Look at you. Miss one day away! Let me tell you the things you do for your children double that for grandchildren. It is so heartbreaking when the thing they want so badly just doesn't happen. I cry like a baby. It was good I didn't have to do that this time. :rotfl:
I would hate to make a fool of myself in front of everyone. What did I just say? I do that on a daily basis. That is why I have so much fun. Just so no one gets hurt. Except for me. I did fall again at the airport on my birthday. Don't forget to do an ending to this report so we can talk about ya while you are gone.
John and I have already said that the grandchildren are going to be spoiled so rotten they'll stink to high heaven. My mother is already starting to get depressed about us going away. Yet, she refuses to go with us to Disney. Believe me, we've offered. She went with us for Thanksgiving in 2000 and had a great time but hasn't gone back since. Oddball will keep her company while we are gone.
Making a fool of myself in front of everyone is an everday occurrence around my house.
I plan on posting the last update today. Yesterday ended up being just what I thought it was....a mad dash to the finish. Today will probably end the same way.

Yay for Hunter, I am so glad he finally got picked!:yay:
I know it is heartbreaking to watch the expression on your child's face when they don't get picked. I think it was awesome that you guys waited around for three shows until Hunter was finally chosen.

The look on his face after being chosen says it all. Glad he got picked. I have a nephew that is an extreme Star Wars fan, and would love to see him participate in the Training Academy.

It just killed me watching his little face fall when he didn't get chosen. Thus....the waiting for three more training sessions.
The look on his face after being chosen says it all. Glad he got picked. I have a nephew that is an extreme Star Wars fan, and would love to see him participate in the Training Academy.
I love the first picture.....he just looks so happy.

You were the best parents in the whole wide world. I have seen so many mean (really mean) parents that don't give a flip about what their kids want and really don't have any idea about their likes and dislikes. Makes me angry.

As ya'll could have probably guessed, my boss has asked me "what do we have to get done before you leave" about 20 times just this morning.
Yesterday was a pain in the rear end. The phone would not stop ringing from the minute we opened up after lunch until we left at 5:15 p.m. (yes I worked late). We have caller i.d. and the line 1 rang a total of 28 times. I don't even want to know how many times line 2 rang. That may not sound like a lot to ya'll but in a one lawyer/one paralegal office, that's way too many calls to death with on any given day. Much less a few days before I leave for vacation.
If you'll remember, my boss's mother found a fill-in for me......my boss's sister. He really didn't want her to do it but he thinks his mother is the cat's meow and would never say no to her. I really don't give two hoots who fills in, just so long as somebody is here. His sister is a little bit on the lazy side (else she would have a steady job) and it'll be interesting to see if she actually comes in on time.
I decided that I'd go ahead and type up some office guidelines and the day-to-day activities as if we had done it for the other girl who might have come in. That way, at least I've done my part.
I have one deadline tomorrow. I have billing to get out today. Not too big of a job now that everything has been entered into the system. I have to hand feed my printer right now because lightning struck a bridge right near our building and somehow my printer doesn't work correctly now. The computer guy keeps saying he'll be here any day. Yeah right!
On the homefront.....
I got a whole heck of a lot done last night. I had already pulled out my clothes and piled them into the corner with the snack stuff and miscellaneous stuff the other day. Last night, we got all of John's clothes matched and folded. We got all of Hunter's clothes matched and folded. Lacey got all of her things together and folded.
I already had most of the last minute things out on the cabinet in the bathroom. You just can't pack that kind of stuff ahead of time because it's things you use every day like...toothbrushes, hair dryer, deodorant, etc. I do have the bag sitting there just waiting on us to throw stuff in it though.
We got all our shoes together. I am not a real shoe fanatic but we do like to take a couple of pair a piece and then a pair or two of flip flops. A few years ago, I bought one of those bed-in-a-bag comforter sets. You know, the ones that come in the big clear zippered bag that has a handle on it. Well, I saved it and it's our shoe bag. Perfect size and you can see which shoes you want without having to take them all out. And, it keeps your shoes away from all your clothes.
Then.....clue music.....dun, dun, dun.....I realized that Hunter has grown quite a bit from last year and there's no way that both his clothes and my clothes are going to fit into one suitcase like I usually pack. Hum? We have a lot of small/mid-size duffles but I don't really like to pack clothes in those. What to do? I go into the living room and announce to the family that I'm going to Wal-Mart to buy a suitcase. Why Wal-Mart? Because it's 9:30 p.m. and nothing else is open.
John decides to come along and we find a 4 piece set of luggage for just $49.00 (on clearance). I was really surprised that they were that cheap because they weren't all flimsy floppy. Pretty decent.
Right before we left, we asked Lacey and Hunter if there was anything else they needed from Wal-Mart. Lacey said she might need deodorant. Now you know how I am about stinky people....if she needed it or not, I went on the short shopping list. The shopping list included: 1) suitcase; 2) air conditioner filters; 3) deodorant; 4) 2 liter coke.
By 10:15 p.m., we were outta Wal-Mart and on our way home.
When we got back home, I just wanted to plop in bed but I couldn't because all of John and Hunter's clothes were on the bed. I packed Hunter's clothes in the suitcase we already had and then put mine in one of the new suitcases.
Oh, and I packed our overnight bag. Because we break the drive up into two parts, we stop overnight. I don't want to pull everything out of the car so I pack one bag that has just one set of clothes and sleeping clothes for us all. Easier than totally repacking the car.
So, I get everything except the "last minute" bag packed and I look over at the pile of luggage and ask John if he thinks we can fit it all in the trunk. Let's see. All of us grab a couple of bags and we carried them out to the carport. It's now 11:20 p.m. and we're out trying to see if we can get our bags in the car. After a little bit of turning and trying different ways, we get everything in the car. Even a small soft sided ice chest (holds about 6 cans) fit in. We all giggled and said there was no way that we'd remember the puzzle of how we got it all in there. Then we looked at each other and said "why do we have to take it out?". No reason at all. Everything is still in the trunk of the car. Just have to throw in Lacey's duffle (she took it out to add two shirts) and the "last minute" bag.
For the inside of the car, we have two throws (the kids can't travel with out their "cover"), the snack box, the portable DVD player and Lacey's decided to bring her laptop. I have all the maps, two magazines and our reservation envelope ready to go in the car.
On my way home from work, I have to go to Wal-Mart again. Ugh! John's prescriptions won't be ready until today. I had to get pre-approval to have them filled early since we'll be out of town. Lacey's contact prescription runs out tomorrow so I am going to pick up her contacts today at Wal-Mart as well. I have to stop by the bank and make a deposit.
All I have to do tonight, it make my mousekeeping envelopes and my window decoration.
I've never been this prepared this early. Love it!

