sofas will be recovered during the project. There are new flatscreen TVs and Dressers. This is a HA rooms so those items had not been installed yet.

New Color Scheme in Master Bath

New Stackable Washer and Dryers (Frigidaire) were added as well. They are not HE but hopefully they will dry faster than the current ones:lmao:

New appliances in the kitchen include a ceramic top stove, new frig, dishwasher and micro. The counters will remain the same. I forgot to look at the floor in the kitchen to see if they made any changes.

On the exterior a new roof has been added as well as new awnings.

The floor of the patios have been painted a sandy color and the underneath a sky blue (this is what you see if you look at the balcony above you.

The project is scheduled to be completed in Janauary. However, I was told that they will stop around Christmas time since they need the rooms for occupancy. Evidently there will be some small items that are atteneded to after Jan. 1.

Like the new artwork & lamps especially tea cups lamp ( at least that's what I think they are :) ). Think I'm kinda sorry to see picket fence wallpaper & footprints carpet are gone....but the halls do look nice & fresh and hotair balloons & hidden Mickey's are nice touch :thumbsup2

Thank you for the anniversary wishes. We had an incredible Intimate Dinner at the GF.

My understanding from the project manager is that all the rooms should be done by Christmas.

Thanks DisneyJen great photos !!

I will miss the picket fence on the walls and the footprint carpet as well. I really like the new carpet but not so much in terms of the new wall treatments.

I agree the new artwork and lamps are fun!

Wow, I really like that! Makes up for the changes in the hallways. They're okay, but I like the old picket fence better.

I like the room changes more than the hallway changes. I do wish there had been a way to keep the picket fence theme.

Thanks for sharing. Love the lamps, artwork, room carpet, do not care at all for the color scheme of the halls.

Cajun, you might get a new room, they will continue rehabbing one floor at a time until all are done.

I agree 100 percent Sammie!

Actually the Project Manager told me that the next phase, which starts on Monday, includes taking rooms on floors 1 through 4 out of service in the same section that they just completed on floor 5. These are standard and pool view near the elevator.

I am doing laundry as I write ... and the clothing in the dryer is on its second cycle:laundy: The new dryers have to be better!

Hopefully the new dishwashers will be quieter as well.

All units, including the studios, will have a DVD player and an iHome:cool1:

Is this the section beginning near the elevators with the standard view rooms on the left as you proceed down the hall? Just trying to figure out in what order the rooms are being done. There was an earlier report of work being done on 1st floor rooms at the end of the proverbial long hallway.

Yes Pete ... it was the first 28 rooms near the elevators with the Standard View on the left and Pool/Garden on the right.

Glad to share!

My pleasure on posting. Thanks for the anniversary wishes.

I agree on the stoves. They are so hard to keep clean as well since stuff would drop under the elements and then burn off:eek:

I love the lamps too.

Awesome! I hope we get a renovated room in early December (boardwalk view).

My understanding from the CMs I spoke with is that those BWV rooms should be done by December.

Thanks for the pictures. I'm happy to see the work being done.

We grew up going to the Jersey Shore and Atlantic City. Honestly neither the before or after reminded us of what we saw.

I really like the new carpet. I suspect the wall paper will grow on me.

No wallpaper ... fresh paint.

Nice to see the new changes....thank you for posting!!!!

Love it all, but will miss the hallway carpet....loved the "sandy footprint" you could see in the old pattern. Did you notice any Hidden Mickey's in the new carpet?

Yes on the HMs. If you look closely at the photo I took of the carpet you can see the HMs. They are upside down in the pattern.

Thanks for posting these! We are so excited to stay in the new digs! :thumbsup2

Us too!

Thanks so much for the pictures. I have been waiting anxiously for someone to post about the changes at the Boardwalk. Do you know if the new appliances in the kitchen will be stainless steel or white?

They are white. They kept the counters, cabinets and wall tile all the same so stainless just wouldn't have looked right.

The chair that I saw in the living area of the 1 BDR is the chair that has been in the BWV forever and is not a sleeper chair. Now that doesn't mean that they won't replace it ... we were in a HA room so I know some of the stuff is different.

CaliforniaDreaming
06-14-2009, 10:26 AM
Not that it isn't possible, but do you really think there is enough room in the living room for a sleep chair? I mean, the chair sits in front of the connecting door as it is, and when used as a two bedroom, I can't even imagine going into the second bedroom while a twin sleeper would be pulled out.

Pete W.
06-14-2009, 10:35 AM
It's not like the sleeper chair would be folded out during the day. It's a great option not only for parties of 5, but for those who need more sleeping flexibility. We have 2 kids, DS14 and DD10 so this arrangement would work nicely for us, even though I don't think we'll ever go back to a 1BR unit since we've become so spoiled with the 2BR units.

Thanks for posting. Very happy to see the hallway carpet finally getting replaced. We had 5006 in May and as we left to room you could really see how bad the carpet had gotten the closer you got to the elevators.

