Does anyone know if there is anything special planned for the 3-day Wonder cruise that leaves on Halloween day(Oct. 31, 2002)?
I have read that there are some activities being planned by fellow DIS boarders for Halloween on the Magic(i.e. dressing up in costumes and door to door trick or treating , but have not read if anything like this is in the works for the Wonder cruise.
Thank you,
A very excited family of five

A while back, I too was trying to find out this information! I was told that Disney WONDER also has alot of decorations and activities for the Halloween Holiday. I do not know this for certain, as this will be our first cruise but I am sure the fellow DISers know their stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you going on this cruise, or just thinking about it!?
Hope to see you there.............

Hi Kim,
My family(DH, DD 8, DS by then 3, my mom and myself) are already booked for a 7 day land/sea package that has us at WDW from Oct. 27-31, then boarding the ship for our 'Wonder'ful 3 day cruise.
We have been booked for close to a year now and the excitement just keeps building more and more. Now that there are only a few more months left, the planning of the smaller details begins in earnest. Will Oct. ever get here?!!! :p
Can I hope from your last line that we will be going on the same cruise?
Lynn
I am also on the Oct. 31 Wonder cruise!!! I am hoping that there are fun Halloween activities. I assume that there will be a lot of decorations because the boat will have time to decorate being that it is in port all day. I originally had a 7 day planned for May....but i could not wait that long for my second cruise, so I booked this 3- day to tide me over. If anyone hears anything please let me know! Thanks:)

I am on the Oct. 31 Wonder also. It's my third Wonder cruise this year - just couldn't resist! This time I am bringing my nephew, but he is not a kid . . He's an airline pilot who has never cruised. We both love Halloween. I heard that in addition to activities for children there may be an adult Halloween bash and costume contest. Does anyone have details?

Hey taswira! Haven't seen you in AGES though I know you were down my way. I'll be on the Halloween cruise! I booked yesterday. Are adults going to dress in costume? If so I think I'll dig out my Bat Girl outfit!

My family is booked for the 10/31/02 Wonder also. It's me, dh, dd9 and ds6.
We cannot wait and also are curious about Halloween details. This is our first Wonder Cruise...we have done the Magic twice before!

This Halloween bunch of DISers seems to be shaping up nicely! I seem to recall a post elsewhere on this board that kimber79 has 18 people. Is that correct? If so, it means that so far there are at least 35 of us on that cruise. Anyone for getting together for one big group photo by Shutters (or by one of us who would be left out of the picture)? Maybe in costume on Halloween night? Just a thought. Does anyone know if DCL would "allow" guests to dress as Disney characters for Halloween? I could see where that <I>might</I> cause a problem if adults did it. Does any CM on this board know the answer?

Hi taswira!
Yes, you were correct, there will be '18' of us traveling in my group! We are very excited about this cruise as it will be a 1st for all of us except my mom and dad, and to be able to do it Disney Style on Halloween is an added plus!
I think it would be very cool to get the fellow DISer's together for a group photo! Thank you for the suggestion. We will have to stay in touch til then, and pick a time and place to meet. I look forward to meeting everyone then!

We are on the Oct. 27 - 31 cruise so unfortunatly we will be getting off the ship the day you are all getting on. I had heard that they do things for Halloween on our cruise. Did I hear wrong? I am really hoping that they do, due to the fact that my girls will be missing out on all the activites here at home for Halloween. Any info would be appreaciated.
taswira
07-03-2002, 10:18 AM
Julie, I'm not sure if they will have Halloween activities on your cruise, since Halloween is not until the evening of the day you debark. There must be someone on this board who has cruised during those dates and could answer(?). Sorry you won't be with us for <I>our</I> cruise.
Kim, I know your group will have LOTS of FUN! The best place to meet for a BIG group photo would probably be on the steps in front of Triton's. We could schedule a time with Shutters to shoot us. I'm sure they'd be glad to since I and probably several others would buy the photo. Maybe we could get a "head count" of how many DISers are willing to be in the picture. Two for me, 18 for you . . anyone else? We can schedule a separate "DIS Meet" time and place as it gets closer to the cruise. For those who are hesitant about meeting, <I>please</I> read <a href="http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=224620">THIS THREAD</A>.

taswira,
My family and I would love to get together for one big picture with everyone else!! What a picture that would be.
I really hope that DCL allows people to dress up Disney. My whole family thought it would be a big kick to dress up as different Disney characters. Since we are on the land portion of our land/sea package before cruise, we were planning on using the same costumes at the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at MK.
I hope someone who knows the answer to your question answers soon before I buy our costumes.
Look forward to seeing everyone,
Lynn
P.S. Does anyone know if there will be any Trick or Treating?
taswira
07-03-2002, 01:58 PM
Great, Lynn! That's 5 in your family then? That brings us to 25 for a group picture so far! As people respond I'll keep a running tally ;-).
I asked the Halloween questions on a new thread. Gottaluvdisney got this reply from Guest Services: "Onboard, featured events will include Family Trick-Or-Treating, as well as themed parties for the children and for the teens. For adults, we offer a Halloween Party with Costume Contest with prizes being awarded to the best of the best. Guests of all ages are encouraged to bring their costumes!"
UPDATE: Based on answers posted on the thread where I asked the question about adults dressing as Disney characters, it looks like it should NOT be a problem. If you want your whole family to be a character set, just go for it!

I tried on my old Bat Girl outfit but it looks like I've gained some weight. One look in the mirror and I decided I don't want to inflict this image on others! Anybody have any ideas for a short brunette with long straight hair and just a few too many pounds? Oh dear! I don't care. I'm counting the days until our Halloween cruise! Oh, and count me in for the group picture!
taswira

Don't fret over a few pounds, andicat. Besides, you have a few months to work it off! Sounds like you at least can still <I>get into</I> your Bat Girl costume. I don't know what I'm going to be, but I found a website with a lot of ideas in different categories. <a href="http://www.costumeideazone.com/default.asp">CLICK HERE</A> if you're interested.

07-16-2002, 02:41 PM
That site did get me rethinking. I'm abandoning Bat Girl and instead combining a couple of ideas from the costume idea site with some items I bought last week at Downtown Disney. Think I'll look pretty original. Now I'm thinking about my cabin. Does anyone know if they let you decorate your room for Halloween, or would they frown on that?
momto2dkids
07-16-2002, 03:45 PM
andicat,
I think I saw posted somewhere on these boards that it is ok to decorate the staterooms. I do know that Shirley's company 'The Perect Gift' use to offer a service where they would decorate staterooms for people, but that after Sept. 11th Disney is no longer allowed to let them onboard to provide this particular service.
Several months back I bought many Halloween items on sale from the Disney store just for the sole purpose of decorating our stateroom. I fact I was planning on decorating the room right after we get on while my husband and mom show the kids around the ship and then surprising my two children(8,3) letting them think that Mickey decorated our room Halloweenish just for them.
I guess we'll see if they tell me to take it down.
andicat
07-17-2002, 06:00 PM
Thanks, momto2dkids. That's what I plan on doing - decorating the room myself right after boarding. Sounds like it will be okay. I just LOVE Halloween and want to surround myself with the Halloween atmosphere. I know this cruise is going to be SO MUCH FUN!

Hi Taswira,
Thanks for telling me about this thread......
We will be sailing on the Wonder on October 31, our first Disney Cruise. We will have with us DD (16) and DS (7) and would like to know other cruisers with kids those ages or close to them. Any tips would be appreciated!

For those <B>adults</B> who plan to dress in costume for Halloween: Are you wearing your Halloween costume to dinner that first night (31st)? We have late dinner seating and figure the adult Halloween party probably starts right after that. I was curious about whether it would be appropriate to go to dinner in costume. What do you think?
taswira

Are you wearing your Halloween costume to dinner on the 31st? Anyone?
momto2dkids
08-01-2002, 11:04 AM
taswira,
My family and I were thinking about wearing our costumes to dinner. Since we have our children, we have early seating for dinner and we might be cutting it close time wise if we don't get ready before hand.
It also might depend on what rotation we have for meals.

