I am thinking about spending a weekend this summer on Long Point. Anyone live near there and can recommend a place to stay and some nice restaurants? Are there any neat things to do? I am not looking for laying on the beach all weekend, but hoping to maybe do a little hiking, check out some historical stuff. Kind of a mini vacation as we won't be going north this summer.
We have relatives with a cottage at Long Point. We also enjoy camping at Long Point provincial park. The main attraction in Long point is the beach. Beautiful, long and clean sand.
As for restaurants. I would likely go to Port Dover of Turkey Point to eat. I think there is only 1 or 2 places to eat in Long Point.
We have also gone to Backas Hertigage Villiage. Great for hiking and camping. (www.lprca.on.ca/heritage.htm)
Here is a link to some cottage rentals I found.

PORT DOVER would be a good place to stay the Erie beach hotel is where we stay every year for a few days. Ask for the mini suite its the best room there. The museum there is pretty interesting, take a cruise on the river ride charter, lots of things to do in and around the area.:thumbsup2

My family spends every weekend at Long Point. It is a beautiful place and a very popular place. There isn't really much in the way of hotels there, just cottage rentals. You would need to jump on that quickly though because it is a busy spot. If you like camping, there is the provincial park. The closest hotels would be in Port Dover or Simcoe. There is a couple small restaurants in Long Point and Port Rowan. Nothing fancy, it is very quaint and small town. The beach is the main feature at Long Point and boating. Pontoon boats can be rented in port Rowan to expolre long Point Bay.
The Bachus Conservation Area in Port Rowna has some nice Trails and a pioneer village. Lots of neat events happening all year there. Check them out on line. Turkey Point also has some nice trails to explore.
Good Luck in your planning!
