Has anyone ever been to Hilton Head and gotten an upgrade? I will be there in July with dd18, dd12, dh,myself and now my dd18 will be bringing a friend. I have a one br booked, but wonder if a 2 br might be available, and if so, would they charge more points or upgrade for the price of a 1br?

If you want 2 bedroom it'd be best to change your reservation before your trip if there is availability; summer months are extremely busy at HHI DVC. If you are booked on points you would need to have enough points available to cover the increase needed from 1 bedroom to 2.
Also, when booked on DVC points the only way you'd be moved to a larger villa at no cost to you would be if for some reason the villa you booked had to be taken out of service for a maintenance issue and they didn't have that same size villa available. Paying cash to upgrade villa size on points reservation isn't done. Also, on your check-in day iirc DVC's no cancellation policy kicks in - in other words the 1 bedroom reservation you have has to be used or you lose the points because it is check-in day for that reservation so I don't think it is possible at check-in time for you to alter your reservation even if you have points available to go from 1 bedroom to 2 bedroom villa.

If you don't book the two bedroom, you'll have to bring bedding and linens for the fifth person in your party. DVC won't provide a cot or extra bedding. If you think you will be too crowded, you may have to dis-invite the friend.

If you ask for it, they may give it to you and charge you the extra points even if they don't tell you this is what they're doing. 3 teens in a pull out queen doesn't sound very good plus all members of the party must be listed.

It's tough that time of the year. Good luck.