Take lots of pictures (and more!) and make sure you find all those Photopass people (you DID preorder it, right? I saw on Ginny's TR you were thinking about it. We got it last time and ended up with, I think over 200 photos-which translated to over 500 after I added frames and everything. 2 cds. SO worth it. I've already preordered it for this time. My family is going to OWE me for that one! I'll bet between the 13 of us, or whatever it will be, there will be 5 cds. Anyway, GET IT if you didn't ;))

I'm not done your report since I just found it but wanted to comment on what I have read so far. I had to lol at the tooth incident even though I know it wasn't funny at the time. How do I know? I also have a crown in the front that has come out a time or two since I had it. Most recently a few wks ago. When I called my dentist they told me they could see me Tues., well it was only Fri. I was freaking out thinking I was going to have to walk around all wkend like that. Luckily they left a message for the dentist and he fit me in. I'm glad to hear super glue works and I'll be sure to take some just in case. Love the squirrel pics too. Last time we were at Disney we saw one steal a snickers bar out of the bottom of a parked stroller. I'm sure the person came back thinking someone was crazy enough to steal their chocolate. LOL

Well, when I last left off on the trip report, we had surprised Hunter with one last surprise....we made a last minute trip to Hollywood Studios and after three tries, Hunter was FINALLY chosen for The Jedi Training Academy. And, the rain had held off until Hunter had gotten his diploma and we were walking back to our car.
We still had a really long drive ahead of us and it was after lunch before we ever even left Hollywood Studios. We made our way out of the parking lot and back to World Drive where we drove under the gorgeous Walt Disney World archway for the last time this trip.
We took the Highway 192 exit and were on our way back home. But, first things first, we had to get something to eat. We pulled into the nearest McDonald's and ate in the car. We had to get some miles behind us 'cause it was a long long way home.
We're always sad to leave our favorite place on Earth but at least we were leaving on a high note.
We didn't get home until almost 3:00 a.m. but I wouldn't have had it any other way!
Up next....a mini recap!

Let's see if I can recap some of the things that happened on this trip:
1) We surprised our son, Hunter, with a trip to Walt Disney World!
2) Hunter announced that we were "the best parents in the whole wide world!";
3) Hunter got so excited about going to Disney that he had to tinkle in a empty bottle we had in the car;
4) We got stuck on Test Track and I had a "gotta pee" moment while being stuck in the ice cold room;
5) I ran off and left John and Hunter in search of the nearest bathroom;
6) My front tooth/crown fell out and went bouncing across a restaurant table;
7) I super glued the crown back on while looking in a little bitty compact mirror and sitting on a toilet that automatically flushed several times while I sat;
8) A castmember at Hollywood Studios tried to tell me.....a Diser....that I was going the wrong way to Toy Story Mania. Huh?
9) Hunter didn't get chosen for The Jedi Training Academy;
10) A castmember stopped the crowds walking bye so they could sing Happy Birthday to Hunter;
11) I watched a sneaky little squirrel steal nuts from a stand at Hollywood Studios;
12) I was chosen as Guest of the Hour at Package Pickup and received a Tinkerbell pin and Certificate;
13) Hunter's joke got chosen at The Laugh Floor and we got up on the big screen there too;
14) John's foot got run over by a scooter and the lady who did is just drove off in a huff. Later in the day, he pulled the dumb thing and finished the job that the scooter started;
15) John and Hunter get stuck in the ride vehicle on Goofy's Barnstormer and get to ride again;
16) A lady trips and falls on me in Country Bear Jamboree. I end up with large blood drawing claw marks on my leg;
17) John put his arm around Pocahontas and, without thinking, rests his hand on her butt! That wasn't all, he also turned to her and said "I've got a hurt toe. Do you want to kiss it and make it better?" ;
18) We were given free desserts at Pecos Bill's;
19) Minnie Mouse almost busted her bootie during the Spectro Magic parade;
20) We played private investigator and took pictures of the new pool construction at the Caribbean Beach Resort;
21) We snatched a couple of Disney flowers to take home with us and, yes, one is still alive and well on my back porch;
22) I freaked out, totally freaked out, in the Virgin MegaStore, got mad at John and Hunter and walked out on them;
23) Ate a couple of free samples of Ghiradelli chocolate. Yummo!;
24) We reminisced about Hunter wiping a booger down Lacey's really cute black shirt;
25) We visited Pop Century and Wilderness Lodge;
26) Hunter accidentally got kicked in the "goov" by one of his newfound friends at the CBR quiet pool;
27) Hunter and I left John at the resort while we danced with Terk, found a "hidden" path around the Tree of Life, saw lots of gorillas and met Lilo at the Animal Kingdom;
28) Hunter and I watched the Animal Kingdom vets do blood work on snakes at Rafiki's Planet Watch;
29) Hunter and I spit in the water so the fish would come and got the scare of our life when a castmember almost caught us;
30) I told off a rude guy in front of us at Festival of the Lion King;
31) We got free ice cream from a snack vendor in Dinoland and we took silly pictures of John acting like he dropped his Mickey bar;
32) We watched the Epcot fireworks from our resort and then walked back to our room hand in hand. Feel free to say awwww again;
33) We rode Stitch's Great Escape with two of the funniest women behind us yelling "Lotd Jesus!";
34) Hunter participated in Woody's Roundup and, of course, I, the official Fastpass getter missed it because I was getting Fastpasses for Splash Mountain;
35) We were bad parents and mad Hunter ride Splash Mountain;
36) We told a group of teenagers to be sure and look up in the stretch room section of the Haunted Mansion so that they could see the hanging Master Gracey;
37) I got stuck behind a super dooper sweaty stinky lady in the "cattle herding" section of the line for Haunted Mansion;
38) I gave hidden Mickey tips to two families while waiting for Mickey's PhilarMagic to start;
39) We clapped when a lady got escorted out of Mickey's PhilarMagic when she refused to "move all the way down, filling in all available seats";
40) John spotted Pocahontas while soaring on Aladdin's Magic Carpet and made a mad dash off the ride in order to avoid her;
41) We had to sit on Snow White's Scary Adventures for 10 minutes before the ride started back up again;
42) Nobody wanted to accept our gift of free glowsticks;
43) We watched Wishes from Fantasyland which was a new experience for us;
44) We were the last ride of the night on Pirates of the Caribbean;
45) We shut down the Magic Kingdom at 2:00 a.m.;
46) After Hunter fell asleep, John and I decided to spring one last surprise on Hunter;
47) We took Hunter to Hollywood Studios to try to get chosen for The Jedi Training Academy. After three tries, he got chosen!
Hum? Did I miss anything? Probably! What an eventful and memorable trip we had!

