Here we are team! Yet another month has come and gone. We have reached Summer Time! YAY!!! The kids are out of school. Vacations are right around the corner. We will all be able to show off the fruits of our labor during the winter months as we head to the beach (or wherever we go). It has been an awesome year so far for the Duckies and I can only imagine that this train that we are on will continue motoring right along. Let's have a great month Team!!!

Here is the website again so we can keep track on our progress.

Let's stay motivated, focused and let's all have a really great Summer!

Thanks for all you do!

Yeah I found you!! And it looks like I might be the first one to post this month. I am happy to say I was able to get out and get in 2.7 miles today. I walked but did add a little running in there. I didn't feel bad. Just had to get something done for National Running day so I feel good.

Well, it seems that I can't be counted to keep up with the boards anymore. Sorry everyone. I have hope that this will resolve itself in the next few weeks as I finish up my admissions job, but perhaps I should know better than to make promises now. Just know that I keep thinking about you all, and I really do hope to be more participatory soon.

I have kept up my running though, and wanted to report my totals for May:

Miles - 43.3
Minutes - 425

I hope everyone is doing well! I am planning to do a quick run today in honor of National Running Day!

Hello, Duckies! I am guessing that today is the reporting day, being the 7th. So here is my miles for the week of the 1st thru the 7th. It was pretty wet here last week, so I did not ride much during the week (only one commute), but made up for it on the weekend. Today was an annual bike ride put on by a local club, and I did the 65 mile route with some friends. With a little riding yesterday, the bike total is 100 miles and 6 hours. As I did not bike much, I did run more than usual, plus I did a 5 K yesterday, so my total running miles is 12, and the time is 1 hour, 22 minutes, and 32 seconds. as the 5K time was 22:32.

I hope everyone has a great week, hopefully we will not have as much rain as last week.

:stitch:'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

This one is JenG's very good question to the cousins, excerpted, about the difference between building a base and training for a race. The mixer starts here (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=32176694&postcount=989) on the 'Ohana thread.

What is the difference between maintaining or building a base and training for a race? I've only been running for a year and I've either been taking time off running or training for a race. What is just building a base?

How is your approach (mental or otherwise) and exercise routine different when building your base versus training? Do you run less? Do different exercises? Approach the run differently psychologically?

Good Morning Triple D's, I'm finally back home, had an absolutely fantastic trip to Peru/WDW but now it's time to pay the piper. This week will be crazy trying to get caught up with work, but I WILL get in some exercise/miles.
The last two reporting periods, ending June 7th, I'm sorry to say I have 00 to report. I did lots and lots of walking, in pretty harsh conditions (high altitudes), but it wasn't exercise type speed walking and I didn't track it so I won't record it.
Glad to be home and, believe it or not, looking forward to some real workouts. :rotfl:

Hey everyone! So I tried to start off June with a bang and worked out fabulously June 1st. Apparently something I did though didn't agree with my back AT ALL so I was gym-less from then until this past Sunday when I ran my first official 10k. :cool1: I didn't want to stress my back too much beforehand so I took it easy and just tried to stretch as much as possible.

We couldn't have asked for better weather for the Montclair YMCA 10k. It was slightly hotter than I'm used to but I didn't mind it too much. I ran it with my two friends and had a great day. One of my friends (Jaime) is Speedy Gonzalez and finished it in 57 minutes, I think. I finished it in my personal best of 1:05:and change and my best friend Christina also finished in her personal best of 1:10 possibly? I actually forgot to stop my watch when I ran through the finish line and didn't realize it until a minute later. :confused3

The actual run for me went well for the most part. Christina and I started out together and kept under a 10min mile for mile1. Slowed down a bit after that and then I believe I lost Christina after about mile 3.5-ish. Luckily there were water stops at every mile for me to grab a few sips and douse my arms and neck to cool down. At around mile 4.75 I found a new running partner and finished the race with a nice guy from Peru. I couldn't really chit-chat but it was nice to have someone running next to you and giving small words of wisdom and encouragement.

My knee held up pretty well. Slight tightness and discomfort on and off but it wasn't bad. At around mile 5.75 though I got a HORRIBLE pain on the outer side of my right foot (same side as my knee). I honestly even thought of stopping and walking for the remainder but my new friend kept telling me to dig on. I have no idea where the pain came from, I've never had pain like that before. I thought maybe it was due to running on only one side of the road but this race was fairly mixed and I didn't stick to one side. It's still pretty painful to walk today at work and hobbling into the building today was no fun. Anyone else have experience with this? :headache: So annoying!

