Who's going on the October 13, 2002 Wonder? Me, my DW, DD4 and DD6 are doing Land and Sea. First part at Beach Club then the Wonder Cruise starting on the 13th. This is our first time on any cruise and we are very excited. :bounce:
Look forward to hearing from others who will be coming along.

We are on the 10/13 Wonder!
Since this thread has started, we must be getting closer to our
"Wonder"ful vacation
We are also doing the 3 day land 4 day sea, staying at the beach club first
We have DH (me) 41 DW 39 DD 15 DS 13 DS 11 DS 11 DS 8
We have connecting rooms - I think its 6036 and 6038 (might be 6038 and 6040, don't remember exactly)
This is our first Disney cruise, though we have done Carnival and RCCL before this. This trip has been in the planning stages for 2 years.
See you on board

It will be nice meeting all of you. We are in 6010, I believe. Larry, this will be our second cruise. The first was on the Magic for a 4/3 day when the kids were 3&5. We are now moving up to the 5/4. This will be our first time on the Wonder. Have seen them both in Port and understand the only difference is interior design. We really can't wait. See you are from NC. In the fall, we normally head to NC and TN to go to the mountains. I am Kentucky bred, Florida raised, so I can't stay away from those mountains. LOL. I hope you enjoy your stay in Florida. :D
LarryGadget
06-19-2002, 07:58 PM
You say you're doing a 5/4. Did you set up the first part yourself or get some kind of extended land and sea? Just curious, cause I was thinking that 3 days in the parks may not be enough.

Add 5 more 1st time cruisers to this list for the Wonder Oct 13 2002 departure.... DH,DW,DD8,DS10,MIL..
Between this board and the one at www.cruisecritic.com I have obtained a wealth of disney cruise knowledge.
It will make things go so much easier!
Any vacation that I don't have to personally drive anywhere is gonna to be such a relief... (airplane, disney bus shuttle, cruise ship)
My kids have a Fall Break vacation week off every year at their school.
We are fortunate since not many schools do this... It's a great time to take these family trips.

Wow, I thought we were the only ones going on this cruise, We will be traveling with 5, Me, DW, DD, DGS(grandson)10, and DD friend. This will be our first Disney Cruise, DW and myself cruised last year on the Grand Princes. We will be doing our WDW stay after the cruise to finish out the week.
We'll be staying on DVC points at the Wilderness Villas.
We'll be using Disney transfers both ways and then probably Mehrs at the end to get to MCO.
We have booked RM 8554, as we have 5 and I wouldn't sail without a Verander. You get spoiled real fast, just like staying in the Villas. More room.
We're booked for the 2nd seating, anybody else?

Hi Larry. I think I messed up when I put 5/4 down. I meant we were on the 5 day/4 night cruise. We live only about 40 minutes from WDW, so we normally don't stay out there.
It is so nice to see so many families with kids in our age range (5-8). I think all of our children are going to have a great time.:)
LarryGadget
06-21-2002, 08:35 AM
Thanks Alisa. I should have noticed your location. We're glad to see that kids our ages will be sailing too. They will have a lot of fun.
KennyK - we considered the second seating, but decided on first because of the age of our girls. I hope they can stay awake for the show, however! Hope we get a chance to meet you and your family.
TXCruiser - you're right, these boards are great. Except that they make it too hard to wait all that time! I guess it will be here before we know it. I can't imagine doing the trip without all this great advice.
See you all soon. :D

phxjjo5 -
I see you have 2 DS11's, I guess my grandson DGS10 will get to know each other as he will be booked into the Childrens program on board.
TXCruiser -
I also see that you will be bringing along your son DS10, So I guess we'll also get to know each other.
I love these boards, they have so much valuable information. When we went on our Princess Cruise last year, we went blind and probably would have appreciated and done other things if we had boards loke this for that cruise.
See you all on board. Can't wait for another Disney Vacation. Last was in February 02 at BWV & HHI.

Larry,
Haven't relly thought about it that much, but we will probably skip Atlantis. Have been thinking of going to the Pirate's museum and probably the Straw market. Maybe a little casino action in town, but that's about it. Then back to the ship for some R&R.
Anybody else have any suggestions. Not into beaches as we live on Long Island, NY and are surrounded by water and beaches, but use our pool in the back yard.
Castaway Cay will be enough sand /beach for us.

Aloha,
Add on 4 more first timers! My DH, DS - 8, DD - 6. Also, my sister's family is coming along too! It's quite a distance for us, so we are maxing out this vacation and will be in the area for a total of 2 weeks. (Hopefully, my kids will have understanding teachers this coming fall. Right now I have them in summer school to give them a head start.)
We started planning back in January -- just barely got our tickets via Mileage Plus -- last 4 seats out of Hawaii. (Unfortunately, United does not allot very many seats for their mileage plus members.)
We also picked up MNSHP tickets for the day we get off the boat.
Does anyone have any feedback on Kennedy Space Center? Have heard mixed reviews -- some love it, some say their kids were bored. We may do KSC the day before the cruise departs.
Looking forward to all the excitment!