Morning everybody!
As you all know, we are leaving for Disney today! 5 o'clock can't get here fast enough. I say that then when I am trying to make sure that everything on my desk is done, I'll be wishing for a little more time to get through with it all.:laughing:
Lacey and Hunter went to his new school yesterday to have a look around. School starts Friday, August 14th, but we'll still be in Disney. We know the school office manager and she told them to come on over even though the school is still closed for the Summer. She took them all around the school, showed him the cafeteria, computer lab, etc.
She even gave him his school supply list. Of course, there will be a few things that aren't on there because each teacher will add additional items. But, at least we'll have the major stuff already. I knew he'd have to have loose leaf paper, pens, highlighters and such so I started buying stuff a long time ago. Lacey is taking Hunter to WalMart today to get the things I didn't already have. I do not want to go to WalMart the day after school starts. It's total chaos.....like the day after Thanksgiving a/k/a Black Friday. NOOOO WAY!
I made our window decoration last night. I didn't go all out. I just made a little sign that says "The McBride Family 14th Annual Walt Disney World Vacation" and then I left a space and at the bottom wrote "Do You Dis? We Do! Mickeystoontown here!" I printed it on lime green paper and then glued it on purple scrapbook paper. In the middle of the green paper, I glued a green Mickey head and on the corners, I glued different color Mickey heads. Not elaborate but it's still a decoration. I think, if I am not mistaken, I packed some Disney fairy window clings. I can't remember if I did or not. If I did, they are somewhere in one of the bags in the back of my car.
I got all of my reservation information, online check-in information, garden grocer order confirmation and the "extra" vouchers Disney sent in one big manilla envelope. I've already put it in the car.
The small ice chest, DVD player, CD/DVD holder, snack box and a few other small things are sitting on the kitchen cabinet just waiting to be tossed in the car.
I put all of my girly stuff in the "last minute" bag this morning. All John has to do is throw in his and Hunter's stuff. Lacey has her own "last minute" bag in her bathroom. Those will go in the car when I get home.
The trunk of the car will be full to the max when we get everything in there. John and I decided that if we think we won't have room for all of our souvenirs, we may just have them shipped home. I don't know how much it will cost but we'll definitely check into it and see if it's a possibility.
I left a checklist of things the family needs to do today while I am work. Just small things like turn on the dishwasher, put clothes in the dryer, go get ice, take out garbage....you know those kind of things.
I'm off to do a little work right now. We have three appointments today, one of which is the deadline that's due today. I hate to say it but the client is as dumb as dirt and we can't get it across to her that she has to get us documentation as to her monthly expenses or we can't include them. She thinks we can just include them but then have nothing to back it up. :confused3
Check back in with ya'll a little later.

Actually, I don't have one single thing on top of the car so Mel's still invited if she wants to come along!:rotfl: If you can make it to West Monroe by 5:00 p.m. today, you are welcome to ride along too. Ya think you can keep a grip on your suitcase while going 70 miles an hour?:lmao:
Girl, you know that I am computer illiterate.....I don't know how to send anything from a phone to facebook. When I have phone problems, remote control problems, etc....I just hand the device to one of the kids and tell them to fix it.:laughing:
I do need to get Lacey to upload a picture to my Facebook account before she goes back to Georgia. If not, ya'll have to wait until Christmas to see my face on there.

The good news is, we have 5, so we HAVE to have the Bayou. I'm hoping my brother and my parents get the mansions. :rolleyes1 I know. I'm awful.
If I could get to Monroe by 5:00, I'd ride on top.
There were a few of "you" on FB, so I waited until I looked at Connie's friend list before I sent you a request. So I knew I'd have the right one. :thumbsup2
Only 6 hours and 15 minutes to go (assuming you are on Central Time...which I think you are)! :banana:

Hey Lisa - I'm excited your leaving today because that means I leave tomorrow! YIPPEE! A little sad that we aren't leaving today too - since that was our original plans, but I'll be happy that we are staying an extra day on the other end once we get there. I posted in my pre-trip report that I got my nails and toes done last night instead of tonight - might have to sign some papers tonight so I wanted to make sure I didn't miss out on getting my mani/pedi.
Bill is mostly packed, and we just have to get Ryan's haircut and maybe two pairs of shorts tonight. Then I think we are done. I'm hoping I can go to bed early tonight so I won't be tired tomorrow after work. They are coming around 4pm to pick me up!! YEAH!

I do doubt my choice everyday! :rotfl: Especially when DS says - I don't know why we can't just go back to CBR - everyday!
I don't think I told you my latest. . . I cut back the POR free dining trip to 6 nights and added on 2 nights room only at OKW!! So maybe OKW will be similar enough to CBR for DS (and the rest of us!)!
Anyway, have a great time at WDW and CBR. I am looking forward to your CBR report and pictures! :goodvibes

Yes I have. I really like the dark ones so you can't see what's going to happen next. For those of you who have been to Silver Dollar City they have one called "Fire in the Hole". I have done that one a million times. I didn't have to close my eyes cause it's dark. Kinda jerky but has like 3 little dips. Reminds you of a kiddie coaster but longer. Nothing like those at the World.

But a good dead tired. It's amazing that once you get there you gather a second wind and are good to go for several more hours. Ride those coasters for me and yell really loud. Scream like a girl. The time is ticking away. :hourglass
You know what you are?
Lucky!
That's what always happens to us....we get a second wind and don't wanna stop. But, I am also glad that we work a "sleep in" day in the middle of the trip. We need that extra sleep so we can go to the evening extra magic hours.;)

I think she is too! I'll never forget the time we took my, then 66 year old mother, to Disney World. She rode Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain and the entire time she kept saying "I can't believe I let ya'll talk me into this!" But, then, when she got off, she said she loved it!

I do not like heights (ya'll already know that) so I don't like the outside coasters. I like the ones at Disney because they are inside and in the dark. I can handle Expedition Everest because the majority of it is inside too.

I am so afraid of heights too but I did TOT. Go figure. The only time it bothered me was when the window opened the first time and I saw the Mickey water tower straight ahead. Then the next two times I tried to get a picture when the window opened that it just didn't bother me anymore. But can I get on a step ladder or climb on a chair? No way. Heaven forbid I watch a movie with someone leaning over an edge. Even though I might have seen it 10 times I just know the next time they are going over.

Lisa won't toot her own horn so I will do it for her. This is a real compliment.
I am sure that this will go down in Intercot history as one of the best Trip Reports ever compiled...not only for the wonderful content and personal investment, but for the way that it has attracted so many people to read and participate!
At the time that I am posting this reply, your Trip Report has 306 replies and over 11,000 views! With the exception of the "sticky" threads (which I don't think count) there is only one other thread on any of the boards that has more replies and views...and that thread is "Jorts".
Congratulations and THANK YOU!
Love the Jorts comment.

Hey, I wonder how the boss' sister is gonna react to your ghosts, Lisa?
You know the stuff they deleted? John's visit with Pocahontas and the "I gotta pee" moment. Why oh why are those two things so bad?
The sister used to have an art gallery here in this building. I don't think it was a real art gallery. I think she just hung up her paintings and had an open house every once in a while. Certainly not long enough to get acquainted with the ghosties.
Speaking of ghosties, the smoke smell has been killing me! They seriously need to break their smoking habit.