So that was my fun day. Even with the pain I still had a great time and really hope I can run again in a day or two.

After all my aches and pains I'm thinking of making an appointment with an Orthopedic and Sports Medicine practice that I found right by my house. It's three doctors that only specialize in sports injuries and rehab. I want to get to the bottom of this knee discomfort (and now my lovely new foot pain! :scared1:).

Ok...I've babbled enough... I'll post my hours for the past week in a few mins after I calculate them..

If anyone wants to see my runs with my Garmin Forerunner 405.. (just cause I'm still in love with my 405 and think it's the coolest thing EVER!)

Hey everyone! 1st week of June is already over. Can you believe that the year is to the half way point? It's crazy how fast time flies by. I have to say real quick that I am glad that Sharon is back home, safe and sound. Really am glad that you had such a good trip.

I would also like to welcome our newest teammate, RunningMouse (aka Dave). Somehow, I missed the intro and I apologize for that. I am very excited to have you here on the team and look forward to gettting to know you better. We have a great group here but I am sure it will not take you long to figure that out.

There is still a lot of stuff going on here with me but I am trying to manage the best that I can. Hoping something will come to a conclusion very soon so I can rest, at least a little bit. But until then, here is my report.

Miles - 85
Hours - 12.25

Not as many as last week, I know. I am hoping to go over 100 again this week and pluc, I am doing a 4 mile race this Saturday for Big Brothers, Big Sisters. That should be fun.

Hope everyone is having a great week and I do look forward to hearing from you all soon!

That is a pretty good time! Congratulations!

As for the foot problem, not sure but this last race I was told several times on how much better it is to get real good shoes. Mine are just off the rack from Sports Authority but I am thinking of going to a real running shop when it is time for the long races. Hope it gets better for you!

Thank you! I'm very happy with my time and couldn't ask for anything better. I even surprised myself!

As for my foot... it's still painful but getting better every day. I did get my sneakers from a running store and they fitted me and I also have inserts that I bought (not custom ones). Part of me thinks that it's because I honestly haven't ran consistently in awhile? I ran the week before and maybe once a week before that, but haven't pushed myself as much as I should be and haven't done 6miles in a good two or three months. :confused3 I'm going to try to run more this week so hopefully it gets better! Also might go see a sports running doctor by me to hopefully get some good tips or suggestions.

Hello DDDs!

I've started a new thread to keep track of the rosters more easily. I expect interest in teams will start to pick up soon as the training to train and full-on training for the fall races start.

The link to this new thread is here (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2198827), and it will include the rosters on the first post and monthly totals for all the teams on the second. Other posts will be for requests and new information.

Bryan and/or Betsy, could you please send me an updated roster for your team? Active members only. TIA! :goodvibes

Also, what are cohoe's and disneygirlinnj's real names, if they use them here? I'm trying to plan ahead for a "cheat sheet" for the POP meet. :cool1:

Hey DDDs,

Hello. I'm Running Mouse up here in Plymouth MA. No, I don't run by the Mayflower & Plymouth Rock every day but we have some great trails and most of my runs are on dirt paths in the hilly woods & cranberry bogs of Plymouth called the "Pine Hills". That's why I love the FLAT Disney marathon :) I am new to your group and happy to jog around with you !! Thank You to all who welcomed me. I just don't know what to do !! do I just tell you what I ran & time each week ? please PM me if I'm to do anything different.

I never keep the time but I will in the future. My goal is just to get to 25 miles a week for now.

Hi, Dave and welcome to the triple Ds!

The way the tracking works is that for each month, miles and minutes are reported on the 7th, the 14th, the 21st, and the last day of the month (at least that is the ideal -- some of us are slackers and fall behind regularly :rolleyes1)

Oh, and miles done in races count as double!

Glad to have you aboard,

Welcome again Dave!

All exercise counts.. you count miles for things that you can calculate miles (eliptical, bike, running, etc). You also count those minutes. If you do other forms of exercise, you can count those as minutes.

So if you run 5 miles in 50 mins and then take a cardio class for 50 mins... you would report in 5 miles and 100 mins. And also like someone else said... if you run in a race, you double your miles for that race.

I hope I explained that correctly! :rotfl:

Hi, Gang...
I've been so MIA. Sorry.

Dave, Welcome!! The others have told you what you need to know!

I have been sick with upper respiratory crud since last Sunday. But since I have a 1/2 Ironman this coming weekend, I tried to push it last week and at least get some training in, though I think that has made this cold linger...and linger...and linger...still hacking up a lung.