Ooops! I thought I answered this. THANK You, momto2dkids! I think Michael (my adult nephew) is going to be something "gothic" and probably won't be <I>too</I> strange. He actually has a realistic (as in <I>well</I> over a thousand dollars) Star Wars "Storm Trooper" costume that he wanted to bring, but there would be no place to put it in our stateroom and us still be able to walk around! Besides, he admitted it would be WAY too hot and uncomfortable (maybe like all those Disney characters!). I don't know yet what I will be, but it will have to be something I can wear to dinner. We're likely to have the TAP rotation again, but I think Triton's will expect some unusual attire on Halloween eve!

Hi taswira,
How are you doing?
We are becoming more excited all the time, just like Christmas Eve as a child(well i'm no longer a child but still get that "Can't sleep" excitment every year).
I have already booked the dolphin swim for myself and DD in Nassau. Still working out final choices for the costumes, but no it will all come together.
Take care

Taswira and others,
I was thinking of surprising my kids with a Halloween cruise. I just can't wait for next October. If I empty out the change jar, I can probably make a dent in the price (it's a BIG jar). I think I just need a little encouragement from you guys to send that email to DU.
Am I right that there are no more Castaway Club discounts anymore?
taswira
08-10-2002, 08:42 PM
Hey, jmalk!!! YES!! Just DO IT! I'm taking my nephew on this one as his birthday present, but he's an airline pilot and will be turning 35. I don't expect him to spend much time with me, but that's okay. He's never been on a cruise before, and we both love Halloween and Disney. I'm sure your kids would love this one also. So empty out the jar and JOIN us!
taswira
08-10-2002, 08:45 PM
Forgot to answer your question. You are right. There are no more CC discounts unless you book onboard. But if you are a Disney Club member, you can at least get the $50 onboard credit if you give them your card number when you make your ressie. It's better than nothing. And DU may give you a discount or credit also.

08-10-2002, 10:07 PM
Well, add three more to your group picture! My DD 12, and DS 10, and I will be joining you.
What is the best way to get the cheapest price for the Radisson for the night before? I think I remember seeing someone got a Fall special for $59. Anyone have info on this?
jmalk
08-10-2002, 10:09 PM
By the way, I joined the Disney club for $32.00 to get a $50.00 credit. I'm saving money!
taswira
08-10-2002, 10:31 PM
Sounds great! I don't know the details of the Radisson deal. I know there is a thread here somewhere about it, but I couldn't find it. I can try to check it out tomorrow if you don't find anything, or you could send a PM to "peagreen." I know she booked the $59 rate just a few days ago for early November.
jmalk
08-10-2002, 10:35 PM
Never mind, I did a search and found the thread, but the best I could do was $79. I will PM peagren. It will be worth the extra $ to meet all my fellow DISers. Now...what to pack?
taswira
08-10-2002, 10:39 PM
Haven't you cruised DCL before? If you've done a 7-day, just cut your list in half, and leave off the "formal" stuff. Semi-formal or somewhat dressy is good for Triton's, but if you end up at Triton's on Halloween night, a Halloween costume should suffice! ;)
jmalk
08-11-2002, 04:00 AM
It seems clothes are usually the least of my worries. I need to have the essential over the door shoe holder. Then there's sunscreen, cameras, underwater cameras, snorkel gear, phone cards, bubbles, etc. Last time it seemed I had one suitcase with no clothes, just junk. Then there are the costumes...
Since I seem in good company here with my obsessive overplanning, I feel almost normal. But in the outside world...
taswira
08-11-2002, 09:45 AM
I'm sure I'm FAR from the norm when it comes to packing, whether here or in the "outside" world ;-). It all began when I started leading a few safaris each year and every item was a concern. So now I do this for cruises also. On my little iPaq PDA, I have three lists for DCL packing: 3 day, 4 day, 7 day. Each list has <I>all</I> the items I take in my carry-on (including a small wallet-on-a-string type purse that holds passport and essentials) and one checked rollaboard bag. Below the "packing" list I also list each item I plan to wear each day . . like "Day 1 - Embarkation . . " and "Day 1 - Dinner . . ". It may sound obsessive, but it WORKS! I do this every time I pack for <I>anywhere</I>. If it's a repeat trip, like a cruise, it usually needs no modification. I always have everything I need, wear everything I brought, and don't end up with <I>anything</I> I didn't wear or need. If I buy something new to bring, it replaces something on the list. I know I'm not the <I>only</I> one who does this, but I'd guess there might be <I>one</I> out of every <I>several thousand</I> who is this "unconventional" (Okay - "strange," but it sure saves stress about forgetting anything or lugging something I never use). The only "wrench" this time is Halloween, because <I>that</I> means a COSTUME! :bounce:

08-11-2002, 05:59 PM
Tas, those of us who have had the pleasure of your acquaintance know that you ARE unconventional, strange AND obsessive about having everything well-organized, but it's all part of what makes you so amusing . . uh, I mean . . interesting! Not all of us are so organized or carry a PDA. I try to figure what I'll need and I throw it all in a suitcase. I use a small daypack as a carry-on. I don't even do a list. If there is anything I need that I didn't bring, it will give me an excuse to indulge in my favorite sport - SHOPPING! My only cruise so far has been Carnival. I am SO looking forward to Disney! And Tas - don't forget to call me when you get back to FL so we can do the parks together again. I hope you're not mad at my post about Capt. Tom. You never replied.
And jmalk - Welcome, WELCOME to you and yours! We're so glad you've decided to board the Halloween Wonder!

I am looking forward to meeting all you guys. I feel like this is going to be some kind of reunion. What do you want me to bring?
But really, did you guys decide to do any Halloween things? I was thinking about getting some of those glow in the dark necklaces for all the (young and old) kids. Do we bring trick or treat stuff? Maybe we could make up treat bags to drop off for the kids at their rooms. What do you think?

Welcome jmalk,
It's nice to see others joining in(slowly :) ) for the cruise. I am bringing several things to decorate our cabin with, but had wondered if we should bring other small items like candy, small toy's and the like for any kids that might be trick-or-treating. If anyone knows for sure please let the word out.
Looking forward to meeting and cruising with you all!!

Looks like it's all coming together! Our cruise is <I>fast</I> approaching. Yes, I plan to bring a few Halloween things in addition to my costume (which is <I>still undecided</I>!). As for trick-or-treating, I was wondering if anyone knows DCL's policy on that? If we bring any type of food to give to the kids, and then <I>any</I> child gets sick for <I>any</I> reason, there might be some liability involved. But small toys and such, maybe adding some of those cookies from the ship, would probably be a nice idea. I <I>think</I> DCL actually has some sort of trick-or-treating for the kids, with treats that <I>they</I> provide (or so I've heard). Supposedly there is also an adult Halloween party separate from the children. But we DISers <I>could</I> all get together for a Halloween celebration also. I wonder if they will have a Spooky Sail-Away Deck Party? I love those deck parties!
And <B>andicat</B>: Don't worry. I am not mad at you for the Captain Tom remark nor for your reference to my obsessive organization. I'll be back in FL on 15 Oct. and will call you the next day so we can do WDW and MT. :p
jmalk
08-12-2002, 04:03 AM

<B>Just a reminder of DCL's Halloween plan:</B>
From Guest Services: "<I>Onboard, featured events will include Family Trick-Or-Treating, as well as themed parties for the children and for the teens. For adults, we offer a Halloween Party with Costume Contest with prizes being awarded to the best of the best. Guests of all ages are encouraged to bring their costumes</I>!"
<B>Kids:</B> Could we maybe get a "head count" of the DISer kids on this cruise, and their ages (names not necessary)? That way those of us bringing things to add to their trick-or-treating will know better what might be appropriate. It's just an idea and if no one wants to that's fine, but it would also help those who are looking for DIS kids the same age as theirs.
<B>Adults:</B> Are any of you going "all out" and entering the Costume Contest? I hadn't planned on anything <I>spectacular</I> for myself. I want to be able to wear it to dinner on Halloween. I guess for the contest originality would be the big plus. But what is the prize for "best of the best?" A cruise? :teeth:
<B>DIS Group Photo:</B> We only had a few replies from those willing to be in a DIS group photo (on Halloween in costume?). Anyone else?
Please keep this thread going. We need to keep it visible for anyone else joining us, as well as keep in touch!