Hi everybody! Thanks for all the "welcome back"s. I am super duper tired. Lacey had to get up this morning and drive all the way back to Cleveland, Georgia. She left about 8:00 a.m.
I just went to the photopass website to enter all my photopass cards. I think there was a total of 72 pictures. I haven't looked at them real closely but there were a few that I thought weren't that good.
I'm about to play around with my camera. Guess what......it died on me mid-trip. And, yes, it deleted about 170 pictures. Ughhhhh! John and I made a trip to WalMart in Kissimmee at 2:00 a.m. Yes, I said 2:00 a.m.!:scared1:

Morning everyone! I hate to report that I'm back to the same old grind.....work.:guilty: But, I've gotta work to keep food on the table, a child in college and save a little moola for our next Disney trip.
Hunter missed his first half day of school Friday but went to school today. He was super pumped up about starting a new school but called his Mamaw a little after 8:00 a.m. What was the problem? He wasn't supposed to go to school today. Just the 7th and 8th graders went today...not the 6th graders.
Not a great way to start a new school year but at least he was able to get his schedule. He was excited to see that he got his first elective....."strings". That means, I am going to have to rent some sort of instrument.
From what I can tell, it seems that I only lost 176 pictures. Thank goodness Lacey had her camera with her so I have some backup. She doesn't take a whole lotta pictures like her Mama does and they aren't the same kinds of things that I take pictures of but at least I have some.
I will definitely be taking the camera to the camera shop this weekend. I can't even get the dumb thing to turn on now so there's something really wrong with it.
I brought my new camera to work with me (priorities :rotfl:) and am now downloading the 800+ that were on the one memory card I brought with me.
Work isn't too bad. When I turned on my computer, the settings were all changed. I don't know about you guys but if I were somebody who was just filling in, I wouldn't go and change up the computer settings. :confused3
Anyway, the clients and my boss are glad that I'm back. I have already starting prepping the bossman for next year's trip. We really don't want to go back in August again. It was super hot and sweaty. I don't sweat a lot but on some days, I could feel trickles of sweat on me. Yuck! I want to go back the last week of May through the first week of June like we did for years and years.
John and I actually talked about the possibility of homeschooling Hunter. That way, we could go on vacation any time we liked. It's something we are just throwing around in our minds right now.
I'm going to get back to work a little bit but will definitely be back.

We are so glad to have you back. We did manage to chat without you but it was not the same.
I hate that about your pictures. We still have a roll of film missing from our cruise 5 years ago.
I would say no to messing with someone's computer settings but if you remember who worked for you I bet you aren't really surprised.
Poor Hunter. Funny but too bad for him he had to get up when he could have had one more sleep day.
There are a lot of homeschool moms on Dis. I personally have several friends that have done it and they say the work part is fun but they hate they miss activities. Our area has a home school football, basketball, soccer and baseball team tho. They use our school cause we have the newest stadium, lighted soccer fields, biggest gym and new baseball fields. The school gets some extra money and our booster club works concessions for the extra money.

We're home! Got in about 45 minutes ago. I'll be back later tomorrow (well, actually today) to post more.
Chat with ya'll tomorrow!
P.S. Guess what my first purchase was?!?! The 2009 Mickey plush for Mr. Ashton!
Welcome home!! Nice purchase! :thumbsup2
I've already washed 3 loads of clothes and am about to put in load number 4. I'll be back in a little while to give a few more details.
Oh no, I'm sorry about your camera problems :sad2: You went to W-M at 2:00AM? :scared1: Ah yes, post-vacation laundry - blech! :laughing:

Yes, I can imagine that someone changing my computer settings would be a bit annoying when I returned to work. I wouldn't have done that, knowing that my work was temporary. :rolleyes:
Still stinks that you lost all of those pictures, but hopefully they can be recovered. We are all on pins and needles, I think, awaiting your first installment!!!! It's so wonderful to have you back! :cheer2:

Welcome back! I would be supremely annoyed if someone touched my settings. I get annoyed if someone touches my computer at all!
I admire people who homeschool. I couldn't do it (and I have to work lol) but I can see some of the advantages of it!
Your comment about the August heat is my big hang up with going then but I'm not sure we are going to have much of a choice! We'll see... Looking forward to hearing about your trip! And happy that the loss wasn't huge...although 176 is still a lot of pics!

The 2009 Mickey plush was the very first thing I saw when I walked into Old Port Royale. I just knew that I had to get it for my fellow Diser.
The camera started acting up a bit a few days before it finally just shut down completely. At first, I thought it was the batteries so I put in more. Then, it did it again the next morning. I knew that I didn't run down batteries in just one day. It finally went kerplunk during our Hollywood Studios day.
The next morning, we were headed to Typhoon Lagoon so I didn't really need the camera. But, John wanted to go ahead and get one. Well, we didn't leave Hollywood Studios until Midnight. We got to the room about 30 minutes later. We discussed whether or not to find a WalMart. I looked in the phone book and there were about 2 dozen WalMarts in the Kissimmee/Orlando area. I called one of them and they gave me directions.
At 1:20 a.m., we left Lacey and Hunter in the room and went off on our trek to find WalMart. We drove around for what seemed like forever and didn't find it. We turned back around and took another road which we thought led to another WalMart. We drove around again and didn't find it. We finally pulled into a Walgreen's and the lady said there was one just down the road from where we used to stay on West Irlo Bronson. We pulled into WalMart around 2:00 a.m. We looked at a bunch of the cameras and then the lady who checked us out couldn't figure out that we didn't want the extended warranty. Had to wait for a CM to come along and void out the whole thing and start all over again. Ultimately, we got checked out and were back at the resort just shy of 3:00 a.m.!:scared1:

The more I look at the pictures that I have, the more I think maybe it was mostly old pictures that were lost. I haven't gone through them all yet though.
Although I hate coming back to "the real world", I am glad to be back and posting on the disboards.

The girl was only here for 5 full days and she messed with the computer settings. She didn't even type one letter or memo so I don't know why she had to fiddle with my computer. Oh well, won't do any good to fuss 'cause she's the boss's sister.
Like I said, we are bouncing around the idea of homeschooling. Hunter has a whole lot of friends at church who he sees every Wednesday night. He also plays football for the private school he used to attend so he'd be able to still have a lot of interaction with his friends. The only problem is it's been so long since I've been in school, I would probably need homeschooling before I could homeschool him.:laughing:
I don't remember the August heat being that bad in 2008 but in 2009 it was soooo hot to me. And, I am an outside person who is used to record temperatures and humidity.
I'm going to try to shoot for the last week of May/first week of June, 2010 for our return. I started trying to get John into thinking about doing a Disney land/sea cruise in 2010. Don't know if it's gonna happen but I'm still going to check into it.

You could have a whole month of Disney curriculum followed with a field trip to Disney!!!

We are a homeschooling family. the History of Disney does count as the history component. For science he can figure how many Gs different rides pull and exactly how that affects the human body. As for math "If monorail A left Epcot at 1:15 and monorail B....":thumbsup2
Besides as long as a kid learns how to book and orchestrate a Disney vacation what more is there to life? (Just make sure he marries rich ;) )

So, far only on your first post from this AM. We homeschooled Gwendolyn (7,8,9) & Dayne (3,4,5). They missed the interaction of being w/other kids (we homeschooled with another family but they wanted to be with other kids, too) I tried to find local groups but it was not that big at the time. NOW, they have wonderful groups and awesome high school groups where the parents take a different subject and the kids move from one place to another daily...you would work with the teacher one day and week and peer learing the other four for each subject. the reason I know this is Dayne hated HS when he started. Now I wish I would have let him, just that Dayne was my problem child; he does EVERTHING later. But, we did love it, and they have alot of great circullium (spelling) out there. We loved A Beka Books!!
So, sorry to hear about your camera...hope when they try to fix it they can find some/all for you.
That would have ruined my entire day to come back to work and have my computer rearranged...
OK let me go and read your next post.