But, I did get in
40.4 miles bike/ 2:45
11.2 miles run/2:10
1.1 mile walk/:20

total 52.7 miles/5:15
Tried to run today, but it didn't go well. Hope to be rested by Sunday!

Jenn..WTG on the 10K!!

I am trying to fix the spreadsheet. We do have some June numbers up, just the overall totals got a little out of whack. :confused3
I sort of broke it when I went and deleted the people who don't post anymore. The people who come and post every couple of weeks or monthly (you know who you are! :goodvibes) are still on there, because you are still contributing and checking in from time to time, which I appreciate.

Big Vic...hang in there...sounds like you have had a big run of LTO/WTO. :grouphug:

See ya! gotta get more rest. and maybe some hot tea and cough drops. ugh.

Hey Duckies....

Warrior in the House!! I know, I know, you all are just flabergasted right??:lmao:

As prevously stated, Debra and I are trying to put together a more current WISH smaller teams thread. Keeping the teams members names current and getting people on a team that want to be.
Also on that thread is a post which I am doing that will show how all of the teams are doing.
So....... Please start a new thread each month. On the first post please include the teams total Miles and Minutes. This will make it much easier on my part to look up each teams numbers. Please don't post a link to a spreadsheet. Lots of numbers to keep track of, so having it out there in plain sight makes it easier for me (and other teams to stop by and check it out)
And with that said.... I need the DDD's time and miles for each month starting with February. You can PM me or post it on that new thread that Debra started.

Thanks Duckies!!!:thumbsup2

Do you ever do any of the 5k's we have around the area? I was just wondering. I'm planning on my first race of the summer to be the Trak Shak Retro 5k.

I am doing the Big Brother Big Sister run on Saturday, a 5k at Greystone and another 5k in September at the Hoover Rec by Spain Park. Those are the only local races that I have planned so far. I am thinking about doing an 8.2 mile race at Oak Mountain State Park running up to Pevine Falls and back down. That sounds like a killer because I hate doing hills.

Tracy I will try to work on that for you tonight or tomorrow, if I can. I will do everything I can.

Hope everyone is having a great week so far!!!!

Hello Duckies! Hope everyone had a good week. I know one thing, summer has not showed itself here yet, the weather the past two weeks has been quite poor. Unless you are a farmer, that is! But luckily the weekends have been quite nice, though this morning it was pretty wet. Today I was entered in three races, all bike events, a 20K road race, and a 5K and a 10K time trial. Which, by the way, equals 21 miles, more or less. If you count warm up laps, I would have to add more, but I was not keeping track of that. I bettered my time in the 10K by 2 seconds and won the eventfor my age group, and came in 2nd overall. I also won my age group in the 5K and came in second in the 20K. And finished of fthe day by going into the city and riding another 20 miles there. There are quite a few very nice bike paths in NYC.

Anyway, to report my time. I had 95 regular miles, and 21 in the race, which doubles, so 137 miles, and 7.5 hours

Hope everyone has a great week!

Hey Mickey
06-15-2009, 09:04 PM
well, June is turning out to be a wash, both literally and figuratively -- acording to the news tonite, we've had rain 12 out of 1 days this month, and its been miserable here. There are mushrooms growing in the flower patch where my sunloving annuals were planted! Every time I think there's a break and go get ready to do soemthing outside (like run) it clouds right back up and you never know when you're about to get soaked. If I don't get me some sunshine soon, its gonna be ugly.

which perhaps explains my sudden, irrational decision to go to wdw at the end of next week.:rolleyes1 Its gonna be just me and my two sons, so we don't need more than a basic hotel room to crash in and there are some decent AP rates at the value and moderates, so I think I am going to go for it. Which brings me to a question: I know a lot of folks on this board stay at POR or POFQ marathon weeknd. What is the difference between the two? Should I stay at one of those (I'll have a car b/c I'm driving down with them), or just go for POP or an AS resort? Any opinions? anyone? buehler?

oh, right, miles and minutes were due yesterday. sorry yet again Betsey. Here's my report for 6/8 through 6/14, which was, as preciously stated, pretty much a wash:

miles: 8.5
minutes: 90

this week will be better, even if it means the dreadmill...