Thanks for the list, Tas! You can remove the possibility of my BF from your next update. He is adamant about not going. That's okay. I'll find plenty of fun without him!
Have you guys seen the latest Disneystore Catalog? The Fall 2002 one arrived in my mailbox today and it is spectacular! Has a little (lots) of EVERYTHING. For anyone on our Halloween cruise with infants or toddlers, there are some FANTASTIC costumes for them in this catalog. Look through the whole catalog because they are scattered. Almost (but not quite!) makes me wish I had one (a toddler).
It seems there are just a few of us posting, but lots of people on this cruise. It would be fun to hear from everyone about their planning and stuff. Lurkers?

Hello all 'Wonder"ful Halloween cruisers!
Taswira, my DD will actually be closer to nine by the time we sail(she might be somewhat upset with me if I listed her age as 8 since she is technically now 8 and the BIG 1/2):)
Does anyone know when we should start looking at getting our cruise documentation in the mail?
I, too, received the new Disney catalog and it does have some great costumes in it for both children and adults, the only problem is quite a few seem like they would take up quite a bit of space in a suitcase to pack. Since we are doing the land/sea package our suitcases will probably be pretty full already so I am trying to find costumes that take the least amount of space.
Take care all! :) :)

taswira,
Thanks for all the work organizing all the stats for the Wonder Halloween cruise.
When I updated my DD's age I neglected to point out that my very DM(mother) is also going on the trip with us. If you happen to update the list before we leave, I would appreciate if you would add her. She is and has been so excited for the trip. She says she hasn't been to Disney World(only MK then) since she took my sister and myself when I was around 9 and she is very nostalgic about going back and experiencing it again not only with me but with her grandchildren. It brings joy to my heart and tears to my eyes when I think of the wonderful time we will all have and the memories my children will have of the whole experience, but especially that grandma was with them.

I LIKE the web page you posted for the list Tas! That's better than listing everything on the board as it grows BIGGER. Maybe you could add more info like where each DISer is staying and what days they might be at WDW if they're doing that, or even what dates they will do Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party because some are bound to be there, right? For those who don't know, Tas and I are doing MNSSHP on the 27th. Since we are passholders we'll get there around 5 for the passholder pre-party!

Taswira,
Thanks for the list and link. I still haven't told the kids we are going. I don't know if I should just have them dropped off at the airport or tell them in advance. Anyone else planning a surprize?

My family and I are looking at attending the MNSSHP on the 27th as well. We are doing the land/sea package and the land portion starts that day with the cruise to follow on the 31st. I hope it is as fun as it looks. Our kids are so excited they are telling everyone they know that they get to go trick or treating with Mickey Mouse this Halloween. It should be a blast for all.

taswira,
Yes, please add us to your list for the MNSSHP.
Since you've cruised before I was wondering if you remembered when you received your cruise documents prior to the cruise. Was it just a few weeks or more like a month or so out?
It all seems like a dream, I guess I figure that when I have the documents in hand and can touch and see them it will all feel more real.

Thanks! The updated list is posted <a href="http://www.primateprojections.com/travel/DISlist.html">HERE</A>. Scroll down to see the MNSSHP list so far.
I have received excursion forms 2 months out, and my actual cruise documents 2 weeks out or slightly sooner. I am always worried about not being here (Idaho) when they arrive, since I spend much of my time in FL. So I have them sent to my FL address.

You now have a asterisk on the list, <B>arkiepaula</B>! I figured (Hey - I'm not REALLY "in charge," so everyone feel free to chime in with suggestions!) that we'd do the group shot on Halloween night (evening). My idea was for a photo of our big (I think there are 46 so far but not everyone has said they'd be in the pic) DIS group in costume, but even if you are NOT in costume, please join us! The exact time of the photo will depend on availability of Shutters (since I planned to ask them to photograph us all and then we can also shoot a few ourselves), PLUS the dining times. I thought we should wait until closer to the cruise to decide a time, after we know <I>for sure</I> if they are sticking to the new dining times or not. Opinions please?

Am I correct in my count of 18 kids? I was hoping we could meet at the same place for the sail away party, or at least sometime before the gala festivities begin.
taswira
08-27-2002, 07:22 PM
I think there may be <I>19</I> kids. Maybe I mis-counted. But YES, we <I>should</I> all get together before the sailaway! If they keep the new earlier dining times, early seating will be 5:30 and I heard they have an "abbreviated" :( sailaway party, right? I LOVE :teeth: the sailaway - and ALL the deck parties. I guess we could meet somewhere either around 3 p.m., or just after 4:30 - after the safety drill but before sailaway. What do you think?
momto2dkids
08-27-2002, 09:49 PM
Meeting before or at sail away party sounds like a great idea to me. We do have early seating so it might be tight between the safety drill and getting in costumes and ready for dinner, but we are planning on going to as much of the sail away party as we can. I am really looking forward to hearing the infamous Disney horn. I planning on bring some regular bubbles or even the new 'catch a bubble' bubbles that last longer for the kids and us kids at heart to use for the sail away.
taswira
08-27-2002, 11:34 PM
What are the "catch a bubble" bubbles? Where do you get them? Not having kids, I'm sort of out of the loop, but still a kid at heart! :Pinkbounc
momto2dkids
08-28-2002, 09:28 AM
taswira,
From the back of label-"Catch-a-Bubble is a breakthrough in bubble technology. These bubbles magically harden when they come in contact with air making them stronger and longer lasting! For best results, blow the bubbles slightly upwards into the air and let them harden for a few seconds before touching them. Then try catching and stacking them to form a pile of bubbles!"
They are 100% water soluble and non-toxic.
I think they are made by Spin Master Toys, www.spinmaster.com
I have seen them at Toys-R-Us, Walmart, and various drug stores.
We found ours at Costco several months ago in a pacage of 8 or 10.
My kids love them and the bubbles really do last a long time.
Let me know if you can't find any where you are at and I will pick up some for you.
kimber79

I think that is a terrific idea to meet before the sailaway party! Unfortunately, we too have early dining so we might be pressed for time but would like to at least meet to say "HI"!
At first time was ticking ever so slowly, but now it is moving along so quickly I can't stand it!! I am sooooo excited! :)
See you all soon..............

<B>momto2dkids</B> - Thanks for the info on the bubbles! When in Idaho (as I am right now) I am sort of "in the boonies," but there is a big Walmart Superstore here so I'll check there. They sound much better than regular bubbles. :)
<B>Kim</B> - I guess we <I>still</I> don't know for certain if DCL will decide to stick with the new dining times. If they don't, it will be better for the sailaway party (won't be "abbreviated") and for those with early dining. Being on late seating, I am <I>happy</I> about the 7:45 time, but it does seem to cause a few problems.
On <B><a href="http://www.primateprojections.com/travel/DISlist.html">our list</A></B> - How does everyone feel about letting me know their dining times so I can note that? I assume nearly everyone is on early seating since there are a lot of kids among our DIS group. How about anyone who is on <I>late</I> seating letting me know and I will put that on the list? I know - my nephew and I may be the <I>only</I> ones . . :jester:
momto2dkids

taswira,
I found a couple of website that sell Catch-a-Bubbles.
www.worldofmagic.net is seling a 3pk for $10.99.
www.toyd.com is selling a 5pk for $15.99.
You might also try Toy-R-Us/Amazon online and see if they are selling them.
We have been buying them since early spring and love them. They can get a bit messy when they do finally pop by leaving a residue (sometimes in my kids hair), but all we've had to do is brush or wash it away with no problems. The kids love chasing them around trying to catch as many as they can. Our neighbors were amazed to see lots and lots of bubbles floating over our fence and commented on our long they lasted. Of course we had to do a little advertising for the bubbles.
Hope you are able to find them, but again, if you can't just let me know and I will pick some up for you.