I am thinking about homeschooling Ashton or catholic school. Still need to check into the lower grade homeschool local group. My only recommendation to homeschooling before you start is find a really good group to work with. I helped Gwendolyn w/alot of her work but most of her work was done w/the help of teachers by computer. I paid for her work to be recorded and graded (so, it considered correspondence high school) when she transferred into the high school they added it to her transcript and she just had to test out of the subjects she had already taken (she had said was easy--everything but French). Dayne was actually a year ahead on science and history when he returned so he had to repeat (which I'm sure was a good thing).
When we went to WDW in 2001 we incorporated into our lessons that year, geography (that was alot of fun). Science/math
good luck with the decision; it is a very personal one; and if it is something that Hunter is interested in it can be a wonderful experience... Oh and buy the way LSU has a wonderful High school correspondence and you can earn a LA state diploma through them (it is different than an actual diploma; but if you go that route check it out)!!

Lisa, I am glad you are back. I have totally missed you and your posts. I'm glad ya'll had a safe trip.
I homeschool Dallas and we really enjoy it. We belong to a homeschool group that we go on field trips with and have park days. Some of my facebook friends are a part of that group. We can learn at our own pace and that makes it much easier for us.

Hi Lisa!!
So sorry about the lost pictures.:sad2: I hope you are able to retrieve them.:goodvibes
We have also considered homeschooling our boys. But since I returned to school last fall and still have another year left. We're not sure how it would work right now.:confused3 But it's definitely something we would very much like to do in the near future.
The heat is the only thing I'm not looking forward to on our trip since I'm so used to the beautiful weather we usually see in April. But...hey I'll be at Disney next week so I know I'll be happy no matter what!!!:thumbsup2

I'm so glad you're back (though I know you're not!). We missed you. I'm looking forward to reading your first installment. I hope you didn't loose too many pictures.
As far as Homeschooling, I've definitely thought about it too. Especially when we still lived in Florida. I think the boys would enjoy it, and I'm certified to teach Elementary and Middle School. Our problem is 1) if we're ever going to get out of my parents' house we can't afford it, and 2) I don't seem to have the patience with my own children that I have with other people's. I think you would be great though! :thumbsup2 I'm interested to hear what you decide.
Hope you got at least a little rest in today too!

Hello all my Dis Friends!
I am sorry I haven't responded to everybody in the last day or so. As you can imagine, work is a little scattered right now. My boss did all of his own typing, copying, etc. while I was away but left copies of everything on my desk. In order to see what's gone on the last week, I've been trying to read everything.
I'm still uploading pictures to photobucket. I do them 20 at a time because for some reason the bulk uploader isn't working.
I think I may have some sort of fever because we are thinking about doing a cruise next year. I checked out some prices this morning. We could do a 7 day Caribbean cruise leaving from New Orleans with stops in Belize and two other places that I can't remember right now. The cost for the three of us would be just over $2,300.00 but I'd have to pay extra for the day excursions. We have always wanted to go to Belize and a cruise seems like a good way to get there. The only problem is there are 3 days of nothing but "fun at sea". I don't know if we could handle that. I gotta be doing something and I don't know if I'd like the "fun" they offer on the ship.
Who knows?!? The fever will probably subside and we'll head back to Disney again. I've already priced out next year's vacation on the Disney site. It's only $300.00 more than this year and that's without any kind of promos or special offers.
I need to post Lacey's graduation pictures for ya'll to see. Let me see if I can find them on the photobucket site and I'll post them here.

I'm waitin' on the boss to get off the phone so I've got a few minutes. I thought I'd post pictures of some deer that were in our yard a couple of weeks ago. I was letting Oddball out in the morning and looked down by the fence to see these guys eating pears that had fallen off the tree. One of them had some big horns:

How cool are those. My brother in law who lives in the deep country has those sports cameras set up all over. He is supposed to email me the 8 point buck pic he got last week. If he can figure out out to attach a file. Don walked him thru it last Sunday when he was here but he can't talk and be on internet at the same time. I'm telling you he lives in no man's land. I'm going to tell his sis to go over and show him how. She just lives a stone's throw from him. But of course with school back in session I don't know where she will find the time. She is the grade school principal.

Last year, we had an eight point in the yard eating apples. One of his horns was pointing down and the other was pointing up. It was the weirdest thing ever. We can stand in our bedroom and look out the window to see the deer. Year before last, we were up late watching a movie and we were all getting ready for bed. John looked out the window to see not one, not two, not three, not four, not five.......but......11 deer in the yard. There were some walking around and even some lying down underneath our fruit trees. I almost had a fit. There were little spotted babies all the way up to bucks. It was amazing!

Here's a funny deer story for you all. My sister came home one night after having a few drinks, came in the house and announced see had just seen someone run through our yard with white pants on. My parents called the police and nothing was found. The next day we went out in the yard and noticed the deer tracks in the snow. My sister then realized see must have seen a white tailed deer from behind. :lmao:

That is too funny, man vs deer. Geesh Lisa if we had 11 in our small back yard they would be on my deck wanting in. We live in a regular subdivision in the country with about 100 houses and a 6 ft privacy fence. We had a deer get in our back yard last winter and couldn't figure out how to get out. Poor thing. Luckily our gates lock from the outside so Don unlocked the gate so it could go thru. We had 3/4 of an acre at our old house in town and had lots of deer. We lived on the very edge of town. We just don't get that many now because we are so close to the airport I think. The noise scares them off. We do have a pond (they call it a lake, but it's not) on the next street over and have tons of geese that stay year long.

They are going on a 9 day in December.
We have deer all the time, Danny feeds them corn. Last year we had a mom and baby; and than just a baby:sad2:. anyway Danny said about a month ago there was a dead young deer in the ditch on the property next door (13ac heavily wooded) looked like she had been hit. The most we've seen at one time was 7. rarely do we see bucks they usually sense us before we can get a really good look!!!It is always so exciting. Last year when we had that freak snow storm we had a beautiful red fox chase a rabbit across the snow it was sad, exciting, and beautiful to see all at the same time.

I think we girls should plan a girls only cruise either out of Mobile or NO. It would be close for all of you. Long drive for me. But you are all worth it. We would have such fun. We don't need no MEN! Everyone does need a passport and mine expires soon. So I must work on it anyway. Ok, now back to the real world. You all are just like me. I forgot to tell ya'll that Hunter had his "second" first day of school today. You'll remember that I took him yesterday and he wasn't even supposed to go...just 7th and 8th graders...no 6th graders. I swear I felt like the stupidest mother in the world.
Anyway, he called about 3:30 to tell me that he had a great day at school. He has a couple of classes with some of his friends from his elementary school. I know that he won't have a problem making new friends in his other classes 'cause he is a talker/people person just like his Mama.;)
I forgot to ask him how lunch went. He has always taken his lunch because he's a super picky eater. He didn't know if it would be "uncool" to take his lunch box so we stuffed it in his backpack. He was going to scope out the cafeteria and see if anybody else brought their lunch. :laughing: I sent him with lunch money just in case he decided he wanted to actually eat something from the cafeteria.

