If you don’t respond within 48 hours of the pm, I will angel your spot. Just let me know if you’re going to be out of town during a check in and I’ll take care of that!

Yippee!
These are the groups I’d like:
G. Pirate Night OR I. Characters - Pirate/Formal – I’d like to do Pirate Mickey so you decide where to put me. (I had my “aha moment” last night with Inkscape and was able to break a coloring book page into colors!). Either group will work for me because I think the cruise we are going on is going to be over Halloween in 2010. But, if we don’t, we’ve been to the Princess & Pirate Party…
O. Colors (tropical, nautical, beach, Disney, etc.) – I’m unsure of my elements just yet. I’ll probably use the Tahiti stack though ;)
P. DCL General (terminal, stateroom, towel animals, sports on deck, DCL, spa, etc.) – I’m not sure what I’ll do yet. Maybe something with a pool?

Here is what I would like:
A - Helmsman Mickey
G - General Piratey goodness
H - Sailor Pluto
I - I would like a spot, but I haven't decided on a character yet
Q - I was going to sign up for Sailaway party, but Michelle took it, but there is an open space, would anyone object to 2 Sailaway party spots?
R - Beach Bums
Michellepooh

Hope - you can have the Sailaway Party spot. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, so I just picked a topic.
My computer seems slower than molasses today, so make sure to check your groups in case I miss anything.

Hey - just wanted to check in to say almost all my groups look good - could you put me in G1 as well, that one got missed. I know you were having computer troubles, so I don't blame you. :)
And now that there's a new general DCL open, can I take P1? I'll take Fish Extender, please!
Michellepooh
06-10-2009, 01:41 PM
As I'm going through, a couple of quick questions.
We seem to have a lot of new cruise swappers this year as opposed to previous years (Yay!!). Do we want to keep the groups limited to 6, or would you prefer the groups to go bigger? For example, I've had to open second groups for Pirate Night and DCL general. The reason for the smaller groups has always been that there weren't enough players for bigger groups. Some people figure that if you've already designed your pieces, it's not much more to make 10 instead of 6. I will go with whatever the consensus of the group is on this. I'm thrilled that we have so many new people joining us this year!!!
Also, due to the whole disappearing edits debacle, for group D I have both Tigger1221 and KKbeaton2 doing Grand Cayman. Doesn't matter to me if we double up on that, I always can use the pieces, but if anyone wants to change, just let me know. Same thing for Group Q, Golden Mickeys.
morgansmom2000
06-10-2009, 01:45 PM
I like the smaller groups, but would say if you have a group of two at the end, just tack them on. You know what I mean?

I'm fine with larger groups. I definitely subscribe to the idea of being in one group of 10 and only having to come up with one idea, vs. 2 groups of 5 and having to come up with 2 ideas. Both ways you have a lot of pieces to make, although one is easier to use stash, but I STRESS over the ideas. The ideas is why I have to limit myself this time, I don't have time to drive myself crazy coming up with ideas.
Michellepooh
06-10-2009, 01:50 PM
I agree, Hope. The ideas are always the hardest part. It's funny because last time around we were struggling to fill one group, never mind multiple groups!
Morgansmom2000, I know what you mean!
Like I said, I was just throwing the idea out there. I'll go with the majority.
kkbeaton2
06-10-2009, 01:50 PM
I'm ok with the larger groups. Also, with the duplicates on the themes (both include me), I'm ok with having having more than 1 person sign up for it, because I know I have way more pictures then would fit on one LO, so it is fine with me.
PinballFamily
06-10-2009, 01:51 PM
Hey, Michellepooh!!!
I'm in (you sick swap people!) - can I have P1 - Towel Animals?
Thanks!

Yes, I can see Hope's point as well.
I may end up in more groups as this fills ;)

06-10-2009, 01:59 PM
Welcome to the dark side, Pinball Family! You're only joining because you knew you wouldn't have to pay for postage! ;)
kkbeaton2 - I always have way more pictures than I'd ever fit on a layout, too! So duplicates are always welcome for me!
Tigger1221

I am ok with duplicate themes and larger groups. I have 3 cruises to scrapbook! Whatever you decide is fine with me.

kkbeaton2
06-10-2009, 02:21 PM
Boy am I lucky! Mine are only 7 night ones! But I won't ever catch up either, because we go to Disneyland at least once a month, and so I have TONS to scrap from those trips, 2 WDW trips and the 2 cruise trips. The only way I would ever get caught up is to quite going... and I can tell you that will NEVER happen!!!:rotfl:

06-10-2009, 02:21 PM
I have 2 Disney cruises and a non-Disney. The one Disney was the TA, so I have like 750 pictures printed :rolleyes1 ... I was telling DH last night, though, that I need another one.
Michellepooh
06-10-2009, 02:24 PM

I just need to hear from MinnieGarden to see if she's OK with bigger groups. Downrivermama isn't in any of the affected groups.
Was there anyone else that had expressed interest in joining this swap? I can't remember. I know Disney_rider was interesting in a general cruise group.
Arizona Rita
06-10-2009, 02:57 PM

Why don't you put me in the general Non-Disney cruise group. I think it will stay small, and I have Life's a Beach, so I should be able to figure out something without straining my brain.

OK here's what I'd like to do:
Group R1 Castaway Cay - Stingrays
Group P1 DCL General - Stateroom
Group B Disney Wonder - Nassau
My plan is toppers and probably tags for each group.
Can I just make it very clear to all that I am 6 and a half months pregnant at this point. Baby isn't due until a month after the swap due date (and *** I'm UK I need to be finished and mailed way earlier than that) but as we all know things can go awry and babies can decide to show earlier than planned! Just wanted to make sure other swappers are aware that I may need to pull out although I have no plans to do so and it would be down to medical issues, all clear atm except my lovely throat infection!!! I would be happy to limit to one group or not participate if people would be happier with that to avoid any angels being needed. I just wanna be straight with other swappers ya know??
Michellepooh
06-10-2009, 06:33 PM
I'll get you added, Queenie! No problems on my end with you joining us! Even if angels were needed, it's only 3 groups. Wishing you a healthy pregnancy! :goodvibes

Michelle - here is the paper I have - Sandylion "fun in the sun" Mickey heads with black lines radiating around them on a yellow background and Sandylion "at the beach" looking through safety rings at the characters with a yellow background.
Put me whatever groups those papers will work with.
Michellepooh
06-10-2009, 07:02 PM
Hi Ann, glad you are joining us!
You've never been on a cruise, right? I made the 1st color group a group of 7 to squeeze you in there, and then put you in the second color group as well. The other groups didn't seem like they'd have anything too non-cruise. Is that OK?
AlexWyattMommy
06-10-2009, 07:08 PM
:) A okay with me. I've never been a cruise, but I have used up the things I got from the last few swaps with this one. :rotfl2:

For group P I am thinking of using the Cruise boat off of Lifes a Beach. It can be used for photos of the boat. Is that ok?
And for H- I want to do beach/tropical mickey.

Hey everyone..... I'm sorry I didn't get to check in yesterday. It was quite possibly one of the worst days ever. Not only did I have jury duty, but I got picked. When I got home yesterday evening, I discovered that my 15 year old persian cat had passed away. Sooooooo......... very bad day in my house.
Anyway, I'm totally ok with big groups. Multiples are great. I've been on one DCL cruise and have two more planned. One will be our vow renewal trip.
Michellepooh
06-11-2009, 07:58 PM
Oh MinnieGarden, I'm sorry to hear about your kitty. I have 2 and I know I'd be devastated if anything happened to them.

I'll do beach Donald for the character group and I'm thinking the Flying Dutchman or Mt. Rustmore for Castaway Cay. hmmmmm....... any thoughts?

I'll put you down for Donald, MinnieGarden. I always take pictures at both places on CC, so either would be fine for me.
I'll close the signups at 5pm on Sunday. I'll be gone all day on Saturday, so if anyone signs up then, I won't be able to respond until Sunday anyway. Once signups are closed I will combine any groups that need to be, so hold off on getting started on anything until we're sure of group numbers. :thumbsup2

I had a question - when we're doing the characters (pirate/formal, beach) what other sort of element would we put with them? They in themselves are one element, but what would you match them with?