Sorry...haven't checked these boards in while....but yes I am Sarah the one Matt (n0pa) is referring to. We are a young couple and do not have any kids, so it is the two of us for our second Disney cruise on the October 2002 Wonder. Since we don't have any kids we have the late seating since it worked well for us on our first cruise.
We would be happy to join in the DIS group Halloween picture as we are looking forward to wearing our hopefully unique Halloween costumes. We are curious if everyone will be in costume for dinner that evening because we were planning on wearing ours!?!
Also, just a quick note...I think it would be helpful if there was a link for the Oct. 31 Halloween cruise thread on the page that Taswira created, just so that it is easily accesible to read the lateset posts!
-Just an idea! Well looking forward to the cruise, I will check in soon again!

Sarah - I am also at late seating . . happily had it on two cruises this year and decided I'll stick to it. I've never had kids. My grown nephew will be with me. He's an airline pilot and celebrates his 35th B'Day in October. We will both be in costume for Halloween. I think he plans to be something "Gothic" so I'll probably end up being something along those lines also. I don't know. If you read some of my earlier posts I mentioned his authentic Star Wars Storm Trooper outfit, but since that would have to arrive in a separate crate and would be unwieldy on the ship, he's not going that route! I don't think <I>everyone</I> will be in costume at dinner, but I hope to be. If you and Matt are "unique," you may end up winning the costume contest at the Halloween Bash! :jester:

Sarah, are you celebrating your birthday onboard? If so, I'll put a "B'Day" by your name on the list! My nephew's is Oct. 19, but since I am taking him on this cruise for his birthday present (I haven't given him one in years so I'm making up for it!), I'm having the servers do the little cake thing on Halloween, and I ordered some room decorations.

That's my problem too. My nephew wanted me to dress in something like a tattered Gothic gown. I don't know. THAT sounds like it would require an extra suitcase!
Also, I don't know if I will wear the same costume for MNSSHP that I will on the ship. I'm still trying to decide.:Pinkbounc

We are not sure where we are staying!!! Currently we have a reservation at the Radisson but are thinking about cancelling and stay at the Holiday Inn or Express whatever is there.
We can use a free night and the park at the ship. The Hoilday and parking would be a cheaper with the free night.
We are wondering what the parking is like at the ship. How far away, where do you unload baggage, etc.

If you drive to the port, you can unload your luggage directly in front of the terminal. There are baggage handlers there who will take care of it all, as long as you have the proper DCL luggage tags affixed to each piece. If you want to park at the port, parking is across the street and is $8 per day for passenger cars. Since I tend to arrive before the baggage handlers are out, I park first, then wheel my own luggage over to the terminal. But then, I travel light, with just one medium-sized wheeled bag and a small carry-on. During increased security times (You never know), they discontinued the front-of-terminal drop-off and instead had a vehicle that picked up luggage in the parking lot. Someone else can advise you about the hotel/car situation, as I always drive down from my part-time home in Daytona Beach.
Let us know when you decide where you are staying. :)

taswira,
How do you find out how "booked" a particular cruise will be?
Did you ever find the catch-a-bubbles?
taswira
09-04-2002, 04:47 PM
momto2dkids - I am a part-time TA. Yesterday my booking engine showed at least 8 in Cat. 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9, plus the two recently reclassified "obstructed" Cat 7 on Deck 7 (that are not <I>really</I> Navigator Verandah rooms), as well as GTY for Cat 10 and 11. Then I called DCL to inquire about booking a small group for next spring, and was told there is LOTS of availability of verandah staterooms on Oct. 31 (except just those two obstructed Cat. 7). I guess a lot of people are choosing to stay home for Halloween! Given those stats, I would not be at all surprised if there MIGHT be some upgrades at check-in from the lower categories. It's a <I>possibility</I>.
I spoke with my sister in Daytona Beach. She said she's pretty sure she saw those bubbles at WalMart there, so I'll check it out mid-October when I get back there, instead of toting them from Idaho. Thanks!

Thanks for the info taswira. I've wondered about how booked the ship might be and have read other posts where other DIS'ers were trying to find the same info on the cruise the were going on.
There's another question since you always seem to know the answer(or at the very least know where to find it) and you seem to go WDW frequently. How busy do you thinks the parks will be around Halloween time to include regular park hours and the MNSSHP? What I really want to know is how long the lines seem to be for things, both adult and, if you know, children's. The vacation is going to wonderful regardless but it would be nice to not have to wait to long for rides, character meet and greets and such.
Thanks!!!:p
taswira
09-04-2002, 07:03 PM
Weekends throughout October are likely to be crowded, with adults and kids, especially because Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is going on, and many families may hit the park in the daytime and then MNSSHP that evening. (No such thing as overdose, right?). Of course, even on weekends, the key to beating the crowd is getting there early! Weekdays (except Friday) should not be nearly as bad. Most kids will be in school. But Florida in October (as long as there isn't a hurricane) is much better than Florida in the summer. It is a good vacation time.

I was thinking about bringing something other than candy for the kids on board the ship. What is everyone's thoughts on the number of children that will be on board? 50, 100, more?
Thanks

There might be many, many more children than that! - unless nobody takes their kids out of school.:p FYI: I don't know what you are considering bringing, but just in case - DCL's FAQ states the following - -
"<I>Homemade items or pre-cooked items purchased on the way to the ship will not be allowed to be brought aboard. Also, open bags or containers of snack items should not be brought aboard ship</I>."
DCL apparently plans to have some sort of trick-or-treating for the kids onboard. There may be liability problems if guests are distributing food items or candy they brought themselves. I'm not sure, but that's my impression.

Okay, folks - New question here: How many of you on our Halloween Wonder (adults and or kids) plan to participate (as in SING) at "Family Karaoke" at <I>Studio Sea</I> or at "Krazy Karaoke" at <I>Wavebands</I>? And if so, do you know which song you want to sing?

09-06-2002, 01:05 PM
Hi everybody! It has been a while since I checked in. I am way behind on the goings-on. I hope to do karaoke tas! I want to do a Cher song if they have any. My voice is suited for that I think. To update you the bad news is I went to the doc and was told I may need to have my appendix removed! I do not want to do that before the cruise. Hey tas I love your new sig pic with Mickey. I know you are married but your DH almost never travels with you so it must be tough getting a date! Mickey always looks happy and smiling and has perfect manners. That's about the best escort a girl could ask for!
taswira
09-06-2002, 05:23 PM
Sorry about your appendix, Andicat. I still have mine. How long does it take to recover? If it needs to come out, I would think it should be done BEFORE the cruise! As for my picture: Don't tell Mickey, but the REAL love of my life is CHIP. :earseek: I pursue him on the ship, on CC, at the parks and character meals . . . :jester: So does anyone else plan to participate in the Karaoke activities?
Hola
If watching can be considered "participating"..... then count me in !!!
taswira
09-07-2002, 07:00 PM
Watching? Oh, come on, rere - give it a go! Or you could do as I do. You could sit on the sidelines and sing all the songs during karaoke, while <I>someone else</I> is performing using a mike! Truth be told, I have always wanted to do karaoke on the ship, but <I>Wavebands</I> can get really thick with cigarette smoke by the time it starts, and I find my voice getting hoarse and weak. Besides, they do the "shooters" thing there and I doubt I could handle that! It's hilarious to observe, though. I would have tried <I>Studio Sea</I>, but that was "Family Karaoke" and I was solo. I think I'll at least take a look there this time. I only asked the question because karaoke <I>seems</I> to be very popular, so I thought a few Halloween Wonder DISers might be up for it! :Pinkbounc
Hola Taswira.....The smoke will give me a headache.......it might be fun to check out the family thing though...at Studio Sea ?