WOW!!! You guys are doing incredible. Make your captain feel very proud of all of you and at the same time, you make me feel like I need to get my big backside into gear! :rotfl2: Seriously though, you are doing a wonderful job. Sounds like we have a lot of people getting outside and enjoying the warm weather. That's great!! Just remember your sunscreen. (Public Safety Announcement)

As for me and my race, it didn't happen. The race actually was cancelled (or postponed) due to bad weather. I am hoping that they make it up but now I just have to wait and see when. I wouldn't have been able to run in it this weekend anyway as there was a lot of stuff going on around here and I ended up not getting much sleep so I wasn't properly rested for a race. I am going to do a separate post in a couple of days to fill in the blanks more. Now for my totals for the week.

Miles - 82.75
Hours - 9.75

This week was a bit of a downer because I took a couple of days off to rest for the race and then it never happened. Bummer! Hopefully this week will be better for me.

Keep up the tremendous amounts of effort. TRIPLE D'S ROCK!!!!!!

Rich, yes, the races were all on one day. 20K first, then the 5K, then the 10K. There was a good bit of time between races, so I felt fine. And rode another 20 after. (just for fun!)

Erica, have only stayed in POFQ when it was just called PO, and POR was just R. The only difference is the theming, POFQ has a New Orleans feel, and POR has a more rustic decor. I hear good things from some friends about the lounge at POFQ! Liked the boat that would take you to DTD from either. And also OKW too, I think. Have a great trip! (You are driving down? Haven't done that in a while!) Bring some sunshine back!

Great job Betsy, and welcome to our new members! I am one of those (ahem) occasional posters that was mentioned. I blame it all on Facebook - I spend so much time there now I forget to check in on the Disboards!

I am posting today because I really need to find some motivation again. I have had a really overwhelmingly busy spring, and it has been quite stressful. I seem to have lost my mojo, particularly this month - I have run only twice this month so far!

So I'm just signing in to ask for some butt-kicking! Go ahead, I need it!

:stitch:'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

I asked a variation of this on team thread, but it makes for a good general prompt. Lots of us are finalizing our late summer/fall/early 2010 race schedules and/or in training for them. So let's talk events. Two questions:

What event have you committed to that you're most looking forward to, Disney marathon weekend excluded? And
What are you most looking forward to about Disney marathon weekend, if you are attending? (With sympathy :grouphug: to those who are not.)

Hello 3D's! Happy Father's Day to the dads here. Hope some of you are staying drier than we are in this area. The rain does not want to leave! At least it seems to stay away a good part of the weekends, anyway. But a few times this week I got rained on for the ride home from work.

Betsy, nice bike! My road bike is a Cannondale. I have a Specialized mtb, and my commuter is my old Diamondback mtb, almost 20 years old, on its 4th bottom bracket and many sets of tires. I guess the only original parts on it now are the frame and brake levers.

Vic, hope you get back to training soon.

I had a big bike weekend. On Saturday I participated in the Harpoon Brewery's Brewey to Brewery ride. It went from their Boston location to their Vermont brewery. 150 miles, and you had to do it in 10 hours or less. I was quite pleased with my 8 hour and 15 minute time. It was the longest ride I have ever done, with some wicked hills to get up, but look forward to signing up for next year! Hey, they had beer at the end!

So, counting my brewery mileage, the tally for the week is 237 miles and 13 hours, 45 minutes.

And I have a new friend on Facebook. Hi Jen!

Have a good week, everyone!

Augie, sounds like a very fun ride! Congratualtions.

For me, I will be a little late reporting my miles/hours for this past week as the computer that I keep track of miles/hours crashed. I should have it back from the shop in a few days and be able to post my miles/hours for the week.
You'd think I could remember them, but:confused3I can't.

Have a great week Triple D's.

No training for me this last week. Was in Omaha part of last week and although I had good intentions on getting some training in I got a little side tracked by the CWS!!! It's so much better in person than on TV. Now it's time to rest up, recover and get back on track training wise! sigh....

The kick in the butt worked - I did 4.3 miles on Sunday! Thanks!

I'm giving my totals for June so far. Don't laugh (most of these miles are in the past week):

Miles - 10.1
Minutes - 127

I plan to get out there 3 times this week again, and you'll hear from me next weekend. However, on Sunday I am flying with the family to London & Paris for 10 days :cool1:, and I do not expect to get full training weeks in while we're there. I am aiming for one nice long run in both London and Paris - I think that will be a really fun way to see the cities! I'll be back on July 9th and will report in about how I did.

Hey Team! There is so much going on and it is so late. I think I need to have my head examined about my internet hours. Things just don't make sense when I try to stay up this late knowing what time I have to get up in the morning. (No wonder I always want a nap!:rotfl:)

Rich Have fun at the Tournament!! That sounds like something I would enjoy watching. (enjoy more in participating but I guess I would need to take lessons first. lol

My miles suffered a bit this week. I missed a couple of days worth of training because of work and a birthday party for an old friend. But still tried to get out as much as I could. So with that being said, here we go.