Sorry if I missed this, are they also replacing the TV's with flat screens or do we still have the old Sony's?

The carpets really are showing their age ... although I miss the old footprints in the sand carpet. I do like the new colors and design of the new carpet.

Yes, they are replacing the Sony televisions with flat screens. I am not sure which brand. Our tour was of a HA 1 BDR and Studio. Those do not have the new TVs as of yet since the special order dressers/stands haven't arrived yet. They will get them ... eventually!

They've installed LG's over at AKV so I'd bet they'll be LG's also, probably gets a nice big volumn discount.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the improvements. We will be there in October so maybe we won't have a new room, but next year hopefully.

I for one thought that the hallways were badly in need up renovating. The carpets especially just looked so tired and worn. I do agree that the new carpet and wallpaper lack some of the charm of the old ones, but I vote for clean and new. Overall the resort is wonderful and this will make it even more so.

DJ's DH and I just  our BWV. I agree that the hallway carpet has been beat for at least a year or so while the most recent rooms carpets have held up relatively well.

This post seriously made me look at BWV for our add-on. There are some great deals out there, and I think some points there may be in our future.

Both of our contracts are at BWV. When we added on to our original BWV contract I tried to talk DJ's DH into looking at BWV or OKW or SSR (AKL and BLT weren't available yet) but there was no way.

We just love the BWV ... the location is the best for our family as we can walk to EPCOT or DHS. Those are the two parks where we spend the majority of or time.

Our first stay was in a 2BDR at OKW and I loved all the space ... but I hated taking the bus or driving to the parks.

Although the rooms at BWV are smaller than OKW you just can't beat the location and of course a BW view. Nothing like sitting on your balcony after a long day of park hopping with an adult beverage and watching IllumiNations and then Wishes:love:

With the freshened up rooms it will be that much better:cloud9:

We just returned home from a week stay at the BoardWalk. Lot's of painting was being done on the exterior of the villas. It looks great. The scaffolding in the quiet pool area has been removed. There is a staging area behind valet parking that we could see people/workers, construction trucks, etc. coming and going throughout the day. There was one short hallway (prefered views) on the second floor that had the new color scheme. We never saw any workers in the hallways. Anyone we spoke to had an "old" room.

As a side note, our "old" room was in pretty good shape. No problems to report.

Over on the resort photos board, someone stayed in a refurb room at the BWI and her pictures show a sofa/daybed that will sleep one person in a 2 Q bed studio.

I've never stayed in just a studio room at BWV, do some have 2 Q beds that can hold a sofa in the room too? I have 2 teenage DSs that would rather not sleep together and this would be perfect!!

All BWV studios have one queen bed and one full sized sleep sofa. Some of the dedicated studios have what is called a "day bed" but it is really more like a deep bench with a cushion. These day bed rooms can not be guaranteed. And there is no way that the day bed is even close to the size a teen would need to sleep.

That "day bed" is about the size of a crib mattress only not as thick.

Everything is sounding so great...can't wait to go next July! It will be our first trip home. I definitely feel like we bought at BWV at just the right time, perfect timing for our first trip home...feels like they are rolling out the red carpet! Hey, I can dream, can't I? It's all part of the magic. ;)

The pic of the room I am referring to has a full size green sofa and the gal that took the pics (I'm not sure how old she is) is sleeping on it. It will definately sleep an adult. Maybe the dedicated studio rooms will get them. Here it is:

No, they will not look that way after they are renovated. They will look generally the same with about the same sleeping arrangements if not the exact sleeping arrangements as before. The so-called "daybed" fits where the door would be if the studio connected to a one bedroom to make a two bedroom lockoff. So it is located along the wall and would as long as a door is wide - about 3.5' to 4' long. There isn't enough room in the studio for a twin sized day bed (you get the double sized sleeper sofa in that space).

Couple of hallway pics. I like them both (it was our first trip to BWW, so it all felt new to us!), but I do think I like the new carpeting better. Our room was not renovated, but everything in the room was very fresh and clean. We didn't really think it needs renovation! We saw a lady bringing an IHome Ipod thing to the room, my dd did wish that we had that in our room, I asked the CM about it, she said "sorry, those don't get put in to rooms until they are renovated".

I like the new decor. While the hallways don't have the theming the old carpet really showed dirt and they were always cleaning. I think the new will hold up a little better. I was there last week and went in the preview rooms from the boardwalk to see the changes. The artwork is really nice! I just ordered one of the pictures that used to be over the sofa in the studios for my bedroom! DH and I are going down Friday and our ressie was changed from BWV/BW view to BCV due to the renovations. The whole middle section under the Boardwalk sign was covered in scaffolding last week.

