Good morning Team!

June 3, this Wednesday, is the celebration day of "Get Fit" month! Check around for some fun races in your area! Think about inviting friends and family on an easy 1 mile walk to introduce them to the outdoors! Some of the people I know haven't been outside in years if you don't count the journey to and from the car!

There is an O'hana mixer. They want to know what your favorite training/racing item is! Check it out!

Miles and minutes are coming! Get 'em in, get 'em counted! So Far......

775.49 miles AND 223:18 hours!!!

YTD: 3124.55 miles AND 1,228:49 hours!!

Just 6 months to the Goofy! Are we all building a solid base??

Watch for more news and updates here!

Good Morning Team!

Vicki - congrats on the PB on the race!

Jennifer - hope you are getting settled in your summer home!

I already got the dog walk in - trying to get into the habit of walking before breakfast - not my favorite thing - but necessary in the summer heat.

Have a great day all!

I agree, once the heat finally arrives, we'll have to go in the early am too.

Still brisk here during the day and not too hot for me to go at night.

Day off of walking today, but will be back at it tomorrow. I'm glad to be in June - FINALLY -Summer.

Jennifer, how long are you in Houston? I'll be there in October for Quilt Show.

Well, almost time for me to close up shop here at work.

Denise, I'm only in Houston until mid-July working on a summer program.

I got 9.25 miles in at an 8:40ish pace (around 1hr. 20 min.). I think I'm starting to adjust to the heat and humidity, but I still feel slow and am much more tired at the end of my run.

Best,

Hey Team.

We just got back from the beautiful Canada trip. It was pretty chilly for our princesses doing their half but they did super. Erica, Kim, Vicky and CJ all had a wonderful time.

Vicky thank you so much for your gifts, the baby will love them, Grandma sure does.:)

Connie put me down for 92 miles 41 hours of exercise for may. Erica had 49 miles and 15 hours of exercise for may.

Now I have to go buy a storage building for the kids stuff till they can find an apartment they can afford and then mow the yard. First though a 3 mile training walk, around the home improvement stores to look at sheds.

Have a super day y'all.

Margie, I'm looking forward to exploring. Houston does seem to have an active running community. I'm just taking it solo until I acclimate to the heat.

Today I did a hill work out. About 3 miles total and 23 minutes (just under an 8 minute pace).

Best,
Jennifer

Margie we have been wanting to get a storage building anyway and that way we are not putting out money that we wouldn't get some benefit from our selves. I found a nice 8 X 12 wooden shed that looks like a small barn. Then when they get their stuff out of here we can use it for bikes and the mowers.

I had a great 4.5 mile walk with a stop in the middle to look at sheds.

Good morning Team,

Got the totals updated to here! The totals are climbing, keep those numbers coming in!!!

June 1st was my date to really get down and get serious for laying a base for the marathon training. Yesterday, I did 30 minute warm up and 30 minutes of Pilates! Never hurts at the time.

Jen, I don't know anything about a running community in Houston, but there are lots more races way down there than there are up here!

Denise and Lynn, Getting hot here, too. I love the smell of the plains early summer mornings, so it makes it so much nicer to get out there. I have fresh clean air, and now that the gas and oil drilling and production have dropped off to nothing....along with our pay check.....there's not much traffic to worry about.

Dave! I thought you weren't handy??? Good luck with that little ole barn! They are cute, especially when painted bright red with white trim and a little four rail fence around them. While you are at it, you will need a miniture horse or perhaps you can saddle that lab......

Good luck Scott and Lynn!

Margie! How is Sara doing today?

See ya - Connie

Connie love, I'm not handy, we are having it delivered and installed. We just have to paint it. We are painting it to match the trim on our house.

Glad your air is better but sad your income took a hit, I think about all of us have felt the pinch. But we have love and friendship and money really can't buy that.

Hey Team!

Welll...I got that job I had interviewed for. I'll be working ten hour days and get 3 days off and with my raise I can actually afford to take a 4 day weekend every once in awhile and still bring home more money! It's more than an $8 an hour raise!! :cool1:

I have been taking it easy with the running. Jordan and I have been putting miles in, but nothing more than 5 or so. I'm in a "waiting" phase right now. I don't want to take chances just in case we have a little princess or pirate joining our family. Wouldn't that be a doozy...my new bosses would LOVE that..."Thanks for hiring me...I'm taking 2 months off to have a baby"! Oh well...what's meant to be will be!

Well...I'm here at work and wrapping things up for the day so I should go. Just wanted to pop in and say HI! :grouphug:

Good Evening Team!

No exercise here today - was traveling all day - back to CA for a week.

Dave - glad to hear you made it home safely!

Eva - Congrats on the new job!

Have a great week - do not know if I will find a hot spot after today, so I might not make it here.

We finally started out morning walks. It's getting too hot at night for the ice princess so this was our first am walk. We were busy talking and missed the cut off for 4 miles so we did 5. I was worried about the time factor for Mark but he seems ok with the 5.

It felt good to be out in the fresh air even if it was 4:45 am. No pretty sunrise as the clouds have moved in but alas, we did see a lot of peeks of sun so it's better than nothing.

EVA, hope you have a bun in the oven. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Off for my coffee now, have already showered.

Denise I'm a morning exerciser also. I love the early morning before the traffic and the heat. It's a bit nippier in the winter and I have to use the tready and the mall but when the weather gets nice is wonderful.

Eva,:banana::banana: on the new job and more Disney bucks.

Lynn and Scott I wish I had y'alls building ability. We are having our new storae building delivered and we are having it installed. I can't mess it up that way.

Dave, At least with the storage shed you know it won't blow down! Our neighbors built their own....twice!

Yep I am batching it this week.

Still in trial, hopefully we will get the case to the jury today and a verdict tonight, this has been a long emotional trial....

Cold rain these past two mornings, pups are doing well, will get them for a walk tonight I hope.

Dave wish we were closer, I built a storage barn in about a day. We could knock that puppy out in no time.

Better get back at it.

Good Morning Team!

It's already June & already Wednesday. Time is moving too quickly. Very busy at work & home. Not much time to post.

Hope everyone is doing well with the training. Still having cool temps. but it makes it enjoyable for running.

DH had a great race on Sunday. Cool temps. made for an enjoyable swim. The water was warmer than the air. The wind made the bike portion was unbearable. He is a very strong rider but took 40 mins. to go 10k upwind & up hill. 30 mins to do the remaining 30k.

Eva, Congrats! on the new job.

Vicky & Erica, Congrats! on Sunday's race.

Make it a good one...........Sue

Hi Team! I'm still here :) Just relaxing like Dave said - My right hip was really tight after Sunday and sitting around at a desk on Monday didn't help. I went to see my PT on Monday and we did an active recovery session. I went lighter on the weights and lots of different exercises to try and loosen up my hip. I'll probably try going out for a light 2-3 miler on Saturday but for now, I'm just walking. I have a 5K race next weekend - it's being held on one of the runways at Toronto Pearson Airport.

Dave - It was such a big pick-me up to see you (our) guys at the firefighters' water stop :) The third time I passed by, I was so out of gas then. I hope the baby stuff works out. I have no experience with babies so I didn't know what to get.

Sue - While I haven't worn my sandals to work yet, I'm still loving the cool weather. I tried to explain to my coworkers that it's great but they're not runners so they're waiting for the 30C patio weather :) Congrats to your DH on his tri! Is he going to be doing the Goofy with you in January?