Hi, rere! Yes, Family Karaoke is at <I>Studio Sea</I>. No smoking allowed. :teeth: As for the goings-on at <I>Wavebands</I>, it's very entertaining so I <I>try</I> to catch the various events, but that smoke <I>really</I> irritates me so I don't usually last too long in there. It's too bad they can't have a better ventilation system and more separation of smokers and non-smokers. Oh, well . . . We can always hope there won't be many smokers on the cruise. :)

For those of you on our cruise who have indicated they will be at MNSSHP on Oct. 27 - - 2disneywego has posted about a DIS Meet as follows:
"<I>This started on another board, but we're asking here too.
We're trying to get as many people as we can for a mini-meet during MNSSHP on 10/27/02, around the Buzz Lightyear ride at 9:30 pm.</I>"
If the link works, the post is <a href="http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=2349966#newpost">HERE</A>. I'm going to try to make the mini-meet. My DN and I have ressies at LTT at 7:05.

So what is everyone doing to get ready? Does everyone (except me!) have their costumes decided? Are you starting to pack yet? My problem is that I am in Idaho until Oct. 15, and nearly everything I am taking on the cruise is at my other residence in Florida. So I have to <I>wait</I> to pack! But I have my PDA full of lists - packing checklist, Halloween Wonder DISer List, ToDo list, expense list, etc. The DIS list I have posted is also on my PDA that I'll be bringing.

Wow Tas, you are way organized!! To have so many lists going already, and we are still over a month out.............. actually, I have had somewhat of a "to bring" list going, but this is our 1st cruise and I would hate to forget anything all these wonderful DIS members have suggested to bring with!
I am still racking my brain as to what to do for costumes!? As for packing, there is no way I can be started with this feat yet! The seasons are soon to change here though, so I may as well put clothes in suitcase versus pack away for winter :D
Have a WONDERful weekend!!

Hello, I have been lurking on this thread for awhile and finally worked up the courage to post as I am a lurker at heart. My sister and I will be on this cruise also. We are taking advantage of the $99 special and thought Halloween would be a fun time to cruise as we were planning on WDW and MNSSHP anyway. We are going to do MNSSHP Sunday the 30th and wanted to thank the poster who mentioned the AP party as we didn't know anything about but have since changed our plans so we could attend. I wanted to thank everyone who has posted as I have learned so much from all of you but I do have a question if I may ask? Do I need our birth certificates for this cruise like the 7 day?
I have looked on the board but have not been able to find the answer. We are looking forward to the trip and we can't wait for a few relaxing days.
Rose
Hola Rose,

<B>Welcome, Rose</B>! May I add you and your sister to our online <B><a href="http://www.primateprojections.com/travel/DISlist.html">Halloween Wonder DIS List</A></B>? Do you have early or late seating for dinner? Are you willing to be in our DISer group photo? Costume is encouraged but not required.
I believe I was the poster who mentioned the AP party, which runs from 5 to 7 just before MNSSHP opens to others. I can't recall the dates for the AP party other than the 27th, and I can't find my Mickey Monitor at the moment. But if I mentioned the 30th for AP then it is included. I guess you know that a current annual pass is required in addition to separate entry pass for MNSSHP.
And YES, you still need your birth certificates, original with raised seal, unless you have a valid passport.
<B>Kim</B> - I'm an obsessive organizer, always have been. But I don't pay much attention to what most posters advise to bring or not bring, because my "system" is tried and true. I use or wear everything I bring and I never wish I <I>had</I> brought something that I didn't. If I ever change it, it would probably "break" my "system." However, I <I>have</I> added Catch-A-Bubbles to my list! And I know what you mean by change of seasons, since I am currently in IDAHO. :jester:

<B>Rose</B> - They are NOT having the AP pre-party on the 30th. It is only on the 20th and the 27th. I still haven't found my Mickey Monitor, but the info was at the bottom of the <B><a href="http://www.primateprojections.com/travel/DISlist.html">Halloween Wonder DIS List</A></B>. So are you still going on the 30th, or did you mean that you had changed your plans to the 27th?

What are Catch A Bubbles ???
taswira
09-13-2002, 09:08 PM
<B>rere</B> - momto2dkids posted about them some time ago on this thread. Quote from her post when <I>I</I> asked what they were: "<I>From the back of label-"Catch-a-Bubble is a breakthrough in bubble technology. These bubbles magically harden when they come in contact with air making them stronger and longer lasting! For best results, blow the bubbles slightly upwards into the air and let them harden for a few seconds before touching them. Then try catching and stacking them to form a pile of bubbles!" They are 100% water soluble and non-toxic. I think they are made by Spin Master Toys, www.spinmaster.com. I have seen them at Toys-R-Us, Walmart, and various drug stores. We found ours at Costco several months ago in a pacage of 8 or 10."</I>
My sister said she thought she saw them at WalMart in Daytona Beach (my other home), so I'm going to try to get some when I get down there.

Yes, you may add us to the list. We have early seating for this cruise. I'll check with my sister on the photo but for now I'm thinking she'll say no. We won't be in costume. We are staying at the BCV before the cruise and flying down so I don't know where I would put a costume as I am not a light packer.

Thank you for the info. I had my dates confused. We will be doing the party on the 27th- the day we fly in and we already have our AP vouchers purchased at the Disney Store and will activate them when we arrive.

Also Rose, I don't know if you read this entire thread, but someone else is organizing a DIS mini-meet that night at MNSSHP, in front of Buzz Lightyear at 9:30 p.m. I plan to attend. My (adult) nephew and I are having dinner at LTT at 7:05. That means the poster is "bumping" the thread so it will appear listed on the first page again. That way new visitors to the board can easily find it, since many never venture beyond the first couple of pages. Some people do it just to easily find their own thread, but if our cruisers have bookmarked our <B><a href="http://www.primateprojections.com/travel/DISlist.html">Halloween Wonder DIS List</A></B>, they can reach the thread from the link there. It's still a good idea to "bump" it once in awhile, so those who may have just booked our cruise can find us! :teeth:

Congrats on the docs, rere! I don't have mine yet. In fact, I called DCL to try to get an idea of when they might arrive (since it can be anywhere from 6 weeks to 10 days ahead), because I'm trying to have them delivered to wherever I am. They were scheduled to go to my FL address, but when I spoke to a CM she said they <I>should</I> (no guarantees) go out by the first, so I then told them to send to my ID address. She said if I didn't get them by the 1st, to call back every day for their status and change the address again if needed. What a pain! I also have to worry about docs for my Nov. 10 cruise. Same situation. They may arrive before I head for FL on the 15th, but they may not. They don't allow you to pick them up in Celebration, for security reasons. If no one is there to receive them, they go back to DCL. And I DON'T want to pick them up at the DCL terminal the day of the cruise, because you never know when they might choose to increase security even more and it could become a problem to show up without the complete docs. So . . . Wish me luck, folks!
I am wishing you lots of good luck for both sets of docs...............wishing, wishing, wishing.....:)

The good news is my docs arrived today. :teeth: The bad news is they misspelled my name. :( Since it would not match the name on my passport and DL, it would not be acceptable. The good news is that I called and they said they will FedEx new docs to me later today with the corrected name.:) It turns out they had changed the spelling of my name for my next <I>three</I> cruises because they had erroneously changed it for Castaway Club. It is now (supposedly) corrected in their system. I am REALLY grateful that I called and had them switch the mailing address for Halloween docs to here in Idaho. Otherwise I would not have known about the error until I arrived at my other home in Daytona Beach! Since this is Friday, I guess I can expect the new docs Monday or (more likely) Tuesday.

