I am cracking up at the butt pictures. Funny stuff. The pic of you and your mom was really nice!
Thanks! Lots more funny coming up.

Toledo Visit
As we got near the border we got a call from our Aunt Christine, she was checking to see how far out we were as our cousins were anxious to see us and they had thought we would have arrived already. We were only an hour away at that point, about to cross the border in Windsor.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Toledo%202009/D030.jpg
No lines at the border which was surprising as it was a long weekend in Canada.
To our delight the highway construction was complete in Detroit so we did not have to drive through the scary and ghetto Mexicantown to get to the highway.
Once we got to Toledo Mom got lost as per usual. She grew up in the city yet she can never remember which turnoff to take on the highway. She took the wrong turn and we ended up going over this funky new bridge that was completed in the last year or so.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Toledo%202009/D032.jpg
We turned around and made our way to the correct turn-off and then got off the highway. We made a stop at Kroger to pick up steaks to barbeque for dinner. We are always amazed about how cheap food is in the States. In fact pretty much everything is much cheaper in the States (except for tuition).
We took some pictures in the grocery store of strange/cool American products to show our Canadian friends.
I spotted this and laughed, seriously, Disney dog food!???
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Toledo%202009/D040.jpg
Food in hand we made our way to our Uncle Jim's. He is our mom's brother.
Our cousins Andrew and Caroline were anxious to show us the Moutain Dew pop can tower they were making in the basement.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Toledo%202009/D045.jpg
We laughed because Erich does the exact same thing but with apple juice cans.
We hung out in the backyard while Uncle Jim grilled the steaks.

I don't think we went to sleep until 2am that morning. I had been awake since 10pm the night before. That is 26 hours with no sleep, why does this always happen to me on vacation?

The next morning Uncle Jim went off to work and we went out to breakfast at IHOP with the cousins and Aunt Christine.

Erich's belly shot on Day 2
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Toledo%202009/D093.jpg
He wanted to get a shot each day of his expanding gut as he gorged himself on vacation.
After breakfast we dropped Aunt Christine off at home and continued on to the mall with the cousins.
We started heading into the Disney Store when Caroline stopped us and said she didn't want to go in as it was "just for kids". I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear this coming from a blood relative. We knew we had to correct this ASAP so we dragged her into the store with us.
After the mall we decided to head to Penguin! Yum yum! Time to get my Smurf ice cream.
Ottawa Hills (a Toledo neighbourhood) had these lovely flower baskets hanging from each light post.

Our first Penguin stop of the trip.
Alek, Erich and I all got a Smurf

Alek and Erich decided to annoy me by pretending that they did not like the Smurf ice cream.

Our family has been going to Penguin since my Mom was a little girl. In fact our family went to Penguin on the day my Aunt and Uncle got married, a brief stop on the way to the reception after the wedding. The whole wedding party pulled up in the limos and got out and enjoyed some ice cream in their wedding finery.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Toledo%202009/D104.jpg
After Penguin we had to drop the cousins off at home and then we made our way over to the grandparents house where we would be staying for the rest of the trip.

We spent a few hours at their house, Mom had me show them some pictures from our cruise and then we all went back over to Uncle Jim's house for a family dinner.
Grandma and Grandpa drove over separately as they would not be staying as long as us.
On the drive over a crazy storm started (RAIN CURSE). The rain came down like crazy and then the hail started, the lightening was so loud! A huge tree branch in our uncle's neighbourhood got hit by lightening.
Now it would have been a good idea for us to just wait in the car for the rain to let up but Erich was impatient so we made a mad dash to the front door of the house and got totally drenched.
Grandma and Grandpa pulled up after us. Grandpa got out an umbrella and covered Grandma on the walk to the house. She then took the umbrella and left him standing in the rain. Poor grandpa! :sad2:
Aunt Christine handed us all towels to dry off while the cousins laughed hysterically at us.
Their poor cat Rascal also got caught in the rain storm, poor kitty, he was absolutely drenched.
We sat around chatting for awhile.

For dinner we ordered up pizza and Aunt Christine made cheesy pasta, salad and brushetta also. Erich decided it would be a brilliant idea to combine all of these and make a "pizza sandwich". It looked disgusting but was also very funny.

After the grandparents left we all sat down for a game of Flinch. It was hilarious as we had to improvise with the rules as the card deck is only large enough for 5 people to play, not 6.
We didn't stay too late that night, went back to the grandparents around 9pm.
I hung out in the family room with Alek and Erich for awhile, we watched South Park and Erich fell asleep at some point and started snoring. It was so loud! We couldn't help but record it to show him in the morning.

The next morning I enjoyed a yummy breakfast of cinnamon rolls from Wixey Bakery. Another family tradition, our family has been going to this bakery for as long as I can remember. Their cinnamon rolls are delicious! I did notice they were skipping on the icing a bit though.
After breakfast we made our big shopping trip to the grocery store (Meijers) with Grandma tagging along.
This store didn't have nearly as many funny/strange products as the Kroger even though it was a much bigger store.
We did spot Jolly Rancher pop though we didn't buy any.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Toledo%202009/D133.jpg
Most of our purchases ended up being Pop, and a lot of it was stuff that we were buying for people back in Canada. All I bought was some Cherry Pomegranate Crystal Light, delicious!
We drove around a bit, not sure what exactly Mom and Grandma were looking for but they never found it. We did spot this funny sign though, Toledo always has the oddest traffic signs.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Toledo%202009/D136.jpg
For lunch Grandpa took us out to a Mexican restaurant and we also drove through the neighbourhood where he grew up.
I had a chicken quaesadilla for lunch and it was huge! Erich and Mom had to help me finish it off. It was very good though.
Oh yeah, it also rained for while (RAIN CURSE). The original plan for this day was for us to go to Cedar Point/Soak City with the cousins but we had put it off a day hoping that the weather would improve.
After we got back from our Mexican lunch Grandpa went for a nap and Mom and Grandma went through some family history documents. Alek, Erich and I decided to head down the street to a park/playground that we have enjoyed since we were little.
Walking down the street I saw these enormous lilies, I have never seen them grow that high before!
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Toledo%202009/D137.jpg
There was the cutest dog at the playground, he was very old and did not move very quickly.

On the way back we spotted a face on a tree. Cool or creepy you decide....
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Toledo%202009/D154.jpg
Then we saw another one, it didn't blend with the tree as well though.

Once we got back from the park the grandparents were still resting so we gave Andrew and Caroline a call and told them we would come and pick them up for some mini-golf. They had been waiting around at home all day waiting for our call.
The place we went was pretty cheap. $5 each for mini-golf and then they also had go-karts which was also $5.
Mini-golf took a long time to play with 6 of us. I felt bad for the group behind us and they were always waiting for us to finish up.

The course had these areas where water was supposed to run through but I guess they had it turned off that way. We always had to have somebody standing "defense" when we were near these areas in case the balls got hit too hard as the course charges a $10 lost ball fee.
Caroline ending up beating us all by 15 strokes!