06-12-2009, 03:00 PM
Here is what I did for Sailor Pluto.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w234/hopemax/IMG_4195.jpg
You can find clipart of the characters doing beachy stuff, or dressed in their formal wear on http://www.disneyclips.com/ and then you could put the clipart on any of the normal elements. I have pirate stickers from WDW that could be used to embellish a normal element. Or you could just make "beachy" or "piratey" photo mats to go with a character.

OK Ladies, signups are officially closed!!
Please double check all of your groups and take note of the number of participants in each group so that you know how many to make. There are a couple of groups that I had to combine, but none of the groups are larger than 8.
kkbeaton2 - you and I were the only 2 who expressed interest in the kids' club groups, so I just eliminated those.
Also, if anyone wants to join the second color group, let me know. There were only 2 participants in that second group, and I couldn't combine because I'm sure AlexWyattMommy wouldn't want 2 spots in the same group. I added myself to help bring up the number, but if anyone else wanted to join in, just let me know ASAP.
Over the next day or two I will be updating the thread with the check-in dates, as well as packaging and mailing information. I will also PM all of you with my contact information.
I'm looking forward to a fun swap with such a talented group of swappers! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Can't wait to see all of your creations! :goodvibes

Quick question for group R. As we've combined the two CC groups, I won't do stingrays as ZerotoHero had already taken that before me.
I was going to do the Dutchman instead but I don't want to tread on toes if anyone already decided to do it? Is that ok with you all?

For color groups O I am going to do Ocean colors (I have some cute ocean paper)
Here is a question for thoes in group O. Stitch62 wants to do 2 palms trees with a hammock in the middle (so browns and greens). Is this to specific an element? If it is thats fine, she will do something different. The other element will be done it the same colors.
Queenie- I am not doing the Flying Dutchman, so thats fine with me.

The colors are Red, white, Navy blue and black

Queenie - I like the Flying Dutchman topic. We always take a pic with Jack there.
Tigger1221, I think the palm tree / hammock idea sounds cute! (wish I was there now!)
Disney_rider, it's OK that you didn't give the specific colors. It's just more of a guide to make sure not everybody is doing the same thing.

Hey girls,
Need your thoughts on my Nassau stuff. I've done a topper and 2 journalling boxes, so far they're single matted. I can't figure out what to do with them now, rules say double matting but I can't fathom what colour would work? Any suggestions?
I'll hide the pic so people who don't want the suprise spoiled don't have to see it. Just in case it's not clear from the pic, the letters in the title and the palm trees are raised up on foam.

Hi, just got back and was checking my groups and for group O I had requested Disney colors, not Nautical. Is it possible to still do that? Thanks, no problem if not.
Also, any suggestions for group A? Is there anything we're missing that anyone would like to see done?:)

Although I'm not in Group A - maybe Topsider's? Or is it Beach Blanket Buffet? I don't know.... I think it's Topsider's though. I don't know how much people go to those though.... :)
You know, I'm surprised we don't have a Cake of the Day group - apparently you can get a different cake from Room Service every day? I didn't know about that! My mom told me, and I was trying not to let my sister hear, but it was too late. I have a feeling we're going to have to hide the phone from her, otherwise it's going to be "Cakes of the Day"

ZTH, I had been thinking about Topsiders also.
My vote doesnt count and we have one for Topsiders. For group A would anyone else like to offer an opinion or vote for Topsiders?

I will try to keep Topsiders sort of generic so that you can use it elsewhere as well:)
Next q~ on the fireworks page, can the topper be like the color swap and as long as its 3 layers and embellied be ok? That way we can use our own wording? Or would you like a title?
Tigger1221
06-23-2009, 08:37 PM
Topsiders is fine with me too.
For A I will do Beat Street as I have a really cute idea and for H mom will do Sailor Chip. I have a cute idea for CC but need to try it first. We both bought most of our paper and will be working on these at the beach soon.

Just wanted to let you know I'm doing Pirate Goofy... Pirate Nephews proved to be too difficult - I would need to redraw it with a tablet, and I think Goofy may be the same, but with less detail. I could always try doing it with a light box, to see if that works.

I got one of my tables cleaned off, so I can pull out my stuff and see where I am. Before I went on my trip, I had written down what I would like to do, and gotten some of the computer stuff done. I never told you guys, but while I was in FL our hard drive crashed! I had meant to back up before I left, but didn't. But DH was able to access the info, even though it wouldn't boot right, so I didn't lose anything and by the time I got home everything was fixed. But I have to go through and remember what I had done and what I still have to do.

P1. DCL General
2. Fish extenders
The fish extender is a bunch of frames, and I left the tops and sides open, so you could put the photo on the back, and then glue everything down. It is just a little bit under 12 inches, so it will fit perfectly on a 12x12 page. The big tag has a Mickey eyelet, but I didn't put it in, so that you could figure out how you wanted the tag & eyelet to face.
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f86/faerietithe/Scrapbook%20and%20Swaps/DSCN3769.jpg

The "with the rays" part is separate so for people who have never swam with the rays (Michelle......) they can just use the "swimming" title bar, and use the rays as watery embellishments. :)

3. R&R
So I sort of cheated for this one - I loved my background paper so much that I didn't want to cover it up completely. So I put 1 photomat on, 1 journaling box, the title, and included a second photomat & embellishment if you guys want to cover up the background paper. It does fit right in the space I left.

Here are my elements for Group O 7. "at the beach"
The toppers will have their life preservers in different locations to try to keep from covering the pics of the characters.
The large life preserver is meant to be a journal box. However, the writing portion is adhered with glue dots. You can slide a photo in instead.
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q179/alexwyattmommy/100_4479.jpg
Just need to finish adhereing the preservers to the title and put the rope around the rest of the journal boxes.

and your FE~ I swear once again great minds think alike. I was going to attache jbs to the FE and include brads so you could take off the ribbon if someone didnt like it and Im making a topper that says "Weve Got Mail".
For Pirates I did photomats with charms (Jack inspired) and I made altered paperclips with a parrot outline and fun fiber.
I was trying to be brave and think outside the box so I hope you all will like them.
And for Topsider Buffet I used the cricut and tried to get as close as I could to the sign outside the buffet.

you can go to DCL Picture of the Day, go to page 7 post 100 and there is a link. That is what I had to go by. Just FYI (3 cruises and how do I not have my own photo!:confused3)

Formal Mickey and the Beach Mickey were from the WDW coloring book with the blue cover from a couple years ago. Mickey is actually making his footprint, signature in front of the Great Movie Ride but I deleted that stuff. The beach Mickey, I deleted the stuff on the blanket in the actually picture and then just made stuff to put on it from various Cricut carts.
The pirates came in the Pirates coloring book that was sold on ship. Half is Pirates of the Caribbean (movie), and half Mickey & Friends pirates.
Everything else came from a coloring book that was given to Castaway Club members.

This is what I've done for group O (colors). The hibiscus flower is not put down and I was going to send 3 for each person (one down on the tag - popped up) and 2 more to put on the photo mats as you wish). I don't want to put them down, because they may encroach on your photo. Will that be okay or should I put ribbon on the mat too?
Also, there will be three different sets, because those silly stacks only have 2 sheets of each page! Two are very similar, but the third is more beachy colored (the orangy colored words on blue with one of the off white patterned papers). Okay?

Michelle,

morgansmom2000

It shouldn't be a huge issue, I just know those little pieces are going to take some time to get together.
Are the tags okay as they are? I will add ribbon and/or an eyelet. I think I'll wrap the mats with ribbon and pop up a hibiscus on the ribbon itself.

morgansmom - The tags look fine. I really like the flower. The color groups don't tend to be embellished as much because they're meant to be fairly generic pieces.

Great, two different answers! How about I send a gray background piece and you can use it or not? :thumbsup2
The background is all one piece, all the little colored pieces are separate. I did not create it, I just moved things around and kind of Mickey-ized it.
I had a thought (in the shower, I think best in the shower :confused3), how about a journal box that is a pirate flag like the one on the mesh, but bigger and no Mickey head.

For group H, I'm changing from beach to sailor Donald and he's in process. I never was able to find beachy donald-ish paper I was happy with :sad2:
For group P1, I did a "relax" theme in leiu of the spa. I thought it would be more versatile for everyone. I did title letters - "RELAX" and photo mats. That group is done.
For group R - Mt. Rustmore is still in progress.

Hiya,
Just an FYI, my DH was involved in a car crash this morning. Thank God he's ok but the car's in really bad shape and it's totally thrown my day to the wind - I'm supposed to be in an appointment at the other side of town right now. He's due to be picked up by a local car hire company at 3pm to go get the replacement car and then he's planning on going in to work as a car crash isn't a good enough reason for him not to have been in today according to his boss and there's work that needs doing urgently. He's planning on taking the swap stuff with him and posting it on his way home tonight but obviously it all relies on things going to plan which they soooo haven't today! If need be I'll make a special trip out tomorrow to go post it but hopefully it will go today.
This is what I get for moving to a remote village with barely any public transport!!!

Your snorkel Mickey is adorable.
Thanks everyone for the kind words.
For the pirate head border, I used CDS using the skull from LAB, alternating 2 different sizes.
The snorkeling Mickey I saw about a year ago, and thought, he is so cute, I wish I could do something like that with my Cricut. But I just got SCAL about 2 weeks ago, and so I thought I would try it on this swap. So Captain Mickey was the first, then Sorcerer Mickey and then the snorkeling Mickey. It gets easier with each one I do, but I have to say that I just love how easy titles are with it and the shadowing is. It used to take me a couple of hours to do a title with the shadow so that it would line up just right, but now it is maybe 5 minutes! What takes the longest is trying to figure out what font to use! :lmao:

Downrivermama, sorry to hear of your hectic day. Maybe you need a coconut drink!
I wasn't that bad, but I'll take a umbrella drink anytime! Actually on one of mine I did journaling boxes and it has a pineapple drink with an umbrella on it.

2 weeks! You've had SCAL for 2 weeks and you created these fabulous pieces:faint: I need to go on a cruise just so I can rationalize joining this swap next time.

Wow! That was fast. I've only been to Palo once and knew the colors were yellowish. Glad you like them. I finally gave my Cricut a work out!

It has been a very hectic week. These will be in the mail tomorrow, priority with DC. Pics are uploading, will post a little later. I accidently only made 6 tropical Mickeys, so I sent an empty bag with a note saying to send it (the empty bag) back to me.
I was just poking around this swap to see what everyone has created and WOW! Everything looks sooooo great.
I'm just learning about SCAL? and haven't had the time to really look into it just yet, but from what I can see, it's going to the top of my wish list.
I think I'm a pretty good scrapbooker, but you guys have me really Wowed!
I have a couple of questions.
1. All the Character disigns that I'm seeing in your posts. Donald in a life jacket, Mickey in snorkel gear, I've seen Mickey in Safari gear (AK Swap). Are those done with SCAL? Or some other program that I don't know about?
2. I've also seen people use a simple photocopy and copy it to multiple colored pages and cut and piece everything together. I would imagine that SCAL and the Cricut would be faster? But does anyone use the photocopy process?

Yep, all the paper piecings and the "Lifeboat Drill" title are all done with SCAL.

That's all SCAL. She used a coloringbook to scan in and break apart the layers. I know someone, on an old swap, did the method you said, but I don't know who or what on... I only saw it... maybe someone else remembers. I think it was a Goofy in safari gear?
(Hopemax is our resident expert in it, she makes awesome things.... I aspire to her greatness.... :goodvibes: :p)

Great work Ladies!
I wonder if Donald will get mad when he noticed the MM eyelet on the top hat?:goodvibes
On your Mom's colors pieces, is that Magic Mesh? Where do you get that at?
Or what did she use?
I hope I get some of your pieces!

I told my mom the same thing about the Mickey eyelet!:lmao:
I don't know what is was she used on the color pieces, we just found it the fiber bin in the scrap room. Its cool though, the stuff on the photo mats lifts up to put a photo under and then sticks right back down.