Maybe by next year I would be ready to leave Ashton for a weekend; didn't bother me with the other two for some reason it bothers me w/him. I would just have to be sure to line something up for Danny the baby! :laughing:

I guess you new deep down that the other two were really not your "babies" as Ashton is. It's that intuition thing Mom's have. When Sheri was born my Mom (she was still kinda nice back then and my grandma was still alive) came and got Sandi and kept her for one whole month. It was nice to just have Sheri but boy did I miss Sandi. My mom, dad and grandma took her to St Louis for a week and went and visited cousins and lots of stuff. She was just barely 2 so she doesn't remember but I know my grandma had a wonderful time.
Don has gotten quite good when I leave. I actually think he likes it. We have gotten so set in our "old" age. :rotfl2:

I think it has more to do with the fact that my mom was healthy and able bodied with the older two. and she has high blood pressure, high sugar, and severe back problems. she is unable to chase a toddler.
My mom is still the only person I feel the most comfortable leaving him with and for the most part she is the only person. I have only left him over night three times now and the first time was only a few months back.

What an amazing TR.
Can't wait to find out all about your most recent trip!!! :thumbsup2
I also want to to chime in about going on a Disney Cruise.... DO IT!!!! You will love the three days at sea!! There is so much to do on the Ship you won't want to get off! :)
Question: I read 100% of your TR posts and only about 50% of the comments. Did anyone ever figure out how to do the 'Pay it forward Disney Treasure"?
-nat
Thanks Nat,
We weren't able to find the treasure left by another poster. I think there had been some landscaping done since they buried it. I did bury another treasure while there and if it works out, I am definitely going to start the thread.
The cruise that I looked at left from New Orleans and had stops at Belize and two other places.
I am definitely still going to look at the Disney cruises. I want to do a land/sea Disney cruise. At least that way, we could get 3 days at sea and 4 days at WDW.

I do know what you mean. Don's mom always took care of Sheri's family when we travel without them. You could always leave him with me but that would sort of defeat the purpose of our girls time out. I would take really good care of him. You'll have to bring him to me and I would even take off work. Now that is love.:hug:

Sheri and I would do the Disney package. It is just so much more expensive the the others. NO would be so easy for you.

I have to throw my .02 in here. I feel the same way about leaving Dallas at home. Dale and I use to go to Talladega twice a year for 2 and 3 days, Amanda and Tyler would stay with my Mom. I have only left Dallas at home for 3 weekends in 11 years............LOL.

So glad Hunter had a good first day at school! That's so important every year, but especially when you are starting Middle School!
I think a cruise would be fun too, but if we ever get around to it, it will be the Disney cruise for now.
Add me to the list of "can't leave the kids". I think I've been away from Christian for more than one night once. And that was for two nights. When he was a year old (and Will was four) right after I moved here I did a scrapbooking thing and stayed in a hotel for two nights. I just don't like to leave the kids. I miss them when they're at school all day. I miss them when Matt and I actually get a date night out (not that we don't go-we go!). I don't think I could be away from the for an extended period of time either.
One day maybe...
Can't wait to see your pictures when you get them up, Lisa. Those deer pictures are cool! :thumbsup2

I've never really been one of those women who went on a "girls only" trip. I know I'd feel so guilty for leaving John and Hunter at home while I was out having fun. But, if I were going to do it, I'd love to do it with my Dis buddies.
I totally agree! :goodvibes
I'm glad he had a good first day! Please let us know how lunch went. I'm curious as to what the "cool" kids are doing these days! :laughing:

Sounds like Hunter is going to do great in the new grade! My son starts Kindergarden this September, and I am slightly freaking out, because he will have no friends from his daycare, so it'll be ALL new!

Love the TR, looking forward to the new trip!

Mornin' friends!
I meant to post last night but didn't have a chance to. Before we left for Disney, I stopped my ebay selling 'cause I didn't want to have auctions end while I was gone or have people asking questions and I wouldn't be around to answer them. So, last night, I started putting my stuff back up for bids. Gotta make that Disney money.
We have also started a new routine around the house. I don't know how long it will last but we're going to give it a try. Hunter's room can turn into a disaster area in 2 seconds flat. During the Summer months, I didn't say too much to him about it. I mostly just walked in, shook my head and closed the door.:laughing: I've told him that now he has to pick it up every night. That way, it won't get so bad that it's an overwhelming task to clean it up.
Also, our kitchen snack bar is the place where everyone comes in and drops their stuff. There's mail, there's backpacks, there's purses (well, just mine), there's toys, there's just a whole lotta junk. No more, I say! No more! We can drop our stuff there but by the time dinner is done, it has to be cleaned off. The only things allowed on there at the end of the day is the stuff that goes out with us in the morning.
In elementary school, the teachers actually encourage the kids to get their work done and send home their homework assignments. In middle school, they really start making the kids become independent and don't remind the kids as much. Hunter is like his dad.....slow as a snail in all things. It takes him forever to do something....including classwork and homework. It's not that he doesn't know how to do it or he's off in la-la land, he just takes his own sweet time. Now, when it's something he really wants to do, he can get those legs moving like a cheetah.
We've had a few talks about him getting his work done without anybody really pushing him to do it. He has to make sure he writes down everything the teacher has on the board because she/he won't be sending home a homework sheet. He knows the importance of what we are saying and says he'll do it. We'll see how long that lasts.:rolleyes1
I am glad to report that "at least 50 kids" brought their lunch to school. At least that's how many Hunter said brought their lunch. Looks like the lunchbox doesn't have to be kept hidden after all. He was also excited to learn that they have a hamburger and fries line in the lunchroom. Two of his favorite foods in the world. :)
I'm having issues with photobucket. They said I am about to reach my limit but their site shows that I still have 56% of storage left. :confused3 I've gotten over 400 pictures uploaded and am working on the other 400 that are on my office computer. I still have hundreds more at home. Photobucket needs to work whatever kinks they have out so I can get started on my trip report.
In the meantime, I am going over to their site to find Lacey's graduation pictures so I can post them. I cry every time I see them because Lacey's crying in several of them.
Be back in a bit.

Good morning to you Lisa.
there's purses
I really want to know what kinda purse John carries. :rotfl2:
I think lunch was the kids fav part of middle school. Burgers, fries and Pizza. So much better than the hot lunch line.
Now you know it is just Don and me in our house and our dining table is the catch all. He puts it there and I clean it off. Everyday. I tell him if it is something he wants to keep put it in his office or pitch it. I love to pitch everything.
Sheri's rule you do nothing till homework is done. Poor Andrew after soccer practice and dinner it is after 7. He always has had homework. I think Austin has had it 2 times all through school. Or he has it and we don't know. As long as he is getting A's who cares. He did get an acceptance letter to Univ of MO yesterday. He still wants Drury but he can go to MU for about 1/3 of Drury. Sheri is making him live on campus no matter where he goes. He said he had about 4 schools he wanted to go see.
Have a great day

Lisa: My kitchen counter is the "catch-all". DH complains when he can't find something he put there after I've cleaned it off. Mostly those pesky little slips of paper with unidentified phone numbers on them. Sorry! If it was important enough to you, DH, you would have put it somewhere safe! :laughing: Usually I just sweep everything off into the junk drawers and clean them out later.
Ginny: That's wonderful news about Austin! I'm so PROUD!