Connie - Thanks for adding in the 20 seconds :) I usually just round down but thought it would be funny to include them this time.

Denise - I'm going to try getting up early a couple times a week this month to do a little bit of yoga. I have zero discipline when it comes to going to sleep early. How is Miranda doing?

Eva - Congrats on the new job! That's fantastic news! Keeping my fingers crossed for good news on the baby front :)

Margie - How's the Goofy training coming along? Did you have a 10K last weekend? I thought I saw something on the WISH race calendar...

Lynn - Send us some of that warm California sunshine :)

Scott - Hope you get a verdict in your case soon!

Mary - How's the running coming along?

Have a great day everyone!

Erica is just relaxing the rest of the week and I'll start her walking again next week.

After we were done yesterday I thought of this Jimmy Buffett song….

So you're looking for a hero

When they don't wear the mask and cape

They're hard to recognize

Even though these are cynical times

Bear it in mind

Connie, darn it quit that. We need you healthy and ready for the Goofy, that little fireball Margie is depending on you.

I had a nice workout this morning, it was the first day of Hunk the Panda, workouts. I did a good pilaties workout, followed by weight training and then some running in the pool. Then took boxes and furniture to the stroage shed for an hour, that was fun since the lab wanted to go in and out with me each trip and trying to make sure Erica's cats didn't go to.

Everyone have an awesome day.

Oh No Connie!

I feel you pain! Poor you. We don't bounce like we did 20 years ago!

Dave, funny you mention the shed, that's one of the issues we had with the city. Our shed 8x16 was moved via flat bed tow truck from one side of the yard to the other to make it more convenient for us. Well it was dropped too close to the property line. We had to have the plot surveyed and found out that our neighbor's shed was partially on our property. She didn't care about ours, we didn't care about hers but the nosy neighbor across the street opened up a whole can of worms. We are now in compliance but the neighbor never resolved their issue with the city - they just moved away. Mark and I are about ready to file a complaint. Ahhhhhhh the life in the city. For the most part we love our neighbors, it's just the trouble makers that give us heartburn.

We went out for 5 this morning. It's cool and cloudy again but we beat the rain. Feel great. It is hard getting out of bed at 4:45. Mark actually asked me if we could go earlier. I gave him "THE LOOK".

Well time to dress and make me presentable.

Have a good one.

I am up and at 'em....well not so much at 'em! :lmao: Thanks for the nice thoughts on my ankle. Not so bad this morning. I wanted to do some walking today, but I know it will be screaming pretty quickly, so I am just going to rest it again. I wll do some Pilates Mat work and stuff like that. My core probably needs more work than my legs, anyway!

I enjoyed reading the diverse points of view on the "streaking" thread. I can't wait until more folks chime in.

Denise , we had a problem with the neighbors shed being on our property, too. So, we bought their house, now it's on OUR property! :) Of course our property values are probably way different than yours. We got it for less than a lot in a city costs.

Guess I will go check out some more threads! see ya! Connie

Got my run in and the pups fed, They would never let me forget them. No wind when I started and it just started up after I got home. Good timing. Clear skies so maybe a motor bike ride later.

Brushed the pups.

Pot of ham and beans on for meals this week. Amazing what ya find in the freezer.

Glad we have 2.5 acres and 20 foot set backs for all construction etc... Actually I don't think It would be a problem here.

Have had a herd of Antelope hanging out near the house this week.

I don’t know what is up but I seem to be tired all the time. I think I need a vacation or to retire.

Very touching to watch the D-Day ceramony. Hope to visit the beaches next year, I feel it will be very moving.

I'm off to Louisville today for continuing education. With any luck I'll have a job for a while longer, in this new world we find ourselves in one never knows. I talked to an old friend from my running days and she said her hubby who was the plant manager of a factor was unemployeed because they had closed his plant. It made nuts and bolts for the auto industry.

We do have the advantage of our healthy lifestyles giving us benefits during this time of national crisis. We are healthier than the general population and we have a way to release stress. We also have the benefit of contact with wonderful people to share with, so many people go into a social shell during hard times and that can easily lead to depression.

I'm on day 4 of my Buff Bear Project and it's going well. My pants are feeling looser already and the body fat reading on my scale has gone down a percent already.

Everyone have an awesome day and stay out of trouble.

Good morning!

I didn't get my walking in this weekend as planned. My ankle is much better, so I will see how it goes on my next walking day. I don't want to stress it too soon and make matters worse!

We went to see the musical drama "Texas" in the ampitheater in Palo duro Canyon. They have produced the drama for 44 years. We were there for opening night. It's really fun and staged very, very well. They use the canyon wall as well as the stage during the production. It makes for a whole lot of stage, great for the fireworks and the prarie fire scene! They use real fire and actually set one of the folks aflame. :scared1: Outstanding production and I highly recommend it. Y'all get out this way and we'll all go! :rotfl:

Hi y'all.

I wish I had something inspiring to say but right now I just feel overwhelmed. I have soooo much to catch up on with house work, yard work, painting the new storage building, moving the rest of the stuff into it and generally trying to reclaim the house. I want really bad to get some time the next 2 days to write a bit. I have a writer friend that goes to a bed and breakfast in New Orleans and stays till he gets a book finished. He lives in New York but goes there so he can do nothing but write and walk without distractions, I wish I had that kind of option.

Denise writing to me is like touching cloth to you. It keeps me positive and helps me organize my thoughts.

Scott, I wanna come and drink with you at the Tiki bar. That would be so nice swapping stories with you.

Eva that is wonderful about the job, you are a sweet lady and anywhere would be glad to have you around.

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to let you know I'm still around. I'm working at a summer school/summer program and thus have limited internet access so I may not check in much.

Since I last checked in I've run a total of 12 miles (3 x 4 miles) and about 100 minutes (2 x 34, 1 x 32).

Hope everyone's doing alright!

I'll catch up later.

Best,
Jennifer

:stitch:'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

This one is JenG's very good question to the cousins, excerpted, about the difference between building a base and training for a race. The mixer starts here (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=32176694&postcount=989) on the 'Ohana thread.

What is the difference between maintaining or building a base and training for a race? I've only been running for a year and I've either been taking time off running or training for a race. What is just building a base?

How is your approach (mental or otherwise) and exercise routine different when building your base versus training? Do you run less? Do different exercises? Approach the run differently psychologically?

Good morning Team,

To HK members who are struggling with life circustances, :grouphug: Please remember to take care of yourselves. You can't help anyone else if you are in good fighting form!

:hug:Margie.

Funny thing about chores, Dave. They don't run off, they wait patiently. Priortize and DELEGATE!!! Enlist the help of those who are recieving the benefit!

Jen, good luck with the summer program!

Eva- Great news on the job!

Scott- Make a great day! I am thinking of you and Lynn

I am doing Pilates this morning and some weight training. I worry about my shoulder, but it's a habit rather than a necessity, I have to get over that!

Morning everyone! Hope everyone had a great weekend! DF bought a smoker and we tried it out yesterday. The instructions it came with weren't entirely clear and I think we ended up using too much wood. Needless to say everything ended up smelling smokey - I told him it reminded me of the part in Spaceship Earth where Rome is burning down :)

Scott - Up has a couple of sad parts. One is right in the beginning so bring tissues! I heard a lot of people sniffling in the theatre.

Margie - Hope DD is better!

Connie - How's the ankle?

Lynn - Sounds like you're having a great time in CA!

Sue - Are your kitchen renos done?

Dave - Congrats! It sounds like you're losing inches already! I need to get my guy on your Buff Bear plan.

Okay, that's all for now! Have a great day everyone!

Morning everyone!

I'm back from a girls only trip with my sister to Branson. Did manage to make it to the fitness center at the resort twice while we were there. Took a hike at a nearby state park one day too.

Guess the vacation was good for me. My knees are feeling better now than they have in a long time. So good in fact that I forgot about the appointment I had with my chiropractor this morning! Can't get in again until July 6 now,:scared1: so I hope I keep on feeling good!

Helped my DH and her hubby move over the weekend. Came home yesterday afternoon and took a 2 hour nap. Ready to get back to my regular life now. Have a great day everyone!

Well I'm seeing daylight. I was able to get the yard mowed yesterday before it got to dark and I've got about 95% of the stuff moved to the storage building. Erica is taking a kick back and rest day today, I don't mind since she just got of her 4th 12 hr shift in a row. She is working extra to help with expences since my store has cut our hours.

I'm taking a break and doing the laundry, then I'll get back to moving and cleaning.

My "Buff Bear Project" workout was a brisk 5 mile training walk, pilaties, stretching and a good core workout. I didn't lift any weight since I was moving stuff and that is like light weight workout.

Vicky, your squeeze is more than welcome to join us here or to go to our train our prince and princess thread on DR, to get training motivation and help.

Mommy Connie we will be good.

Good Morning Team!

I can't find the sleepy smilie. We had a t-storm with heavy rain overnight & it disrupted my peaceful sleep. I think it will be a 2 tea morning.

Spring concert tonight at DD's school so I will be on the TM today at lunch. I'm on week 3 of training for my end of Sept. marathon.

Dave, I hear you on being overwhelmed. A 2 day weekend is not long enough. I started off by saying if I just had a day to "tidy up & get things done" turned into if I just had a week & now I'm up to if I just had a month. But I won't sacrifice training in order to get the little things done. Cleaning can wait another week.;) I received an iPod gift card for Christmas. Have been wanting to update my running music since then. Finally started on Sunday, 5+ months later.

Vicky, Kitchen is not done. One of the cabinets shipped damaged. This needs to be replaced before the countertop is installed. Fridge, dw & wall-oven are in just waiting for the cooktop. Almost there.

Almost forgot the most important info. We are booked for Jan. at AKV. Now the search begins for affordable flights.

Have a great day..........Sue

Good morning Friends!

I guess I get to be the first poster, today!! I wonder....is that a good thing? Are you all still with me??

My plans were derailed yesterday. I got lots of exercise, but none of the intentional kind. Do any of you other ladies have a problem with working out in front of your hubbies?

Margie

Lynn

We have some members who have fallen off the grid, so-to-speak. Jack, Jesters, Jpfamilymom, and Katwalks. Tracey is trying to put all the reporting in one place for contrasting and comparing....I wonder how we will do??

I have not fallen off the board...completely! :rolleyes1

Just trying to get by and get out of this office!! My first day in the new position in July 1st. And time can't go fast enough!!

Got out there and did 3 miles before work this morning...it was hot and humid and I loved it! It's nice to be able to work up a sweat! Jordan hurt his back playing paintball over the weekend so he didn't join me this morning. He claims he'll get out there tomorrow though. We just have to make sure we get up early to get to the gym since it's supposed to be raining. Speaking of rain...I bought a "white noise" machine. It has sound settings though and we have been using the one that sounds like crickets. It reminds me of the Wilderness Lodge!! :goodvibes

Dave - I too have been overwhelmed as of late. We need a nice long vaca to help us get through! I love that story about the writer friend of yours...New orleans seems like such a great place to get creative!

Sue - I loooove a good thunderstorm to sleep to. The only thing that wakes me up is my big baby of a dog. He usually shakes like a leaf and gets right on top of me. 100 lb plus lap dog!

Vicky - Thats one of my favorite parts of any ride...the Rome smoke smell in Spaceship Earth. I love listening to Utilidors at work..when they play that track and that part comes up, I always think of that smell!!

Connie - Happy Anniversary!!! :flower3

To the rest of Hakuna Hatata...I wish I could get in here more. Hopefully with this new job I'll be able to!! I miss you guys...hope all is well!! :grouphug:

First of all :welcome: SunshineMinnie.

Got out the door shortly after 6:00 a.m for a walk/run. I've started doing C25K to try to increase my amount of running time. I am now on week 3. Did a total of about 2 miles. However, 9 hours later, I'm really tired and now I think I know why. Last night my cat kept trying to sleep on my pillow! I think it's because DH is out of town and he thinks he needs to be "the man of the house!"

Time to go put the groceries away. Later!

I am heading towards home tomorrow, I have to drive 4 hours to get to San Jose, where I am flying out of early Thurs morning. I will leave here by noon so I can get the rental car back by 5pm. Then will take the shuttle from hotel to airport at 4:30 the next morning.

I think summer may finally be here! It is starting to get warm. We were in the 90's yesterday! I am about to get out the door for a quick 3 mile walk. I have had to do some soul searching and some re-thinking and some re-planning to get myself going again. This is my first workout since I hurt my ankle, but that seems to be fine now. Now, if I can just stay healthy until I get HOME from the Goofy!

Bunny- A lot of smoke, but how was the meal? Cooking with fire good, (it's a guy thing...)

MaryJ- keep me posted on the C25k thing, I was wondering if that would work for me as well. Got a 5k in Aug. and I know I can do it just want to get a little quicker. Good Luck.

Denise- I know the pain of nosey neighbors. we recently had our farm surveyed, there were marks along the road. This old B who has nothing better to do than roam the road causing trouble for others was caught looking around our property. I escorted him off. then I painted with the orange paint " 1 - 4" with an arrow on one side of the road and "5-17" with an arrow going the other way. Leading him to think we're cutting up for house lots... That'll frost his cookies and give him something &$%^ about :goodvibes.

Good morning everyone! I dragged myself out for a leisurely (slow) 3 miler last night. It was cool last night so quite nice for running. I almost forgot that I've got my 5K race this Saturday. I guess I should be getting out for a couple of runs before then :)

I booked my hotels for January this morning. We're doing a split stay between Pop and Poly. I wish we could have done Poly the whole time but I have no idea what January will be like (job/economy) so I'll do a split and if there are deals, I'll switch back.

Sunshine Minnie - :welcome: Are you doing the 1/2 or the full at Disney in 2010?

Jack - We made smoked chicken and it ended up tasting like ham  I think it was all the smoke. But it was really good - I actually liked it more the next day. Since it was our first time using the smoker, we had a little bit of trouble keeping everything hot. Getting the charcoal going was a challenge since we're use to using a propane BBQ!

Connie - Congrats on your 14 year anniversary!!

Lynn - Safe travels!

Eva - You know the other Disney smell I wish I could duplicate is the apple pie from Mickey's Philharmagic :cloud9: Hey, I need a white noise machine too! It's still cool in Toronto so I sometimes keep my window open at night. I had no idea that birds get up at 3AM! :headache: I hope Jordan feels better soon!

Sue - I'm on the lookout for January flights too. I remember Air Canada had a sale last October for January dates. I was sort of hoping they'd release a sale on those dates earlier. A couple of weeks ago they had a sale on flights until December 17th or something like that. Are you flying out of Pearson?

Mary - Glad to hear your knees are feeling better! Good for you for going to the gym while on vacation :worship: It's something I can never seem to manage.

Margie - How's DD doing?

Dave - DF set a weight loss goal of about 15 pounds by his birthday next month. I'm trying to get him to exercise more and eat better but it's hard because I don't see him all the time.

Jennifer - Are you getting settled in? Does school start in September or do classes go year round?

Okay, that's all for me! Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Theme of the day: Double Nickel!

Haven’t been around much. Busy at home and nights have been filled with things to do. I have those kinds of weeks now and then. We have a new furnace going in so that’s a big expense that we have put off for years!

Our old furnace is 55 years old so it’s time for a new and more efficient one!

I have flown westjet just in April and found the service awesome but the planes are smaller then southwest or the air canada planes. I flew AC for the princess marathon in March and actually didn't like them as much as the other 2 I mentioned. Everything was great but the crew was very "stuffy". I have always been a "sports" person, but pretty much an antirunner. Hated running..... I just saw a marathoning bumper sticker the other day that said it all "My sport is your sport's punishment!". I had to laugh because it was so true! I could play sports for hours and hours, but get me to run just to run? Anything more than a minute was pure torture!:scared:

Than along comes kids and life and work and not so much me time anymore. I have managed to stay on a volleyball team, but once a week doesn't really do it. I didn't have to work to hard a staying in shape because I was a portrait photographer, moving props, stepping up on platforms, changing sets, running around, I really never sat. I also had little kids so ran after them all day too.

Then one day, a photographer that worked for me, decided to walk a trail half marathon in Colorado. She loved it. Hmmmmmm, walking is fun.... maybe I'll try too!

So, several months later I gather up a bunch of fun ladies and headed for my first small half marathon. And as they say, got bitten by the bug! How fun! What a feel good day with everyone cheering and being so supportive, and I was just walking! The race was an out and back so we turned before the full marathoners. A few miles from the finish, a full marathoner came flying by us, smiled really big and said "way to go ladies!" Cracked me up, here he is running twice as far and finishing way before us, and he was cheering us on!

I decided I liked this well enough and signed up for my first full marathon!

We finally got rid of all those storms! Though it sounds like the just moved on to everyone else's area. :(

I had a group run this morning (to make up for yesterday's missed run) and it was the first time to use my Garmin. I loved it!!! I can't wait to get out on my runs and see the true distance and head off in a new direction from my house!

Gearing up for my longest personal distance yet on Sunday...5 miles! Yikes!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hi team

Weather was still looking iffy this morning, so I headed to the gym. Worked with PT for half an hour doing upper body workout, then hit the TM. Gotta say it felt really good!

SunshineMinnie...when I did the half marathon in Indy in May, my original plan was to just walk it, since I had done the WDW half doing a walk/run. I couldn't do it! It was just impossible for me to only walk! And I was never a runner, just like you. In fact, when I was in my 20's, I thought I might give it a try since my neighbor kept singing its praises (her hubby went to college on a track scholarship). My first thought was..."Why would ANYONE want to do this?" Fast forward 20+ years and here I am actually trying to build up my running time! And now, walking makes my back hurt. Go figure! So, I guess what I'm saying is "Never say never!"

Hey team!!!!

Good morning. Didn't have a good night.....watching the hockey game with friends so a few wings, and a few smirnoff ice....well lets just say I will be working this off today.

Weather has finally turned nice here so will be getting out for a long walk tonight. I must prefer to do them on Sat nights so it keeps my Sunday as a full rest day.

Have a great day all.

So.... I walked/ran my first Marathon. Although I hit the wall at mile 21, I managed to push through it and finished my first marathon. Woo Hoo! What a great day. Now I feel like I can do ANYTHING! My folks and kids and DH were so proud. Me too!

Another half marathon in the pouring rain which was actually pretty fun and.... fast forward to last year....

I decided that I wanted to attempt Goofy!

So I got myself a pair of red running shoes (I had just lost my dad and that was his favorite color and I wanted him to know he'd be running along with me.:goodvibes) I decided that I was going to train as perfectly as I could. I'd run/walk the race. So, things were going awesome, feeling good, training good and then, WHAM!

Driving home from my DD's volleyball game, the hearing in my right ear just vanished. Gone, poof. Within a few days, I start getting really sick with vertigo and still can't hear at all. I ended up with Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SHL) which I had never even heard of before. Basically, just lost my hearing forever in that ear. But the frustrating part was that I was so sick with vertigo, I couldn't stand, let alone run for quite a while, smack dab in the middle of my Goofy training. Lost six weeks of running and working out.

But I really, really wanted to run Goofy. Against everyone's advice, I jumped back in to training. Too much, too soon and you guessed it... gave myself an overuse injury.:guilty: Yep, everyone was right.

Minnie most of your team mates on here are walkers. We are the new generation of loud and proud walkers that are taking our rightful place along side our running brothers and sisters. Most of us are walkers by fate, we are overcoming a road block to being runners, this road block is any where from a cronic injury to carrying a little extra fluff. The mentality used to be that walkers were injured runners and waiting to heal so they could run again. But now there is in addition walkers who train to be stronger walkers. So if you can't be a runner anymore you will have lots of powerful company.

I had a strong 5 mile training walk this morning on my hill route, pace was 12:42 mpm and the hills made it challanging. Then a good stretching routine.

Kimmer, wings and drinks with a Canadian princess, life is indeed good.

Everyone have an awesome weekend.

FOg and Rain this morn. went to town, groceries and PO, cleared off and I got out for a 5K, Wind is picking up, Lynn is going to go out for a pup walk.

Spagetti sauce is cooking and I need some breakfast the coffee is not enough right now/ make a breakfast buritto.

SSM (short for sunshine minnie) I am a slow runner, 10:30 mile pace, but what Dave says is true, these walkers can put me to shame, I am just glad to be able to get out there.

I was thinking about a kayak paddle today but the wind and clouds are closing in.

Later haev a good one.

Oh we have two birds nests in the Spruce trees in the back yard. One is a robin nest two eggs, and the other is a Casian Finch, two eggs there.

Hey everyone! Just popping in quickly - ran my 5K race this morning. It was nice and cool but warm in the sun. The race was on a closed runway at the airport and they had parked a couple of planes nearby. It was really cool to watch the planes taking off and landing and they also used a jet to start off the race - that was really loud! The course was a loop and flat (of course). I was doing pretty well then I get a stitch at 2.5 miles :sad2: so I ended up walking to try and get rid of it. I guess no race is ever perfect. Never did manage to get it to go away completely but I did finish in 29:59 which was my goal (under 30 minutes) so I'm happy. :goodvibes Definitely better than my 1st 5K last year which I did in 33:02. Went to Starbucks for breakfast sandwiches after - yummy!

Will check back in later! Have a great day everyone!!

Up and at it at 6:30, a beauty of a day here in NH. Did our 5 mile route. We have a new trail in the city that is being developed. We can now walk the route across town all on paved surfaces, over the river and through the woods. Mark and I may check it out tomorrow. Today I have too much planned.

We have a baby shower to get ready for and many quilts to make before July 26th.

Hope all of you are working hard, taking care of your bodies and enjoying your day.

A little voice nudged me in my dreams to wake up and work out. Not sure if it was a Panda or Jimminy Cricket but something got me out of bed early.

Hi everyone,

Just popping in on my weekend break.

I'm hitting my goal of maintaining 25 miles a week without too much trouble.

I'll pop back in later, but probably not until next weekend.

Thursday I did 4 miles in 30 and today I did 3 in 23.

Vicky, Those side stitches are tough, but way to push through!

Thanks for the words of encouragement everyone!:goodvibes

So here is the rest of the long, long story...... (sorry it has been a novel. I promise I won't usually be this long winded!)

I guess that I am pretty stubborn (or don't have a brain in my head) and decided to continue to train as best as I could and run/walk Goofy anyhow. So train, hurt, swell, ice, train, hurt, swell and ice then finally go and get my knee checked. Had an MRI and I was not as bad as the doc thought, just some deep bone bruises. Yep, they hurt! But I could still run/walk.

So my buddy and I flew to Orlando, rented a convertible, threw the top down and off to the DW marathon. WOO HOO!

We had such a great time! We went to 4 parks in 4 days, I ran both the half and the full and she joined me for the full. Despite my hurt knee and the heat on marathon day, I had the best time ever! We couldn't really walk too well after the marathon, but weren't going to miss the last day at the World. So off to Epcot to show off our bling!

Even with all of the setbacks and not being able to train the way I wanted to, it was such a great experience. I wouldn't trade it for anything!

So here is what lead me to a WISH team -
After I got back, it took forever for my knee to heal. About three months. I sat around, did nothing, felt like a slug and now I'm paying for it. I went from a very physical job to being retired and nothing... training for Goofy to nothing...I became so unmotivated to do anything and have been feeling so lousy. So I thought that it would be great to join a group and hold myself accountable. My motto for me and my family this summer is "move more, snack less". So far so good.

I'm happy to have somewhere to post my minutes and miles. You all seem like a pretty active group. I am very happy to be part of your team!

Thanks again for the warm welcomes. Hope I didn't bore anyone to death with my super long story!

Have a great weekend all!

Happy Weekend everyone~ Up early at 0530 to pick up DS from his after graduation party. They went over to the Sub Base for an all nighter. Paintball, Bowling, Dancing:woohoo:, a little poker game, Food and just kinda say goodbye to High school days....
Graduation was inside due to rain clouds that never opened up but thats OK it was cool inside. The time flies by... seems like yesterday we were at WDW and he was sword fighting with Capt Hook....pirate:
Cut the grass today, with so much rain you can almost hear it growing. Hit a few golf balls, and kinda hung out around the yard. Big Snapper Turtles are back, HUGE like 25 pounders, must be real old. They come out of the swamps to lay eggs in gravel bank. They look like they're from the dinosaur age, have to keep the dogs away.
Well thats my day in a nut shell. Hope everyone is well, and those in need of healing are on the mend. :wizard:

Clouds are rolling in so more rain on the way…..Tornado watch in effect till 9:00. We live close to the weather siren so will know if it goes off.

Everyone having bad weather - be careful!! We've had two nights this week with tornado watches and warnings - some scary weather rolled through here this week.

Today was an easy "workout" day for me. I basically walked ALL over the zoo! I did a little bit of running in there, but that was mostly chasing my 2 yr old! :)

I'll be getting up at the crack of dawn tomorrow (yeah, that would be 5:15 a.m.) to run 5 miles. It will be my longest distance yet. I'm a little excited and a bit nervous. I was encouraged on Friday by the fact that I did my 3 miles at a slightly faster pace than normal. So, if we stick to our group pace, I should be fine. I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow!

Wish me luck!

Jack - Another Wonderful Achievement in the life of a Parent...Congratulations! :goodvibes

Jennifer - 10K and you are NOT already training for a Half Marathon?? :lol Good job!!

Vicky - Great race!

I did my 5 mile run this morning. It was actually easier than I expected. I was so pleasantly surprised!! Bring on 6 miles next weekend! I do think the Texas heat is going to slow us down some in the coming weeks, but it's the distance that matters!

It was a good weekend, we did get a lot done, and had a lot of fun also! Weather has been good during the day, it clouds up late afternoon - never rained yesterday, but looks like it might rain any minute here, and we are still in a tornado watch area for the evening.

Connie, I will get you our totals for the last 2 weeks here shortly - I have to add them up!

Busy weekend! We had the grandkids and went to the lake. They loved the Bubba tube and playing in the water with their dear sweet grand parents! They even caught fish! And I got stiff and sore! LOL

We bought paving stones for a patio out back. It will be fun after we are done, but in the mean time...not so much really.

Jennifer, great job!

Scott and Lynn- You planning to kayak the Arkansas? :scared1: When I was a kid we were watching kayak racers running down the river outside Canon City, CO. One of the kayaks tipped over and out came a white duck! It was the pet of one of the racers!

Margie - Missing you!

Yes Denise Happy Birthday. Miranda does good work.

I had a sore achillies last night after the 5 miles on the hills and then pushing the mower for 2 hours. But this morning it feels fine. When you have scar tissue in your achillies like I do you have to keep it broke up and pushing the mower is great for that. By the end of summer it will be feeling really good.

Kimmer if your pain in at the bottom of your heel and extending to the arch that is probably PF and not your achillies, the stretching, tennis ball rolling and the ice bottle will help a lot.

I'm off to the gym for a 5 mile training walk and then pool fun since the humidity is off the charts.

Vicky this is southern Kentucky all the houses have big yards. One of the advantages of living in the south. There are more people in Toronto than there are in my whole state.

Kimmer, ok game plan here. Tonight when you get home get in your hot tub and let the jet of water play up and down your foot like a massage action, do that as long as you want to. Do both feet and also let the jet massage your calves and ITbands, (sides of your thighs). Then stretch your calves good while you are in the hot water. When you get out get a big bottle of water and go sit down place your foot on an ice pack or bag of frozen veggies. Do 10 min on and 10 min off then another 10 min. Drink your water and before you get up work your foot up and down and back and forth to loosen it up. Don't just up right after the ice while your foot is cold and tight. Then stay off your foot as much as possible for the rest of the evening.

It was raining today so I did a good hour and a half of pool fun.

Happy Panda:hippie:

Dave - Yeah, nobody in the city has a really big yard - unless they have a really big bank account. You have to head outside of the city to get houses with big yards. Do you have a riding mower?

Kim - Yup, we're doing the 1/2. I'm shooting for the full in 2011. I thought I would have been ready by now but I'm still getting comfortable with the 1/2 distance.

Yes I have a riding mower but the last 2 years I've been using a push mower to get in an extra workout. When you put together a hard workout then a 2 hour mower workut you have a good long training day without having to do the miles, it's the eqivilent of a 16 mile workout.

I've started combine workouts and chores like that to prolong the training effect. 5 miles and then doing the marketing and then the floors makes another good long workout.

Hi everyone! Did a relaxed 3 miler last night - felt a little tickle in my lower back last night. I think it's from doing deadlifts in the gym on Monday night. My PT did warn me that I might feel a little fatigued or sore afterward.

This morning, I put on a skirt that I had bought a couple of weeks ago and it feels little loose. So I guess it's going back to the store tonight. Unfortunately, it left me scrambling a little bit because a lot of my stuff was still in the laundry and hadn't been ironed yet.

Scott - Good luck with the tests! Camping sounds like fun! I hope the weather cooperates for you and Lynn :)

Jack - I laughed when I read your post! But that is a really fast time!

Sue - I find the scheduling a bit tricky too and I don't even do as many miles as you. I'm always impressed you can fit all the running and cross training. I started waking up "early" to do yoga or will do a little bit as a cool down after running.

Good Morning Team!

I see that my post of yesterday did not make it - I got the "you have successfully posted" message, but then the system thru me out, so I never got to check to see if it really did post - I now see that it didn't. Of course, I cannot remember what I posted so here goes -

Happy belated Birthday Denise, nice cake.

Knee is still bothering me, but I did not get my weight routine in while I was in CA, so I have just started that again. I did get one in on Monday, and will get one in later today. I have been getting in my 3 mile walks daily. I am now walking before breakfast, which is always more difficult for me, but it beats the heat.

Connie - take care of that ankle!

Have a great day all!

Good morning y'all.

I had a nice hot humid training walk this morning, it was strong and about 5 to 6 miles. Time was 1:06 and change but didn't clock the distance. The heat is on us with a vengence from now till about the end of Sept.

Lynn I hope you knee starts feeling better. You have had enough fun with that.

Connie how is the ankle?

Have an awesome day y'all.

Hi all!

Just got back from a 3 day trip with six of my girlfriends. This is the fourth year that we have done this. We all enjoy knitting as a hobbyl, so we rent a cabin at a local park and have our very own "knit camp." We knit, eat, and laugh for the entire time! Four of us did get out yesterday for a one mile hike and it was great!

It was really hot here by the time I got home, so I think my run will have to wait until tomorrow. However, I am happy to report that I picked the first zuchinni and yellow squash of the season from my garden this afternoon! Yum!!:)

Sounds like our quilt retreat. Last retreat I missed because it was the same weekend as the WDW marathon. I'm not doing it in 2010 so I can park my butt in a cabin in the dead of winter and quilt for 4 days. So much fun, we're about 50 girls, with machines all set up, it looks like a sweat shop but it's a great time.

On another note, Mark and I went out for 5 tonight. My upper body is hurting but popped two tylenol to ease the pain and off we went. A nice night with a slight breeze . We're expecting a week of rain so I may have to do some FIT-TV on demand to keep up my routines.

Off to make some pretty quilts for the new princess arriving in about 10 weeks!

Hi everyone!

Woo Hoo! After struggling with what to do, I finally made a decision and signed up for the DL half marathon! I am so excited. After running the Goofy in January, I became obsessed with earning the Coast to Coast medal. :cool1:

So after a couple of months of debating with myself, the kids finally said, "Jeeze mom, just go already!" So I signed up. Can't wait! Anyone else going?

I haven't reported any times or miles yet. Not really sure how to report golfing? We out there for two hours for nine holes. We walk, but it's pretty tame. Do I count it?

So far this summer, kids and I have been golfing, boxing. I have been run/walking and playing sand volleyball. (lost all 3 games last night. All of them by 2 points! Arrggg. )

I hope that everyone is having a fun summer. Looking forward to getting to know all of you!

Jill - Scott and I will be at DL half. We should set up a place to meet. We do not have park tickets, so will just be hanging around downtown disney area. We are staying at Paradise Pier this time. The "coast to coast" medal is really cool - sorry Scott - kewl

Dave - I would like to get this knee problem over with also! It has now been since January! I have another appt with Orthopod the beginning of next month. I was really hoping the cortisone shot would help, but it did nothing.

Kim - glad to hear the heel is doing better, have a good walk.

Another rainy and windy day ... Isn't it suppose to be summer? Planning to hit the gym tonight for a 1/2 hour with my PT. DF has plans to make ribs for dinner. Normally I'm all for ribs but I weigh in tomorrow so I'll have to be careful not to over eat.

Sue - Yeah, work gets in the way of everything fun.

Jill - The DL 1/2 sounds like fun! I wish I could have gone for the Coast to Coast medal but it wasn't in the budget for this year.

Kim - Hope your heel heals quickly (sorry I couldn't resist)!!

Mary - I'm all thumbs but the knitting trip sounds like fun! A great way to spend time with your girlfriends! What did you end up knitting?

Connie - How's your ankle feeling?

Every year we try to pick a theme that we can all work on together. This year some of us (me included) decided that we would like to learn how to crochet. So I worked on crocheting a dish cloth and a baby hat. Unfortunately, all that wrist action has left me with a very sore wrist (think writer's cramp that won't go away.) Tried Advil and Aleve....nada. I think the prescription here is just tincture of time. With time and rest it will get better.

I once took and an extra shift at work at a residental school, played housemother for the night - so I had to stay up all night (that was long before I did the night shift on a regular basis) - so I took my crocheting, and crocheted all night to keep myself awake - I ended up with a ligiment sprain in my wrist that took a year of high doses of arthritic asprin and numerous shots of cortisone to heal! pixiedust: that your pain goes away quickly!

The dogs and I got in 5 miles this morning, the middle 2 miles were actually comfortable! Still very slow pace!

We are taking the camper out this weekend, for the first time in 3 years! That should be fun - the dogs will love it - they love have almost undivided attention:lmao:

Vicky-We are a coastal town and every year my agency has to ramp up for the hurricane season. We meet with State Gov., National Guard, Weather officials and NOHA to see what the current thinking is on how many Named storms we'll be in for. They explain the three month and six month forecast. We do pre-planning, evacuation, debris management, relocation, and restoration. The State and my Town have plans in place but each year we need to update evac routes, contact numbers, changes in shelter locations ect. We get information out to our citizens so they can have evac plans, family contact info and sheltering supplies. I'm thinking of getting on the Twitter thing for the department, it will allow us to give timely info quicker than radio or tv. Many of our shoreline residents live out-of state they head back to their primary homes so that helps. It's been 50 years since we "Had the Big One" so many of the old timers feel we're due. We do not have town water, everyone has a well so when the power goes so does your water. Many of us do have generators though. I've been through two minor ones and that's bad enough, I don't want a big one :scared1:

Hi all,

Just had a great day. Took 8 girls out for an hour and a half of sand volleyball. They loved it and are really pretty good. I got to play for awhile since one kid was late. Bummed when she showed up. Playing is always more fun that watching!

This afternoon, kids and I had boxing. It is the most fun and intense workout. They changed it up so much that the hour flies by. One of my favorite cross trainings. Love the heavy bag. Grrr.

Jack - how close do you get to predicting how many storms you will have? That's kind of cool.

Lynn - we have been thinking about getting a camper. We love to camp but tent camping is hard on my DH with bad back. I'm jealous. I have such great memories of our pop up trailer when I was a kid. Too fun!

Have a great weekend all. I get to sit on my rear all day and watch basketball. We have a long break on Saturday so I'm hoping to maybe get a little golf in. Off to check local courses.

Hi everyone,

First week of actual training for my next half is going pretty well.

I've done 2- 3milers, 1- 5 x hill workout, and 1- 35 minute tempo all at sub 7:45 pace. My new group of friends are really into me being "good" and are definitely more encouraging. I'm now thinking after my next half I may look into getting some actual coaching to see what my true potential is.

Check in with you all later.

Hi everyone! It's been a crazy week, with not much time for Internet/DIS. We had my son's swimming lessons every night this week, which made us late to dinner/bath/bedtime every night for the 2nd week in a row. It started to wear on me by the end of the week, so I was going to bed very early!

I hope everyone had a good end of the week, and that your weekend is off to a great start!

I did my normal training routine on Tuesday (3 miles) and Wednesday (2 easy miles). I got in a gym workout one night...worked on some core strengthening. Thursday morning was the killer though! :lol We did 4 miles of hills!! Oh WOW!! That was hard! It was my first real hill workout and boy was it a workout! I'm glad we don't do that again for a little while!

Yesterday was my rest day, and today will be an easy day. I'm gearing up mentally for our 6 mile run tomorrow morning! Wish me luck!

Vicky - I wish I could get a massage...it sounds divine right now!

Have a great weekend, everyone! I'll try to check in tomorrow, when I have more time to read/respond.

Hi y'all.

The heat and humidity is here today in full effect, but that's ok because I'm in my element when it's blistery hot. I have my best PRs on really hot humid days. Although I do enjoy some laps in the pool after a workout in the heat.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads on our team! :goodvibes Hope you guys are having an extra special day :)

I woke up late this morning and didn't get out for my run until after 11AM. It was humid! I was able to manage a decent pace but I think I could have hydrated a lot better. My "sweatproof" sunscreen totally didn't last. I came home and noticed it was melting off :headache: I didn't burn but I didn't feel very good about it either. Went over to DF's house to have a Father's Day lunch. He BBQ'd ribs and Wagyu beef steaks - yummy!! He made a few for me that were dry rub without any sugar.

Has anyone here checked out the One Hundred Pushups site (http://hundredpushups.com/test.html)? A coworker told me about it so I'm going to give it a try. I did the initial test last night and managed 30 before my arms gave out. Although .. DF said I wasn't doing them properly - I said the same thing about his pushups too.

Dave - I'm loving the heat too but more so just to sit out on the patio and look cute! That's pretty cool that you're able to PR in the hot weather! I wish I had a pool or a friend with a pool :goodvibes

Jennifer - Do you get out first thing in the morning to run or later in the evening? Great pace for both of your runs! I can only imagine what will happen once you get a running coach! Keep us posted on that!

Margie - No races in the near future. I'm mailing in a registration for a 15K race at the end of August. I think Kim, Mike and DS are signed up for that one.

Teresa - The massage was too short. I opted for a 30 minute and at the end I was wishing it were longer. Good job on the hill workout! Those are definitely not my favourite! How did your 6 miler go?

Jack - The hurricane briefing sounds very comprehensive but I guess they have to be when you're dealing with so many people. Are evacuations always forced - as in you have to leave? Just curious - weather wise, Toronto is pretty boring ...

Scott - I get the cracking sound too in my legs. My PT mentioned that those sounds aren't a big deal as long as they don't hurt. I just always feel funny about them because I get people looking over at me. Good job on your PT test!! Hope you and Lynn have a blast on your camping trip this weekend!!

Sue/Kim - How's the Goofy training coming along?

It's a beautiful Tuesday morning!

Had an action packed weekend away. We went to a country inn & spa for a friend's birthday celebration. WOW! While we were there DH & I got out for a beautiful Sunday morning run over gentle rolling hill farmland. What a nice treat from concrete & asphalt. Would have loved more time here to enjoy the spa, pool etc.

Kim, Saw your other thread about stressing out over goofy. Take a deep breath & relax. There are many weeks of training still to come. I'm the queen of race anxiety!;) Once every couple of weeks when I'm out running I question myself & what have I gotten myself into. My 2 cents is to spend the next couple of months on weight loss, cross training & stretching. Give your heel time to heal so when September starts you are injury free & ready to go.

Hey everyone! No cavities! Hooray! I'm needle-phobic so I'm always happy whenever I go to the dentist and I don't have to get any work done.

I'll be heading to the gym tonight to train with my PT. But other than that, I don't have anything else planned.

Connie - Sorry to hear about your ankle! I hope it heals quickly! The swimming sounds like a good xtraining exercise.

Lynn - It's really hot and humid here as well. Hopefully the rain today will help to cool everything off. How's your knee?

Eva - Congratulations!! You and Jordan must be so excited!! I hope the morning sickness passes quickly for you.

Teresa - Sounds like you're making excellent progress with your running group! I can't remember if I asked, but are you training for any races?

Have a great day everyone!

Eva, congrats,

Stay cool everyone with the heat,

I did get in a 5K this morn, felt good, I am getting more back into the swing, which is good. I am trying not to let work eat me up and get out there of a morn.

Good Afternoon Team!

Hot & humid today. Just had a Tstorm blow through at lunch & the temp has dropped several degrees. Was at the gym & they have the treadmills positioned around the windows. The lighting made for a nice light show while running.

Connie, Pixie dust for your ankle.

Eva, Congrats! You must be sooooo excited.

Have a great day...........Sue

Teresa, I guess we're opposites. I miss my morning runs, but since I'm already getting up at 5; it's just too early.

Did another 3 in under 23 again tonight. I'm working on a tread mill due to summer heat and scheduling issues. I can't wait to get back on the roads in about 3 weeks so I can re-determine actual speed. I'm actually faster on a road then on the treadmill, because I can increase and decrease as necessary.

Yesterday was my off day, but on tuesday I did 5 x 400 with the intervals at a 6:30 mpm pace and the recoveries at an 8:15 mpm pace.

Best,
Jennifer

Good morning Team!!

Congratulations Eva! Sorry about the morning sickness, though. If you are already taking prenatal vitamins, STOP! Take Flintstone vitamins until the morning sickness subsides! That's what the nurse practitioner told my daughter and she had very healthy babies (all over 8lbs) and avoided much of the sickness! ::yes::

Thanks for the PD for my ankle. I have been doing better without the brace the last couple of days, so I am going to give the lake a go on Monday.

You guys are all doing great! Keep up the good work!

Good morning team.

I had a very nice, but hot and humid, training walk this morning. Five miles in 1:01:07, ave pace including the slower first warm up mile, 12:13 mpm. I was good with that.

Eva:hippie:

I think I'm going to do the WDW half for time and then do princess escort for the full. I have a race walker friend from Nashville that is doing it with me. I wonder if Disney would consider a walking catagory for awards in the future?

Have an awesome day y'all.

Morning Kids, yep getting ready for the 5K.

2 hours at office turned into 11 oh well, dreading travel the next two weeks. I do good on running but the eating and sitting gets to me. I am thinking if I can get out a lunch time for sprints or something like that, couldn't hurt.

Have a great day and weekend.

Good morning Scott, good luck at the race, is your lady doing it with you?

I just returned from the gym, a half hour of pool sprints to cap off a good exercise week. I had 25 quality miles and 10 hours of exercise. I'm ramping up for racing season. Next race is Jul 11th, an evening 2 mile walk race, this race usually brings some good walker talent to our town.

Everyone have an awesome day.

Hi all,

So, today is the day to get my rear in gear! I have been so bad about running the past couple of weeks. The DL marathon will be here before I know it and I want to be in the kind of shape to enjoy it!

I've been so full of excuses since it got to be 100+ plus humidity. So, I WILL get up early to run before the heat OR hit the treadmill. NO MORE EXCUSES! Today's the day! WOO HOOO!:cool1:

Scott - nice pace on the 5K! I would love to be under 10:30. :)

Panda - Great mileage and hours. I hope to be joining you soon!

Have a great week everyone. Have a fun 4th! I love that holiday. It's always so much fun!

I know I haven't been around much here or on Facebook but I have been busy with the family - some minor illness for the kids and quality sewing time as I do have quilts to make, and a baby shower to work on.

Managed 5 miles this morning. It was humid, overcast and a slight mist to keep us cool. Mark gave me a - It's raining face - I said go get a hat, we won't melt. So he in is cowboy hat, me in my wish cap and off we went.

Back home for coffee and now to shower and start the day. It sure does feel good to get caught up on projects. Now to continue to walk and lose some chubby's.

Take care all, good luck to all in upcoming races and training.

Good Morning Team!

We had a great day yesterday, it was "Superday" which is like a big fair in our local park. We both did a 5K race first thing, then hung out at the fair until afternoon when friends kids band was playing, and we stayed to listen to them. We helped them pack up the equipment, then came home for steaks. The weather was great the whole day. I did good in the race, average pace of 15:05 - which is much better than I have been able to do in training. The knee was not bad for the race, but the next 8 hours (and about 5 miles) on my feet, standing around a lot of the time did not go well. My knee hurt the rest of the day, all night, and continues to hurt this morning. I did only a short walk with the dogs, and I am now sitting with ice on it.

Hi to all, and have a great day!

Yea! I finally got going. Why, why, why do I ever stop? :confused3 It's so much easier to keep going than start over. When will I ever learn?

Legs were pretty stiff at first but after a couple of miles, felt great to run. Hit the treadmill and am watching the Friends series. I forgot how funny the first years were. Sure makes the time fly! Got 5.25 in. Woo Hoo!

Question? We report our times/miles at the end of the month, right? Do we include warm up/cool down time and miles too?

Next weeks goals: 1. Get to bed at a decent time. 2. Get my run in outside before the day gets crazy. 3. Sit down to eat, don't eat on the fly! 4. Get my water in.

Lynn - Sorry about the knee. I've been there, done that, most of my life. No fun! I hope it gets better soon!:flower3:

Panda - yep, can't wait!

[B]Denise - Hi!

Happy week all!

Hi everyone! Just checking in... it's a rainy day today but I managed to get out for a run. When I went out, the rain slowed to a sprinkle and then as soon I got back inside the heavy showers started up again.

Sue - Safe travels! Enjoy your vacation :wave2: Are you off to DC or Washington state? No plans for Canada Day. It's kind of odd since it's in the middle of the week. It was too difficult to take two days off.

Jack - Love having lunches with the SO on work days. It makes for a really nice break and makes the day go faster :)

Scott - Congrats on the race! That's a fantastic pace :) I wish I were going to DL for the 1/2.

Lynn - pixiedust: for your knee! Standing on my feet all day aggrivates my knees and back too. Congrats on your race as well!

Dave - Any plans/races for the July 4th weekend? Say hi to Erica for me :wave2:

Jill - WTG on the 5.25 miles!! Getting to sleep at a reasonable hour has been on my to do list for sometime now. I think sometimes we (or at least I) try to cram as much as I possibly can into a day. Keep us posted on how it goes! And if you have any bedtime tips for me :)

Margie - How's your DD doing? Any races coming up?

Denise - I like your line about not melting in the rain :)

Connie - pixiedust: for your ankle! Hope it's feeling better today.

Eva - Have you made dining reservations for September yet? My 90 day mark is coming up this week! Yikes!

Kim - How's your heel doing?

Okay, have a great day everyone!!

The mixer starts here (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=32479517&postcount=1077) on the 'Ohana thread.

:stitch:'Ohana Monday Mixer:stitch:

Ah, it's summer. The 4th of July is right around the corner. Summer always strikes me as the time for family vacations and road trips. And I'm sure many of us who are traveling are either participating in races--and :worship: to those of you doing events in the summer heat--or we're continuing to train. So...these random thoughts made me think about the challenges of traveling for WISHers, whether traveling to an event or for other reasons.

This week's mixer asks you to share your best tips and strategies for traveling. We're interested in all things related to staying active on the road, from packing your gear to what kind of exercise you prioritize while squeezed for time and in unfamiliar territory.

A sampling of possible questions: What are the must-brings? How much to pack? How to pack your gear--tips and mistakes to avoid? How to best deal with bulky shoes and stinky clothes? What kind of XT do you do while away from home--do you have anything you bring with you?? What about your guidelines for running/walking in areas with which you're unfamiliar?

I'll probably ask a race-specific traveling question closer to January, but tips on race packing are always appreciated. And those of you who are on the road frequently, for business or pleasure, your expertise is much appreciated. :thumbsup2

Well I'm not as sore as I thought I'd be. :cool1: Finally got a run in. Yea! And then headed to the lake for the day. We got a new kneeboard and although my knee is a bad one, I just couldn't let the kids have all of the fun, so I went kneeboarding for the first time! It was SO MUCH FUN! I even managed to pull off a 180, which was pretty funny. The first time I managed to get myself backwards and grab the rope handle, I thought "okay, now what do I do?" panicked and crashed!

So, my knee is a little sore, arms too, but all was worth it because it was an awesome day. Going to switch my training run to tomorrow because I have boxing today. Have a great week all!

Hockeychic - Aren't tapes great! I always like it when I find a good one!

Funwalker - It finally cooled off here. Hope the same for Michigan!

Denise - gotta love the rain!

Bunnyfoo - does midnight count as a reasonable hour? Okay, my week officially starts on Monday! So, I'll try tonight!

Still feeling sick...although I have found that cold foods stay down better. I have made green salads, pasta salads and spinach dip. Anything cold and not too acidic. I'm just hoping this goes away in week 12 like people say. I know some women have it for the full 9 months! It'll all be worth it in the end though!

Question...we are trying to figure out what we will be for MNSSHP and all of our original ideas are scrapped because I'm going to be about 21 weeks along my then. So I had the idea of going as Juno and Bleeker (from the movie Juno). I told my friend at work that used to work at Disney and she said that is very inappropriate for that atmosphere. I thought it was cute! So...just wondering what your guys thoughts are?

Vicky - We have booked Narcoossee's, Boma and Tutto Italia. I called at 10 am on the 90 mark day and I couldn't get in to O'Hana or Le Cellier. It's really tough with this new online booking system. Have you looked into that yet? I would familiarize yourself with it and use it f you can. I was at work and our systems cannot handle all of the flash on the Disney site so I couldn't use it.

Sounds like the rest of you are pushing yourselves and racing and doing what WISHers to best! I'm thinking that I may be able to run the Princess half next year, but other than that racing is out of my agenda for awhile! Bittersweet!

Hi y'all.

I tried to get a PR on my 5 mile hill route, PR is 1:01:07 that I did on friday and today was 1:01:18 so missed it by 11 sec. Today's walk pace averaged 12:13 mpm. This route has a serious long hill and some gentle uphill so I want to do my hard walking there. It givesw me my hill and a good strength and endurance workout.

I'll give it another shot this week. I had chores today also, mowing, weeding, cleaning. Got about half of what I need to done. That's what days off are for right?

Eva, you take care of your sweet self.

Lynn you doing ok?

Margie, it's not supposed to be hot way up there!

I wonder what catchy name Connie will have for July. She is very creative with our monthly post.

I'm done for June with 98 miles and 31 hours of exercise. Erica had one 5 mile walk and the rest of the time she has been working, resting or redoing the bedrooms so our daughter can move back for a while after the baby comes.

Hope everyone is finding your share of joy. I'm looking for my joy every where I can. I've been training much harder and trying to get as many hours at work as I can. Erica is working extra to trying to save pennies, but we try to find quality time for each other and also find some fun.

Have an awesome evening y'all.