After go-karting we went to...... Penguin!
I once again got a Smurf, no idea what the others got. It was delicious as always.
We had to make an emergency stop for Erich on the way back to the cousins house.
While waiting for him we spotted this cool looking car parked at the Pizza Hut.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Toledo%202009/D190.jpg
We dropped the cousins off at home, finalized our plans for the next day with Aunt Christine and then headed back to the grandparents. The dinner plan that night was Little Caesars, we went back to their house first to make sure that grandma wasn't going to surprise us with dinner even though she had said she wasn't making anything.
She indeed had not made anything for dinner and she and Grandpa were actually all dressed for bed so I took Alek and Erich out to pick up our Little Ceasars. That night we watched Dumb and Dumber or Wayne's World. Don't remember which one though we watched both at some point on the trip.
I had to drug myself to sleep that night as we were waking up early the next morning as we were headed to Cedar Point/Soak City!

I woke up to the lovely sound of my cell phone alarm going off at 6:30. I was grumpy about getting up so early but today was my birthday! We had lots of fun planned. We were scheduled to be at the cousins house for 8am where we would all pile into Aunt Christine's mini-van and make the one hour drive down to Sandusky, Ohio. We were going to spend the day at Soak City which is the water park at Cedar Point. Cedar Point itself was vetoed as Erich, Mom and Andrew do not like roller coasters.
I once again enjoyed a cinnamon roll for breakfast before we headed out.
Aunt Christine has the coolest mini-van! It is a Stow-N-Go van with two sliding doors which close automatically, the windows in the back roll down, they have Sirius radio and a DVD system built in. Very nice!
Caroline had brought along Full House DVD's for us to watch on the way down.
I was a bit sad that we were not going to Cedar Point as the coasters came into view but the water park would be lots of fun too!

First order of business was to rent some lockers and get changed. There wasn't enough room in our locker for all our stuff thanks to Alek and Erich's sneakers so Mom and I had to stow our purses in Aunt Christine's locker.

This red coaster weaved around the water park.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Toledo%202009/D204.jpg
I stowed the camera in the locker and then we were off to our first slide! Mom and Aunt Christine went to hang out by the wave pool and gave us instructions to come get them once we were ready for the lazy river.
Since we were there right near park opening there were no lines for the slides yet.
Alek and Erich amused the lifeguards with all their "screaming" on the slides.
One slide that I went down makes you go airborn for about a second and also messed with my suit, I nearly gave everybody at the bottom a show. :scared1:
There is also a family raft slide but only 4 people can fit in a raft so Alek, Erich and Andrew rode together and I rode with Caroline.
After we had done all the slides we went over to the wave pool to retrieve the "adults" as it was time for the Lazy River. Mom decided not to go but Aunt Christine tagged along. Alek, Erich, Andrew and Caroline raced each other through the river. My poor cousins are getting corrupted by my brothers. I floated along and chatted with Aunt Christine. They all lapped us eventually and then we all floated along together.
After the lazy river we went into the wave pool for a bit and then it was lunch time. We decided to grab Subway which was of course horrendously expensive and had very limited options. It was still cheaper than the other food offerings though.
After lunch I grabbed the camera again so I could get some pictures of the park.
Another gut shot

I think by far the favourite attraction at the water park was The Lilypads. The attempted to cross these at least five times throughout the day. It was hilarious!

We took a break from the Lily Pads and they decided to go on the raft ride again. I didn't go on and instead waited at the bottom so I could catch them coming down on camera. Aunt Christine had found us at this point so we waited together.

I went and dropped the camera off with Mom and then we went to ride some more slides and Aunt Christine came along with us.
I only ended going on once as I was feeling rather light-headed so I though it best if I went and relaxed on a lounge chair for a while.
Mom and Aunt Christine went off to float around on the Lazy River so I had some alone time which is rare when visiting Toledo as Caroline usually sticks to me like glue.

There was some excitement in the wave pool at one point. Everybody in the pool stopped moving and a lifeguard dived in and was in the deep end for about 5 minutes. I guess everything turned out to be okay as I didn't see them bring anybody out and they turned the waves back on.
Everybody came back to our chairs eventually and it was decided that we should head out. It was just after 3pm and we had dinner reservations in Toledo for 6:30.
They wanted to have one last go on the lilypads before we left.

Erich and Caroline finally made it all the way across!
Here's a video of them epically failing on the Lilypads earlier in the day. The one kid I caught on tape was amazing though, he made it look easy which it definitely was not!

We all got majorly burnt as well although Erich was definitely the worst off. Yesterday morning when he woke up he had sunburn blisters on his shoulders, this was two days after he got the initial burn. Ouch!

Alek said that being surrounded by the coasters all day made him really want to go to Cedar Point, maybe next year!
As we were leaving the Cedar Point area we saw something amazing and made Aunt Christine pull over so we could get a picture.
It was the Oscar Meyer Weiner Mobile!

Once back in Toledo we went back over to the Grandparents house to get ready for my birthday dinner. We had a reservation at my fav Toledo restaurnt, Biaggi's.
Grandma and Grandpa were coming too but they drove over separately. We were a bit early so we browsed around the neighbouring bookstore before heading over. Once it was closer to 6:30 we went over and this is where things went a bit sour. Grandma supposedly can not stay in places that are "too loud" and apparently this restaurant was too loud for her so she decided that she would just go sit in the car while Grandpa stayed and ate dinner with us. I don't know why she didn't just drive home and then we could have taken Grandpa back with us. Anyways.... The restaurant was also late in seating us. The reservation was for 6:30 but they didn't seat us closer to 7.
The food was wonderful as always though and we all had a great time together. Alek, Erich, Andrew and Caroline had fun drawing on the paper the was covering the tablecloth.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Toledo%202009/D322.jpg
Right as we were paying the bill Grandma came back into the restaurant all upset at Grandpa about how long it was taking. So he got up and they left, we though they were going to meet us at Penguin but they never showed up. So anyways Grandma was upset at Grandpa which made Mom upset. This type of drama almost always happens with Grandma when we are in Toledo. It's not an official vacation without Grandma drama.
Anyways after our delicious dinner we all made our way over to Penguin for our third visit of the trip!
Can you guess what I had? ;)
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Toledo%202009/D323.jpg
We were there for almost 2 hours just talking and laughing. We left as they were starting to close up for the night so close to 10pm.

Well all hugged goodbye and said we would see them next summer. Caroline was all excited because it was briefly mentioned that we should do WDW together in 5 years as a graduation celebration for her (high school) and me (Nursing school). Who knows if that will actually happen though.
Back at the grandparents we packed up all our stuff so we wouldn't have to do it in the morning and we got a surprise visit from Uncle Jim and the family! They had forgotten to give me my birthday card so they drove over to deliver it. So we all hugged goodbye again and then went to bed.
We left Toledo at 5am and got back home just after 1pm. It was a fantastic trip aside from the grandma drama that last night. Hope you enjoyed my mini-TR!