Lisa, happy to hear Hunter was OK for lunch!!!! Dayne always ate at school (rarely brought his lunch) which means he did not eat!!! BY HIS CHOICE NOT MINE if I fixed something he would leave it home. I really think the kid has a type of aneroxia. He will go ALL day without eating!!! HS has a pizza and hot sandwich line but it was always too long :eek:!
Gwendolyn dips in ranch, ketchup, mayo--whatever is available and will mix all three if she can.
Dayne DOES NOT eat any condiments!!! so far neither does Ashton.
Danny eats like Gwendolyn but you can add French and Italian to the list his hamburger turn my stomach! ;)
Lisa you may have to open another photobucket acct under John or Hunter's email address.

The over the limit means how many people have viewed your pictures in a months time. I had that with my TR and I upgraded. If you have too many people look at your pics in amonths time, it will take the pictures off till the start of the new month. You get a box instead that says something about account exceed limit or something like that. I got a free upgrade by joining the Disney movie club. So it did cost, but I got movies!!!! LOL!

Okey dokey, I've got a few spare minutes now.
Wasn't it just the best thing ever that Lacey got her grant!!!! The most we have ever gotten is $3,000.00. Don't get me wrong, I will take anything we can get but it feels so good to receive more. Especially since her tuition is now well over $11,000.00! Thank goodness, she is able to work off some of her actual mission expenses by being the children church pastor. We'll be owing the mission money for years but that's okay.
I really want to keep the new routine up at the house. We have three entry doors to the house and the one they use most is the utility room which looks straight into the kitchen. Our snack bar is the first thing people see when they come in my door and I don't want it to be junky all the time.
I think I can get Hunter to keep his room semi-clean so long as I remind him every night to pick it up. The poor thing has no place to sit anything but on the floor. John started building him some cabinets and a desk for his room but then a "paying customer" came along and the project got put on hold. Isn't that the way it always goes? We were in our house almost 10 years before I got my large entertainment center built.
Hunter just called. He has Math homework. He said it was easy and he finished most of it in class. I am always leery about that. I want to actually see that he's done it. It's not that I don't trust him, I just want to see it completed.
Let's move on to the "dipping" subject. I've got a weird one for ya. Lacey buys an ice cream shake and fries and dips her fries in her shake. :confused3 She said the mission kids go through Ranch dressing like nobody's business. Hunter's not much of a dipper. Pretty much the only thing he likes is ketchup.
Ginny, I have to keep Miracle Whip and mayo at our house too. John likes to put Miracle Whip on his peas and mix them up. Everybody in his family does it. I think it's disgusting looking but he says it is good. He doesn't care too much for mayonnaise but will eat it if we don't have Miracle Whip.
When we went to Toy Story Pizza Planet, we saw a little boy and girl put a whole packet of Ranch salad dressing on their pizza. They just spread it all around the top. It actually didn't look too bad.
About photobucket....I am photobucket stupid too so ya'll don't feel bad. Thank goodness, Jen can explain it to us. Right now, I have over 2,000 pictures on their site. This includes last year's Disney trip, Lacey's graduation, a few others and then the ones that I have uploaded from this year's trip. I am sure that I'll go way over my limit and will probably do as Connie suggested and open another photobucket account using John's name and another email address.
Back to work!

I was going to tell you I know of a really good cabinet maker. Maybe if you would offer him the "right price" he might be more accomodating. I do like ice cream and chips. It's that salty/sweet mixture. And I will eat anesthesia donuts (powdered to those of you who have never smelled ether) with anything. A coke is best or chocolate milk.
My dippers use Ranch if mayo is not available. I don't dip anything. I don't like ketchup. Alex dips everything in mustard. I don't know where these knucklers get such ideas.

Wow, it's been awhile since I've posted, but I've been keeping up!
Dipping: When I was in high school, we used to walk over to the local diner after school and order a big order of fries and vanilla milkshakes and dip the fries in the shake. So good! Such a vivid sensory memory for me too! I also love ranch for dipping pizza and breadsticks and good tarter sauce for fries.
The Dump Zone: Our's is the kitchen counter. Drives me insane. Mail, bags, toys, paystubs (DH's), keys, and everything else. I clean it up about once a week, but no system ever keeps it clutter free. I've hung up a set of hooks for keys, put a basket for DH's man clutter (I swear, he needs a purse more than I do), nothing works.
Homework/Procrastination: My older son is a smart kid, well behaved in class, even got a 4.0 GPA the first semester last year. Imagine my surprise when I got his mid term progress report for 2nd semester and he was FLUNKING two subjects!!! He forgot to turn in assignments or he forgot to do the assignments in the first place. When he gets a big assignment like a report, I have to sit down and plan out with him what he needs to accomplish by what date, like you need to have an outline by Friday, first draft by Weds, artwork drawn by Thurs., etc. If he didn't take completely after me in this capacity, I would go crazy. But I was always the same way at his age.
Congrats on Lacey's grant. It is such a relief to get that kind of help, and know it's not going to be hanging over your head when you're done with school to pay it back.

Thanks a bunch. I have many more somewhere on photobucket. Just gotta find them.

I thought they turned out pretty good, especially the outside ones. The double beds were the only slight problem we had with the CBR this go round. Usually, it's just John, Hunter and I. Hunter and I will sleep in a bed and give John one to himself. Since Lacey came along this time, we had to sleep two to a bed. It wasn't too bad though since by the time we hit the bed, we were all dog tired and didn't even notice how big or small the beds were.:laughing:
Hunter wasn't chillin' for long. He was ready to get out the door and explore.

Lisa, if we ever stay onsite, I think your CBR pics are enough to convince me it would be our resort of choice. I love the theming! It seems like a great contrast to the theme park atmosphere, like you're getting the best of both worlds staying there... super duper WDW theme park plus relaxing, luxurious tropical resort too.

Those are almost the exact words that John and I use to describe the CBR. It's a vacation within a Disney vacation.
I have told all of you that there is no such thing as "hijacking" my threads. Everybody is welcome to plug, say or do whatever they want here. We're just a bunch of crazy Dis friends. I'm gonna head over to your thread right now.

It's officially started! My new trip report. Right now, I've named it the "Stop Making Me Laugh Or I'll Pee My Pants! Go Back! I've Lost My Shoe! Trip Report. That could change if I think of something else. But, we did shout those words more than a few times on the trip.

I'm off to read it!
It looks like we may not be doing Disny anytime soon.
DH went to the Drs today. I had mentioned in my TR how he was having problems keeping up with becuase of a sore hip. Well he finally was told to go to a specialist, which he should've been told over a year ago to go. His Dr is horrid, and we've all told him to find a new one. Well anyways, he went today and he has to have a hip replacement. So with the recovery and cost, I'm sure fun things are going to be cut to a minimum for awhile. I feel bad for him, but I hope this helps him. The specialist was appalled that this dumb Dr made him get mri's and other un-needed test before he sent him to a specialist. He said that the x-rays from last Dec show the problem and he should've been sent then, and obviously this Dr has no clue how to read them. The specialist put it in terms DH could understand..."this wheel isn't going to last on the cart much longer" lol!
So thats our lovely news for the day! But hopefully this will cure alot of DH's problems and his sleep problems too since he is in so much pain.