Larry, There is a web-site you can go to and check out excursions that are available in Nassau. The site is shoretrips.com. Go to 'browse trips' and check the island you are interested in. You can book your trip with this company and they are very reputable. I have a travel agency and work with them. This couple have been everywhere and tries just about every excursion out there. They chose the BEST excursions for your money and they usually have smaller groups of people, therefore, your not crammed into van for 8 with 15 other passengers. I have never heard any negative response from anyone. Good luck!! I will be with a group that I booked from Ashland, KY. I guess we'll see you there!!!!!!! One last thing. They do not book excursions along with the ships itinerary, so be sure the time is right and you can be there when you need to bo. Another thought, if you have booked your excursion and the ships cannot dock due to weather ot whatever, you are not charged for that excursion. If you have any other questions, they are great at getting back to you. ;) e-mail: aperfecttrip@yahoo.com

Hawaiin Girl - Aloha! Hopefully our DDs will get to know one another. My DDs are 4 & 6. We are taking our girls out of school for 1 week. Our teachers our very strict about taking them out during the school year - but what the heck, life is short! We promised to work extra hard in September to keep them up to speed.

Hi Hawaii. Hope our kids get to meet. We have a DS(7) and DD(5). We live here in Orlando, and our DS goes to KSC once or twice a year with his summer camp. He tells me he absolutely loves it there. I have not been since I was young, but I have heard from many people, all different ages, who seem to really enjoy it. It is more of a learning adventure, than, say a "theme park" adventure, but I understand that it has lots of hands on things to do. See you in October. :)

Add 9 more first time cruisers to the list. We are so excited. We will have DM, DF, DMIL, DW (me), DH, DN(6), DN(10), DD(6) & DD (4). I am still watching these boards for all the info I can get. You guys are great! You are a wealth of info.
I'm concerned about what to do give as regional gifts. Being from KY.......I'm just not sure what would be appropriate. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Also I read about $2 dollar bills. Who do you give these to?
Looking forward to hearing from everyone.

This is our second DCL cruise the first was last year, but the 7 night one, eastern, it was fab, was saving to do 14 night western and eastern back to back couldn't wait that long so thought we would have a quick fix.
We have just brought a villa in Florida so will be back to there, we are over for 6 weeks and the cruise is in our second week. Of all we are doing it is the cruise I am looking forward to most it is fantastic. Ryan is only 4 and has not stopped talking about it since last year.

Hi Dean, Bernie & little Ryan
Welcome aboard, The list is growing with less than three months to go. So far it looks like we have 9 family's from these boards going this cruise.
We are also on deck 8, in room 8554. It will be myself, Ken, DW, Mary; DD, Cindy: DGS, Alex; DD's friend. Ann.
This will be mine and DW's second cruise, 1st on the Grand Princess. This will be the 1st for DCL.
We'll be spending 3 days after the cruise at the VWL in Disney.
Maybe we can have a mini DIS meet. Wear those green ribbons.
See you all soon,

I have a question for those of you who have cruised before with Disney. What time do you think we will get off of the ship on Thursday? We have some plans for that afternoon and now I'm wondering if I need to do some shuffling.

I guess this will also serve as a bump.
Even though I have not sailed on DCL before, from all reports and these boards it seems you can probably be off the ship no later than 9-9:30 am on Thursday.
I all depends on the ship clearing customs and how you plan on having breakfast.
I hope that helps.
Lets all wear lime green ribbons and someone want to set a meet on the ship for all of us dis's.

With only 43 more days to go before we sail out into the sunset. Is anyone else going with us on this cruise? I know being on an empty ship must be a lot of fun. No fighting of deck chairs, the pools empty and etc. But there must be more than the 8 DIS members that have posted so far.
Does anyone want to have a meet somewhere on deck 9 for the sailaway party?
This is our 1st DCL cruise so not really familiar with the ship lay out.

Larry,
Just looked them over - nothing we don't already know from participating on these boards. However there is something official about seeing all of our names in black and white.
One thing I did notice is that the booklet they give you is outdated - They still talk about early entry and the soda program as being a sticker on your KTTW card rather than a refillable mug.
Hope you get yours soon, see on the 13th!

I'm with KennyK - (litterally ) I'm his wife.
And we only have 33 days left.
HawiianGirl - We are also going to MNSSHP that first night off the ship.
Never did that before - It should be fun. We've done E-Nights before though.
My grandson's teacher was very good about the whole thing. Although I think she's going to expect a written report.
I'm at the point of opening up the suitcase to start packing.
Make a list - Then you don't forget anything. Suntan lotion - Shoe rack for door of bathroom - phone cards for gifts etc.

Why a shoe rack?
KennyK
09-06-2002, 09:02 PM
Hi Larry,
I'll post the answer for my DW,
The shoe rack she is referring to is the hanging cloth/plastic bag type or what ever you want to call it the hangs from a door with a bunch of pockets in it. Its used according to other posts on these boards to put items like shampoo, sun screen, two way radios, spare batteries shaving gear, tooth brush holders, tooth paste and deoderant, hair brushes etc. The reason for this is that the shelving space in the bathrooms in VERY limited.
I also looked at the doc's when I got home and didn't see anything really abnormal. The only question so far is return trip vouches back to WDW after the cruise. It wasn't very clear in the paper work so on Monday will call DCL and ask.
I will mention that since I used a ta the booklet with the embarkation gifts offered by DCL was not in the package we received as was previously mentioned that it was for TA to order you a thank you gift for your trip.
My daughter also saw the statement about the stickers for the drink program but indicated this was for the children program. I did not see any mention of adults in that section, but then I have not finished reading the booklet entirely.
I guess thats all for now. Tomorrow when it's day light out and I'm not so tired I go over those docs in more detail.

Bump, Bump
This is getting frustrating, that no other DIS members are going on this cruise. Has anyone else gotten their Doc's yet.
Picked up ours on Friday. Saw that some of the info in the info books is confusing so called MS today to get clarification.
One was on the drink program. According to the CM I spoke to you get both a sticker for your KTTW card and the mug. When you get a refill you need to show your KTTW card besides having the mug. If you don't have your mug you can get a glass of soda without the mug because of the sticker. No sticker no drink even if you have a mug.
The other was on Paid DCL transfers. It says that a voucher is needed for your trip if you are going to the resorts. NO voucher in booklets. The CM answer to this questions was the one transfer doc is all that is needed. They have the transfer info in the computer, which she verified and will be taken care of.
See you all on the boat.

A perfecttrip
Yes it is getting close, only 4 weeks to go.
My wife and I were thinking that maybe the Lime Green ribbons and meeting someplace on deck during the sail away party might be good. We really don't know the ship so I really can't suggest a lounge/bar club or something like that.
We'll probably be on the ship early as our flight gets in at 9:30AM. We'll probably be on the first DCL bus out of MCO. After check in and some lunch on board, getting Grandson set up in Kids Club and then getting ressies for spa treatments for DW and DD and friend. I guess we'll get settled into our cabin, maybe go for a swim, mandatory drill etc. We have late seating so will be going to the early stage show before dinner.
So do anyone that maybe cruised before on the Wonder have a suggestion on where we can meet.

I think the lime green ribbons are good. Maybe Goofy's pool (family pool) would be a good spot to meet. It's mid ship, and I like being outdoor leaving port. Just a suggestion, I am open for anything!! We also have second dining, and will probably go to the early show.
The cruise date on my countdown is a day off, oops! That's the day we leave home, so officially , our vacations has begun!! We are off on a WONDERful adventure!!!!!!!!!

If any of you are planning to visit the Kennedy Space Center the day before our cruise...
Kennedy Space Center is celebrating their 40th Anniversary on Oct. 12 with a special barbecue picnic w/the Astronauts ticket deal. Tickets are $26.94 adults / $16.34 kids and include a barbecue picnic lunch; meet and greet with astonauts; AND a full day's admission to the KSC!
This is only 94 cents more than the usual admission ticket for KSC. KSC also offers a daily dine w/Astronaut package -- but that is $55 for adults. So, I guess this is a specially priced deal for their 40th anniversary. Tickets can be ordered online on the KSC website -- www.kennedyspacecenter.com. Click on the KSC 40th Anniversary Picnic - Oct 12 link.
There is no shipping of tickets, they have to be picked up at will call. (But at least no shipping /handling costs.) Here's what's printed on their website:
Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Kennedy Space Center with Astronauts representing four decades of manned space flight! A special 40th Anniversary Picnic will be held Saturday, October 12, at 11 a.m. at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.
A limited number of tickets are available for the special event, which will feature Astronauts Scott Carpenter, Gene Cernan, Brian Duffy, and more. Guests will enjoy a barbecue lunch and will have “meet and greet” opportunities with each of the Astronauts.
Tickets include the 40th Anniversary Picnic and a full day’s admission to Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, including all shows, exhibits, IMAX® movies and the KSC Tour of restricted areas.
TICKETS WILL NOT BE SHIPPED
All tickets will be held at Will Call for pick up on October 12.

My wife Laura and I are taking our 2nd Wonder cruise, Deck 6 - Veranda. We'd love to stop by and say "hi!" so we'll do that, if it's ok.
I'm turning 40 on Oct 31st (yes! Scary!) and Laura is 34, and this is my b-day cruise. Our cruise in Sept 1999 was a honeymoon cruise.