Yeah no kidding, poor Erich has called in sick to work for the rest of the week as he can't lift his arms past a certain point due to the burn blisters. I barely burnt and it is already pretty faded, I am lucky that way. I am sure he has learned his lesson though.

We woke up early again, I wanted to make a run to the drug store to pick up some new sunscreen before heading to Hollywood Studios. I decided to get Hawaiian Tropic since I seem to now be allergic to Coppertone. You all will be happy to know that the Hawaiian Tropic worked great and didn't give me a single rash.
All stocked up on sunscreen we were off to Hollywood Studios. I was excited to ride Toy Story Mania again!
We were there fairly early and were second in line at the turnstyles behind a dad who had come to the park by himself. Turns out that he had missed riding Toy Story the other day so he had left his family sleeping in the hotel so he could come over and squeeze in a ride. :lmao: I think we scared him with all our talk of the insane mad dash to Toy Story that the whole park makes right at rope drop.
All the signage for Star Wars Weekends was up, we were planning on attending opening day the next day (our last day at WDW before the cruise!). I was so excited!

As soon as the rope dropped we were off! I was speed walking to Toy Story Mania, tickets in hand. I was determined to get to those fast pass machines as quickly as possible and then into the stand-by line. I was fairly successful and there were only a few people in front of me at the machines and then Mom and I jumped in line.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2021st%20-%20Hollywood%20Studios/D6020.jpg
Didn't have much time to take pictures as we pretty much got to walk right through the queue and onto the ride. Waited maybe 5 minutes.
Despite my best efforts Mom continued her winning streak and beat me. At least I always win on Buzz!
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2021st%20-%20Hollywood%20Studios/D6022.jpg
Mom was wearing her new mouse ears this morning but they were hurting her head so she took them off after only 15 minutes or so. I would have worn them but I think I would have looked strange with two pairs of ears on. ;)
After Toy Story we had about an hour until our fast passes were good so we headed down to Hollywood Boulevard so that I could ride the thrill rides.
We stopped for a photopass picture along the way.

Sigh, Mom really doesn't know how to do fake scared for pictures. Oh well not like I am that great at it either.
So I went off to ride Rock N' Roller Coaster by myself as Mom was too chicken to try it. Not sure what Mom did while I was gone, probably browsed the shops.
The single rider line wasn't open so I had to get in the regular stand-by line, the posted wait time was 20 minutes so I didn't mind.

I ended up riding with another single rider. It was her first time on the ride and she was very nervous. She kept second guessing whether she wanted to get on the ride or not and she was afraid that she would get sick. I talked her through it though and she ended up loving it.
My very blurry ride photo, they switched the photos off the screen so quickly that I didn't have a chance to try and take it again.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2021st%20-%20Hollywood%20Studios/D6026.jpg
Next I headed over to Tower of Terror where the posted wait time was also 20 minutes. The line however was all the way to the entrance sign so I knew that the wait had to be much longer than that. I didn't want to keep Mom waiting so I decided to skip it for now.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2021st%20-%20Hollywood%20Studios/D6027.jpg
I met back up with Mom and we started to make our way back over to Toy Story. First we stopped at a bakery on the corner of Sunset and Hollywood. Mom bought me a yummy cookie there and got one for herself as well. The cookies there are pricey! I think Mom paid $5 for two cookies!

After Toy Story Mom and I paused to think about what we wanted to do next. We didn't have any set plans for the day other than our lunch ADR and Fantasmic that evening. We decided to just walk and go do things as we came to them. First up was a picture with Price Caspian! We did this last year and made the mistake of continuing on to the "attraction" afterwards. Well this year I made sure to tell the CM that we would be coming back through the line after getting our picture as we didn't want to go through the agony. He thought this was hilarious and laughed along with me.
We didn't have to wait long to see Caspian. He really liked my mouse ears and asked me if I was acquainted with Reepicheep. We then blathered on about Narnia and if I had ever been and he invited me to come visit some time. I don't remember our exact conversation but I do remember that the character handler and photographer were laughing.

We went over to the Animation Building after the show was over as it was once again raining outside. First we sat through the little animation movie with Mushu and watched a preview for UP. Then we went further into the building to see what characters were out.
Can't wait for this to come out!

Sorcerer Mickey was also out and had no line so we went on over. He had to take a break first though so we waited and chatted with the handler and photographer who were very friendly and nice.
I may have gotten all the attention from Caspian but Mom stole the show with Mickey.

After our picture with Mickey Mom and I decided to play with some of the interactive games that they have set-up in the Animation building. First thing we did was the voice acting game where you get to sing a line from a movie and they insert it in and you can also voice-act a character and they insert that in. Let's just say Mom and I will never have a career in voice acting!
Next we took the which character are you quiz.
Here is Mom's result:
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2021st%20-%20Hollywood%20Studios/D6089.jpg
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2021st%20-%20Hollywood%20Studios/D6090.jpg
And my result:
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2021st%20-%20Hollywood%20Studios/D6091.jpg
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2021st%20-%20Hollywood%20Studios/D6092.jpg
Bwahaha! I believe that result came about as I chose that I would "like to eat nice people for breakfast" vs the other option which was "have breakfast with nice people".
Next I begged Mom to try the Animation Academy. Normally I can't draw even a stick figure but I really wanted to try this.
The drawing class was a lot of fun! At the beginning I got a bit frustrated but I was pretty pleased with my end result, Mom threw hers away but not before I grabbed a picture!
My Mickey:

Having done pretty much everything there was to do in the Animation building we decided to be brave and venture outside and see what the weather was doing. Well I am delighted to report that it was sunny!
We decided to make our way down to see Beauty and the Beast. We stopped for some photopass pictures on the way.

The photographer had us pose for a special picture, he wouldn't tell us what it was as he wanted it to be a surprise. I didn't ruin his fun by telling him I already knew.

The Beauty and the Beast theatre wasn't open yet so we waited outside. I told Mom I was going to go grab a fastpass for Tower of Terror and also find something to snack on. Along the way I had a photographer take this picture of me which I use as my Facebook profile picture.

I saw that they were letting people into Beauty and the Beast so I made my way back over. Mom and I got seats right in the middle, three rows back. This is the closest we have ever sat.
I don't think the theatre even filled all the way for that performance, never seen that happen either.
A few pictures from the show. I have many more of course but well there is that darn image limit.

Hi Lessa,
Your trip report caught my eye because my mom and I also went on a land & sea trip a month ago! We were only at WDW for 4 nights and a 4 night cruise though. I can't wait for you to get to the cruise part. We had an awesome time and I bet you guys did too!
I just had to comment on the Mickey drawings. My mom and I went to an animation class on the cruise (I think we were the only adults there without kids, but oh, well). We did Mickey and Donald Duck. My mom tossed her drawings right away also. In fact, she refused to even finish Donald halfway through because she said it was so bad! :lmao: Mine came out okay, but Donald was hard! Plus, they gave us markers and not pencils which meant no erasing! :scared1:
I'm really enjoying the report - keep it up!! :thumbsup2

Welcome! Land and Sea trips are so fun!
We did the animation class onboard as well, drew Mickey and Goofy. How strange that they gave you markers, we had pencils with erasers. :confused3 I guess the no erasing part is true to what they teach at the animation academy in Hollywood Studios. ;)
Hope you stick around for more! I only have one more park day to write about after this and then on to the cruise!

The water park is not inside Cedar Point but is separate and right next to it. There is a little walkway between the two that has some shops/restuarants and leads to a back entrance to Cedar Point.

Once Beauty and the Beast was over it was time for us to hustle. We had an ADR at Sci-Fi in about 15 minutes time that we had to get to. I of course did have to pause a few times to snap some pictures as the Streetmosphere performers were out in full force!

Also had to pause and get a picture with one of the Star Wars backdrops that had already been set-up.

We arrived right on time for our ADR, we ended having to wait 20 minutes or so to be seated which was rather annoying as for pretty much that whole 20 minutes they kept calling out for a party that had obviously left. How about seating the people that are actually there and hungry!
We did get seated eventually though, we were in the backseat of one of the cars.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2021st%20-%20Hollywood%20Studios/D6227.jpg
First thing to do was order our drinks. I of course had to get the Oreo milkshake, delicious! My first job as a teen was at an ice cream shop and I used to make cookies and cream milkshakes all the time, simply the best!
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2021st%20-%20Hollywood%20Studios/D6230.jpg
Mom ordered the Italian Grilled Chicken Sandwich - With bruschetta topping served on a Kaiser Roll with cucumber-melon salad or fries.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2021st%20-%20Hollywood%20Studios/D6231.jpg
She said it was very good.
I of course ordered the cheeseburger like a good Diser. It was also very good!
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2021st%20-%20Hollywood%20Studios/D6232.jpg
I was very tempted to order the cheesecake for dessert as the pictures I see always make it look so good. I was stuffed from my burger though and knew that I would not be able to handle it.

Our waitress offered to take some pictures of us in the car which was very nice of her, I didn't even have to ask her.

Overall I give Sci-Fi two thumbs up and I would definitely eat here again. The food was good, the atmosphere was great and the movie clips were very entertaining. I think Alek and Erich would probably enjoy it too. Word to the wise, it gets pretty chilly in there with the AC so it might be a good idea to bring a light sweater.
After lunch we had no definite plans, just wander and do whatever, whenever.
We were walking past Star Tours and there was no wait so we decided to take a ride.
When we were exiting the ride through the dump shop a CM beckoned us over to this photo area set up in the store. They take a picture of your face and superimpose it over that of a Star Wars character on a poster. It is free to try so Mom and I said "Why not!"
Well lets just say that is the best Mom and I have ever looked! :lmao: I got to be Padme in her white outfit with her stomach exposed from Episode II, I looked good! Mom got to be some red Jedi chick, she also looked really good. We were so pleased with the picture but it was really expensive to buy, something like $30+ so despite how good we looked we passed on buying it. I kinda regret that now, oh well. If they made it more affordable I am sure tons of people would buy them.
Outside the shop there was a photopass photographer at the Star Wars speeder from Episode VI, sorry I don't know the technical name for this thing, I am sure one of the Star Wars nerds out there can tell me. ;) Well I decided to get my picture on it as I was sure that it would be swamped with people when we came back the next day for Star Wars Weekend.
Turns out it was a good thing I had the picture taken this day as the next day that area was used to get pictures with Chewbacca and the Ewoks.

Mom and I looked at the Times Guide and decided that we would go see the next and final showing for the day of Lights, Motor, Action. We still had quite a bit of time so we walked slowly down the Streets of America and paused for some photopass pictures.
The wind was doing crazy things to Mom's hair, I think it is hilarious!

Is the dis slow lately or have I lost all my readers because I am taking so long to get to the cruise portion? :confused3;)
No way have you lost your readers! I am following along faithfully!!! Though I can't wait til you get to the cruise portion, I am definitely loving the WDW portion as well. And the mini-TR to Ohio was great also. It was really cool to see some pics of Cedar Point, as I've always heard lots about it.
I'm glad that you liked Sci-Fi, especially since we have a dinner ADR there for our trip next month!! And I have to agree on your favorite photopass pic in your last update. With the wind blowing like it was, it definitely makes the pic realistic!! As always, can't wait for more!:thumbsup2

Hi Lessa! I'm just trying to catch up :rolleyes1 Wonderful updates - your installments are great, lots of pictures and enough detail to let us all sort of relive it with you :goodvibes
Love all the streetmosphere - so much fun!
Sooooo glad to see a good review of SciFi - I booked a dinner ADR there at Grumpy's request.
If the picture at the SW dump shop is free, why do they mess it up by asking $30 for the poster?! :headache:
You and your mom look all "come hither" with that windblown hair thing going on
We all enjoyed LMA - action-packed and lots of neat effects :thumbsup2
Sorry in advance for you having to deal with "the most negative person on the planet" Why do those people even go to WDW?

very good last few chapters, i like the baloon photo on the streets.
that rollercoaster is the magnum that goes by the water park...when they first put in the water park, it was only on the one side of the magnum, then they expanded it onto the otherside.
the campground used to come right up next to the rollercoaster, it was cool to be camping so close to it back in the day.
when that ride came out everyone thought it was huge at just over 200 feet, now you get the other huge ones there over300 for the millenium and over 420 for the dragster that the magnum looks like a childs ride compaired to them, but still a blast.
you really need to hit the park next time, there is still stuff for them to do if they dont like rollercoasters, but dont let them hold you back next time.
we r thinking about going next year for a few days to cedar point to camp.

It was getting close enough to show time that we figured we better head back and get in line, I also needed to get off my feet.
Well it was while we were in the queue that Mom and I had the immense "pleasure" of meeting the most negative girl on the planet. Mom has this need to strike up conservation with every stranger she meets so while we were waiting to get let into the seating area Mom started to chat with the girl next to her in line. Turns out she was Canadian and a recent graduate and had decided to take a solo trip down to WDW to celebrate. Well this girl proceeded to go on a huge rant about everything that was wrong with her local government, our national government and the world at large. Trying to steer her away from all the negative political talk we discussed our respective trips to WDW and she didn't have anything positive to say about that either. By this point I was wishing that they would let us into the seating area already so I could escape this girl. :headache: I can be a pretty negative person but wow this girl was ridiculous.
Eventually they did start to let us in and for a while she followed right behind us, I was afraid that she was going to try and sit with us during the show! :scared1: Thankfully we lost her in the crowd and Mom and I were able to grab some decent seats far far away from her.

Mom and I both thought the show was only "okay". Just not our cup of tea and we would not go out of our way to see it again unless we were traveling with somebody who wanted to see it. It was neat though seeing how some of the stunts are done.
It was crazy leaving that stadium, so many people all trying to get through the same exit.
Mom and I looked at the Times Guide and decided that we would hoof it over to Indiana Jones and catch the last show of the day. It was a gamble as the show was scheduled to start very soon so we were not sure that there would even be any seating left.
On the way over we saw these guys performing, didn't stop to listen though.

The show over I was very pleased with our park touring skills, we had accomplished what many find it so difficult to do, we had seen the three major shows in the park in one day. Well except for Playhouse Disney but I don't count that.
Our last set of fastpasses for Toy Story Mania was available to be used now so we went back to play one last time that day.
Well as I am sure you guessed, Mom whopped my butt again.

Coming up: Will the good weather hold or will we be rained out of Fantasmic for the second year in a row?

I enjoy all the shows at MGM but they have been there forever! I think that if they want to keep the park fresh for people they need to add new shows and change things up. Not everybody is willing to go see Beauty and the Beast and Indy a bazillion times. I am ready to see something new!

Gosh! I had a couple of days to catch up on! Ready for more now! Your pix of Beauty and the Beast are GREAT! I want to see that show when we go in Dec...never saw it yet!! Hope we can get great seats like those! LOL My first job was in an ice cream parlor also!!! I like my milkshakes with peanut butter swirl ice cream! I am very impressed that you got all those shows in one visit to DHS...another goal of mine for this trip!

You will get a good view no matter where you sit at Beauty and the Beast. We have sat at the back and still enjoyed the show. If you want seats up close plan to get there 30 minutes or so before the show starts.
Yum, peanut butter swirl.

After our ride on Toy Story we had pretty much done everything that we wanted to do in the park, all that was left was Fantasmic. It was still at least 2 hours before the first showing but we decided to go over and wait in line anyways. That way we would be assured a good seat of our choice.
When we arrived they were holding everybody back at the street, the CM's were telling everybody that the theatre would be opened at 7:30. Well the waiting crowd kept getting bigger and bigger so eventually they had to drop the rope and allow us all to move further into the stadium pathway to wait as we were all blocking the traffic out on the "street". It was crazy crowded but that is what I was expecting so was not surprised. While waiting to be let in we chatted with a family from Philadelphia, the father really wanted to see Fantasmic but the mother was not so sure that the wait was worth it. We chatted with them about how great the show was and about other things as well to pass the time.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2021st%20-%20Hollywood%20Studios/D6376.jpg
Eventually the rope dropped and we were allowed to enter the stadium. I headed straight to the middle section, back row. These are the best seats in the house. If you don't believe me this is where they have the VIP seating. ;)
It was starting to sprinkle so we pulled on our ponchos and everybody in the stadium did the same. I was just hoping and praying that the show would not get canceled as we got rained out from seeing it last summer. We chatted with the family seated in the row in front of us. They were a young family from Ohio and this was their first trip. They had a bit of a problem as they only had 3 ponchos and there were four of them. I suggested that they should seat their youngest (around 5 years old she looked) on one of their laps under the poncho and she could use one of the arm flaps to put her head through and they still would both be completely covered. It worked like a charm and they were all covered when it started to pour.
The stadium was completely packed and we all continued to sit there in the pouring rain wearing our ponchos hoping that the rain would stop and the show would go on. Every ten minutes there would be an announcement welcoming us to Fantasmic, giving a countdown until showtime and then a warning that the show could be delayed or canceled due to inclement weather.
The rain continued to beat down, I was almost certain that the show was going to be canceled when magically the rain slowed to a drizzle 10 minutes before showtime. 9pm came and the show did not start, I was dreading the announcement saying it was canceled but lo and behold it was only delayed by 5 minutes! Hurray!
By the time the show started the rain had completely stopped so we were able to enjoy the show without the nasty rain putting a damper on things.

Being the complete girly girl that I am my favourite part of the show is the Princess montage. Here's a brief video I took.
Fantasmic -Princesses (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07rbJCyp4oM)
Unfortunately there was a slight wind that night which sort of messed with the water screen effects but it did not detract from my enjoyment of the show. It is still my favourite nighttime show.
At the end of the show we asked the Ohio family how they liked it and they loved it! The mother said that she cried it was so good and they were so glad that they waited out the rain and stayed for the show. I asked the little boy what his favourite part was and his response was "When Mickey won!" :lmao: I thought for sure he was going to say the dragon as he kept asking me before the show if there was going to be a dragon.
We slowly exited the theatre and made our way towards the exit. I attempted a few night shots along the way.

It was so nice falling into bed that night. We had a great but long day and except for the end and a bit early in the day it was pretty much rain free! I set the alarm to go off early the next morning. It was going to be our last park day before leaving for the cruise and we were heading to opening day of Star Wars Weekends! The inner geek in me was very very excited.

I'm so glad you didn't get rained out of Fantasmic!! I won't be seeing it when I go. I just don't want to wait so long for good seats like that and then have my son potentially get scared or fussy and then I have to leave anyway! So maybe another time if I can go by myself or if it were still around when he's older!! But maybe they'll just keep all the shows in DHS forever since they know that's your favorite part of the park...the same shows! ;)

Great update. So glad to hear that despite the crowds and rain you still got to see Fantastmic. And I agree, the middle section back row. The first time I saw the show that's where I sat and it was a fantastic view. The CMs told us we had some of the best seats and indeed they were.

I was very relieved that the show went on. When the rain started to come down hard lots of people got up and left but I told Mom that I was determined to sit there and wait it out until the show started or until they announced that it was canceled.
I'm sure Fantasmic will be around for a long time, it is such a popular show! It can stay forever and I won't mind. ;) I hope that you get to see it someday, it really is fantastic! ;)

I was so happy that we got to see it, it is one of my fav things at WDW and I was heartbroken when we didn't get to see it last year. I think that if the show had been canceled I would have tried my best to get Mom to stick around in the park to see if the second show that night went on. That is how desperate I was to see it! :lmao:

As you know I can be pretty negative at times too, mostly about myself though, but when you are in WDW or anywhere really and are talking with strangers you have just met it is pretty rude to just rant about everything in the universe. Makes people very uncomfortable! Not to mention WDW is supposed to be a happy place, don't rain on somebody's vacation!

Wow! Finally caught up hehe
So here's what I have to say.
-I love the Tinkerbell pillow. I saw it and really wanted it. But I knew it would not fit in our suitcases as we were almost done our vacation.
-Jolly Rancher pop?? What does that taste like. In my mind it is disgustingly sugary.
- I like the tree decorations. I think it's cool. You kinda gave me an idea for an art project that the students might enjoy for earth day.
- Prince Caspian was VERY cute.
- And I think your mom's Mickey was so cute. Too bad she threw it out.

We weren't sure it was going to fit either, we managed to squeeze it in there though. I am sure it helped that we ended up buying a rolling duffel so had an extra bag to get stuff home. If it hadn't fit we would have just brought it as a carry-on onto the plane.

We didn't it try it pretty much for the reason you just stated.

I think Mom was jealous of all the attention I got from him. He simply posed for a picture with her, no interaction. :snooty::laughing:
- And I think your mom's Mickey was so cute. Too bad she threw it out.
She is very picky about her "art". She didn't want to keep it unless it was "perfect".

We woke up nice and early this day. We knew that we would have to get to the park super early as it was sure to be extremely crowded. It was the opening day of Star Wars Weekends! I had been so excited when they announced the dates for the 2009 weekends and saw that we would be able to attend on our last park day. It was not something I had planned for when initially booking the trip as SWW is usually in June so it was a nice little surprise.
We got to the park right around 8am. We approached the turnstyles from the side bag check and then joined the lines at the turnstyles. We were fairly close to the front, hurray! Looking behind me I could see the huge line of people waiting to get the celebrity autograph fastpasses, thank goodness Mom and I don't care about that kind of stuff. I left Mom in line while I went in search of a Times Guide for the day. Well at the ticket counters they only had the normal DHS Times Guides. Where on earth were all these people getting the special SWW guides? I stopped somebody and asked and they said they were handing them out right before you go through bag check. Well why on earth did they not have these at the side bag check too?!! So I went back out to the main bag check, grabbed two guides and then had to go through bag check again. I was annoyed!
They keep you entertained while waiting to get into the park. First they have a radio station from the Star Wars universe playing. This was very entertaining, I especially enjoyed the Storm Troopers recruitment ad. Here's some clips that Mom and I recorded.
Star Wars Radio Clips (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcsxykF_ypk)
Then closer to park opening Storm Troopers appear on the rooftops. They were sent to guard the entrance from "rebel scum". They were hilarious!
Mom and I recorded pretty much all of their "show". The sky clears up and makes the video easier to see around the 3min mark.

Once they started letting us in it was a mad rush to the rope. Instead of heading straight down the street like most of the people I led Mom off to the left and down a side street. There was a rope drop here too which was much less crowded and would allow us to be closer to the Star Wars area. I was hoping this would give us an advantage over the crowd at the main rope drop. Just and FYI in case you were wondering but they do NOT have a special Star Wars rope drop ceremony.
Mom and I were right at the rope and standing next to us was a lady who looked to be in her forties and she was in full costume. Well it was Star Wars Weekends so I was not surprised to see somebody dressed up, in fact I expected it and was surprised when I saw barely anybody dressed up. Well Mom started chatting with this woman as it is impossible for Mom not to talk to strangers. Well it turns out she has been coming to SWW for the past 16 years! Wow, that is some dedication! As she continued to talk Mom and I began to realize there was something not right about her. She was a total Luke Skywalker stalker. I mean she was crazy, there was just something about her that was very off. She even carried around this kit that was like a shrine to Luke. You know in tv shows and movies how they will show stalker shrines that people make in their closets. Well this box was like that. Creepy!
As soon as the rope dropped this woman took off running.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2022nd%20-%20Star%20Wars%20Weekend/D7009.jpg
Mom and I were hustling as well, not running like some of the people. I was really surprised that Disney allowed this and did not walk everybody to the Star Wars area like they do with the safari in AK and Soarin at Epcot.
Anyways I suggested to Mom that we ride Star Tours first as I knew there was a chance that we would get Darth Vader or some Storm Troopers on the ride with us if we were the first ride of the day.
We saw this lady while heading into the ride.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2022nd%20-%20Star%20Wars%20Weekend/D7011.jpg
Well we were the first ride of the day, unfortunately we did not have any special guests riding with us. Oh well!
Upon exiting we got in line to get our first character picture. First up was Princess Leia.
Well this is when we encountered crazy stalker lady again. The line for Leia was set up right next to the fastpass machines for Star Tours. Well crazy stalker lady had clearly already been through the line and was just standing there next to the fastpass machines starring at Leia. Mom and I were in line for 15 minutes and this woman did not move. What the heck was she doing? I suspect that she was waiting for Luke to show up but she was really creepy and I was surprised that the character handlers allowed her to loiter there in the character area.

After Leia we got in the insanely long line for Chewbacca. This whole area was pretty much a sea of people. Crazy! While waiting in line Chewie left and an ewok came out for pictures. Mom and I stayed in line though because I knew it was very likely that by the time it was out turn that Chewie would be back.
They had a CM going up and down the line making sure that everybody knew who they were standing in line for. Turns out he had a master schedule of who was going to be where and when. He let us have a little peek.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2022nd%20-%20Star%20Wars%20Weekend/D7015.jpg
My feet were really killing me but there was no way I was getting out of that line. I knew that I would just have to suck it up as it was sure to be a day full of long lines.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2022nd%20-%20Star%20Wars%20Weekend/D7018.jpg
The Jedi Training Academy started up while we were waiting in line. Mom held our spot in line and sent me over to try and get some pictures. They had both Darth Vader and Darth Maul out fighting the young padawans today.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2022nd%20-%20Star%20Wars%20Weekend/D7022.jpg
I rejoined Mom in line and finally our turn for pictures was up. I think we stood in that line for 30-40 minutes. The whole time we were in line we could see that crazy stalker lady was still standing in Leia's greeting area starring at her with the crazy look in her eyes. She had been there for over an hour know! What on earth was she doing?!! I know she wasn't harming anybody or actually doing anything but she just gave off such a creepy vibe and Mom and I just could not help wondering about her.
For some reason Mom did not want to get in the picture with Chewie. Mom and I had been chatting with a lady in line with us and I had told her all about how Alek and Erich had called me Chewie growing up. She suggested that I should frame a copy of these pictures of Chewie and me and give them to my brothers for Christmas. LMAO! Stupid brothers! The pictures did turn out nicely though I think.

Next we hustled on over to the line for Queen Amidala. She had gone in for a break right before we got in line so we figured she would be back in 10 minutes or so. Wrong! Amidala kept us all waiting for at least half an hour. Some pictures we took while impatiently waiting for Amidala to return.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2022nd%20-%20Star%20Wars%20Weekend/d7027.jpg

Standing in that line was painful! It was so freaking hot! I thought I was going to melt. At least there was a railing I could perch on to relieve my feet.
Eventually Amidala came back out and since the line was not long we saw he rather quickly after she returned.
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2022nd%20-%20Star%20Wars%20Weekend/Image403.jpg

It was an hour and a bit away from parade time so I suggested to Mom that we stake out the parade spot that I had selected and then one of us could go grab lunch and bring it back there to eat.
The spot I had selected for the parade was where the celebrity busts are. Surrounding the busts is a short wall that you can sit on to view the parade. It is the perfect spot as nobody can stand in front of you as they would be in the parade route, you get to sit down, and since you are perched on a wall you are at the perfect height to take pictures.
Mom saved our seats on the wall and sent me off to explore and also to grab lunch. She didn't mind my going off on my own as I am definitely the Star Wars fan out of the two of us. She had never even seen the movies until I made her watch them before the trip. I told her there was no way I was taking her to Star Wars Weekends without her seeing them.
In my wanderings I came upon the line for Leia Minnie. I got in line and then heard a CM announce that in 5 minutes Minnie would be going inside and Jedi Mickey would be coming out. Works for me!
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2022nd%20-%20Star%20Wars%20Weekend/d7033.jpg

Well this line was moving VERY slowly and parade time was getting closer and closer. The CM started announcing that Jedi Mickey would be leaving soon to get ready for the parade. I was beginning to be afraid that I was not going to make it. Well I did just barely! They cut off pictures after the family that was behind me in line.

