I hope you didn't come down with something:sad2:

My TR title hints at the outcome. :rolleyes1

AP..that food looks awesome, especially the desserts......

The peanut butter pie was heaven and everybody else loved their desserts as well. That was one aspect I was never disappointed with at the meals, dessert was always good!

I love the Show night in Animator's Palette, on my lat cruise the Panama Canal cruise, it was on the night we were in Cabo San Lucas and I had Plao that night and went afterward to socialize with my fellow table mates, I wasn't hungry for dinner, but I did end up having desert the chocolate peanut butter pie by the way, it follows the souffle from Palo nicely by the way

Yum, chocolate souffle and peanut butter pie one after the other, I think I would die from all the heavenly goodness.

My cell phone alarm went off at the way too early time of 5:15am, my throat was still aching. :headache: Mom and I had set the alarm that early as we wanted to try and see a sunrise at sea and we also wanted to watch as the Magic approached Tortola.

Not really caring about my appearance as I would get dressed properly later I threw on some clothes randomly, grabbed the camera, and made my way up to deck 10.

There was only one other person up there to take pictures and watch the sunrise. There were a few teens hanging out in the sports area and they looked like they had been there all night. Where are their parents?!

I started snapping pictures of the beautiful pink sky right away.

It was really windy so Mom and I headed down one deck for a bit more protection.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2026th%20-%20Tortola/D11015.jpg

I got frustrated with the obstructed view so I went back up to deck 10. This is when disaster nearly struck! :scared1:

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2026th%20-%20Tortola/D11017.jpg

As I said it was really windy and it was whipping my lanyard around pretty good. Well stored in my lanyard were my Key to the World card and my drivers license. I had one of the open pouch lanyards so the wind sucked both of those cards right out and they went flying! I thought for sure they were lost to the sea. I started to panic. Luckily one of the people nearby were able to put there foot down and trap one of the cards before it blew overboard, the other one however had gone right over the railing and was definitely floating around in the ocean somewhere. Luckily for me it was my drivers license that was saved, the Key To The World card is easily replaced.

So after saying thank you many times to the wonderful person who saved my drivers license from its watery grave Mom and I headed down to the guest services desk to get a new key card issued.

I had to take pictures along the way though!

It was super easy to get my card replaced and we had a good laugh about what a close call that was. I handed my cards over to Mom for her to put in her lanyard which had a pouch that zipped shut, no way the wind was stealing anything out of it!

Mom and I decided to make a quick run down to Goofy's Galley to grab some fruit and then made our way back to the room to watch the rest of the approach from our verandah. This is when we saw that the yummy Stollen Bread we had eaten at Palo was also available at Goofy's, it just didn't have the cream and berries to accompany it.

Yep! Although I had just renewed it so even if it had been lost I would have had a new one arriving in the mail soon after I returned home anyway. It would just have been a pain having to use my passport as my id for the rest of the trip.

Beautiful, peaceful sunrise. So many clouds.

Well I still had my passport which was safe back in the room so the airport/border would nit have been a problem but it would have been a pain carting it around as my id for the rest of the trip, plus I would have been super paranoid about losing it!

It was a real struggle! I am not a fan of waking up early and the only time I manage to do it without moaning and groaning is on vacation. Although waking up early was probably not the best idea considering I was starting to get sick.

It was great, everybody was still asleep so it felt like we had the whole ship to ourselves.

Most of them are houses. Tortola is not as developed/touristy as some of the other islands.

I wonder if Disney will someday make Tortola a regular port?

I love sunrise as well, in the summer time when I am working the midnight shift I get to see the sky pink up right outside my window.

It wouldn't have been too big a pain as I would have still had my passport for id purposes and the day before we left on vacation I had renewed my license so a new card was already in the mail. So I would have been without a license for a few days max. It was the adrenaline of the moment, seeing my license flying through the air, you just start to panic.

So we were finally docked in our first port, Tortola, British Virgin Islands. Tortola was a new port for Disney the summer of 2009 and we were only the second sailing to stop here on their special itinerary. The first sailing had been the previous month (April) and unfortunately there was precious little information/feedback on the boards about the port. A few people posted random thoughts here and there but there was no in-depth info like I had been hoping for. So needless to say we were excited and also a little nervous as we were not sure what to expect with this being our first cruise and in a new port to boot!

Mom and I got ready for our excursion, I decided to just wear my swimsuit under my clothes as I did not want to waste time changing once we arrived at our destination. I threw on some shorts and a tank top over my suit. Also I dug out my sneakers from the closet, usually I would have just worn a pair of flip flops to the beach but we were not going to any ordinary beach and I had read that proper footwear was strongly advised for certain parts of the excursion, many people who have gone to where we were going with just flip flops deeply regretted it later.

So all dressed and our bag for the day packed Mom and I decided to go up to Topsiders to grab some fruit and to stroll the deck and take in the view.

Eventually it was time to meet with our excursion group. According to the navigator we were set to meet our group in Rockin Bar D at the nice early hour of 8:45. This early meeting time didn't bother us as we were up early anyways. There was a similar excursion that was leaving later that day at 12:45. I had chosen the earlier time though as we like to get an early start and we also figured the earlier you get somewhere the smaller the crowds.

When we arrived at Rockin Bar D they had cruise staff there handing out towels that you could take on the excursion with you. These are the same towels that are provided at the pools on board. They are just regular sized bath towels so if you like to have a nice big beach towel then it is best to bring your own but know that it is not necessary and it can save you a lot of room in your luggage.

I grabbed a couple towels for Mom and I and then we grabbed a seat and waited for our instructions. David, a CM from Canada, soon welcomed us and explained how things were going to work. First one person from the group needed to get in line and show the excursion tickets to the staff member from the company running our excursion, they would then provide us with wristbands, a food voucher (lunch was included in the excursion price) and a transportation ticket. A Disney CM also gave you a sticker, for each member of your party, that you were to wear in a prominent location on your body so they could easily identify you. Our group this day was "Blue Belle".

Once everybody was checked in and stickered up they raised a placard with "Blue Belle" on it that matched our stickers and then led us off the ship. As we left the ship they scanned our key cards. They do this every time you get on and off the ship so they know exactly who is on/off the ship at all times.

We were the only cruise ship in port that day which was of course very lucky, it would mean low crowds.

Our destination was on another island so we had to get on a smaller ferry boat for our 30 minute ride over to Virgin Gorda which is also part of the British Virgin Islands.

Mom and I made sure that we were towards the front of the group so that we could grab the primo spots up top in the open.

The Speedy's ferry/shuttle boat that we were taking was docked right alongside the Magic so literally we stepped off the Magic took a couple steps across the pier and we were on the ferry, very convenient! As we boarded they checked our wristbands to make sure that we were with the excursion.

Mom and I had the unfortunate luck of getting some silly girls sitting behind us. First they were arguing about the length of time one of them takes to shower. After they argued about that for a bit they moved on to arguing about Jon and Kate Plus 8, this was right when the divorce scandal was just starting up. What a joy it was getting to listen to them bicker back and forth, they were very annoying!

Luckily once we started moving they quieted down. On the way over our guide gave us a history of the area and various islands as we passed them, of course we were up top in the open instead of inside so we couldn't hear her 100% over the wind but we were still able to make out some of what she said.

Just look at that water! Unfortunately the cloudy skies prevented the water from truly sparkling. Imagine what it would look like with the sun shining brightly down on it, the colour would be much more vibrant. Unfortunately the camera just couldn't capture the true colour without the sun so you will just have to take my word for it that it was beautiful.

I was so excited as we got closer and closer to Virgin Gorda. Virgin Gorda means "Fat Virgin" and was named by Christopher Columbus as he reported that the island looked like a fat woman lying on her side when he first viewed it from the horizon.

Our ferry docked in the main town, Spanish Town, and then we were loaded onto some waiting open air safari buses that would take us on a mini-island tour and then deliver us to our ultimate destination.

I'm glad that you like the info/tips, I am always afraid that I am going to bore people writing in such detail. I include it all though because when I was researching the cruise and reading trip reports there just wasn't that much detail available or included in the reports, in fact many reports on the cruise boards are super short and don't even include pictures! So I'm hoping that I can help some future cruisers out with this report. :thumbsup2

Glad you like the details and info. :goodvibes There is such a HUGE difference between the WDW TR boards and the cruise TR boards. Here people include lots of info and pictures and actually post responses. On the cruises boards only a few reports have pictures and detail and hardly anybody posts/responds. I didn't really like writing over there, the atmosphere here is much nicer.

I couldn't believe that house either, it really annoyed me actually, churches should use their money to do good, not buy big fancy houses in the Caribbean. :headache:

I always used to think the pictures of the water you see in the magazines etc. must be photoshopped as I couldn't believe that water could be such a beautiful colour but now I have been on the cruise and seen it for myself, so beautiful!

I remember reading about this before I left on my cruise. Remember I sneaked over to the Cruise board because I was to impatient to wait till you got your Cruise portion on the WDW TR board? You saved my seapass from going overboard. I grabbed my laynard one nite, when I walked outside, and it just about flew right off.

I agree about the water being a brilliant blue.
Matt was upset with me, that he couldn't go along on the cruise, he told me the one thing he really wants to see is the blue water in the caribbean. I told him when he gets married and goes on his honeymoon, we will all go along with him and then he can see his blue water. He rolled his eyes at me.

When we were in the Cayman Island, which the British own too, we were told rich American's hide their money there, so they don't have to pay taxes, and they buy these homes and only come once or twice a year.

P.S. The boards are going down for the evening at 10:00 p.m. EST.

The air on the island was perfumed with a lovely floral scent that delighted the senses. It was not too strong to bother people who are sensitive to smells, it was just right. It smelt like heaven and it was so nice to just breathe it in, exactly how the air on a tropical island should smell.

This was the nicest house we saw in Spanish Town, the rest of the houses were very poor looking, It really makes you appreciate what you have.

There was livestock walking freely all over the island. Most of the time it was chickens and roosters but we also saw the random goat. For some reason I just found it so amusing to see a chicken strolling down the road and it made me giggle like crazy every time I saw one, you can definitely tell I am city girl from the amusement I get at seeing a simple chicken.

While living in the Caribbean does seem to have its advantages (weather) there are some definite BIG disadvantages (weather, economy). I think I would settle for being rich in Canada and having a vacation home down on one of the islands. :rolleyes1

Your pictures just gave me the BEST idea!! They should make another simulation for Soarin'...over Tortola!! I would love to see all those pics you have HUGE and smell that perfect, heavenly floral smell. :thumbsup2 Can I please forward your pics to Disney? ;) :rotfl:

I agree with you about just wanting a vacation home there! It's so perfect!! We should split one and we can stop there on all our cruises!! (If we're rich enough to have one, we're rich enough for lots of cruises!)

I would laugh at the random chickens too!! There was this one time my mom and I were making a big deal over this lizard at the world and a cast member walked by and she was laughing at us and I was just like "is it so obvious that we're tourists?" And she just nodded and laughed some more!

Still loving your tr!! Glad you have your priorities straight and realize how much more important this is then school! :lmao:

I won like $50 once. One time I saw this video of a couple who won a HUGE Jackpot and they were on one of our national news/talk shows and they were just so unenthused. They had just won MILLIONS and could barely muster up a smile for it. They were completely monotone. It was hilarious. :rotfl:

I think if I won a lot, my first reaction would give those annoying girls a run for their money! And then I'd get it out of my system and be fancy and refined with my money and tip people who open the door for me at Starbucks or the people who distribute carts at Walmart just because i have that much money. :snooty:

Then I would buy a nice house, nothing too big or fancy but something comfortable and I would also buy us each a car. Then I would probably donate some money to a charity and invest some. The rest I would use to travel. It sure would be great to never have to think/worry about money again. :cloud9:

Looks like my wish came true! Disney put out a press release detailing the new cruise ship, Disney Dream, that will sail starting January 2011 and it has a water coaster! I was wishing for a slide that adults can use and we get a freaking water coaster!

There is a bunch of other cool stuff that will be new to the ships. Here is some info I copied off of a friends Facebook page (she is a travel agent).

The Disney Dream™ will introduce a number of cruise-industry firsts and family-friendly innovations designed to make your Client's experience even more magical. Among the highlights:

AquaDuck — Disney Cruise Line® debuts the first-ever shipboard water coaster! This exhilarating high-speed flume ride featuring twists, turns, drops, uphill acceleration and river rapids — all while traversing the upper decks of the ship.
Virtual Porthole – A cruise-industry first for all inside staterooms! Virtual Portholes offer a "window" to the world with a real-time view outside the ship using high-definition cameras. As Guests observe the view, they may glimpse a magical surprise: animated characters like Mickey Mouse may pop by the Virtual Porthole.
Enchanted Art — Around the atrium lobby and throughout the ship, Enchanted Art will immerse your Clients in Disney storytelling in a completely new way. Enchanted Art magically comes alive as Guests pause to admire individual pieces.
Living Characters — In youth spaces, Disney Characters come to life and interact with children in one-of-a-kind experiences. Crush, the animated sea turtle from the Disney•Pixar motion picture "Finding Nemo," or the mischievous animated alien Stitch make scheduled appearances to chat, play and joke with kids in live, unrehearsed conversations.

After our mini-island tour our excursion group was dropped off at The Baths!

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2026th%20-%20Tortola/D11160.jpg

Here is a little info that I snatched from Wikipedia:

At "The Baths", the beach shows evidence of the island's volcanic origins, which deposited granite that eroded into piles of boulders on the beach. The boulders form natural tidal pools, tunnels, arches and scenic grottoes that are open to the sea. The largest boulders are about 40 feet (12 m) long.

The safari trucks dropped us off at the top of a hill where a restaurant and gift shops, aptly name "Top of the Baths", are located. Our excursion leader called us together and told us how long we would have on the beach and when to be back at the restaurant for lunch and to catch our ride back to the shuttle boat.

She also gave us a little bit of information on the area and some tips for our exploration of The Baths. For instance you are not to wear shoes of any kind while going through what I refer to as "the caves".

After giving us all the information we would need she led us in a procession down the trail to the beach. The trail is a dirt path that is steep at some parts and has boulders and trees making it uneven in other parts. This path is the reason that I wore my sneakers that day. Going down the hill in flip-flops would have been fine but many people who attempted the climb back up with wet feet and flip flops suffered the painful side effects (blisters).

It took maybe 5-10 minutes to reach the beach. It was pretty slow going since there were so many of us going down the narrow path at once. That lovely floral scent was still hanging in the area.

When you reach the bottom of the trail you will find the bathrooms and also a foot rinse station. Many people were stopping here to get changed, silly people should have worn their suits under their clothes!

This is also the only place that I saw any indication of the swine flu pandemic. There was a sign at the bathrooms with a picture of a pig with a crossed out caution sign through it and then a picture of hands getting washed in a sink. I was so surprised that out of the whole two week vacation ,that took place right at the start of the swine flu panic, this was the only indication that this pandemic was going on.

I was really impressed by the beach and the enormous size of the boulders. They were massive!

Lots of boats and yachts dock off the beach as it is a great snorkeling location and also a more direct route to the beach than climbing down the trail.

I was erring on the side of caution though; we still had "the caves" to explore and I was carrying the camera. I am a huge klutz so knowing my luck if I had tried to climb to the top of one of those boulders I would have fallen and broken a bone and the camera.

The Baths is divided into three sections:

The first is The Baths beach which is the beach you originally come to when you reach the end of the trail. This is the beach where the bathrooms, lockers and bar are located.

The second section is "The Caves", this is the area where there is the greatest concentration of the giant boulders. It forms caves, tunnels, grottoes and tidal pools. You have to make your way through "the caves" to reach the second beach, "Devil's Bay".

I think Mom was impatient with my picture taking at the first beach, she must have really wanted to start exploring the rock formations and to get to Devil's Bay.

I finally relented and stripped down to my bathing suit; stuffing my shoes and clothes in our day bag. That bag was stuffed full once my clothes and both of our shoes were stuffed in there.

Next Update: Our exploration of "The Caves"

The new ship isn't out until 2011 and then another new ship comes out in 2012. I know that he is planning on a cruise for 2012 for the big birthday trip so hopefully one of them will do longer itineraries as they were looking at doing a week long cruise. Right now the Dream is only set to do 3,4 and 5 night cruises.

:lmao: First thing I would do is pay off all the debts anybody in the family may have. Then I would buy a nice house, nothing too big or fancy but something comfortable and I would also buy us each a car. Then I would probably donate some money to a charity and invest some. The rest I would use to travel. It sure would be great to never have to think/worry about money again. :cloud9:

I would do the same!! I might start a business or something, doing something I love like photography so I could make even more money off a hobby (I'd might get bored just spending money all the time :rotfl:) and then save to completely pay for Landon's college and such.

The Disney Dream sounds so cool!! I wish they were doing the longer cruises though, because that's what I really want to do! Oh well...guess I'll just have to schedule more for when they do have longer ones! Oh darn! :lmao:

Well back a long time ago the area was volcanic and the giant boulders are a result of that. They have eroded down over time to what we see today.

I completely forgot about this, remember I cheated.
This is like going back to a really great book I read.
What was the temperature that day at the Baths.

After I posted I saw you put pictures up of the new Disney cruise ship.
Do you think it will be too large?
When we did a Meet/Mingle-hosted by Cruise Critc on our cruise,
some people were complaining that the cruise ship was more like a city,
and way to many people.
With over 1200 rooms and at least 2 to a room if not more,
that is already over 2400 people.
I don't know what to think, because I only did one cruise, and I didn't feel over crowded.

Nope, I don't think it will be too big. The Magic and Wonder are fairly small ships compared to the other cruise ships out on the seas these days. Sure the Dream will be bigger than the Magic and Wonder but it will still be smaller than most of the mega-ships. I also think that DCL handles the human traffic on the ship very well, I never felt crowded on the cruise and with even more areas to play around in on the new ship I think the feel will still be the same.

from what i understand, they receive a certain port fee for a certain amount of dockings per year. so they are locked into certain ports. However, i think the special itineraries are geared toward regular DCL cruisers to give them variety. Also, I think different ports try to get large cruiselines to come to their island.

My clothes and shoes safely stowed in the bag we started to make our way through "the caves". This area is what makes The Baths such a unique destination. Sure the beach is lovely but it is the rock formations that mark it as different and unique.

You will have seen the giant boulders in the pictures from the beach, well in "the caves" the boulders are much more concentrated and have piled on top of each other creating cave like areas, mazes, grottoes and tidal pools.

Of course since these rocks are here as a result of ancient volcanic activity the path through them can be very twisted and convoluted at times. Some areas you have to squeeze your way through two rocks or crouch down to go under, some places you are almost at a crawl. Other places you have to go up and over the rocks and the park has installed aides to help you with that process. I quite enjoyed the active exploration that was involved in getting through this area.

Now when our guide had been giving us instructions on how to proceed through this area she told us that 1) we should not wear shoes and 2) if we went into water past our ankles we were going the wrong way.

Bare feet were definitely the best way to get through here as they gripped the rock better than a shoe would, especially if you were wearing flip flops, that would have been a disaster!

Also it is possible to get through the caves without going into the water but half the fun is exploring all the little nocks and crannies and a lot of the time that involved getting wet! The correct "path" was clear as there would be the random sign or bridge to help you cross somewhere, no danger of getting lost.

This here was the hardest part to cross as you had to use that rope to pull yourself up and over the rock. It wasn't too hard though as both Mom and I were able to do it but it is definitely a bit of a work-out.

Before climbing over that though you encounter this beautiful grotto.

It is the most photographed area of The Baths and what you see on all the postcards. The colour of the rock walls and the water with the light flowing in just make it picture perfect. It was a beautiful sight to behold, I can imagine how it would have been even more dazzling if the sunlight streaming in had been brighter causing the colours of the water and rocks to reflect more.

The further back in this area I went the deeper the water got so I knew it was not on the "path" to Devil's Bay as you will remember the rule is the water won't be deeper than your ankles.

Well I didn't care that it was not on the path, I decided to head back there and explore anyways. So being very careful to not slip, with camera in hand I headed over some slippery rocks and through the small opening. Mom was not as adventurous as I and so she stayed behind with the bag.

These are the slippery rocks I had to cross

I explored back there for a few minutes and then went back to join Mom. She had been having some difficulty maneuvering through the rocks while carrying the bag so I took it from her and carried it the rest of the way. So now I had the camera in one hand and the bag over my other shoulder. I had to be very careful not to drop the camera or the bag into the water or bash the camera against a rock while I climbed and crawled my way through the rocks, it certainly made maneuvering through the spaces and around the rocks a bit tricky at times.

This "open" area here pretty much marked the halfway point through the caves.

Exploring the caves was great fun, I could just imagine some adventure story taking place here involving pirates and buried treasure. In fact I would not be surprised if this place had been used for just that purpose in the past, there were so many hidden crannies where things could have been hidden easily.

I will stop here and continue with the rest of our exploration of the caves in my next update.

It really was, the only cave/grotto that I have seen that was even more beautiful was The Blue Grotto in Capri, Italy.

Here's my not so good picture from 1999, how I wish I had a digital camera on that trip!

You look great...I completely agree, that color is great for you AND the trip!! :goodvibes I had to laugh at your bringing 5 bathing suits. :rotfl: Do you have even more that you didn't bring? I know every summer, I look and I'm like "I don't remember having this many...where did they all come from?" Then of course, by the end of summer, I probably have a few more!

Well I seem to get a new suit every year, I think it is due to living in Virgina Beach where I was in a suit nearly every day and thus they wore out quickly. It is programmed into me that I must get a new suit every summer! Also I like to have variety so that I am sure to have something that I am in the mood to wear each day. I am the same way with my trip clothes, I always bring more than I need so that I have a variety to chose from. ;)

I get one every year too! And I don't even wear them as much as you do!! But I like the whole variety thing too!! I don't like the idea of being tied down to a different outfit each day...I'd probably pick one out two choices for a certain day and then get there and be wishing I had the other one!! That's funny. What is it about summer time that makes you HAVE to buy a swimsuit regardless of how many you already have or how much you will be in it?

We continued to make our way through the rock formations taking everything in.

This is one of the bridges that they had to help you cross the really tricky parts. As you can see it is pretty narrow so it was one-way traffic. If somebody else was crossing in the opposite direction you just had to step aside and wait for them to cross before you could start to cross.

We stayed at the tidal pools for quite a while. We eventually decided to move on as we still had to make it to Devil's Bay.

Well lucky us not even five minutes later we were exiting "the caves' and seeing our first sight of Devil's Bay.

Yep, definitely true. The fish weren't even bothered by the few of us who were in the water, they could have cared less that we were there.

I just wish that I had invested in a waterproof digital camera, I could have gotten so many awesome pictures of the sea life.

Wow I can't believe how clear that water is!! It's beautiful!! I have never seen tropical fish in the wild!! It looks awesome. The water was clear enough that you still got GREAT pics without the special water camera!!

Yep, I was pretty lucky with the fish pictures here. The waterproof camera would have been really helpful on our next two port days though. I will definitely be buying one before my next cruise. It would be a good investment anyways seeing as how it always seems to rain when we go on vacation. If we had a waterproof camera we could take pictures in the rain all we wanted without worrying about the camera getting ruined. :rotfl:

The underwater cameras are great, one of our tablemates had one and people on the cruise boards have posted pictures from them, very nice quality.

Well after all the activity of climbing and crawling through the caves I thought it was about time that I took my first dip into the waters of the Caribbean.

I can now say that I have swam in the Atlantic, Pacific, Mediterranean and Caribbean. :thumbsup2

The water was just a little cool but not uncomfortable, it would have felt fantastic on a hot sunny day.

Mom for whatever reason decided not to join me in the water even though she had worn her bathing suit. It is a shame, the water was really nice.

She did take some pictures of me though.

I didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked at Devil's Bay as we were on a schedule. We had two options for getting back up to the top where lunch was being served. We could take a trail that leads up from Devil's Bay but we were not sure where it would drop us off and it was also rumoured to be a harder climb than the first trail. The second option was of course to go back through the caves and up the trail we had come down on. Mom was not comfortable with going up the trail at Devil's Bay since we didn't know where it would lead so that left us with option number two. Since we were going back through the caves we had to leave Devil's Bay a bit earlier than I would have liked.

As we were leaving the beach I stubbed my toe on a boulder that was covered in sand. Ouch! That sucker was painful! That was one drawback of this area, you had to be careful where you stepped as there were boulders buried in the sand that you could stub your toes on or trip over.

So back through the caves we went. We made our way through much faster this second time around as we were not stopping to take pictures and explore. I think we made our way through in 15 minutes, originally it had taken us about an hour or so to make it through.

Back at The Baths beach I stopped to put my shoes on and dry off while Mom started up the trail ahead of me.

I ventured into the bathroom but it was nasty so I opted to hold it in. Yuck! Jordan would probably rate this bathroom at least a four flush.

Back up the trail I went, nobody else was on it and I quickly caught back up with Mom.

Mom and I made our way over to the restaurant where our tour guide had reserved tables and they had a buffet set-up. They cut off our wristbands as we collected our food to show that we had redeemed our lunch. Let me tell you the lunch was nothing to write home about. I wish we had skipped lunch and just stayed down at the beach for that extra time. Oh well.

My opinion on the lunch offerings may be skewed though as right about this time I started to feel really awful. Remember how my throat had been hurting the night before and that morning? Well it was now back worse than ever. I also had a headache, chills and my arms and legs were aching and my neck was really sore and stiff. I felt horrible! It was really warm out and I was sitting there wrapped in towels shivering away.

The restaurant had all outdoor seating, a pool that you can swim around in and a few gift shops attached. I can't vouch for the quality of the restaurant food as the food we were eating was prepared by the company in charge of our excursion and they were just paying to use the space.

After lunch we had about thirty minutes to kill until the shuttle buses arrived to take us back to the ferry so Mom and I wandered the gift shops. I was feeling so horrible though that I did not even want to think about shopping so I went over and sat in the covered seating area to wallow in my misery.

It was so strange as the whole time we were down at the beach and in the caves I felt fine but pretty much as soon as I got to the restaurant I felt like death. It was a miserable thirty minutes waiting for the shuttles to come get us. I just sat there shivering and aching wrapped in our dry towels.

Next Time: Will I continue to get worse or will the tide turn?

A bonus! I thought you all might like to see what The Baths look like on a sunny day. The water is such a different colour when the sun is shining! Pictures borrowed from photobucket.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields.

That's awesome. I wish they did something bigger like that on our days for remembrance (like Veterans Day or 9/11).

I find the way Remembrance/Veteran's Day is observed in the US and Canada is so very different which I find rather odd as the US is usually so patriotic and supportive of their armed forces in all other aspects.

Up here starting maybe two-three weeks before Remembrance Day the red poppies show up all over. Basically you make a donation (usually your change) to the veterans and you get a poppy pin that you wear on your coat, shirt, wherever, some even wear it in their hair! Pretty much every Canadian wears a poppy. It is really unusual to see somebody without it. They are directly related to the poem I posted about the poppies in Flanders Fields.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row

Also all schools have a Remembrance Day ceremony where the poem is recited and other respectful formalities are held. Even the colleges and universities do not hold classes for an hour long period so that people can attend the Remembrance ceremonies.

Now during my time in the US I never really saw/participated in any Veteran's Day activities. I am sure the military probably marks it in some way but the general populace and the schools really didn't seem to do much. Now maybe it is not like that everywhere but that is how it was in Virginia Beach which is odd as it has such a large military community. :confused3

The buses did come after what felt like forever (probably was only 15 minutes) and we were all loaded on and driven down to the ferry. No island tour this time, just a short drive back to the ferry dock.

When we got to the ferry dock they would not let us on the boat. They never did explain what was wrong. I heard two stories, one was that the driver was missing, the other that the boat had mechanical issues. I am going to go with the mechanical issues story as ten minutes later another boat showed up and docked alongside the original. We had to board the "broken" boat to get across to the new one. I have no idea why they didn't just dock the boat on the other side of the pier, seems that it would have been much easier. :confused3

We had to show our boarding ticket that we had been given when we checked in that morning to prove that we were with the excursion and we were then allowed to board.

Mom and I grabbed some seats up on top in the open air and we were joined with a very nice lady that we chatted with all the way back to Tortola.

I started to feel a bit better on the boat ride back. Maybe it was the sea air, the water I had been drinking or perhaps it was because the sun was fighting to come out. At one point I could feel the sun beating down on my shoulders so hard that I put some more sunscreen on so that I wouldn't burn. I still wasn't feeling 100% but I was no longer aching and shaking with chills.

Just like that morning the ferry pulled up to the pier right across from the Magic so all we had to do when we got off was walk a few steps and we were back on the cruise ship.

There were some CM's out on the pier collecting the towels that people had taken on the excursion. This was a nice touch as we did not need to worry about taking care of them once we were back on the ship.

You then got in a line to go through security to get back on the ship. They had you sanitize your hands, scanned your Key to the World card and screened your bags while you walked through the metal detector. The whole process took maybe a minute or two.

We made our way back up to our stateroom to change out of our suits and into some fresh clothes. The ship still had several hours left before departure so Mom and I decided to go explore Road Town a bit. Our other goal was to track down some cough drops for my throat.

Up Next: We explore Road Town, Tortola

:confused3

Wow I would love for our country to do something like that! The last time I really remember anything being done was my history class showing videos of the World Trade Centers on 9/11. I wish we did more for Veterans Day. I know a lot of people who thank our military, but the whole Poppy thing they do in Canada is really amazing. I'm just highly patriotic so I always get let down by the lack of stuff we do. Oh well.

I loved all your pictures on the way back to the ship. It looks like it would be such a nice little place to explore and just see. I can't wait to hear more about how you are feeling and the rest of your Tortola day!!

Hey Car! The Baths are probably a place that your family would really enjoy. :thumbsup2

I think the scanner is more for actual security to make sure you are not bringing something like a weapon back onto the ship rather than not allowing you to buy certain things. Also I am pretty sure you are not allowed to take produce etc on and off the ship.

The poppies are also a tradition in the other Commonwealth countries so if you were to travel to Britain you would see people wearing them there too. I remember one year one of the Harry Potter movies premiered right around Remembrance Day and so all the male actors were wearing poppies in their red carpet photos. I saw one person from the States ask "Why are they wearing tomato pins on their suits?" :lmao:

Thanks! It really was fabulous. Rediscovered the magic of staying onsite. :wizard: I think my mil finally felt the magic of it all. :cool1: It was her first time staying onsite and seeing any night shows...and she's been at least half a dozen times! Can you imagine?! :scared1::rotfl:

Since Den and I have been married I kept trying to convince her to stay to see the night shows but I guess she just didn't get what all the fuss what about until now! She's also collecting pins now. I've crested a monster. :lmao:

Exactly!! She told me she had never stayed in a park past 5pm! :scared: We managed to pull it all off (including Osborne lights) this time except Fantasmic. We got rained out. 6:30 show didn't but 8 show did. That will be our top priority next trip for her. Can't complain really since it was the only few hours of rain we had the entire trip.

Aww, that is too bad. Fantasmic is the best of the nighttime shows in my opinion.

Yes, it is usually cheaper to book the two parts separately. What type of room were you looking at, verandah or oceanview? I guess that price sounds about right, it seems high for such a short cruise but I only ever look at a two-person rate when pricing cruises so of course it seems shocking to me. That is almost as much as Mom and I paid for the two of us in a verandah room on a 7-night.

Don't hold out for any discounts though, DCL doesn't really do that. The only discount I have ever seen is the "kids sail free" promotion. Not sure the specifics on that one, my understanding is that it was really limited.

Good morning!! I am here!! How was your weekend??

:rolleyes1 So...I'm thinking that the cruise in May 2011 could work out really well!! Really, my only concern is that Landon won't be potty-trained and so he can't go into the free kids club. (And I'm pretty sure he couldn't sail free even under 3 either, if my parents and I got seperate staterooms, correct?) That truly is my only issure for going then. I will have to consider it a lot but I may just jump the gun and go for it!! I'll keep you posted! :goodvibes

Weekend was fun. My university won the Yates Cup (football) and so are moving on the the National Championship(Vanier Cup). Work was busy though as a result as people felt the need to drink themselves silly and have huge parties to "celebrate".

Then Alek came over on Sunday and we decorated the tree(s) for Christmas. :thumbsup2