<B><font color="blue">QUOTE</font></B>
"<I>During your voyage, we will host themed events for all ages and feature Trick-or-Treating throughout the ship. Though not required, we encourage Guests of all ages to bring along their costumes for these special events. More information on themed party dates, times and locations will be available onboard in the Personal Navigator that will be delivered to your stateroom. All Guests are invited to wear costumes, however, we ask that you choose costumes which are not obstructive or offensive. Do you think <I>maybe</I> the costume contest won't be on Halloween or maybe they'll spread Halloween events over the entire cruise? We were on the 4 day Wonder cruise that encompassed Halloween last year. It was fun for the kids since they had a number of trick or treating stations scattered about the ship.
However, do yourself a favor if you are there (WDW) during one of the Mickey's Notso Scary Halloween nights. They close the entire Magic Kingdom early so that they can decorate, etc. in a total Halloween motiff. That really was AWESOME. We are cruising in NOV and the one thing that we regret is not being in the park on Halloween.
You'll enjoy the ship on Halloween but the Kingdom RULES.

WELCOME, tinlizzy! <B><a href="http://www.primateprojections.com/travel/DISlist.html">CLICK HERE</A></B> to get to our <B><a href="http://www.primateprojections.com/travel/DISlist.html">Halloween Wonder DIS List</A></B>. I will add you in the next few minutes! Those with an asterisk by their name have agreed to be in our DIS group Halloween photo, whether in costume or not. We have not yet determined the time and place. A lot will depend on the schedule in the <I>Personal Navigator</I>, which will differ from the norm since it is Halloween. I suggested the 3 p.m. meet on the Deck 7 "secret aft verandah" after boarding, so we can determine the time and place for the picture.
If you scroll down the <B><a href="http://www.primateprojections.com/travel/DISlist.html">list</A></B> you will get to the listing of those of us attending Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at MK on the 27th. Where a couple of us have "AP Party" next to our names, that means we are annual pass holders and will attend the pre-party at MNSSHP. A paragraph near the bottom of that page tells about that. At the very bottom of that page is the "cruise countdown," and there is a link to this thread from the top and bottom.
Which dinner seating do you have?

We have late dinner seating and are in a Cat 7 on 5. I'm not much of a costume person but love the holiday. Hola, rere! My fave stateroom is <B><a href="http://www.primateprojections.com/travel/DCL/7628/">7628</A></B>. I stayed in it in May. Next year on the Magic I'll be in that one for the western - but it will have the rounded open porthole not as big as on the Wonder. Nothing wrong with Deck 5 though. It will be interesting being a little closer to the water.;)
The last I heard (this afternoon), Hurricane Isidore was hurling 105 mph winds at western Cuba and then heading into the southwestern Gulf of Mexico and looked to be much less a threat to Florida than first believed. Does anyone in our Halloween Wonder group live in its path? If so, please keep us posted.

You know, rere - On my first DCL cruise I had a Cat 5 regular verandah, mid-ship, Deck 7. I loved it. But that was on DCL's Cruise College (for TAs) and I got the grand tour of various categories. One look at that Nav. Verandah and I was sold! If it's windy or rainy, you can still enjoy the verandah. I love the cushioned bench, cushioned chair, all the nautical touches. It's just a special, cozy atmosphere but still the same size verandah. It all depends on what you like though. Some people would not be happy with it I guess, if they really prefer the total openness. If the regular and Nav. Verandahs were the same price, I'd still pick the Nav. But that's just me!
What really surprised me when I toured the different categories was my first (and only) look at an inside cabin. It was so much better than I had imagined, because I'd seen pictures and heard stories of the little "closet cabins" on other ships. I think Disney does it well in ALL categories!
Hola Taswira
I still haven't convinced everyone in my party to wear costumes, and I'm getting frustrated trying to think of something. I may just "decorate" myself for Halloween and stop stressing....this is supposed to be a vaca, right ?

rere - Even a slight change is a costume, right? ;) Some DISers on a thread for MNSSHP said they were going (to that) as DISers! I guess a lime green t-shirt and a few Disney items would suffice for that! Some people do nothing more than paint their face to be a mime. Hey - That would NEVER work because we all have to TALK to other DISers, right? The last I heard from my nephew, he plans to wear something "gothic" and wanted me to dress in a gothic-type gown. Personally, I was hoping to go as a zookeeper (which I once was), or a safari director (which I occasionally am), or a photographer (my primary profession along with p/t TA). Not too much of a stretch! Then I could wear my big dorky photo vest with all the pockets and not have to worry about where to put anything! LOL. Just kidding! Andicat was going to be Bat Girl but then I think she posted that she changed her mind. Costumes are for fun and give one a chance to be something they are not and to be creative with their appearance. But it is NOT required for anyone. You can still have FUN! I think the easiest is to just do something different with face makeup. That could be interesting. :smooth:
I was wondering - Has anyone heard from jmalk? Is she still with us? I hope so!

last year on the Wonder, most of the adults did NOT wear costumes of any sort and I'd say that at least 75% of the kids DID, most in some sort of Disney get up.. The trick or treating was really appreciated by my 7 and 4 year olds. You'll have lots of fun, they decorate the ship with cobwebs and have 'smoke' coming from many decks.

Yes, I would imagine most adults would not wear costumes because it's too much of a bother, and because a lot of adults are over their Peter Pan syndrome and may live vicariously through their children. :jester: Since I don't have kids (although I played a big part in raising my nephew), I have never lost that sense of magic and wonder (sic) and the thrill of letting my imagination soar and entering a fantasy world where one can "pretend" - just as in childhood. I even dress for Halloween at home so I can go to the door for the trick-or-treaters, and I decorate my home and yard to the max for them. They will all miss that this year when I am away, because my husband won't do anything for them but answer the door and give out candy.

You wouldn't believe what Tas does to her house at Halloween! The Halloween after I went on safari with her, she sent me some pictures because we'd been talking about it. I still have them. Her house in Idaho is surrounded by trees and shrubs. She puts cobwebs and spider webs on ALL of them, with a spider or two thrown in. She turns the front yard into a graveyard, with little pumpkin lights lighting the walkway leading to it. She said she has spooky music and sound effects playing from a boom box in the bathroom window at the top of her tri-level house, so it resonates. THEN she tells me she sits under the biggest tree in the "graveyard" dressed in some spooky black costume with a cloak covering a big black kettle full of candy. The kids supposedly don't notice her because it's so dark. They go to the door and no one answers. As they turn to leave, someone always see her and freaks out as she asks THEM, "Tick or treat?" ! Way COOL! Especially since she doesn't even have kids!

That's TRICK or treat, andicat! Yes, I <I>usually</I> do that, but sometimes it's too cold here and I just dress up and answer the door. My husband is into both wildlife conservation and hunting (yes, they <I>are</I> related!). But we have a bear skin with head and all - a bear he did not hunt but had to kill when it came into camp and was after the elk he shot. Anyway, one year I dragged this big bear on top of me and I went to the door like that. All the kids saw was the head and teeth and big paws with claws as I was all bent over under it. Talk about surprised! But I want to say that I did NOT do that for the really little kids. And when I did the graveyard thing, if the kids were little I just spoke to them up front to keep them from running scared. :)

The best part of Halloween growing up was of course trickortreating but as an adult it's remembering my grandmother in her 60's, who had naturally long black hair and long fingernails, painting them orange and dressing up like a witch....nasty fake wart, pointy black hat, black dress and higher heels then girls 1/4 her age would wear!
Taswira- I did buy tickets to MNSSHP this morning! As for a costume...I thought about just bringing one of my UPS uniforms and going as what I am....a UPS driver but this is vacation so NOT! I'll keep thinking.:) Oh and I have a goth tip for you....If you wear off black hose over regular hose it looks truly disgusting like decayed flesh.

tinlizzy - Sounds like your grandmother was really into it! That's great. I tried to be a witch once but since I'm blonde and blue-eyed and don't have long fingernails, well . . everything was against me! I think I go against the gothic look also. I REALLY want to be something else, not gothic. I don't know why it matters that much to my nephew. I'm sure he'll be going his own way on the ship. It's not like we are a couple, so I may just take a different costume route.
So GLAD you are coming to MNSSHP! I'll add you to the list. You ARE coming the 27th, right? I will probably wear a different costume or just do myself up as something somehow for that. I doubt that I'll be the same as I will on the cruise. Not sure yet. Time is passing quickly now so I'd better get my act together, huh?
Hola Y'All,
Tas.....You're no fun, if you don't scare the little ones !!!( Kidding, of course). At my house, I put a scary mask on, hide behind the door, put the spooky sounds on and jump out as the kids reach for the doorbell. The first year, I did feel bad, because a little kid practically fell backwards off the porch. But now all the kids know that something might jump out at the little ones, so they kind of stand behind them for protection (but they don't tell them ahead of time). I like the idea of the witchlady sitting under the tree, I might try that next year. I love Halloween.....it will be great on the Wonder, I'm sure....still mildly stressing over the costume.;)

Yes, I got MNSSHP for the 27th. Today I went out on the internet and bought costumes....cheapies but cute. I haven't told Grandma or my son so it will all be a surprise.......even the costumes!!