Miles - 85
Hours - 11 (went for a very long walk)

Hope all is well with everyone. I will be back in the next day or two to see how you all are.

Take care and have a great week!

Week of June 15-21

It's going to be ninety-three degress for the rest of the week. blech.

Hey Team! Just wanted to do a quick flyby and post what has been going on for the last several months. Most may have already figured it out but just in case. After 16 years of marriage, I have asked for a divorce from my wife. I have been battling about doing this for the last several years and have finally done it. Paperwork is already worked up and now she is dragging her feet about signing. Very frustrating. I know it has affected my captaining around here and I do apologize for that. I will also say that I am very thankful for everyone of you that have prayed for me in the last several weeks. I have been able to feel each one.

Again, I thank you all for your thoughts. All will be fine here. It is for the best. It will make us both stronger.

I do hope that all of you are having a great week and I look forward to talking to you again real soon.

Well, I was too crazed with packing to get my long run in today as I had hoped! I guess that was asking too much. This does put me officially a week behind in my training, but that's OK!

I did get two good, if short, runs in earlier in the week so I do have some miles & hours to report:

Miles: 6.3
Minutes: 85

Our flight leaves at 9pm, and we're in pretty good shape to get there with time to spare! As I said before, I hope to get one run done in London, and one in Paris! I'll take lots of photos. Have a great 10 days while I'm gone!

The mixer starts here (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=32479517&postcount=1077) on the 'Ohana thread.

:stitch:'Ohana Monday Mixer:stitch:

Ah, it's summer. The 4th of July is right around the corner. Summer always strikes me as the time for family vacations and road trips. And I'm sure many of us who are traveling are either participating in races--and :worship: to those of you doing events in the summer heat--or we're continuing to train. So...these random thoughts made me think about the challenges of traveling for WISHers, whether traveling to an event or for other reasons.

This week's mixer asks you to share your best tips and strategies for traveling. We're interested in all things related to staying active on the road, from packing your gear to what kind of exercise you prioritize while squeezed for time and in unfamiliar territory.

A sampling of possible questions: What are the must-brings? How much to pack? How to pack your gear--tips and mistakes to avoid? How to best deal with bulky shoes and stinky clothes? What kind of XT do you do while away from home--do you have anything you bring with you?? What about your guidelines for running/walking in areas with which you're unfamiliar?

I'll probably ask a race-specific traveling question closer to January, but tips on race packing are always appreciated. And those of you who are on the road frequently, for business or pleasure, your expertise is much appreciated. :thumbsup2

Hello, 3D's! Almost a new month, so, Happy July. Four day weekend coming up!

Here is my mileage for the last week (and two days) of the month. All biking, I have to get out and do a some running soon. My time is 16 hours, 40 minutes, and my mileage is 195 miles. 30 of those miles are from a 15 mile bike race. A very wet race. There is an ongoing summer event here called the Friday Night Races. It is held on Friday night, at a nearby college, and run by a local shop. It is laps around the perimeter road, which is almost 2 miles. Either 10, 15, or 20 laps, depending on your class. Last week was team time trials, with two or (mostly) three man teams going off every five minutes for 8 laps. During sign up and warmups the sun was out and it was a beautiful night. Shortly before the first team went off the wind picked up and it began to get cloudy. By the time the third team started it was lightly raining. By the time the sixth team went off it was raining pretty steadily. The seventh team opted to not go, and we were the eighth team. Three laps into it there were a few flashes of lightening in the distance, and by the seventh lap the rain was leting up. But we were pretty soaked by this point, and I was glad to finish.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! Enjoy the holiday, and be safe!

Hey Team! June is over and we have had another incredible month! You are so tremendous in your diligence to keep moving. I really do love being apart of this team. You are all my family and I can't thank you enough for all that you have done for me personally.

This week was a little lighter on the training side due to a visit from the Corporate office that happened yesterday. We had the COO and new CFO of the company at the store yesterday. I found it funny. We spent over 2 weeks getting ready. Working long days and stressing every little tiny detail. The company was in and out of the store in about 30 minutes.:confused3 Don't really get that but hey, I don't get paid the big bucks to worry about it. So with that being said, here are my totals.

Miles - 75
Hours - 12.5

Now, it is time to head into work. Hope everyone has a great day. Don't forget to check out the new thread for the month of July. Let's keep ROCKIN' Ducks!!!