I'm coming back in a little while to respond to the most recent "kitchen catch-all", "dipping" posts but just wanted to share some FABULOUS news. Lacey just found out that she's getting an almost $5,000.00 Federal grant for school. We don't have it in writing yet but that's what she was told on the phone. Gotta love those grants.....don't have to pay them back!
That's great! I am getting caught up on this thread then I am going over to your new one, Looking forward to it! Glad you guys had a good time.

Since this thread is now mostly just chatter amongst us friends, I thought I'd post Hunter's school day news. He called and said his English teacher told him "you're not in kindergarten anymore!" when he told her that he didn't have his textbook. He asked if he could go to his locker and see if it was there but that he didn't think that she had ever issued him one. She let him go but when he got back she barked at him that he had to pay $5.00 to get another book. Hunter said he really doesn't remember her giving him a book. Instead of making this teacher all ticked off at him for the entire year, I'm going to send the $5.00 (by check so she can't pocket it).
Hunter was pretty upset by the whole ordeal but he's over it now. Thank goodness!

I had that problem with one of Gwendolyn's teachers her sophomore year. they have to pay a class fee for every class; we knew we had paid it (cash, of course). Well they would not give her her report card until the $3 was paid. So, now I sit down and write a check for anywhere $2-$20 depending per fee. Last year I wrote out 8 checks:laughing: probably the most I wrote in an entire year. Tell him we believe him and that his teacher is problably just overwhelmed with the start of the new year and would feel really bad if she knew he did not even get a book issued :upsidedow

Poor Hunter. I'm glad he's over it now. That can be pretty traumatic on the third day of school...even if it is HIS fourth day.
Teachers are human too, but it sure did seem like she was kind of mean.
I hope he has a good Friday (and everyone else does too)!

Poor Hunter. No kid likes to be called out in front of the class. A little over the top. You are right. Send a check made out to the school. Some people really shouldn't be teachers. They do it for the wrong reason. BTW, Don is making a new batch of wine. I'm smelling it as I type. I will pm you so I can get your address. Loving the new report.

I will never forget the time I was in 6th grade. I went to a Catholic School. They were very strict. Tuiton for the school was set up to make payments each month. Well, one time the princepal was in the classroom giving out the report cards. (that is how they did it there!) She gets to my name, which was last because my maidan name starts with a W!! "Danielle W... you won't be receiving your report card today because your parents have yet to make their monthly tuition payment!!!" OMG! How embarrassing!!! In front of the whole class!!! I went home that day so mad at my parents! LOL! Well, they were never late on a tuition payment again!! :rotfl:

Thanks for agreeing with me on the teacher situation. I talked with Hunter a little more about it this morning on the way to school. He said the teacher started out nice when he said he didn't have a workbook. Then, when he came back from his locker, she said something like, you just wasted $5.00 of your parents' money by losing your book. Then, some guy came in the room pushing a cart and she said, we've already had somebody start this school year losing a book. When the guy asked who, she pointed Hunter out to him and the entire class. He's the one that actually make the kindergarten comment.
John and I both told Hunter exactly what to say to his teacher today. We even practiced because we didn't want him to say it in such a way that his teacher would think he was being smarty to her.
The teacher is his 7th period teacher so she was probably tired of new kids and school at the end of the day. Still no excuse.
If I didn't want her to be pissed off at Hunter all year long, I'd have called the school up and spoken to her.

You know for a fact those teachers hold what parents say against those kids. It gets worse in middle school and high school. I don't understand where adults get off picking on our youth. Kids learn what the see and hear. They then think it is ok to act and talk that way. Wrong, wrong, wrong.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I'm so sorry to hear that he has a teacher who sounds very tired and sarcastic!!! Tell Hunter to try very hard (I know it is hard--I started homeschooling for sortof that reason) not to let it bother him. That she is tired and really needs an adjustment and hopefully someone else's parents will deal with it; if not to remember it is only for one hour of the day and not ALL DAY!
Dayne's third grade year a teacher called him out for being in the restroom too long n front of the entire classroom. He had had a BM and he was soooo embarassed!! and she gave him punishwork (multiplication tables--he still hates multiplication to this day!). he came home and cried his heart out for at least an hour!
Words cut so much more than a physcial slap and so many people don't even realize how they hurt a person!!!
I hope he has a better day!!!
and a great weekend to all!!!!

Oh Jen, I am so sorry. I know that surgery isn't something that anyone looks forward to but it sounds like this is going to help him out a lot.
My niece had been going to the same doctor for years and years. She was greatly overweight so she went to a doctor who specialized in stomach stapling. He requested her records from her old doctor. Come to find out, she was diabetic. How did he know? Because her old doctor ran tests three years ago and the results came back that she had diabetes. Did the doctor tell her? No. That kinda stuff pisses me off to the nnnnth degree.:headache:
Will you have to get someone to help you around the farm? Or do you have enough help already?
I'm saying a prayer for your entire family right now.

Thought I'd give you guys a school report. Hunter took the $5.00 check to his English teacher. He told her he was sorry for any mixup and asked her when she handed out the workbooks. She said that she didn't know. You'll remember that he was out on Friday. I bet dollars to donuts that's when she handed them out and didn't want to admit it. Anyway, he said she was nicer to him this time. He still didn't get a workbook though. The office said it would probably be Monday before he got one. Gosh, I didn't want school to start out this way.

Oh and I meant to tell you what I did last night.
When we were at Main Street Bakery, they had large Mickey head rice crispy treats but they were $10.95 each. Lacey wanted to get some to take back to her fellow students but would have had to buy three of them. I told her I had a Mickey shaped cake pan at home and I'd make them some.
The pan I have is heart shaped with a large Mickey had embossed in it. I made two regular rice crispy treats and one chocolate and regular mixed together. I have them in a box ready for the postman to pick up.
Connie, Ashton's Mickey is on it's way to you. The post office website label printing option was down for two days so I couldn't print out a label. But, he should have it soon.

I just hated for Lacey to pay almost $11.00 for the Mickey rice crispy treats. That's why I told her that I'd made 'em. Much cheaper for me to make them than for her to buy them. Yes, I had to pay for shipping but I always send "care packages" to the Mission kids anyway.

I really really think that the teacher handed out the workbooks on Friday. Hunter can be absentminded sometimes but I don't think he would have totally forgotten a book if the teacher had just handed them out.

I understand your frustration. It took years for my cousin to get a full time teaching position.
I am sure she was "supposed" to keep a list of the students she handed the books out to but I doubt that she did.

The way I look at it is this.....if we tick the teacher off in just the first week of school, can you imagine how she'll treat him the rest of the year? I don't want to even think about it.
I used to make all kinds of homemade goodies all the time. Used to be that you'd never walk into my house and there not be some kind of homemade dessert. Nowadays, not so much. I finally realized that I was working myself to death cooking, cleaning, washing clothes, etc. I could either be tired all the time and my house be spotless OR I could keep my house clean, watch a little television and not be so tired. I chose the later. The house is not a mess. We aren't going hungry or naked. And, I feel a lot better.:laughing:
