PIXAR and Their Protagonists

I decided to post the link to this article over on Cinematical. It's not really a rumor or news, but there are great points brought up on both sides of the argument. I think comment 9 brings up a great point. Pixar doesn't make movies to sell merchandise and be "politically correct," they make movies to tell a good story. If they don't have a good story, they won't make the movie. If this is in the wrong section, I apologize.

Thanks, CTT, for the link. The article is an interesting read, and I agree that good points are made.

I just saw Up yesterday, and like the NPR writer mentioned, laughed and cried my way through the whole thing. Young Ellie seems to be the kind of character that women are craving in a Pixar flick. I for one hope that they DON'T make a movie about a girl JUST to do so. These people know how to tell a real story-- I don't want to see them start pandering to synergy and marketing.

Perhaps what Pixar is really missing is a strong female storyteller. What we've had so far were rich, resonant stories told by men.