Hey there! I have been lurking on your trip report for a while and I have really been enjoying it! My mom and I also take trips to WDW each year, so your reports give me warm fuzzies lol!
Oh wow, that stalker lady sounded really scary! I am guessing she was all by herself? I wonder if she got to meet Luke that day. LOL something tells me she wouldn't have left the park until she did!

Hi there! Thanks for saying hello, it is great to hear from those reading along. Don't be shy about posting! :goodvibes
The stalker lady was indeed by herself and very creepy. I don't think there is anything wrong with being a fan and dressing up for the occasion but she took it to a whole other level! You will see more of her in later updates don't worry. :rolleyes1

Eeh, Star Tours is not a must-do for me. The only reason I wanted to ride it that day was in the hope of the ride-along with the characters. It's always good to try everything at least once though!

After getting my picture with Jedi Mickey it was time for me to grab some lunch and head back to Mom. I wasn't feeling too hungry so I decided to just get Mom food. She is a fan of the curry they sell at the ABC Commissary and I was right there so that is what I got for her. I grabbed her a spoon and fork, stuffed them in my pocket and then I was on my way back. Well I guess at some point on the walk back the utensils fell out of my pocket so Mom had to go get some more once I arrived.
While she was gone I saw the High School Musical Show arriving in front of the hat so yes normal park events still take place during Star Wars Weekends, just in case you were wondering.
Once back she chowed down on her curry, yuck!
20 minutes until the parade was due to start can you guess what happened? Well if you have been paying attention to the "theme" of this report it should be pretty easy to figure out. ^_^
At first it was just a few drops, uh oh, so we pulled our ponchos on just in case. Good thing we did as it started to pour just a few minutes later.
Luckily it was not a long rain and it stopped in time for the parade.
Now are you ready for picture overload? I took a lot! Mom also took video of the parade. Star Wars Celebrity Motorcade (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5n9_vEB6w0). That's right they can't just call it the Star Wars Parade they have to call it the "Celebrity Motorcade".
http://i314.photobucket.com/albums/ll421/polnickyhunt/Disney%20May%202009/May%2022nd%20-%20Star%20Wars%20Weekend/D7040.jpg

Now it is my understanding that many of the people who participate in this parade are fans who own these costumes themselves and travel to participate in the motorcade.

Yeah, she was definitely a weirdo. Wait till you see a picture I got of her later in the day! I didn't even realize I had caught her in the picture until I was reviewing it later on the camera. I just about died of laughter!

After the parade Mom and I decided to try and hunt down the special Star Wars Weekends shop to see what kind of special merchandise they might have. Several people told us it was back in the Streets of America so that is where we headed....
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7130.jpg
Well we didn't find the shop back there but we did find some sand people wandering around.
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7131.jpg
So we were still wandering around trying to find this shop when I saw Luke and Leia headed towards their picture spot, they were obviously on their way back from a break. The line was super long for them and I didn't want to stand in it as we had already gotten our picture with Leia. So I just sort of ran ahead of them a bit and snapped a picture of Luke.
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7133.jpg
Wait a minute! Who is that I see behind Luke? It was the crazy stalker lady!
Just look at the expression on her face! I felt scared for Luke!
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7133b.jpg
What had she been doing? Loitering outside the area where the characters take their breaks and then following him whenever he came out? Why was nobody other than Mom and I questioning her strange behaviour?!
Mom and I continued on our search for the store and stumbled upon the long long line for Darth Vader. Well right at that moment it began to POUR again. Since we were seeking shelter anyways we decided to hop in line.
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7135.jpg
We were in that line for a long time. There was a random chair scattered here and there so I took an opportunity to get off my aching feet whenever possible. Mom found herself a line friend to talk to while waiting, a nice grandma from Kentucky traveling with her family.
The rain slowed down a bit for a while and then would start back up again.
I think Vader left for his breaks at least three times while we were standing in that line. The line moved soooo slowly.
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7137.jpg
The storm troopers kept everybody in line in order. No messing around with them watching over you! ^_^
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7142.jpg
I thought this little girl in her Vader costume was adorable!
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7146.jpg
Finally it was our turn. I told Mom and Vader and the photographers I wanted to do a normal picture and then a picture where Vader is doing his mind death choke thing on me and Mom was supposed to look scared. Well first off they only took that picture on my camera, second it was very blurry and third Mom looks like she is laughing in glee/fawning all over him while I am "choking to death". Needless to say I dumped that picture. Here are our normal pictures. I have now learned my lesson to never get Mom to act scared for a picture, she can't pull it off, just looks like she is laughing. Where are Alek and Erich when I need them?
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/Image413.jpg
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/Image415.jpg
Next Mom wanted to go on the Backlot Tour (much to my dismay). Lucky for me though almost as soon as we got in line they announced that it was closing due to weather. Poor Mom, Yay for me!
Well what did we find right next to the Backlot Tour? The special SWW shop! We wandered around and checked things out but didn't end up buying anything. I expect it would be heaven in there for all the die-hard fans but I couldn't find anything that I really wanted to spend my money on.
It was pouring again, my feet were killing me and I felt like I was going to faint so we decided to take a break and get out of the rain. We took shelter in the ABC Commissary which was packed! We ended up sharing a table with a nice family who had some spare seats. They were just finishing up and they saw us looking for somewhere to sit so they offered for us to join them. Karmic payback for our sharing our table at Pecos Bill back on that rainy day in the Magic Kingdom.
My feet were killing me and I really needed something to eat as I felt like I was going to pass out so Mom had me stay at the table and she went and got me a hamburger meal. I felt much better after eating, you will remember that I had not had lunch earlier that day when Mom did. What a stupid decision on my part.
After eating I decided to go seek out the washroom. Well on my way over who did I see lurking about but the crazy stalker lady! I guess even she had to relent on her Luke stalking and seek shelter from the rain.
The line for the bathroom was huge and the tiles were all wet and slippery. Well this poor girl slipped and fell on the floor. Eeew! That is one floor I would not want to fall on. If that had been me I would have needed an immediate shower and would have had to burn my clothes. lmao
I think Mom and I spent a good 40 minutes relaxing in the commissary. Eventually we decided to move on though. No use occupying a table when I was done eating plus we were wasting the day.
Mom elected to go on the Great Movie Ride. I allowed it, I mean we had to do something she wanted to do every now and then right? ^_^
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7148.jpg
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7149.jpg
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7152.jpg
We got the gangster scene which was nice as we had experienced the cowboy scene last year.
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7155.jpg
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7156.jpg
After that we sort of scratched our heads wondering what to do next. It was still raining so all the Star Wars meet and greets were not going on as they were all outdoors.
I suggested that we go back to the Animation class since I had had so much fun there the day before. Mom agreed so we headed on over that way.
A class was just starting when we arrived but it was full so we had to wait for the next one. No problem!
When we did get in we got a very friendly CM who decided that he didn't want everybody drawing the same old thing. So he went through all the characters until he found one that nobody in the room had drawn before. Who did we get to draw?
Jiminy Cricket!
Mom's Jiminy

