I wanted to let everyone know that there's a grass roots effort to start a "GayDays" for Epcot's Food & Wine Festival. Last year was the first year for this and it's held on the last Saturday of the Festival. We went last year and saw several other attendees in their red shirts from GayDays.
This years is planned for October 3rd, 2009. If you are on FaceBook there's a group for it. Just search for "Food Wine Epcot Gay" and you should come across it.
:woohoo:

cool. Maybe I can get Kari to take the day off to go with me. It's not fun that she wants to work every Gay Day weekends... just cause of the bears show.
And for the most part most people look at me like I'm one of those few lost souls that have no idea why every one is wearing red. Of course it doesn't help when I'm by myself either.

Yes, they have picked the last Saturday of F&W to hold this.

Ok, this is from the heading on their FaceBook Group:
A grass roots campaign made November 8th, 2008 the first annual Gay Day at EPCOT's International Food and WIne Festival. It was a great event..and it's time to plan for the 2nd annual! October is a great time to be in Orlando (not as hot, not as crowded) and the Festival is a treat...special food and wine kiosks are added to every pavillion. Dee-lish-us! Let's all go and wear purple shirts...the color of a fine merlot!

So to clarify, the date is October 3rd and the shirt color is purple. Time to hit Zazzle and make make a shirt to wear!

the first Saturday in October is Gay Day at Disneyland.

Nope not a good day for us here, either. We'll be in St. Pete's at a Yankees Rays game.
It really should stick with the last Saturday for loads of reasons, one being the level of attendance issues (which are never to be disregarded). Weekends for the Festival are JAMMED.
Conflicting with Gay Days at Disneyland isn't too cool either. Not a good idea to set up conflicts regardless of distance.
So, grass roots and all, it needs to be responsive to the community.

I've been sending the facebook group out to everyone, but I do agree that the last Saturday would be a lot less crowded and probably more well-recieved.

well I'll put it on the calendar. I might end up at a wedding in WI that weekend, but I'm not sure yet.
I don't believe I own any purple shirts...time to visit that wonderful Hanes Tshirt shop again!! I can see it now

LOL, kari's favorite color. The only purple shirt she wears is the one at work, and she only likes it because she doesn't like the pink one of thunder.
But why would they want to put it in with Disneyland's??? Is this supposed to be like an alternative or something for those that can't travel to Cali??
November would seem a lot better since the halloween rush will be over, and christmas hasn't quite started.

Seriously, the idea sounds like a lot of fun.:goodvibes

My dear friends,
I"m bumping this up so my friend, DJ, who is organizing the October Mini Gay Day for F&W, can find it. I'll try to convince him he should join up and start posting.

You might want to chat with your friend about coordinating the gay F&W with the Orlando Pride celebration (October 8-11th). Not only would it be more likely to draw larger crowds, but you might also be able to get some advertisement for it on the official website!

These dates would be better for us anyway, since I just found out our family reunion (in Orlando) is Oct. 10-12, so we'll be down there anyway. I hate to pay for back to back weekend trips.

Not without more than a week's notice!
We need time to tidy up, change the sheets in the guest rooms, etc . . .
Plus we've got to make sure we don't have other company at that time.
I swear! We move to Florida and all the friends and family assumed we were running "Rob & Scott's Free Bed and Breakfast". :rotfl2:

Hi Disneykin!
I am the fella who set up the Facebook page last year to generate a Gay presence on a specific day at the Food and Wine Festival. It was indeed the last Saturday of the festival in 2008 (and the same weekend as my birthday...double celebration!)...but the people in attendance suggested that the first weekend in October would likely be LESS crowded...I can promise you that the last Saturday was VERY crowded last year. Perhaps it will be true that every weekend is popular, but we are trying Oct. 3 for 2009. Hope to see y'all there! We (those attending last year) were aware that Disneyland Gay Day is OCt. 3 when we 'voted' for the 2009 date, but it was our thought that east coasters may be less likely to go west in the fall...it is not meant to 'compete' with Disneyland Gay Day. It's a great festival..go ANY time...but if you are gay and care to join us, do please say howdy Oct. 3!
Wear purple...eat, drink and be Mary!

The last weekend of the festival is always very crowded, for sure.
I'm personally very excited that we'll be there on this "gay day" as we've never made any of the others before! :woohoo:
