Too bad the siblings can be so annoying! (I know the feeling!) Again, even with the smoke coming in and clouding things up a bit, Canada looks absolutely beautiful!

Hi, Lessa!
I finally got caught up on your report. We got back from our trip on Thursday, and today's the first time that I've acutally been able to get up to speed on any of the reports that I've been reading. Of course yours was the first that I wanted to check out!
I'm so loving the report! I'm so glad that you finally made it to the cruise portion. You're doing a great job with all the details. I know my report won't be anywhere close to yours!
I'm also loving reading about the trip to your Dad's. What a beautiful place! I'm sorry that the boys were being so mean to you. I hope that straightened up!!
By the way...I feel the same about the Mickey slide...It's totally unfair that the adults can't go down it, and like you I'm hoping that they have something for the big kids on the new ships!!
Keep up the awesome work!

REALLY GOOD pics on the drive, if you like wineries, go just over the border in MI, and hit up traverse city MI, they have like 30 some plus wineries, you would like it.

Never heard of it, I will have to look it up.

Too bad the siblings can be so annoying! (I know the feeling!) Again, even with the smoke coming in and clouding things up a bit, Canada looks absolutely beautiful!

Thanks, Canada is a beautiful country and has so much to see. The mountains in the west, the vast open prairies, the cities in Ontario and Quebec (Niagara Falls, Toronto,Ottawa,Montreal, Quebec City) and then the quaint towns of the Maritimes.
Hi Lessa I am back will try to catch up this week !! Did I miss anything ???????

Only a few updates for both the cruise and the BC trip. :rolleyes1

What a great TR! I enjoyed every minute!

Thank you, glad you are enjoying it. :goodvibes

After the animation class we decided to head back up to the pool since it had stopped raining. We saw this guy walking around the ship as we were headed back to our room to change.

Ready for the pool we went back up to deck 9. After securing some chairs I told Mom I was going to go over to the family pool and grab some pizza from Pinoccho's Pizzeria.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2024th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D9027.jpg

They have several different varieties available, I decided to just get some plain pepperoni.

They had The Jungle Book playing on the big screen over the family pool.

I like the pizza, lots of people on the cruise board say that they can't stand the pizza but I thought it was pretty tasty and I am a pizza lover. The people who don't like it are probably all from Jersey and New York, they are pizza snobs. ;p

We hung out at the pool for about an hour and then guess what happened? It started to rain again!

We packed up our stuff and went back down to the room. Mom was in a major funk now and was pouting around the room. She was just so fed up with all the rain that we had gotten on this trip. I think she even cried a little bit. I told her to cheer up and that there was no way that the rain could follow us around on the whole cruise.

I left Mom pouting in the room and I went down to the Promenade Lounge for the origami class, also being led by Oscar.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2024th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D9035.jpg

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2024th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D9036.jpg

We were supposed to be making origami flowers. Well mine turned out looking demented. This was not a true origami class. Origami is the art of folding paper and you are supposed to fashion the creations out of one piece of paper. Well they handed us 5 strips of paper and they had us using glue. This is not origami! I am really good at origami, at least I used to be. I can make origami cranes like a pro. So my excuse for my flower turning out demented is that it was not real origami. ^_^ I chucked my flower on the way back to the room, no way I was keeping that! lol

Back at the room I went out onto the verandah and the skies had cleared and it was now a beautiful sunny day! Thank god!

Mom and I decided to order some room service for lunch before heading back to the pool.

I ordered a pepperoni pizza and a Mickey ice cream bar. Mom ordered the chicken quesadilla salad and a Mickey Bar.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2024th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D9039.jpg

We enjoyed our lunch while relaxing out on the veranda, this is the life!

When we got up to the pool all the lounge chairs on deck 9 by the pool were occupied so we grabbed some on deck 10. No big deal, it was actually nicer than being poolside, not as crowded and there are stairs right there for easy access to the pool area.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2024th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D9040.jpg

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2024th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D9041.jpg

Mom and I had brought our WDW refillable mugs up to the pool with us so I grabbed those and walked down to the drink station to fill them up. I recommend bringing your own mug as the cups provided are pretty small. You can refill them as much as you want but it is just easier to have a mug on hand.

We spent the afternoon soaking up the sun and relaxing by the pool. Mom mostly stayed in her lounger reading but I wanted some pool time!

I alternated between the hot tubs and the pool. I was joined in the hot tub by a nice grandma who had ditched the rest of the family back at the Goofy pool for the peace of the adult pool.

The hot tub was making me feel overheated so I went into the pool. Along the edges of the pool is a very shallow area where you can sit or lay in the water, it was great. The water was nice and warm but not too warm, just perfect. So I lay there in the pool soaking up the sun and listening to the tropical music they had playing, it was perfect.

At one point the cruise staff cleared the pool for "Adult Pool Games". They chose three women and three men to compete against each other.

The first game was a "dolphin" race. They were given a ball that they had to push across the pool using their nose. The guys got a golf ball sized ball and the girls got one that was much bigger. The guys ended up winning because they cheated and instead of pushing the ball with their nose they put it in their mouth and swam with it.

The next game was a wet t-shirt race. Each team was given a t-shirt that they had to wear while swimming across the pool and back. They then had to take the t-shirt off and get it on the next member of the team and repeat until all three had done the lap. The girls won this game. So the score was now 1:1.

The last game was a treasure hunt. David (cruise staff) threw two handfuls of gold coins into the pool. The two teams then had one minute to collect as many of them from the bottom as possible. Unfortunately the guys won that round and so they won the contest.

The participants all got a free round of drinks for playing.

It was very funny to watch and I imagine to participate in as well.

As I was relaxing in the pool I ran into the Diser, Joanne, that I had been chatting with the day before in the cruise terminal. We chatted for a while and then I decided to get out of the pool and go rejoin Mom.

I had brought a book to the pool with me so I lay out and enjoyed my book while drying off. I was interrupted a few times by the cruise staff coming by and asking if I wanted a drink, again they were VERY attentive when it came to offering to get you a drink. I declined all offers.

Once I was all dry Mom and I decided to pack up our stuff, take a stroll around the deck and then head back to the room to get ready for the evening.

This is the crew pool

The Mickey pool (Kids pool) was starting to look a little gross. Somebody told me that the discoloration is from all the sunscreen but it looks like something else to me....

The LONG hallway back to our room. The halls were very narrow and when the room attendants had their carts out in the hall it was pretty much single file walking.

Another great update!

That pool really doesn't look appealing with all that sunscreen in it. :scared1:

Love the adult pool and how you can hang out on the edge in shallow water.

Okay...I'm all caught up!!!!

Canada looks beautiful! You are a trooper! Hiking, stepmom, annoying brothers, fires and dad all together...you survived and that's saying something I'm sure.

The cruise....heaven. That Adult Pool is so relaxing...you can't even hear the noise from the other pools--amazing. Glad you had great tablemates--it really does make a difference.

The pizza is not that bad....

The adult pool was perfect. The pool was small which is pretty much necessary on a cruise ship but it was never crowded. The kids pool got pretty crowded though.

I did survive, wait until you hear about our next hike and you will be surprised I did. I came home pretty banged up.

It was amazing how the sound didn't travel over. It was like as soon as you crossed into the adult area the rest of the ship's noise melted away.

Did any of the cruise staff get thrown in the pool?

Now that you mention it I do seem to remember David jumping into the pool to try and hold the guys back in the wet t-shirt race. I had forgotten about that.

You have no idea how relieved we were to see the sun. I think if the rain had lasted much longer I would have joined Mom in her pouting.

The only time we saw other ships was on Pirate Night. I suspect that the reason they were so close to us was so that their passengers could view Disney's fireworks.

Hey!! Just finally got all caught up!! Loving your tr!! Definitely getting more focused on planning my own cruise...you can start booking for 2011 soon! Which brings me to my next thing!!

Did you see they've added new itineraries?! (I think I messed that spelling up.) One is to Alaska during the summer and the Mexican Rivera other times!! What do you think about those places? I am REALLY thinking an Alaskan one. I've always wanted to go there! But I don't know if I want the tropical cruisey thing. Hmm...

My main question is, when you book do you just have to pay the deposit and then have until how many days in advance of the cruise to pay it off?

Yep, I saw the new itineraries, they are also returning to the Med in 2011.

They have sailed the Mexican Riveria in the past so they have experience with the ports and what did and did not work, you will also get the warm tropical weather. Also since the cruise sails from LA you can tack on a few days at Disneyland to make the trip extra special.

The Alaska cruise also sounds wonderful but is sure to be very popular and probably pricey as it is a new and special itinerary. If you want to book this one make sure to book it as soon as possible (the day booking opens is best). The prices only go up and the more people book the higher the price goes. Of course Disney has not released the prices for this yet, hopefully it won't be too scary! With the Alaska cruise you are going to see some beautiful scenery but you will be sacrificing the warm weather. The pools onboard are not covered and I have not heard anything about them fitting the ship to make them so. Of course I am sure that Disney will have lots of indoor activities to make up for the lack of pools. You will also have to get a passport if you want to go on the Alaska cruise as it leaves out of Canada and you need to have a passport to drive or fly across the border.

The new ship will also be sailing in 2011 so another option you have is sailing the Caribbean onboard the new ship. It will be doing shorter itineraries (3-4 nighters) so if you want a longer cruise you could always book a back to back cruise. Lots of people do this and they make it really easy for you.

When you book you have to pay a deposit. For the longer cruises it is $250 per person. It may be more though for the Alaska and Mexico cruises as they are "special" itineraries. After you pay the deposit the rest of the balance is not due until 95 days out I think? You will get a statement in the mail telling you when the rest is due and if you book through Dreams Unlimited your vacation profile page will also tell you when it is due.

Good thing you guys are patient and persistant! Hope that rain stays away for good now!

Another early morning for us as the hike itself was going to be at least 5 hours and it was a 2 hour drive each way. It was going to be a much pleasanter drive though as Maria was not coming along so Alek, Erich and I did not have to cram together in the back seat. Instead I got to sit up front and navigate.

Dad informed us that we were driving out into the sticks and he wasn't kidding, I thought we were going to run into the Clampetts out there! We eventually turned off the highway and onto a forest service road that Dad informed us was usually used for logging but because of the recession the logging business has pretty much come to a screeching halt. Recession=No new building projects, No building projects=No logging business

Well this logging road was pretty rough, good thing Dad had an SUV to handle the roads, no way a sedan would have had the clearance to get up the mountain.

As we were driving along we randomly came upon some cows grazing. They obviously belonged to a farmer because they were branded but whoever they belonged to had just set them free to roam on the lower reaches of the mountains. He clearly was not worried about them wandering off.

http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/BC%202009/TL001.jpg

Well the further up the mountain we went the worse the road got, it was slow going. Good thing nobody else wanted to come down the road as there was nowhere to pull over to let them by, that would have been an interesting situation.

We spotted a grouse on the drive up

http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/BC%202009/TL002.jpg

We finally reached the "parking area" which was pretty much just a dirt clearing. This trail Dad was taking us on was clearly not an official BC National Parks Trail.

We started up the trail which was fairly steep. My legs were still sore from the hike two days ago so it was pretty rough going for me for awhile until my muscles loosened up again.

http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/BC%202009/TL003.jpg

http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/BC%202009/TL007.jpg

Ah! Finally some flat land to walk across! My legs were grateful.

http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/BC%202009/TL009.jpg

For some reason I was feeling very much like Maria Von Trapp and I felt like running across this mountain meadow singing "The hills are alive! With the sound of music!" Well I didn't run across the field but I did sing a bit.

http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/BC%202009/TL012.jpg

Well the flat land didn't last long and soon we were climbing up again. Now I had the song "Climb Every Mountain" from The Sound of Music in my head. I even got Dad singing along with me.

http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/BC%202009/TL018.jpg

The Twin Lakes are within sight! Good thing too as we were all starving and Dad said we were not stopping for lunch until we got to the lakes.

We enjoyed a nice lunch lakeside admiring our beautiful surroundings. Erich even took a drink from the lake. We loitered there for about thirty minutes before packing up and starting off again. There was another lake, the "twin" of the one we ate lunch at, just over the ridge. After that Dad was taking us off trail and taking us to the top of Lakeview Mountain....

That was nice that Disney gave their CM's there own pool. Was that the front of (bow) of the ship?

I think I asked you this before, but could you tell me again, where you are in Canada, compared to the United States? Those mountain pictures are just gorgeous, and I know my dh would love to go on vacation and hike like your family did. I think Faunter said come to Traverse Michigan and it would be great to know, that the area is just north or east of Michigan. My dh is a hiking nut and he loves to tourcher our kids too.

Yep, that pool is at the front of the ship. We never saw anybody down there though, I suspect they probably get to use it on port days when things are a little slower onboard the ship.

The place Faunt was talking about in Michigan was for wineries not hiking. All the good hiking here in Canada (mountains) is out in British Columbia and Alberta. Unfortunately, Ontario, where we live, is incredibly flat and pretty boring when it comes to hikes. Dad lives in Vernon in the Okanagan Valley and has lots of good hikes that are only a 2-3 hour drive away. If you want to stay somewhere that is closer to the hikes then you probably want to stay somewhere in the Rockies or near one of the national parks. Two that I know of in BC are Revelstoke National Park and Glacier National Park. In the Rockies the two most well known areas are Banff National Park and Jasper National Park.

Wow! You needed a vacation after the trip to Dad's! All that hiking must have WORN YOU OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 No kidding, Some of the scrapes I got on this last hike are still healing. The next part of the hike was very brutal for me, physically and emotionally.....

Oh thanks for the lengthy reply!! I actually started looking at everything yesterday and I think that for at least my first cruise, I'm still thinking Caribbean!! Alaska is so beautiful though! I will definitely take a cruise there one day.

And I love your idea about if I ever go on a cruise taking off in LA, stopping by Disneyland...and I was thinking maybe even all the parks in Cali like Knotts, SeaWorld, Legoland...etc...but I'm getting way ahead of myself!!

And I love the pics of your hike!! So beautiful!! I love the mountains. There's just something being there that just feels so good to the soul despite the havoc that hiking through them wrecks on the body! LOL

A trip to Cali visiting the national parks, San Francisco, probably stop in Monterey and visit our old haunts, Disneyland, Legoland, San Diego Zoo.

The next big Florida trip where we are going to visit WDW, Universal, Sea World and Busch Gardens.

Trip to Japan with Alek

Don't worry Jo, your girls are too old for the kiddie pool anyways. I can't remember what the age limit is, I think it is probably around 8 or so. Anybody feel free to correct me if I am wrong! Also kids under a certain age can't go in the Mickey pool. they do have a splash zone to the side of the pool for the diaper crowd.

DCL is a bit pricey, hopefully once the two new ships are in rotation their prices will become more reasonable since they will have doubled their fleet and more than doubled the rooms available, this is Disney though so that is probably wishful thinking. :guilty:

The hallways by the rooms were tiny! Everywhere else on the ship they were nice and spacious. The halls by the rooms and the stateroom bathrooms were the only real indicators (when it came to the size of things) that we were on a ship.

After lunch our adventure continued, Dad informed us we were now going off trail and he was taking us up to the top of Lakeview Mountain. Well if any of you saw my Facebook messages while I was gone you know that this hike up the mountain did not go well for me.

First some more pictures from around the lake

http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/BC%202009/TL060.jpg

So we have started the climb, so far things are going well, it was a tough climb but nothing traumatizing yet.

This is a view of the "twin lake", it was just over the hill from where we ate lunch.

http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/BC%202009/TL070.jpg

http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/BC%202009/TL073.jpg

Now see all the rocks and boulders in the picture? Well we had to climb up over those and they were not stable. You really had to watch your footing and test the rock where you wanted to step next to make sure it would not shift under your footing. The pictures do not really show exactly how steep the incline was so you will just have to believe me that it was steep.

So Alek, Erich and Dad motor on up to the top where the rocks end really quickly while I was moving really slowly. I was petrified, I thought I was going to slip and fall or one of the rocks was going to give out and I would fall so halfway up I froze and started crying, I was so scared. I figured out that I really do not like heights! So Alek, Erich and Dad were at the top having fun, goofing around, Erich even decided to climb back down to the bottom and "race" back up, he did it in 23 seconds! I, of course, saw all this while I was clinging to the rocks afraid for my life, Alek even took a video of Erich doing this, it was insane!

Alek eventually came to the top to see where I was and encouraged me to keep going, he took the walking stick from me so I would not have to deal with it while trying to climb. I eventually got to the top and when I did I sat down and had a good cry. My stinker brothers even took a picture of me crying.

Now you are probably thinking it must have been pretty cold up there for there to still be snow in August but it wasn't at all.

Alek and Erich had a snowball fight and they got it on video, I won't post it though as there is some swearing but in the background you would have gotten to hear me complaining about a stupid fly that kept buzzing around me and my dad getting exasperated with me.

At this point we were almost to the top all we had to do was climb up another one of those crumbling rock cliffs again. :scared1:

I started climbing before the rest of them since I was so slow. Well I guess they decided to climb up a different part than I did as I lost sight of them. I then began to panic again, this cliff was much steeper and much higher up than the previous one. I was completely frozen and couldn't move. I was already distressed from before and now I was a total and complete mess. I tried to push through and keep moving but I got to one part where I could not find a foothold that would not shift, I just could not move after that and so I clung to that rock wall for my life all the while crying my eyes out. I kept calling out for the others to see where they were but they didn't respond which caused me to cry even harder. Eventually I heard very faintly Alek calling my name. I responded and he showed up at the top. He was going to leave to go tell them he had found me but I begged him to stay, seeing him at the top made it seem like a much easier task to climb the rest of the way.

I later saw a video that Erich took of Dad and Alek arriving at the top of the mountain. After they did their little victory dance for getting to the top they looked around and couldn't find me. Here is a direct quote "Where's Lessa?","I don't know", "Oh ****" That is when they started to call out for me.

http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/BC%202009/TL108.jpg

http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/BC%202009/TL114.jpg

When I got to the top I had no emotion left to feel a sense of accomplishment, instead I felt sick with fear at being up so high and I was still sniffling. I think Dad felt bad, who would have figured that I would have such a fear of heights? I sure didn't!

I looked around and the views were magnificent, I don't know if I would put myself through that again. Maybe it wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't had to climb up those shifting rocks, I don't know, all I know is that I wanted down!

Well to get down we had to do down another shifting rock face! I was slow moving at this as well but I got down without another crying jag. I cut my legs and arms up pretty good on all the rocks, I even got a nice rip in my pants, right on the butt! I wasn't too sad about that though as they were only $10 and I had bought them specifically for the hike and wouldn't be wearing them again anyways.

Next we had to climb down a very steep flower meadow. It was very pretty but very hard to climb down.

http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/BC%202009/TL124.jpg

At one point I slipped and fell and banged my leg up pretty badly, I had a nice purple bruise on my leg the next day. Of course I was already upset from earlier so this just sent me to crying again, I am such a wimp! When I stood up my ankle was hurting, I could still walk on it though.

I was so happy to get back to the car. We had seen some amazing sights but I would have been much happier if we had just stopped the hike at the lakes and not gone off path and up the mountain. It would have avoided my trauma, both physically and emotionally.

Back down the logging road we went until we emerged in farmland again.

Two hours later we were back in Vernon, the plan was to visit Grandma before going back to the house but we had to wait 30 minutes or so as it was her dinnertime. So what did we do? Dad took us to A&W again! I went into the bathroom and cleaned myself up a bit as I was completely coated in dirt.

We drained our root bears and then went to see Grandma. We told her about our day and she told us "That we are her best friends, and her nose" :lmao: She always made us laugh.

Back at the house I immediately went down to my room to get some clean clothes so I could shower. I encountered Maria and Angelica in the rec room watching tv so I told them laughingly all about my trauma and showed them the rip in my pants. Angelica laughed but Maria just sat there frowning, okay.....

I felt so good after the shower, clean again!

Dinner that night was awkward. Once again Angelica did not eat with us. What made it awkward though was that Maria was obviously pissed off about something as she did not say a single word to anybody and sat there glaring and stabbing at her food. She wouldn't even talk to dad. Alek tried to make light of the situation by joking but he was met with silence. Awkward!

We had been planing on watching a movie with Dad that night but he was informed that she was going to bed at 9pm and that there was going to be no movie as "it would keep her awake", even though the tv room is nowhere near their bedroom..... She basically told Dad that we was going to bed too. What a witch!

We were still all completely baffled as to why she was angry. We had been gone all day so what could we possibly have done to offend her!

Sunset, you can see how the smoke is making everything hazy.

http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/BC%202009/TL136.jpg

We had no plans other than to veg around the house all day the next day with a possible last hike the day before we left. I had a feeling that was not going to happen though as we were all pretty tired.

Mom and I relaxed in the room for a bit before getting dressed for the night.

We watched a bit of An American Girl Movie:Chrissa. It was all about bullying and mean girls. Girls are horrible and I am ashamed to admit that back when I was in middle school I was horrible too. :sad2:

It was formal night so after getting into my dress I pulled out my strappy heels. Well my feet were so swollen still that it was near impossible to get them on and they were uncomfortable once on. I had another pair of dressy shoes but they hurt even worse than the strappy shoes. I decided to suck it up, it was only for a few hours and most of that time I would be sitting down anyways.

Minnie Mouse was out for photos in her formal dress near the theatre. The line was already pretty long so I decided I didn't need my picture with her.

Once again we showed up nice and early for the show. Tonight it was The Golden Mickeys which is Disney's play on the Academy Awards and they went all out with this theme. I was very much looking forward to this show as I always read glowing reviews about it.

Once they opened the doors Mom and I headed in to scout out some good seats. Initially I went right for the front row dead center but then I reconsidered as it was a bit too close to get pictures of the whole stage. So we moved over to the side and grabbed some seats right on the aisle towards the middle of the theatre. This ended up being the best place to sit both for our view and for taking pictures. I could take pictures/watch the show without peoples heads getting in the way thanks to being on the aisle and I could get good close-ups plus overall views of the stage. Perfect spot :thumbsup2

Once again the servers were out in full force catering to your every alcoholic need. ;) Mom and I chose not to imbibe, we are not big drinkers.

A fun part of the Golden Mickeys is that as you arrive for the show you walk down the "red carpet" before getting to the theatre. "Rona Rivers" was there "live on the red carpet" to interview various people (mostly kids) as they arrived for the "award show". She would ask them such things as "Who are you wearing?", "Who selected your outfit?", "Who is your favourite Disney character?", and "Who are you hoping to see tonight?". It was incredibly cute especially the little boys all decked out in their little tuxes. These interviews were aired on a big screen inside the theatre so you got to watch them as you waited for the show to start.

Soon the show started, it started like any award show would with a song and dance.

Once the opening number was over things start to "go wrong". The host of the award show has not arrived and so a stage technician is forced into the role of host for the show.

We are treated to a "live" speech from Roy Disney.

After that the show really started. Each Disney film that was "nominated/won" in its category had a number. I don't remember which film was meant to represent each category but each musical number was fantastic! I took TONS of pictures and since I was told not to scrimp on the pictures I am going to post nearly all of them. ;) Video and flash photography are strictly forbidden in the shows which makes photographing the shows difficult.

First up was Snow White

A cute part of the Snow White number was when several of the children were brought up onto to the stage as the seven dwarves. I thought that was really sweet that some lucky children got to participate in the show.

After the interlude with the host Ursula showed up for The Little Mermaid. They had her face up on the screen and then they actually had octopus tentacles coming out of the stage and moving around. I wonder if this is when the sea witch placed her curse on me to steal my voice or if she had done that already when I saw her back at Hollywood Studios? ;)

The stage tech/host then came out all dolled up in a fancy dress and her hair done up. She gave a "speech" about how she never thought she could do something like this and it helped her realize she can do anything, yada yada yada. She sang a little song

Lessa, I felt so bad for you and your terrible experience with that hike. Sorry, but I can't believe they all ran off and left you like that. I would have been upset too. I'm glad you made it though. The views were beautiful, but gosh I can't imagine being that high. I'm scared of heights too, so I understand.

I love your pics from the Golden Mickey's.:thumbsup2 Mine are nowhere near that good. Most of them were blurry from not being able to use the flash. Can't wait to read more!

We did find out after the trip.... ;)

It was SO hard without the flash, it is especially obvious in the scenes where they moved around really quickly like in the Tarzan pictures where he was swinging around.

I am sure it will be, it is one of their flagship shows!

It is not so much that they left me but that we ended up climbing different sections. I started climbing before them and I guess they didn't see where I started climbing up so they went up a different way assuming I was already up there since they didn't see me around. It was when they got to the top and I wasn't there that they got a bit worried and started searching around for me. I was so scared and upset though, I wish I wasn't such a wimp!

Thanks on the pics, I was pleased that they turned out as well as they did.

It is such a silly assignment though, can't really call it an essay, it is a "journal". It has to be 250 words on what career we want to pursue and why. I feel like I am back in high school writing something like that. Oh well, I do what I have to do.

Just how do you solve a problem like Maria?;)

Those hiking pictures really are worth you're pain...they are SO beautiful. I don't know if I'll ever have the opportunity to go somewhere like that, so thank you for those pictures. Truly special pics!

As for the cruise, Golden Mickeys was a thumbs up for me too, but I'm also not a big Broadway show guy either...give me Diversions, a football game and a beer and I'm happy.

Can't wait to hear more. DCL=

Just a word to those that have not cruised the flagship show of DCL is Disney Dreams, which has won many cruise line awards, also they did briefly remove it from the Magic but it returned by guest demand.

After the Golden Mickeys Mom and I made our way down to Rockin Bar D to see comedian Heath Hyche. He had performed in the All Aboard: Let The Magic Begin stage show the night before and was pretty funny so Mom and I decided to go see his family show as we had time before dinner.

The bar was pretty packed, this is not the best of pictures but oh well.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2024th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D9182.jpg

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2024th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D9183.jpg

He was pretty funny although I found his skit the night before more entertaining. Perhaps his adult show was better, not sure as we never got around to going to see him again.

Once his show was over we still had a few minutes to kill before dinner so we were loitering around the atrium when we heard glass smashing. We looked over and somebody on one of the upper decks had dropped what must have been a glass over the railing and it had hit a lady in the atrium and cut her arm. It was not a serious injury and the staff reacted really quickly cleaning it up and taking care of the injury. What an idiot that person was who dropped the glass though! They are lucky that the woman was not more seriously injured.

Dinner this night was in Lumiere's which is the nicest of the three main dining rooms. I was glad that we were lucky enough to be eating here on Formal Night, it just had the right atmosphere. It wouldn't really feel like Formal Night dining in the bright and colourful Parrot Cay.

Lumiere's is a beautiful restaurant. The main chandeliers in the restaurant are glass and have a rose encased in them like in the movie. The back wall has a beautiful mosaic from Beauty and the Beast. It is just a very beautiful and elegant restaurant. I think I took pictures of the restaurant later in the trip.

This night we were dining off the Golden Mickey's menu. I don't have too many food pictures as lots of people ordered the same thing or I just forgot to get a picture, sorry!

I don't have an online menu to reference in labeling these food dishes so you will just have to guess what some of these are. ;)

For my appetizer I decided to be adventurous and I ordered the Cheese Souffle.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2024th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D9184.jpg

I did not care for it but everybody else at the table seemed to like it.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2024th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D9185.jpg

Mom's entree, some kind of fish I believe, she ordered fish pretty much every night.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2024th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D9186.jpg

None of the Featured Entrees appealed to me so I ordered from the "Lighter Fare" menu. I had a choice of Chicken, Steak and something else. I ordered the chicken.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2024th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D9187.jpg

Once I peeled the skin off the chicken was good, the rice was very tasty.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2024th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D9188.jpg

For dessert I ordered the Golden Chocolate Chocolate Award.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2024th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D9189.jpg

Yummy, yummy, yummy, yummy, yummy, yummy!

Did you get the hint that I absolutely loved my dessert? It was so good!

Mom said she didn't want anything for dessert so this is what they brought her. I knew this was coming from reading the boards but it was a total surprise for Mom and most of the table.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2024th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D9190.jpg

Our servers also brought three creme brulees to the table for everybody to share. We didn't even have to order them, they just brought them over.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2024th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D9191.jpg

Also the servers brought over two GIANT slices of cake. One for the newlyweds and one for the couple that were taking their much delayed honeymoon.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2024th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D9192.jpg

There was no way they could eat them on top of the desserts they ordered and the creme brulee so they offered to share with the table. We were all stuffed too so they ended up taking the cake back to their rooms and storing them in the little refrigerator.

Once again we didn't get out of dinner until nearly 10pm and we were completely tuckered out. So once again we skipped the adult entertainment and just went up to our room and got ready for bed. The adult game that night was "Magic Quest" which is a pretty hilarious game. You are divided into groups and it is sort of like a scavenger hunt. The host will call for such things as "a man in a bra and high heels" Well which ever group got those things up to him first won the round. I saw some pictures from that night on the Dis and one of my tablemates (honeymooner) was in them wearing a bra, lip stick and high heels. I saved it and sent it to him.

Back at the room this was waiting for us

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2024th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D9193.jpg

First Mom had to watch the news to see if Susan Boyle had won Britain's Got Talent.

It was such a relief to get out of my strappy heels. My feet were still SO swollen and the strapps and left criss-cross indents in my feet. Ouch! I rubbed some mint healing foot lotion in that we had picked up at one of the gift shops on the hopes that it would help relieve the swelling and pain a bit.

Coming up: Another day at sea and our Palo Champagne Brunch!

The Navigator for that day

Hi Rosie, my dessert was the best, talk about low-cal. I was really good on this trip, I only ordered dessert 2x, the whole time. I ate a lot of fresh fruit each day, as the fruit was so fresh and delicious, I think I had a large fruit plate each morning for breakfast, then I fixed a small plate to take back to the room for snacking on later. It was a VERY HEALTHY cruise for me.

BC TRIP CONCLUDED: Time to wrap this sucker up!

So the next morning when I woke up and strolled upstairs I was greeted with this beautiful view.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/P114.jpg

That is smoke folks, overnight the smoke from the forest fires had filled up the valley. The visibility was horrible and it just got worse as the day went on.

Normal View

http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/BC%202009/P005.jpg

http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/BC%202009/P008.jpg

Today was our rest day anyways but due to the smoke we were pretty much restricted to indoor activities anyways. When you stepped outside you almost feel the smoke around you and the smell was really strong, it wasn't a bad smell just smelt like a log fire burning.

We didn't do too much this day. During the morning the guys played squadleader again, boring!

Then we went to visit Grandma and also stopped at the grocery store to get some steaks to grill for lunch.

Dad got really angry at Alek and I because we were arguing in the store (I really don't think we were being loud) and we "embarrassed him in front of the whole town". So he screamed at us in the car and then Alek told him he was a hypocrite because Maria is louder and more embarrassing out in public. He also said a few other things to Dad that put him in his place but I can not repeat them here.....

Back at the house Dad grilled up the steaks and supposedly Maria and Angelica said there were going to have some too. Oh yeah, Maria had still not said a word to us, we were all still totally in the dark.

The steaks done Dad called Maria and Angelica up for lunch. Well what did they do? They took the steaks, put them in the oven for later and then left again to go watch tv. WTH?

We were all so confused and when Dad came into the room and asked where they were and we told him he was pissed!

Alek, Erich and I went out to eat on the balcony while Dad went down to "talk" to Maria. I think what Alek had said to Dad in the car had kinda gotten through to him and then that combined with her weird/bad behaviour made Dad lose it. We could hear him screaming at her through the window. He kept trying to get her to tell him what her problem was but she wouldn't say anything. Psycho witch.

Dad came back upstairs still with no answers but much calmer and we had a nice lunch without the annoying stepfamily.

That afternoon we watched a documentary about a team that climbed Mt Everest that was very interesting and also very sad. Personally I think it is crazy to even contemplate climbing that mountain for recreational purposes let alone scientific reasons.

I think we may have also watched some stupid Kung-Fu movie that afternoon as well.

Walking around the house I noticed that Maria had several windows open, Is she crazy? It is probably a good idea to keep the windows to your house closed when your home is engulfed in smoke from a forest fire. I was wondering why I could smell/taste the smoke while inside the house.

For dinner Dad took us down into town for KFC and to see Grandma again. We saw an "interesting" fellow in the KFC. He came in wearing no shirt and no shoes and his entire butt/boxers were hanging out of his shorts. I have seen guys with slightly drooping pants with their boxers showing but he may as well have not been wearing his shorts at all and just the boxers considering how low he was allowing them to hang.

The next day we woke up and it was even smokier than the day before so hiking was off the agenda. I was secretly glad for this as I was all hiked out for the trip.

We spent pretty much the whole day lounging around watching movies. We watched The Bourne Trilogy back to back.

We went down into town for dinner and to see Grandma, this was our last night in BC so this was the last time we would be seeing Grandma this trip. She was sad to see us go and kept asking us why we had to leave. :frown:

Back at Dad's we decided to watch Conan. What a terrible movie! We just about died from laughter when we watched the deleted scenes/bloopers though, oh my gosh, way too funny. I think Arnie had maybe 5 lines the whole movie and he was the "star".

We hung out upstairs talking for a while after the movie. Erich stole Dad's reading glasses and decided to take some pictures looking "intellectual".

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/P115.jpg

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/P116.jpg

We went out on the balcony and took a look at the moon through Dad's telescope. The smoke had turned it a strange orangish-yellow colour.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/P118.jpg

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/P119.jpg

Alek then stole the glasses from Erich

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/P120.jpg

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/P121.jpg

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/P122b.jpg

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/P124.jpg

We stayed up pretty late chatting but eventually we had to go to bed as we had to wake up at 4am as we were leaving at 5am to catch our early morning flight home.

The time to leave came, our bags were all packed in the car, we double checked our rooms to make sure we didn't leave anything behind and then we hit the road. Oh yeah, Maria and Angelica didn't bother to wake up to say goodbye, they didn't say goodbye the night before either, how nice. And Dad says that I am the rude one when it comes to interacting with them.

Luckily the smoke had cleared some overnight, I had been a bit nervous that the smoke would cause problems for our flight.

We said goodbye to Dad, and then we were on our way home. Eight hours later we were landing in Ottawa and got to tell Mom all about our interesting week. Mom got a good laugh out of it and couldn't believe the way Maria acted the last half of our trip. I was glad to be home and not even a week later I started back at school and have been super busy ever since.

Something woke me up at 5:30 on our second day at sea. Way too early to be awake! I decided to take a look outside before heading back to bed to see if I could get a sunrise shot. Here is the nest I could do at that horrific hour.

I went back to sleep after that and woke back up around 8:30. I jumped in the shower while Mom went up to Topsiders to grab us a light breakfast. We didn't want to fill up too much as we had our Palo champagne brunch that morning!

Mom brought me back some bananas, a chocolate croissant and a bowl of fresh fruit.

I decided to sit out on the verandah and enjoy the beautiful morning while Mom decided to take a stroll around the ship.

You can see my Alice travel journal on the table there. That is the notebook that I write all my trip notes in so I can remember everything for the trip report! It also comes in handy when the family is debating about how something actually happened on the trip, I can just pull out the notes and find the right day and settle the matter.

Once Mom came back to the room it was time to get dressed for brunch. Palo has a dress code, it is more relaxed for brunch than dinner but you definitely can not show up in shorts and a tank top.

On the way to brunch we stopped in at the Buena Vista Theatre to see the first part of the Behind the Scenes talk about UP! UP was getting released in theatres that Friday and we had one of the directing animators for the movie on the cruise ship with us. He was giving two behind the scenes talks about the movie during the cruise, one for just the adults and one for everybody. Unfortunately we didn't get to see much but the trailer before we had to cut out for our reservation.

We had the first brunch seating of the day which I believe was for 10:30 or 10:45.

We were the first ones to arrive at the restaurant and they weren't even seating people yet so we wandered around the area just outside the restaurant and took some pictures.

The bathroom smelled so nice! I know that is a weird thing to say about a bathroom but it is true. The soap also smelled wonderful.

Palo is the adult only restaurant on the ship, you have to be 18 or older to eat here and it requires a special reservation. You can book it online before your cruise or once you are onboard. It is very popular, especially the brunch, and the spots fill up quickly. Mom and I weren't even able to book the brunch ahead of time, we had to wait until we got to the ship and were lucky enough to score one of the spots they save for onboard booking. Palo brunch is only served on sea days, dinner is served every night though. They also have a tea service here on sea days as well. It costs $15 extra per person to eat here, that includes the tip. It is worth every penny!

Mom and I were the first to be seated and were given two choices of champagne. I chose the regular champagne and Mom decided to try the pomegranate champagne, both were really yummy! I had never had champagne before and I am now a fan!

Our waiter came over and took us on a tour of the buffet. There was a seafood table, cheese and bread table, pastry table and a dessert table. There were also several dishes that you could order from the kitchen. After our tour he set us loose to fill up our plates.

Dishes that you could order:

Several different kinds of pizza

Breakfast Items

Funny Story: The restaurant was still really empty as we made our way back to the table with our full plates. Mom went back to the table before I did so I simply went over to where she had sat down. Turns out she had sat at the wrong table! :lmao: It felt a bit off to me but I figured it must be our table as Mom was sitting there. One of the waiters had to come over and point out that we were actually supposed to be two tables over. :lmao: Mom was super embarrassed.

Mom's first plate, almost exclusively seafood

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2025th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D10030.jpg

My first plate, lots of carbs and cheeses

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2025th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D10031.jpg

Let's see if I can remember what everything was going clockwise:

Cheese Danish (powdered sugar on top)
Sticky Bun
Seasame Roll
Chocolate Croissant
Cinnamon Roll
Cheddar Cheese with Port Wine, AMAZING! SO GOOD!
Brie Cheese, also very good
Stollen bread with whipped cream and berries, delicious! Side note: You can get the stollen bread at Goofy's Galley in the morning, it is just the bread though, no whipped cream or berries.
I also had some Blue Cheese and Walnut Bread which was sinfully delicious. I would pay the $15 just to eat that, so so good!

By far my favourite things from the first plate were the cheeses and the Blue Cheese and Walnut Bread, everything was very very good though.

Our waiter stopped by while we were enjoying our meal to get our orders for the kitchen. Mom ordered some seafood dish and I couldn't decide between two of the pizzas so he had them make me a half and half.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2025th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D10032.jpg

So I got half pepperoni and half Blue Cheese and Grape

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2025th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D10033.jpg

You are probably thinking that the Blue Cheese and Grape pizza would be disgusting, it wasn't, it was delicious! I was being adventurous when I ordered it and I was delighted that it was so good.

I was full after I finished the pizza but I had to try some of the desserts, Mom also went back to the buffet and got a few more of her favourites.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2025th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D10040.jpg

I decided on a tiramisu and a cup of chocolate, both were excellent but the chocolate was so rich that I could not finish it.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2025th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D10041.jpg

As we were finishing up our meal our Dis buddy from terminal got seated beside us. We just kept running into each other!

We thanked our waiter for his excellent service and he said he was looking forward to seeing us again when I came back for dinner on Friday.

Side note: Because you pay $15 to eat here there is a bill you have to sign at the end of the meal and there is an option to leave an additional tip if you received excellent service.

Some pictures of the restaurant

We had a window table so we were able to look out at the sea as we ate.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2025th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D10042.jpg

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2025th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D10043.jpg

They pretty much had to roll us out of there we were so full!

The Palo brunch was by far the best meal we had on the trip. Definitely eat here if you ever have the chance, it is worth the extra money!

Man that food looks SOOOOOO good!!!!!! Much better than the Taco Bell I had for lunch....

Palo is one of my favorite restaurants--EVER. It's sooo good. The food is always good and the service always excellent.

Thanks for taking so many good pics of the food...that dessert table......mmmmmm......they should let you sit for an hour so you can have enough room for dessert and not have to be rolled out like everyone always seems to need to be.....

If only all our meals could have been at Palo! That would have been bad though, we would have come home 20 pounds heavier.

I was annoyed when I reviewed the pics back at the room and some were blurry, I guess I was just so hungry that I was careless with my photography, I just wanted to dig in!

We did, I asked Dad to e-mail if he ever found out what her problem was.

Nope, the 3-night does not have a sea day thus no Palo brunch. Palo dinner is an option but then you would miss out on eating in one of the three main dining rooms and the kids would not be able to eat at Palo with you. It is a tough choice to make. If you do decided to book Palo make sure to book right when your booking window opens as the reservations go fast!

Brunch and dinner are completely opposite. At dinner you order off a menu (no buffet) and there are several courses. Just like in the regular dining rooms if you can't decide on what you want they will bring you both. Palo dinner is famous for its chocolate souffle.

Okay so some of you are wondering if we ever figured out what exactly Maria's problem was. Well the day we left I told Dad to let me know if he ever found out. A few days after we got back he sent me a "lovely" e-mail detailing what exactly was pissing Maria off.

First of all it was her time of the month. I knew this when we were there as Dad had told me and initially we thought this was the reason for the tude but her behaviour went way past the typical PMS. I can say this with complete authority being female myself. ;)

Okay so here is what her problem was according to what she told Dad.

1. We were too loud and we argued.
Um, she only witnessed one argument and that was the scrambled egg debate. Again that wasn't really an argument, more like a debate and she was laughing while it was going on. As for being loud, she is just as loud or louder and really we weren't all that loud except for maybe when we were laughing during a movie.

Welcome to a typical family, we fight and we talk and we laugh and we have fun. It is not our fault she has no sense of humour.

2. Our collective poor standard of cleanliness
Um, we all showered EVERY day, TWICE a day on the days we were hiking. We brush our teeth, wash our hands, brush our hair, shave, never wore the same clothes twice unless they had been washed which is more than I can say for her, she wore the same thing almost every day.

Apparently proof of our unclean habits was that a small piece of food was found on the living room couch. 1. We never ate in the living room, always ate at the table with Dad. 2. Who says that it was one of us who tracked a piece of food into the living room, it could very well have been her or her daughter.

Oh yes, this was a major deal, while watching a movie I had the sniffles so I used a few tissues. Instead of getting up to throw them away in the other room each time I used one I placed them beside me and threw them away at the end of the movie. Oh no! Call in the hazmat team, the room needs to be detoxed!

3. We did not say thank you for anything even though she "went out of her way to make our trip pleasant"
Well that is a lie. I forgot my tooth brush so she provided me with a spare, I said thank you. She showed me how to use the washing machine so I could do a laundry for Alek, Erich and I, I said thank you. She would offer me something (usually food) I would say no thank you!
As for her going out of her way to make our trip pleasant all she did really was make enormous amounts of food that we couldn't possibly eat. She cooked enough for 15 people and there were only 6 of us so of course not everything got eaten.

4. She knows that I don't like her
Well boo hoo, I did not do anything that was rude or uncivil. Sure I wasn't buddy buddy with her but so what. I don't need to be friends with her. :headache:

So anyways that is a summary of what exactly was bugging Maria. As you can see it was just a wee bit ridiculous.

It sounds like you needed to get that out! LOL I'm glad you got it off your chest!
She sounds like she is trying to play mommy to you...which you quite obviously are not having, nor should you. And, she also sounds like she maybe was a bit jealous of your dad spending so much one on one time with you guys and giving you all of his attention. Well, too bad! You are his children and always will be! You were around before her and will always be a part of him. She can come and go and he will always have you!
Sorry...can you tell my parents are divorced and my dad has a girlfriend with two young kids and I feel like she wants him to pretend like they are his and not devote as much attention to me??!! OK...rant over!

Yes, I definitely think she was annoyed that he was spending so much time with us instead of with her. Hello! You get him all year, we get him for one week, deal with it and get over it! I really despise her!

I know it would be nice for the kids to be accepting of "new" parents, but it really is on the parents first to make the move of graciousness. After all, the kids weren't the ones getting divorced and re married. Just my opinion. Now if the step parents are gracious and are met with attitude well that may be a different story.

Hi Rosie, not only did I sit at the wrong table I drank the other person's champagne. :confused3:lmao::headache:Lessa and I were the first one's to be seated that morning, after we were given the grand tour of all the buffet stations and the entree choices (this tour took less then 10 min, as the waiter describes everything!! just thinking about it is making me hungry... when can I go back ) it seemed like 20 minutes had passed before other guests were seated, it is hard to place yourself without a landmark. I blame Lessa, it's her fault if she could only pull herself away from the cheese and bread table.

That was def.low cal!!! Good for you Beth!!!:thumbsup2

After Palo we wandered through Shutters which is the onboard photography service. They are an independent company that has a contract with Disney to provide the photographic services onboard. Their prices are astronomical so I had no plan on buying any of the pictures they took but it was fun to look anyways. I really hope that DCL eventually changes over to a photopass type system, I think many more people would buy the photos if they could view them and decide once home or if they could order a reasonably priced cd with all the pictures on them.

Shutters is also very wasteful, they print out all the pictures they take and have them on display on the walls so if you don't buy the picture the paper and ink have gone to waste. While we were onboard they were starting a computerized kiosk service where you can scan your card and your pictures would show up on screen, this was in addition to the prints that they post. Hopefully they will fully move to the computerized system as it is definitely more eco-friendly.

Anyways, Mom and I searched the walls for our photos. We had had three taken so far, our boarding picture, a picture at dinner the first night and then a picture at dinner on formal night. Shutters has photographers that go into the dining rooms and take pictures of you at your table. We however only saw them the first two nights, after that they seemed to disappear from the dining rooms. :confused3 We found our pictures and I stacked them all together so that if I wanted I could find them easily again. They all turned out nicely but not nice enough that I was willing to pay the astronomical prices they charge. Now if you are looking to get a nice family portrait I can see shelling out the money for one of these pictures as they do have nice backdrops that they set-up every night in the lobby for just that reason. Mom and I however were not interested.

After taking a look at our pictures we headed back to our room to change for the pool.

I was so sleepy probably from waking up early and then the big brunch/lunch I ate. So I lay down for a quick power nap while Mom went up on deck to scout out some lounge chairs.

I think I probably only slept for 15 minutes or so but it was nice and refreshing, just what I needed!

All ready for the pool I went on up to find Mom. I left the camera behind in the room for once, the only time on the whole vacation where I opted to just relax and not take any pictures.

Mom had once again picked some chairs on deck 10 overlooking the adult pool. I sat my stuff down and then made a beeline for the pool. The water was pretty chilly compared to the day before so I hoped out of the pool and made my way over to one of the hot tubs where I was joined by my hot tub buddies from the day before, the father and son and the grandma.

Eventually I started to feel overheated from the hot tub so back in the pool I went where I lounged around for a while just relaxing and enjoying the sun and heat. It was wonderful.

Eventually I decided to get out of the pool and went back to our chairs to lay down and read. Mom took this opportunity to head down to the pool where she met another diser that she recognized from the cruise thread, Goofy Gal. She chatted with her for a while and then came back up to lay in the sun some more.

That is pretty much how we spent our afternoon, lazing around in the pool and the sun. Absolute bliss.

Evening was starting to approach so we packed up our stuff and strolled down to the ice cream station on deck 9. The ice cream station consists of two self-serve soft serve ice cream machines that dispense chocolate, vanilla and twist. There are also toppings available for your ice cream. I think Mom and I grabbed ice cream from here almost every day, it was very yummy although nothing compared to the ice cream on Castaway Cay! ;) I am an expert at dispensing soft-serve ice cream as I worked at a Dairy Queen in high school, I even made the little curls on top of the ice cream. :cutie:

We took our ice cream back down to the room where we watched part of Ghost Town on our tv's movie channel while sitting on the verandah and getting ready for the show and dinner.

I wanted to leave the room early as I saw some characters were scheduled to be in the lobby and I wanted to get my picture with them.

So we got to the lobby nice and early and I scouted out where my character was going to be. Every evening they have character meet and greets in the lobby on deck 3 and deck 4 so you have to pay attention to where the character you want is scheduled to be as the lines can get rather lengthy if you don't plan ahead. I quickly became an expert at the character meet and greets and I was always the first or second person in line. It even became a joke between myself and another cruiser who also always showed up for the character pictures with her son, she said she knew she was in the right place if she saw me.

The characters arrive in 15 minute increments so for instance if Snow White is scheduled to arrive at 5:15 deck 3 starboard, at 5:30 Belle would arrive for pictures at deck 3 port side. So if you are first in line for Snow White as soon as you get your picture with her you can quickly cut across the lobby and jump in line for Cinderella and most likely be one of the first people in line. There are usually 4 characters that come out each night so if you want to get your picture with all of them that is the best plan to follow, be first in line for the first character to arrive and you will be at the front of the line for the rest as well. Worked for me every time.

Anyways the characters that I was going for tonight were Goofy and Max. I was maybe third in line for them. Shutters had set up a white backdrop for the photo-op. Unfortunately Mom did not zoom the camera in so it would only show the white so the picture looks kind of "goofy". Pardon the pun. ;) The shutters photo turned out great with the white background but again I wasn't about to pay $20 for it.

Thanks! I tan REALLY easily, so even just one day in the sun is enough to give me a nice dark tan. I inherited my dad's skin, Mom on the other hand, burns really quickly and turns as read as a lobster.

Wasn't Minnie sweet in her princess dress? I was so excited to see her wearing it as the navigator simply said that it was going to be Minnie Mouse, usually it indicates if there is going to be a special theme to the outfit.

I still can't get over how cute the ship is.

And your photo with Wendy is lovely :)

The ship was amazing, I just loved all the little details all over the place.

The show in the Walt Disney Theatre this night was Twice Charmed. Twice Charmed is unique to the Disney Magic, the Disney Wonder also has its own unique show, Toy Story:The Musical.

Twice Charmed is a Cinderella story, pretty similar to the movie Cinderella III except this show existed before that movie came out. I am going to put the plot in white font, if you want to read what the show is about just highlight over it. If you don't want to be spoiled on the plot just skip down to the pictures. Basic plot: Cinderella and Prince Charming get married, the Evil Stepmother is jealous and a Wicked Fairy Godfather shows up and grants her wish to turn back time. She then smashes the glass slipper that Cinderella had and then she has the Fairy Godfather shrink her and then she locks her in her room so that they don't find her. The Prince then sets up a search for his mysterious maiden from the ball but eventually gives up as he figures she does not want to be found. He holds another ball where he will pick a bride, Cinderella shows up in her maid clothes, sings a song and he sees that she is the one he has been looking for. The Evil Fairy Godfather turns up and isn't really evil after all he just likes to play tricks and he ends up turning on the step-family. The Fairy Godmother then shows up and transforms Cinderella's clothes into a wedding dress, it is also revealed that she is the King's Fairy Godmother as well. They all live happily ever after.

Mom and I chose seats in the same area that we sat the night before. Right before the show started this enormous man came and sat in the seat right in front of me. Well I got crushed! The seat was obviously broken as it reclined much farther than it should have and it totally crushed my legs. I had to sit at an awkward angle in order to free them and even then I was still pretty crammed. Unfortunately this happened right before the show so there were no other seats that I could get up and move to. Let's just say I was very uncomfortable for the nest 45 minutes!

After the show our wonderful cruise director, Brent, came out and told us in his wonderful Australian accent all about the activities going on that night and he got us pumped for our first port that we would be arriving at in the morning. :woohoo:

I really liked this show, the music was great and so was the acting. The storyline was also entertaining. Another show that is a must see!

Here are some YouTube videos I found of the show. They show the whole thing aside from the first 5 minutes or so. It was the best quality I could find and you really aren't missing much, just the beginning scene.

Lessa, you take such great pics. It was cool to see these and read about the show since we actually missed it.
Sorry to hear about the guy crushing your legs. Did he not realize it? I'm glad you enjoyed the show in spite of it.
Those seats can be kinda funny. I know they actually scared me the first few times when I didn't realize that they "reclined".

Brent is pretty awesome isn't he? I LOVED his accent, and he was a pretty fun guy. Much better than the cruise directors we had on the Wonder!

Nope he had no idea he was crushing me, at least he didn't seem to and I didn't want to embarrass him by pointing it out. The seat was obviously broken and there was nothing that could be done about it at that point so I just sucked it up. On future nights I made sure to test the chair in front of me before I sat down for good to make sure it wouldn't happen again!

I didn't really like C3 either but this show was much better. Really aside from the stepmother getting time turned back there is not that much in common between the two.

Great pics. We also really liked this show.

Thanks, I think I have to rank the three shows as 1)Disney Dreams 2) Golden Mickeys 3)Twice Charmed

Hi Lessa! I have been busily catching up on your report after my long absence from the DISboards. It has been a great read, you always have so many lovely pictures. Your haircut is cute too!

I have to say I was shocked when I first started reading the entry about 'Chip down my shirt'. I totally thought you were going to have an inappropriate run-in with one of the chipmunks  I would love some Beaches & Cream right now....I agree, best burgers at WDW!!

The story about your mom petting a stranger in the movie theater in Epcot France is hilarious :rotfl: Also, my parents are the same way at WDW - anytime a character talks to me, they are convinced that they are hitting on me  Your pictures with the Pooh characters are really sweet, I have never bothered to stop and visit with them but now I want to.

Ugh the idea of riding Barnstormer in the pouring rain....sounds unpleasant. At least that ride only seems to last for about 25 seconds.

Your parade pictures had me cracking up, especially this one:

Doesn't he look heroic?

THAT CINNAMON ROLL LOOKS AMAZING. I thought I was hallucinating when I first looked at the picture. Another thing I HAVE to try next time.

The picture of the hippo smiling is also amazing. I have never seen their teeth before. Bizarre looking!

OK I am going to post this now but I will be back to keep reading ::yes::

Reading about your mom being nervous on Expedition Everest was hilarious, it brought memories back of my last trip when I took my mom on it. I hadn't been on the ride in a couple of years and didn't remember it very well - it was a lot crazier than I remembered! My mom was screaming the whole time and was not happy!

I'm really impressed by your pictures of the Nemo musical. Mine came out all blurry, but you got some really clear ones!

I like how your mom looks totally bored on the Dinosaur ride picture. And I love the woman sitting behind you all the way to the right. She just looks annoyed with the dinosaur :rotfl:

The pictures of Japan flooding are INSANE. I have visited during many a rainy season in WDW but I have NEVER seen anything like that.

Awwww Remy is so cute! I'm bummed that I missed seeing him. I don't understand why they had him out for such a short time! The mac n cheese looks amazing too. I'm a serious mac n cheese junkie.

OK I have to step away for a moment but I'll be back.... :surfweb:

Hi Lessa! I have been busily catching up on your report after my long absence from the DISboards. It has been a great read, you always have so many lovely pictures. Your haircut is cute too!

Thanks! I hated that haircut when I first got it, it just seemed way too short! I got used to it though.

:lmao: That would have made for a very entertaining report installment.

I laughed my butt off at mom groping that stranger, it was freaking hilarious.

I loved the Pooh encounter. The characters were hilarious on their own and it was extra special as we got to share the moment with Rosie. :goodvibes

Ugh the idea of riding Barnstormer in the pouring rain....sounds unpleasant. At least that ride only seems to last for about 25 seconds.

THAT CINNAMON ROLL LOOKS AMAZING. I thought I was hallucinating when I first looked at the picture. Another thing I HAVE to try next time.

It was so yummy and it was huge!

The picture of the hippo smiling is also amazing. I have never seen their teeth before. Bizarre looking!

I was so thrilled to see such an active hippo, usually all they do is lay around at the very back of the tank so you can't get a good look at them.

 Your poor Mom

I'm really impressed by your pictures of the Nemo musical. Mine came out all blurry, but you got some really clear ones!

Most of mine came out blurry as well, it is definitely a frustrating show to photograph.

I like how your mom looks totally bored on the Dinosaur ride picture. And I love the woman sitting behind you all the way to the right. She just looks annoyed with the dinosaur :rotfl:

I crack up every time I look at that picture. Half of us are hamming it up for the camera and the other half are like Mom and just look bored/annoyed. :lmao:

The pictures of Japan flooding are INSANE. I have visited during many a rainy season in WDW but I have NEVER seen anything like that.

It was nuts, I felt sorry for the CM who was obviously some sort of manager that had to go out there and unclog the drain, talk about disgusting!

Awwww Remy is so cute! I'm bummed that I missed seeing him. I don't understand why they had him out for such a short time! The mac n cheese looks amazing too. I'm a serious mac n cheese junkie.

I am a mac and cheese junkie as well. I have recently perfected the most amazing homemade mac and cheese sauce. It is one of my favourite meals!

:rotfl:at the Skywalker-obsessed stalker at SWW!

She was so freaky!

After Twice Charmed Mom and I headed across the way to Studio Sea for "Who Wants to Be a Mousketeer?" This is basically "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" but all Disney related questions.

As you entered the room CM's handed each person a number.

Mom and I found a table in the center of the room and we were soon joined by two of our tablemates, the honeymoon couple.

The game soon started and I was excited to see that people of all ages could participate so I actually had a chance of participating this time. The person who gets to sit in the hot seat is randomly chosen based on the numbers that you were handed as you entered the room.

So they picked the first number and darn it was not me.

The lucky guy went up and sat in the hot seat and started to answer the questions. Some of these questions were really hard! Just like in the tv show you have lifelines, you have a 50:50 and an Ask the Audience. You are also allowed to take a friend up to the hot seat with you when you are chosen. I made a pact with the honeymoon couple that if one of us got called up that we would go up as a team.

While the first contestant was still in the seat we had a surprise guest!

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2025th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D10179.jpg

Donald came wandering in to say hello. He only stayed for a minute or two but it was a riot. He pretended to whisper the answer to the contestant.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2025th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D10180.jpg

The first contestant was eliminated and it was time for them to draw another number. No luck for us again.

They ended up going through three contestants throughout the duration of the scheduled game time. Several people got up and left during the game so we grabbed their numbers and hoarded them in the hopes that it would increase our chances of getting called up to the hot seats. Between the four of us I think we had about 20 numbers by the end of the game.

After the game it was time for dinner. I was really looking forward to this dinner as we were eating in Animator's Palate which is a very special restaurant and tonight was the show dinner.

At the start of the meal the whole restaurant is in black and white and there are pictures from various Disney movies all around the restaurant. As the meal goes on the room starts to light up in colour. Finally around the time that dessert is served you will notice that all the servers disappear from the room while a video starts to play displaying classic Disney animated moments then Sorcerer Mickey comes out to the Fantasmic music leading all the servers who have traded in their black and white vests for new colourful vests and Mickey leads them in a parade as the walls and pictures all burst into colour. It is really cool and so much fun to watch.

Here is a YouTube video I found if you want to see how this all happens

Dinner this night was excellent and I enjoyed every dish I ordered, especially the Chocolate and Peanut Butter Pie! The show was also very entertaining and it was a lot of fun looking around the restaurant and keeping an eye out for the pictures as they lit up in colour.

We had a very early morning the next day so once again we went straight for bed after dinner instead of heading over to the "late night" adult entertainment.

http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2025th%20-%20Sea%20Day/D10211.jpg

As I got ready for bed that night I noticed that my throat was feeling a bit sore.... I didn't think much of it, just thought that I was probably a bit dehydrated, so I chugged down some water before falling asleep confident that it would be all better in the morning....

Coming up: A sunrise at sea and we arrived at our first port of call Tortola: British Virgin Islands!

I really am seeing the difference between a Disney Cruise and a RCCL.
The food alone is 10 times better
and the entertainment.
Hope you don't wait too long to tell us about Tortola: British Virgin Islands,

Well I can't chime in about which is better as Disney is all I know.

I totally agree with you on that. Peanut butter and chocolate when combined is the food of the gods. Sinfully delicious!

I was disappointed I didn't get to play, usually I am way too shy to participate in something like that and be the center of attention but I would have rocked that game and it helped to know that I would have had a partner to go up with me in case I didn't know the answer to something. ;)

I didn't want to say anything to the man because I thought it would embarrass him, if it had been a smaller person I might have... I am very sensitive about my weight and if somebody had said something like that to me I would have been mortified even knowing that it was not my fault and was due to the broken chair.

Looks like a very fun evening! And the chocolate peanut butter pie would be my choice too. :thumbsup2

If there is something peanut butter and chocolate on the menu you can be sure that I am going to order it.

I'm not sure, there were two different prizes, I think one of them may have been a pin. Don't quote me on that!

Hey Lessa! I am all caught up on your trip report now. I went on a Disney Cruise years ago but it was on the Wonder, so it's really interesting to read about your experience on the Magic. I don't know much about that ship at all. I am now really regretting not trying Palo's, that restaurant (the desserts especially) look amazing. I can't wait to read your take on Castaway Cay :cloud9:

I liked reading your little side-report too about Vernon. The houses in your dad's neighborhood really are lovely, the prices are a bit much for me too though  And ugh, I am with you on hiking! I love the views but I hate the feeling of trying to trudge up some huge rocky mountain. I had a similar experience when I went with two friends to Arizona, they wanted to run up every single mountain we came across and many times I ended up far behind them in tears because I just couldn't walk up any more steep hills. Yuck, I definitely avoid hiking now!

I'm pretty sure that the Wonder and Magic are identical structurally, the difference is mostly in the entertainment available. The Magic simply has more variety as it does the longer sailings.