We took a sneek peek at the hallways down on the bottom floor last week.
While I don't care for the themeless hallway walls (yellow is my fave color:confused3) the carpet is much improved over the "Always Dirty" 2nd refurbed carpet. The original board carpet is still my fave. The new colored updated rosey doors really do look great over the 90's dark green. Never really understood why dark green was the color choice for the doors. But the rose color ties in nice with the outdoor color of the BW. We were at our other home BLT for the 1st time last week and enjoyed it. 2 Very different resorts but love them both, with the BW you just can't beat the transportation choices/location even though we were on a monorail resort.

The sofa is designed that way. The cushions stay attached when the sleeper is opened and the cushions support the bed. There are even slots underneath to hold the pillows. Here is a link to show you how it operates:

They are small, only three drawers. I was only in the room two nights, I moved to a 2-bed bw view room today, so I didn't unpack. They were small though & it is the same one in the studio of our 2-bed, so I could see where it could be a problem if you were say three adults in a studio.

These pictures really look great. I like the new look of the rooms, but I hate the new look of the hallways. The old hallways were charming... the new ones look very generic.

We're going to be there later this month, in a 2 bedroom BW view, if it matters. For those of you who were there recently, did you notice any noise or fumes (paint or new carpet) from the rehab? My DM is super sensitive to both, and part of me is really worried about it interfering with her enjoyment of the room.

Yes. At times there have been intense oil paint fumes in the lobby. So much so that they brought in fans. It's not always, it's just every once in a while. The floor I'm on (5th) does not have a smell at all.

We've been here since Mon & I've only noticed the smell in the lobby twice & the amount of time you are in the lobby is so short, so your daughter should be fine. :thumbsup2

5015/5017, love those rooms, had them a number of times, can't beat the view. Last couple times there I've notified maintence that the faucet on the kitchen sink is loose, have they fixed it yet?

The faucet is still not fixed. Also the new refrigerator doesn't close, you have to kick the bottom of it to be sure it closes. Also, the studio sink drain is real slow. By the time I'm done brushing my teeth (I know I'm horrible to the environment, for keeping the water running the whole time ) I have a sink full of water.

We'll be letting maintenance know about these issues. :thumbsup2

We are checking into the BW on Oct 15 (after 2 nights @ Kidani) and although I have seen a number of photos of the renovated rooms after seeing these latest ones I really want a renovated room!! I didn't care before but with the new flat screens and everything done, they look so fresh and wonderful. Is anyone requesting a renovated room and getting them?? I hate to ask and have always happy with what we get.....should I request a renovated room??We have a standard view.

Oooohh, we've had that same two bedroom unit. We were there, with another mom and her dd. Both girls were turning 13. We had such a great time there. It was a very nice location.
Thanks for the photos of the updates...can't wait to get back in Dec!!!

Well, we checked in twice this week. We made no requests & were given refurbed rooms each time if that helps you. :thumbsup2 If you request a high floor you'll almost definitely get a refurbed room, as the higher floors are done, it's the lower floors that they are working on now.

If you do any laundry, will you post about whether the dryers work any better? The old ones took F-O-R-E-V-E-R!

MissMet, love your pictures. Thanks for posting them! I'm "homesick" already and I was just at BWV last week! I love the teacup lamp on the end table in the units, I'll have to try to find one for my daughter's room online....

does anyone know if they opffer complimentary upgrades at BWV? I am going staying in a studio next May 9-16th and renting points from a DVC owner. If I ask for an upgrade when I get there what are the chances? Do they offer complimentary ones or would I have to pay? Just wondering.

Very low. BWV typically operates at close to 100% occupancy and rarely gives points reservations upgrades.

You can't pay cash to upgrade a DVC reservation, it would have to be additional points.

timesharing (renting a points reservation) is not the same as staying at a hotel. upgrades are incredibly rare and virtually always a result of a maintenance issue, not simply that there are other rooms available.

I am going staying in a studio next May 9-16th and renting points from a DVC owner. If I ask for an upgrade when I get there what are the chances? Do they offer complimentary ones or would I have to pay?

the thing is: you can't "pay" for the upgrade - you don't have any points and you cannot mix a cash and points reservation.

if a better villa (say a 1BR) were available, hopefully they would call the owner and verify whether they are willing to use up those points to upgrade you...but in one case, i believe they upgraded the renter without asking the owner and the owner was on the hook for the extra points. it was a mess.

so basically, it's rude to ask for an upgrade in a timeshare situation (and not well received by hotel CMs either from what i've read on the DIS). it just makes DVC owners nervous when renters suggest they might ask for a better room (at the expense of the owner.)

I forgot about the upgrades being on a point system. This is my first time renting points so I won't dare even ask for an upgrade unless I do so through the person I am renting from.. I am just happy to be renting from a DVC owner at this point and being able to stay in a nice villa for way less that booking through Disney. Thanks everyone!

In your previous post you were asking about a "complimentary" upgrade. I think it would be safe to say that if you ask the owner for a "complimentary" upgrade you will be told "no". Please be prepared to pay for a use of any more points, if the owner even has more points to rent out to you.