My Jiminy
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7182.jpg
It was still raining when the class was over and we had pretty much exhausted the park. I was bummed out about the rain as I had really wanted to get a few more character photos and I was dying to see the closing show for the day, the Hyperspace Hoopla. I had seen videos of it on YouTube and it was hilarious. We decided to leave the park figuring that there was no way that the show was going to go on.
Well wouldn't you know it, as soon as we got to the car it stopped raining and the sun was starting to come out. We were already out of the park though and my feet were killing me. Mom said we could always go back, it wasn't too late. I said to forget it and that we should just go back to the hotel. We had laundry and packing to do plus I wasn't feeling so hot.
So back to Pop Century we went. We loaded up our laundry and headed down to the laundry room which is right next to the pool.
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7184.jpg
While waiting for the laundry we decided to head over to the gift shop. You will remember that I had bought two new memory cards a few days before when we had gone to the mall. Well the memory cards were encased in one of those impossible to open plastic containers. So I took it over to the gift shop in the hopes that they would be able to help me out and cut it open.
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7185.jpg
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7187.jpg
Lucky me they were able to help and with a quick snip my new memory cards were free! Good thing too as my original memory cards were pretty much at capacity.
After the laundry was finished we decided to go find my year sign which was on the complete opposite side of the resort. Since we were going to head over to the Animal Kingdom Lodge afterwards and then out to dinner we drove the car over to the other side of the hotel instead of walking to save time.
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7196.jpg
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7197.jpg
We also decided to check out the computer pool as that was the only area of the hotel that we had not seen yet.
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7199.jpg
Well I nearly twisted my ankle on the "keyboard". It is raised out of the ground and I wasn't paying a lot of attention to where I was going and then bam I nearly fell and ouch my ankle.
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7201.jpg

Our exploration of Pop complete we headed back to the car and made our way over to the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Oh my gosh, that is insane yet also really funny! All I can think of is that maybe she has some kind of disorder and maybe she is harmless and Disney is aware of her? I mean if we as guests are noticing her and getting creeped out there is no way that Disney hasn't noticed her. When we were talking with her she seemed perfectly lucid well other than her Luke obsession but then she didn't talk about that it was just obvious from her shrine box she was carrying around. :confused3

Mom and I were off to the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We have been wanting to visit ever since our 2007 trip and we plan on staying there in 2012 so we wanted to take a look around.
The drive was pretty quick but I definitely see what people mean when they say it is far removed from everything else. It felt like we were in a separate world.
We pulled up to the guard station and told him that we were there to check out the resort and he waved us on through.
The parking lot here is huge, no danger of not being able to find a parking spot.

Very beautiful lobby
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7205.jpg
The resort sure was bustling, probably because it was prime dinner time so the two restaurants were super busy.
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7206.jpg
We first headed out to the pool area to check that out and also see what sort of animals we could see on that savannah.

I liked how secluded the hot tubs were from the main pool area, nice way to relax and get away from everything. I can imagine that you would feel like you truly were relaxing in a hot spring out in the jungle.

Mom and I found The Mara which is the counter service dining location. Nice and spacious and it was not busy at all even though it was prime dinner hour.
Another thing about the Mara, you can buy Zebra Domes here! I had read so much about them that I just had to get some and try them for myself.
They were much smaller than I expected, from the pictures I had always seen they always seemed bigger. :confused3 They were very reasonably priced.
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7224.jpg
Mom and I split them in half. They were okay and I would eat them again but I definitely did not have the major love for them that some people do.

Mom and I were very pleased with the resort and I can't wait to stay there! I loved the pool area, the resort was beautiful and it was fun getting to see all the animals.
After we were done at the lodge we drove over to the Publix we had found the other day. I wanted to stock up on band-aids for my feet before getting on the cruise. I also wanted to have them handy in case we hurt ourselves on one of our excursions. The reason we went to the Publix instead of the Walgreens is because we wanted to scope it out to see if it was nicer than the Goodings store we had been shopping at previously. Well we were very pleased, it was much nicer, much bigger, had way more variety and the prices were better. We will definitely be shopping there on our future trips instead of at Goodings.
After the grocery store we went to grab some dinner at the ever so exotic Pizza Hut. It was yummy as usual and hit the spot.
Back to the hotel to finish up our packing.
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7277.jpg
http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/uu313/lifelongdreamer/D7279.jpg
We had done pretty much all of the packing earlier so we just had to throw the last few things in the bags and then slap on the luggage tags for the cruise ship. The tags are sent to you in the mail with your cruise documents. You need to attach them to your bags as they have your name and stateroom number on them so that they get delivered to the right stateroom. I made sure that our carry-on bag had everything that we would need in the morning such as cruise documents, passports, swimsuits, etc. Basically anything we would need the first few hours on the ship.
Everything all packed and double-checked it was time for bed. We watched a few episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond before falling asleep. I am amazed that I was able to sleep that night as I was so excited to be leaving for the cruise in the morning!
And thus the Walt Disney World portion of this trip report has come to an end. I hope you all enjoyed it and that you will stick around to read about week two of our vacation, our 7-night cruise on the Disney Magic! We visited the beautiful ports of Tortola, St. Thomas and Castaway Cay!

I like all the Deluxe resorts except for the Contemporary, that one is too bland for my tastes.
As for the cruise report it is not about motivation but time! I leave on vacation late tomorrow night and thus won't be able to post until I get back. You can always go look at my pictures on Facebook to tide you over. ;)

I was actually discussing this with a co-worker the other day. I told him that I would have to right a book about our family's tragic trek up the mountain and the violent death by bear of my step-mother. It would become an immediate bestseller, the movie-rights would thenbe bought, I of course would be played by a knockout Hollywood actress and all the money from the book and movie would leave me and my family set for life! :thumbsup2

Mom and I got a bit turned around as well as you have to go down a level from the lobby to get to the pool, the Mara can only be gotten to from outside and then you had to go back up a level to the lobby then over to another staircase and then down a level again to get to the Arusha Rock. It was a good thing I sorta knew where I was going based on reading reports and looking at maps.
