Does anybody have any ideas on this? We don't fly out to go home until 6:30 in the evening on the day that we get off the ship? We would like to do something fun and not just sit in the airport all day. We will have a rental car. I would appreciate hearing what anyone else has done in this situation.
Thanks!:D

Go to one of the parks. It will be a short day, but it would definitely be fun!

we took the Airboat ride out of Christmas (about 20 minutes from the ship) and absolutely loved it! saw lots of alligators and even an eagle in a tree plucking an egret (talk about the circle of life) The website for them is http://www.airboatrides.com/
We really enjoyed this and will be willing to give you more info if you need it!
You can always stop by the Kennedy Space Center. It's on your way back to the airport. You can easily spend most of a day there. I know it used to be free, but they started charging admission a few years ago... :( :( :(

Another vote for Kennedy Space Center. I wouldn't bother with WDW. By the time you get off the ship and gte the car packed, and drive to WDW and get parked and to the gates of a park, it will be someplace around or after 10:00am. You'll ned to be back at the airport by 4:30 for your flight, which means leaving WDW at 3:30 (or at least walking towards the gates.) That's a pretty short day, and not worth the cost of admission unless you have AP's and just want to spend a little time at Epcot or AK.
If KSC doesn't interest you, how about DTD or the outlet malls? Or depending on what day you get off, go to the Peabody Hotel for brunch and watch the ducks march. What a GREAT meal--one of the best Sunday brunches I've ever eaten!

If you don't want to pay the $$ for the parks but want a little more Disney time, park over by Downtown Disney and hang out over there. There is lots to do, and you can always take a WDW bus to AK Lodge to view the animals or Fort Wilderness to visit the petting zoo. We also like to go down to Boardwalk. Lots of fun and free or cheap entertainment at WDW.

Go shopping at Ron Jon's in the morning. Take Shirley out to lunch. Relax on the beach a little bit in the afternoon. Your day will fly by because all the time you'll want to allow to be checked in on time.