<B>rere</B> - If I'm answering the door on Halloween instead of sitting under the tree, I do the same as you. I hear the kids coming up the walkway because they're always talking about the decorations and the eerie music. As they are about to reach for the doorbell, I very SLOWLY (so that it creaks!) turn the doorknob and open the door. Since what they see is pretty strange, whether me under the bear or wearing a costume, they're usually pretty freaked! The little ones do hide behind the bigger ones, but sometimes there will be a parent who brings one or two tiny tots by themselves. Last year one lady brought an infant in costume that she was carrying. SO CUTE! But when they are <I>that</I> small, they don't know enough to be scared!
<B>tinlizzy</B> - WONDERful that you got costumes! I don't think you said whether you guys are willing to be in the group DIS picture. Let me know so I can asterisk your listing if you are. If you change your mind later it's okay. I'm just trying to get a general idea. We haven't even figured when the photo will be yet, but I have our <B><a href="http://www.primateprojections.com/travel/DISlist.html">Halloween Wonder DIS List</a></B> on my PDA so I'll have it with me.
This costume thing would not be so hard for me if my nephew wasn't worried about me "clashing" with him. If he was cruising with his girlfriend, who has long dark hair, they'd be a perfect gothic couple. :jester: I'm going to have a hard time if I go that route. But in any case, I'll be <I>something</I>. It just could be a few days before the cruise before I decide!

Thanks, Roberta! I updated the list!
Wouldn't it be great if FedEx sent an e-mail to us the day before they were delivering our documents? Or if DCL could e-mail us a tracking number? LOL. I'm staying glued to the house tomorrow, and possibly the next day, for my "re-issued" docs with my name corrected!
tinlizzy
09-22-2002, 03:44 PM
Sure the picture sounds great....add an asterisk. My docs have the address of my mother wrong...they put her down under my address....will that be a problem? Myself and DS are traveling w/ birth certificates but she has a passport/visa so I would think it would not matter. I think I'll ship the costumes down there via UPS (of course) and leave the mystery box sit in our room and let the suspense of the surprise MNSSHP build.

I'll add your asterisk as soon as I finish this post! :smooth:
Don't worry about the documents. DCL always lists the address of the primary person (who made the reservation) for ALL the addresses. Each person can then draw a line through that and hand write their own address next to it. No problem. That's what DCL told me the first time that happened. They did that again this time since my nephew is with me.

Yeah, I got my cruise docs!! Unfortunately I did not catch up with the Fed-Ex truck on Friday..............well, I caught a truck, but it was only a truck doing pick-ups :( I was leaving out of town, and wasted two hours trying to catch this truck only to come up empty. How crazy I am just to get those docs!! Anyways, my sister went to the center Saturday to pick up hers, mine and my moms! :p
Wow, we have got quite a group going!! It sure will be fun to meet everyone. I am trying to "convince" my family to dress for Halloween. So far I have no takers, but I am not done bugging them :teeth: I have an idea in mind, and I got a couple of "that might be fun, but I don't think so" and my DD (16) said "go ahead if you want, but you must be crazy if you think I am dressing up like that!" Yes Tas, I think that would be a good idea to meet for a quick minute to decide on a time and place for group photo.
Everyone, have a great week!! :D

So GLAD you got your docs, Kim! There is always anxiety until we have them in our hands. :jester: Everyone remember to check all their docs CLOSELY when they arrive. The address for everyone in your party will likely be the same as the person who made the reservations, and that's fine because DCL always says when you check in to just draw a line through it and write your own address if you want. What matters is the spelling of your name, as it has to exactly match that on your passport and driver's license, for each person. That's why I am STILL awaiting the arrival of my corrected docs. It was wishful thinking for today, as they sent them on Friday afternoon and since it's 2-day delivery and doesn't count the weekend, they should arrive tomorrow morning.
You know, Kim (and anyone else) - For the men and older boys in a group it would be easy for them to be the "Blues Brothers." Dark suit, sunglasses and hat and they've got it made. Another easy one would be "Men In Black." :bounce:

Kimber,
Kids do turn arounds given the right circumstances. My son is 11 and very much at that herd mentality stage. BUT when we were in NYC he stood on the median in the middle of Times Square with both hands in the air and yelled I love NY for posterity. And at a luau in Oahu he got in the kissing line..he RAN (lol) to the kissing line and kissed over 70 women of all ages. You should have your kids bring costumes and decide when they're there.
I really just can't wait!

Shari - The "Blues Brothers" would be fun! My dad would have fun doing that, but I know my brother and brother-in-law would more than likely not go for dressing up! As for us girls, I really want us to be M & M's! I think it would be fun for all of us to choose a color!! :teeth: (of course we have more people than colors!) Liz, this is why my DD thought it to be "uncool"!
Well, I am on my way home to look at my docs, as I haven't had a chance to yet being I was out of town! Have a great night.........

But Kim, there are more than one of each color in a bag of M & M's! :bounce: I think you should do it! Did you read about the categories for the costume contest? There is a group one also. Maybe you could have a lone aqua M & M (the color that didn't make it in the new color selection!) always trying to catch up to the rest. :p
Another idea for teens is to be a "rock star," whether modeled after a real or imaginary one.
tinlizzy
09-23-2002, 06:40 PM
Oh someone could be the "bag". Like you could be plain M&M w/ your kids. And your brother in-law could be the peanut M&M bag w/ his crew as peanut M&M's,etc...the babies could be mini-M&M's. What a hoot......M&M's are a great idea Kim!!!

I haven't been around the boards for awhile, I've been very busy. I am getting my kitchen remodeled, taking on new job duties, plus I have a new beau. So between painting, studying, and dating I have barely had time to work on our costumes, let alone spend time on the boards. What a wonderful problem to have eh? So now I'm waiting for the floor and countertops. I should be studying, but here I am.
Got our cruise docs, cant wait to go! Just need a few days to whip up the costumes, we should be all set! The kids still don't know, I'm pretty proud of myself for keeping the secret. I do have to get all their homework assignments from their teachers before we go. One more thing for the list. Whoo!
I did get glow necklaces for us all. How cool will we all look. By the way Shari, I found catch a bubble in 6-packs at Costco, but I forgot how much they were. I can check if you like. Just think, I'll see you all soon.

09-26-2002, 10:30 AM
<B>jmalk</B> - I am SO GLAD to see you post! I was seriously beginning to worry. We all need a break from the boards now and then (more than we care to admit!), but things <I>can</I> happen, so when someone is absent even a few weeks, it starts curious minds working overtime. Yes - the new boyfriend is PLENTY reason enough not to hang out on the DIS! Since if I am not on a photo shoot or safari, my other work is rather dull and involves being at a computer, I am sort of always checking in unless I am travelling.
I can't wait to see your costumes! Those are the disposables, right? I am torn in all directions over what to be - with my nephew telling me to be Gothic, my sister saying to be something Disney, DH saying "<I>Wear something you already have!</I>," and me wanting to wear something that is not too hot or heavy. I was going to get something here in ID, but that would mean hauling it to FL. Ah, decisions, decisions . . . But I LOVE Halloween! The necklaces sound great! My sister said she saw the Catch-A-Bubbles there in Daytona Beach, so I shouldn't have a problem getting them.
Can't wait to see everyone!

Well, the disposable costumes were three ideas ago. I'm currently in a "girl group" mode, but we'll see how that works out. Its difficult since the kids don't know we're going and my daughter thinks she's too grown up to dress up. It's funny, I don't think you're ever too old.
Thanks for the good wishes. And Kimber79, these things happen when you least expect them. By the way, what part of Michigan are you from?
Well, I better get started on the costumes, there are only five weeks left, and I'll probably go through six more ideas by then. If you don't hear too much from me, don't worry. But I will try to check in from time to time, and I'll see you at 3:00;)

Glad to see you on our thread again, Barbara!
Since we don't yet know the exact schedule for Halloween activities onboard, <font color="red">we plan to have a <B>BRIEF</B> DIS Meet at 3 p.m. at the Deck 7 Aft "secret verandah."</font> By that time everyone should have boarded and eaten and should have their Personal Navigator which will give us the schedule, yet it's an hour before the mandatory drill so shouldn't interfere with anything. The deck 7 aft verandah is not huge, but <font color="red">if everyone can have at least ONE member of the family show up there at 3, then we can choose a time for the group photo</font>. I will see if I can find out about Shutters availability after boarding. I don't think they usually open until later, but I'm sure I can find someone who can advise me of their availability.
The idea is to have Shutters take a group photo of all of us - maybe on the steps in the atrium. They will be happy to do so and there is never any obligation to buy the photo. Plus some of us can take a shot or two with our own cameras and just be missing from the picture!
We hope everyone will join us!
And Barbara - I had listed your DD as 8 but will change it to 9. There are other DISers onboard around the age of your kids. I'm sure they'll make friends!

My younger sister was home for the weekend, and we all went out to dinner for my grandmother's birthday last night. I said, "I'm glad you thought that, because you are going to dress up!!!!!" This is easier to convince my family than I thought it was going to be. Having received the corrected Halloween Wonder docs here in Idaho, DCL said they would try to get my November 10 cruise docs to me here before I leave for FL, and to call to check on them a few days before I leave here. Well, I was just informed by my sister that my Nov. docs arrived today - in Florida. Fortunately, she was there to sign for them. Working for an airline she is gone a lot. Speaking of appearances - I feel a bit uneasy that I'll be meeting some DISers for the first time at MNSSHP, when I'm done up for Halloween, and that <I>some</I> (such as alicat99, whom I probably won't see again until Cruisetoberfest II next year) will NOT see me on the Wonder in my "normal" state. I'm still not definite on which costume, but for my face will definitely go the makeup route, not a mask. I may look pretty strange!
Kim - Is your Halloween Wonder group going to be M&M's after all? I just can't wait to see everyone!

Can you believe that I have pretty much talked everyone into "playing along" with me, and now I am having a devilish time finding costumes. Now that I have "the family" willing to have some EXTRA fun by dressing on Halloween, we may have to think of another idea. Time is ticking fast, but never fear......we will dress somehow or other!! ;)
Weather is changing fast here, I am getting so excited to leave!! Unfortunately, I will be more ready to leave when there is snow everywhere BUT I will be stuck here!
Have a FANTASTIC day!!!!! :p :p :p :p :p

Kim - <B><a href="http://www.familyeducation.com/whatworks/item/front/0,2551,1-9696-7660-1,00.html">HERE</A></B> is a link to how to make a "Bag of M&Ms" costume. And no, I am not the "Shari" who contributed it! <B><a href="http://www.kidsturncentral.com/holidays/costumes/hcost2iii.htm">THIS PAGE</A></B> tells how to make an M&M costume, but has no pics. <B><a href="http://www.ssqq.com/information/images/hallo_99_thumbnail_016_118.jpg">HERE</A></B> is a pic of M&Ms I found, but no description.
For other ideas, you might check FabricLink <B><a href="http://www.fabriclink.com/closet.html">HERE</A></B>.

I booked thru DCL adding on the $99/night offer at the Dolphin. I haven't thought much about the cruise lately. This is our first visit to WDW and I've been busy hammering out an itinerary for our stay.
Can't wait to meet eveyone!

I have heard we have this "one time check-in" at the Poly. Does this mean that we show our birth certificates at the hotel and just go right on the ship?
Thanks!

I saw another thread on a longer cruise and I think I saw that they had "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". Does anyone know what movies we will have?

arkiepaula,
I've heard(read on these boards) the same thing regarding check in, namely that if you are doing the land portion of a land/sea vacation, that you check in once at the resort, showing all documents(passports/birth certificate/photo I.D.) at that time. You will receive your Key to the World card for both resort room and cruise cabin. Then when you go to port you supposedly do not have to wait to check in again, simply embark when allowed.
I hope this is the case. It would make it much easier. I hope someone who really knows the answer will answer :).

That's right, momto2dkids. If the DCL cruise and WDW lodging were booked as a package, it eliminates the check-in at the DCL terminal at the counter. However, unless it has just changed, they still require showing photo ID with your KTTW card upon boarding, to insure that the name on the card matches the person boarding.
I'm off to Florida in an hour, guys! I'll be checking the board from my laptop over the next 5 weeks.

danbarbara: I saw your message the other day that you are just down the hall from us! My entire clan is all together, we are in 6064, 6066, 6068, me in 6067, and 6069 (I think! ;) ). See you soon......
I hope that they will be playing The Santa Clause 2 as it is released on Nov 2!! :p I have seen a thread on these boards where one person said that it will most definately be playing, and another person said probably not. I guess we will just have to wait for the suprise!! :p

Oh Tas........I almost forgot, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for all the different ideas on making our M & M's! :p Didn't really want to make them as I/we have other things to do before we leave, but we are going to make them anyways!! :bounce: At first nobody wanted to "play" along with me, now , they are all as excited as I was/am!! In my searches for our M & M costumes, I found a costume that I would love for my brother or brother-in-law to wear, but it is not real "family oriented". It was called Tassle Twirling Tessie, and it was a hoot!! ;) :p
Anyhow, I will see you all soon..............
Hola Tas.....I'm jealous that you're already on your way ....hope your trip is pleasant.....see you on the Wonder !!!:p

Of those of you wearing costumes, how many of you plan to go to dinner in your costumes? We have early seating and my family and I all have costumes. Not sure how much time we will have to change into costumes between mandatory drill, sailaway party, dinner, shows, etc. Any thoughts/ experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Just a couple more weeks!!!! :p ;) :p ;)

I haven't thought much about wearing costumes to dinner, I was just going to "wing it" when we get there. This is our first cruise so I don't really know what kind of time we will have! ;) We also have early seating, so it will probably be more feasible to wear them to dinner, I just don't know how comfortable that will be though.
Suggestions please.............

Hola to all! Yes, I am happily in FL right now. :smooth: I am <I>very</I> busy with everything from photo shoots (horses!) to theme parks (all). Just wanted to touch base with everyone. My Halloween costume will be a long black dress that's sort of a mix of Gothic and medieval, since my (adult) nephew is still going to be Gothic. My guess is we will likely be at Triton's the first night. We have late seating, and it would be nearly impossible for us to be in costume for any earlier activities, then back to "normal" for dinner, then in costume again for the clubs or Halloween bash. This of course, is because I will be wearing weird makeup that will probably include purple eyeshadow under my eyes to make me look really gross, etc. :jester: It's easy to change clothes, but not to totally redo my makeup. So I intend to be in costume at dinner.
Oh - to answer the question about the brief mini-meet on the ship, it will be on the Deck 7 "secret after verandah." It should be unlocked. Just head as far aft on Deck 7 as you can go, then open the door to the verandah. It is dead center at the rear of that deck. Again, not everyone in your party needs to attend and we ALL would not fit, but if you can send at least one person, then we can arrange the time and place for our group picture.
Also, for those of you who will be at MNSSHP on the 27th: Yes, I will also be in black and "Gothic" - either the same as I'll be on the ship or just slightly different.
Still can't wait to see those M&M's!!! :teeth: TTYL!
