Sure! How bad could it be? Once you turn out the lights.......;) :D

My recommendation for this resort is a nuclear blast and reconstruction as something else.

This resort is an eyesore and it's the first resort people see when entering DW on the Osceola road. The first building you see has "PHAT" and "DUH" and other ridiculous words so huge and colorful, it hurts to look at them.

I really hope they rethink this whole concept.

This "resort" looks like they stole it from South of the Boarder on I95.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it last August. It is ugly. But, I guess if I were going on a budget and it was the only thing available and clean, I would stay but I certainly hope the inside of this hotel looks NOTHING like the outside.

I'll stay at it once out of curiousity and to offer opinions on it to friends. Hopefully there will be a jogging trail or connector road over to CBR so we can use the marina or use the sit down restaurant there if we want to.

We have never stayed at one of the value resorts, although we have frequently talked about staying at one of the All-Stars for a quick, lower-cost trip to the World. After having seen Pop Century from the road, when we do decide to stay at a value resort, it will definitely be one of the all-Stars, and it will definitely NOT be Pop Century.

We can't stay at the value resorts anyhow--too many kids. But it also looks pretty ugly on paper.

Yes, we are planning to try Pop Century. We had reservations at Pop Century for New Years, but then the construction was delayed (ended up at CR Tower Club - paying much more! All I was offered from Disney was All-Stars at the same price). We'll give it a try. How bad could it be? (hopefully the Grand Floridian has an open room just incase!)

I don't think so...
It doesn't look very nice.

South of the border on I-95??? What border?

My DS (4yo) has told me that he wants to stay at the "Big Wheel" hotel. So, I guess it is a yes for us. The way I look at it is, if the price is right and my DS would enjoy it, it would be OK for a short 3 or 4 day trip.

Is this hotel opening soon? I'm sure it will be just as good as the other value resorts, it's just extremely ugly on the outside. I don't like that it is the first Disney hotel you see from the Osceola Parkway, and there is no missing it!

It's good that there will be more affordable choices, although I agree that they need to have a value resort that can accomodate larger families.

We have one daughter and she doesn't travel much with us anymore but I can still sympathize with the families with 3 or more children.

We haven't stayed at a value resort yet. If we do, I really don't think it will be Pop Century. It's just too too much.

Happy summer!

corndog, South of the Boarder is located on I-95. It is a few hotels (that look like Pop Century), a small amusement park, a restaurant, etc situated on the boarder of North and South Carolina. When you pass there at night, the lights are so bright that if you are sleeping as a passenger in the car, it can wake you up :)

I'd stay there if I could get a good rate on it. Certainly not a first choice. It would depend on rates! :)

montessori, have you been by it recently? The new landscaping is hiding it quite well and in a year or so it will be nearly unseen from the roadways...

Hi Captain,

We rode by the resort numerous times on Father's Day weekend. We stayed at The Gaylord Palms. BEAUTIFUL resort but we did discover that we like being on property best.

The 80's Pop Century building that is pretty much right on the Osceola is still painfully visible. I wish I had a picture, words just can't describe it to anyone who hasn't seen it.
Maybe "PHAT!" or "RAD!" How about "NOT!" Ha!

There are certainly more important things to think about, like our 4th of July vacation at The Boardwalk! Yippee!

:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

It does surprise me that Disney architects or designers, or whoever, decided to make this resort look like this, it must have looked different on paper!

Is it opening soon? It didn't look like much was happening when we drove by. The location is better than the other value resorts.

Yes, I Will!;) I am looking forward to it opening, and when it does, I am SURE you will NOT be able to see it from the Roadways....do YOU see any of the OTHER hotels from the roadway? I Don't untill I get RIGHT UP to them!;)

It is very easy to see some of the resorts from the road. MOST of them are not on frequently traveled roads, but it is very easy to see THE BOARDWALK from the road, and it's a beautiful sight. I think if you can not see a Disney Resort from the road, it is because it is far off the beaten path and is surrounded by lush landscaping. There is no need to intentionally hide the resort because it is so "unattractive." Visitors would have no reason to ride by the other Value resorts, if they were not going to those resorts. I believe that architecture should be designed to be seen and enjoyed, as MOST Disney resorts are. They do not hide The Grand Floridian.
It is MY opinion that the resort is very ugly and beneath Disney's standards. Maybe some people think it's very nice to look at, I don't know.
The colorful "project" looking buildings are right on one of THE MAIN streets entering Disney property. It is the FIRST Disney hotel a visitor will see when arriving via the Osceola. First they will see The Gaylord Palms (quite impressive) then they will see the that ugly building with all those HUGE words shouting out at you. It's crass and cheap. Hidden or not, why is it so ugly?

We all know how magical Disney is, what happened with this resort? I just don't get it. Ok I'm done with that now. I'm busy working on a September Disney vacation, and then there's the Wine and Food Festival! So many Disney vacations, so little time. :)

But, if they put too much greenery up to hide it then we'll never know where to turn:p

I wouldn't stay there, but then again, I wouldn't stay at the All-Stars either...mainly because I think the budget resorts rooms are too small. But I remember the same comments being made when the All-Stars were getting ready to open...about how ugly they were (I remember lots of comments about how ugly the coke bottles were).

But I will say, that my sis and her family stayed at the All-stars and the kids loved it there....that is important too her so she would probably stay at Pop Century when it opens since when we drove by it (they are down on a trip now...staying at POFQ) she thought the kids would have a blast there.

I don't like to stay at hotels that make me feel nauseated. And, um, I think All-Stars is ugly too. But with Pop Century it seems like it was intentional.

Neither Pop Century nor AS are my cup of tea, so I probably wouldn't choose to stay at either one. AS is a bit nicer looking, I think what gets me about PoP are the sayings on the sides of the buildings. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't want to be reminded of "Where's the Beef?", "Phat", or "Whassup?" if I can help it!

I would only stay there if there was nothing else available....including nothing at All Stars!
AND the price was right!!! Like......$40 or LESS!! :D

I might reconsider staying there if they get rid of those hideous words all over!!!!

I would like to stay a few nights for our January '03 stay. (If it is even open!) I am just TOO curious to see this place live and in person. DH wants to stay there because of it being new.
I really enjoyed ASMo (esp for the $) and want to stay there most of the time for on-site.

Yes, I will try it at least once! I am a fan of the All Stars so why not give Pop Century a try.
